Deer fence comparison 2026

The best deer fences, compared.

Top pick: MEKKAPRO 2.1 m × 27.4 m 40 GSM deer net Best value: Feitore 2.1 m × 30 m deer net – Best value at about £14.59 for the longest roll and the only printed 1.9 cm mesh. Updated October 2026.

A deer fence has to be tall enough, and closed at the ground, that deer go round it. In a UK garden the visitors are often roe and muntjac, sometimes fallow, sika or red. The Royal Horticultural Society and the British Society describe a proper fence, not a slack light net. UK reviews found the claimed pegs and ties, and one note with muntjac and roe still calls the deer title misleading. None of these rolls includes posts, and none is a grant specification. Height, mesh and a pegged base matter more than a “40 GSM” title. The [deer fence buying guide](/hub/fencing-and-wire/deer-fence/sub/deer-fence-buying-guide) sets those before you choose a roll. Fallow, sika and red deer turn up in some areas. The Royal Horticultural Society puts a useful garden height at about 1.5 m for muntjac and about 1.8 m for other deer. Countryside grant uses the same split: 1.5 m for roe and muntjac, 1.8 m for fallow, red and sika.

A deer fence has to be tall enough, and closed at the ground, that deer go round it. In a UK garden the visitors are often roe and muntjac, sometimes fallow, sika or red.

The best deer fences in detail

MEKKAPRO 2.1 m × 27.4 m 40 GSM deer net

Rank 1

MEKKAPRO 2.1 m × 27.4 m 40 GSM deer net

∼£37

Our view

This MEKKAPRO listing is the longer title, 2.1 m by 27.4 m at 40 GSM, priced at £36.99. It shares the model number MP-DEERNET with the 19.8 m net and the same bullet claim of 10 ground pegs and 50 zip ties. The spec line prints 1.13 kg, the same weight as the shorter listing, and a dimension field of 5 cm by 1 cm that is not the net size in the title. The star line is 4.7 from 7 reviews. The extract holds four reviews, from Germany, France, Italy, and Spain, and none from the United Kingdom. They do not say whether deer were kept out, and they do not count the pegs or the ties. A review from France says the net arrived folded, not on a roll, which made tensioning harder, while a review from Spain says it was easy to put up and that the outdoor result was still unknown. Treat the deer claim on this page as untested in the review file.

Pros

  • Longest MEKKAPRO title in the set, 2.1 m by 27.4 m
  • Bullets claim 40 GSM plus 10 pegs and 50 zip ties
  • A Spain review says it matched the description and was easy to put up

Cons

  • No UK review text in the extract
  • Reviews do not say whether deer were kept out
  • Same 1.13 kg spec line as the 19.8 m listing
  • A France review says folded delivery made tensioning harder

Best for: You want the 27.4 m title at £36.99 and you can accept that this file does not show a UK deer result.

Less suitable: You need UK reviews that deer stayed out, or a stated hole size, before you spend £36.99.

Common questions

How does this differ from the 19.8 m MEKKAPRO net?

This listing is titled 2.1 m by 27.4 m at £36.99. The shorter MEKKAPRO listing is 2.1 m by 19.8 m at £29.99. Both use model MP-DEERNET, both say 40 GSM, and both claim 10 ground pegs and 50 zip ties. This page does not state a hole size.

Do the reviews confirm the pegs and the deer claim?

The extract has four reviews and a star line of 4.7 from 7. None are from the United Kingdom. They do not count the pegs or ties, and they do not say whether deer were kept out. A review from France says the net arrived folded, not on a roll, which made tensioning harder.

What weight and pack size does the listing print?

The spec line says 1.13 kg, the same weight printed on the 19.8 m listing. The dimension field says 5 cm by 1 cm, which is not the 2.1 m by 27.4 m size in the title. Treat the title as the net size and the centimetre line as the packed-size field.

Feitore 2.1 m × 30 m deer net

Rank 2

Feitore 2.1 m × 30 m deer net

∼£15

Our view

The Feitore listing is a black polypropylene net stated as 2.1 m by 30 m, with a mesh of 1.9 cm, at £14.59 and a stated weight of 789 g. Pegs, posts, and zip ties are not named on the listing. The amazon.co.uk line is 4.3 from 10,395 reviews, and the extract holds 50 reviews of which only two are marked United Kingdom, so that star line is not a UK deer sample. One of those UK reviews calls the net sheer but strong and says deer have stayed out on a second roll. The other says deer ripped it and that it would suit smaller animals. Other reviews say it sags unless you fix it to posts and a top line, and that birds and small animals can catch in the mesh. You get the longest roll in this set and the only printed hole size, and you still supply the posts.

Pros

  • Stated 2.1 m by 30 m at £14.59
  • Mesh printed as 1.9 cm
  • One UK review says deer stayed out on a second roll
  • Reviews describe cutting it around trees and raised beds

Cons

  • No pegs or posts named on the listing
  • One UK review says deer ripped it
  • Sags unless it is fixed to posts and a top line
  • Other reviews report birds and small animals caught in the mesh

Best for: You want the longest roll in this set, with a printed 1.9 cm mesh, and you will add your own posts for a small watched bed.

Less suitable: You need included pegs, or a UK review sample that agrees deer were kept out.

Common questions

What size and mesh does the listing state?

The listing says 7 feet by 100 feet, which it also writes as 2.1 m by 30 m, and a mesh of 3/4 inch (1.9 cm). It calls the net medium strength and does not state a GSM figure. The stated weight is 789 g.

Does the box include pegs or posts?

The listing describes one polypropylene net and does not name pegs, posts, or zip ties. Reviews say the net sags unless it is fixed to posts and a top line, and one reviewer who expected stakes says none came.

What do the UK reviews say about deer?

The extract holds two UK reviews against a star line of 4.3 from 10,395, which is not a UK-only sample. One says the net is sheer but strong and has kept deer out on a second roll. The other says deer ripped it and that it would suit smaller animals. Other reviews in the file describe birds and small animals caught in the mesh.

MEKKAPRO 2.1 m × 19.8 m 40 GSM deer net

Rank 3

MEKKAPRO 2.1 m × 19.8 m 40 GSM deer net

∼£30

Our view

The shorter MEKKAPRO listing is a black polypropylene net titled 2.1 m by 19.8 m at 40 GSM, priced at £29.99, with a stated weight of 1.13 kg. The bullets claim 10 ground pegs and 50 zip ties, and UK reviews found those in the pack, though several say that count is short if you fix the whole 19.8 m closely. The listing does not print a hole size. UK reviews measure the holes at about 20 mm to 22 mm, which is a reviewer measurement rather than a specification. The star line is 4.2 from 39, and 12 of the 36 reviews in the extract are from the United Kingdom. One UK review says deer stayed out after the net was stretched. Another, on a plot with muntjac and roe, calls the deer-net title misleading and says the net and the supplied fixings do not look strong enough. It arrives folded rather than on a roll, so you flatten the creases before it will tension, and it will not stand without posts.

Pros

  • UK reviews confirm 10 pegs and 50 zip ties in the pack
  • Title states 40 GSM on a 2.1 m by 19.8 m net
  • 12 of 36 extracted reviews are from the United Kingdom
  • Reviewers say it is hard to tear by hand once it is pulled tight

Cons

  • Hole size is not printed on the listing
  • One UK review with muntjac and roe calls the deer title misleading
  • Arrives folded, not on a roll
  • 10 pegs and 50 ties are called too few for a close fix along 19.8 m

Best for: You want the roll in this set with the largest UK review file, and pegs and ties already in the box, for a fruit-cage side or a raised bed you can watch.

Less suitable: You need a printed hole size, or a fence that a UK reviewer with muntjac and roe was willing to trust.

Common questions

What comes in the box?

The bullets say the 2.1 m by 19.8 m net includes 10 ground pegs and 50 zip ties. UK reviews found pegs and ties in the pack. Several say that count is short if you fix the whole length closely. Posts are not included.

What hole size does the listing give?

The listing does not state a mesh size. UK reviews measure the holes at about 20 mm to 22 mm, or about 3/4 inch. Those are reviewer measurements, not a printed specification. The title states 40 GSM.

What do UK reviews say about deer and delivery?

Twelve of the 36 reviews in the extract are from the United Kingdom, under a star line of 4.2 from 39. One says deer stayed out. One with muntjac and roe calls the deer-net title misleading and bought it as bird netting. Several say the net arrives folded, not on a roll, and must be stretched on a frame or it sags.

How we compared

Three amazon.co.uk polypropylene deer-net listings were compared on stated height, whether a mesh size is printed, pegs and ties, UK review notes about deer, and the shelf price in GBP. Display marks are 79, 74 and 61 out of 100. The Royal Horticultural Society, the British Deer Society and grant specifications supply the height and mesh context. This is not a laboratory test, and it is not a check against FG9 or a British Standard. No British Standard number is printed on these listings.

1

Height against the deer

25%

A stated roll height you can compare with RHS and FG9 figures: about 1.5 m for muntjac, about 1.8 m when the species is unknown or larger deer are possible. Clear height falls if the posts are short.

2

Mesh and a closed base

25%

A printed hole size, judged against about 75 mm for muntjac, plus a bottom you can peg or turf. A gap under about 15 cm is a route for roe and muntjac.

3

Fixings and posts

20%

Whether the listing names pegs and ties, and the fact that posts are separate. A roll is not a fence until it is tensioned on posts.

4

UK review notes

20%

Whether extracted reviews from the United Kingdom mention deer staying out, a ripped net, or a deer title that a reviewer rejected. A large global star line is not a UK deer sample.

5

Length and shelf price

10%

Stated roll length against the GBP price on the amazon.co.uk listing. Posts and a gate sit outside these shelf prices.

Deer fence buying guide

A deer fence keeps deer out of a garden only if the clear height matches the species and the bottom is closed. The three rolls on this page are black polypropylene about 2.1 m high, from about £14.59 to about £36.99. They are a seasonal net for a bed you can walk, not a strained steel line and not an FG9 grant fence. Measure the perimeter, including the gate, before you compare length. “40 GSM” and “heavy duty” are seller wording. No British Standard is printed on these listings.

What is a deer fence?

A deer fence is a barrier tall enough, and closed at the ground, that deer go round it. In UK gardens the animals are often roe and muntjac. Fallow, sika and red deer turn up in some areas. The Royal Horticultural Society puts a useful garden height at about 1.5 m for muntjac and about 1.8 m for other deer. Countryside Stewardship grant FG9 uses the same split: 1.5 m for roe and muntjac, 1.8 m for fallow, red and sika.

Best for

  • Gardeners with roe or muntjac around a bed or fruit bushes
  • A seasonal net you can walk after wind
  • A small run where you already have posts

Not ideal for

  • A woodland grant fence under FG9 or a Scottish steel specification
  • A long strained line, or a boundary by a vehicular highway
  • Anyone treating electric tape or 1 m chicken wire as a deer fence

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

    Using 1 m poultry mesh

Chicken wire about 1 m high, and electric polywire, are not a deer fence in the RHS or British Deer Society sense. Deer step or push through a short light barrier. The rolls on this page are titled 2.1 m, and even that is only clear height if the posts hold the top up.

  2. 2

Leaving a gap under the net

Roe and muntjac use a gap under about 15 cm. Peg or turf the bottom, and muntjac notes add a lap of about 150 mm on the ground. A slack net that tangles an animal is the failure the British Deer Society warns about. A fence may exclude deer. It is not a trap.

  3. 3

Reading the star line as a UK deer test

Feitore’s 4.3 from 10,395 is not a UK-only deer sample. The extract holds two UK reviews, and they disagree. “40 GSM” without a printed hole size is seller wording. The 27.4 m MEKKAPRO file has no UK review text. Forget the gate and the fence is open where the animals already walk.

What to weigh up

Height and mesh

High

The RHS describes about 1.5 m for muntjac and about 1.8 m for other deer. FG9 uses 1.5 m for roe and muntjac and 1.8 m for fallow, red and sika. Forest Research raises the figure on large areas and roadsides to at least 1.8 m for fallow, roe or muntjac and 2 m for red and sika. If you do not know the species, plan 1.8 m of clear height. All three listings are titled 2.1 m. That figure is the cloth, not the finished fence.

Base, posts and the label

High

Close the ground before you trust the height. Roe and muntjac use a gap under about 15 cm. Peg the skirt or turf it, and muntjac notes add a lap of about 150 mm lying on the ground. Feitore does not name pegs. Both MEKKAPRO bullets claim 10 ground pegs and 50 zip ties. UK reviews of the 19.8 m pack found them, and several say that count is short if you fix the whole length closely. The 27.4 m extract does not count the pegs. Posts are absent from every box.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

A watched vegetable bed

You have roe or muntjac in a bed or around fruit bushes, and you will add your own posts. The Feitore roll is the longest in this set, 2.1 m by 30 m at about £14.59, and the only one with a printed 1.9 cm mesh. Pegs are not named.

A fruit cage you can walk

You want pegs and ties already claimed in the box, and the largest UK review file in this set. The MEKKAPRO 2.1 m by 19.8 m net is the top pick at about £29.99. One UK review with muntjac and roe still rejects the deer title.

A longer seasonal run

You want the 27.4 m MEKKAPRO title at about £36.99 and you can accept that this extract has no UK review and no deer result. It shares the MP-DEERNET model claim, 40 GSM, and 10 pegs and 50 ties with the shorter roll. Posts are still yours.

Common questions about deer fences

Which deer fence is the top pick in this comparison?
The top pick is the MEKKAPRO 2.1 m by 19.8 m net at about £29.99. The title says 40 GSM, and the bullets claim 10 ground pegs and 50 zip ties, which UK reviews found in the pack. Twelve of 36 extracted reviews are from the United Kingdom, under a line of 4.2 from 39. One UK note says deer stayed out. Another, with muntjac and roe, calls the deer title misleading. No hole size is printed. This is not a laboratory test.
Which deer fence is the best value?
The best value is the Feitore 2.1 m by 30 m net at about £14.59. It is the longest roll in the set and the only listing that prints a mesh size, stated as 1.9 cm. Pegs, posts and zip ties are not named. The star line is 4.3 from 10,395 reviews, and that count is not a UK-only deer sample. Of two UK reviews in the extract, one says deer stayed out on a second roll and one says deer ripped the net. You still supply the posts.
How much does a deer fence cost on amazon.co.uk?
These three polypropylene rolls run from about £14.59 to about £36.99. Feitore is about £14.59 for a stated 2.1 m by 30 m. The shorter MEKKAPRO is about £29.99 for 2.1 m by 19.8 m, with pegs and ties claimed. The longer MEKKAPRO is about £36.99 for 2.1 m by 27.4 m. Posts are not in any box, so the fence costs more than the roll. Permanent steel deer net is not priced on these listings. Prices move.
How high should a deer fence be in the UK?
The RHS describes about 1.5 m for muntjac and about 1.8 m for other deer. Grant FG9 uses 1.5 m for roe and muntjac, and 1.8 m for fallow, red and sika. Forest Research raises that, on areas over about 5 hectares or along roadsides, to at least 1.8 m for fallow, roe or muntjac and 2 m for red and sika. If the species is unknown, plan 1.8 m of clear height. These rolls are titled 2.1 m, which falls if the posts are short.
What mesh size and ground gap should you plan?
FG9 and RHS mesh figures are maxima: about 75 mm for muntjac, and about 200 mm by 150 mm for roe. The British Deer Society notes that a muntjac head can pass a 100 mm hole and snag on the way back. Feitore states 1.9 cm. The MEKKAPRO listings do not. Peg or turf the bottom. Roe and muntjac use a gap under about 15 cm. Muntjac notes add a lap of about 150 mm on the ground.
Do these deer nets include posts?
No. Feitore names one polypropylene net and does not name pegs, posts or zip ties. Both MEKKAPRO listings claim 10 ground pegs and 50 zip ties. UK reviews of the 19.8 m net found those in the pack, though several say that count is short for a close fix along the whole length. The 27.4 m extract does not count the pegs. Posts are separate on every listing here. The net sags unless you fix it to posts and a top line.
When should you leave these rolls?
Leave these polypropylene rolls for a long strained line, a woodland grant fence, or a boundary next to a vehicular highway or a listed building. FG9 is a grant specification, not a description of these nets. In England a new fence is often allowed up to 2 m, but only up to 1 m beside a highway used by vehicles. Permanent mesh is a different product, set out in the wire mesh fence comparison. Electric tape and 1 m chicken wire are not a deer fence.

Our verdict

The top pick is the MEKKAPRO 2.1 m by 19.8 m net at about £29.99. It has the largest UK review file here, and those reviews found the claimed pegs and ties. One UK review with muntjac and roe still calls the deer title misleading, and the hole size is not printed. The best value is the Feitore 2.1 m by 30 m net at about £14.59: the longest roll and the only printed 1.9 cm mesh, with no pegs named and a split UK note on deer. The 27.4 m MEKKAPRO listing at about £36.99 shares the same model claim and has no UK review text in the extract. For a long strained line or a grant fence, leave these rolls.
