A wall safe in UK shops is either a steel cabinet you bolt to a wall, or a shallow body you set into the wall. Households buy one for passports, a little cash, A4 papers or jewellery. Judge it by the wall, and by a certificate only if an insurer must cover a stated sum. The litre figure does not tell you the shape. "Wall mount" on a deep cabinet means bolted on, not buried. Only the 7725 is sold for the gap between studs. The [in-wall or surface guide](/hub/safes-and-secure-storage/wall-safe/sub/wall-safe-in-wall-or-surface) separates those two shapes. A certified Grade 0 body is not among these 11 listings. Scores use stars, review volume, listing clarity, the stated job and the price. They are not an attack test or a fire test. It does not mean the box is buried in the plaster. Brick or block can take a surface cabinet once you have checked for pipes and cables. A stud wall needs a body that fits the clear gap and screws into the studs.

A wall safe in UK shops is either a steel cabinet you bolt to a wall, or a shallow body you set into the wall. Households buy one for passports, a little cash, A4 papers or jewellery.

The best wall safes in detail

Amazon Basics 14 L safe

Rank 1

Amazon Basics 14 L safe

∼£58

Our view

The Amazon Basics 25EI is a 14 litre, 8.3 kg electronic cabinet at £57.96, with 4.5 from 29,991 amazon.co.uk reviews, the largest count in this set. The bullet gives a touchpad, three indicator lights, two override keys, and four expansion bolts for a wall, floor or shelf. Batteries are four AA and are not included. The alarm attribute says no alarm. UK reviews mention a wardrobe hide, a solid feel against a thinner box, and a pre-drilled back and base. They also mention soft rawlplugs and a locked door that sat slightly proud until one reviewer added tape. No fire standard and no carpet are confirmed in the bullets. It bolts to a wall. It is not a recessed wall safe.

Pros

  • 4.5 from 29,991 reviews
  • Two override keys in the bullet
  • Bolts for wall, floor or shelf
  • 14 litres at £57.96

Cons

  • Batteries not included
  • No alarm on the attribute
  • Door gap when locked, in one review
  • No fire standard, and not an in-wall body

Best for: Documents and small valuables bolted to masonry, a floor or a shelf

Less suitable: A stud-bay hide, a monitored alarm, or a stated fire certificate

Common questions

Can you fix it to a wall?

The mounting attribute says wall, floor or shelf. The bullet includes four expansion bolts. One reviewer calls the rawlplugs a poor design; another calls the bolts substantial.

What happens when the batteries die?

The bullet says two keys are included for a forgotten code or dead batteries. Four AA batteries are not included.

Is it fireproof?

The page asks. The bullets do not name a fire standard.

Yale YSV/170/DB2

Rank 2

Yale YSV/170/DB2

∼£25

Our view

The Yale YSV/170/DB2 is the mini in this pair: 4.2 litres, 2.3 kg, 19 x 20.5 x 24.5 cm, £24.99. The mounting attribute says wall mount. The bullet gives a 3 to 8 digit PIN or a key, two keys, and a lockdown of 20 seconds after three wrong PINs, then five minutes after three more. The listing line is 4.5 from 5,117 reviews, the same count as the small Yale, and the review text in the file is the small safe’s text. Mini-specific praise and faults are not in the file. No fire standard is named. At 19 cm deep it is a surface box.

Pros

  • £24.99
  • Two keys and a PIN in the bullet
  • Wrong-code lockdown described
  • Wall-mount attribute

Cons

  • Review text is the small Yale’s dump
  • 4.2 litres
  • Batteries not confirmed in the bullets
  • No fire standard

Best for: A very small wall-bolted box for cards or a little cash, if the shared review count is not your evidence

Less suitable: Passports in bulk, A4 paper, or anyone reading the 5,117 reviews as mini-only

Common questions

Is there a backup key?

The bullet says you can open it with a 3 to 8 digit PIN or the key, and that two keys are supplied.

Will the written reviews on the file tell you about this mini?

The UK review text matches the small Yale file and a title names YSV/200/DB2. The 5,117 count is the same on both listing lines. Those sentences are not used as mini-specific comments.

Is it fireproof?

The page asks. The bullets say standard security and do not name a fire standard.

Yale YSV/200/DB2

Rank 3

Yale YSV/200/DB2

∼£30

Our view

The Yale YSV/200/DB2 is an 8.6 litre, 3.6 kg cabinet at £30.43. The listing line is 4.5 from 5,117 reviews. The same count, and a byte-identical review dump, also sits on the mini Yale file, and the titles in that dump name this small safe, so the written comments are used here. Reviewers use it for passports and small valuables, bolt it to a wall, and mention two keys and batteries in the box. The same texts include a keypad that would not open, a logo cover that would not slide, weak supplied batteries, and a soft screw head. The lock attribute says Key while the title says a digital keypad and an override key. The alarm attribute is not English. No fire standard is named. It is a surface box with floor or wall holes, not an in-wall safe.

Pros

  • £30.43 for a PIN safe with an override key
  • 8.6 litres, used for passports in reviews
  • Floor or wall mounting on the attribute
  • 4.5 from 5,117 on the listing line

Cons

  • Review count is shared with the mini listing line
  • Keypad or battery failures in the dump
  • Override cover did not slide for one reviewer
  • No fire standard

Best for: Passports and small valuables on a solid wall, if you keep the override key elsewhere

Less suitable: A4 paper, jewellery an insurer must rate, or a stud bay

Common questions

Can you bolt it to a wall?

The mounting attribute says floor or wall. Reviews mention screws and plugs, and one screw head that stripped unless a 10 mm socket was used.

What if the keypad will not open?

The title includes an emergency override key. Reviews say two keys come with it. One reviewer could not slide the logo to reach the keyhole and prised it.

Is it fireproof?

The page asks the question. The bullets do not name a fire standard.

Bonsaii 6.6 L key safe

Rank 4

Bonsaii 6.6 L key safe

∼£19

Our view

The Bonsaii SF004 is a 6.6 litre key box at £18.69, 2.04 kg, with 4.5 from 651 reviews. The bullet says SPCC steel, a flat key, two keys that must not be locked inside, concealed hinges, and two holes on the back and the base with two expansion bolts. It also says the box is not for A4 paper. The box list adds a floor mat and a manual. One review says three keys. Short UK reviews call it enough for a passport or a small pile of papers and fine as a basic hide, including with a chain through the holes. One review says the lock quality could be better. There is no second opening method if the key is lost. The colour attribute is spelled Balck.

Pros

  • £18.69
  • Two fixing holes and two bolts
  • 4.5 from 651 reviews
  • Small enough to hide

Cons

  • Key only
  • Bullet excludes A4
  • Lock called basic in a review
  • No fire standard in the bullets

Best for: A cheap bolted hide for a few small items that are not A4

Less suitable: Documents, a forgotten-key fallback, or anything you would describe as fire rated

Can you fix it to a wall?

The bullet says two pre-drilled holes on the back and on the bottom, for a shelf, wall or floor, with two expansion bolts.

Is it fireproof?

The page asks. The bullets do not name a fire standard. One short review uses the word fireproof without a standard.

WASJOYE 67 L key safe

Rank 5

WASJOYE 67 L key safe

∼£87

Our view

The WASJOYE 63kc is a 67 litre, 17 kg carbon-steel key cabinet at £87.49, with 4.4 from 98 reviews. The attribute size is 37 cm deep, 31 cm wide and 62.5 cm high, which lines up with the title’s 62.5 x 37 x 31 cm if height is the long side. The bullet gives four holes on the back and four on the base. The alarm attribute says visual. Twelve UK texts praise the space for a laptop, folders or medication, and one prefers the back panel. The same set includes a lock picked in about two minutes, a door that arrived with a loose screw, a front called thinner than the back, and shelves that block anything deeper than the shelf. No fire standard is named. A manual is asked on the page and not confirmed.

Pros

  • 67 litres at £87.49
  • Holes for wall, floor or shelf
  • 4.4 from 98 reviews
  • Room for a laptop in reviews

Cons

  • Key only, and one review reports a quick pick
  • Door screw loose on arrival
  • Front called thin
  • No fire standard

Best for: Bulk storage of low-value items, bolted down, where a key is acceptable

Less suitable: Cash or jewellery you cannot afford to lose to a picked lock

Paragon 7725 wall safe

Rank 6

Paragon 7725 wall safe

∼£126

Our view

The Paragon 7725 is the only listing in this set sold as a flat wall safe for a stud bay, at £126.49, with 4.3 from 3,811 amazon.co.uk reviews. The attribute size is 10.2 cm deep, 41.9 cm wide and 55.9 cm high, and the capacity line is 0.83 cubic feet. A bullet gives the same body in inches and says four AA batteries and two override keys are included. One UK fitting note describes it screwed through the back of a cupboard. The written UK sample is seven reviews. One says the middle shelf is taken by the lock, so only the top and bottom are useful, and one title says the sizes are US rather than UK. The special-features line also says Portable, which fights the between-studs bullet. No fire standard is named.

Pros

  • Sold for mounting between studs, with anchor bolts
  • Two override keys and four AA batteries in the bullet
  • 4.3 from 3,811 reviews
  • Audible alarm after repeated wrong codes

Cons

  • Middle shelf lost to the lock body, in a review
  • Inch sizes in the bullet, flagged by a UK reviewer
  • Only seven UK texts in the file
  • No fire standard named

Best for: A shallow hide in a stud wall or the back of a cupboard, if the bay matches the body

Less suitable: A4 folders, a certified cash rating, or anyone who needs the middle shelf shown in the photos

Is there a key if the batteries fail?

The bullet says two manual override keys, and four AA batteries are included.

Is it fire rated?

The listing file does not name a fire standard.

Brihard 20 L LCD safe

Rank 7

Brihard 20 L LCD safe

∼£54

Our view

The Brihard 13FAME is a 20 litre, 8 kg cabinet at £54.29, with 4.3 from 1,093 reviews. The bullet describes an LCD keypad, 20 mm bolts, concealed hinges, a removable shelf, an internal LED, and four screws for wall or floor. The title adds a fireproof money bag. The attribute says not water resistant, and no fire standard is named for the steel. The title size is 25 x 35 x 25 cm and the attribute is 35 x 35 x 25 cm. UK reviews praise a wall fixing and, in one case, room for a laptop. They also describe a tiny opening lever that needed pliers, and sharp inner edges. A 2019 review talks about three knobs, which is not the current LCD bullet. Colour is titanium grey. Warranty in the bullet is two years.

Pros

  • 4.3 from 1,093 reviews
  • Two override keys and wall or floor holes
  • Removable shelf
  • £54.29 for 20 litres

Cons

  • Fire claim sits on a bag, not a named safe standard
  • Size lines disagree
  • Sharp edges and a small lever in reviews
  • An older review describes a different lock

Best for: A mid-size bolted cabinet for cash and small folders, if you check A4 fit

Less suitable: Anyone treating the bag as a fire certificate for the safe

Is the safe fireproof?

The title and bullets put the fire and water claim on a money bag. The water-resistance attribute says not water resistant. No EN standard is named for the safe.

Will A4 paper fit?

The title says documents A4. One UK review of this family size says it is only just A4. Title size and the attribute size do not match.

Yale YSV/390/DB2

Rank 8

Yale YSV/390/DB2

∼£78

Our view

The Yale YSV/390/DB2 is a 40 litre, 10.6 kg cabinet at £77.68, with 4.3 from 215 reviews. The title adds a carpeted interior, an anti-bump solenoid, and wall or floor fixings. The bullet gives a 3 to 8 digit PIN, two keys, LED status, and the same wrong-code lockdown as the smaller Yales. Reviewers like the space for A4 and call the steel enough for an opportunist. They also call the instructions poor, say the override is prise-and-pull rather than the diagram, report supplied batteries that were too weak, and describe soft bolts. One review says the sheet is about 2 mm and that an angle grinder would still get in with time. One keypad row failed after 18 months. No fire standard is named.

Pros

  • 40 litres, A4 mentioned in reviews
  • Carpeted interior in the title
  • Two keys and wall or floor bolts
  • Wrong-code lockdown in the bullet

Cons

  • Instructions and the override diagram disagree, in reviews
  • Soft bolts and weak supplied batteries
  • Keypad failure after 18 months, in one review
  • No fire standard

Best for: A larger bolted cabinet for A4 papers and a laptop, if you accept an unrated shell

Less suitable: A graded cash limit or a recessed wall

Common questions

Will A4 paper fit flat?

UK reviews say A4 papers go in without folding, and one reviewer fitted a laptop. The attribute size is 38 x 42 x 37 cm and the capacity line is 40 litres.

Can you bolt it to the floor?

The bullet says pre-drilled holes and fixing bolts for a wall or the floor. A review says the Philips heads round off and need a 10 mm spanner.

Is it fire resistant?

The page asks. The bullets say standard protection and do not name a fire standard.

HSGCJS biometric safe

Rank 9

HSGCJS biometric safe

∼£170

Our view

The HSGCJS listing is £169.90, 19.2 kg, with 4.0 from 100 reviews. The title says 42 litres and 38 x 32 x 45 cm. The model number is 45L. The capacity attribute is 1.93 cubic feet and the size attribute is 32 x 38 x 45 cm. Those figures are all kept because they disagree. The lock line is biometric, electronic and key. The bullet adds 28 fingerprints, a 3 to 8 digit PIN, two emergency keys, a velvet lining, an LED, an adjustable shelf, three latches and a 3 mm door. The alarm attribute is vibration. Nine UK reviews split between people who rate it strong once fitted, including one who stored A4, and people who could not set a fingerprint or a new PIN. One review notes an external battery because the main pack lives inside. Water resistance is not water resistant. It is a deep cabinet with wall, floor or shelf holes.

Pros

  • Three opening methods in the bullet
  • Adjustable shelf and an internal LED
  • 19.2 kg with pre-drilled holes
  • Wrong-code and vibration alarm described

Cons

  • 42 litres, 45L and 1.93 cubic feet all appear
  • Fingerprint and PIN setup failed in several of nine UK reviews
  • Only two mounting screws on the components line
  • No fire standard

Best for: A large bolted cabinet if you can set the PIN and you keep the keys and the external battery outside

Less suitable: A household that needs the fingerprint to work first time, or an in-wall fit

NALULI 52 L biometric safe

Rank 10

NALULI 52 L biometric safe

∼£170

Our view

The NALULI A6-45ZW is a 52 litre alloy-steel cabinet at £169.99. The attribute weight is 21.4 kg and the title says 22 kg. Size is 32 x 38 x 45 cm. The lock line is biometric, electronic and key. Mounting is wall mount, and a line in the file says holes, bolts and backup keys are included. The alarm attribute is audible. The listing line is 3.9 from 19 reviews, and eight UK texts are in the file. They praise space for A4 and a removable shelf, and they stress the weight. One verified review says the key turns halfway, will not open or close the door, and the setup button and battery cover could not be found. Interior lining is said to need care. No fire standard and no water line are in the attributes.

Pros

  • 52 litres for A4, in reviews
  • Fingerprint, keypad and key on the lock line
  • About 21 kg
  • Holes and bolts mentioned

Cons

  • 3.9 from only 19 reviews
  • Key would not operate the lock, in one review
  • Lining criticised
  • No fire standard in the attributes

Best for: A heavy bolted cabinet for documents, if you test the key and the sensor before you fix it

Less suitable: A first safe if you cannot afford a lock that arrives stuck

NALULI 52 L keypad safe

Rank 11

NALULI 52 L keypad safe

∼£160

Our view

The NALULI A6-45DZ is the keypad version of the 52 litre cabinet, at £159.99, without a fingerprint line. Attribute weight is 21.4 kg, title weight is 22 kg, size is 32 x 38 x 45 cm. The bullet describes a 3 to 8 digit PIN, a one-minute alarm after five wrong codes, two keys, an LED, a removable shelf, and two fixing holes. Warranty in the bullet is 12 months, plus a lifetime key-matching claim. The listing line is 3.6 from 11 reviews, and four UK texts are in the file. They call it heavy and roomy for A4. One shop owner calls it a deterrent and no more. No repeated broken part shows up in those four texts. No fire standard is named.

Pros

  • 52 litres and a removable shelf
  • Two keys and an external battery pack in the file
  • Audible alarm in the bullet
  • 12-month warranty stated

Cons

  • 3.6 from 11 reviews
  • Only two fixing holes
  • Called a deterrent in one review
  • No fire standard

The bullet says two pre-drilled holes and expansion bolts, for a wall, floor, cabinet or closet. Reviews say fixing it matters more than leaving it freestanding.

Is it fireproof?

The page asks. The bullets do not name a fire standard.

How we compared

For this comparison we scored 11 amazon.co.uk wall-safe listings on 16 October 2026. A wall safe here is a cabinet sold to bolt to a wall, or a flat body sold for a stud bay. The scores use star ratings, review volume on that ASIN, whether the lock and size lines agree, the stated job, and the GBP price. Deductions cover shared review text, a fire bag with no fire standard, keypad faults, and a lock a review says was picked. There was no attack test and no fire test.

1

Amazon stars

30%

The amazon.co.uk star average is scaled to a 30-point cap. A shared 4.5 line still scores the stars once. It is not the editorial total, and it is not a burglary test.

2

Review volume

20%

10,000 or more reviews on this ASIN alone take 20 points. A star line shared with another ASIN in the set is scored lower, and it is not treated as two independent samples.

3

Listing clarity

15%

Points for a lock line that agrees with the title, sizes in one system, and a second way in. A key-only box with no fallback scores less on this part.

A flat body sold for a stud bay scores higher on the job than a small key-only box the listing says is not for A4. An electronic cabinet with wall or floor holes sits between them.

Wall safe buying guide

Start with the wall, not the litre number. A bolted cabinet and a stud-bay body are different products, and an insurer's grade is a third question that none of these 11 listings answers with a certificate. Prices are amazon.co.uk shelf prices on 16 October 2026. The score is editorial. It is not a laboratory attack test and not a fire test. Keep the override key outside the box, and bolt the cabinet once you know the wall can take it.

What is a wall safe?

A wall safe in UK shops is one of two shapes. The first is a steel cabinet you bolt to the face of a brick or block wall, or to a floor or a shelf. The second is a shallow body you set into the wall, usually the gap between studs. "Wall mount" on a deep cabinet means bolted on. It does not mean the box is buried in the plaster. Brick or block can take a surface cabinet once you have checked for pipes and cables. A stud wall needs a body that fits the clear gap and screws into the studs.

Best for

  • Passports and small valuables bolted to solid brick or block
  • A shallow hide in a stud bay, if you measure the gap first

Not ideal for

  • Jewellery an insurer will cover only in a named grade
  • Anyone treating a fireproof title as EN 15659 or EN 1047-1

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

    Buying the litre number

A large cabinet can still be a surface box, and a small one can still be the wrong shape for the wall. The Paragon is the shallow body. The other ten bolt on. Read the fixing line before the capacity.

  2. 2

    Reading wall mount as in-wall

Wall mount on a deep cabinet means holes for bolts on the face of the wall, the floor or a shelf. It does not mean the body sits between the studs. Plasterboard plugs are not that fixing.

  3. 3

Treating a fireproof title as a certificate

EN 15659 is paper only, and a bag in the box is not that standard. None of these listings names EN 15659 or EN 1047-1. Leave the override key outside the safe, and do not leave the box unbolted.

What to weigh up

Wall and shape

High

Brick or block can take a surface cabinet once pipes and cables are clear. A stud wall needs a body that fits the clear gap and screws into the studs. Plasterboard plugs are not a fixing. "Wall mount" on a deep cabinet means bolted to the face of the wall, not set inside it. In this set the surface cabinets are the Yale value safes, Amazon Basics, Brihard, Bonsaii, WASJOYE, HSGCJS and both NALULI models. The recessed shape is the Paragon 7725, about 10 cm deep, sold for the gap between studs.

Certificate and a second way in

High

EN 1143-1 is the safe standard, Grade 0 then Grade I upward. EN 14450 S1 and S2 are lighter cabinets. Sold Secure SS 304, Silver or Gold, and LPS 1183 are the UK routes Secured by Design names. Weight is not a grade. No title in this set shows those certificates, so a star rating is not a cash limit.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Documents on a solid wall

You want passports and small valuables bolted to brick or block, and no insurer has named a grade. The Amazon Basics 14 litre cabinet has a keypad, two override keys and expansion bolts, at about £57.96. The batteries are not in the box, and it is not a stud-bay body.

A shallow hide in a stud wall

The wall is timber studs, and a deep cabinet will not sit inside the bay. The Paragon 7725 is the only listing sold as a flat body for that gap, about 10.2 cm deep, at £126.49. Measure the bay. The size lines mix centimetres and US inches.

More room at a mid price

You want a larger bolted cabinet than the 14 litre Amazon Basics, without the Yale pair's shared review line. The Brihard 20 litre cabinet is about £54.29, with 1,093 reviews of its own and two override keys. The fire claim sits on a bag, not on a named standard for the steel.

Common questions about wall safes

Which wall safe is the top pick in this set?
The Amazon Basics 14 litre cabinet leads this set. It is about £57.96, with 4.5 from 29,991 amazon.co.uk reviews, a keypad, two override keys and bolts for a wall, floor or shelf. It is a surface cabinet, not a stud-bay safe. The batteries are not in the box, and no fire standard is named. Use it for documents on masonry. Skip it if the wall is a stud bay or an insurer has named a grade.
How much does a wall safe cost on amazon.co.uk?
On 16 October 2026 this set runs from the Bonsaii at £18.69 to about £170. The Yale mini is £24.99 and the small Yale is £30.43. Mid-size cabinets are the Brihard at £54.29, the Amazon Basics at £57.96 and the Yale 40 litre at £77.68. The Paragon stud-bay body is £126.49. A certified EN 1143-1 Grade 0 wall safe is a different purchase, roughly £880 to £1,700 including VAT.
What should you check before you buy a wall safe?
Check the wall first. Brick or block can take a bolted cabinet. A stud wall needs a shallow body screwed into the studs, not plasterboard plugs. Then check whether an insurer has named a grade. None of these titles shows EN 1143-1, EN 14450, Sold Secure or LPS 1183. Look for a second way in if the batteries fail, and for an internal size that matches A4 if that is what you store.
Are any of these wall safes EN 1143-1 certified?
No title in this set names EN 1143-1, EN 14450, Sold Secure or LPS 1183. Weight is not a grade. A certified Grade 0 wall safe, such as the Burton Unica, is a separate UK shop purchase at roughly £880 to £1,700 including VAT. Those pages cite £6,000 cash and £60,000 valuables, and Simply Safes states that the Unica is not fire resistant. Ask your insurer for the written limit.
Does a fireproof title mean the safe is fire rated?
No. EN 15659 LFS 30 or LFS 60 is light paper protection, and it does not guarantee protection after the exposure. EN 1047-1 is the stricter paper and data standard. A fireproof title, or a money bag in the box, is not that certificate. The Brihard title adds a fireproof money bag and names no fire standard for the steel. For a fire box, use the fireproof safe comparison.
Can you fit one of these safes in a stud wall?
Only the Paragon 7725 is sold as a flat body for the gap between studs, about 10.2 cm deep, at £126.49. The attribute size and a bullet in inches do not match, and reviews mention 16 inch stud centres, so measure the bay before you cut. The other ten are surface cabinets. Wall mount on those means bolted on. In England and Wales, cutting a party wall needs notice under the Party Wall etc. Act 1996, or written consent.
Where should you keep the override key?
Outside the safe. A PIN or fingerprint plus an override key is the second way in when the batteries fail. Key-only boxes have no fallback if the key is locked inside. Police.uk says bolt the safe, avoid the bedroom as the default spot, and check the insurer. If the door is shut and the override has failed, call a locksmith. The two Yale value listings share one 5,117 review line, so that count is not two samples.

Our verdict

The Amazon Basics 14 litre cabinet leads this set: 4.5 from 29,991 reviews, a keypad, two override keys and expansion bolts, at about £57.96. It is a surface cabinet, the batteries are not in the box, and no fire standard is named. The Brihard 20 litre cabinet is the best value at about £54.29, with 1,093 reviews of its own and a larger stated capacity. The cheaper Yale pair is not that pick, because one star line of 5,117 is shared and the mini file repeats the other model's text.
