An infrared heater on amazon.co.uk is either a far-infrared panel for a room or a glowing quartz, halogen or carbon heater for a person, a shed or a patio. You want a panel for quiet background heat in a small closed room. You want a glowing heater when you need warmth in about a minute, aimed at a seat or a covered terrace. This page keeps those jobs apart before it ranks a brand. Look for a UK 13 A plug, a wattage that matches the job, a real thermostat if the heater will run for hours, and an IP rating that agrees with the manual. One kilowatt-hour of electricity is about one kilowatt-hour of heat. A lower bill comes from fewer watts and from switching off, not from a 95% efficient bullet. Panel or glowing tube, then watts and control, is set out in the [infrared heater buying guide](/hub/heating/infrared-heater/sub/infrared-heater-buying-guide).

An infrared heater on amazon.co.uk is either a far-infrared panel for a room or a glowing quartz, halogen or carbon heater for a person, a shed or a patio.

The best infrared heaters in detail

SOUTHEATIC TW30R

Rank 1

SOUTHEATIC TW30R

∼£180

Our view

The SOUTHEATIC TW30R is a gold-halogen bar listed up to 3,000 W at £179.97, with 4.7 from only 11 amazon.co.uk reviews. Five UK reviews praise strong heat, a swivel bracket and three steps. One reviewer notes a 13 A plug already fitted, which puts a continuous 3,000 W load at the top of a normal socket. The bar is 96.5 cm long and 5.12 kg, and reviews say the lead is short and the unit needs clearance. IP65 appears in a bullet that is cut off in the saved listing, so the code needs confirming in the booklet before you leave it outside. A 98% efficiency line is a seller claim, not a measured saving against another electric heater of the same wattage. Eleven reviews cannot tell you how the tube lasts. It is the highest output in this set, and the thinnest evidence among the patio bars.

Pros

  • Three steps at 1,000 W, 2,000 W and 3,000 W
  • Wall or ceiling brackets stated, with a swivel mentioned in reviews
  • UK reviews call the heat strong
  • A review reports a 13 A plug already fitted

Cons

  • Only 11 reviews, five of them UK text
  • Short lead, and a bar just under a metre long
  • The IP65 bullet is truncated in the saved listing
  • £179.97 for a sample too small to judge tube life

Best for: A covered wall where you already need about 3 kW and will check the plug and the IP line on day one

Less suitable: A first patio heater chosen on the star average, or a second heater on the same socket

Warmlite WL42013

Rank 2

Warmlite WL42013

∼£56

Our view

Across 1,197 amazon.co.uk reviews at 4.4 stars, the Warmlite WL42013 puts warmth on a person in about a minute from a 2.2 kg carbon tower with 500 W and 1,000 W settings and 70° oscillation. Reviewers use it on furnishings in a draughty room and in a shed, and they mention the carry handle when they move it toward a chair. The usage field says indoor, while recommended uses also list outdoor, so patio duty stays unproven until the manual agrees. Overheat protection is named and a tip-over switch is not. Saved reviews call the stand wobbly, which matters on carpet if you expected a rigid base. No timer is confirmed in the specs, so it runs until you switch it off. At £56.46 it is the deepest review sample in this set, and it is still a directional heater rather than a whole-room system.

Pros

  • Warmth felt within about a minute in UK reviews
  • 500 W and 1,000 W with 70° oscillation and a carry handle
  • 4.4 from 1,197 reviews, the largest sample in this set
  • Overheat protection stated, and 240 V listed

Cons

  • Reviews describe a wobbly stand
  • Indoor usage field and an outdoor recommended-use line disagree
  • No timer in the saved specs

Best for: A desk, chair or shed seat where you want plug-in radiant heat and will switch it off when you leave

Less suitable: A patio left out in the rain, a bathroom, or a large room you expect one tower to heat evenly

Harrier 2000 W patio

Rank 3

Harrier 2000 W patio

∼£49

Our view

The Harrier standing patio heater is 2,000 W with three settings at £48.99, and 4.4 from 342 reviews. UK reviewers mention decent heat for the price under a gazebo and in a garage, and they find the head easy to angle. The title names a 9 kg base and freestanding or wall mounting, with a head that tilts from 0° to 45°. The bullet claims IPX4, which is splash resistance, not a claim that the unit can sit in driving rain. The cord is 1.8 m, and reviews call that lead short. The body gets very hot if you stand too close. The 200-square-foot field is a slogan rather than a measured heated area, a timer is asked about but not answered in the specs, and assembly is required. It is a sheltered-terrace tool, and the short lead is the practical limit before an extension reel, which portable-heater guidance advises against.

Pros

  • 2,000 W with three settings, on a stand or a wall, at £48.99
  • 4.4 from 342 reviews, a readable outdoor sample
  • IPX4 claimed for splash resistance
  • Reviewers use it under a gazebo and find assembly easier than the sheet suggests

Cons

  • The 1.8 m cord is called short in reviews
  • The casing gets very hot
  • IPX4 is splash protection, not a jet-proof rating
  • No timer in the saved specs

Best for: A covered terrace, gazebo or garage where the socket is close to the seats

Less suitable: An open wall in a storm, a bathroom, or a run that needs a long extension lead

Hocosyme UK-T-180W

Rank 4

Hocosyme UK-T-180W

∼£60

Our view

The Hocosyme UK-T-180W is £59.99 with 4.4 from three amazon.co.uk reviews, and the listing does not agree with itself. The title, the model and the heat-output field say 180 W, while a bullet calls it a 1,000 W heater for 2–6 m². Three reviews are too few to decide which figure arrived in the box. One buyer liked the thin panel. Another was disappointed by the build and said a separate thermostat or a professional fit may be needed, even though special features say programmable thermostat. The form-factor field says Tower on a wall-mounted title. IP54 is claimed, and a bullet claims TÜV and GS marks, which this comparison did not verify. The stated size is 295 mm by 22 mm by 595 mm at 3 kg, with a 1.8 m cable. Until the wattage is one number, you cannot size a room from this row.

Pros

  • Thin wall panel at 3 kg, with mounting hardware and a 1.8 m cable stated
  • IP54 claimed
  • A three-year warranty stated in a bullet
  • Described as plug-in, so an existing suitable socket needs no new circuit

Cons

  • 180 W and 1,000 W are both printed
  • Only three reviews
  • Whether a thermostat is included or extra is unresolved
  • TÜV and GS are unverified bullet claims

Best for: A buyer who has already read the wattage on the physical label and only needs a thin plug-in panel for a very small spot

Less suitable: Choosing it as a 1,000 W room heater from the bullet, or treating three reviews as a substitute for the Warmlite sample

SONBION LSG13

Rank 5

SONBION LSG13

∼£40

Our view

The SONBION LSG13 is an 800 W quartz heater at £39.95, with 4.2 from 511 amazon.co.uk reviews. Reviewers describe it as quiet next to a fan heater and easy to move to a desk, and some say one bar is enough on a milder day. The bullets name overheat protection and a tip-over switch, which reviewers also mention as a cut-out near objects. It is listed for indoor rooms, not as a patio heater, and no IP rating is printed. One review says the top bar stopped working within a few months. Another says a blanket that touched the front grille caught fire, so the grille is a burn risk rather than a drying rail. The model field says LSG13 while the item type name says LSG01, and the 200-square-foot line is a listing slogan. At this price it is the lowest shelf figure in the set with a review sample you can read, and it still will not heat a whole room.

Pros

  • £39.95 with 4.2 from 511 reviews
  • Tip-over switch and overheat protection named
  • Described as quiet at a desk compared with a fan heater
  • Two heat settings on 230 V, with an 18-month warranty stated in a bullet

Cons

  • One review reports a top bar failing within months
  • A blanket on the grille caught fire in one review
  • Model LSG13 clashes with item type LSG01
  • Not a whole-room heater, and no IP rating is printed

Best for: One indoor spot, such as a desk or a small snug, when you want the lowest price here and will keep fabric off the grille

Less suitable: Patio weather, a bathroom, or anyone who will drape a throw over the front

Pro Breeze PB-H16

Rank 6

Pro Breeze PB-H16

∼£80

Our view

The Pro Breeze PB-H16 is a 1,000 W and 2,000 W halogen bar at £79.99, with a remote and wall or ceiling brackets, rated 4.1 from 316 reviews. Reviewers report useful heat even on the lower setting, a remote that works, and use on a balcony, a small patio or in a shed once the holes are drilled. The title claims IP65 and tells you to use an IP65 outdoor socket. One UK reviewer returned the unit unused because the paper instructions said indoor only while the advert said outdoor. A review also says not to fit it too near anything above, and that an 8 mm masonry bit was needed. The cable is 182 cm. The listing’s maximum-temperature field reads 2,000 °C, which is not a usable surface figure, and coverage is printed as 16 foot. If your manual forbids outdoor use, this is an indoor bar whatever the thumbnail shows.

Pros

  • Remote, with 1,000 W and 2,000 W settings
  • IP65 claimed, and the bullet names an IP65 outdoor socket
  • Wall or ceiling brackets included
  • Reviews praise heat on the low setting and a solid metal build

Cons

  • At least one manual was read as indoor only against the outdoor title
  • Drilling is required, and clearance above matters
  • The cable is 182 cm
  • The temperature and coverage fields are not credible measurements

Best for: A covered patio or balcony where the booklet matches the outdoor title and you can drill a bracket

Less suitable: A copy whose instructions say indoor only, a tool-free install, or a bathroom zone

Könighaus Smart Dual 800 W

Rank 7

Könighaus Smart Dual 800 W

∼£170

Our view

The Könighaus Smart Dual 800 W lists at £169.90 with the same Wi-Fi, remote, towel rail and feet story as the 450 W panel, and 4.1 from 159 reviews. Only five of the first 25 saved reviews are from the United Kingdom, so most of that star line is not British opinion. One UK reviewer reported instant heat and easy controls. Another measured about a 1 °C room rise after two hours and suspected a fault. A third called it a hot metal panel rather than the infrared they expected, and 800 W is still described as a small room. The mounting bullet still says to mount the 450 W panel, the form-factor field says Cabinet, and one panel arrived bent on an edge. IP44 is claimed without a zone. You pay £70 more than the 450 W row for more watts on a listing that has not been cleaned up.

Pros

  • 800 W in the title and the heat-output field
  • App and remote claimed, with feet and a towel holder
  • One UK review praises easy controls
  • IP44 and dual overheat protection claimed

Cons

  • The mounting bullet still says 450 W
  • Few of the saved reviews are from the UK
  • One unit barely raised the room temperature, and another arrived bent
  • £169.90 for a panel reviews still call a small-room heater

Best for: A room where 450 W is plainly short, once you have checked the plate against the 800 W title

Less suitable: Buyers who need a deep set of UK reviews, or anyone reading the copied 450 W sentence as the real output

Könighaus Smart Dual 450 W

Rank 8

Könighaus Smart Dual 450 W

∼£100

Our view

The Könighaus Smart Dual 450 W is a white panel at £99.90 with Wi-Fi, a remote, feet and a towel rail claimed, and 3.8 from 582 reviews. UK reviewers say it is fine for a small area or one workspace, quiet, with no fan smell, and that the face warms in a couple of minutes. The same reviews say it does not heat a large room, which matches 450 W rather than a surprise fault. One reviewer reports a sensor reading over 100 °C on the face, so the towel rail is not a reason to cover the panel. IP44 and dual overheat protection are claimed for a suitable bathroom, without a wiring zone. The maximum temperature setting field reads 40 °C. Feet avoid drilling, and the wall fix uses the supplied material. The star line is the weakest in the set, and the written reason is the size of room people hoped it would heat.

Pros

  • 450 W panel with feet or a wall fix
  • Wi-Fi schedules and a remote claimed
  • Quiet in reviews, and useful as close personal heat
  • A large sample, at 582 reviews

Cons

  • 3.8 stars, with reviews saying it fails as a large-room heater
  • One reviewer measured the face above 100 °C
  • IP44 is not a bathroom-zone approval
  • Dimensions and weight are missing from the saved specs

Best for: A small occupied room or a workspace where you want a quiet panel and will keep the face clear

Less suitable: A draughty lounge, a patio, or drying clothes across the whole panel

How we compared

Eight amazon.co.uk listings, with prices saved on 19 October 2026. This is not a lab test. A printed wattage, an IP code or a coverage line is the seller’s text. Stars are the amazon.co.uk line. The score starts from stars and review volume, then applies listing deductions before rounding to the nearest integer. Deductions: Pro Breeze PB-H16, 4 points, because a UK review says the paper instructions read indoor only against an IP65 outdoor title; SOUTHEATIC TW30R, 5 points, because the IP65 bullet is cut off in the saved listing; Könighaus Smart Dual 800 W, 6 points, because the mounting bullet still says 450 W; Hocosyme UK-T-180W, 15 points, because the title says 180 W and a bullet says 1,000 W, and the thermostat lines contradict each other. A 95% efficiency bullet is not a score point. 200 square feet and 16 foot are not measured heated areas. IP65 is not bathroom permission. The highest score is the top pick. Best value is the lowest price among the other rows that still score at least 50.

1

Amazon stars

80%

Amazon stars divided by five, then times 80. The Warmlite and the Harrier are both 4.4. The SONBION is 4.2 from 511 reviews. The SOUTHEATIC is 4.7 from 11 reviews, which does not outrank the larger samples once volume and the IP-bullet deduction are applied.

2

Infrared heater buying guide

Choose the job before the brand. A panel is quiet background heat in a small closed room. A glowing quartz, halogen or carbon heater is warmth in about a minute on a person, in a shed, or on a covered terrace. Then check watts, a real thermostat if it will run for hours, and an IP rating that matches the manual. Eight amazon.co.uk listings, priced on 19 October 2026, are the set below.

What is an infrared heater?

Far-infrared panels and glowing heaters are both sold as infrared heaters, and they do different jobs. A panel is a flat resistive face with no fan. You fix it to a wall or stand it on feet. Some add a towel rail and Wi-Fi. In this set that is the Könighaus Smart Dual 450 W at about £99.90, with 3.8 from 582 reviews and IP44 claimed, and the 800 W at about £169.90, with 4.1 from 159 reviews.

Best for

  • Renters and home-workers who want plug-in heat at a desk or in one chilly room
  • Patio users who have a covered terrace and a weatherproof socket

Not ideal for

  • A large draughty lounge heated by a single 450 W panel
  • Bathroom-zone wiring or a new outdoor socket without an electrician

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

    A 450 W panel for a whole lounge

A 450 W panel is a small room in the reviews. Buying it for a large draughty lounge is a sizing miss. The Könighaus 450 W reviews say it does not heat a large room, which matches the wattage.

  2. 2

    Trusting a 95% efficient bullet

One kilowatt-hour of electricity is about one kilowatt-hour of heat. A 95% or 98% line is not a measured saving against another electric heater of the same wattage. A lower bill comes from fewer watts and from switching off.

  3. 3

A manual that says indoor only

One Pro Breeze reviewer returned the unit because the paper instructions said indoor only while the title said outdoor. If the booklet and the title disagree, follow the booklet. Do not share a 3 kW load on an extension reel.

What to weigh up

Type and watts

High

Start with the type, because a panel and a glowing tube should not share one recommendation. A panel suits quiet background heat in a small closed room. A glowing quartz, halogen or carbon heater suits a seat, a shed or a covered terrace, where you want warmth in about a minute. Then match watts to the job. Seller sizing tables, not a British Standard, often sit around 15 W per cubic metre in a very new insulated home and around 30 W per cubic metre in a poorly insulated pre-1930 home.

Water, plug and control

High

Water and place come next. IPX4 or IP44 means splash. IP65 means jets. The outdoor socket is a separate rating, and Electrical Safety First asks for an outdoor socket of at least IP44. Bathroom zones follow BS 7671, not the product title, so an IP bullet is not permission to fit a heater in a bathroom zone. In England, a new circuit, a consumer-unit change, or work in a bathroom special location is notifiable under Part P. Plugging into an existing suitable socket is not.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Desk or one chilly room

You want plug-in heat at a desk or in one room, and you will switch it off when you leave. The Warmlite WL42013 is the top pick at about £56.46: 4.4 from 1,197 reviews, 500 W and 1,000 W, 70° oscillation, 2.2 kg. The saved specs do not confirm a timer, and patio use is not settled.

Our recommendation

View offer

Small closed room

You want quiet background heat from a panel, on feet or on a wall. The Könighaus Smart Dual 450 W is about £99.90, with Wi-Fi and a remote claimed, IP44 claimed, and 3.8 from 582 reviews. Reviews say it does not heat a large lounge. That matches 450 W.

Covered terrace

You need a lamp for a covered terrace and a weatherproof socket close to the seats. The Harrier at about £48.99 is 2,000 W with three settings, IPX4 claimed, and 4.4 from 342 reviews. The 1.8 m lead is short. IPX4 is splash resistance, not a storm rating.

Common questions about infrared heaters

Which infrared heater is the top pick for 2026?
The top pick is the Warmlite WL42013 at about £56.46. It has the highest score in this set: 4.4 from 1,197 amazon.co.uk reviews, with 500 W and 1,000 W and 70° oscillation. Reviewers describe warmth on a person in about a minute. The stand is called wobbly, and the saved specs do not confirm a timer. The usage field says indoor, while a recommended-use line also says outdoor, so treat it as a directional indoor heater.
How much does an infrared heater cost on amazon.co.uk?
Saved amazon.co.uk prices on 19 October 2026 run from about £39.95 to £179.97. Under £60 are the SONBION (£39.95), Harrier (£48.99), Warmlite (£56.46) and Hocosyme (£59.99). The Pro Breeze is £79.99 and the Könighaus 450 W is £99.90. The Könighaus 800 W is £169.90 and the SOUTHEATIC is £179.97. Best value is the SONBION, the lowest price among rows that still score at least 50 and are not the top pick.
Do infrared heaters use less electricity than other electric heaters?
No. An infrared heater does not use less electricity than another electric heater of the same wattage while both are on. One kilowatt-hour of electricity is about one kilowatt-hour of heat. A lower bill comes from fewer watts and from switching off. Ofgem’s Great Britain Direct Debit tariff for 1 October to 31 December 2026 is 26.32 p/kWh. Northern Ireland is outside that cap. At full power that is about 26 p an hour at 1 kW. A 95% efficient bullet is not a measured saving.
What IP rating should an outdoor infrared heater have?
IPX4 or IP44 is splash resistance. IP65 is protection against jets. Neither code means the heater can sit in a storm, and neither is a bathroom approval. Electrical Safety First asks for an outdoor socket of at least IP44, rated separately from the heater. The Harrier claims IPX4. The Pro Breeze and SOUTHEATIC claim IP65. One Pro Breeze reviewer read the instructions as indoor only. If the manual and the title disagree, follow the manual.
Can I put an infrared heater in a bathroom?
Only where the IP rating and the bathroom zone allow it, which often means an electrician. Bathroom zones follow BS 7671, not the product title. IP44 on a Könighaus panel, or IP65 on a patio bar, is not permission for every bathroom. In England, work in a bathroom special location can be notifiable under Part P. Do not dry towels across the face. One Könighaus review reported a face reading above 100 °C.
What wattage do I need?
Use watts as a rule of thumb, not as a measured heated area. Electric Radiators Direct cites about 15 W per cubic metre in a very new insulated home and about 30 W per cubic metre in a poorly insulated pre-1930 home. A 450 W panel is a small room in the reviews, not a draughty lounge. If you already want a stated 1,000 W model, use the 1000W infrared heater comparison. A 3,000 W bar sits at the top of a 13 A socket.
Why does the Hocosyme listing show two wattages?
The Hocosyme UK-T-180W at about £59.99 prints 180 W in the title, the model and the heat-output field, and 1,000 W in a bullet for 2–6 m². Three reviews cannot say which plate arrived. Special features say programmable thermostat, while a bullet says a thermostat is recommended. Until the wattage is one number, you cannot size a room from this row.
When should I call an electrician?
Call an electrician for bathroom-zone wiring, a new outdoor socket, a hard-wired spur, a load above one 13 A socket, or a burnt plug or a tripping breaker. A BS 1363 plug in an existing suitable socket is the ordinary case and is not the same as adding a circuit. Do not run a 3 kW heater from an extension reel. Unplug at night, keep one metre from combustibles, and do not dry clothes on the heater.

Our verdict

The top pick is the Warmlite WL42013 at about £56.46. It has the highest score: 4.4 from 1,197 reviews, 500 W and 1,000 W, and 70° oscillation on a 2.2 kg carbon tower. The wobbly stand and the missing timer stay as limits, not as a further score cut. Best value is the SONBION LSG13 at about £39.95, the lowest price among the other rows that still score at least 50, with 4.2 from 511 reviews. Keep fabric off the grille. Skip the Warmlite for a patio left in the rain. Skip the SONBION if you need a panel with a thermostat.
