Hose connector comparison 2026

The best Hose connectors, compared.

Top pick: CAKKVDE 16-piece connector kit Best value: Hozelock 2071 tap kit – About £7.95 with 4.6 from 1,608 reviews for a BSP tap connector and a hose connector, with no water stop named. Updated October 2026.

A hose connector joins a UK outside tap to a garden hose, joins two hose ends, or clicks a spray gun on and off. You buy one when the hose will not stay on the tap, when changing a gun soaks you, or when you want a second outlet from the same spout. The fitting is not the hose, and it is not a double check valve. You tell a suitable hose connector apart by the tap thread, the hose bore, and whether flow stops when the accessory comes off. Most outdoor taps are 3/4 inch BSP, about 26.4 mm across the thread, or older 1/2 inch BSP, about 21 mm. Parallel BSP seals on a washer. A 3/4 inch tap does not need a 3/4 inch hose. Domestic hose is often 12.5 mm or 15 mm. NPT, GHT and UN are not BSP. One click family does not fit every gun. A water stop is separate from the screw fitting on the tap. Measure both ends in the [hose connector buying guide](/hub/garden-watering/hose-connector/sub/hose-connector-buying-guide).

A hose connector joins a UK outside tap to a garden hose, joins two hose ends, or clicks a spray gun on and off.

The best Hose connectors in detail

CAKKVDE 16-piece connector kit

Rank 1

CAKKVDE 16-piece connector kit

∼£10

Our view

The CAKKVDE 16-piece kit is listed at about £9.99, with 4.8 from 20 reviews. The bullets describe ABS quick couplers, rubber seals, waterstop valves, repair fittings, an 18–24 mm tap adapter, and a spray nozzle, in a pack of 23 x 12.5 x 4 cm at 280 g. The included-components field names only a hose repair connector. Five UK reviews were read. They praise a no-leak join, including expanding hoses, and they do not report a snap. One buyer will not speak for longevity, and another notes a plastic bag. Twenty ratings and five written reviews are a thin record next to the Hozelock listings.

Pros

  • About £9.99 for 16 pieces, with a nozzle in the bullets
  • Waterstop valves named
  • The five UK reviews do not report a leak
  • Yellow parts called out for identification

Cons

  • 4.8 from only 20 ratings, and five UK reviews read
  • Included-components field is thinner than the bullets
  • Tap adapter printed as 18–24 mm, with no BSP line
  • Longevity not covered by the reviews

Best for: You want a cheap bag of couplers and a nozzle and you accept that almost none of the reviews read cover a second season.

Less suitable: You want a review record in the thousands, or a tap connector that prints BSP.

Is a spray nozzle included?

The bullets include a spray nozzle. The included-components field prints only Hose Repair Connector, so the two lines on the listing do not match.

Hozelock 2352 starter set

Rank 2

Hozelock 2352 starter set

∼£14

Our view

The Hozelock 2352 starter set is listed at about £13.97, with 4.6 from 11,105 reviews. The box is four parts: a nozzle, a hose-end connector, a waterstop connector, and a threaded tap connector for 12.5 mm and 15 mm hose. The tap line says 95 percent of outdoor taps. Packed size is 29 x 12 x 4 cm at 68 g. Of the 50 UK reviews read, fit and the absence of leaks are the common praise, and the nozzle is called basic. One review describes that nozzle splitting after a frost. It is the full branded start in this set, with a simple spray piece rather than a multi-pattern gun.

Pros

  • Four branded parts in one box, including a water stop
  • 12.5 mm and 15 mm hose, and a 95 percent tap claim on the listing
  • 4.6 from 11,105 reviews
  • Reviews praise fit on a standard garden hose

Cons

  • Nozzle has no trigger, according to reviews
  • One review describes the nozzle splitting after frost
  • Thread form is not named, only threaded tap connector

Best for: You are starting from a bare tap and a 12.5 mm or 15 mm hose and you want the Hozelock pieces in one box.

Less suitable: You want a trigger gun, a two-way splitter, or only the single water-stop connector.

Hozelock Aquastop 2185

Rank 3

Hozelock Aquastop 2185

Our view

The Hozelock 2185 Aquastop is listed at about £5.00, with 4.6 from 3,881 reviews and rank 1 in Garden Hose Parts & Connectors. The bullets limit it to 12.5 mm and 15 mm hose and say flow stops when the accessory is disconnected. It is one plastic fitting at 42 g, not a tap connector and not a starter set. Of the 50 UK reviews read, the repeated praise is swapping a gun without a soak. A leak, an inexact tap fit, and frost-brittle plastic also appear. No bar rating is printed.

Pros

  • About £5.00, with 4.6 from 3,881 reviews
  • Listing states a water stop when the accessory comes off
  • Stated for 12.5 mm and 15 mm hose
  • Rank 1 in Garden Hose Parts & Connectors

Cons

  • One fitting only, so the tap end is a separate part
  • Item length 140 mm and a dimensions field of 10 x 10 x 10 mm are both printed
  • Reviews include a leak, an inexact tap fit, and brittle plastic after frost

Best for: You already have a Hozelock click hose and you get soaked when you change the gun.

Less suitable: You still need a tap connector, a full starter set, or a printed pressure rating.

Is a bar rating printed?

No pressure figure is printed on this listing. The material line says plastic, and the weight is 42 g.

What do the UK reviews repeat?

Of the 50 reviews read, buyers praise the stop when a gun comes off and the fit with other Hozelock parts. The same sample includes a leak that was hard to stop, a tap that did not fit exactly, and a note that fittings go brittle if left out in frost.

Hozelock 2071 tap kit

Rank 4

Hozelock 2071 tap kit

Our view

The Hozelock 2071 is listed at about £7.95, with 4.6 from 1,608 reviews. The title pairs an outdoor tap connector for 21–26.5 mm taps with a hose connector for 12.5–15 mm hose, and the specification table prints BSP and DuPont Delrin acetal. It is the two-part start, not a water stop and not a nozzle. Of the 50 UK reviews read, fit on a new tap is the common praise, and one buyer reports a small leak under what they call high mains pressure. A one-year guarantee is printed. The hose itself is not in the box.

Pros

  • About £7.95 for a tap connector and a hose connector
  • Tap range 21–26.5 mm and hose 12.5–15 mm printed on the title
  • Thread type BSP and Delrin acetal on the listing
  • 4.6 from 1,608 reviews

Cons

  • No water stop named
  • Hose not included
  • One review reports a small leak and blames mains pressure

Best for: You have a bare outside tap and a 12.5 mm or 15 mm hose and you want the Hozelock pair that screws on and clicks.

Less suitable: You need the valve that stops flow when the gun comes off, or you need a nozzle in the same box.

WASH IT! 10-piece set with gun

Rank 5

WASH IT! 10-piece set with gun

∼£17

Our view

The WASH IT! set, model 2565, is listed at about £16.95, with 4.5 from 80 reviews. Redstar Online Limited is the manufacturer. The box is two outside tap connectors, six quick couplings, a Y connector, and an eight-pattern gun, at 300 g, with no hose. The thread table prints 19 mm and BSPT on the outlet. Best-sellers rank sits under garden hose nozzles. Of the 43 UK reviews read, the spray patterns are the main praise. One buyer wanted a stop the couplings do not have, and another reports a bad leak on first use. It is a connector set with a gun, not a single Hozelock water stop.

Pros

  • Ten pieces, including a Y connector and two tap connectors
  • Eight spray patterns named
  • 4.5 from 80 reviews
  • Tool-free click described in the bullets

Cons

  • Couplings have no stop valve, according to a review

  • One review reports a bad leak on first use
  • Ranked under hose nozzles as well as being a connector set

Best for: You want spare couplings, a Y piece, and an eight-pattern gun in one box.

Less suitable: You want a water stop on the hose, or a listing that names 12.5 mm and 15 mm hose.

Does changing the gun stop the water?

A water stop is not in the bullet list. One UK review says the connectors have no stop valve, so changing heads soaks you. The gun has a flow switch that can stay on hands-free.

Which thread is printed?

The specification table prints thread size 19 mm, thread type 19 mm hose thread, and outlet connection type BSPT. It does not print 12.5 mm or 15 mm. Weight is 300 g.

GRIFEMA GE1201 quick coupler

Rank 6

GRIFEMA GE1201 quick coupler

Our view

The GRIFEMA GE1201 is listed at about £3.59, with 4.4 from 460 reviews. It is one plastic coupler at 31 g, stated for 12.5 mm to 15 mm hose, made in Spain for Ibergrif. The bullets call it a universal quick connector. The specification table prints thread type GHT, and those two lines are not reconciled on the page. Of the 31 UK reviews read, a no-leak click is common, and so are a pop-off and a thread that will not line up. Sunlight resistance is claimed via the coating. There is no water stop and no tap thread in millimetres.

Pros

  • About £3.59 for one coupler
  • 12.5–15 mm printed in the title
  • 4.4 from 460 reviews
  • Several UK reviews report a click with no leak

Cons

  • Thread type GHT is printed beside quick-coupler bullets
  • No water stop and no tap connector
  • Reviews include a hose that pops off and threads that pour water

Best for: You need one spare click coupler for a 12.5 mm or 15 mm hose and you will check it against the fitting you already own.

Less suitable: You need a tap connector for a BSP outside tap, or a fitting for a pressure washer.

BABADU 20-piece connector kit

Rank 7

BABADU 20-piece connector kit

∼£19

Our view

The BABADU 20-piece kit is listed at about £18.99, with 4.3 from 1,759 reviews. The bullets list a nozzle, repair connectors, quick connectors, a water stop, Y splitters, and tap adapters in ABS, at 454 g. The specification table prints thread type NPT and 0.75 inch. Of the 50 UK reviews read, the assortment is the praise, and leaks, a snapped neck, and a broken tap piece are the complaints. One buyer says the parts worked with their Hozelock fittings. That is one review, not the specification. The listing mentions pressure washers and does not give a bar rating.

Pros

  • 20 pieces, including a water stop and Y splitters
  • 4.3 from 1,759 reviews
  • Some reviews report a firm fit and no leak
  • Tool-free fitting stated

Cons

  • Thread type NPT is printed
  • Reviews include snapped plastic and a tap piece that broke quickly
  • Leaks where the hose meets the connector
  • A hose is not included

Best for: You want a large assortment of repair and splitter pieces and you will test each joint, knowing the listing prints NPT.

Less suitable: You want a BSP tap connector with a Hozelock model number, or a kit whose reviews do not feature snaps and leaks.

Tesmotor two-way tap splitter

Rank 8

Tesmotor two-way tap splitter

∼£14

Our view

The Tesmotor LYX-TC-2HS is listed at about £14.44, with 4.3 from 200 reviews. It is a plastic two-way splitter, 12 x 5 x 15 cm and 290 g, with an ABS handle on each outlet. The title says 3/4 inch. One bullet says EU-standard tap, and another says all 3/4 inch taps. Of the 28 UK reviews read, two hoses with separate shut-offs are the reason people kept it, and leaks at the top joint are the reason others returned it. One buyer could no longer fill a watering can without removing the unit. No hose bore and no BSP line are printed.

Pros

  • Separate valve on each outlet
  • 3/4 inch tap stated in the title
  • Some UK reviews report no leak after tape and careful tightening
  • 290 g plastic body

Cons

  • Other UK reviews report a leak at the top joint despite PTFE tape
  • One bullet says EU-standard tap as well as 3/4 inch
  • The spout is blocked for a watering can while the splitter stays on
  • Rank 667 in Garden Hose Parts & Connectors

Best for: You want two hoses from one 3/4 inch tap and you will leak-test it before you rely on it.

Less suitable: You want a single Hozelock click fitting, or a spout you can still put a watering can under.

Common questions

Can both hoses run at once?

The bullets say each outlet has its own ABS handle, so one outlet can be shut without the other. The title is a 3/4 inch two-way splitter for a garden or kitchen faucet. One bullet also says EU-standard tap.

Do the UK reviews say it leaks?

Of the 28 UK reviews read, some say it was leak-free after PTFE tape and careful tightening. Others say it leaked at the top joint even with tape, and one says it fell apart at first touch.

Can you still fill a watering can?

One review says the splitter stays on the spout, so filling a can means taking it off. Dimensions on the listing are 12 x 5 x 15 cm at 290 g.

Chudian 20-piece connector set

Rank 9

Chudian 20-piece connector set

Our view

The Chudian 20-piece set is listed at about £9.49, with 4.0 from 1,262 reviews. The bullets describe ABS tap parts for 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch and quick connectors for 12.7 mm inner diameter. Thread type is printed as UN, and the weight line is 22.5 g. Of the 39 UK reviews read, leaks on hose-to-hose joins and a cheap, brittle feel are the repeated complaints. One buyer says the yellow parts are not Hozelock. A few say individual male pieces were watertight. There is no water stop in the contents list.

Pros

  • About £9.49 for 20 pieces
  • 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch tap parts described
  • Some buyers say it was enough for occasional use
  • 4.0 from 1,262 reviews, so the sample is large

Cons

  • Leaks on female adaptors and pipe-to-pipe joins dominate the reviews
  • Thread type UN is printed
  • A review says they are not the Hozelock fitting
  • Weight printed as 22.5 g for the whole set

Best for: You want the cheapest 20-piece bag in this set and you will accept seep on a hose-to-hose join.

Less suitable: You need a watertight Hozelock click, a water stop, or a BSP tap connector.

How we compared

Nine amazon.co.uk hose-connector listings are on this page. Each score adds the captured star line and the review count, then a small plus or minus for what the listing states and what the UK reviews repeat. Here, 4.6 stars is 51 points, 4.4 is 48, 4.8 is 53, 4.5 is 50, 4.3 is 47 and 4.0 is 44. Review count is capped at 25 on the large samples. Smaller samples score lower: 460 reviews is 21, 200 is 18, 80 is 15 and 20 is 10. The Hozelock Aquastop 2185 adds 2 points because the listing states a water stop and rank 1 in Garden Hose Parts & Connectors, for a score of 78. Other listings lose points for a leak theme, a printed thread that is not BSP, too few written reviews to judge a second season, or a hose that pops off. This is not a laboratory test. The top pick is the Hozelock Aquastop 2185, score 78, at about £5.00 with 4.6 from 3,881 reviews. Best value is the Hozelock 2071 tap kit, score 76, at about £7.95 with 4.6 from 1,608 reviews.

1

Star line

55%

Points follow the amazon.co.uk star line captured on the listing. In these scores, 4.6 stars is 51 points, 4.8 is 53, 4.5 is 50, 4.4 is 48, 4.3 is 47 and 4.0 is 44. A five-star line would sit near the top of this block. It is not a lab test.

2

Review count

25%

Review count is capped at 25 points once the sample is in the hundreds or thousands. In these scores, 460 reviews is 21, 200 is 18, 80 is 15 and 20 is 10. A high star line on 20 ratings does not outrank 4.6 from thousands.

3

Listing fit and penalties

20%

A stated water stop, a printed BSP range, or rank in Garden Hose Parts & Connectors can add a small number of points. Points come off for leak and snap themes, a printed NPT, GHT or UN thread beside a UK tap job, a pop-off, or too few written reviews to judge a second season.

Hose connector buying guide

Match the tap thread and the hose bore before you compare piece counts. A hose connector screws onto a UK outside tap, clicks onto a hose, or shuts flow when a gun comes off. A splitter, a spray-gun set and a double check valve are different jobs. Prices and stars below are the amazon.co.uk lines captured for these nine listings, not a live check on 21 October 2026 and not a laboratory test.

What is a hose connector?

A hose connector is the fitting between a UK outside tap, a garden hose and a spray gun. It is not the hose, and it is not a double check valve. The usual pieces are a tap connector that screws onto the male tap thread, a hose-end connector that clicks onto that face, a water-stop connector that shuts flow when the accessory comes off, and joiners that sit in multi-packs. A two-way splitter and a spray-gun-led set are different buys. Start with the tap.

Best for

  • A click hose where changing the gun soaks you
  • A bare outside tap with a 12.5 mm or 15 mm hose
  • Two hoses from one tap, if you leak-test the splitter first

Not ideal for

  • A double check valve, or a way around a temporary use ban
  • A pressure-washer fitting, or a 10 bar claim copied from another model
  • Anyone who needs one yellow kit to fit every click gun they already own

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

Reading 3/4 inch as the hose

On most UK outdoor taps, 3/4 inch BSP is the tap thread, about 26.4 mm across. The hose is often 12.5 mm or 15 mm. Measure both. A 3/4 inch tap does not mean you need a 3/4 inch hose.

  2. 2

    Forcing NPT onto BSP

Parallel BSP seals on a washer. NPT is a 60 degree American taper. UK Flow Centre contrasts that with BSP at 55 degrees. Tape does not turn one into the other. If the thread jams, stop.

  3. 3

    Treating piece count as quality

A 16-piece or 20-piece bag can add joiners and still print NPT or UN, with leak and snap notes in the reviews. A 4.8 from 20 ratings is not a stronger record than 4.6 from thousands. Yellow plastic is not one click family.

What to weigh up

Tap thread and hose bore

High

Measure the male thread on the outside tap before you read a piece count. Most UK outdoor taps are 3/4 inch BSP, about 26.4 mm across the thread, or older 1/2 inch BSP, about 21 mm. A tap connector stated for about 21–26.5 mm, and for about 95 percent of outdoor taps, is covering that pair. Parallel BSP seals on a washer. If the listing prints NPT, GHT or UN, it is not describing that seal. Hose bore is the second measurement, not a restatement of the tap.

The missing end and the reviews

High

Name the job. A tap connector screws on. A hose-end clicks on. A water stop shuts flow when the gun comes off. One coupler is a spare, not a start from a bare tap. A two-part tap kit is the screw fitting plus the hose end, and it may not include a water stop. A four-piece box can add a basic nozzle. A splitter is two outlets, often with the watering-can fill blocked while it stays on the spout. Then read the sample.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Soaked when the gun comes off

You already have a click hose and you get wet when you change the gun. The Hozelock Aquastop 2185 is the top pick at about £5.00, with 4.6 from 3,881 reviews. The listing says flow stops when the accessory is disconnected, for 12.5 mm and 15 mm hose. It is one plastic fitting, not a tap connector. Of the 50 UK reviews read, a leak, an inexact tap fit and frost-brittle plastic also appear.

A bare outside tap

Nothing is on the spout yet, and the hose is 12.5 mm or 15 mm. The Hozelock 2071 tap kit is the best value at about £7.95, with 4.6 from 1,608 reviews. It is a tap connector for 21–26.5 mm taps, printed as BSP, plus a hose connector. A water stop is not named, and the hose is not in the box. One of the 50 UK reviews read reports a small leak and blames mains pressure.

Two hoses from one tap

You want two outlets and a valve on each. The Tesmotor two-way splitter is about £14.44, with 4.3 from 200 reviews, stated for a 3/4 inch tap. Of the 28 UK reviews read, some report no leak after PTFE tape and careful tightening. Others report a leak at the top joint, and one buyer could no longer fill a watering can without taking the unit off. Leak-test it before you rely on it.

Common questions about Hose connectors

Which hose connector is the top pick?
The top pick is the Hozelock Aquastop 2185 at about £5.00. The score is 78, from 4.6 stars and 3,881 amazon.co.uk reviews, plus 2 points because the listing states a water stop and rank 1 in Garden Hose Parts & Connectors. It is one plastic fitting for 12.5 mm and 15 mm hose, not a tap connector. Of the 50 UK reviews read, praise is swapping a gun without a soak. A leak, an inexact tap fit and frost-brittle plastic also appear. It is not a lab test.
Which hose connector is the best value?
The best value is the Hozelock 2071 tap kit at about £7.95. The score is 76, from 4.6 stars and 1,608 amazon.co.uk reviews. The title pairs a tap connector for 21–26.5 mm taps, printed as BSP, with a hose connector for 12.5–15 mm hose, in Delrin acetal. A water stop is not named, and the hose is not in the box. Of the 50 UK reviews read, fit on a new tap is the common praise. One buyer reports a small leak and blames mains pressure.
How much does a hose connector cost?
Captured shelf prices, not a live check on 21 October 2026, run from about £3.59 to about £18.99. A single coupler sits at about £3.59 and a water-stop connector at about £5.00. Mid listings run from about £7.95 to about £14.44, including a tap-and-hose pair, multi-packs, a four-piece starter and a two-way splitter. A ten-piece set with a gun is about £16.95, and a 20-piece kit is about £18.99. A captured price is not today's amazon.co.uk price.
What tap thread and hose bore should you match?
Most UK outdoor taps are 3/4 inch BSP, about 26.4 mm across the thread, or older 1/2 inch BSP, about 21 mm. Parallel BSP seals on a washer. Hose bore is separate: 12.5 mm and 15 mm are the sizes named for a hose-end and a water stop. A 3/4 inch tap does not need a 3/4 inch hose. NPT is a 60 degree American taper; UK Flow Centre contrasts that with BSP at 55 degrees. For the hose itself, see the garden hose comparison.
Does a hose connector include a double check valve?
No. An ordinary garden hose on a hose union tap in England and Wales usually needs a double check valve under the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999. Water Regs UK says a valve built into the tap was only the lawful form if fitted before 1 July 1999. Later they want it indoors, clear of frost, for a fluid category 3 tap. None of these listings is that valve, and none is shown as WRAS-approved. Scotland uses byelaws. Call a plumber to move a valve indoors.
Can you mix click fittings from different brands?
Do not assume it. Yellow plastic is not a specification, and one click family does not fit every gun. One UK review on the Chudian set says those parts are not the same fitting as Hozelock despite a similar colour. One BABADU review says the parts worked with Hozelock fittings the buyer already owned. That is one review, not the specification. GRIFEMA prints thread type GHT beside 12.5–15 mm coupler bullets, and those two lines are not reconciled. Check the new piece on the fitting you already own.
How is a tap splitter different from a hose connector?
A hose connector joins the tap, the hose or the gun. A tap splitter puts two outlets on one spout. The Tesmotor splitter is about £14.44, with 4.3 from 200 reviews and a valve on each outlet, stated for a 3/4 inch tap. Of the 28 UK reviews read, some report no leak after PTFE tape, and others report a leak at the top joint. One buyer could no longer fill a watering can without removing it. No hose bore and no BSP line are printed.
What changes with frost or a hosepipe ban?
Frost can split a connector left full of water. One Hozelock 2352 review describes the nozzle splitting after water was left in the hose. Drain the hose and bring plastic fittings in when you can. A temporary use ban is local. Water UK’s 2026 FAQ lists bans at several English companies. A connector is not a way around a ban, and these fittings are not pressure-washer parts. A 10 bar figure on other Plus and Pro pages is not printed on the Aquastop listing. Check your own water company.

Our verdict

The top pick is the Hozelock Aquastop 2185 at about £5.00. The score is 78, from 4.6 and 3,881 amazon.co.uk reviews, plus a stated water stop and rank 1 in Garden Hose Parts & Connectors. It is one plastic fitting for 12.5 mm and 15 mm hose, not a tap connector. Of the 50 UK reviews read, the repeated praise is swapping a gun without a soak. A leak, an inexact tap fit and frost-brittle plastic also appear. The best value is the Hozelock 2071 tap kit at about £7.95, score 76, with 4.6 from 1,608 reviews. It pairs a tap connector for 21–26.5 mm taps, printed as BSP, with a hose connector for 12.5–15 mm hose. A water stop is not named. One review reports a small leak and blames mains pressure. Neither score is a laboratory test.
