Gun cabinet comparison 2026

The best gun cabinets, compared.

Top pick: GDK 2-gun breakdown Best value: GDK 2-gun breakdown – About £159.99 and 4.6 from 25 reviews, for two take-down guns in a 900 mm cabinet. Not a substitute for a full-length shotgun. Updated October 2026.

Peter F.
Peter F.Editor

A gun cabinet is a steel enclosure for shotguns or rifles, fixed so an unauthorised person cannot readily take the guns. The Firearms 1998 put that duty on a firearm certificate, and on a shotgun certificate for the guns. The 2020 Firearms Security Handbook treats a cabinet to BS 7558:1992 as the usual level 1 answer. That standard was withdrawn, with no successor named. Judge internal length, a lock you can still open, bolts into masonry or joists, and a standard claim you can explain. A keypad is convenience, not a higher legal class. The [gun cabinet buying guide](/hub/safes-and-secure-storage/gun-cabinet/sub/gun-cabinet-buying-guide) covers length, the lock, the fixing, and the BS 7558 claim before brand. Scores are the amazon.co.uk star line times 20. Level 1 can also be a clamp for one low-risk gun.

Question 1 of 2

Which guns will you store?

The best gun cabinets in detail

GDK 2-gun breakdown

Rank 1

GDK 2-gun breakdown

∼£160

Our view

The GDK breakdown cabinet is the lowest shelf price in this set at £159.99, with the highest star line, 4.6 from 25, and a BS 7558/92 claim. It is 900 mm high and 18 kg. UK reviews buy it for a small space and for two broken-down guns. It is the best value only if your shotguns take down. An unbroken gun that needs the 1300 mm GDK body will not become suitable by being cheaper. No lock failure is described in the 14 UK reviews in the extract. The number-of-doors field says 2, which is the listing’s figure for this single cabinet.

Pros

  • Lowest price among the gun cabinets kept, £159.99
  • 4.6 from 25, and UK reviews describe a sturdy small cabinet
  • BS 7558/92 claimed, with bolts included according to reviews

Cons

  • Only for take-down guns. External height is 900 mm
  • No ammunition compartment stated
  • Key count is not in the components field
  • Number-of-items field says 2, which is unexplained in the extract

Best for: Two take-down shotguns in a cupboard that will not take a 1300 mm cabinet, if you can bolt it to the wall.

Less suitable: Full-length shotguns or rifles, and any holding that needs a separate ammunition compartment.

Common questions

Which guns fit the GDK breakdown cabinet?

The title is a 2-gun breakdown cabinet, 900 mm high. UK reviews describe two split guns or two broken-down over-and-unders, and say it is not for much else. One review allows three split guns only at a push.

Does the listing claim BS 7558?

Yes. A bullet says police approved, built to BS7558/92. One UK review says it meets police regulations. That is not a certificate from your force.

Does it need assembly?

The listing says assembly required, yes, and gives wall mount and surface mount. Reviewers call the fixings easy and say the bolts were in the box.

GDK ZC3gun

Rank 2

GDK ZC3gun

∼£180

Our view

The GDK ZC3gun is the full-length 3-gun key cabinet in this set with a BS 7558/92 claim, a 30 kg steel body, and the only large set of UK reviews, 4.4 from 63 at £179.99. Buyers call it sturdy and say a solid-wall fixing has satisfied a shotgun inspection. Scoped rifles often fill it at two guns, not three. One review reports both locks failing after a few months with the guns trapped inside, and one cabinet arrived with split metal that GDK replaced. The phrase guaranteed police approval is the listing’s, not a decision by your force.

Pros

  • BS 7558/92 claimed on a full-length 3-gun cabinet
  • 4.4 from 63 on amazon.co.uk, with UK review text
  • Two key locks and a wall-fixing pattern reviewers have used

Cons

  • Scoped rifles often rated as a 2-gun fit, not 3
  • One report of both locks failing and guns trapped inside
  • Supplied bolts criticised for concrete. One split casing on arrival
  • External axes disagree between the bullet and the attribute line

Best for: A first shotgun certificate with one or two full-length guns, where you can bolt into a solid wall and you do not need three scoped rifles.

Less suitable: Three scoped rifles, or anyone who needs a stated internal gun length and an ammunition compartment.

Common questions

Does the GDK ZC3gun listing claim BS 7558?

Yes. The bullet says it is built to BS7558/92 for guaranteed police approval. That is the seller’s wording. Two UK reviews say an inspector or the police accepted the cabinet. The extract is not a letter from a force.

Will three scoped rifles fit?

The listing says three guns. Several UK reviews say scopes, silencers, or pistol grips leave room for two guns, and that the body is shallow. One buyer did fit three guns.

How is it fixed?

Mounting type is wall mount. UK reviews describe four bolts. One buyer says a firearms inspector accepted the bolts on a solid wall. Another says the supplied bolts were not concrete fixings and bought others.

Genie Hand rifle safe

Rank 3

Genie Hand rifle safe

∼£373

Our view

The Genie Hand cabinet is a narrow electronic rifle box at £373.21, 145 cm high, 25 cm deep, and 35.8 kg, with five locking pins, a keypad, two override keys, an internal keyed compartment, and an audible alarm. Capacity is given as 80 litres, not as a gun count, and there is no BS 7558 claim. It is not water resistant. The 4.3 from 3 does not rest on a UK review. The single comment is Dutch and is about airsoft replicas. Use it only if 25 cm depth and 145 cm height match the rifle, and if your enquiry officer accepts a cabinet with no stated British Standard.

Pros

  • Override keys stated to work with a dead battery
  • 145 cm external height and an internal keyed compartment
  • Wall plugs and four AA batteries included

Cons

  • No BS 7558 claim and no stated gun count
  • Only review text is from the Netherlands and concerns airsoft
  • Not water resistant, and no fire rating
  • 25 cm external depth may be tight for a scoped rifle

Best for: A tall, narrow rifle cabinet if you want a keypad with a mechanical override and you have checked depth and the force’s view of an unstated standard.

Less suitable: A first shotgun certificate where the officer expects a BS 7558 claim, or any buyer relying on UK reviews.

Common questions

Can the Genie Hand cabinet be opened if the battery is flat?

The listing says the two B-class keys bypass the electronics when the batteries are dead or the code is forgotten. Four AA batteries are included. Keys still have to be kept outside the cabinet.

Does it state a fire or water test?

No fire duration is stated. Water resistance is not water resistant. The question is it fireproof appears in the extract and is not answered with a rating.

Is there a BS 7558 claim or a UK review?

No BS 7558 line. The star line is 4.3 from 3. The only written review is from the Netherlands and talks about airsoft replicas and vertical space, not a UK certificate visit.

KAER 1450-c

Rank 4

KAER 1450-c

∼£650

Our view

The KAER 1450-c is the widest electronic cabinet here, at £650.15, with a stated 8–12 long guns, three pistol holders, a keypad and key, a 3 mm door claim, and a body of 145 × 53.6 × 38.6 cm at 36.9 kg. The amazon.co.uk star line is 4.0 from 206, but the written reviews in the extract are American. They repeatedly say the steel is thin, that you assemble it yourself, and that it is a locker rather than a safe. Dents and a scraping door appear more than once. There is no BS 7558 claim. For a UK certificate, ask the enquiry officer before treating an 8–12 gun electronic cabinet with US reviews as level 1 storage.

Pros

  • Largest stated capacity in the set, 8–12 long guns
  • Keypad plus two keys and an emergency power box
  • External size is published, unlike the GDK 10-gun cabinet

Cons

  • No BS 7558 claim
  • Written reviews are from the United States and often call the steel thin
  • Assembly, dents, and door-fit complaints recur
  • Not water resistant, and no fire rating

Best for: A wide multi-gun cabinet only after your force has accepted this kind of electronic locker and you are willing to assemble it.

Less suitable: A buyer who wants UK reviews, a BS 7558 claim, or a cabinet that arrives fully built.

Common questions

Are the KAER reviews from the United Kingdom?

The star line on amazon.co.uk is 4.0 from 206. The 50 review texts in the extract are all headed United States. They are not comments from UK certificate holders.

Do those reviews describe a heavy safe?

Some call the door solid. Many call it a cabinet rather than a safe and say the metal is thin. Several report dents or scratches on arrival, a door that scrapes, or a cabinet that leans when the door is open. Assembly is required.

Is it fireproof or built to BS 7558?

No fire rating is stated. Water resistance is not water resistant. No BS 7558 line appears. A 3 mm door is claimed. The bullet also names an alarm and a silent mode.

Sealey SGS3

Rank 5

Sealey SGS3

∼£181

Our view

The Sealey SGS3 is a 3-gun key cabinet at £181.02, close to the GDK ZC3gun, with two 7-lever locks, a stated 1.2 m gun length, foam and a floor mat, and a BS 7558 claim. It weighs 25 kg and says fixings are included and assembly is not required. There is no star line and no review text, so nothing in the extract confirms the fit or the fixing. The depth is stored as both 26.5 cm and 205 mm. Treat the 1.2 m claim as the figure to check against your gun, and do not read police compliant as your enquiry officer’s decision.

Pros

  • States a 1.2 m gun length, which the GDK 3-gun listing does not
  • Two keys per lock and fixings included
  • BS 7558 claimed at a similar price to the GDK 3-gun cabinet

Cons

  • No customer-review line in the extract
  • Depth figures disagree: 26.5 cm and 205 mm
  • No ammunition compartment and no steel thickness in millimetres
  • Origin is China. Room type on the listing includes a garage

Best for: A 3-gun key cabinet when you need a stated 1.2 m length and you can confirm the depth before the home visit.

Less suitable: Anyone who wants UK buyer comments before paying, or a separate ammunition box.

Common questions

How long a gun does the Sealey SGS3 claim to take?

The bullet says three guns, suitable for rifles and shotguns up to 1.2 m. The external height attribute is 131.5 cm. A separate item-depth line says 205 mm, while the depth attribute says 26.5 cm. Both figures are on the listing.

Does it claim BS 7558, and is there a review line?

The bullet says built to comply with BS7558 and calls it police compliant. There is no customer-review line and no review text in the extract, so that claim is untested by buyers here.

Can it be bolted down?

Yes, on the listing. Fixings are included for wall or floor. It is also labelled floor standing and freestanding, and assembly required is no.

GDK 10GA

Rank 6

GDK 10GA

∼£440

Our view

The GDK 10GA is a 48 kg steel cabinet at £439.99 with a stated 10-gun foam rack, dual 7-lever locks, a 2 mm body and 3 mm door, and a separate keyed ammunition safe. Origin is given as the United Kingdom. There is no external size, no BS 7558 line, and no star line, so the 10-gun claim and the inner safe are title and bullet statements only. At this weight the floor and the wall fixings matter before delivery. Four wall points are stated. It is the ammunition-compartment option in this set only after you have measured the cabinet the listing does not dimension.

Pros

  • Separate keyed ammunition compartment, which the 3-gun GDK does not state
  • 2 mm body and 3 mm door stated
  • Origin field says United Kingdom

Cons

  • No outside dimensions and no stated gun length
  • No BS 7558 claim and no reviews
  • 48 kg on a footprint the listing does not give
  • Product image in the extract is a small thumbnail

Best for: A larger key cabinet with an inner ammunition lock, after you measure the actual cabinet and ask the enquiry officer about a holding of this size.

Less suitable: A buyer who needs published external dimensions, a BS 7558 line, or UK reviews before ordering.

Common questions

Does the GDK 10-gun cabinet have a separate ammunition lock?

Yes, on the listing. The bullet describes a built-in internal ammunition safe with its own key. Included components name an internal ammo box. There is no BS 7558 line in the extract for this model.

How large and how heavy is it?

Weight is 48 kg. Size name is L. No external height, width, or depth is in the extract, so you cannot check gun length from this capture. Country of origin is United Kingdom.

No customer-review line and no review text. The image URL in the extract is a small thumbnail, not a full-size product shot.

Generic 57-inch biometric

Rank 7

Generic 57-inch biometric

∼£500

Our view

This £499.99 cabinet is sold under the brand Generic. It claims five rifles up to 127 cm, a fingerprint store of 100 prints, a keypad, emergency keys, a silent mode, and a separate lockbox, with five anchor bolts for wall or floor. Nothing in the extract names BS 7558, a weight, a depth, or a single buyer. A 57-inch size is not a measured internal length. It is a fingerprint listing without the review file or the standard claim that a certificate visit usually turns on. Check the force before you treat the lockbox as section 1 ammunition storage.

Pros

  • States a 127 cm rifle length and a separate lockbox
  • Three opening methods, including emergency keys
  • Five anchor bolts and pre-drilled holes included

Cons

  • Brand Generic, no reviews, no BS 7558 claim
  • No weight and no centimetre dimensions
  • Assembly required
  • Fingerprint performance is a bullet only

Best for: Only if you have already agreed an electronic cabinet with your enquiry officer and you can inspect length and steel before relying on it.

Less suitable: A first certificate buy, where a reviewed key cabinet with a BS 7558 claim is the clearer listing.

Common questions

How do you open the generic biometric cabinet?

The bullets say fingerprint, up to 100 prints, a digital keypad with password reset, or emergency keys. Two emergency keys and two lockbox keys are included. There is no review to show the fingerprint reader works.

What size of rifle does it claim?

Up to five rifles measuring up to 127 cm. The size name is 57 inches. Weight, depth, and a centimetre outside size are not in the extract. Assembly is required.

Is a British Standard named?

No. Brand is Generic, origin is China, and there is no customer-review line. The title calls the inner box an ammo lockbox. The bullet calls it a lockbox for valuables.

How we compared

On 15 October 2026 the score for each of the seven amazon.co.uk listings is the star line times 20. A 4.4 becomes 88. A missing Customer Reviews line scores 0. Price is not inside that score. It places the best-value badge only on the lowest-priced cabinet that still matches take-down guns. The top pick is the full-length cabinet with a BS 7558/92 claim and the largest set of UK reviews, even though its star score is not the highest. No laboratory test, no force inspection, and no check of a standard mark on a cabinet in our hands.

1

Amazon star line

70%

The published score is the star average times 20. 4.6 is 92, 4.4 is 88, 4.3 is 86, and 4.0 is 80. Sealey, the GDK 10-gun cabinet, and the generic biometric listing have no Customer Reviews line, so they score 0.

2

Where the review text comes from

20%

A UK review file is read beside the star line. The GDK 3-gun and the breakdown cabinet have UK comments. The Genie Hand comment is from the Netherlands. The KAER texts in the extract are headed United States. That origin does not change the star score.

3

10%

A BS 7558 line, a stated gun length, fixing points, and an ammunition compartment stay in the assessment. They are not subtracted from the star score. Shelf price is used only for the best-value badge.

Gun cabinet buying guide

Start with the guns, then the wall, then the claim you can explain. A 900 mm breakdown cabinet only suits guns that come apart. A full-length shotgun needs a body closer to the 1300 mm GDK, or the Sealey’s stated 1.2 m. Prices in this set run from about £159.99 to about £650.15 on amazon.co.uk. A keypad does not raise the legal class, and a seller’s police-approved line is not the home visit.

What is a gun cabinet?

A gun cabinet is a steel enclosure for shotguns or rifles, fixed to the building so an unauthorised person cannot readily take them. The Firearms Rules 1998 put that duty on a firearm certificate, including its ammunition, and on a shotgun certificate for the guns but not the cartridges. The 2020 Firearms Security Handbook treats a cabinet to BS 7558:1992, fixed and out of casual view, as the usual level 1 answer. Level 1 can also be a clamp for one low-risk gun.

Best for

  • A first shotgun certificate with one or two full-length guns and a solid wall you can bolt into
  • Take-down shotguns in a cupboard that will not take a 1300 mm cabinet

Not ideal for

  • An unbroken shotgun bought into a 40 cm safe, or a breakdown cabinet used for a fixed stock
  • A substitute for the enquiry officer’s decision, or a plasterboard wall with no joist behind it

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

Buying a short safe because the title says gun

A 40 cm jewellery or gun safe does not take an unbroken shotgun. A breakdown cabinet is for guns that come apart. The GDK breakdown body is 900 mm high. The GDK 3-gun bullet states 1300 mm.

  2. 2

Reading police approved as the force’s decision

That phrase is seller wording. BS 7558:1992 was withdrawn on 7 November 2025 and was never a line in the Firearms Act. The enquiry officer decides at the home visit. A keypad is not a higher legal class.

  3. 3

Plasterboard bolts, or keys left inside

Bolts need brick, concrete, or joists. Plasterboard alone is not the structure. Override keys and spare keys stay outside the cabinet. US reviews are not UK certificate experience, and a heavy cabinet on a mid-span timber floor needs a structural check.

What to weigh up

Length, steel, and fixing

High

Internal length is the first check. Match it to the guns you own, not to the word gun in a title. The GDK breakdown cabinet is 900 mm high and is for take-down guns. The GDK ZC3gun bullet states 1300 × 245 × 205 mm, while its attribute line swaps the axes. The Sealey SGS3 states guns up to 1.2 m and an external height of 131.5 cm, and it stores depth as both 26.5 cm and 205 mm. The Genie Hand cabinet is 145 × 25 × 25 cm, with capacity given as 80 litres and no gun count.

Standard claim, lock, and ammunition

High

A BS 7558:1992 claim is something you can show an enquiry officer. The standard was withdrawn on 7 November 2025, with no successor named on the BSI listing, and it was never a sentence in the Firearms Act. The 2020 handbook and the PSNI still name it, so the officer decides. In this set the GDK ZC3gun, the GDK breakdown cabinet, and the Sealey SGS3 claim BS 7558. The Genie Hand, GDK 10-gun, generic biometric, and KAER listings do not. Police approved on a bullet is the seller’s wording.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

First shotgun certificate

You have one or two full-length guns and a solid wall you can bolt into. The GDK ZC3gun is about £179.99, with 4.4 from 63 reviews and a BS 7558/92 claim. Scoped rifles often fill it at two guns, not three.

Our recommendation

View offer

Take-down guns in a small space

Your shotguns come apart and a 1300 mm cabinet will not fit. The GDK breakdown cabinet is about £159.99, 900 mm high, with 4.6 from 25 reviews. An unbroken gun does not become suitable because the cabinet is cheaper.

Several guns and an ammunition lock

You want a larger key cabinet with a separate ammunition compartment, and you will measure it because the listing gives no outside size. The GDK 10GA is about £439.99 and 48 kg, with no star line and no BS 7558 claim. Agree a holding of this size with the enquiry officer.

Common questions about gun cabinets

Which gun cabinet is the top pick in 2026?
The top pick in this set is the GDK ZC3gun at about £179.99, with 4.4 from 63 amazon.co.uk reviews. It is a full-length 3-gun key cabinet with a BS 7558/92 claim and two key locks. UK reviews describe a solid-wall fixing. Scoped rifles often fill it at two guns, not three, and one review reports both locks failing. Guaranteed police approval is the listing’s phrase, not your force’s decision. The score is the star line times 20, not a laboratory test.
How much does a gun cabinet cost on amazon.co.uk?
The seven listings kept here run from about £159.99 to about £650.15 in the 15 October 2026 extract. About £160 to £185 covers the GDK breakdown cabinet, the GDK ZC3gun, and the Sealey SGS3. About £370 to £500 covers the Genie Hand cabinet, the GDK 10-gun cabinet, and the generic biometric cabinet. The KAER 8–12 gun cabinet is about £650.15. These are shelf prices, not a promise that the penny price is still current.
What should you check before you buy a gun cabinet?
Check internal length against the guns you own. A breakdown cabinet only suits guns that come apart, and a short safe with gun in the title does not fit an unbroken shotgun. Then check sheet steel, two locks on a full-length door, and bolts into brick, concrete, or joists. Plasterboard alone is not the structure. A BS 7558:1992 claim is something you can explain to an enquiry officer. It was withdrawn on 7 November 2025. Keys or an override stay outside the cabinet.
Is BS 7558:1992 still current, and does police approved mean your force has agreed?
BS 7558:1992 was withdrawn on 7 November 2025, and the BSI listing names no successor. It was never a line in the Firearms Act. The 2020 Firearms Security Handbook and the PSNI still name a BS 7558 cabinet fixed to the building, so the officer decides. Police approved, police compliant, and guaranteed police approval on these listings are seller wording. Two UK reviews of the GDK ZC3gun say an inspector accepted that cabinet. That extract is not a letter from your force.
Is a gun cabinet the same as a graded gun safe?
No. The cabinets here are sheet-steel enclosures, some with a BS 7558 claim and some with none. An EN 1143-1 safe is a different product, compared in the grade 1 gun safe comparison. The handbook’s usual level 1 answer is a fixed cabinet, or a clamp for one low-risk gun. Gun count alone does not set a higher level. A keypad is not a higher legal class, and the enquiry officer decides.
Do shotgun cartridges have to go in the gun cabinet?
The Firearms Rules 1998 put ammunition on a firearm certificate, and the guns, not the cartridges, on a shotgun certificate. The 2020 handbook still says lock shotgun cartridges away where children live. Section 1 ammunition and rifle bolts are stored separately. In this set the GDK 10-gun, Genie Hand, and generic listings state an inner lock. The GDK 3-gun and the breakdown cabinet do not. A lockbox on a listing is not the officer’s acceptance of section 1 storage.
Can a furniture safe store a certificate gun?
A furniture safe or a digital home safe is not a gun cabinet. Certificate guns need a steel enclosure fixed so they cannot readily be taken. Read firearms storage and furniture safes before you use one for that job. In England and Wales a sub-12 ft-lb air rifle is not a firearm-certificate gun, but from 31 July 2023 it must be stored securely and apart from pellets. That rule does not require a BS 7558 cabinet.
When should you stop and call a professional?
Call a competent fixer for a stud, thermal-block, or unknown wall, a doubtful floor or loft, or a rental where you cannot drill. The handbook’s suspended-floor example is about 56 lb per square foot. A heavy cabinet on a mid-span timber floor is a structural question, not a product-page question. Stop if the enquiry officer has refused the plan. The PSNI points long absences toward a dealer. Report a theft to the police. Never store a gun loaded, and keep override keys outside the cabinet.

Our verdict

The top pick is the GDK ZC3gun at about £179.99: a full-length 3-gun key cabinet with a BS 7558/92 claim, two key locks, a 30 kg body, and 4.4 from 63 amazon.co.uk reviews. UK comments describe a solid-wall fixing that has satisfied a shotgun inspection. Scoped rifles often rate it as a two-gun fit, and one review reports both locks failing. The best value is the GDK 2-gun breakdown cabinet at about £159.99, with 4.6 from 25 reviews, only if your shotguns take down. It is 900 mm high. An unbroken gun that needs the 1300 mm body is not a saving. Neither phrase “police approved” nor a keypad is your enquiry officer’s decision.

About £159.99 and 4.6 from 25 reviews, for two take-down guns in a 900 mm cabinet. Not a substitute for a full-length shotgun.
