Best garden hose connector for your UK outside tap

Updated: 23 October 2026

You already know the hose is 12.5 mm or 15 mm. The best garden hose connector in this set depends on the job in your hand. If the tap connector is already on the spout and you want to change a spray gun without a soaking, the top pick is the Hozelock 2185 AquaStop. If the spout is still bare, that pick is the wrong object. The [hose connector comparison](/hub/garden-watering/hose-connector) holds all nine amazon.co.uk rows. Our top picks

The pick, and the job it actually does

The top pick is the Hozelock 2185 AquaStop, about £5.00 on amazon.co.uk, with 4.6 from 3,881 reviews. It is a plastic water stop for 12.5 mm and 15 mm hose. Hozelock places the valve at the gun end, so the connector shuts when you unclip the spray gun. It does not include a tap connector. If the outside tap is bare, the 2185 never meets the spout. It has no pressure figure we can quote. Hozelock's AquaStop Plus is a different model that states 10 bar, and copying that line onto the 2185 would be false. Sizes and thread names are on the garden hose connector buying guide.

When the starter set or the tap kit is the better buy

Buy the Hozelock 2352, about £13.97 with 4.6 from 11,105 reviews, when the tap and the hose are both bare and you will accept a basic nozzle. Reviewers still call that nozzle basic, and one describes a nozzle that split after frost. Buy the Hozelock 2071, about £7.95, when only the spout is bare. Our comparison marks it as the best value. The listing prints BSP and 21–26.5 mm, in Delrin, with no water stop. It is the wrong kit for a soaking at the gun. If you need two outlets, neither box is the object.

Why a higher star on 20 reviews is not the pick

The CAKKVDE kit shows 4.8 from 20 reviews, at about £9.99, and only five are marked as UK reviews. That is not better evidence than 4.6 from 3,881 reviews on the 2185. Chudian, about £9.49, sits at 4.0 from 1,262 reviews, and the text is heavy with leaks. One reviewer says the yellow pieces are not Hozelock. BABADU, about £18.99, prints NPT. One reviewer said the parts worked with their Hozelock fittings. A single success does not overturn the thread line. That claim is on Hozelock or a universal hose connector.

What best does not mean here

Best, here, means the fitting that shuts the hose at the gun for the price and the review volume in this set. It does not mean a printed pressure or a part that will survive a frost full of water. Take the 2185 when the spout is already fitted and the soak is the problem. Take the 2071 when the spout is bare. Take the 2352 when both ends are empty and a basic nozzle is acceptable for now.

Common questions

Which listing is the top pick, and for whom?
The top pick is the Hozelock 2185 AquaStop, about £5.00, rated 4.6 from 3,881 amazon.co.uk reviews. Choose it if a tap connector is already on the outside tap and you want to unclip a spray gun without soaking your shoes. Skip it if the tap is bare, if you need two hoses, or if you wanted the Plus model's 10 bar claim.
When is the 2352 the better buy?
When you own neither a tap connector nor a hose end, and you will live with a basic nozzle. The Hozelock 2352 is about £13.97, with 4.6 from 11,105 reviews, in a four-piece set. Reviewers call that nozzle basic, and one describes a frost-split nozzle. If you already like your gun, you may not need the nozzle.
When is the £7.95 tap kit enough?
When the hose clicks properly and only the outside tap needs a connector. The Hozelock 2071 is our best value at about £7.95. It prints BSP and 21–26.5 mm, in a Delrin body, with no water stop. It is not enough if you still get soaked when you change the gun, because that valve was never in the box.
Why is 4.8 from 20 reviews not the winner?
Because the sample is small. CAKKVDE's 4.8 comes from 20 reviews, five of them marked as UK reviews, on a kit at about £9.99. The 2185 has 3,881 reviews at 4.6, and the 2352 has 11,105 at the same star. A higher average on twenty reviews does not identify a better water stop.
Where on the hose does the AquaStop sit?
At the gun end, where you unclip the spray gun. The feeder hose, the length on the tap or the reel, takes an ordinary hose-end connector. Hozelock's FAQ gives an AquaStop on that feeder hose as a cause of the fitting popping off. The 2185 does not replace the tap connector.
Does the top pick include the tap connector?
No. The 2185 is the water stop alone. You still need a tap connector on the outside tap and a hose-end connector on the supply hose. If those parts are missing, the 2071 or the 2352 matches the gap more closely. Anyone who needs two hoses, each with a shut-off, should look at the Tesmotor splitter. Its reviews include leaks at the top joint.
