Hygrometer comparison 2026

The best hygrometers, compared.

Top pick: TempPro TP49 (3-pack) Best value: TempPro TP157 – Lowest price here among listings at 4.5 or above with at least 1,000 ratings, at about £5.29. Updated October 2026.

A hygrometer is a digital thermo-hygrometer or a humidity logger. It reports relative humidity: water vapour as a percentage of what the air could hold at that temperature. UK shoppers use one to see whether a room is staying wet, or to watch a nursery, a greenhouse, a cellar, a filament box, or a reptile tub. It does not remove it, and it does not replace extract ventilation under Approved Document F. You separate them by the job, the stated range and tolerance, and the cell. If you want air temperature compared on its own, see the [thermometer comparison](/hub/climate-measuring/thermometer). The Met Office uses that percentage as the everyday humidity figure. Dew point and wet-bulb sit beside it, and only the 701 prints those two readings.

A hygrometer is a digital thermo-hygrometer or a humidity logger. It reports relative humidity: water vapour as a percentage of what the air could hold at that temperature.

The best hygrometers in detail

TempPro TP49 (3-pack)

Rank 1

TempPro TP49 (3-pack)

∼£13

Our view

Across 27,830 amazon.co.uk ratings the TempPro TP49 three-pack sits at 4.6 and about £12.61, the largest review file in this set. The bullets state 10% to 99% RH and −50 °C to 70 °C at ±0.5 °C, refreshing every 10 seconds, and they do not state a humidity tolerance. Reviewers mention a clear display, a folding stand, a strong magnet, and a compact body for a nursery, a cellar, or a check against another monitor. One reviewer saw a breath raise the humidity, then a return toward the room figure within about two minutes. Units in the same pack do not match exactly: reviews cite about 0.5 °C, about 1 °C, or a small humidity gap. One reviewer advises against a fridge door because moving the unit changed the temperature reading. The number-of-items field says 1 while the pack field says 3, and the listing says you may receive ThermoPro or TempPro branding.

Pros

  • 4.6 from 27,830 ratings, the largest sample in this set
  • 10% to 99% RH and ±0.5 °C printed, with a 10-second refresh
  • Stand, magnet, and a mounting slot, with 3 AAA on the included line
  • One review saw humidity rise with a breath and settle within about two minutes

Cons

  • No humidity tolerance is printed
  • Pack mates differ by about 0.5 °C to about 1 °C
  • The reading can shift when the unit is moved, including on a fridge door
  • The items field says 1 while the listing is sold as a pack of three

Best for: Three rooms if a glance is enough and about a degree between units is acceptable.

Less suitable: A job that needs the three screens to agree, or a printed humidity tolerance.

TempPro TP49

Rank 2

TempPro TP49

Our view

The single TempPro TP49 is listed at about £8.54, and across 10,611 amazon.co.uk ratings it scores 4.6. The bullets state 10% to 99% RH and −50 °C to 70 °C, with a 10-second refresh, and they do not state a humidity tolerance. Reviewers start it from the AAA in the box and use the stand, the magnet, or the hanging slot in a bedroom, a greenhouse, or a campervan. One salt-test review describes a small offset against about 75% RH. The attribute says 2 AAA batteries are required, while the included line lists one AAA. Enclosed cells arrived dead on more than one UK review, one reviewer says a battery lasted 3 to 4 days, and one display went odd after 36 hours. There is no backlight in the bullets, and one detailed review says you need a light at night. One other reviewer changed the cell for the first time after a purchase in 2021.

Pros

  • 4.6 from 10,611 ratings at about £8.54
  • 10% to 99% RH, with a stand, a magnet, and a hanging slot
  • One salt-test note of a small offset around 75% RH
  • One reviewer changed the cell for the first time after a 2021 purchase

Cons

  • No humidity tolerance, and no backlight in the bullets
  • The attribute says 2 AAA are required and the box lists 1 AAA
  • Dead AAA cells in the box, and one report of a cell lasting 3 to 4 days
  • One display went odd after about 36 hours

Best for: One indoor room if you will read it in the light and you do not need minimum and maximum on the screen.

Less suitable: A night-time reading, a log, or a buyer who needs the battery count to agree with itself.

Govee H5075

Rank 3

Govee H5075

∼£10

Our view

Across 5,742 amazon.co.uk ratings the Govee H5075 sits at 4.6 and about £9.98, and reviewers use the 3-inch LCD for a glance and the app for live readings, history, CSV export, and firmware. The bullets state ±3% RH and a refresh of up to 2 seconds, and they do not state a humidity span. Temperature accuracy is printed as ±0.54 °F in the bullets and 0.3 °C on the attribute, which is the same step if you convert, while the upper attribute of 86.54 °F is not a full range. UK buyers mention cigar humidors, a nursery, and a wine-cellar style space, and several call the readings close enough after a salt test and an offset in the app. Bluetooth connects to one phone at a time, and one review calls the link hit and miss inside a fridge. The listing is not described as Wi-Fi, so a phone alert only applies while that phone is in range. One UK review found the supplied batteries dead, and the cell chemistry is not named on the listing.

Pros

  • 4.6 from 5,742 ratings, with a stated ±3% RH
  • Max and min on the screen, plus app history and CSV export
  • Used in humidors, a nursery, and a cellar-style space
  • One UK reviewer reports battery life of months

Cons

  • Not described as Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connects to one phone at a time
  • Humidity span is not stated, and 86.54 °F is an upper attribute rather than a range
  • Connectivity described as hit and miss in a fridge
  • Cell chemistry is not named, and one UK review found the supplied batteries dead

Best for: A graph and a CSV you will download while you are still in Bluetooth range.

Less suitable: Anyone who needs an alert while they are away from the house, or a printed humidity span.

Common questions

Does the listing say this is Wi-Fi?

The bullets describe Bluetooth and the Govee Home app, with a range up to 60 m or 196 ft, and they say walls affect the connection. They do not call the meter Wi-Fi.

What history can the app store?

The bullets say 20-day curve graphs and an export of up to two years as CSV. Alerts go to the phone after it is connected by Bluetooth, when a preset range is exceeded.

What accuracy is printed?

The bullets say temperature accurate to ±0.54 °F and humidity ±3% RH, with a response up to 2 seconds. The temperature accuracy attribute says 0.3 °C. The humidity span is not stated. The upper temperature attribute is 86.54 °F.

DANOPLUS DP-483

Rank 4

DANOPLUS DP-483

∼£23

Our view

The DANOPLUS DP-483 is a handheld meter at about £22.99, and the amazon.co.uk line is 4.6 from 11 ratings. The bullets state 0% to 100% RH, −20 °C to 60 °C, ±1.5 °C, a 1-second refresh, a backlight, and hold with maximum and minimum, on a screen of about 34 mm by 31 mm. A humidity tolerance is not stated. The title says psychrometer, and the bullets do not name wet-bulb or dew point. Three stored texts are from the United States, Germany, and France, so this is not a UK sample. The US note calls it useful for finding damper spots at home. The French note says a room held near 50% RH showed 42%, about 8 points low, and that the reviewer would not use it for precise work. Alkaline cells are named as the power type and are not on the included line, and eleven ratings are too thin a record to treat 4.6 as settled.

Pros

  • 0% to 100% RH, a backlight, hold, and maximum and minimum
  • Refresh stated as 1 second, on a screen of about 34 mm by 31 mm
  • A pouch and an English manual are on the included line
  • The bullets name warehouses, homes, HVAC, greenhouses, and cigar humidors

Cons

  • 4.6 from 11 ratings, and the three stored texts are not UK reviews
  • No humidity tolerance is stated
  • The title says psychrometer and the bullets do not name wet-bulb or dew point
  • One non-UK report of about 8 points low against a room held near 50% RH

Best for: A handheld spot check with a backlight if 11 ratings are enough and you do not need a UK review file.

Less suitable: A precise room average, or anyone reading the title as a wet-bulb or dew-point meter.

Common questions

Does it show wet-bulb?

The title includes the word psychrometer. The bullets state relative humidity from 0% to 100% RH and ambient temperature from −20 °C to 60 °C. They do not mention wet-bulb or dew point.

Does it have a backlight?

The bullets name an LCD backlight, data hold, max/min, and °C/°F. The screen is described as a 4-digit LCD about 34 mm by 31 mm, refreshing every second.

What temperature accuracy is stated?

The bullets state ±1.5 °C (±3 °F). They do not state a humidity tolerance. The included line lists the meter, a pouch, and an English manual, not a battery.

TempPro TP157

Rank 5

TempPro TP157

Our view

Across 9,551 amazon.co.uk ratings the TempPro TP157 sits at 4.5 and about £5.29, the lowest price in this set among listings at 4.5 or above with at least 1,000 ratings, which is why it is both the top pick and the best value on this method. The bullets state ±0.5 °C and ±2% to 3% RH, with a refresh of up to 10 seconds, and they do not print a humidity span. UK reviewers fit the included AAA and use the stand, the magnet, or the hanging hole on a bedside table, a shelf, or in a campervan, and more than one mentions a nursery and the face icon. The same reviews say the body is much smaller than the photo: the listing size is 5.3 cm by 1.8 cm, one buyer measured about 5.5 cm square, and another says it fits in the palm. Supplied AAA cells arrived dead for more than one buyer. One campervan unit lost two LCD elements after about 18 months, and a review that describes a three-piece delivery says one unit showed no number, while the attribute pack count is 1. The listing says the meter is not waterproof and is not an aquarium thermometer.

Pros

  • About £5.29 and 4.5 from 9,551 ratings, the lowest price here among 4.5-star listings with at least 1,000 ratings
  • Stated tolerance of ±0.5 °C and ±2% to 3% RH
  • AAA included, with a table holder, a magnetic back, or a hanging hole
  • Nursery use and a face icon in more than one UK review

Cons

  • Humidity span is not stated
  • Much smaller than the photo: about 5.5 cm in one measurement
  • Supplied AAA arrived dead for more than one buyer
  • LCD segments failed after about 18 months in one report, and the listing says it is not waterproof

Best for: A nursery, bedside, or campervan if you want the tightest stated humidity tolerance in this set and you can read a small screen.

Less suitable: Anyone who needs a printed humidity span, a log, or a waterproof meter for a tank.

What tolerance is stated?

The bullets say accuracy up to ±0.5 °C and ±2% to 3% RH, with a refresh of up to 10 seconds. They do not state the humidity span. The upper temperature rating is 70 °C.

How do you place it?

The bullets name a table holder, a magnetic back, and a hanging hole. The mounting attribute says wall mount. One 1.5 V AAA battery is on the included line.

TempPro TP50

Rank 6

TempPro TP50

Our view

The TempPro TP50 is listed at about £8.49, and across 7,145 amazon.co.uk ratings it scores 4.5. The highlight names maximum and minimum, which reviewers use when they move a dehumidifier between rooms, and the bullets state 10% to 99% RH with a 10-second refresh. Temperature is printed twice: the bullets say −50 °C to 70 °C, and the upper attribute says 40 °C. Accuracy is also printed twice, as 0.5 °C and as ±0.1 °C, and a humidity tolerance is not stated. Reviewers praise a clear display and a fridge magnet, and some say two units match on temperature after a short settle. Humidity can still disagree between two units bought together while the temperatures match. One reviewer is unsure the pair is reliable because neither reading moved over a short test, and the instruction leaflet is described as about 4 cm by 5 cm. One review says the meter is not waterproof, and a customer-service replacement is noted in a review edit.

Pros

  • Maximum and minimum named on the highlight, and used by people moving a dehumidifier
  • 4.5 from 7,145 ratings at about £8.49
  • Clear display and a magnet, with an AAA cell on the included line
  • Temperature described as matching between two units after a short settle

Cons

  • Bullets run to 70 °C and the attribute upper rating is 40 °C
  • Attributes contain both 0.5 °C and ±0.1 °C, and no humidity tolerance
  • A large humidity gap between two units bought together
  • A leaflet of about 4 cm by 5 cm, and the listing is not stated as waterproof

Best for: A plant room or utility room if you want overnight minimum and maximum on the glass and you will keep both temperature lines.

Less suitable: Anyone who needs one temperature limit, a stated humidity tolerance, or a phone log.

Does it store high and low readings?

The item highlight names max and min recording, a 10-second refresh, and a climate indicator. There is no app or radio in the listing.

How do you mount it?

The bullets name a tabletop and magnet mount, and a Celsius or Fahrenheit selector. Power is an AAA battery, and the included-components line says Battery.

Thlevel TBM-40 (6-pack)

Rank 7

Thlevel TBM-40 (6-pack)

∼£15

Our view

The Thlevel TBM-40 six-pack is listed at about £14.99, and across 11,715 amazon.co.uk ratings it scores 4.3. The bullets state 20% to 90% RH, ±5% RH at 25 °C, and −50 °C to +70 °C at ±1.0 °C, on a body of 44 mm by 15 mm. Reviewers put the dots in filament boxes, bedrooms, a bar, a garage, a shed, and a greenhouse. One calibration note puts the six within about 1% RH of each other and about 1–2% of other meters, with temperature within 0.2 °C between units. One filament user says they do not read below 10% RH, under the stated 20% floor. Reviews describe no rear fitting, so a wall is awkward, and the included-components line lists six thermometers while the bullets name an LR44 cell. A cell arrived flat, and another set arrived with the insulation tab already off. A loose button cell is a swallowing hazard if a child can reach it.

Pros

  • 20% to 90% RH and ±5% RH at 25 °C both printed, with ±1.0 °C
  • 4.3 from 11,715 ratings
  • One note of six units within about 1% RH of each other
  • About 44 mm by 15 mm, small enough for filament boxes

Cons

  • No rear mount in the reviews, so a wall fix is awkward
  • An LR44 arrived flat, or with the pull-tab already removed
  • One filament user says they do not read below 10% RH
  • Button cells are named in the bullets and are not on the included-components line

Best for: Several small boxes or rooms if ±5% RH at 25 °C is enough and you will find your own fixing.

Less suitable: A bare wall, air you expect under 20% RH, or a home where a loose button cell could be reached by a child.

Which battery does the listing name?

The bullets and the battery attribute name one 1.5 V LR44 button cell. The included-components line lists 6 thermometers and does not repeat the cells.

How large is each meter?

The dimension attribute is 44 mm wide by 15 mm high. The listing does not describe a stand, a magnet, or a hanging hole.

iHMeiju reptile pair

Rank 8

iHMeiju reptile pair

Our view

The iHMeiju listing is two stick-on reptile thermo-hygrometers at about £6.99, and across 133 amazon.co.uk ratings it scores 4.3. The bullets state 10% to 99% RH at ±5%, a range of −58 °F to +158 °F at ±1 °F, and a 5-second refresh, while the upper temperature attribute is 70 °C. Reviewers stick them inside a snake vivarium and with jumping spiders, and one says both units read the same percentage. One buyer preferred them to a temperature gun for a snake viv. Battery life is stated as 3 months in the bullets and 90 days on the attribute. The reusability attribute says rechargeable, and the bullets say a 1.5 V button cell. UK reviews include wrong readings with no second measurement given, a unit that stopped in a vivarium, and a pair that stopped working quickly. The meters are smaller than some buyers expected.

Pros

  • Two stick-on meters at about £6.99, named for reptile enclosures
  • 10% to 99% RH and ±5% printed, with a 5-second refresh
  • One reviewer says both units read the same percentage
  • One buyer preferred the pair to a temperature gun in a snake vivarium

Cons

  • The attribute says rechargeable and the bullets say a 1.5 V button cell
  • A unit stopped in a vivarium, and another buyer says a pair stopped quickly
  • Wrong readings reported by one UK buyer, with no second measurement
  • 4.3 from 133 ratings, and smaller than some buyers expected

Best for: A snake or spider tub if you will notice a unit that stops and ±5% RH is enough.

Less suitable: A whole-home humidity check, or a tank where a failed stick-on would go unnoticed.

How is it powered?

The bullets say a 1.5 V button cell with a life of about 3 months. The battery-life attribute says 90 days. A separate reusability attribute says rechargeable.

How do you fit it in a tank?

The bullets say you stick the dot glue in the reptile tank. The indoor/outdoor attribute says Indoor. Fahrenheit and Celsius switch with a double press of the on/off button.

Boulton mini

Rank 9

Boulton mini

Our view

The Boulton mini is listed at about £4.79, the lowest price in this set, and across 72 amazon.co.uk ratings it scores 4.3. The bullets state ±1 °C and ±5%, with a 10-second refresh and a battery included, and they do not state a humidity span or a temperature range. Reviewers call it small and still readable for some of them, and one used the supplied sticker on a wall at work. Buyers mention a room check for an older relative and, in one case, a tortoise’s outdoor temperature. One UK review says the temperature jumped between about 40 °C and about 20 °C while the humidity stayed at 99%, which made that unit unusable. That stuck reading is not repeated in the other sampled texts. Size, rather than a broken screen, is the complaint that comes up more than once. Seventy-two ratings sit under the 1,000-rating line used for best value.

Pros

  • About £4.79, the lowest shelf price in this set
  • ±1 °C and ±5% both stated, with a 10-second refresh
  • A sticker is supplied, and a battery is included though the chemistry is not named
  • Used for a room check and, in one review, a tortoise’s outdoor temperature

Cons

  • No humidity span and no temperature range
  • 4.3 from 72 ratings, under the 1,000-rating line used for best value
  • One unit stuck at 99% RH while temperature swung between about 40 °C and about 20 °C
  • Smaller than several buyers expected

Best for: A cheap second face if 72 ratings and a stated ±5% are enough for the room you have in mind.

Less suitable: A decision that depends on the meter not sticking at 99%, or a printed humidity span.

The bullets name double-sided tape and list greenhouses, gardens, rooms, and kitchens. The title also names a reptile, a greenhouse, and a garden.

CNMTCCO 4-pack

Rank 10

CNMTCCO 4-pack

∼£11

Our view

The CNMTCCO four-pack is listed at about £10.99, and across 774 amazon.co.uk ratings it scores 4.2. The bullets state ±1 °C and ±5% RH, a 10-second refresh, a CR2032, and adhesive tape for a table, a fridge, or a wall, and they do not state a humidity span. The upper temperature rating is 70 °C, and a lower limit is not stated. UK buyers who are satisfied call the meters cheap enough for one in each main room and use them to trim radiators. The screens are very small and hard to read unless the angle is right. One UK review put four units in the same place and saw about 5 °C from the lowest to the highest, and two units by an open window did not match the outdoor figure that buyer was using. Many of the sampled texts are not UK reviews. There is no repeated battery-failure story in the UK texts sampled, and the listing does not mention a backlight.

Pros

  • Four meters at about £10.99, with a CR2032 and adhesive tape
  • ±1 °C and ±5% RH stated, refreshing every 10 seconds
  • Used as one meter per main room to trim radiators
  • No repeated dead-cell story in the UK texts sampled

Cons

  • 4.2 from 774 ratings, and many of the sampled texts are not UK reviews
  • Humidity span is not stated, and the lower temperature limit is not stated
  • One UK review saw about 5 °C from the lowest to the highest of four units
  • The display is very small and hard to read unless the angle is right

Best for: Four rooms if you will walk up to the screen and a few degrees between units is acceptable.

Less suitable: A shared reading the four meters must agree on, or a display you need to read from across the room.

Common questions

What accuracy does the listing state?

The bullets say within ±1 °C and ±5% RH, with a refresh every 10 seconds. They do not state the humidity span.

How do you mount it?

The bullets include adhesive tape and name a bedside table, a fridge, or a wall. Rooms named include a living room, bedroom, office, reptile terrarium, and garage.

Which battery is included?

The bullets say a CR2032 is included and that you start the meter by removing the insulation tab. The battery attribute also says CR2032.

Tzone THS 701

Rank 11

Tzone THS 701

∼£161

Our view

The Tzone THS 701 is a USB temperature and humidity logger listed at about £160.99, and the listing has no star line and no review text. The bullets state ambient temperature from −40 °C to 125 °C, dew point and wet-bulb from −40 °C to 80 °C, and 0% to 100% RH, with a 1-second refresh and room for 49,920 groups. The listing says the USB file can be TXT, CSV, XLS, or PDF and that no software is required. The included line names a data logger, a user manual, and a calibration certificate, and the bullets also name an external probe and a portable box. A numeric humidity or temperature tolerance is not printed, so the certificate line is not a tolerance you can quote. Three AA cells are required and included. A buzzer sounds when temperature or humidity leaves a set range, and any button stops the sound. With no amazon.co.uk reviews, the page can only repeat what the listing prints.

Pros

  • Dew point, wet-bulb, and relative humidity printed on one meter
  • USB file in TXT, CSV, XLS, or PDF, with 49,920 groups and no software claimed
  • A calibration certificate is on the included line, with an external probe named in the bullets
  • Backlit display, a buzzer, and 3 AA cells included

Cons

  • About £160.99 and no amazon.co.uk review line
  • No numeric humidity or temperature tolerance
  • No owner report in this set checks the calibration certificate
  • Far above the price of a room face if all you need is a glance

Best for: A cellar, greenhouse, or store if you need dew point and a file without a phone, and you can buy an unreviewed listing.

Less suitable: A nursery glance, or anyone who needs a printed tolerance and UK reviews before spending about £160.99.

Common questions

Which readings does the listing include?

The bullets name ambient temperature from −40 °C to 125 °C, dew point and wet-bulb from −40 °C to 80 °C, and relative humidity from 0% to 100% RH. They do not print a numeric tolerance.

How do you get the log off the meter?

The bullets say a USB port writes TXT, CSV, XLS, or PDF reports with no software, up to 49,920 groups, at a 1-second rate. The LCD shows current, max, min, and average.

What is in the box?

The included line lists the logger, a user manual, and a calibration certificate. The bullets also name an external probe, a portable box, and 3 AA batteries. The battery attribute says 3 AA are required and included.

KUYTUE keyring

Rank 12

KUYTUE keyring

∼£50

Our view

The KUYTUE keyring hygrometer is listed at about £49.99, and the listing has no star line and no review text. The upper temperature attribute is 50 °C, the refresh is 10 seconds, and the length is 22 cm. A humidity span and a humidity tolerance are not stated. Power is printed three ways: solar and a button cell in the bullets, 1 AAA on the attribute, and rechargeable on the reusability line. Weight is 30 g in the bullets and 40 g on the attribute. The outdoor attribute sits beside bullets that also say you can hang it indoors, on a backpack, in a vehicle, or in a tent. Those bullets tell you to keep it out of heavy rain and out of immersion. With no reviews and no humidity specification, the listing does not show what percentage you would be reading.

Pros

  • A 22 cm keyring form for a bag, a vehicle, or a hook
  • A 10-second refresh is stated
  • The bullets name travel, a tent, and an indoor hook
  • A splash-only limit is printed, so heavy rain is excluded in the same listing

Cons

  • About £49.99 with no amazon.co.uk reviews
  • No humidity span and no humidity tolerance
  • Solar and a button cell, 1 AAA, and rechargeable are all printed, and weight is both 30 g and 40 g
  • The outdoor attribute and an indoor hanging line appear in the same listing

Best for: A keyring shape only if you already accept that the humidity specification is missing.

Less suitable: A room, a greenhouse, or a damp check where the percentage and its tolerance have to be printed.

Common questions

What humidity specification is printed?

The listing does not state a humidity range or a humidity tolerance. The upper temperature rating is 50 °C, and the response-time attribute is 10 seconds.

How is it powered?

The bullets say dual solar and button-cell power. The battery attribute says 1 AAA battery is required, and the reusability attribute says rechargeable. The included line lists the hygrometer only.

Can it go out in the rain?

The bullets claim basic splash resistance and say it must be kept out of heavy rain or immersion. The indoor/outdoor attribute says Outdoor. The bullets also say you can hang it indoors.

How we compared

We compared 12 hygrometers on amazon.co.uk and scored them from the listing facts in this set. Prices, stars, and review counts are the UK lines from 15 October 2026. There was no lab test, and the scores do not name the most accurate hygrometer in the UK. The four weights below sum to 100.

1

Amazon stars, damped by review count

35%

Star points are the amazon.co.uk rating over 5, times 35, then damped when the sample is small. No review line scores 0. From 1,000 ratings the sample factor is 1.

2

Humidity specification

25%

Points favour a numeric relative-humidity span and a numeric tolerance that agree with the attribute table. A missing span, a missing tolerance, or two temperature limits that cannot both be true take points off.

3

Shelf price

20%

A lower price in this set scores higher, because most rows are room gauges. The cheapest listing gets the full 20. The £160.99 logger is not scored as a room-gauge bargain.

4

Job fit from UK review notes

20%

A clear mount, a cell in the box, and a repeated use such as a nursery, rooms, or a tub add points. Dead cells, pack mates that disagree, a stuck 99%, and a unit that stopped take points off. No review text keeps this block low.

Hygrometer buying guide

The notes below follow the order used for these twelve listings: the job, the stated humidity line, then power and where the meter sits. What to demand, and what to refuse, is set out in the [hygrometer buying guide](/hub/climate-measuring/hygrometer/sub/hygrometer-buying-guide).

What is a hygrometer?

A hygrometer here is a digital thermo-hygrometer or a humidity logger. It reports relative humidity, which is water vapour as a percentage of what the air could hold at that temperature. The Met Office uses that percentage as the everyday humidity figure. Dew point and wet-bulb sit beside it, and in this set only the Tzone THS 701 prints those two readings. A dehumidifier removes water. A hygrometer only measures it. Start with the job.

Best for

  • A nursery, bedside, or campervan glance with a stated humidity tolerance
  • Several rooms or filament boxes when the span and ±5% RH are printed
  • A graph or CSV you will read while the phone is still in Bluetooth range

Not ideal for

  • A meter you expect to prevent mould or to meet Approved Document F
  • An alert while you are away from the house
  • A waterproof tank thermometer, or a keyring with no humidity specification

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

Using the bathroom as the whole home

Yorkshire Housing puts the meter on a lounge or bedroom shelf, about a metre from doors and windows, not on the floor and not in the bathroom as the picture of the house. A shower spike is not the daily room.

  2. 2

Expecting two ±5% meters to match

A stated ±5% RH lets two units sit 10 points apart and still match the maker’s words. Pack mates on the TP49 three-pack are described as about 0.5 °C to about 1 °C apart. That gap is in the reviews.

  3. 3

Reading a title as a feature

The H5075 bullets describe Bluetooth, not Wi-Fi, so a phone alert stops when you leave range. The DANOPLUS title says psychrometer, and the bullets do not name wet-bulb or dew point. Only the Tzone listing prints those two readings.

What to weigh up

Job and the stated humidity line

High

Decide the job before the brand. A glance, a multipack, minimum and maximum, Bluetooth history, a handheld, a USB logger, and a keyring are different tools. The humidity line is the next check: a numeric span and a numeric tolerance, with any temperature condition. Thlevel is the clearest cheap line in this set because it prints both 20% to 90% RH and ±5% RH at 25 °C.

Power, mounting, and where it sits

High

None of these meters uses a BS 1363 plug. Cells are AAA, CR2032, LR44, or three AA. The single TP49 says 2 AAA are required and lists 1 AAA in the box. The iHMeiju bullets say a 1.5 V button cell for about three months, and a separate attribute says rechargeable. A loose button cell is a swallowing hazard. Dead cells in the box appear in more than one UK note for the TP157 and the single TP49.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Nursery or bedside glance

You want a small indoor face with the tightest stated humidity tolerance in this set, ±2% to 3% RH, and you can read a screen of about 5 cm. The span is not printed, and the listing says it is not waterproof.

Our recommendation

View offer

Several small boxes or rooms

You want six discs at about £14.99 with 20% to 90% RH and ±5% RH at 25 °C both printed. You will find your own fixing, and a loose LR44 must stay out of a child’s reach.

A graph while you are at home

You want maximum and minimum, a 20-day app graph, and a CSV, and you accept Bluetooth to one phone. The listing is not Wi-Fi, so an alert does not apply once you leave the house.

Common questions about hygrometers

Which hygrometer is the top pick in this set?
The top pick is the TempPro TP157, and on this method it is also the best value. It is about £5.29, with 4.5 from 9,551 amazon.co.uk ratings. The bullets state ±0.5 °C and ±2% to 3% RH, the tightest stated humidity tolerance here. The humidity span is not printed, the body is smaller than the photo, and the listing says it is not waterproof. This is a room face from the listing, not a laboratory ranking.
How much does a hygrometer cost on amazon.co.uk?
On these twelve shelves, checked on 15 October 2026, entry is about £4.79 to £14.99, including the Govee H5075 at about £9.98. The Centre for Sustainable Energy says meters can cost as little as £8. That is this band, not a promise of ±1% RH. Mid here is the DANOPLUS DP-483 at about £22.99. The Tzone logger is about £160.99, one listing rather than a band. Prices move. Do not split a multipack into a unit price.
What indoor humidity do UK sources suggest?
The Centre for Sustainable Energy says about 40–60% at home, with mould risk above 60%. East Herts Council says 30–60% in cooler weather and warns against a long spell above 70%. There is no single legal band, and this page does not claim the NHS sets 50% RH. The Property Care Association’s 2023 code, quoting BS 5250:2021, says a winter wall face can be about 10 RH points wetter than the room air. The meter reads air, not plaster.
Does a hygrometer stop damp and mould?
A hygrometer measures relative humidity. It does not remove water, and it does not satisfy Approved Document F extract ventilation for kitchens and bathrooms in England. GOV.UK treats damp and mould as a health risk for landlords. A long spell near 70% can feed mould without water on the paint, so a shelf reading is a clue, not a treatment. How indoor moisture fits that picture is in indoor humidity and mould.
When is a Bluetooth hygrometer worth it instead of a basic face?
The Govee H5075, about £9.98 with 4.6 from 5,742 ratings, stores max and min and a 20-day app graph, plus a CSV of up to two years. The bullets state ±3% RH and Bluetooth up to 60 m. They do not call it Wi-Fi. It links to one phone, so an alert applies in range, not while you are away. A plain face such as the TP157 is enough for a glance. The Tzone USB logger, at about £160.99, has no reviews and no numeric tolerance.
Where should you put a room hygrometer?
Yorkshire Housing says a lounge or bedroom shelf, out of sun and draughts, about a metre from doors and windows, not on the floor, and not in the bathroom as the picture of the whole home. Let it settle. A shower reading is not the house. A sill, a radiator, or the floor is a poor only-meter spot. Two meters stated at ±5% RH can sit 10 points apart and still match the maker’s words.
What if the listing prints two temperature ranges?
Keep both lines. The TempPro TP50 bullets say −50 °C to 70 °C, and the upper temperature attribute says 40 °C. Its attributes also contain both 0.5 °C and ±0.1 °C, and no humidity tolerance is stated. On the Govee H5075, 86.54 °F is an upper attribute, not a full range. ±0.54 °F and 0.3 °C are the same step after conversion, so they are not scored as two tolerances. Do not collapse a real clash into one number.
Are button-cell hygrometers a problem around children?
The Thlevel TBM-40 names an LR44 cell, and the iHMeiju pair names a 1.5 V button cell while a separate attribute says rechargeable. A loose button cell is a swallowing hazard if a child can reach it. Reviews also describe flat LR44 cells and pull-tabs already removed. None of these meters uses a BS 1363 plug. If you need a log for a landlord conversation, a graph still has to go through the housing route. It is not a substitute for the GOV.UK damp and mould guidance.

Our verdict

Across these twelve amazon.co.uk listings, the top pick for a small room face is the TempPro TP157, and on this method it is also the best value: about £5.29, 4.5 from 9,551 ratings, and a stated ±0.5 °C and ±2% to 3% RH. That is the lowest price here among listings at 4.5 or above with at least 1,000 ratings. The humidity span is not printed, supplied AAA cells arrived dead for more than one buyer, and the meter is not waterproof. The Govee H5075 is the row for a graph and a CSV while you are still in Bluetooth range. The Thlevel six-pack is the row when you need 20% to 90% RH and ±5% RH at 25 °C printed on six discs. The Boulton mini is cheaper, at about £4.79, and its 72 ratings sit under the line this method uses for best value.
