Grade 0 gun safe comparison 2026

The best grade 0 gun safes, compared.

Top pick: Genie Hand W90 Best value: TOPMEDA GS202 – A reviewed pistol box at about £133.98 that includes four screws as well as a cable. Measure the pistol first. The title and the bullet disagree on how many fit. Updated October 2026.

Peter F.Editor

A grade 0 gun safe, in British use, is a safe certified to BS EN 1143-1 at resistance grade 0. Public tables of EN 1143-1:2019 put that grade at 30 resistance units. That figure is not a statute and not your insurance schedule. The Home Office Firearms Security Handbook 2020 says a new cabinet should meet BS 7558:1992 and be fixed to the building. It does not name Grade 0 as the house standard. If a certificate is why you are here, read [certificate storage](/hub/safes-and-secure-storage/grade-0-gun-safe/sub/grade-0-gun-safe-certificate-storage) first. Scores rank a nightstand lock box inside this set. Prices and star counts are from amazon.co.uk on 15 and 16 . Review texts for the two pistol boxes with a review line are almost all from the United States, not British opinion. It is not the same thing as a shallow steel box with a fingerprint reader.

A grade 0 gun safe, in British use, is a safe certified to BS EN 1143-1 at resistance grade 0. Public tables of EN 1143-1:2019 put that grade at 30 resistance units.

Question 1 of 2

What do you want the box to do?

The best grade 0 gun safes in detail

Genie Hand W90

Rank 1

Genie Hand W90

∼£280

Our view

The Genie Hand W90 is a free-standing time-lock safe, 25 × 35 × 25 cm, 10.6 kg and 25 litres, priced at £280. You open it with a weekly timer, a fingerprint, a code or a key, and a 9 V port on the front backs up the four AA batteries that come in the box. The bullet says the emergency keys open the safe at any time and should be kept with someone else. The included-components line says four B-Class keys and the bullet says two, so the key count is not settled. amazon.co.uk shows 5.0 from two reviews. The United Kingdom review describes habit control, such as smoking or dieting, and calls the fingerprint model spacious, while the United States review is about help with setup. Neither review mentions a firearm, there is no bolt kit, and the listing does not cite EN 1143-1 or BS 7558. A 25-litre cupboard with a timer is a different purchase from a pistol box, and two reviews are too few to treat 5.0 as a settled record.

Pros

  • Timer, fingerprint, code and a key override are all stated
  • 9 V front backup and a removable shelf are stated
  • The one UK review calls the fingerprint model spacious and reliable for habit control

Cons

  • No named burglary standard and no bolt kit
  • Included line says 4 B-Class keys; the bullet says 2
  • Only two reviews, and the UK one is not about firearms

Best for: A timed cupboard for habits or small valuables, if the override keys will live with someone else.

Less suitable: Certificate gun storage, a nightstand pistol tray, or a safe you mean to bolt to the floor.

Common questions

Is the Genie Hand W90 a Grade 0 gun safe?

The listing does not say so. It describes a time-lock safe with a fingerprint reader. It does not cite EN 1143-1 or BS 7558.

Can the timer be bypassed, and how is power restored?

The bullet says emergency keys open the safe at any time and should be kept with someone else. A 9 V port is on the front. Four AA batteries are in the included list.

What did the two reviewers use it for?

The United Kingdom review describes habit control, such as smoking or dieting, and praises the space. The United States review praises seller help with setup. Neither review is about a certificate cabinet.

BILLCONCH BG-J11

Rank 2

BILLCONCH BG-J11

∼£134

Our view

The BILLCONCH BG-J11 is an 8.2 cm high pistol box weighing 3.8 kg, with fingerprint, PIN, app and a key, plus a steel cable in the box. On amazon.co.uk it is 4.7 from 2,525 reviews, at £134.43, though the review texts in this extract are labelled United States rather than United Kingdom. Those reviews often describe a quick setup and a fingerprint reader that works, and they describe USB-C charging with the key as the fallback when the cell is flat. The spec table itself does not name the battery. The listing allows four small handguns or three small-to-medium ones, but several US reviews say a light or optic cuts that to one full-size pistol plus magazines. It is not water resistant, the alarm line says anti-theft while mute is also claimed, and US reviews mention a poor manual, a close-range app and one ribbon-cable short. Nothing on the listing cites EN 1143-1 or BS 7558, so this is our top pick only as a nightstand lock box in this set, not as a certified grade 0 gun safe.

Pros

  • Listing states four unlock routes and a security cable
  • US reviews often describe quick setup and a working fingerprint reader
  • Interior LED and mute mode are claimed

Cons

  • No EN 1143-1 or BS 7558 line
  • US reviews call it a deterrent and say four handguns do not fit once optics are added
  • US reviews report a poor manual, a close-range app, and one ribbon-cable short
  • Review texts in the extract are United States only

Best for: A nightstand or desk where you want fingerprint, PIN, app and a key, and you expect one full-size pistol rather than four with optics.

Less suitable: A firearm-certificate cabinet, a named EN 1143-1 or BS 7558 grade, or a handgun with a light or optic if you believed the four-gun line.

Common questions

Does the BILLCONCH listing name EN 1143-1 or BS 7558?

No. The extract names fingerprint, PIN, app, key and a security cable. It does not name a resistance grade or a certifier.

How is it fixed, and what happens if the battery is flat?

The included-components line lists a key and a steel cable. Mounting type is tabletop. US reviews describe USB-C charging and a key if the cell is flat. The spec table does not name the battery.

Will it hold four handguns?

The bullet says four small handguns or three small to medium ones. Several US reviews say a light or optic cuts that to one full-size pistol plus magazines. Those reviews are not labelled United Kingdom.

TOPMEDA GS202

Rank 3

TOPMEDA GS202

∼£134

Our view

The TOPMEDA GS202 is a 3.99 kg pistol tray, 8.4 cm high, at £133.98, with a security cable, four screws and two keys in the included list. amazon.co.uk shows 4.6 from 212 reviews, and those texts are not labelled as British buyers. The title says four pistols, while the bullet says one large handgun, two standard pistols or three small ones, and US reviews mostly report two. Code, key and fingerprint often work after a short setup in that file. The same reviews include lost fingerprints, a first unit that beeped, and a locked lid that opened when the box was dropped, so the shell is a deterrent rather than a tested cabinet. USB-C and an 1,800 mAh cell are claimed, yet reviewers say the USB cable is not in the box, and a single US comment about a house fire is not a fire rating because no fire standard is printed. At the bottom of this price band it is our best value only if you want the screws as well as the cable and you measure the pistol first. It is not a Grade 0 certificate.

Pros

  • Cable and four screws are in the included list
  • USB-C recharge, silent mode and an interior light are claimed
  • US reviews often say code, key and fingerprint work after a short setup

Cons

  • No named standard
  • Title and bullet disagree on how many pistols fit
  • US reviews: fingerprint loss, a beeping first unit, and a locked lid that opened when dropped
  • USB cable not in the included list, according to US reviews

Best for: A low tray when you want a cable and four screws at £133.98 and you will measure the pistol against the bullet, not the title.

Less suitable: Four full-size pistols, certificate storage, or anyone who needs the lid to stay shut if the box is dropped.

Common questions

Does the TOPMEDA listing name a Grade 0 certificate?

No. There is no EN 1143-1, BS 7558 or Sold Secure line in the extract.

How many pistols does the listing actually claim?

The title says four pistols. The bullet says one large handgun, or two standard pistols, or three small pistols. US reviews mostly report two.

Is there a fire rating?

No fire standard is on the listing. One US review says a unit survived a house fire. That single comment is not a rating.

KEhtu pistol case

Rank 4

KEhtu pistol case

∼£193

Our view

The KEhtu pistol case measures about 30.0 × 25.0 × 8.0 cm outside and about 4.31 kg, with a claimed interior of about 26.9 × 16.0 × 6.7 cm for two standard pistols plus ammunition. The title names fingerprint, PIN, a spare key and an app, and it claims an emergency power supply without naming the port or the battery. At £192.82 it costs more than the two reviewed pistol boxes here, and this extract has no star rating and no review text at all. The title prints an unlock time of 0 to 3 seconds while the bullet says within 1 second. Fixing is not stated, the included-components line is missing, and the country of origin is given as China. Solid steel is claimed, but neither EN 1143-1 nor BS 7558 appears, so you would be paying for a specification sheet rather than for evidence that the box does the nightstand job.

Pros

  • Bullet states two pistols plus ammunition and gives interior size
  • Fingerprint, PIN, spare key and an app are named
  • An interior light of about 10 seconds is claimed

Cons

  • No named standard and no fixing method
  • Title prints 0..3s; the bullet says within 1 second
  • No reviews and no included-components line

Best for: Only a buyer who specifically wants the stated two-pistol interior and can send the box back if the unstated fixing or power port does not suit.

Less suitable: Anyone who wants review evidence, a bolt pattern, or a certified safe.

Common questions

Does the KEhtu listing name a certifier?

No. The extract does not cite EN 1143-1, BS 7558 or Sold Secure.

How do you open it if the battery fails?

The title says an emergency power supply. It does not name the port or the battery. A spare key is in the bullet.

Is there a star rating?

This extract has no customer-review line and no review texts.

TOPINCN biometric box

Rank 5

TOPINCN biometric box

∼£144

Our view

The TOPINCN box is 41 × 25 × 14 cm and 3.32 kg, so the shell is taller than the 8 cm pistol trays, at £143.66. The title describes a portable handgun box for a car or a nightstand and names two keys and screws, while the item-type line says Cabinet Safes. A semiconductor fingerprint reader is the only unlock method in the bullet. PIN, an app, a battery, an interior size and a pistol count are all absent, and this extract has no customer-review line. The screws are named without a count or a bolt pattern, and the country of origin is China. No EN 1143-1 or BS 7558 line is present. The extra height might suit a bulkier item you have already measured, but the listing does not let you check the interior before you order.

Pros

  • Fingerprint and two keys are named
  • Exterior size and weight are on the spec table
  • The 14 cm height is taller than the 8 cm pistol trays if you have measured the item

Cons

  • No named standard, interior size, battery or reviews
  • Item type Cabinet Safes conflicts with the portable-box title
  • Screws are named without a count or a bolt pattern

Best for: A space you have already measured at about 14 cm high, if you will accept a fingerprint-and-key box with no reviews.

Less suitable: A certificate cabinet, or an order placed before you know the interior size.

Common questions

Is the TOPINCN a certified cabinet?

The item type name says Cabinet Safes. The title describes a portable handgun box for a car or nightstand. Neither line cites EN 1143-1 or BS 7558.

What unlock methods are listed?

The bullet describes a semiconductor fingerprint reader. The title adds two keys and screws. PIN, app and a battery are not in the extract.

How many handguns does it hold?

The extract gives no pistol count and no interior size. Exterior size is 41 x 25 x 14 cm at 3.32 kg.

How we compared

For this comparison we scored five amazon.co.uk listings on 15 and 16 October 2026. None cites EN 1143-1 or BS 7558, so the score ranks a nightstand lock box inside this set. It does not award a certified grade. Points come from amazon.co.uk stars (up to 30), review volume (up to 25), listing clarity (up to 20), the stated job (up to 15) and the price in this set (up to 10). Deductions cover a missing standard, United States review texts, capacity clashes and listing conflicts. There was no attack test, no fire test and no laboratory.

Grade 0 gun safe buying guide

Start with the standard named on the listing, not the words gun safe in the title. EN 1143-1 Grade 0 is a tested burglary class, often a heavy safe. BS 7558:1992 is the handbook line for a new gun cabinet in a dwelling, and it has to be fixed to the building. A fingerprint pistol box of about 8 cm and 4 kg is a third object. Prices on this page run from about £133.98 to £280. None of the five cites EN 1143-1 or BS 7558. A certificate, an insurer's grade, or a scoped rifle sits outside this set.

What is a grade 0 gun safe?

A grade 0 gun safe means a secure storage unit tested to BS EN 1143-1 at resistance grade 0, also called Eurograde 0. The BSI catalogue entry identifies that standard. A public preview table of EN 1143-1:2019 puts Grade 0 at 30 resistance units. That is a burglary-resistance class for a certified safe. It is not the same thing as a shallow steel box with a fingerprint reader. Burton's Grade 0 home-safe page states about 65 kg and a seller line of £6,000 cash or £60,000 valuables.

Best for

  • A nightstand lock box for one handgun you may lawfully keep that way
  • A timed cupboard for habits or small valuables, with the override keys kept elsewhere

Not ideal for

  • Firearm-certificate storage that needs BS 7558 or a certified grade
  • A scoped rifle, or four handguns once a light or optic is fitted

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

Reading an Amazon rank as a grade

Gun Safes rank, a fingerprint reader, or a sentence about German weapons law is not EN 1143-1 and not UK police approval. The handbook's new-cabinet line is BS 7558:1992, fixed to the building. None of the five listings names that standard or Grade 0.

  2. 2

    Trusting a four-pistol title

The TOPMEDA title says four pistols. The bullet says one large handgun, two standard pistols or three small ones, and US reviews mostly report two. The BILLCONCH bullet says four small or three small-to-medium handguns, and US reviews say a light or optic cuts that to one full-size pistol plus magazines. Measure the pistol, including any optic, before you order an 8 cm box.

  3. 3

Keys in the same drawer, or a cash line on a policy

Override keys left beside the box cancel the lock. The Genie Hand bullet says the emergency keys open the safe at any time and should be kept with someone else. A dealer's £6,000 cash or £60,000 valuables line is a seller statement. It is not your insurance schedule. Ask the insurer if a grade is named.

What to weigh up

Named standard

High

The first check is the named standard and the certifier. A grade 0 gun safe is EN 1143-1 at resistance grade 0, with a body such as ECB-S, VdS or an equivalent. Public tables of the 2019 edition put Grade 0 at 30 resistance units. A new dwelling cabinet is a different line: the Firearms Security Handbook 2020 says BS 7558:1992, fixed to the building. Secured by Design describes Sold Secure SS302 Bronze as meeting BS 7558:1992. EN 14450 S1 or S2 is a lighter scale, not Grade 0.

Fixing and power backup

High

Weight, fixing and a lock that still opens when the power fails come next. A scoped rifle needs cabinet depth. An 8 cm box is a pistol tray. Handbook cabinets are bolted and sited out of easy view. A security cable only delays someone walking off with a portable box. The BILLCONCH BG-J11 includes a key and a steel cable, and the mounting type is tabletop. US reviews describe USB-C charging and the key if the cell is flat. The spec table does not name the battery.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Nightstand pistol box

You want fingerprint, PIN, an app and a key, plus a steel cable, and you expect one full-size pistol rather than four with optics. The BILLCONCH BG-J11 is 8.2 cm high and 3.8 kg, at about £134.43, with 4.7 from 2,525 reviews. Those review texts are from the United States, and the listing names no grade.

Our recommendation

View offer

Cable and four screws

You want a low tray with a cable and four screws at about £133.98, and you will measure the pistol against the bullet rather than the four-pistol title. The TOPMEDA GS202 is 8.4 cm high. A US review says a locked lid opened when the box was dropped. It is not a Grade 0 certificate.

Our recommendation

View offer

Timed cupboard

You want a weekly timer for habits or small valuables, and the override keys will live with someone else. The Genie Hand W90 is 25 litres and 10.6 kg, at £280, free standing. The UK review is about habit control, not firearms. It is not a bolted gun cabinet.

Common questions about grade 0 gun safes

What is a grade 0 gun safe in Britain?
A grade 0 gun safe is a secure storage unit certified to BS EN 1143-1 at resistance grade 0, also called Eurograde 0. A public table of the 2019 edition puts Grade 0 at 30 resistance units. Burton's Grade 0 page states a seller line of about £6,000 cash or £60,000 valuables, and about 65 kg. That line is not the law and not your insurance schedule. The Home Office handbook does not name Grade 0 as the usual new cabinet for a house.
Do these five amazon.co.uk listings meet Grade 0?
No. BILLCONCH B08TTZVN21, TOPMEDA B0DBYYKR38, KEhtu B0DS5Z7FDG, TOPINCN B0F5P73KB4 and Genie Hand B0H1H6B359 do not cite EN 1143-1 or BS 7558. They are fingerprint pistol boxes from about £134 to £193, plus a £280 time-lock safe. A Gun Safes sales rank, a fingerprint reader or a German weapons-law sentence is not police approval. For a certificate, judge the named standard, the weight and the bolts.
What storage does a firearm certificate usually expect?
The Firearms Security Handbook 2020 says a new cabinet should meet BS 7558:1992 and be fixed to the building, out of easy view. Sold Secure SS302 Bronze is described by Secured by Design as meeting that standard. For mobile homes and caravans the handbook points to a BS 7558 cabinet or a commercial safe at EN 1143-1 Grade 1, 2 or 3, and it says to check the floor load. A gun cabinet comparison is the nearer shelf if you need that handbook line.
How much do these listings cost on amazon.co.uk?
On 15 October 2026 the five amazon.co.uk prices were TOPMEDA £133.98, BILLCONCH £134.43, TOPINCN £143.66, KEhtu £192.82 and Genie Hand £280. As a rule of thumb, these uncertified boxes sit around £130 to £200. Outside the set on 16 October 2026, a Burg-Wächter listing that said EN 1143-1 grade 0 was about £735.11, and a Brattonsound with a BS 7558-style claim was about £270.55. Certified examples with a visible price were heavier and cost several hundred pounds.
Are these pistol boxes fireproof?
No fire standard is printed on any of the five listings. Do not treat one American review of a house fire, on the TOPMEDA page, as a fire rating. BILLCONCH, TOPMEDA and Genie Hand are listed as not water resistant. KEhtu and TOPINCN do not state water resistance. If you need a fire rating, you need a listing that names the standard and the duration. A fingerprint and a steel shell do not create one.
Do England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland use the same storage rule?
No. England and Wales air weapons, from 31 July 2023, must be kept secure and out of sight, and separate from compatible ammunition when not in use. A trigger lock alone is not enough. Scotland may require an air weapon certificate. In Northern Ireland, airguns over 1 joule need a PSNI firearm certificate, and the PSNI page says a BS 7558 cabinet secured to the building. Section 1 ammunition should be stored securely, and best practice is separate from the firearms.
Which listing is the top pick, and who should skip it?
The top pick in this set is the BILLCONCH BG-J11 at about £134.43, with 4.7 from 2,525 reviews, a cable and an app. It is a nightstand lock box, not an EN 1143-1 Grade 0 safe, and the review texts are from the United States. Skip it for a certificate cabinet or for four handguns with optics. The best value is the TOPMEDA GS202 if you want four screws as well as a cable and you measure the pistol first.
When should you stop and call someone?
Call firearms licensing before a purchase that has to satisfy a certificate. Call a fixer if the wall is not obviously masonry. Ask the insurer if a grade is named in the policy. Ask a competent person before a heavy safe goes into a mobile home. Common mistakes are treating an Amazon rank as EN 1143-1, trusting a four-pistol title on an 8 cm box, leaving override keys in the same drawer, and pasting a dealer's £6,000 line onto a policy.

Our verdict

The top pick in this set is the BILLCONCH BG-J11 at about £134.43, with 4.7 from 2,525 reviews, a cable, an app and a capacity line that agrees with itself until US reviews add an optic. It is a nightstand lock box, not an EN 1143-1 Grade 0 safe, and the review texts are from the United States. The best value is the TOPMEDA GS202 at about £133.98. The reason is a reviewed pistol box that includes four screws as well as a cable, not the 45 pence gap. The title fights the bullet on pistol count, and a US review says a locked lid opened when the box was dropped. The £143.66 and £192.82 listings have no reviews. The £280 time-lock safe is a different object. For a certificate, leave this set and judge the named standard, the weight and the bolts.
