Heavy duty dowels comparison 2026

The best heavy duty dowels, compared.

Top pick: InnoHHustle 50 hinge inserts, 8.5 mm Best value: ZEONHAK 1,000 pins, 8 × 40 mm – About £15.99 for 1,000 grooved 8 × 40 mm pins, about 1.6 pence a pin, with two UK review bodies describing fit. Updated October 2026.

Peter F.Editor

Heavy duty dowels are what you search for when a UK furniture joint needs a short wooden pin. The same results also return a mixed pin kit, a thick birch craft rod, a steel locator for boards you will take apart, and a plastic sleeve for a stripped hinge screw. Those are different products. Common furniture pins are 6 mm, 8 mm or 10 mm, with a flute or groove so wood glue can spread. Measure the hole or the broken stub first. An 8 mm hole in 18 mm board is usual flat-pack practice, not a size on every packet, and a 10 mm hole in a thin edge can split the face. Trade lists often specify beech, about ±0.2 mm on diameter. Hardwood is not that specification. A fluted pin uses a brad-point bit of the same diameter. Use D2 or D3 PVA in the hole for indoor work, and do not fill the hole solid. A steel locator aligns boards and does not clamp them. The checks are in the [heavy duty dowels buying guide](/hub/screws-and-accessories/heavy-duty-dowels/sub/heavy-duty-dowels-buying-guide).

The best heavy duty dowels in detail

InnoHHustle 50 hinge inserts, 8.5 mm

Rank 1

InnoHHustle 50 hinge inserts, 8.5 mm

Our view

InnoHHustle is 50 white PP plastic inserts, 8.5 × 9.6 mm, at about £5.29, sold for stripped hinge holes. That is a hinge repair, and the row is a sleeve rather than a wooden dowel or an 8 mm furniture pin. The star line is 5.0 from two reviews, and the listing has no review bodies. A bullet says matching stainless steel screws, and the included-components line says 50 cabinet hinge screws, while the title names inserts. The listing does not settle whether those screws are extra to the 50 pieces. Item dimensions say 10 × 8 × 3 mm and the fastener size says 8.5 × 9.6 mm. The page asks whether they fit every hinge and does not answer, and installation is described as drill and tighten. Buy this row for a hinge hole that has lost its thread.

Pros

  • 50 PP inserts stated at 8.5 × 9.6 mm for stripped hinge holes
  • About £5.29
  • Bullets claim matching stainless steel screws
  • Installation is described as drill and tighten

Cons

  • Not a wooden dowel
  • 5.0 from two reviews, with no review bodies
  • Title, bullets and included-components line do not settle the screw count
  • Whether they fit every hinge is unanswered

Best for: A cabinet hinge screw is spinning in a stripped hole and you want a plastic sleeve.

Less suitable: The broken part in the board is a wooden dowel, or you need an 8 mm glued pin.

Common questions

Are these wooden dowels?

No. The title is 50 white PP plastic inserts, 8.5 mm by 9.6 mm, for stripped hinge holes.

Are screws included?

A bullet says matching stainless steel screws, and the included-components line says 50 cabinet hinge screws. The title names inserts. The listing does not settle whether those screws are extra to the 50.

Do they fit every hinge?

The page asks and does not answer. Installation is described as drill and tighten.

ZenithQuest steel pins for 8 mm holes

Rank 2

ZenithQuest steel pins for 8 mm holes

Our view

ZenithQuest lists carbon steel locating pins for 8 mm holes at about £7.99. The title says 16 pairs, the pieces field says 32, and the items field says 16, so the count is not one number. Item dimensions are 25 × 8 × 8 mm. Bullets say galvanised and the finish field says glossy. The star line is 5.0 from two reviews, with no review bodies in the listing. They are named for model-railway baseboards and general alignment, and they do not clamp the joint. Glue and screws are not included. A 5.0 from two ratings is not a measured alignment, so use them when you will open the boards and still bolt or clip them.

Pros

  • Stated for 8 mm holes
  • Carbon steel locating pin, about £7.99
  • Named for baseboard alignment you can undo

Cons

  • Title says 16 pairs, pieces says 32, items says 16
  • 5.0 from two reviews, with no review bodies
  • Does not clamp the joint
  • Galvanised in the bullets, glossy in the finish field

Best for: You are lining up boards you will open, and you will still bolt or clip the joint.

Less suitable: You are gluing a cabinet shut, or you need a count the listing agrees on.

Do they clamp the joint?

No. They are locating pins for pre-drilled holes, named first for model-railway baseboards.

Yukesaky 300 pins, 6 × 30 mm

Rank 3

Yukesaky 300 pins, 6 × 30 mm

Our view

Yukesaky sells 300 fluted pins, all 6 × 30 mm, at about £6.47. The title says hardwood and names no species. The star line is 5.0 from one review, and the listing has no review body, so the perfect score is a single rating. The bullets say the flutes let wood glue spread and let excess glue out, and they do not list glue in the pack. The page asks whether the pins are pre-glued and does not answer. Item weight is 57 g for 300 pins, which is light beside the 150 g line on the Cyiamku row of the same stated size. Buy this only if every hole you have is already 6 mm and 30 mm is long enough for the board.

Pros

  • 300 pins, all stated as 6 × 30 mm
  • Flutes described for glue spread and excess glue
  • About £6.47, about 2 pence a pin
  • Chamfered ends are stated

Cons

  • 5.0 from one review, with no review body
  • Hardwood names no species
  • Glue is not in the pack, and pre-glued is unanswered
  • 57 g is a light weight line for 300 pins

Best for: Every hole you have is already 6 mm and you want 300 pins of 30 mm length.

Less suitable: You still need 8 mm or 10 mm, or you want a review sample you can read.

Is the wood a named species?

No. The title and bullets say hardwood. No species is named.

Coowayze 6 birch rods, 2.5 × 30 cm

Rank 4

Coowayze 6 birch rods, 2.5 × 30 cm

∼£11

Our view

Coowayze lists six unfinished birch rods, about 2.5 cm by 30 cm, at about £10.99, with item dimensions of 30.5 × 2.5 × 2.5 cm and a weight of 600 g. The listing names them for macramé, crafts, rails and similar uses, and says they can be painted, stained, trimmed or left bare. They are smooth round rods, not fluted furniture pins. The star line is 4.6 from 831 reviews. The review sample mixes countries, and some reviews describe other diameters and counts, including a UK note of 28 rods against a count of 30, so that average is not a vote for this six-piece title alone. One UK review says the diameter was smaller than described. Glue, paint and fittings are not included. Keep them for a craft rod you will cut.

Pros

  • Birch is named, unlike the untitled wood on the pin packs
  • Six rods about 2.5 cm by 30 cm at about £10.99
  • Listing says they can be cut, painted, stained or left bare
  • 4.6 from 831 on the listing line

Cons

  • Not a fluted 6, 8 or 10 mm furniture pin
  • Some reviews describe other diameters and counts
  • One UK review reports 28 rods against a count of 30
  • One UK review says the diameter was smaller than described

Best for: You want unfinished birch rod for craft, a rail or a stick you will cut to length.

Less suitable: You are replacing an 8 mm flat-pack dowel or gluing a cabinet joint.

The listing says they can be painted or stained, or left bare, and that they can be trimmed. Glue and fittings are not included.

Does the 4.6 from 831 match only this 6-piece title?

ZEONHAK 1,000 pins, 8 × 40 mm

Rank 5

ZEONHAK 1,000 pins, 8 × 40 mm

∼£16

Our view

ZEONHAK is 1,000 grooved wooden pins, all 8 × 40 mm, at about £15.99, about 1.6 pence a pin and the lowest unit price in this comparison. The star line is 4.6 from 13 reviews. One UK buyer says the pins used so far were a consistent size and fitted an 8 mm drilled hole snugly, and describes them as robust for the job. The other body calls them great value for the quantity. Neither review body criticises them, and the written sample is still only two reviews, so the praise is narrow. Species is not named, glue is not in the pack, and the page asks whether the pins can be painted or cut without answering. Item weight is 1.36 kg. It is the best value row when your holes are already 8 mm and you will use a lot of 40 mm pins.

Pros

  • 1,000 pins, all 8 × 40 mm, at about £15.99
  • About 1.6 pence a pin, the lowest unit price here
  • One UK review describes a snug fit in an 8 mm drilled hole
  • Both UK review bodies are positive

Cons

  • Only two UK review bodies behind 4.6 from 13
  • Species is not named
  • Glue is not included
  • No 6 mm or 10 mm pins in the pack

Best for: Your holes are already 8 mm and you will use a lot of 40 mm grooved pins.

Less suitable: You still need a mix of diameters, or you want a review sample in the thousands.

PanBeiQi 90 mixed wooden pins

Rank 6

PanBeiQi 90 mixed wooden pins

Our view

The PanBeiQi pack is 90 wooden pins at about £4.49 on the amazon.co.uk listing, stated as 6 × 30 mm, 8 × 40 mm and 10 × 40 mm, with 4.4 from 3,255 reviews. That is the only large review sample among the wooden pins in this comparison, and reviewers use the mix for flat-pack, chairs, cupboards and doors. How many of each size is not stated. One reviewer guessed 30 of each and wrote that they did not count. Two UK reviews say the pins measured about 0.5 mm undersize and sat loose in 6 mm, 8 mm and 10 mm holes. More than one review says pins snap while you are fitting them, beside other buyers who say these pins held where the originals had snapped. Glue is not in the pack, the pins arrive mixed in a thin cardboard box, and the species is not named. It is the top pick here when you need those three diameters and you will dry-fit a pin before you glue.

Pros

  • 4.4 from 3,255, the large sample in this set
  • States 6 × 30 mm, 8 × 40 mm and 10 × 40 mm
  • About £4.49 for 90 pins
  • Reviewers use it for chairs, cupboards and flat-pack holes

Cons

  • Size split is not stated
  • Two UK reviews say about 0.5 mm undersize
  • More than one review says pins snap during fitting
  • Glue is not included, and the pins arrive mixed in a thin box

Best for: You need 6 mm, 8 mm and 10 mm wooden pins in one cheap pack and you will dry-fit one pin before you glue.

Less suitable: You need a counted split, a named beech pin, or a joint you will take apart again.

Common questions

Which sizes are in the 90-piece pack?

The size line states 6 × 30 mm, 8 × 40 mm and 10 × 40 mm. How many of each size is not stated.

Is glue in the pack?

No. Several reviews say to add wood glue. One review says glue is optional.

Did buyers find them the stated diameter?

Two UK reviews say the pins measured about 0.5 mm undersize and were loose in same-size holes.

ShiFaKa 225 mixed wooden pins

Rank 7

ShiFaKa 225 mixed wooden pins

Our view

ShiFaKa lists 225 grooved pins at about £7.99, and the bullets count each line: 70 of 6 × 30 mm, 50 of 6 × 40 mm, 30 of 6 × 50 mm, 30 of 8 × 30 mm, 15 of 8 × 40 mm, 10 of 8 × 50 mm, 10 of 10 × 40 mm and 10 of 10 × 50 mm. The material line says lotus wood, which is not a UK timber grade and is not stated as beech. The star line is 4.2 from 36 reviews, with five UK review bodies. Those bodies praise a snug fit in existing holes and in holes the buyer drilled, and one buyer could not snap the thinnest size easily. The same sample calls 225 too few for anything but a small job. UK reviews describe a flip-lid plastic box with separate slots, while the spec block does not name the case. Glue is not included, and each 10 mm line is only ten pins.

Pros

  • Bullet counts for all eight size lines
  • Includes 50 mm lengths as well as 30 mm and 40 mm
  • 4.2 from 36, with five UK bodies describing a snug fit
  • Reviews describe a lidded box with separate slots

Cons

  • Lotus wood is not stated as beech
  • 225 is called too few for a large job
  • Only ten pins on each 10 mm line
  • The spec block does not name the case, and glue is not included

Best for: You want the count per size written down and the job is a repair or a sample, not a whole kitchen.

Less suitable: You need hundreds of one diameter, or a timber species a UK grade would recognise.

Xatgiouy 300 pins, 6 × 30 mm

Rank 8

Xatgiouy 300 pins, 6 × 30 mm

Our view

Xatgiouy lists 300 fluted pins at 6 × 30 mm for about £6.96, with hardwood in the title and no species. The star line is 4.0 from eight reviews, and two UK review bodies are on the listing. One calls them good value. The other says the pins break very easily and will not give the result needed. That break note is one buyer, not a repeated count, and it is why this row does not win on price against the other 6 × 30 mm packs. A 25 × 6 × 2.3 cm line reads as the pack rather than the pin. The page asks about outdoor use and does not answer. Glue is not included.

Pros

  • 300 pins stated as 6 × 30 mm
  • One of the two UK bodies calls them good value
  • Fluted surface is stated

Cons

  • One UK review says the pins break very easily
  • 4.0 from only eight reviews
  • Hardwood names no species
  • Outdoor use is asked and not answered

Best for: You want another 6 × 30 mm option and you have read the break review before you rely on it.

Less suitable: A repair pin has already snapped in your hand, or the hole is not 6 mm.

Cyiamku 300 pins, 6 × 30 mm

Rank 9

Cyiamku 300 pins, 6 × 30 mm

Our view

Cyiamku is 300 fluted pins at 6 × 30 mm for about £6.49, with wood named and no species. The listing has no customer-review line and no review bodies, so there is no star average to set beside the 4.4 from 3,255 on the mixed pack. The listing says to use wood glue for a lasting joint and does not include glue. Item weight is 150 g and the pack dimensions are 17 × 14 × 2 cm. The compatible groove diameter field says 6 mm. At roughly two pence a pin the shelf price is low, and a price without a review line does not tell you whether the pins match a 6 mm bit. It is a one-size option you would check with a calliper on arrival.

Pros

  • 300 fluted pins stated as 6 × 30 mm
  • About £6.49, in the same price band as the other 6 × 30 mm bulk packs
  • Listing tells you to use wood glue
  • Pack weight of 150 g is stated

Cons

  • No customer-review line and no review bodies
  • Species is not named
  • Glue is not in the pack

Best for: You have already measured 6 mm holes and you accept a pack with no review text.

Less suitable: You want stars you can compare, or any diameter other than 6 mm.

Shentu 16 steel pins, 8 × 24.5 mm

Rank 10

Shentu 16 steel pins, 8 × 24.5 mm

Our view

Shentu lists 16 pins at 8 × 24.5 mm for about £8.99, described as eight pairs, with a knurl and a stated 15 degree chamfer. The material field says iron and the bullets say hardened carbon steel with a galvanised layer. A bullet claims up to 250 lb without bending and a diameter within plus or minus 0.02 mm. Both figures are listing claims, with no test and no customer-review line. Item weight is 20 g, the same weight line as the ZenithQuest pack, which makes the mass hard to use as a check. The bullets describe lining boards up and concealing the pin, and they do not say the pin clamps the joint. Screws and glue are not listed, though a one-year warranty is in the product warranty field. This is a steel locator for an 8 mm hole you will open.

Pros

  • Length is stated as 24.5 mm, with a knurl and a 15 degree chamfer
  • 16 pieces, described as eight pairs
  • A one-year warranty is in the warranty field

Cons

  • No customer-review line
  • Material field says iron, bullets say hardened carbon steel
  • 250 lb and ±0.02 mm are bullet claims, not a test
  • Does not clamp the joint

Best for: You want a short knurled pin for an 8 mm hole in boards you will take apart.

Less suitable: You need a glued wooden pin, a brass pattern-makers dowel, or a tested load figure.

Common questions

What size are the pins?

The title says 8 × 24.5 mm, 16 pieces, described as 8 pairs. The material field says iron. The bullets say hardened carbon steel with a galvanised layer.

Is the 250 lb line a test?

No. It is a bullet claim. There is no test, and there is no customer-review line.

Do they clamp a baseboard?

The bullets describe lining up boards and concealing the pin in the hole. They do not say the pin clamps the joint. Screws and glue are not listed.

How we compared

Ten amazon.co.uk listings were scored from the stored pages and the review notes already on file. There is no laboratory pull-out test. A star rating is not a measured diameter. The highest score is the top pick, once. Best value is the wooden pin with the lowest price per piece among packs that have at least two UK review bodies describing fit. The weights below sum to 100.

1

Job match

25%

A grooved or fluted wooden pin in a stated 6, 8 or 10 mm furniture size scores high. A steel locator scores low because it aligns a joint you will open. A plastic hinge insert and a 25 mm birch rod score lower still.

2

Stars

20%

The amazon.co.uk star line is scored as the rating divided by 5, then multiplied by 20, and rounded. A listing with no review line scores 0. Stars are not a workshop trial.

3

Sample

24%

1,000 or more reviews score 22 to 24. About 800 scores 16 when some reviews describe other pack counts. About 30 scores 10. Ten to 20 scores 6. Fewer than 10 scores 3. No review line scores 0.

4

Listing consistency

16%

The score starts higher when the bullets and the specification describe the same object and a UK review describes fit. Points come off for an unstated size split, a count that disagrees with the title, iron versus steel, a load line with no test, and reviews that describe a different piece count.

5

Price for the stated job

15%

Unit price counts only after the diameter matches. About 1.6 pence for an 8 × 40 mm pin with two UK fit notes scores high. A 5.0 from one rating does not take this column on its own.

Heavy duty dowels buying guide

Match the job, then the hole, then the flute. A star line does not tell you the diameter. None of these scores is a pull-out test, and none of these listings states beech to DIN 68150.

What is a heavy duty dowel?

A heavy duty dowel, as the phrase is used on a UK search, is not one fixing. You are buying a short wooden pin for a glued joint, a mixed pin kit, a birch craft rod, a steel locator for boards you will take apart, or a plastic sleeve for a stripped hinge screw. Wooden furniture pins are usually 6 mm, 8 mm or 10 mm and fluted or grooved. A steel pin lines a joint up. It does not clamp it, and it is not a brass pattern-makers dowel. A white plastic insert is a hinge-hole sleeve.

Best for

  • Replacing a snapped pin in a chair, cabinet or door once you have measured the stub
  • A new glued joint when you already know the hole is 6, 8 or 10 mm
  • Lining up boards you will open, if you still bolt or clip the joint

Not ideal for

  • A buyer who treats hardwood, or a 5.0 from one rating, as beech to DIN 68150
  • A steel locator asked to clamp a cabinet shut
  • A 25 mm birch rod used as an 8 mm furniture pin

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

Buying on the words heavy duty

That search returns wooden pins, steel locators, a plastic hinge sleeve and birch craft rods. Match the job first. A 25 mm rod will not replace an 8 mm furniture pin.

  2. 2

    Filling the hole with glue

Use D2 or D3 PVA in the hole, not a hole filled solid. Glue on a rattling pin does not fix a pin that is about 0.5 mm undersize. Dry-fit first. No pack here includes glue.

  3. 3

    Asking a locator to clamp

A steel pin lines boards up. It does not clamp them, and it is not a brass pattern-makers dowel. A wooden pin driven into end grain is a weak hinge repair. Use a plastic insert or a repair plate for a stripped hinge screw.

What to weigh up

Job, diameter and length

High

Start with the job. A glued chair, cabinet or door needs a wooden pin and glue you buy separately. A joint you will open, such as a baseboard or a table leaf, needs a steel locator plus a bolt or a clip. The pin does not clamp the boards. A crumbled hinge screw needs a plastic insert or a repair plate, not a wooden pin in end grain. A rod about 25 mm by 300 mm is a craft stick. It is not an 8 mm furniture pin. Then take diameter and length from the stub or the hole.

Flutes, named wood and piece price

High

A fluted or grooved pin uses a brad-point bit of the same diameter. A plain pin buried at both ends needs about 1 mm of clearance. A worked example for an 8 × 30 mm pin is about 17 mm into the edge and about 15 mm into the face. Put D2 or D3 PVA in the hole. Do not fill the hole solid. BS EN 204:2016 classes the glue, not the pin. D3 is for interior damp and sheltered outdoors. D4 is for longer wetting, or weather only with a coating. None of these packs includes glue.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

A snapped flat-pack pin

You are replacing pins in a chair, cupboard or door and the next hole may not be the same diameter. The PanBeiQi pack is the top pick at about £4.49: 90 pins stated as 6 × 30 mm, 8 × 40 mm and 10 × 40 mm, with 4.4 from 3,255 reviews. The split per size is not stated, and two UK reviews say about 0.5 mm undersize. Dry-fit one pin, then add glue. Glue is not in the pack.

A lot of 8 mm holes

Every hole is already 8 mm and you will use a lot of 40 mm grooved pins. The ZEONHAK pack is best value at about £15.99: 1,000 pins, all 8 × 40 mm, about 1.6 pence a pin. amazon.co.uk shows 4.6 from 13 reviews, and one UK buyer describes a snug fit in an 8 mm drilled hole. The written sample is two bodies. There is no 6 mm or 10 mm pin in the box.

Boards you will open

You are lining up a model-railway baseboard or a table leaf, and you will still bolt or clip the joint. The ZenithQuest pins are carbon steel locators stated for 8 mm holes, at about £7.99. The title says 16 pairs, the pieces field says 32, and the items field says 16. They do not clamp. A 5.0 from two reviews has no review bodies.

Common questions about heavy duty dowels

Which heavy duty dowel is the top pick in 2026?
The top pick is the PanBeiQi pack of 90 wooden pins at about £4.49, stated as 6 × 30 mm, 8 × 40 mm and 10 × 40 mm. amazon.co.uk shows 4.4 from 3,255 reviews, the large sample among the wooden pins here. The split per size is not stated. Two UK reviews say the pins measured about 0.5 mm undersize, and more than one review says pins snap during fitting. Glue is not included. Dry-fit one pin before you glue.
Which pack is best value?
The best value is the ZEONHAK pack of 1,000 grooved wooden pins, all 8 × 40 mm, at about £15.99. That is about 1.6 pence a pin, the lowest unit price among the wooden pins here, once the diameter matches. amazon.co.uk shows 4.6 from 13 reviews. One UK buyer describes a snug fit in an 8 mm drilled hole. The written sample is two reviews. Species is not named, and glue is not in the pack. Skip it if you still need 6 mm or 10 mm.
What diameter and length should you buy?
Measure the hole or the broken stub. Common furniture pins are 6 × 30 mm, 8 × 40 mm and 10 × 40 mm. A 10 mm hole in a thin edge can split the face. A fluted pin uses a brad-point bit of the same diameter. A flat biscuit is a different joint, set out in the flat dowel comparison. A 25 mm by 300 mm birch rod is a craft stick, not an 8 mm pin.
How much do heavy duty dowels cost?
On these amazon.co.uk listings, entry packs sit at about £4.49 to about £6.96: a 90-piece mix and 300-piece packs of 6 × 30 mm. Mid listings are about £7.99 to about £10.99, including a counted mix, steel locators and birch rods. The top of this comparison is about £15.99 for 1,000 pins of 8 × 40 mm, about 1.6 pence a pin. A 5.0 from one rating is not a higher tier. These are stored shelf prices, not a live scrape.
Do the packs include glue, and which adhesive should you use?
No pack in this comparison includes glue. Use D2 or D3 PVA in the hole for indoor furniture, not a hole filled solid. BS EN 204:2016 classes the adhesive, not the pin. D3 is for interior damp and sheltered outdoors. D4 is for longer wetting, or weather only with a coating. Glue on a rattling, undersize pin does not replace a pin that fits. For a stair, a bed rail or a soaked frame, ask a joiner.
Are these beech dowels to DIN 68150?
Do not treat these packs as beech to DIN 68150. Trade catalogues often specify beech with about ±0.2 mm on diameter. None of these ten listings states beech, FSC or DIN 68150. Hardwood on a title is not a species. Lotus wood, where a listing names it, is not a UK timber grade. Only the six-rod craft pack names birch, and those rods are about 25 mm by 300 mm, not furniture pins. A star average does not fill in a missing species.
Should you buy a steel pin instead of a wooden one?
Buy a wooden pin when the joint will be glued shut, as on a chair, cabinet or door. Buy a steel locator when you will open the boards again, such as a baseboard or a table leaf, and you will still bolt or clip the joint. The steel pins here are stated for 8 mm holes. They do not clamp, and they are not brass pattern-makers dowels. A plastic insert is for a stripped hinge screw, not a snapped wooden stub.
When should you stop and call a joiner?
Stop if the repair is a stair, a bed rail, a soaked exterior frame, or a kitchen side with several torn hinges. A wooden pin used as a hinge thread, a hole filled solid with glue, and a steel locator asked to clamp are the usual failures. Small pins are a choking hazard. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 covers goods not as described. A 250 lb bullet is a listing claim, not a test.

Our verdict

The top pick is the PanBeiQi pack of 90 wooden pins at about £4.49, stated as 6 × 30 mm, 8 × 40 mm and 10 × 40 mm, with 4.4 from 3,255 reviews. The size split is not stated, and two UK reviews say the pins measured about 0.5 mm undersize, so dry-fit one pin before you glue. The best value is the ZEONHAK pack of 1,000 grooved pins, all 8 × 40 mm, at about £15.99, about 1.6 pence a pin. amazon.co.uk shows 4.6 from 13 reviews, and one UK buyer describes a snug fit in an 8 mm drilled hole. The written sample is two bodies. None of these scores is a laboratory test, and none of these listings states beech or DIN 68150.
