Chimney hood comparison 2026

The best chimney hoods, compared.

Top pick: AEG DKB5660HM 60 cm Best value: FIREGAS FGS-EBV40Z460CC – Highest value score at about £75.67, with a UK plug, carbon filters and one airflow figure of 332 m³/h. Updated 22.10.2026.

Peter F.
Peter F.Editor

A chimney hood is a wall-mounted kitchen cooker hood with a canopy and a decorative chimney. It is not a fireplace canopy and it is not a stove part. You use it over a hob to pull grease and steam away, either through a duct to outside or back into the room through a carbon filter. If you were choosing a fire rather than a hob extract, start with the [electric fireplace comparison](/hub/fireplaces-and-stoves/electric-fireplace). A pyramid chimney has a tapered canopy, often in stainless steel or black, with three speeds. An angled chimney has a sloping glass front and more headroom, and it is still a wall chimney with extensions. Island, downdraft, visor and cabinet-integrated hoods are different products and are not in this set. Ducted mode sends air outside and removes moisture. Approved Document F, 1 (2021) is the England text in force. Table 1.1 asks for 30 litres per second (108 m³/h) when the hood extracts outside, and 60 litres per second when it does not. A recirculating hood alone does not satisfy Part F. The 2026 edition applies, or 24 for higher-risk building work, not on the date of these prices.

A chimney hood is a wall-mounted kitchen cooker hood with a canopy and a decorative chimney. It is not a fireplace canopy and it is not a stove part.

The best chimney hoods in detail

AEG DKB5660HM 60 cm

Rank 1

AEG DKB5660HM 60 cm

∼£272

Our view

The AEG DKB5660HM is a 60 cm pyramid at £272, with 5.0 from only three amazon.co.uk reviews. Those reviews describe strong extraction for heavy smoke, a fit a competent DIYer managed, and normal use that was not over-noisy, with noise on full intensive speed. The listing states 779 m³/h on intensive and 175–352 m³/h in normal operation, 38–55 dB, touch control, Hob2Hood, Breeze and a washable baffle filter, at 15.1 kg, made in Poland, with a two-year warranty and seven years of spare parts. A reviewer had to buy the 150 mm exhaust pipe separately and preferred rigid duct to cut noise. Ventilation is listed as exhaust, so recirculation is not confirmed, and a UK plug is not stated. Five stars on three reviews sit beside much larger CIARRA and COMFEE' samples. It is the Hob2Hood row when your hob can drive it and you have budgeted for the pipe.

Pros

  • Hob2Hood, Breeze and touch control stated
  • 779 m³/h intensive, with a normal band of 175–352 m³/h also printed
  • Washable baffle filter, 15.1 kg, made in Poland
  • Two-year warranty and seven years of spare parts

Cons

  • 5.0 from only three reviews
  • A reviewer had to buy the 150 mm pipe separately
  • Noisy on full intensive speed, in that small sample
  • Recirculation and a UK plug are not confirmed, at £272

Best for: A 60 cm ducted install with a Hob2Hood hob, when you will buy rigid 150 mm duct and can accept three reviews.

Less suitable: A recirculating flat, or a buyer who treats five stars from three reviews as a larger sample.

Common questions

Does this AEG hood include a UK plug?

The listing does not say a UK plug is included. It does list a ducting kit.

Can it recirculate?

The ventilation field says Exhaust. Recirculation is not confirmed in the specification.

How many speeds does it have?

Three speed settings, plus an intensive mode and a Breeze function.

CIARRA CBCB6201 60 cm black

Rank 2

CIARRA CBCB6201 60 cm black

∼£76

Our view

The CIARRA CBCB6201 is the black 60 cm version at £75.99, also showing 4.4 from 12,710 reviews. The captured praise matches the silver CBCS6201 word for word: stronger than a previous hood, a working LED, quieter than the old unit, and still audible in an open-plan kitchen diner. Treat that overlap as one review file pasted onto two finishes. The listing states the same 404 m³/h title and 370 m³/h specification, 60 dB, class A++, 40 W, CBCF002X2 filters, a 1.5 m pipe and a UK plug. Controls are printed as a knob in one field and a push button in the highlight. The dimension height is 75 cm, against 57.2 cm on the silver sibling, so the chimney stack is a different line even when the review text is the same. It is the black finish of that high-volume listing, £4 less than the silver, with the same shared evidence.

Pros

  • £75.99 with carbon filters, a 1.5 m duct and a UK plug
  • 4.4 from 12,710 reviews, shared with the silver CBCS6201
  • Review text describes stronger extraction than a previous hood
  • Matte black finish, class A++, 40 W

Cons

  • The two full reviews are the same text as on CBCS6201
  • 404 m³/h in the title and 370 m³/h in the specification
  • Knob in one field and push button in the highlight
  • Described as audible in an open-plan kitchen diner

Best for: A black 60 cm hood when you want the CBCS6201 box contents and you have checked the 75 cm height.

Less suitable: A buyer who will add this review count to the silver ASIN, or who needs one control type on the label.

Common questions

Is this the same review count as the silver CBCS6201?

The listing shows 4.4 from 12,710 reviews, and the two full review texts match the silver ASIN. Do not add the counts together.

Are the carbon filters included?

Yes. The box list includes a CBCF002X2 pair, grease filters, a 1.5 m pipe and a UK plug.

Which control type is printed?

The controls field says knob. The item highlight says push button.

CIARRA CBCS6201 60 cm

Rank 3

CIARRA CBCS6201 60 cm

∼£80

Our view

The CIARRA CBCS6201 is a silver 60 cm pyramid at £79.99, with 4.4 from 12,710 amazon.co.uk reviews, and that listing ranks it number 1 in Wall-Mount Vent Hoods. Reviewers say it cleared smoke well enough that a kitchen alarm stopped tripping, that the LED works, and that it was quieter than the hood it replaced, though one calls it slightly loud in an open-plan kitchen diner. The title prints 404 m³/h and the specification prints 370 m³/h, both beside a stated 60 dB, with three push-button speeds, class A++ and 40 W. The box includes CBCF002X2 carbon filters, grease filters, a 1.5 m duct and a UK plug. An item-width field says 425 mm, which disagrees with the 60 cm title and the 43.2 x 60 x 57.2 cm dimensions. The same two review texts also appear on the black CBCB6201, so those 12,710 ratings are one shared file.

Pros

  • 4.4 from 12,710 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • CBCF002X2 carbon filters, 1.5 m duct and a UK plug in the box
  • Reviewers report a smoke alarm that stopped tripping
  • Class A++ and 40 W on the listing

Cons

  • Title says 404 m³/h and the specification says 370 m³/h
  • Item width 425 mm clashes with the 60 cm title
  • Called slightly loud in an open-plan kitchen diner
  • The two full review texts are shared with CBCB6201

Best for: A 60 cm hob when you want carbon filters and a UK plug in the box, and you can live with two airflow figures.

Less suitable: Anyone who needs a single airflow number, or who will treat the 12,710 reviews as separate from the black finish.

Common questions

Are carbon filters in the box?

Yes. The listing includes a pair of CBCF002X2 carbon filters, two aluminium grease filters, a 1.5 m exhaust pipe and a UK plug.

Which airflow figure should you use?

The title says 404 m³/h and the specification line says 370 m³/h. Both are on the listing.

Is it wall mounted?

Yes. Mounting type is wall mount, with chimney extensions of 40 cm plus 40 cm.

COMFEE' KWH-PYRA17B-60

Rank 4

COMFEE' KWH-PYRA17B-60

∼£50

Our view

The COMFEE' KWH-PYRA17B-60 is a black 60 cm wall chimney hood listed at £49.99, the lowest price in this set, with 4.4 from 609 amazon.co.uk reviews. Reviewers say it pulled harder than an eight-year-old extractor, that steam stayed out of the kitchen on the settings they used, and that it was quieter than that old hood and straightforward to fit. The listing states 400 m³/h and 67 dB, three speeds, LED lighting, 230 V and UKCA, at 5.3 kg. Recirculation needs a separate carbon filter under search code B098XFSKXH, so the shelf price grows if you cannot duct outside. One reviewer needed three hands to seat the vent in the recess. The controls field says push button while the control-method field says touch. It is the top pick here because the review file names a steam result and the price is the lowest, with a loud printed 67 dB and no confirmed UK plug.

Pros

  • £49.99 with 4.4 from 609 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • Reviewers report less steam than with an eight-year-old extractor
  • Listing states 400 m³/h, 230 V and UKCA
  • 5.3 kg, three speeds and LED lighting

Cons

  • 67 dB is a loud printed figure for an open-plan room
  • Carbon filter B098XFSKXH is a separate purchase
  • One reviewer needed three hands to seat the vent
  • Push button and touch are both printed as the control

Best for: A 60 cm hob you can duct outside, when £49.99 and a 609-review file matter more than a carbon filter in the box.

Less suitable: An open-plan kitchen where 67 dB is already too much on paper, or a flat that must recirculate without buying B098XFSKXH.

Common questions

Does the black COMFEE' include a carbon filter?

No. The listing tells you to buy a carbon filter separately and gives the search code B098XFSKXH.

Why do the control labels disagree?

Controls type says push button and control method says touch. The bullets describe push buttons.

What did reviewers say about fitting the vent?

One reviewer said the vent was awkward to seat in the recess and needed three hands.

COMFEE' KWH-ANGJ64B-60

Rank 5

COMFEE' KWH-ANGJ64B-60

∼£70

Our view

The COMFEE' KWH-ANGJ64B-60 is a black 60 cm angled hood at £69.99, with 4.4 from 469 reviews. The listing states 400 m³/h and 64 dB, touch control, LED, UKCA and 11.2 kg. A reviewer calls it strong and good-looking once the filters clicked, and also a bit noisy. Charcoal filters are not in the box, and the listing points to search code B098XFHFY3. That reviewer needed days to seat them, nearly returned the hood, and said a 03-type filter eventually clicked. The item-form field says pyramid while the title says angled. The item line is 40.3 x 59.7 x 37.3 cm and a bullet says 597 × 373 × 403 mm. It is the angled COMFEE' when you will duct and you will order the carbon filter only for recirculation, after reading which code actually seats.

Pros

  • 400 m³/h and 64 dB with touch control
  • 4.4 from 469 reviews
  • UKCA on the listing
  • A reviewer was happy once the correct charcoal filter clicked

Cons

  • Carbon filter B098XFHFY3 is separate, and one buyer took days to seat a 03-type filter
  • Called a bit noisy
  • Item form says pyramid and the title says angled
  • A UK plug is not stated

Best for: A black 60 cm angled hood you will duct, at £69.99, if you can source the charcoal filter before you need recirculation.

Less suitable: A first weekend of recirculation, or anyone who expects the filter to drop in without a code check.

COMFEE' KWH-PYRA17SS-60

Rank 6

COMFEE' KWH-PYRA17SS-60

∼£70

Our view

The COMFEE' KWH-PYRA17SS-60 is a stainless 60 cm pyramid at £69.99, with 4.4 from 396 reviews. Reviewers say suction clears smells and steam quickly, that it is not overly noisy, and that the LED is bright and the install was easy. One buyer described it as a cheap hood to live with until a remodel, which is a plan for a short stay and not a failed part. The listing states 400 m³/h, 67 dB, three push-button speeds, 230 V, UKCA, 65 W and 5.3 kg. Recirculation needs a separate CF04 carbon filter. The ventilation table says exhaust while the description says duct-out or recirculation. It is the brushed-steel sibling of the £49.99 black COMFEE' when you want that finish and a written comment about steam, with the same 67 dB figure and no stated UK plug.

Pros

  • Reviewers say steam and smells clear quickly
  • 400 m³/h, 230 V and UKCA on the listing
  • £69.99 with 4.4 from 396 reviews
  • Brushed stainless finish at 5.3 kg

Cons

  • 67 dB on the listing
  • CF04 carbon filter is a separate purchase
  • Exhaust in the table and duct-out or recirculation in the description
  • A UK plug is not stated

Best for: A 60 cm stainless pyramid you will duct, when you want steam mentioned in the reviews and can accept 67 dB.

Less suitable: Recirculation without CF04, or an open-plan room that needs a lower printed noise figure.

The listing says 67 dB.

CIARRA CAS6201A 60 cm

Rank 7

CIARRA CAS6201A 60 cm

∼£80

Our view

The CIARRA CAS6201A is a silver 60 cm pyramid at £79.99, with 4.3 from 1,605 reviews. The captured review calls the ventilation powerful, the light bright and the install easy, and it says the grease filters need cleaning fairly regularly. That same text is on the 90 cm CAS9201A, so it does not describe this width on its own. The listing agrees with itself on 370 m³/h and 62 dB, three push-button speeds, class A, 70 W and a telescopic chimney of 573–940 mm, with a 1.5 m duct in the box. CBCF002X2 carbon filters are separate. The model field says CAS6201A and the manufacturer part number says CBCS6201, which is the code of the other silver 60 cm hood in this set. Choose it when you will duct a 60 cm hob and you will read the carton code before you assume it is the CBCS6201.

Pros

  • 370 m³/h and 62 dB with no second airflow figure
  • 1.5 m duct included and a 573–940 mm chimney
  • 4.3 from 1,605 reviews
  • Class A and 70 W on the listing

Cons

  • CBCF002X2 carbon filters are a separate purchase
  • The captured review text is the same as on the 90 cm CAS9201A
  • Manufacturer part number says CBCS6201
  • Grease filters need cleaning fairly regularly, in that shared review

Best for: A 60 cm ducted pyramid at £79.99 when one airflow figure matters more than carbon filters in the box.

Less suitable: Recirculation without an extra CBCF002X2, or anyone matching the part number to CBCS6201.

Common questions

Why are there two model codes?

The model field says CAS6201A and the manufacturer part number field says CBCS6201.

CIARRA CAS9201A 90 cm

Rank 8

CIARRA CAS9201A 90 cm

∼£112

Our view

The CIARRA CAS9201A is the 90 cm pyramid at £111.99, with 4.3 from 1,605 reviews. The title and the dimensions say 90 cm, at 43.2 x 90 x 57.2 cm and 8.3 kg, while an item-type line says 60 cm, so the width needs a check on the live page before you measure the wall units. The specification is 370 m³/h and 62 dB, three speeds, class A, 70 W, a 1.5 m duct and a telescopic chimney from 573 to 940 mm. Carbon filters CBCF002X2 are extra. The written review, shared with the 60 cm CAS6201A, praises power, light and an easy fit, and the only complaint is regular grease-filter cleaning. A 90 cm hood at 370 m³/h can sit below a 60 cm hood whose title says 400 m³/h. It is the lower-priced 90 cm row when the hob is 90 cm and you will buy the carbon filter only if you recirculate.

Pros

  • 90 cm in the title and in the 43.2 x 90 x 57.2 cm dimensions
  • 1.5 m duct and a telescopic chimney of 573–940 mm
  • 4.3 from 1,605 reviews
  • £111.99 against £195.48 for the other 90 cm hood

Cons

  • An item-type line says 60 cm
  • 370 m³/h is modest for the wider canopy
  • CBCF002X2 is sold separately
  • The review text is shared with CAS6201A

Best for: A 90 cm hob you can duct, when £111.99 matters more than the 650–709 m³/h title on CBCS9102.

Less suitable: A 60 cm gap between units, or a recirculating flat that will not buy CBCF002X2.

Common questions

Is this the 90 cm hood?

The title and the dimension line say 90 cm. A separate item-type line says 60 cm. Treat the width as a listing conflict.

Does recirculation need an extra filter?

Yes. CBCF002X2 carbon filters are described as available separately. A 1.5 m duct is included.

How loud is the listed figure?

The specification says 62 dB.

CIARRA CBCS6765C 60 cm angled

Rank 9

CIARRA CBCS6765C 60 cm angled

∼£150

Our view

The CIARRA CBCS6765C is a 60 cm angled hood at £149.99, with 4.3 from 752 reviews. The title says black and 590 m³/h, a bullet says 580 m³/h, and the specification says 580 cubic feet per minute, which is a different unit. Noise is printed as 63 dB, 65 dB and 60 dB in different places. The box includes CBCF055 carbon filters, one aluminium grease filter, a 1.5 m 150 mm pipe and a UK plug, with class A+ and a brushless-motor claim. Reviewers say it was easy to install and looks sleek, and one says customer service solved a problem quickly. Another review, dated October 2025, says a light failed, a replacement was not listed, the lamp instructions were wrong, and the glass top had to come off. The colour field says white. It is an angled glass option when the box contents matter and you have noticed the unit clash.

Pros

  • CBCF055 carbon filters, a 150 mm pipe and a UK plug included
  • 4.3 from 752 reviews
  • Reviewers call the fit easy
  • Class A+ and touch control on the listing

Cons

  • 590 m³/h, 580 m³/h and 580 cubic feet per minute are all printed
  • Noise appears as 60 dB, 63 dB and 65 dB
  • A lamp failed and the spare was not listed, in an October 2025 review
  • Title says black and the colour field says white

Best for: A 60 cm angled hood when carbon filters and a UK plug must be in the box and you can check the colour on the photo.

Less suitable: Anyone who needs one airflow unit, or a lamp you can replace without removing the glass.

Common questions

Which airflow unit is on the specification line?

The air-flow capacity field says 580 cubic feet per minute. The title says 590 m³/h and a bullet says 580 m³/h.

Are carbon filters included?

Yes. CBCF055 is included, with a 1.5 m, 150 mm exhaust pipe and a UK plug.

What failed in a review?

A reviewer in October 2025 said a light had stopped and a replacement was not listed, and that the lamp instructions were wrong.

CIARRA CBCS9102 90 cm

Rank 10

CIARRA CBCS9102 90 cm

∼£195

Our view

The CIARRA CBCS9102 is a 90 cm chimney hood at £195.48, with 4.2 from 1,616 reviews. The title says 709 m³/h and the specification says 650 m³/h, at a stated 56 dB, with touch controls and a Wi-Fi app claim. Reviewers describe very good, quiet fan power after a level wall fit, and one says customer service sent replacement grease filters within 48 hours after tabs on two filters arrived broken. Touch controls need a firm press, and a review title says the lights are very poor, though that review body is not in the file. CBCF003 carbon filters are included, a bullet claims A+++ while the specifications say A++, and a UK plug is not stated. A 1.5 m pipe is in the bullets, while the included-components field only says cooker hood. It is the high printed-airflow 90 cm option when those two cubic-metre figures are what you are comparing, and a weak pick if the filters must arrive intact.

Pros

  • Highest printed airflow in the set: 709 m³/h title, 650 m³/h specification
  • CBCF003 carbon filters included
  • 56 dB stated, with touch and a Wi-Fi app claim
  • 4.2 from 1,616 reviews, and filters were replaced within 48 hours in one review

Cons

  • Tabs on two grease filters arrived broken in one review
  • A+++ in a bullet and A++ in the specifications
  • Touch controls need a firm press
  • UK plug not stated, and the included-components field only says cooker hood

Best for: A 90 cm hob when the 650–709 m³/h listing figures and included CBCF003 filters are the priority at £195.48.

Less suitable: A buyer who needs a confirmed UK plug, or who cannot wait on replacement grease filters.

Common questions

Does the Wi-Fi claim replace a duct?

No. The listing still offers external ducting with a 1.5 m pipe or recirculation with CBCF003 filters, which are included.

Why are there two airflow numbers?

The title says 709 m³/h and the air-flow capacity line says 650 m³/h.

What arrived damaged in a review?

One reviewer said tabs on two grease filters were broken on delivery, and Ciarra sent replacements.

FIREGAS FGS-EBV40Z460CC

∼£76

Our view

The FIREGAS FGS-EBV40Z460CC is a black 60 cm angled chimney hood at £75.67, with 4.1 from 345 amazon.co.uk reviews. The listing states 332 m³/h and 47 dB, three touch speeds, a brushless motor, class A++, a timer and 108 W. The box list includes a UK plug, a carbon-filter pair, a 1.5 m exhaust pipe and chimney extensions of 40 cm plus 40 cm. That box is fuller than the COMFEE' pyramids that sell the carbon filter separately. The only full review praises the build, the look and simple controls, and it does not describe a cooking result or a fault. A second captured review has a date and no body. The warranty is one year on parts, shorter than the two-year lines on the CIARRA and COMFEE' rows. It is the best value here because the plug, filters and single airflow figure are all on the listing at this price, while 47 dB remains a printed number and 332 m³/h is the lowest stated rate in the set.

Pros

  • UK plug, carbon filters and a 1.5 m pipe listed in the box
  • 332 m³/h and 47 dB printed as one pair of figures
  • Touch control, timer and class A++ on the listing
  • £75.67 with 4.1 from 345 reviews

Cons

  • 332 m³/h is the lowest stated airflow in this set
  • The full review does not describe extraction or a fault
  • One-year parts warranty
  • 108 W is high next to the 40 W CIARRA pyramids

Best for: A 60 cm angled hood when you want a UK plug, carbon filters and a 1.5 m pipe in the box at £75.67.

Less suitable: A cook who needs a review that describes steam or smoke, or a hob wider than 60 cm.

Common questions

What airflow and noise does the listing state?

332 m³/h and 47 dB, with three touch speeds.

Is a UK plug included?

Yes. The included-components line lists a UK standard plug, a carbon-filter pair and a 1.5 m exhaust pipe.

Do the captured reviews describe a fault?

The full review is generic praise and names no fault. A second review has no body text.

COMFEE' KWH-CH60A17EM12S2-UK

Rank 12

COMFEE' KWH-CH60A17EM12S2-UK

∼£70

Our view

The COMFEE' KWH-CH60A17EM12S2-UK is a 60 cm stainless pyramid at £69.99, with class A++ on the listing, 400 m³/h and 67 dB. It includes two packs of CF04 carbon filters, which the older COMFEE' pyramids in this set do not. amazon.co.uk shows 3.0 from two reviews, and they disagree. One says higher speeds were quiet, the LEDs were bright, the filters go in the dishwasher and the fit took about an hour with the template. The other says suction is poor, the hood is very noisy, and the pictures look generated. The controls field says push button and the control method says touch. A UK plug is not stated. Two opposing reviews are too few to treat either account as a pattern, and too few to treat this as the A++ step up from the £49.99 black COMFEE' with 609 reviews.

Pros

  • Two packs of CF04 carbon filters included
  • Class A++ , 400 m³/h and ducted or recirculating on the listing
  • One reviewer fitted it in about an hour with the template
  • £69.99 for a stainless 60 cm pyramid

Cons

  • 3.0 from only two reviews
  • Those two reviews contradict each other on suction and noise
  • 67 dB on the listing
  • Push button and touch are both printed

Best for: A 60 cm hood only if you specifically want CF04 packs in the box and you will judge it after delivery.

Less suitable: Anyone choosing on star rating, or comparing it with the 609-review black COMFEE' at £49.99.

Common questions

Are carbon filters included?

Yes. The listing says two packs of CF04 carbon filters are included.

Why is the star score hard to use?

There are two reviews. One says suction is poor and the hood is very noisy. The other says it was quiet on higher speeds and easy to fit.

Can it be ducted?

Yes. Ventilation is listed as both duct-out and recirculation.

How we compared

Twelve amazon.co.uk chimney hood listings were scored on a 0–100 scale. Stars are 35 points, from the amazon.co.uk rating divided by 5. Sample size is 20 points, from the review count. Use in the file is 30 points, from the review notes: a named cooking or steam result scores higher, and a named functional fault is subtracted. Value in this set is 15 points, from the shelf price plus whether an airflow figure, a carbon filter, a UK plug, a noise figure, a width and a duct mode are printed, with deductions for a thin sample, a functional fault or a conflicting listing field. The highest score is the top pick. The highest value part among the others is the best value. This is not a lab test. A cubic-metre figure is the figure the listing prints. A decibel figure is the seller's line, not a measurement in your kitchen. Prices are the amazon.co.uk shelf prices on 19 October 2026.

1

Stars

35%

The amazon.co.uk rating divided by 5, times 35. A 4.4 becomes 31 points. A 5.0 from three reviews still scores the full star points, and the sample line then limits how far that row can rise.

2

Sample size

20%

500 or more ratings score 20. 200 to 499 score 16. 100 to 199 score 12. 20 to 99 score 6. Under 20 scores 2. A star line from two or three reviews does not outweigh a file of several hundred.

3

Use in the file

30%

Review notes that name steam, smoke, smells or a quieter fit than the old hood score higher. A functional fault, such as a missing pipe, a failed lamp or carbon filters that would not seat, is subtracted. Regular grease-filter cleaning is not that subtraction.

4

Value in this set

15%

A lower shelf price scores more, then one point or two for a printed airflow, a named carbon filter, a UK plug, a noise figure, a consistent width and a named duct mode. Conflicting listing fields and a rating under 4.0 or a count under 20 are deducted. The cap is 15.

Chimney hood buying guide

Match the width to the hob first, then decide ducted or recirculating, then read the airflow line you will actually use. A carbon filter and a BS 1363 plug are box contents, not assumptions. A large review count outweighs five stars from two or three ratings, and two listings that share the same review text are one file. A chimney hood does not replace Part F ventilation on its own, and it is not a fireplace or stove part.

What is a chimney hood?

A chimney hood in this comparison is a wall-mounted kitchen cooker hood with a canopy and a decorative chimney. You fit it over a hob to pull grease and steam away. It is not a fireplace canopy and it is not a stove part. Two shapes are in the twelve listings. A pyramid chimney has a tapered canopy, often in stainless steel or black, with three speeds. An angled chimney has a sloping glass front and more headroom, and it is still a wall chimney with extensions.

Best for

  • Replacing a weak 60 cm pyramid when you can duct outside
  • A 90 cm hob, after you check the manual height and the duct contents

Not ideal for

  • A flat that will rely on recirculation alone for Part F
  • Anyone treating these hoods as a fireplace canopy or a stove part

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

    The larger title airflow

Several listings print two cubic-metre figures. The CIARRA CBCS6201 title says 404 m³/h and the specification says 370 m³/h. Read both lines, and do not mix m³/h with cubic feet per minute.

  2. 2

    Recirculation without the carbon filter

Some COMFEE' models and the CIARRA CAS hoods sell the carbon filter separately. A recirculating hood without that filter returns grease to the room, and it still does not satisfy Part F on its own.

  3. 3

    60 cm over a 90 cm hob

Approved Document F says a hood that extracts outside should span at least the full width of the cooker. A 60 cm canopy leaves the outer burners of a 90 cm hob uncovered.

What to weigh up

Width against the hob

High

Approved Document F Diagram 1.1 says a hood that extracts outside should span at least the full width of the cooker. In this set the 60 cm rows are the COMFEE' pyramids, the CIARRA 60 cm pyramids, the angled CIARRA and FIREGAS hoods, and the AEG. The 90 cm rows are the CIARRA CAS9201A at about £111.99 and the CIARRA CBCS9102 at about £195.48. The CAS9201A title and dimensions say 90 cm, and an item-type line says 60 cm, so check the live page before you measure the wall units.

Ducted or recirculating

High

Ducted mode removes moisture to outside. Recirculation needs a carbon filter and returns steam. In England, Approved Document F asks for 30 litres per second (108 m³/h) when the hood extracts outside and 60 litres per second when it does not. A recirculating hood alone does not satisfy Part F, so a flat with no outside wall still needs a separate extract. The FIREGAS and several CIARRA boxes list carbon filters.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Replacing a 60 cm pyramid

You can duct outside and you are replacing a weak 60 cm hood. The black COMFEE' KWH-PYRA17B-60 is the top pick at about £49.99, with 400 m³/h stated and 4.4 from 609 reviews. Reviewers describe less steam than an older extractor. The carbon filter is extra, and 67 dB is a loud printed figure.

Flat with no outside wall

You cannot duct outside, so the box needs a carbon filter, and you still need a separate extract for Part F. The FIREGAS FGS-EBV40Z460CC is the best value at about £75.67, with a UK plug, carbon filters and a 1.5 m pipe listed. The full review does not describe steam or smoke, and 332 m³/h is the lowest stated rate here.

90 cm hob or Hob2Hood

The hob is 90 cm, or you want touch, boost or Hob2Hood. The CIARRA CAS9201A is the lower-priced 90 cm row at about £111.99 and 370 m³/h, with carbon filters extra. The AEG DKB5660HM states Hob2Hood and 779 m³/h on intensive, at about £272, from three reviews, and a reviewer bought the 150 mm pipe separately.

Common questions about chimney hoods

Which chimney hood is the top pick in 2026?
The top pick is the black COMFEE' KWH-PYRA17B-60 at about £49.99. It is a 60 cm pyramid with 400 m³/h and 67 dB stated, and 4.4 from 609 amazon.co.uk reviews. Reviewers describe less steam than an eight-year-old extractor. The carbon filter is sold separately, and the listing prints both push button and touch. This is not a lab test, and 67 dB is the seller's figure.
How much does a chimney hood cost?
These twelve amazon.co.uk listings run from about £49.99 to about £272. Entry 60 cm pyramids sit around £50 to £70. Mid listings sit around £70 to £120, including the FIREGAS angled hood at about £75.67 and the CIARRA CAS9201A at about £111.99. The CIARRA angled hood is about £149.99 and the Wi-Fi 90 cm hood is about £195.48. The AEG DKB5660HM is about £272. Prices move, and a different AEG hood at £699.99 is not in this set.
Should I duct a chimney hood or recirculate?
Ducted mode sends moisture outside. Recirculation needs a carbon filter and returns steam to the room. In England, Approved Document F Volume 1 (2021) asks for 30 litres per second, 108 m³/h, when the hood extracts outside, and 60 litres per second when it does not. A recirculating hood alone does not satisfy Part F. Height follows the manual, or 650 to 750 mm if none is given and the hood ducts outside. Gas work is for a Gas Safe engineer.
How wide should a chimney hood be?
Approved Document F Diagram 1.1 says a hood that extracts outside should span at least the full width of the cooker. A 60 cm hood over a 90 cm hob leaves the outer burners uncovered. In this set the 90 cm rows are the CIARRA CAS9201A at about £111.99 and the CIARRA CBCS9102 at about £195.48. The CAS9201A title says 90 cm and an item-type line says 60 cm, so check the live page before you measure the wall units.
Which airflow figure should I trust?
Read the specification line and the title, and do not mix cubic metres per hour with cubic feet per minute. The CIARRA CBCS6201 title says 404 m³/h and the specification says 370 m³/h. The CIARRA CBCS6765C prints both m³/h and cubic feet per minute. The English minimum for intermittent outside extract is 30 litres per second, which is 108 m³/h. Ten or twelve air changes an hour is a publisher rule of thumb, not the regulation. A star rating does not prove the printed figure.
Can I duct a cooker hood into a stove flue?
No. Do not duct a cooker hood into a fuel-burning flue. If the home has a stove or an open fire, ask a professional before you add a large hood. Gas work is for a Gas Safe engineer under the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998. A new kitchen fused spur is generally notifiable in England and Wales. Fit a carbon monoxide alarm as in carbon monoxide alarms for a stove.
How noisy are these chimney hoods?
Boost is louder than the speed you will use. Listed figures in this set run from 47 dB on the FIREGAS FGS-EBV40Z460CC to 67 dB on several COMFEE' pyramids. The AEG DKB5660HM states 38 to 55 dB. The CIARRA CBCS6765C prints 60 dB, 63 dB and 65 dB in different places. A decibel figure is the seller's line, not a measurement in your kitchen. 47 dB does not mean a silent open-plan room.
Is a chimney hood a fireplace part?
No. Every product here is a wall-mounted kitchen cooker hood. It is not a fireplace canopy and it is not a stove part. Do not send cooker-hood exhaust into a stove flue. Class A++ on a listing is an energy label, not proof of stronger extraction. Wash the grease filters, and treat a printed cubic-metre figure as the listing's number, not a kitchen measurement.

Our verdict

The top pick is the COMFEE' KWH-PYRA17B-60 at about £49.99. It is a black 60 cm pyramid with 400 m³/h and 67 dB stated, 4.4 from 609 amazon.co.uk reviews, and reviewers who describe less steam than an eight-year-old extractor. The carbon filter is a separate purchase, the printed noise is high, and push button and touch are both on the listing. The best value is the FIREGAS FGS-EBV40Z460CC at about £75.67. It has the highest value part in the scoring: a UK plug, carbon filters, a 1.5 m pipe and a single airflow figure of 332 m³/h, with 4.1 from 345 reviews. That airflow is the lowest stated rate in the set, and the full review does not describe a cooking result. A recirculating hood alone does not meet Part F, and none of these products is a fireplace or stove part.
