A black gas BBQ is a gas barbecue sold with a black finish. On a UK listing that colour is a filter, not a hotter grill and not a safety class. You buy one for outdoor cooking on a patio or in a garden, and you still match the bottle to the regulator. Read the included-components line for a hose and regulator, not only a bullet. Count the main burners you can control separately. A side burner is a pan ring beside the grate, not a second cooking area. If two kilowatt figures disagree, they are not one number. Check the footprint against the space you have. A cover on a damp barbecue holds condensation. Nominal propane in Great Britain is 37 mbar and nominal butane is 29 mbar. Green patio gas is a 27 mm clip-on and does not fit a red screw-in propane valve. These barbecues stay outdoors. A balcony, a tent or a room is not a place to light one. The checks before you buy are in the [black gas BBQ buying guide](/hub/grills-and-barbecues/black-gas-bbq/sub/black-gas-bbq-buying-guide).

The best Black gas BBQs in detail

Weber Q 1200N

Rank 1

Weber Q 1200N

∼£389

Our view

The Weber Q 1200N is listed at £389 as a black gas barbecue on a compact stand, with one 2.93 kW burner, a wattage field of 2,930 W, and a cooking surface of 1,290 cm². The body is 45.5 × 105 × 109 cm and 19 kg, with an aluminium frame, porcelain-enamelled cast-iron grates, electronic ignition, side tables, and a lid thermometer. The amazon.co.uk line is 5.0 from four ratings, and all four UK texts are short and positive: sealed packaging, easy to assemble, compact, and cooks well. One of those reviewers says gas canisters last about three hours, so a spare is worth having. That is one person’s runtime, not a listed burn time. The included-components line says barbecue grill and does not name a hose or regulator, and the four reviews do not say whether one was in the box. A single burner cannot give you a hot zone and an off zone. Four five-star ratings are not enough to outrank the CosmoGrill trolleys that have hundreds of reviews, even though the heat lines on this page agree.

Pros

  • Heat lines agree at 2.93 kW and 2,930 W
  • 1,290 cm² on a 19 kg stand, with side tables and a lid thermometer
  • Porcelain-enamelled cast-iron grates and electronic ignition
  • Four UK reviews call it compact and straightforward to assemble

Cons

  • Only four amazon.co.uk ratings
  • One burner, so no separate hot and off zones
  • The included line does not name a hose or regulator
  • One reviewer says a canister lasted about three hours

Best for: A small patio where one burner and a stand are enough, and four reviews are acceptable.

Less suitable: A family cook that needs zones, or a buying decision you want backed by more than four ratings.

Common questions

Does the Weber Q 1200N have a side burner?

A side-burner count is not printed. The title and bullets list side tables.

Is a hose named in the box?

The included-components line says barbecue grill. It does not name a hose or regulator.

What cooking area and heat are listed?

1,290 cm² and 2.93 kW. The body is 45.5 × 105 × 109 cm and 19 kg.

CosmoGrill Platinum Yamara

Rank 2

CosmoGrill Platinum Yamara

∼£630

Our view

The CosmoGrill Platinum Yamara is listed at £629.99 as a 60 kg black trolley, 55 × 159 × 117 cm, with four lockable wheels, a 600D cover in the bullets, and a stated 28.2 kW that the wattage field also prints. That matched heat figure is unusual in this set. The main-burner count is 6 and the side-burner count is 2, while the title also says 4 main burners plus a sear burner and a back burner, so the layout is not one sentence. The bullet says a clip-on propane regulator and hose are included at 37 mbar, a tempered-glass viewing window is fitted, and the cover is 600D Oxford. The included-components line itself lists a lid, a thermometer, and a tool holder, not the hose. The amazon.co.uk line is 5.0 from three ratings, and the saved listing has no review text, so there is no UK account of assembly, rust, or whether the hose was actually in the carton. Three ratings cannot carry a £629.99 decision, even when the kilowatt lines agree.

Pros

  • 28.2 kW is printed in the bullet and in the wattage field
  • Bullet includes a 37 mbar propane hose and a 600D cover
  • Four lockable wheels on a 60 kg trolley
  • Tempered-glass viewing window named in the bullet

Cons

  • 5.0 from three ratings and no review text
  • Title says 4 main burners; the count field says 6
  • The included-components line does not name the hose the bullet claims
  • Cooking surface is not stated

Best for: You want the heaviest trolley in this set, with a matched 28.2 kW line, and you accept three ratings.

Less suitable: You want written UK reviews before spending £629.99, or a burner count the title and the field share.

Common questions

Does the Platinum include a propane hose?

How many burners are printed?

The main burner count is 6 and the side burner count is 2. The title also says 4 main burners plus a sear burner and a back burner.

Is there a viewing window?

Yes. The bullet describes a tempered glass viewing window, and the special-features line includes a viewing window.

CosmoGrill Pro Deluxe 6+1 with cover

Rank 3

CosmoGrill Pro Deluxe 6+1 with cover

∼£300

Our view

The covered CosmoGrill Pro Deluxe 6+1 is listed at £299.99 with 4.5 from 366 amazon.co.uk ratings, a 600D Oxford cover, and model number 93416, which it shares with the cheaper ASIN that does not list the cover. The bullet describes a double-walled hood, a 77 × 42 cm grate, six main burners plus a 2.5 kW side burner, and a total of 14.5 kW, on a body of about 149 × 55 × 110 cm and about 39–40 kg. The specification prints 3,214 cm², which is close to that grate, and also prints 12,000 BTU and 2,000 W, which is not 14.5 kW. In the first 50 UK texts, reviewers say it looks more expensive than the price, that it is sturdy once built, and that the cover fits, including over the gas bottle in one review. The same file repeats that the regulator and hose are not included, that the side-burner pipe needs a sharp bend, and that assembly takes about two hours with small screws. Paint wears where the cover rubs, and one review says the doors started to rust after about two years under that cover. It is the top pick here because the star line and the review depth are the strongest among the wide trolleys, not because the wattage lines agree or the hose is in the box.

Pros

  • 4.5 from 366 amazon.co.uk ratings
  • 600D cover in the title, and UK reviews say it fits
  • Six main burners, a side burner, and a stated 3,214 cm² cooking area
  • UK reviews call it sturdy once built and large enough for a big family

Cons

  • Regulator and hose are not included
  • The 14.5 kW bullet does not match 12,000 BTU and 2,000 W in the specification
  • Paint wear and door rust after about two years under the cover, in UK reviews
  • Side-burner pipe and a two-hour assembly with small screws

Best for: A wide patio, about 1.5 m, where you want the best-reviewed 6+1 in this set and you will buy a 37 mbar hose.

Less suitable: You need the hose in the box, or heat lines that say the same thing twice.

CosmoGrill Original 4+1

Rank 4

CosmoGrill Original 4+1

∼£200

Our view

The CosmoGrill Original 4+1 is listed at £199.99 with 4.4 from 1,036 amazon.co.uk ratings, the deepest review file in this set. The body is 50 × 126 × 103 cm and 22 kg, with a stated grate of 1,952 cm², four main burners, a side burner, castors, and a lid gauge named in the title. UK reviewers often say it looks sturdy once it is built, that the side burner is useful for onions, and that the large wheels cope with rough ground. Several of those same reviews say no gas pipe or regulator arrived, and the included line only names a lid and a rack. Assembly is the other recurring complaint: poor instructions, two people for some steps, and builds of about one to three hours when the parts were labelled. One reviewer found the burners lighting only part-way along, so the front of the grate stayed cooler. The bullet’s four 7.2 kW burners plus a 2.1 kW side burner do not match the 9.3 kW wattage field, and the bullet says Piezo while the cooking-system field says electronic ignition. It is the best value here if you will buy a hose separately, because the star count is far deeper than the cheaper Campfire.

Pros

  • 4.4 from 1,036 amazon.co.uk ratings
  • UK reviews use the side burner for pans and praise the castors on rough ground
  • Some labelled builds finished in about one to three hours
  • Stated grate of 1,952 cm² on a 22 kg trolley

Cons

  • Hose and regulator are not in the included line
  • UK reviews mention poor instructions, mis-drilled legs, and sharp edges when cleaning
  • One reviewer found burners lighting only part-way along the grate
  • The heat lines disagree, and so do the Piezo and electronic ignition lines

Best for: A family garden that wants a reviewed 4+1 near £200 and will add a 37 mbar hose.

Less suitable: You need the regulator in the box, or wattage and ignition lines that agree.

Common questions

Is a gas hose included?

It is not in the included line, which lists a lid and a rack. UK reviews say a pipe and regulator had to be bought separately.

The bullet says Piezo ignition. The cooking-system field says electronic ignition. Both are printed.

Does it have wheels?

Yes. The bullet lists castor wheels and a bottom shelf with doors.

CosmoGrill Pro Deluxe 6+1

Rank 5

CosmoGrill Pro Deluxe 6+1

∼£290

Our view

This CosmoGrill Pro Deluxe 6+1 is listed at £289.99 with 4.4 from 269 amazon.co.uk ratings, model number 93416, and no cover in the included line. The bullet puts the body at about 149 × 55 × 110 cm and about 40 kg, with six main burners, a 2.5 kW side burner, a stated total of 14.5 kW, and a 77 × 42 cm grate. The specification prints 2.5 kW, 2,000 W, and 77 cm², which is not the same grill. UK reviews in the first 50 texts call the cooking area large enough for a family or a party of about 30, and one owner still called it brilliant after two years. The seller replaced faulty parts for at least one buyer. The same sample complains about instructions that should be swapped at the start, bent parts that had to be straightened before the screws fitted, matt black that shows oil, grates that are hard to clean, and builds from about two hours to a day and a half. The bullet says the regulator and hose are not included and names 37 mbar propane or 28 mbar butane, and it says a canister should never sit in the cabinet while you cook. The covered twin is a different ASIN at £299.99 with the same model number.

Pros

  • 4.4 from 269 amazon.co.uk ratings
  • UK reviews describe a large grate for a family or a party of about 30
  • Seller replaced faulty parts in at least one UK review
  • Bullet names 37 mbar propane or 28 mbar butane so you know what to buy

Cons

  • Hose and regulator are excluded, and no cover is in this included line
  • 14.5 kW in the bullet against 2.5 kW and 77 cm² in the specification
  • Bent parts and an instruction order that UK reviews say does not work
  • Matt black shows grease, and cupboard magnets are called weak

Best for: You want this 6+1 trolley without paying for the cover, and you will buy the hose and read the bullet’s cabinet warning.

Less suitable: You want the 600D cover in the box, or a single heat figure you can quote.

Common questions

Does this Pro Deluxe include a cover?

Not in this listing. The included line is the user manual. The covered twin is a different ASIN with the same model number 93416.

What regulator does the bullet ask for?

It says a regulator and hose are not included, and names 37 mbar for propane or 28 mbar for butane.

Can the gas bottle sit in the cabinet while you cook?

The bullet says gas canisters should never be placed inside the grill cabinet during use.

CosmoGrill 4+1 with cover

Rank 6

CosmoGrill 4+1 with cover

∼£220

Our view

The covered CosmoGrill 4+1 is listed at £219.99 with 4.1 from 160 amazon.co.uk ratings, a 600D Oxford cover in the title, and the same 50 × 126 × 103 cm body class as the Original, at 25 kg and 1,952 cm². Some UK buyers built it in about an hour and called the cooking fine after the first uses, and the seller replaced a cover whose seam had split. The included line does not name a hose or regulator, and UK reviews say one was not supplied. Other reviews call the steel light-gauge, say the side-burner screws are fiddly, and put a two-person build at about four hours. Rust shows up twice in the sample: after about seven months in one review, and after about 18 months in another, when the cover had also fallen apart and the grill was no longer usable. The bullet’s four 7.2 kW burners plus a 2.1 kW side burner sit next to a 9.3 kW heating-power field and a wattage field of 1,800 W. The cover is the extra you pay for over the Original, and it does not remove the hose purchase or the rust reports.

Pros

  • 600D Oxford cover named in the title and the bullet
  • 4.1 from 160 amazon.co.uk ratings
  • Some UK builds took about an hour and then cooked well
  • Seller replaced a cover with a split seam

Cons

  • Hose and regulator are not in the included line
  • UK reviews report rust at about 7 months and about 18 months
  • Light-gauge steel and a four-hour two-person build in one review
  • 9.3 kW in one field and 1,800 W in another

Best for: You want this 4+1 shape with a cover in the box and you will still buy the hose.

Less suitable: You want a hose included, or a finish that UK reviews have not already linked to rust within two seasons.

CosmoGrill Emberr 6+1

Rank 7

CosmoGrill Emberr 6+1

∼£280

Our view

The CosmoGrill Emberr 6+1 is listed at £279.99 with 4.0 from 30 amazon.co.uk ratings, and it is the trolley in this set whose included line actually names a propane hose and a clip-on regulator. The bullet describes six main burners totalling 12.3 kW, a 3.2 kW side burner, a 77 × 34 cm grill, and a body of 141 × 52 × 107.5 cm at 30.5 kg, with two 6 inch wheels and a lid gauge. The specification prints 15.4 kW, 77 cm², and 45 × 45 × 34 cm, so you cannot plan the patio from one line. Eight UK review texts are in the saved listing. They split between a sturdy grill that one person assembled and cooked on the next day, and a box with no printed instructions, unnumbered parts, and a warming rack that does not stay on and has lost its coating. Racks that soaked clean in hot soapy water are part of the praise. Thirty ratings and eight texts are a thin file next to the Pro Deluxe, even though the hose is the practical advantage.

Pros

  • Propane clip-on hose and regulator named in the included line
  • Six main burners plus a side burner the bullet rates at 3.2 kW
  • One UK reviewer assembled it alone and cooked the next day
  • Lid thermometer and a grease tray that slides out

Cons

  • Bullet size 141 × 52 × 107.5 cm against a specification of 45 × 45 × 34 cm
  • Cooking area printed as 77 × 34 cm and as 77 cm²
  • Only eight UK review texts, with missing instructions in one of them
  • One review says the warming rack falls off and the coating has lifted

Best for: You want six main burners and a propane hose already in the box, and you will measure the patio against the bullet rather than the specification.

Less suitable: You need one agreed footprint, or a review file deeper than 30 ratings.

Common questions

Is the propane hose in the box?

The bullet says 141 × 52 × 107.5 cm. The specification says 45 × 45 × 34 cm. Both are printed.

Does it have a side burner?

Yes. Side burner count is 1, and the bullet rates that burner at 3.2 kW.

Campfire 4+1

Rank 8

Campfire 4+1

∼£170

Our view

The Campfire 4+1 is listed at £169.99 as a black trolley with four main burners, one side burner, and a stated cooking surface of 2,275 cm² on a body of 47.5 × 129.5 × 104.5 cm that weighs 29 kg. The amazon.co.uk line is 3.4 from 59 ratings, and the UK texts that were sampled say you cannot cook until you buy a regulator and hose, which one reviewer put at about £18. People who finished a careful build say it gets hot quickly and can cook burgers and vegetables evenly. Other UK reviews describe thin grates, a lid that will not stay straight, missing side-burner fittings, and panels that arrived bent so the holes did not line up. The bullet prints four 11.2 kW burners plus a 2.5 kW side burner, while the specification prints 11.2 kW, so those lines are not one power figure. The brand field says Touch of Venetian and the manufacturer line says CAMPFIRE. It is the lowest shelf price here, and a weak match if you want the hose in the box or a rating closer to the CosmoGrill 4+1 listings.

Pros

  • Four main burners plus a side burner at £169.99
  • Stated cooking surface of 2,275 cm² on a 29 kg trolley
  • UK reviews that finished the build say it heats quickly
  • A lid thermometer is listed

Cons

  • Regulator and hose are not included
  • 3.4 from 59 ratings, with missing fittings and bent panels in UK reviews
  • The bullet’s burner kilowatts do not match the 11.2 kW specification
  • No cover is listed

Best for: You want the lowest 4+1 shelf price in this set and you will buy a hose and regulator the same day.

Less suitable: You want the fittings in the box, or a star line closer to the CosmoGrill 4+1 listings.

Common questions

Does this Campfire include a hose and regulator?

No. The bullet says the regulator and hose are not included. UK reviews say the same, and one reviewer paid about £18 more for them.

Main burner count is 4 and side burner count is 1. The configuration line is 4+1.

Which power figure is printed?

The bullet says four 11.2 kW burners and a 2.5 kW side burner. The specification says heating power 11.2 kW. Both lines are on the page.

Weber Traveler Stealth

Rank 9

Weber Traveler Stealth

∼£569

Our view

The Weber Traveler Stealth is listed at £569 as a black folding gas grill with one 3.8 kW burner, a matching wattage field of 3,800 W, and a specification cooking area of 2,108 cm². The bullet also says a surface of about 63 × 34 cm, which is close to that area, on porcelain-enamelled cast-iron grates, with an automatic lid lock, a lid thermometer, and a foldable wheeled cart. The specification prints 35 × 50 × 150 cm, while a highlight says 111 cm width, so the footprint is not settled. Listed weight is 29.2 kg, and the included line names a spatula rather than a hose or regulator. There is no customer-reviews line and no review text in the saved listing, so there is nothing to say about assembly, heat, or whether a hose arrived. A single burner still cannot zone a cook. At this price, with no star line and two width figures, it is a listing to check on amazon.co.uk before you rely on it, not a result this comparison can score.

Pros

  • 3.8 kW and 3,800 W agree
  • Foldable wheeled cart, lid lock, and a lid thermometer
  • Porcelain-enamelled cast-iron grates and a stated 2,108 cm²
  • Three-year manufacturer warranty on the listing

Cons

  • No amazon.co.uk star line and no review texts
  • Width printed as 150 cm in the specification and 111 cm in a highlight
  • Hose and regulator are not named
  • One burner only, at £569

Best for: You specifically want a folding Weber cart and you will confirm the width and the hose on the live listing.

Less suitable: You want written UK reviews, one agreed width, or a second burner.

Common questions

What heat and cooking area are listed?

3.8 kW, with 2,108 cm² in the specification. The bullet also says a surface of about 63 × 34 cm.

Which size should you plan for?

The specification says 35 × 50 × 150 cm. A highlight says 111 cm width. The listing does not resolve that.

Is there an amazon.co.uk star rating in the saved listing?

No customer-reviews line is printed, and there are no review texts.

How we compared

Nine amazon.co.uk black gas BBQ listings were scored from 0 to 100, then deductions, with a floor of 0. Halves round up. Stars contribute up to 45, review volume up to 20, ready-to-cook listing facts up to 22, and review sentiment up to 13. A missing star line, fewer than 10 ratings, and specification conflicts are deducted afterwards. The top pick is the highest score. Best value is the other listing with the highest score per pound among rows that still score at least 50. This is not a lab cook, and a star line is not a BS EN 498 result.

1

Stars

45%

Up to 45 points from the amazon.co.uk star line: round(stars divided by 5, times 45). A 4.5 becomes 41, a 4.4 becomes 40, a 4.1 becomes 37, a 4.0 becomes 36 and a 3.4 becomes 31. No star line scores 0. The figure is the listing average, not a measured cook.

2

Review volume

Black gas BBQ buying guide

Choose the gas and the hose before the colour. A black finish is a listing field, not a hotter or safer grill. On this page the shelf prices run from about £169.99 to about £629.99. A hose named only in a bullet is not the same as a hose in the included line, and two kilowatt figures that disagree are not one number.

What is a black gas BBQ?

A black gas BBQ is an outdoor gas barbecue whose colour field is black. The paint does not add heat and it is not a safety class. These are LPG appliances. You match the gas, the clip and the millibar rating before you compare finish. GOV.UK’s cylinder-appliance table puts nominal propane at 37 mbar and nominal butane at 29 mbar. Some listing bullets still say 28 mbar for butane. Both figures are in the public record, so quote the listing rather than silently changing it.

Best for

  • A small patio where one burner and a stand are enough
  • A family garden that wants a 4+1 and will buy the hose the same day
  • A wide patio, about 1.5 m, for six main burners

Not ideal for

  • Any cook indoors, in a tent, in a garage, on a balcony, or on decking
  • A buyer who needs one agreed kilowatt figure where the bullet and the specification disagree

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

Assuming the hose is in the box

Several listings tell you to buy a 37 mbar propane regulator, or a 28 mbar butane one, separately. UK reviews repeat that the pipe was missing. A hose named only in a bullet does not count as the included line. Check that line before you compare the shelf price.

  2. 2

Treating two heat lines as one number

A bullet total and a wattage field can print different kilowatts, or a cooking area can be given in centimetres and then as a figure in square centimetres that cannot be that grate. Leave the conflict visible. BS EN 498 sets no thermal-efficiency figure, so a listing wattage is not a British Standard score.

  3. 3

Covering a wet grill, or lighting it with the lid shut

A cover on a damp barbecue traps condensation. UK reviews here report rust even with a cover, including after about two years under one. Light outdoors with the lid open, follow that barbecue’s manual for shutdown, and do not use a balcony, a tent, or a room.

What to weigh up

Fuel, hose and millibar

High

These are LPG barbecues. Nominal propane in the UK is 37 mbar and nominal butane is 29 mbar, although some bullets still print 28 mbar for butane. Calor recommends propane outdoors because it vaporises in the cold, while butane does not. Green patio gas is a 27 mm clip-on and does not fit red screw-in propane. The buying check is the included-components line. The Emberr names a propane hose there. The Campfire and the CosmoGrill 4+1 and Pro Deluxe listings exclude it.

Burners, footprint, heat and cover

High

A side burner is a pan ring, not extra grate. One burner cannot zone a cook. Four or six main burners can, if each control is separate. Use a width only when the lines agree: about 126 cm on the 4+1 bodies, about 149 cm on the Pro Deluxe, 105 cm on the Q, 159 cm on the Platinum. The Emberr prints 141 cm in the bullet and 45 cm in the specification. The Traveler prints 150 cm and 111 cm. Quote a kilowatt only when the bullet and the wattage field match, as they do at 2.93 kW, 3.8 kW and 28.2 kW.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Small patio, one burner

You want one burner on a stand, and four reviews are acceptable. The Weber Q 1200N is about £389, at 5.0 from 4 ratings, with heat lines that agree at 2.93 kW and a stated 1,290 cm². The included line does not name a hose. One burner cannot give you a hot zone and an off zone.

Family garden, hose bought the same day

You want a 4+1 near £200 and you will buy a 37 mbar hose. The CosmoGrill Original 4+1 is about £199.99, at 4.4 from 1,036 ratings, with a stated grate of 1,952 cm². The hose is not in the included line. It is the best value on this page. The heat lines and the ignition lines disagree.

Wide patio, six main burners

You have about 1.5 m of width and you want six main burners. The covered CosmoGrill Pro Deluxe 6+1 is about £299.99, at 4.5 from 366 ratings, with a 600D cover and a bullet body of about 149 cm. It is the top pick. The hose is not included, and the 14.5 kW bullet does not match the specification.

Common questions about Black gas BBQs

Which black gas BBQ is the top pick for 2026?
The top pick is the CosmoGrill Pro Deluxe 6+1 with cover, at about £299.99. The score is 72: 41 from a 4.5 star line, 20 from 366 ratings, 8 from listing readiness, 8 from mixed UK comments, then minus 5 because the 14.5 kW bullet does not match 12,000 BTU and 2,000 W. A 600D cover is listed. The hose is not. UK reviews also report paint wear and door rust after about two years under that cover.
Which black gas BBQ is the best value?
The best value is the CosmoGrill Original 4+1 at about £199.99. It scores 66, from 4.4 and 1,036 amazon.co.uk ratings, and its score per pound is higher than the Campfire at about £169.99, which scores 50 at 3.4 from 59 ratings. The hose is not in the included line. The heat lines disagree, and the bullet says Piezo while the cooking-system field says electronic ignition. It does not outscore the covered Pro Deluxe.
How much does a black gas BBQ cost on amazon.co.uk?
In this set the shelf prices are about £169.99 for the Campfire 4+1, about £199.99 for the CosmoGrill Original, about £219.99 for the covered 4+1, about £279.99 for the Emberr, about £289.99 for the Pro Deluxe without a cover in the included line, and about £299.99 for the covered Pro Deluxe. The Weber Q is about £389, the Traveler about £569, and the Platinum Yamara about £629.99. Those are the amazon.co.uk lines dated 20 October 2026.
Does a black gas BBQ include a hose and regulator?
Read the included-components line. The Emberr names a propane clip-on hose and regulator there. The Campfire and the CosmoGrill 4+1 and Pro Deluxe listings say the hose is not included, and several name 37 mbar propane or 28 mbar butane. The Platinum bullet claims a 37 mbar propane hose, but the included-components line lists a lid, a thermometer and a tool holder. The Weber lines do not name a hose. Details are in the hose and regulator guide.
Should you use propane or butane?
Match the bottle, the clip and the millibar rating. GOV.UK puts nominal propane at 37 mbar and nominal butane at 29 mbar. Some bullets in this set still print 28 mbar for butane. Calor recommends propane outdoors, because propane vaporises at about −42°C and butane at about −2°C. Green patio gas is a 27 mm clip-on and does not fit a red screw-in propane valve. Do not treat a 37 mbar propane regulator as a butane fitting.
Can you use a black gas BBQ indoors or on a balcony?
No. London Fire Brigade says never indoors, never on a balcony, and not on decking. Change the cylinder outdoors and store it outside. Do not put the cylinder in the cabinet while you cook. A lasting gas smell is a stop. These scores are listing facts. They are not a claim that any barbecue here is safe to light on a balcony.
Is a side burner extra grate space?
No. A side burner is a pan ring beside the main grate. One main burner, as on the Weber Q and the Traveler, cannot give you a hot zone and an off zone. Four or six main burners can, if each has its own control. How that layout is sold across trolleys is in the gas BBQ with side burner comparison.
When should you call a Gas Safe engineer?
Call a Gas Safe registered engineer if a leak test still bubbles, if you want piped gas rather than a cylinder, or if a valve or injector needs repair. Do not drill the gas pipe because a panel arrived bent. GOV.UK and Gas Safe say turn the supply off first. Weber says turn the burners off first, or a flow limiter may trip. Follow the manual for that barbecue. There is no single shutdown order that covers every listing here.

Our verdict

The top pick is the CosmoGrill Pro Deluxe 6+1 with cover, at about £299.99. It has the highest score, 72, from 4.5 and 366 amazon.co.uk ratings, with a 600D cover on a six-burner trolley. The hose is not included, the 14.5 kW bullet does not match 12,000 BTU and 2,000 W, and UK reviews report paint wear and door rust after about two years under the cover. The best value is the CosmoGrill Original 4+1 at about £199.99, score 66, from 4.4 and 1,036 ratings. Its score per pound is higher than the Campfire at about £169.99, which sits on the 50 line at 3.4 from 59 ratings. The Original’s hose is not in the included line, and its heat and ignition lines disagree. None of these scores is a lab cook or a BS EN 498 pass.
