60 cm or 90 cm cooker hood

Updated: 22 October 2026

You have a tape on the hob and a gap between two wall cupboards, and the basket is full of hoods that all say chimney. The choice of a 60 cm or 90 cm cooker hood is whether the canopy covers the pans. A higher airflow figure does not collect steam that rises past the end of a hood that is narrower than the cooker. The [chimney hood comparison](/hub/fireplaces-and-stoves/chimney-hood) lists the twelve amazon.co.uk models checked on 19 October 2026. Peter F. compared listing widths with Approved Document F and the retailer guides. We did not fog a kitchen. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Start with the hob, not the cupboard label

Measure the hob first. Approved Document F, Diagram 1.1, says an outside-extract hood should span at least the full width of the cooker. A 90 cm hob needs a 90 cm hood or wider. If the units leave 60 cm of wall, a 90 cm canopy will not pass between them. How to read the other numbers is on the chimney hood buying guide.

When 60 cm is the right hood

Choose 60 cm when the hob is 60 cm and the wall units will not accept more. This set’s 60 cm cluster is the AEG DKB5660HM, the CIARRA CBCS6201, CBCB6201, CAS6201A, and CBCS6765C, the COMFEE' KWH-PYRA17SS-60, KWH-PYRA17B-60, KWH-CH60A17EM12S2-UK, and KWH-ANGJ64B-60, and the FIREGAS. Refuse a 60 cm hood when the hob is 90 cm. The outside rings sit beyond the canopy. The CIARRA CBCS6201 is a 60 cm hood in the title, and an item-width field prints 425 mm. Use the 60 cm dimension. There is no 70 cm or 80 cm hood in this set. A 75 cm induction hob needs 90 cm from this basket, and only if the units allow it. Which 60 cm listing suits a duct or a flat is on best chimney cooker hood.

When you need 90 cm

You need 90 cm when the hob is 90 cm, or when the hob is wider than 60 cm and the gap will take the canopy. The two 90 cm hoods are the CIARRA CAS9201A and the CIARRA CBCS9102. The CAS9201A was £111.99 with 370 m³/h printed, and the carbon filters are separate. The CBCS9102 was £195.48, prints both 709 m³/h and 650 m³/h, includes the carbon filters, and claims Wi-Fi. The CAS9201A item-type line says 60 cm. The title says 90 cm. If the units leave only 60 cm and the hob is 90 cm, this set cannot do both jobs.

Width is not power

A 90 cm hood is not a more powerful hood. The CAS9201A’s 370 m³/h is level with the specification figure on the 60 cm CIARRA CBCS6201, which prints 404 m³/h in the title and 370 m³/h below it. The black COMFEE' KWH-PYRA17B-60 prints 400 m³/h at £49.99 and is 60 cm. The CBCS9102 is the 90 cm listing with the higher pair, 709 and 650, at £195.48. Part F’s extract rate does not rise because the hood is wider. In England the outside-extract figure stays 30 litres a second, 108 cubic metres an hour, at 60 cm or at 90 cm. What changes with width is Diagram 1.1: the hood has to span the cooker. Hanging it is on how to install a chimney cooker hood.

Common questions

Is 60 cm enough for a 60 cm hob?
Yes, when the hood really is 60 cm and you centre it on the hob. A matching pair spans the cooker. Choose 90 cm only if the cupboards allow it and steam escapes at the ends. Check It Fits notes that a hood sold as 60 cm is not always exactly 600 mm. Ignore the 425 mm item-width field on the CIARRA CBCS6201. The title width is 60 cm.
Should an induction hob have a wider hood?
It often helps, and it is not a legal step up. Induction vapour can spread, so Homebuilding suggests a 900 mm hood for a hob up to 750 mm. That is their guidance. Diagram 1.1 still requires the hood to span the cooker you have. If the induction hob is 60 cm and the units are tight, a 60 cm hood still meets the span. If the hob is 70 cm or 80 cm, this set has no width in between, so you step up to 90 cm.
What if the hob is 90 cm and the gap is only 60 cm?
A 90 cm chimney hood from this set will not fit in a 60 cm gap, and a 60 cm hood will not span a 90 cm hob. You change the cupboards, change the hob, or accept that this shape of hood is the wrong product for that wall. Do not buy the CBCS6201 or another 60 cm model and rely on a high m³/h figure. The fan cannot see the outside rings. Measure the gap with the doors and any end panels included, not just the tiled width.
Is a 90 cm hood always more powerful?
No. The CIARRA CAS9201A is 90 cm and prints 370 m³/h. The CIARRA CBCS6201 is 60 cm and prints 404 m³/h in the title and 370 m³/h in the specification. The COMFEE' KWH-PYRA17B-60 prints 400 m³/h at 60 cm. The CBCS9102 is the 90 cm model with the higher stated pair, 709 m³/h and 650 m³/h. Width and fan capacity are separate lines on the listing.
Which 90 cm models are in this comparison?
Two. The CIARRA CAS9201A was £111.99, with 370 m³/h and carbon filters sold separately. Its item-type line says 60 cm while the title says 90 cm, so confirm the dimension. The CIARRA CBCS9102 was £195.48, with 709 m³/h and 650 m³/h both printed, carbon filters included, and a Wi-Fi claim. Every other hood in this set is in the 60 cm group, including the AEG DKB5660HM and the FIREGAS.
