Window thermometer comparison 2026

The best window thermometers, compared.

Top pick: Jiujuda9 4-pack window thermometer Best value: Faithfull stick-on window thermometer – About £4.31, the lowest dump price among listings with at least 100 ratings, and 3.9 from 684. Updated October 2026.

A window thermometer is a small gauge on the glass so you can read the outdoor side from indoors. You want a coat-or-not number, not a Met Office exposure and not a greenhouse maximum and minimum. Shade, a readable scale, pads that survive rain, and a stated accuracy with a condition are what separate a usable gauge. The Met Office measures shaded air in a screen at 1.25 m. A room number, rather than the glass, is a [thermometer comparison](/hub/climate-measuring/thermometer). The job is a coat-or-not number before you leave a kitchen or a flat. Keep the case out of direct sun, on the outside face of a pane you can see from indoors.

What do you want the glass to show?

The best window thermometers in detail

Jiujuda9 4-pack window thermometer

Rank 1

Jiujuda9 4-pack window thermometer

Our view

Four analogue self-adhesive window thermometers from Jiujuda9 cost about £5.99 in the dump, and across 25 amazon.co.uk ratings the pack scores 4.3, which sits under the 100-rating line this method uses for the best value pick. The bullets say −50 °C to 50 °C, a length of 7.5 cm, a white face with red and blue scales, metal hands, and a transparent case you can read through the glass. A UK review says there is no battery, and describes a coil sitting at 20 °C that moved to 5 °C in a fridge the reviewer measured at 5 degrees. UK buyers mention outside windows, a sun lounge, and a caravan. One greenhouse user compared a dial with a digital, estimated about 1–2 °C off, and accepted that for plants. One UK title says it is not perfect, and the same review calls the result decent. The UK reviews in this dump do not repeat a breakage or a failed pad. Non-UK reviews in the same file, from Sweden and Germany, are not part of the UK 4.3, and those writers say all four dials read about 3–4 °C high.

Pros

  • Four analogue dials for about £5.99
  • Bullet range −50 °C to 50 °C, read through the glass
  • UK review: no battery, and a coil moved from 20 °C to 5 °C in a fridge measured at 5 degrees
  • UK reviews in this dump do not repeat a pad failure or a breakage

Cons

  • 4.3 from 25 ratings, under the 100-rating line for the best value pick
  • One UK greenhouse comparison was about 1–2 °C off a digital
  • Non-UK reviews in the dump, kept out of the UK 4.3, say about 3–4 °C high
  • A printed −50 °C to 50 °C scale is not a stated ambient tolerance

Best for: Extra windows, a caravan, or a sun lounge if you want several cheap dials and a degree or two is enough for you.

Less suitable: A buyer who wants a named tolerance, a large UK review set, or overnight minimum and maximum on the glass.

Common questions

Does the Jiujuda9 window thermometer need a battery?

The bullets do not say. A UK review says there is no battery, and describes a coil that moved from 20 °C to 5 °C in a fridge.

What is the pack size and the printed range?

Four thermometers. The bullets say −50 °C to 50 °C and a length of 7.5 cm. The dump price is £5.99.

Can you read it through the window?

The bullets say the dial is read through the glass and that it sticks to smooth glass without tools or drilling.

Whispern Cloud 2-pack window thermometer

Rank 2

Whispern Cloud 2-pack window thermometer

Our view

The Whispern Cloud pack is two self-adhesive window thermometers at about £5.99, and the bullets state a range of −50 °C to +50 °C. Across five amazon.co.uk ratings it sits at 4.2, and all five stored UK reviews are short. Four of them say the pair is easy to read and easy to stick on the outside of a window when you are deciding on a coat. One of the five calls the accuracy questionable, and that is the only defect theme written down. The display attribute says Digital, while the bullets call the same product analogue and digital, and also a refrigerator thermometer. Two sizes are printed, 7.5 × 7.5 cm and an item length of 18 cm, and the model number SFF-195 does not match the manufacturer part SFG-195. A customer question about whether batteries are included is unanswered in the dump. Five short lines are not a failure rate, so 4.2 is too thin a record to settle how the dial behaves.

Pros

  • Two thermometers for about £5.99
  • Bullet range −50 °C to +50 °C
  • Four of five short UK reviews say it is easy to read and easy to fit
  • Self-adhesive fitting bullet, with no drilling or screws

Cons

  • Display attribute says Digital, while the bullets also say analogue
  • Only five short UK reviews, and one calls the accuracy questionable
  • Two size figures, and model SFF-195 does not match part SFG-195
  • The battery question is unanswered in the dump

Best for: A second window if you want a cheap pair and you can live with five short reviews that do not settle accuracy.

Less suitable: Anyone who needs a consistent listing, a published tolerance, or enough reviews to judge the pads.

Common questions

How many thermometers are in the Whispern Cloud pack?

The title and the unit count say two. The price in the dump is £5.99.

Is it digital or analogue?

The display attribute says Digital. The bullets call the same product analogue and digital. The five short UK reviews do not describe the mechanism. One of them says the accuracy is questionable.

Does the listing say it needs a battery?

A customer question asks whether batteries are included. The dump has no answer. The fitting bullet says self-adhesive, with no drilling or screws.

Faithfull stick-on window thermometer

Rank 3

Faithfull stick-on window thermometer

Our view

Across 684 amazon.co.uk ratings the Faithfull FAITHWINDOW sits at 3.9 and about £4.31, the lowest dump price among the listings here with at least 100 ratings, which is why it is the best value on this method. The attribute table says the display is digital and the power source is AC, yet the first 50 UK reviews describe a dial with a stiff lever, and one of them names a bimetal coil and a small adjustment screw the packaging does not mention. Owners use it on a kitchen window or a motorhome as a coat-or-not check, and one buyer was on a third unit after an older one lasted many years until spiders slowed the mechanism. The same reviews treat the reading as a rough guide: written examples include 32 shown as 10, 40 when it was 15, and readings 5–10 degrees high. Sticky pads lose grip within a fortnight, after a few months, or after about a year, the box has no spare pads, and a second fall after failed pads left one unit broken. The case is cheap plastic, and some units come apart after a few months. At 11 cm and 30 g it is a light stick-on gauge with an upper listing rating of 50 °C, and the page does not state an ambient tolerance.

Pros

  • About £4.31, the lowest dump price among listings with at least 100 ratings
  • 3.9 from 684 ratings, the largest sample in this set
  • Read from indoors on a kitchen window or a motorhome, and the UK reviews do not mention a cell
  • One older unit lasted many years until spiders slowed the mechanism

Cons

  • Attribute table says Digital and AC; UK reviews describe a dial
  • Pads fail within a fortnight, a few months, or about a year, with no spares in the box
  • Written examples of 32 shown as 10, 40 when it was 15, and 5–10 degrees high
  • Stiff lever, cheap plastic, and some units come apart or break after a fall

Best for: A kitchen window or motorhome if you want a low-priced coat-or-not check and you will keep spare pads.

Less suitable: Anyone who needs a stated ambient tolerance, a digital minimum and maximum, or pads the reviews say will stay put.

Common questions

Is the Faithfull window thermometer digital?

The amazon.co.uk attribute table says display type Digital and power AC. UK reviews in the same dump describe a dial with a lever and, in one review, a bimetal coil. Those reviews do not mention a cell.

How many come in the box, and what is the dump price?

The listing says one window thermometer. The price in the dump is £4.31, shown here as about £4.31.

Do the sticky pads stay on?

UK reviews say the pads lose grip within a fortnight, after a few months, or after about a year. The same reviews say the box has no spare pads, and that a fall can break the dial.

Brannan outside window thermometer

Rank 4

Brannan outside window thermometer

Our view

The Brannan 14/419/3 is an analogue stick-on window thermometer listed at about £5.95, and across 153 amazon.co.uk ratings it scores 3.7. The Amazon row gives an upper rating of 120 °F and a power source of ac, while the maker sheet for this model states −20 °C to +50 °C, ±2.0 °C at ambient, 1 °C divisions, a size of 85 × 65 × 12 mm, made in the UK, and no cell. That published ambient tolerance, on a shaded pane, is why this listing is the top pick on this method. UK reviews say it fits in seconds and can sit reasonably close on a shaded kitchen window, a bedroom patio door, or a boat, and one reviewer was pleased it was made in their home county. Direct sun is the limit that comes up again and again: reviewers report about 40 °C or about 50 °C when the air was not that hot, and one says the dial is useless unless the window is fully shaded. A transparent or green face is hard to read against a garden, a bright sky, or at night, and some older readers find the scale too small. Sticky pads fail, one parcel arrived with no tabs, and one of two units stayed on a minus reading and cracked when it was taken off the glass. Separate UK claims put individual units about 1.5 °C out, 2 °C low all the time, or 5 °C high at 15 °C.

Pros

  • Maker sheet for 14/419/3: −20 °C to +50 °C, ±2.0 °C at ambient, made in the UK
  • Listing says analogue, and the feature bullets do not name a battery
  • 3.7 from 153 ratings, a larger sample than the multipacks
  • Fits in seconds; shaded-window reviews call the reading reasonably close

Cons

  • Amazon fields say 120 °F and ac, which do not match the maker sheet
  • Direct sun: about 40 °C or about 50 °C when the air was not that hot
  • Clear or green face is hard to read against foliage, a bright sky, or at night
  • Pads fail or were missing from one parcel, and one unit cracked when it was removed

Best for: A shaded outside pane if you want the only published ambient tolerance in this set and you can read a small dial from indoors.

Less suitable: A sun-facing window, older eyes that need large digits, or a minimum and maximum record for overnight highs and lows.

Common questions

Can you read the Brannan thermometer from indoors?

The listing title says it sticks on the window so you can read the outdoor temperature from indoors. The display attribute is analogue.

What range and power does the Amazon listing state?

The upper temperature rating on the listing is 120 degrees Fahrenheit. A full Celsius range is not in the listing fields. The power-source field says ac. The feature bullets do not mention a battery. The maker sheet for 14/419/3 states −20 °C to +50 °C and no cell.

What do UK reviews say about sunlight?

Reviews report about 40 °C or about 50 °C in direct sun when the air was not that hot. They say a shaded window is when the dial stays usable. Pads are also reported missing or failed.

Youshiko YC779 digital window thermometer

Rank 5

Youshiko YC779 digital window thermometer

∼£19

Our view

The Youshiko YC779 is the only digital window thermometer kept in this set, listed at about £18.99, and across 32 amazon.co.uk ratings it scores 3.6, with 17 written UK reviews in the dump. The listing says it shows the current outdoor temperature plus the minimum and the maximum, fixed with self-adhesive film and no drilling, in a 9 × 7 × 2 cm case that weighs 100 g. It takes one AAA cell, and that cell is not in the box. Some buyers find the digits clear from across the room and use the high and low before they walk downstairs from an upstairs window. Other reviews say the display is hard to read in daylight, more than 2 degrees out, or too far out to use, and one unit registered 50 °C and was called faulty. The instructions tell you to press buttons inside a case that has just been screwed shut, the battery door needs a very small screwdriver, and changing the cell means working on the glass or replacing the tape. Rain loosened the adhesive in one review. The reusability attribute says single use, while the same reviews describe battery changes and continued use.

Pros

  • Current outdoor temperature plus minimum and maximum on the listing
  • Self-adhesive film, no drilling, and an English manual in the box
  • Some UK reviews find the digits clear from across the room
  • Compact 9 × 7 × 2 cm case on the outside of the glass

Cons

  • About £18.99, and the AAA cell is not included
  • One unit stuck at 50 °C; other reviews say more than 2 degrees out or unusable
  • Daylight contrast is mixed, and one review calls the display too small
  • Battery changes fight the tape, and rain loosened the adhesive in one review

Best for: A shaded upstairs pane if you want minimum and maximum on the glass and you will buy an AAA cell plus spare film.

Less suitable: A tight budget, a sunlit window, or a household that wants a dial with no cell to change.

Common questions

Does the Youshiko YC779 show minimum and maximum?

The listing says the highest and lowest values are displayed, as well as the current outdoor temperature. It is a digital window thermometer fixed with self-adhesive film.

Is the battery included?

The listing says it is powered by 1 × 1.5 V AAA and that the cell is not included. The dump price is £18.99.

What do UK reviews say about fitting and faults?

Reviews include a unit stuck at 50 °C, adhesive that loosened in the rain, and battery changes that mean opening the case on the glass or replacing the tape. The case size in the listing is 9 × 7 × 2 cm.

SYNKIGY 2-pack window thermometer

Rank 6

SYNKIGY 2-pack window thermometer

Our view

The SYNKIGY listing is two analogue self-adhesive window thermometers at about £6.49, model QJKJ014, and the dump has no customer-review line and no review text. The bullets say a clear glass-style display, a length of 7.5 cm, a weight of 10 g, and a range of 0 °C to 50 °C, so the printed scale does not show temperatures below freezing. Fitting is a press onto a clean, dry, smooth surface, with no tools or drilling, and the bullets name windows, doors, a greenhouse, and a workshop. The attribute table says waterproof, and the bullets claim sunlight, heavy rain, and frost, with no owner report in this dump to confirm or contradict that. A question about whether the pad can be removed and repositioned is only a question, and batteries are not mentioned. At about £6.49 the pair costs more than the Faithfull single, and more per dial than the Jiujuda9 four-pack, without a written buyer record. Until amazon.co.uk reviews exist, the page tells you the listed scale and the fixing method, and nothing about how a dial has behaved on a British window.

Pros

  • Two analogue thermometers, self-adhesive, with no tools or drilling
  • Clear glass-style display stated in the bullets
  • 7.5 cm long and a stated weight of 10 g
  • Indoor and outdoor use is stated on the listing

Cons

  • No review line and no review text in the dump
  • Bullet range starts at 0 °C, so frost is off the scale
  • About £6.49 for two, with no buyer record of the pads or the reading
  • Waterproof and heavy-rain bullets are not backed by reviews here

Best for: A spare pane if you accept a 0 °C to 50 °C scale and you are content to buy before any amazon.co.uk reviews exist.

Less suitable: Anyone who wants owner reports, a scale below freezing, or a published ambient tolerance.

Common questions

What sort of display does the SYNKIGY pack use?

The listing says analogue, with a clear glass-style display. The bullet range is 0 °C to 50 °C and the length is 7.5 cm.

Are there Amazon reviews for this listing?

The dump has no customer-review line and no review text, so a star rating is not available.

How do you fix it, and what does it cost in the dump?

The bullets say to press it onto a clean, dry, smooth surface, with no tools or drilling. Two thermometers are in the pack. The dump price is £6.49.

How we compared

We compared six stick-on window thermometers on amazon.co.uk and scored them from the listing facts in this set. Prices, stars, and review counts are the UK dump dated 15 October 2026. There was no lab test. The four weights below sum to 100. A score here does not name the most accurate window thermometer in the UK.

1

Amazon stars, damped by review count

40%

Star points are the amazon.co.uk rating scaled to 40, then reduced when the review count is small. No review line scores 0 on this part. A count under 10 is damped hard. 200 or more is left at full strength.

2

Listing clarity

25%

Mechanism, range, and power should agree across the attribute table, the bullets, the reviews, and a maker sheet where one exists. A Digital or AC line on a dial loses points. A printed scale is not a tolerance.

3

Price for one outdoor number

20%

Points favour a low dump price for a coat-check on one pane. Minimum and maximum memory is not given extra price credit here.

4

Job fit, minus UK review faults

15%

No cell, a readable dial, and a stated ambient tolerance add points. Pad failure, sun readings, a stuck display, a missing cell, and a scale that starts at 0 °C take points off.

Window thermometer buying guide

A window thermometer only earns its place if the pane is shaded, the mechanism matches what you can see, and the pads will be replaced when they fail. Fitting steps, including a clean outside face, are in [how to fit a window thermometer](/hub/climate-measuring/window-thermometer/sub/window-thermometer-how-to-fit).

What is a window thermometer?

A window thermometer is a small gauge on the glass so you can read the outdoor side from indoors. The job is a coat-or-not number before you leave a kitchen or a flat. It is not a Met Office exposure, and it is not a greenhouse maximum and minimum. The Met Office measures air temperature in a Stevenson screen at 1.25 m, shaded and naturally ventilated. Sun is why a bare thermometer misleads. Keep the case out of direct sun, on the outside face of a pane you can see from indoors.

Best for

  • A shaded kitchen or flat pane, read from indoors
  • Extra windows, a caravan, or a sun lounge
  • Minimum and maximum on the glass, with a spare cell

Not ideal for

  • A sun-facing window, or the indoor face of the glass
  • A greenhouse canopy, a frost certificate, or a heater controller
  • Humidity, a phone alert, or a Met Office exposure

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

    Indoor face or full sun

The gauge belongs on the outside face, out of direct sun. UK reviews report about 40 °C or about 50 °C on a sunlit Brannan when the air was not that hot. Sunlit plastic is not air temperature.

  2. 2

Trusting a Digital attribute on a dial

Faithfull’s table says Digital and AC, and UK reviews describe a dial. Whispern’s attribute and bullets disagree. Read the reviews and the bullets before you expect an LCD or a cell.

  3. 3

Using the pane as the greenhouse thermometer

The RHS puts a max/min among the plants. A stick-on dial reads the glass. Do not treat it as a frost certificate or a heater controller, and do not fit pads on wet or freezing glass.

What to weigh up

Shade and the mechanism you can see

High

Start with the pane, then with what the listing actually is. A window thermometer is for a coat-or-not number you can read from indoors. Direct sun heats the case, so the Met Office point still applies: air temperature is shaded and ventilated, measured in a Stevenson screen at 1.25 m, not on sunlit plastic. UK Brannan reviews are the practical version of that limit, with readings around 40 °C or 50 °C in sun. Then check the mechanism against the attribute table.

Pads, readability, and a number with a condition

High

Pads and film go on clean, dry glass, on the outside face. Faithfull and Brannan reviews report pads failing within a fortnight, after a few months, or after about a year, and the Faithfull box has no spares. One Youshiko review says rain loosened the film, and changing the AAA means working on the glass or replacing the tape. Transparent and green faces are hard to read against foliage and at night.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Kitchen or flat

You want the outside number before a coat or a run, on a pane you can see from indoors. The Faithfull dial is the lowest dump price among listings with at least 100 ratings. Keep spare pads, and keep it out of the sun.

Extra windows or a caravan

You want several cheap dials for extra windows, a caravan, or a sun lounge, and a degree or two is enough. The Jiujuda9 pack is four analogue dials at about £5.99, with 4.3 from 25 ratings.

Min and max on the glass

You want the highest and lowest on an upstairs pane, still kept out of the sun. The Youshiko YC779 is the digital listing at about £18.99. Buy an AAA cell and spare film. The cell is not in the box.

Common questions about window thermometers

Which window thermometer is the top pick in this set?
The top pick for a shaded pane is the Brannan 14/419/3 at about £5.95. The maker sheet for that model states −20 °C to +50 °C and ±2.0 °C at ambient, and the amazon.co.uk line is 3.7 from 153 ratings. The Amazon row still says 120 °F and ac, which do not match that sheet. UK reviews report about 40 °C or about 50 °C in direct sun. It is not a lab result.
How much does a window thermometer cost on amazon.co.uk?
On these six amazon.co.uk shelves the dials run from about £4.31 to £6.49, in the dump dated 15 October 2026. Faithfull is about £4.31, Brannan about £5.95, and the Jiujuda9 four-pack and the Whispern two-pack are about £5.99. SYNKIGY is about £6.49 for two. The only higher price in the set is the Youshiko YC779 at about £18.99. Brannan’s own site lists 14/419/3 at £5.82 including VAT. These bands are this set, not a market census.
Is a window thermometer digital or a dial?
Five listings in this set are bimetal dials and need no battery. Faithfull’s attribute table says Digital and AC, while UK reviews describe a dial. Whispern’s display attribute says Digital and the bullets also say analogue. Jiujuda9 and SYNKIGY are listed as analogue. The Youshiko YC779 is the digital LCD, with minimum and maximum, at about £18.99, and the AAA cell is not in the box. A printed Digital field is not a specification when the reviews describe a dial.
Where should a window thermometer sit?
Keep the case out of direct sun, on the outside face of a pane you can read from indoors. Sunlit plastic is not air temperature. The Met Office measures shaded, ventilated air in a Stevenson screen at 1.25 m. UK Brannan reviews report about 40 °C or about 50 °C in direct sun. Placement is covered in where to site an outdoor thermometer. Do not lean out of an upstairs window.
Do the sticky pads last in British weather?
UK reviews of Faithfull and Brannan report pads failing within a fortnight, after a few months, or after about a year. The Faithfull box has no spare pads, and a fall can break the dial. One Brannan unit cracked when it was taken off the glass. Jiujuda9’s UK reviews in this dump do not repeat a pad failure. Do not fit pads on wet or freezing glass. These listings do not prove a long life in British weather.
Can I use a window thermometer in a greenhouse?
A pane dial is the wrong sensor for a greenhouse. The RHS says a maximum and minimum thermometer belongs among the plants. Plant damage is described when heat builds, typically above 27 °C. A window gauge reads the glass, not the canopy. Do not treat a reading as a frost certificate or a heater controller. A kitchen coat-or-not number is the job these dials can do.
Are these mercury thermometers?
No. The six listings kept here are plastic dials or a battery LCD. Mercury thermometers must not be placed on the Great Britain market unless an exemption applies, under the GOV.UK controls on mercury-added products. A broken old mercury thermometer is hazardous waste. Do not vacuum the droplets. For a spill bigger than a small household break, use the local authority. None of these products uses a BS 1363 plug.
What if the window thermometer is faulty on arrival?
The Consumer Rights Act 2015, section 22, gives a short-term right to reject that ordinarily lasts 30 days. That covers a dead-on-arrival unit, such as a Youshiko that stayed at 50 °C. A dial that reads high only in sun is a siting limit, not automatically a defect. Changing the Youshiko AAA means opening the case on the glass or replacing the tape.

Our verdict

Across these six amazon.co.uk listings, the top pick for a shaded pane is the Brannan 14/419/3: about £5.95, 3.7 from 153 ratings, and a maker sheet of −20 °C to +50 °C, ±2.0 °C at ambient. The Amazon row still says 120 °F and ac, and UK reviews report about 40 °C or about 50 °C in direct sun. The best value is the Faithfull FAITHWINDOW at about £4.31, 3.9 from 684 ratings, the lowest dump price among listings with at least 100 ratings. Its attribute table says Digital and AC while UK reviews describe a dial, and the pads fail.
