Cable tie pliers comparison 2026

The best cable tie pliers, compared.

Top pick: Dechengbao CT03 stainless kit Best value: QWORK WD10734 cable tie gun kit – A kit with 200 printed stainless ties at about £19.98 and 4.6 from 159 reviews. Awkward first use and a sharp tail are already deducted. Updated October 2026.

Peter F.
Peter F.Editor

A cable tie plier, usually sold as a cable tie gun, pulls a cable tie tight and cuts the tail at the head. UK catalogues use one tool for everyday nylon, most often 2.4–4.8 mm wide, and another for stainless steel strap. What you can check before you buy is a printed width and thickness, a tension control you can turn down, a cut at the head, and a handle that is only a grip. Nylon and stainless need different tools unless the listing says otherwise. Width and material are set out in the [cable tie pliers buying guide](/hub/pliers/cable-tie-pliers/sub/cable-tie-pliers-buying-guide). It is not a calibrated trade gun and it is not a pair of side cutters.

The best cable tie pliers in detail

Dechengbao CT03 stainless kit

Rank 1

Dechengbao CT03 stainless kit

∼£28

Our view

The Dechengbao CT03 kit is £27.99 and 1.23 kg, with 200 printed 4.6 × 270 mm 304 stainless ties and a long cutter lever that a UK review uses one-handed. Across 251 amazon.co.uk reviews it sits at 4.6; 12 of the first 50 texts are UK and they like the weighty metal and the rotating cut on wheel trims and hoses. The same notes call the first bite fiddly, the release tool flimsy, and the ratchet in need of a helping hand on firmer pipes. One UK buyer took two guns and one was a dud, and the odd included tie failed to cinch. You pay more than the tool-only CT03, and the listing still does not confirm plastic ties or a case.

Pros

  • 200 printed 4.6 × 270 mm stainless ties in the box
  • 4.6 from 251 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • UK note: one-hand tension and cut on the long lever

Cons

  • Dearer than the tool-only CT03
  • One of two guns was a dud in a UK review
  • Release tool called flimsy; first bite fiddly

Best for: You want the longer 270 mm stainless ties in the same box and a one-hand cutter lever.

Less suitable: You only need the gun, or you want a listing with no dud report.

Common questions

Does this Dechengbao kit include cable ties?

Yes. The listing names 200 self-locking 304 stainless ties, 4.6 × 270 mm, with the gun.

Can you tension and cut with one hand?

A UK review describes a long cutting lever with a plastic knob that lets you tension and cut with the same hand.

Is a case listed?

The listing asks about a case. The included-components line does not name one.

QWORK WD10734 cable tie gun kit

Rank 2

QWORK WD10734 cable tie gun kit

∼£20

Our view

The QWORK WD10734 kit is £19.98 and 1.14 kg, with a gun plus 200 printed 4.6 × 250 mm 304 stainless ties, for widths up to 12 mm and 0.3 mm thick. Across 159 amazon.co.uk reviews it sits at 4.6, and 24 of the first 50 texts are from the United Kingdom: they call the cuts tidy and the pack useful on exhaust wrap and flues. UK notes also say the first use is awkward, there are no instructions in the box, and a sharp tail can remain after the cut. An Ireland note wanted more tension. You get ties in the same box, but the listing does not say the gun will take nylon ties, and durability beyond the first year is left open.

Pros

  • £19.98 for a gun plus 200 printed 4.6 × 250 mm ties
  • 4.6 from 159 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • UK notes: tensions and cuts in one tool

Cons

  • Awkward first use; no instructions in the box
  • UK notes: leftover sharp edge after some cuts
  • Plastic ties are not confirmed

Best for: You want a mid-price stainless kit with the ties in the same box.

Less suitable: You only fit nylon ties, or you need a proven flush cut with no leftover tag.

Common questions

Does the QWORK WD10734 kit include cable ties?

Yes. The listing names 200 stainless steel ties, 4.6 × 250 mm, with the gun.

What ties will the gun take?

The listing says cable ties up to 12 mm wide and 0.3 mm thick. The bullets do not confirm plastic ties.

How do you cut the tail?

After the tie is tightened, you pull up the cutter bar. The listing claims a clean cut. UK reviews still warn of a sharp edge.

Dechengbao CT03 stainless cable tie gun

Rank 3

Dechengbao CT03 stainless cable tie gun

∼£18

Our view

The Dechengbao CT03 is a stainless-only gun at £17.99 and 670 g, printed for ties up to 12 mm by 0.3 mm, with no ties in the box. Across 823 amazon.co.uk reviews it sits at 4.5, and all of the first 50 texts are from the United Kingdom: they call it solid and simple once you start the tail by hand, squeeze, then lift the cutter lever. Several UK notes say the nose is too thick for a flush cut and leaves a sharp tag, the gun is heavy for long DIY runs, and you need about 5 cm of tail in the catch. One UK review failed after five minutes on weak springs, and the cutter lever does not always spring back. You still buy the stainless ties separately, and this listing does not confirm plastic ties.

Pros

  • 4.5 from 823 amazon.co.uk reviews, all of the first 50 texts UK
  • Printed stainless range 12 mm × 0.3 mm
  • Comfortable TPR handles on longer runs in the UK notes

Cons

  • Tool only: no ties in the box
  • UK notes: leftover sharp tag, not a flush cut
  • Cutter-lever spring does not always return; one five-minute fail

Best for: You already own 0.3 mm stainless ties and want the UK listing with the largest review file.

Less suitable: You need a flush cut, plastic nylon ties, or a band thicker than 0.3 mm.

Common questions

Does the Dechengbao CT03 listing include cable ties?

No. The included-components line says no, and the bullets do not name ties. The £17.99 price is for the gun.

What size stainless ties will it take?

The listing says most stainless steel cable ties up to 12 mm wide and 0.3 mm thick. It is not a heavy-band tool.

Does it need batteries?

No. The listing says it does not require batteries.

QWORK CA5078 stainless cable tie gun

Rank 4

QWORK CA5078 stainless cable tie gun

∼£15

Our view

The QWORK CA5078 is a stainless gun at £14.85 and 579 g, printed for 12 mm by 0.3 mm and ladder stainless ties, with no ties in the box. Across 499 amazon.co.uk reviews it sits at 4.4, and 26 of the first 50 texts are UK: one user ran more than 400 stainless ties with no blunting, and others call the cut close to the head. The same UK notes say it is not for regular plastic ties, the channel is too narrow, and one review says there is no real tighten function. One UK buyer reports a broken spring and a gun that did not work. You buy the cheapest stainless gun in this set, but the listing does not settle the plastic-tie question.

Pros

  • £14.85, the lowest stainless-gun price in this set
  • 4.4 from 499 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • UK note: 400+ stainless ties with no blunting

Cons

  • Tool only: no ties in the box
  • UK notes split: often not usable on plastic ties
  • One UK review: spring broke

Best for: You already own thin stainless ties and want the cheapest printed 12 mm × 0.3 mm gun.

Less suitable: You need nylon ties, or you want a kit with ties in the box.

No. The listing does not name ties. The £14.85 price is for the gun.

Will it take plastic nylon ties?

The listing asks that question and does not answer it. UK reviews split: one used both, others say the channel is too narrow for regular plastic ties.

What stainless size is printed?

Width up to 12 mm and steel-plate thickness up to 0.3 mm, including ladder stainless ties.

Flytuo HS-519 nylon cable tie gun

Rank 5

Flytuo HS-519 nylon cable tie gun

∼£11

Our view

The Flytuo HS-519 is a nylon gun at £10.99 and 290 g, printed for 2.4–9 mm plastic ties, with no ties in the box. Across 31 amazon.co.uk reviews it sits at 4.3, and every review block in the sample is UK: they like the flush cut and say the gripping cam is less prone to slip than a typical gun. The same notes call the bare metal handles tiring, the cutter not razor-sharp, and the tool a bit flimsy for heavy use. Thin cheap ties can snap if you over-tension, and one buyer says the listing photo did not match the tool received. You get the lowest price in this set, but the Amazon material line says Nylon and the sample is only 31 reviews.

Pros

  • £10.99, the lowest price in this set
  • UK notes: flush cut, less slip than a typical gun
  • Printed nylon width 2.4–9 mm

Cons

  • Only 31 reviews
  • Bare metal handles; fatigue on long runs
  • Listing photo error in one UK review; no ties in the box

Best for: You fit nylon ties up to 9 mm and want the cheapest flush-cut gun.

Less suitable: You need stainless ties, padded handles, or a large UK review file.

Does it leave a flush cut?

The listing claims a clean, precise cut. UK reviews describe a flush finish with no sharp tail.

C.K T3970 cable tie installation cutter

Rank 6

C.K T3970 cable tie installation cutter

∼£27

Our view

The C.K T3970 is a 155 mm flush-cut plier at £26.99 and 157 g, with Japanese steel and a patented serrated grip for plastic cable ties, not a stainless gun. Across 13 amazon.co.uk reviews it sits at 4.0; four UK texts and one Ireland text praise a very sharp flush cut and the gripper, and the Ireland note prefers it to Knipex flush cuts on heavy-duty plastic ties. One UK review says the jaws went blunt in less than a week on plastic ties and calls the metal soft. The listing does not print a tie width, and the unit count of 2.0 does not match the single cutter in included components. You buy a named electrician’s cutter, not a tension-and-cut gun, and the UK sample is thin.

Pros

  • Named C.K T3970 with Japanese steel and a patented grip
  • UK and Ireland notes: very sharp flush cut on plastic ties
  • Light at 157 g

Cons

  • Only 13 reviews
  • One UK review: blunt after a week; soft metal
  • No printed width; unit count 2.0 versus one cutter named

Best for: You want a short flush-cut plier for plastic ties, not a stainless tension gun.

Less suitable: You need stainless ties, a printed width, or a large review file.

No. It is a 155 mm flush-cut plier with a patented serrated grip for plastic cable ties.

Will it cut steel ties?

The listing is for plastic cable ties. A UK review says keep it off steel.

How many pieces are in the box?

The listing unit count is 2.0. Included components names one cutter.

StarTech nylon cable tie gun

Rank 7

StarTech nylon cable tie gun

∼£32

Our view

The StarTech N10MM-CABLE-TIE-GUN is the dearest tool in this set at £32.16 and 254 g, printed for nylon ties 2.4–4.8 mm wide and up to 1.6 mm thick, with a tension dial and a TAA-compliant line. Across 31 amazon.co.uk reviews it sits at 3.6; only two of the 29 texts are from the United Kingdom, and both want more pull than the dial gives. The rest of the sample is mostly US: some like the one-motion flush cut, one says the trigger reset failed after about ten minutes, and several say you still tighten by hand. Extra-thick ties can stall. You pay for a named compact nylon gun, but the UK evidence is two short notes and the score stays low.

Pros

  • Printed nylon range 2.4–4.8 mm with a tension dial
  • TAA-compliant claim and a 2-year warranty line
  • Compact at 254 g

Cons

  • Highest price in this set at £32.16
  • 3.6 from 31 reviews; only two UK texts, both want more tension
  • US note: trigger reset failed after about 10 minutes

Best for: You only fit 2.4–4.8 mm nylon ties and want a compact named gun with a dial.

Less suitable: You need a tight bundle, stainless ties, or a large UK review file.

The listing says any length, widths 2.4–4.8 mm, and thickness up to 1.6 mm.

Is the tension adjustable?

Yes. A tension dial on the handle is listed. UK reviews say the wheel takes practice and still may not pull as tight as you want.

LuLobtg stainless strap tensioner set

Rank 8

LuLobtg stainless strap tensioner set

∼£19

Our view

The LuLobtg set is £19.49 and 606 g, with a dual-slot jaw claimed for 0.3–1.2 mm stainless straps, a rebound spring, and a release tool. The included-components line names a cutter and a release tool; the bullets also name an adjustment screwdriver and a storage box, which that line does not repeat. There is no star rating and no review text on the amazon.co.uk listing, so nothing here confirms the rust-resistant claim or the clean-cut claim. You would be buying the seller’s description only, including a thicker-band range that the 0.3 mm guns in this set do not print. The listing prints a blue rubber handle, a forged alloy-steel jaw, and a 29 × 19 × 5 cm package, and it still does not put any ties in the box.

Pros

  • Printed thickness range 0.3–1.2 mm, wider than the 0.3 mm guns
  • Release tool is in the included-components line
  • £19.49 mid price if the claims hold

Cons

  • No star line and no review text
  • Included-components line and bullets disagree on the screwdriver and box
  • No ties in the box; performance claims are unreviewed

Best for: You need a claimed 1.2 mm band range and accept a listing with no reviews.

Less suitable: You want a scored amazon.co.uk review file before you buy.

How we compared

Eight cable tie pliers on amazon.co.uk were scored on 19 October 2026 from listing facts and review notes, not from a cut test. Amazon evidence, listing fit, review outcome and value are weighted 30, 35, 20 and 15. Deductions come off for a thin review file, notes that are mostly not from the United Kingdom, a leftover sharp tag, a spring that will not return, a plastic-tie mismatch, or a listing with no star line. A seller line such as HRC55 is not scored as a measured cut. Each star line stays the amazon.co.uk figure. The 0–100 score is not the stars times 20.

1

Amazon evidence

30%

The amazon.co.uk star average is the starting point, on a 0–30 scale, then a deduction when the count is small, when the first 50 texts are mostly not from the United Kingdom, or when there is no rating line at all.

2

Listing fit

35%

Up to 35 points for a named tie type, a printed width and thickness, and an honest note on whether ties are in the box. A listing that asks about plastic ties but does not answer, or that contradicts the jaw, loses points. A flush cutter with a named steel is scored as its own tool.

3

Review outcome

20%

Up to 20 points from UK notes that the tool tensions and leaves a usable cut. A leftover sharp tag, a spring that will not return, a plastic-tie mismatch, or a tool that cuts before the bundle is tight scores lower. Notes from outside the UK stay labelled as such.

4

Value

15%

Up to 15 points for the shelf price in GBP against one usable gun. A kit scores when the tie size is printed. A low price does not score when the jaw will not take the tie you own.

Cable tie pliers buying guide

Start with the tie material, then the printed width and thickness, then whether you can turn the tension down, then the cut at the head. Price comes after those four. The notes below follow that order for these eight amazon.co.uk listings, checked on 19 October 2026. None of the scores is a laboratory test.

What is a cable tie plier?

A cable tie plier, usually sold as a cable tie gun, pulls a cable tie tight and cuts the tail at the head. It is not a calibrated trade gun and it is not a pair of side cutters. On amazon.co.uk this set runs from about £10.99 to about £32.16. RS showed a HellermannTyton EVO7i at £291.52 excluding VAT (£349.82 including VAT) on 19 October 2026. That calibrated gun is a different buy. Tie material comes first. Nylon and stainless need different tools unless the listing says otherwise.

Best for

  • Occasional nylon ties, with a light gun tried first on a scrap tie
  • Panel work in 2.4–4.8 mm nylon when the listing prints that width
  • Stainless jobs when 4.6 mm ties in the printed length are the ties you will fit

Not ideal for

  • One tool for every tie, including reading 12 mm as nylon and stainless
  • Live work, or reading a cushion grip as insulation
  • A written tension in newtons when the gun publishes no scale

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

    One tool for every tie

Nylon and stainless need different jaws unless the listing says otherwise. A UK note on the Dechengbao CT03 limits it to thin metal ties. One plastic success on the QWORK CA5078 is not a certificate.

  2. 2

Reading 12 mm as every material

The stainless bullets here are 12 mm wide and 0.3 mm thick. Trade stainless tools are often limited to 7.9 mm. A high dial on a thin nylon tie crushes insulation.

  3. 3

Treating a printed number as a test

270 pounds on the Dechengbao kit, and an HRC figure on a blade line, are not independent tests. A budget dial is not the EVO7 scale of about 20 N to 165 N.

What to weigh up

Material, width and thickness

High

Everyday nylon is published around 2.4–4.8 mm. StarTech prints that width and thickness to 1.6 mm. Flytuo claims 2.4–9 mm. The stainless guns print 12 mm by 0.3 mm. LuLobtg claims 0.3–1.2 mm bands, which is a different jaw. The C.K T3970 prints no width and is a plastic flush cutter. Heavy nylon, often 7.6–13 mm on trade pages, is another tool. Buy a 200-tie kit only when 4.6 × 250 mm or 4.6 × 270 mm is the tie you will fit.

Cut, tension and the review file

High

A control you can turn down matters because over-tight nylon crushes insulation. The EVO7 manual’s 0–8 settings, about 20 N to 165 N, apply to that gun and its own ties. UK reviews still report a sharp leftover tag on the QWORK kit and the Dechengbao CT03. HSE EIS16 says remove sharp edges first. The Dechengbao tool-only listing is 4.5 from 823, with the first 50 texts from the United Kingdom. StarTech is 3.6 from 31, with two UK texts that want more pull. LuLobtg has no star line.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Occasional nylon ties

You fit plastic ties now and then and you want a light gun. The Flytuo HS-519 is about £10.99, printed for 2.4–9 mm, with 4.3 from 31 reviews. UK notes like the flush cut and call the bare metal handles tiring. Practise on a scrap tie. Several cheap guns arrive without instructions.

Panel nylon, 2.4–4.8 mm

You work in 2.4–4.8 mm nylon and you want that width printed. The StarTech gun is about £32.16, with a tension dial and 3.6 from 31 reviews. Only two UK texts are on the listing, and both want more pull. A documented newton scale is the EVO class, not this dial.

Stainless ties in the box

Outdoor, exhaust or any job that specifies stainless needs the lever tool, plus a plan for sharp offcuts. The QWORK WD10734 kit is about £19.98, with 200 ties of 4.6 × 250 mm and 4.6 from 159 reviews. Buy it when that length is the tie you will fit.

Common questions about cable tie pliers

Which cable tie pliers are the top pick in this set?
The top pick is the Dechengbao CT03 at about £17.99 on amazon.co.uk, 670 g, printed for stainless ties up to 12 mm wide and 0.3 mm thick, with no ties in the box. It has 4.5 from 823 reviews, and all of the first 50 texts are from the United Kingdom. UK notes say the nose leaves a sharp tag and the cutter-lever spring does not always return. The score uses those listing facts. It is not a laboratory test.
How much do cable tie pliers cost on amazon.co.uk?
In these eight listings, checked on 19 October 2026, prices run from about £10.99 to about £32.16. The Flytuo nylon gun is about £10.99. Stainless tool-only shelves are the QWORK CA5078 at about £14.85 and the Dechengbao CT03 at about £17.99. Kits with 200 stainless ties are about £19.98 and £27.99. The C.K T3970 flush cutter is about £26.99. The StarTech nylon gun is about £32.16. A HellermannTyton EVO7i at RS was £349.82 including VAT on the same date. These bands are this set, not a market average.
Do nylon and stainless ties use the same plier?
No, unless that listing says otherwise. The stainless guns here print up to 12 mm wide and 0.3 mm thick. A UK review of the Dechengbao CT03 says it is only for thin metal ties. A UK review of the QWORK CA5078 says that sample also worked on plastic, while other notes say the channel is too narrow for regular plastic ties. One review is not a compatibility certificate. The C.K T3970 is for plastic ties, and a UK note says to keep it off steel.
What width and thickness should you check?
Check a printed width and a printed thickness before you match a tie you already own. StarTech prints nylon 2.4–4.8 mm wide and up to 1.6 mm thick. Flytuo claims a cutting width of 2.4–9 mm. The stainless guns print 12 mm by 0.3 mm. The LuLobtg set claims bands 0.3–1.2 mm thick, which is a different jaw from a 0.3 mm gun. The C.K T3970 does not print a width. Trade stainless tools are often limited to 7.9 mm, so a 12 mm bullet is not every stainless tie.
Will the cut leave a sharp tail?
It can. Listings promise a clean cut. UK reviews of the QWORK kit and the Dechengbao CT03 still describe a sharp leftover tag. HSE EIS16 treats sharp metal as a handling injury and says remove sharp edges first. Gloves are a last resort and must not be worn near rotating machinery. HellermannTyton tells users of its EVO7 gun to wear safety glasses. A flush-cut note on the Flytuo is about plastic ties. It does not make a cut stainless tail safe to handle.
Is the tension dial a force in newtons?
No. HellermannTyton’s EVO7 manual lists settings 0–8 as about 20 N to 165 N for its own nylon ties. A numbered dial on a budget listing is not that scale. Loop tensile strength in BS EN IEC 62275 is a property of the tie, not the dial. The words 270 pounds on the Dechengbao kit are not an independent test. Both UK notes on the StarTech still want more pull than the dial gives.
Are these tools certified to BS 7671 or for live work?
No. BS EN IEC 62275:2019 covers cable ties, not the gun, and BSI says it does not assess the tie as electrical insulation. BS 7671 regulation 521.10.202 is about supporting cables so they do not collapse in a fire. Non-metallic ties must not be the only support where that applies. A steel gun is not 18th Edition certified. Cushion grips are not for live work. At work, PUWER 1998 still applies. See PUWER hand tools.
When should you call a competent person?
Call a competent person when the cable is part of a fixed installation you should not alter, when fire support is the question, when a failed tie sits on fuel, brakes or exhaust, or when the job needs a written tension and the gun publishes no scale. A cable tie gun does not replace that judgement. If the task is removing insulation rather than bundling the cable, that is a different tool: a wire stripper. Practise a new gun on a scrap tie before you commit a finished loom.

Our verdict

In this set of eight amazon.co.uk listings, the top pick is the Dechengbao CT03 stainless cable tie gun. It is about £17.99, with 4.5 from 823 reviews, and all of the first 50 texts are from the United Kingdom. It is printed for stainless ties up to 12 mm by 0.3 mm, with no ties in the box. UK notes include a leftover sharp tag and a cutter-lever spring that does not always return. The best value is the QWORK WD10734 kit at about £19.98, with 200 printed stainless ties of 4.6 × 250 mm and 4.6 from 159 reviews. UK notes call the cuts tidy and also mention an awkward first use and a sharp tail. The other six have no award. None of these scores is a laboratory test.
