Water distributor comparison 2026

The best water distributors, compared.

Top pick: HugWaFlw green 2-way – Claimed C38500 brass, about £26.99, 4.8 from 104 reviews, and a UK review that calls the valves full-bore. Not frost-proof, and tight beside a drain. Best value: GRIFEMA GE1401-2 – About £9.99, with G 3/4 and G 1/2 named and 4.1 from 3,082 reviews. UK reviews describe frost splits if it is left full of water. Updated 17.10.2026.

Peter F.Editor

Most UK buyers put it on an outdoor tap so two hoses can run, or so a timer and a hose can share the bib. The usual domestic outside tap is 3/4 inch BSP, about 26.4 mm across the thread, also sold as G 3/4 or 26.5 mm. Each outlet should shut on its own if you will not walk back to the house tap, and the body has to be drained before a frost. A sequential six-way and a household pipe tee are different objects. Thread, valves and box contents are set out in the [water distributor buying guide](/hub/hot-water/water-distributor/sub/water-distributor-buying-guide). A water distributor on amazon.co.uk, in this category, is a fitting that splits one water source into more than one outlet. Quality is a valved body on the right thread.

The best water distributors in detail

HugWaFlw green 2-way

Rank 1

HugWaFlw green 2-way

∼£27

Our view

The green HugWaFlw runs two hoses together from a matching 3/4-inch tap, with a separate ball valve for each outlet. One UK reviewer described the valves as full-bore and saw no obvious loss of flow, which is useful evidence for a two-hose setup rather than a laboratory flow test. The claimed C38500 brass body feels substantial according to UK feedback, and the listing has 4.8 stars from 104 amazon.co.uk reviews. Its £26.99 price is relatively high for two outlets, but it buys a heavier body rather than a basic zinc-and-plastic splitter. Clearance matters: one UK buyer returned it because a nearby drain pipe left too little room. It is also not marked frost-proof, and trapped water can split even a brass body, so remove and drain it before freezing weather.

Pros

  • UK reviews describe a heavy body and no leaks
  • One UK review names full-bore valves
  • Same shelf price as the black ASIN

Cons

  • One UK buyer returned it because a drain pipe was too close
  • Bore is stated in inches here and in millimetres on the black listing
  • Not marked frost-proof

Best for: A heavy 2-way on a 3/4 inch tap, drained before frost

Less suitable: A tight gap beside a drain, or six zones in sequence

Common questions

Is the green HugWaFlw the same listing as the black one?

No. This ASIN is B0G4VSNZN1, model BENSE-GREEN-T2. The black one is a different ASIN at the same £26.99.

What did a UK reviewer say about the valves?

One United Kingdom review says the valves are full-bore rather than a small-bore type, with no loss of flow they could see.

Does the listing say it survives frost?

No frost-protection line is in the extract. A UK reviewer says a full body will split if the water freezes.

Flintronic 2-way brass

Rank 2

Flintronic 2-way brass

∼£19

Our view

The Flintronic splits one tap into two controlled outlets and arrives with the small fitting parts many rivals leave unclear. Its listing names a 3/4-inch inlet, a 1/2-inch conversion adaptor, two connectors, three washers and PTFE tape, so it is a convenient starting kit for £18.99. The brass body and 550 g weight suggest a substantial fitting, although the same listing also describes part of the valve as plastic. It holds 4.6 stars from 121 amazon.co.uk reviews, and UK feedback generally regards it as solid once the joint is properly sealed. One buyer nevertheless received a refund because of a leak, and another found that a click-on adaptor would not stay attached. Fit the washer before reaching for the tape, and regard the hot-and-cold wording as a listing claim rather than approval for permanent hot-water plumbing.

Pros

  • Adaptor, washers, and tape are listed
  • UK reviews call it solid when the joint is sealed
  • Brass body is named

Cons

  • Valve also described as plastic
  • Handle count on the spec line is 1
  • One UK leak refund and one adaptor that would not click

Best for: A 2-way with the small parts in the box

Less suitable: A hot-water cylinder branch. Hot-and-cold is only a bullet

Common questions

What does Flintronic put in the box?

The bullet lists the 2-way valve, two connectors, an adapter, three rubber washers, and PTFE tape.

Which taps does it name?

A 3/4 inch thread, and a conversion head for most 3/4 inch and 1/2 inch faucets.

What did UK reviews say about fitting?

One used PTFE and found it fiddly. One click-on adaptor would not stay on the hose. One buyer was refunded because it leaked.

HugWaFlw black 2-way

Rank 3

HugWaFlw black 2-way

∼£27

Our view

The HugWaFlw black 2-way divides one matching 3/4-inch tap into two independently controlled outlets, using the ball valves named in the listing. Its claimed 15.24 mm bore and long metal handles should make it easier to regulate than a small plastic Y-piece, although those figures are manufacturer claims rather than independent measurements. The C38500 brass body is substantial, with a package weight of 550 g. Its 4.6-star rating comes from 52 amazon.co.uk reviews, so the result is encouraging but based on a smaller pool than several alternatives here. A UK reviewer found it easy to use, while a French review reported that a hose-end connector was missing. The listing's broad reference to European taps does not prove compatibility with every UK outside tap, so measure the thread before ordering.

Pros

  • Listing states two outlets and ball valves
  • Brass grade C38500 is named
  • UK review in the extract praises ease of use

Cons

  • European-tap wording is not a measured 1/2 inch BSP fit
  • Hose-end connector missing in a France review
  • Manufacturer pressure and torque lines are not an independent test

Best for: Two hoses on a 3/4 inch European tap, if the thread matches

Less suitable: A sequential six-zone layout, or a pipe tee

Common questions

Does the HugWaFlw black 2-way say it fits without tools?

The bullet says the hexagonal inlet goes on in seconds without tools, on taps it calls standard European taps.

What are the valves?

The listing says a ball valve on the outlets, with a long metal handle. A bore of 15.24 mm is also claimed.

Are the reviews mostly from the UK?

The extract has 22 review texts and one United Kingdom label. The 4.6 from 52 is the listing total.

Bächlein 3-way

Rank 4

Bächlein 3-way

∼£29

Our view

The Bächlein provides three G 3/4 outlets at once, each with its own ball valve, which suits a tap serving three hoses or appliances. Its listing names CW617N brass, BSP threads and a 570 g weight, making it one of the heavier conventional manifolds in the set. The 4.5-star rating comes from 92 amazon.co.uk reviews, although only two UK-labelled texts were present in the extract and both were brief. Reviews from elsewhere mention an O-ring that needed to be thicker and a small pinhole near a weld, so the seal still deserves checking on first use. At £28.95 it costs more than the two-way brass alternatives but adds a third independently controlled outlet. The listing claims drinking-water-certified seals without giving a WRAS number, so do not use that wording as proof of UK potable-water approval.

Pros

  • Three independent valves
  • BSP and G 3/4 are both named
  • UK texts in the extract are positive, though only two

Cons

  • No WRAS number beside the drinking-water claim
  • O-ring thickness and a weld pinhole appear outside the UK texts
  • Dearest brass Y in this set

Best for: Three hoses or appliances on a G 3/4 connection

Less suitable: Drinking-water plumbing without a checked approval

Common questions

How many outlets does the Bächlein have?

Three, each with a shut-off ball valve. The size line says G 3/4 inch.

Does the listing show a WRAS number?

No. It claims CW617N brass and drinking-water certified seals. That is not a WRAS number.

What seal issue shows up in reviews?

A Netherlands review needed a thicker O-ring to fit the tap. A Belgium review reported a small hole from a weld. Two UK texts only say the quality was good.

Gardena 8194-20

Rank 5

Gardena 8194-20

∼£33

Our view

The Gardena 8194-20 supplies four outlets at once, each of which can be regulated or shut independently. Its 4.4-star rating is supported by 7,602 amazon.co.uk reviews, the largest review count in this comparison, and many UK buyers use it to replace a leaking multi-way fitting. At £33.24 it is a system-style option rather than a budget splitter, and timers can be connected to individual outlets. The body hangs from the tap because no wall bracket is named in the box; UK reviewers specifically criticise that omission. Its material data are contradictory, with the listing saying brass while reviewers describe plastic. UK feedback also reports seals or bodies failing after winter, including one incident around -6°C, so take it indoors before frost.

Pros

  • Four regulated outlets
  • Largest review count in this set, UK-labelled texts
  • UK reviews often bought it to replace a leaking multi-way

Cons

  • Material line says brass while reviewers describe plastic
  • No bracket in the box
  • UK frost failures, and the listing warranty line says 0 months

Best for: Four Gardena outlets on one tap, taken in before frost

Less suitable: Six zones one after another, or a permanent outdoor leave-on

Common questions

Does the Gardena 8194-20 water four lines at once?

Yes. The listing says up to four devices, and each outlet can be regulated or switched off. It is not the sequential 1197.

Is a wall bracket included?

Not in the included-components line. United Kingdom reviews say the body hangs on the tap and the bracket is missing.

What do UK reviews say about frost?

One describes a failure at about -6°C. Another says side seals split after winter even when the unit was covered.

sundrerfect 1/2 inch tee

Rank 6

sundrerfect 1/2 inch tee

Our view

The sundrerfect is a 1/2-inch three-way pipe tee, not a valved garden-tap distributor. Its £5.98 pack includes six 20 mm seals and PTFE tape, and the listing claims a stainless-steel body suitable for hot water. The specification names NPT threads, however, which does not confirm a fit with 3/4-inch BSP taps or common 15 mm UK compression plumbing. Its 4.4-star rating comes from only 43 amazon.co.uk reviews. More importantly, the UK review in the extract reported rust and metal swarf inside the fitting, directly conflicting with the polished stainless presentation. Use it only for a verified 1/2-inch NPT joint, and have drinking-water or hot-water suitability checked rather than relying on the DVGW wording without a WRAS number.

Pros

  • Seals and PTFE are listed
  • Hand-tight union nut is claimed
  • Low shelf price at £5.98

Cons

  • NPT on the spec line
  • DVGW is not a WRAS number
  • UK review reports rust and swarf

Best for: A checked 1/2 inch NPT joint, not a UK outside tap

Less suitable: A 3/4 BSP garden tap, or a hot branch you have not had checked

Common questions

Is this a garden tap splitter?

No. It is a 1/2 inch tee for pipes. The title mentions drinking water, a shower, and heating.

What thread does the spec table name?

NPT. That is not a confirmation it fits 3/4 BSP or 15 mm UK compression.

What did the UK review say?

The United Kingdom review says the inside was rusty and full of metal shavings, not the stainless look that was advertised.

RUCUDIM 2-way

Rank 7

RUCUDIM 2-way

∼£16

Our view

The RUCUDIM supplies two independently valved outlets from a 3/4-inch female inlet, with a 1/2-inch adaptor mentioned in the title. At 530 g, its claimed nickel-plated brass body is much heavier than the lightest four-way products in this comparison. The 4.2-star rating from 175 amazon.co.uk reviews is respectable, and some UK reviewers call the unit solid when it seals correctly. However, one UK buyer reported that the body split along a seam outdoors, while another saw a leak after only a few uses. The listing also contains placeholder-like model and box-content fields, which makes it harder to know exactly what arrives. Choose it only if the thread and adaptor suit your tap, and do not read the brass claim as frost protection.

Pros

  • Ball valves and a 3/4 inch inlet are named
  • UK reviews call it solid when it holds
  • 530 g, heavier than the GRIFEMA

Cons

  • UK review: split on a seam outdoors
  • UK review: leaked after a few uses
  • Model and contents fields are placeholders

Best for: A brass 2-way if you accept a mixed outdoor record

Less suitable: Anyone who needs a clear contents list or a frost claim

Common questions

Yes. The bullet says nickel-plated brass, with a ball valve for each outlet.

Does a UK review agree it is for outdoor use?

The listing says indoor and outdoor. One United Kingdom review says it split along a seam outdoors and was not fit for outside.

What is in the box?

The included-components field says 00 cm, so the extract does not give a real contents list.

Gardena 1197-20 automatic

Rank 8

Gardena 1197-20 automatic

∼£74

Our view

The Gardena 1197-20 serves up to six watering zones one after another, rather than feeding several hoses simultaneously. It works mechanically as water pressure switches off and on, but unattended operation requires a separate compatible water control that is not included in the £74.45 price. The box does list five tap connectors and three end caps, and unused stations can be closed with levers. Its 4.1-star rating comes from 3,573 amazon.co.uk reviews, giving it a broad evidence base for a specialist product. UK reviews repeatedly mention missed steps, two outlets opening together or a valve failing to close, so the sequence should be checked before relying on it. Choose it for ordered irrigation zones that one supply cannot run together, not for two hoses you want to use at the same time.

Pros

  • Matches a garden that cannot feed every zone at once
  • Connectors and end caps are listed
  • No battery in the distributor itself

Cons

  • Useless for unattended zones without a separate timer
  • UK reviews of unreliable stepping
  • Dearest listing in the set, before the timer

Best for: Sequenced zones from one tap, with a water control

Less suitable: Two hoses at the same time this afternoon

Common questions

Does the Gardena automatic include a timer?

No. The listing says a MasterControl water computer is not included. UK reviews say the inlet has to switch off and on before the next outlet opens.

Can all six outlets run together?

No. UK reviews describe one outlet at a time, stepping when pressure drops. Unused outlets are shut with a lever.

What failures do UK reviews repeat?

Missed steps, more than one outlet open, a valve that will not close, and a stiff station button underneath.

GRIFEMA GE1401-2

Rank 9

GRIFEMA GE1401-2

∼£10

Our view

The GRIFEMA GE1401-2 gives you two separately controlled outlets for £9.99 and explicitly names both G 3/4 and G 1/2 tap sizes. That makes it easier to match than listings that merely say they fit standard or European taps. Its 4.1-star rating is backed by 3,082 amazon.co.uk reviews, the largest evidence base among the inexpensive two-way options here. UK buyers report that the joint may need the supplied spare washer or firmer hand tightening to stop a weep. More seriously, several UK reviews describe the body splitting after water froze inside it. The material description is inconsistent, naming zinc alloy and ABS in one place and aluminium in another, so do not treat it as a brass manifold. It is a practical best-value option if you remove, drain and store it before frost.

Pros

  • States both common UK outdoor thread sizes
  • Two knobs so one hose can be shut
  • Large United Kingdom review count

Cons

  • Material lines disagree: zinc alloy and ABS, and aluminium
  • UK reviews of frost splits
  • Washer and tightness come up as leak causes

Best for: A light 2-way you will take off before frost

Less suitable: Leaving it charged with water through a freeze

Common questions

Which tap sizes does the GRIFEMA name?

The bullet says 26.5 mm (G 3/4 inch) and 21 mm (G 1/2 inch) taps.

What did UK reviews say about leaks at the tap?

One United Kingdom review leaked until the extra washer was added. Another needed grips to tighten it.

What happens if it is left out in a freeze?

Several United Kingdom reviews say the body burst or split when it was left full of water over winter.

Ruayia 4-way

Rank 10

Ruayia 4-way

∼£10

Our view

The Ruayia places four individually valved outlets on one garden tap for £9.99, making it the cheapest route here to four simultaneous connections. Its 210 g body is light, but the listing says only metal and does not name the alloy. The 4.1-star rating comes from 83 amazon.co.uk reviews, yet none of the 50 review texts in the extract was UK-labelled. Feedback from other countries repeatedly mentions leaks, glued joints failing and bodies bursting within a month, so the low price carries a clear durability risk. Compatibility is also uncertain because the specification says metric tapered while the sales copy only says standard taps. Buy it only after confirming the thread, and avoid leaving it pressurised or outdoors through winter.

Pros

  • Four separate valves at £9.99
  • Light, at 210 g
  • All four outlets can be used together, according to the listing

Cons

  • Thread is not confirmed as 3/4 BSP
  • Non-UK reviews describe bursts, glue failure, and leaks within a month
  • No UK-labelled review text in the extract

Best for: A cheap 4-way only if the thread matches your tap

Less suitable: A tap you have not measured, or a fitting you will leave out all winter

Common questions

Can all four Ruayia outlets run at once?

The listing says four devices at once. An Italy review says you need decent inlet pressure if all four are open.

No. The spec line says metric tapered. The bullet only says standard taps.

Are there United Kingdom reviews in the extract?

No. The 50 texts read are from other countries. The 4.1 from 83 is still the amazon.co.uk listing total.

LEOUEANR 6-pack Y

Rank 11

LEOUEANR 6-pack Y

Our view

The LEOUEANR pack gives you six simple three-way Y pieces for £7.99, each intended for a ribbed 1/2-inch quick connection. These are open ABS splitters rather than a screw-on, valved manifold, so all branches share the flow and there is no stated shut-off at each outlet. The pack may be useful for building or repairing a low-cost hose layout when the hose and barb dimensions already match. It is not described as fitting a 3/4-inch BSP outside tap, and no adaptor is confirmed in the extract. There is also no amazon.co.uk star line or review text available, leaving durability and fit without buyer evidence. Treat the six-pack as spare hose hardware, not as a direct alternative to a two-way garden-tap splitter.

Pros

  • Six pieces for £7.99
  • Plain 3-way split if a barb hose is what you have
  • ABS construction keeps each piece light

Cons

  • No valve
  • Not described as a 3/4 BSP tap fitting
  • No reviews in the extract

Best for: Spare ribbed Y pieces on hoses that match

Common questions

Do these Y pieces have their own taps?

The extract does not describe a shut-off. They are ribbed 3-way splitters.

Will they screw onto a 3/4 BSP outside tap?

The thread line says 1/2 inch quick connect, not 3/4 BSP. A tap fit is not stated.

What is the star rating?

The extract has no customer-review line and no review text, so the rating is n/a.

How we compared

Eleven amazon.co.uk listings are set side by side. Card scores follow the listing star average times 20, then divided by 10 for the 1–10 scale. A listing with no star line scores at the bottom of that scale. There is no laboratory flow test. The top pick and the best value are the comparison awards already on the green HugWaFlw and the GRIFEMA, not a new ranking. The weights below are the buying checks, in the order a UK tap fitting actually fails.

1

Thread match

30%

The usual UK outside tap is 3/4 inch BSP. A 1/2 inch BSP tap needs an adaptor. NPT, US garden-hose thread and an unmeasured “standard tap” line do not confirm a seal.

2

Together or in sequence

20%

Valved two-way, three-way and four-way fittings share the open outlets. The Gardena 1197-20 runs one zone, then the next, and only when the inlet is switched.

3

Shut-off on each outlet

20%

A valve, knob or lever on each outlet you care about means you need not walk back to the house tap. A ribbed Y only splits flow.

4

Material as stated

15%

Brass, zinc alloy, ABS and unnamed metal are kept as the listing prints them, including clashes. Brass still splits if it is full of ice.

5

What is in the box

15%

Washers, a 1/2 inch adaptor and PTFE tape change the first fit. The sequential unit still needs a water control that is not in its box.

Water distributor buying guide

Match the thread, then decide whether the outlets run together or one after another. A valve on each outlet you care about matters more than a heavy adjective. Brass lasts longer than a light zinc or plastic body in ordinary hose use, and it still splits if it is full of ice. Washers, a 1/2 inch adaptor and, for the automatic, a separate water control have to be in the plan before the price looks cheap. None of these extracts showed a WRAS number, and none of the listings is frost-proof.

What is a water distributor?

A water distributor on amazon.co.uk, in this category, is a fitting that splits one water source into more than one outlet. UK buyers mostly put it on an outdoor tap so two or more hoses can run, or so a timer and a hose can share the bib. Quality is a valved body on the right thread. The usual domestic tap is 3/4 inch BSP, about 26.4 mm across, also sold as G 3/4 or 26.5 mm. Each outlet you care about should shut on its own, and the body has to be drained before a frost.

Best for

  • One outside tap shared by a hose and a sprinkler
  • Sequenced garden zones, with a separate water control

Not ideal for

  • A tee on a rising main, an unvented cylinder or sealed heating
  • Leaving any splitter charged with water through a frost

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

Reading six as six hoses at once

The Gardena 1197-20 feeds up to six zones one after another. UK reviews describe one outlet at a time. It is the wrong box if you want two hoses this afternoon.

  2. 2

Ordering 1 inch because it looks about an inch across

The usual domestic outside tap is 3/4 inch BSP, about 26.4 mm across the thread. Half-inch BSP is the smaller older size and needs an adaptor. Measure, then match the listing.

  3. 3

Leaving the body full of water in a frost

No listing here is frost-proof. UK reviews describe splits on the GRIFEMA, the RUCUDIM and the Gardena 8194-20, and a UK note on the green HugWaFlw says a full body will split if the water freezes. Drain it and store it.

What to weigh up

Thread

High

Match the tap before you compare the price. Hozelock’s guide puts the common UK outdoor thread at 3/4 inch BSP, about 26.44 mm across, with 1/2 inch BSP at about 20.99 mm. Listings also sell that larger size as G 3/4 or 26.5 mm. The GRIFEMA bullet names both 26.5 mm (G 3/4) and 21 mm (G 1/2). Several others only say European taps, standard taps, or a 3/4 inch inlet. That is not a measured fit on your bib.

Flow and shut-off

High

Decide whether the outlets run together or one after another. A two-way, three-way or four-way with a valve on each outlet runs the open outlets at the same time and shares the pressure. The HugWaFlw, GRIFEMA, RUCUDIM, Flintronic, Bächlein, Ruayia and Gardena 8194-20 are in that group. A ribbed plastic Y, such as the LEOUEANR six-pack, only splits flow. The extract does not describe a shut-off, and the thread line says 1/2 inch quick connect, not 3/4 inch BSP.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Two hoses on one tap

You want both hoses at once from a matching 3/4 inch tap, and you would rather have a heavy brass body than the cheapest splitter. The green HugWaFlw is about £26.99, with 4.8 from 104 reviews. One UK review calls the valves full-bore. Drain it before a frost, and check the gap beside a drain pipe.

A two-way you will store

You want both common outdoor sizes named, and you will take the fitting off before frost. The GRIFEMA GE1401-2 is about £9.99 and states G 3/4 and G 1/2. It has 4.1 from 3,082 reviews. UK reviews mention a spare washer, tighter fitting, and bodies that split when left full of water.

Zones one after another

One supply cannot feed every bed at once, so you want outlets in sequence, not two hoses this afternoon. The Gardena 1197-20 is about £74.45, plastic, with 4.1 from 3,573 reviews. The water control is not in the box, and UK reviews report missed steps.

Common questions about water distributors

What does a water distributor do?
A water distributor splits one water source into more than one outlet. On amazon.co.uk, in this set, that is usually a valved body on an outdoor tap so two or more hoses can run, or so a timer and a hose can share the bib. A ribbed plastic Y only splits flow and has no shut-off. The Gardena 1197-20 is different again: it feeds zones one after another. A household pipe tee is a third object, and an electric jug is not a distributor.
Which thread fits a UK outside tap?
Hozelock’s tap guide puts the common UK outdoor thread at 3/4 inch BSP, about 26.44 mm across the thread. Half-inch BSP is about 20.99 mm and needs an adaptor. Do not force a US garden-hose thread, or a fitting marked only NPT, onto that tap. BSP and NPT can share a pitch at 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch and still not seal, because the thread form differs. Measure the tap before you order a listing that only says standard or European.
Can every outlet run at the same time?
A two-way, three-way or four-way with valves runs the open outlets together and shares the pressure. The Gardena 8194-20 is that kind of four-channel fitting. The Gardena 1197-20 is not. UK reviews describe one outlet at a time, stepping when the inlet switches off and on. Reading six on that box as six hoses at once is the wrong object. If one supply cannot feed every zone together, you want the sequential unit, and you still need a separate water control.
Does the Gardena automatic include a timer?
No. The Gardena 1197-20 listing says a MasterControl water computer is not included. The distributor itself is mechanical and has no battery. Unused outlets are shut with a lever. For unattended zones the inlet has to be switched by a separate water control, which is not in the £74.45 price. It is the dearest listing in this set before that extra unit. It does not run six hoses at the same time.
Will a brass water distributor survive frost?
No listing in this set is frost-proof. Brass is the longer-lived body in ordinary hose use, and it still splits if it is full of ice. A UK review of the green HugWaFlw says a full body will split if the water freezes. GRIFEMA and Gardena 8194-20 reviews also describe splits after winter, including one Gardena failure at about -6°C. The Gardena four-channel page says frost protection no. Drain the fitting and store it indoors before a freeze.
Is a pipe tee or a jug the same as a garden splitter?
No. The sundrerfect listing is a 1/2 inch three-way pipe tee, with NPT on the spec line, six 20 mm seals and PTFE tape, at about £5.98. That does not confirm 3/4 inch BSP. One UK review reported rust and swarf inside. A tee on a rising main, an unvented cylinder or sealed heating is plumber work. An electric jug pump is a different product. If that is what you searched for, use the water dispenser comparison.
Does a splitter make watering legal in a hosepipe ban?
No. Temporary bans sit in the Water Industry Act 1991 as amended in 2010. Thames Water’s notice from 23 July 2026 still treated sprinklers and irrigation gadgets as hosepipe uses, with a narrow drip exemption. A splitter does not create an exemption. A hose union tap also needs backflow protection. Ordinary garden watering is typically fluid category 3, with a double check valve indoors, because outdoor check valves freeze. The splitter is not that valve.
How much does a water distributor cost?
Shelf prices in these extracts, not a live crawl: under £10 for the tee, the six-pack, the GRIFEMA and the Ruayia; about £16 to £29 for the RUCUDIM, the Flintronic, both HugWaFlw colours and the Bächlein; £33.24 for the Gardena four-channel; £74.45 for the Gardena automatic before its water control. A rule of thumb from this shelf only: a valved brass two-way sat in the mid band. Stars are amazon.co.uk totals, not a lab score.

Our verdict

The green HugWaFlw is the top pick for a heavy two-way on a matching 3/4 inch tap: claimed C38500 brass, about £26.99, 4.8 from 104 reviews, and a UK review that calls the valves full-bore. It is not marked frost-proof, and one buyer returned it because a drain pipe was too close. The GRIFEMA GE1401-2 is the best value at about £9.99 because it names both G 3/4 and G 1/2 and has 4.1 from 3,082 reviews, if you remove and drain it before frost. The Gardena 1197-20 is only for zones in sequence, and only with a water control that is not in the box.
