Best wall safe UK

Updated: October 2026

You are choosing a wall safe for a UK house before you know whether the wall is brick, a stud bay, or a party wall, and the titles only say wall mount and a litre number. That pair of words does not tell you the body will fit, or that an insurer will treat it as cover for jewellery. Match the wall first, then a certificate if a stated sum is involved, then a second way in when the electronics fail. This page ranks the criteria. The [wall safe comparison](/hub/safes-and-secure-storage/wall-safe) ranks the boxes once you know which apply. Checked 16 October 2026, with no lab test. What you are fixing it to

Three bodies share the name and they are not interchangeable. A recessed safe occupies the wall: the flat shape in this set is about 10 cm deep and is meant for a clear stud bay. A surface cabinet is 19 cm to 38 cm deep, with holes in the back, and wall mount means bolts into masonry or into studs. A concrete-set wall safe is a third product and it is not an ASIN in this comparison. Plasterboard plugs are not a fixing. London & Home Counties Safes talk about a 9 inch solid wall or an 11 inch cavity, and DIY Fix It says a mortared wall safe wants a wall no thinner than 225 mm and should not bridge a cavity. Both figures are retailer guides, not a Building Regulation minimum. If you are still unsure which shape you bought, settle that on in wall safe or bolted safe before you drill.

Certificate before weight

A heavy steel box and a graded safe are different claims. EN 1143-1 is the safe standard, starting at Grade 0 and rising through Grade I and above. EN 14450 S1 and S2 are lighter security cabinets. Sold Secure SS 304, in Silver or Gold, and LPS 1183 are the UK routes Secured by Design names alongside the European grades. None of those names appear on the titles in this amazon.co.uk set. Indicative cash figures used by ESSA and by De Raat put S1 near £2,000 cash, S2 near £4,000, and EN 1143-1 Grade 0 near £6,000, and your insurer can set another number. The sentence to send your insurer is on home insurance safe rating.

A way in when the keypad fails

Key, PIN, or fingerprint is a preference until the batteries die or the sensor misses your hand. The criterion that changes the outcome is a second way in: an override key, and an external battery point where the listing has one. Keep the key outside the safe. Key-only boxes have no fallback when that key is lost. Fingerprint models in this set, such as the dearer NALULI, rest on very small written samples. If the door is already shut and the override has failed, call a safe engineer rather than forcing the box.

Size, fire wording, and price

Litres describe air, not the thing you need to store. A headline such as 42 litres can disagree with the model line and the capacity attribute on the same listing. The Bonsaii bullet in this set says 6.6 litres is not for A4. Fire wording needs a named standard. EN 15659 LFS 30 or LFS 60 is light paper protection and does not promise the contents survive afterwards. EN 1047-1 is the stricter paper and data test. A fireproof title, or a bag in the box, is not either certificate. On 16 October 2026 this set sat in three rough bands: entry about £19 to £31, mid about £54 to £88, and heavier or flat bodies about £126 to £170. A Burton Unica Grade 0 is about £882 to £1,289 and is not one of these listings. Drilling belongs on how to fit a wall safe.

Common questions

How do I tell a real grade from a heavy box?
Look for EN 1143-1, EN 14450, Sold Secure, or LPS 1183 on the specification, not for kilograms or a thick door. No title in this comparison shows those certificates. A Grade 0 shop safe is a different purchase, often several hundred pounds above this set, and even then the insurer confirms the figure in writing.
What if the batteries die?
Use the override key, kept outside the safe, or the external battery contacts if the listing has them. A keypad with no override becomes a sealed box when the cells fail. If the door is shut and both the PIN and the key have failed, a locksmith or the maker's service is the next step, not a drill through the door.
Will A4 paper fit, or only the litre number?
Measure the internal width and height against the paper, not the litre claim. A4 is 210 mm by 297 mm, so a shallow body will not take a folder laid flat, and a 6.6 litre cabinet in this set is explicitly not an A4 box. Conflicting litre lines on one listing mean you measure the opening before you rely on the title.
Is fireproof on the title enough?
A fireproof title or a fire bag is not EN 15659 and not EN 1047-1. Those standards name a test duration for paper, and the lighter one still does not guarantee the documents are usable afterwards. If fire is the reason for the purchase, you need the standard printed, or a separate fire bag you trust for papers only.
When do I stop and ask the insurer or a builder?
Ask the insurer before you buy if jewellery or cash above an everyday sum must be covered, and name the model and the fixing. Ask a builder or a safe fitter before you cut a recess, bridge a cavity, open a party wall, or set a Grade 0 body in concrete. Bolting a cabinet to brick, after a services check, is the job most households can finish themselves.
