Top pick: WZQH 40 cm cowhide gauntlet – Highest score: 4.7 from 26,149 reviews at about £16.99, 40 cm cowhide, 350°C for a short time, with the gardening skew already stated. Best value: Flintronic silicone gloves, about 30 cm – Lowest shelf price among rows at score 80 or above with at least 1,000 reviews: about £7.64, 4.2 from 1,926, if you accept a bulky fit. Updated 21.10.2026.
They split into silicone-grip gloves with an 800°C slogan, leather gauntlets around 350°C or up to 500°C, one neoprene pit glove, and one right-hand ø suede glove.
None of them prints a six-digit BS EN 407:2020 code, so an 800°C or 1,472°F title is a claim, not contact-heat level 4.
Many sampled reviews are about gardening, so the score is not proof it is the best grate glove. The [barbecue gloves buying guide](/hub/grill-accessories/barbecue-gloves/sub/barbecue-gloves-buying-guide) puts those checks in order.
A barbecue glove on this shelf is a heat glove for a grate, a chimney starter, a tray, greasy meat or a log. BS EN 407:2020 covers thermal gloves for work and home and excludes welding and firefighter gloves. The positions are limited flame spread, contact heat, convective heat, radiant heat, small molten splash and large molten metal. Contact-heat levels are 100°C, 250°C, 350°C and 500°C, each for at least 15 seconds. An 800°C or 1,472°F title is hotter wording than level 4, and level 4 is still only 500°C for at least 15 seconds before the inside rises 10°C. None of these twelve saved listings prints the six-digit code.

The WZQH gauntlet is 40 cm of 1.2 mm cowhide at £16.99 and 390 g, rated up to 662°F (350°C) for a short period, with a printed warning not to hold a heat source for long. Amazon.co.uk shows 4.7 from 26,149 reviews, the highest score in this set at 95, which is why it is the top pick on the star-and-volume method. Many sampled UK reviews are about roses, brambles, and holly, not a kettle barbecue, so that count is not proof it is the best grate glove. Reviewers who do talk about thickness say it is too much when a precise job needs a thinner pair. The water field says both not waterproof and water resistant, and care is hand wash only. Unit count is 1.0 and number of items is 1, while the title says gloves. Leave the heat if the palm warms up.
Pros
4.7 from 26,149 amazon.co.uk reviews, the highest score in this set
40 cm cowhide with a 350°C short-contact line
Double-sewn palm and Kevlar thread stated in the bullets
The listing tells you to move away when you feel heat
£16.99, below the RAPICCA leather pair
Cons
Many sampled reviews are gardening, not barbecue
Too thick for precise tong work, in reviewer comments
Unit count 1.0, so a pair is not clearly counted
Hand wash only, and the water fields disagree
Best for: You want the highest-scoring long cowhide cuff in this set for logs, thorns, or a short hot hold, and you have read the gardening skew.
Less suitable: You are choosing only on barbecue reviews, you need a confirmed pair, or you want five-finger grip for turning sausages.
Do not hold a heat source for long. The leather can char, and you should move away if you feel heat. The degree line is 350°C for a short period, not an open-ended hold.
Are the WZQH reviews mostly about barbecues?
Many sampled UK reviews are about thorns and gardening. The listing also names grill and fireplace use. The review count is not proof this is the best grate glove.
Is the WZQH listing clearly a pair?
Unit count is 1.0 and number of items is 1. The title uses the plural gloves. Treat a pair as unconfirmed until the parcel arrives.
The FSTIANXIA listing is a red silicone five-finger glove at £6.49 and 285 g, with a bullet that states up to 800°C / 1,472°F and no EN 407 code. Across 12 amazon.co.uk ratings at 4.7, one reviewer used the long cuffs to reach the back of an oven without burning an arm on the shelf, and another used them on a ceramic charcoal cooker. Two of the five UK review texts say not to use them for welding, even though the title lists welding. Care is machine wash or a wipe with a damp cloth. Number of items is 2 while unit count is 1.0, and no length is printed, so the cuff is a guess until the parcel arrives. Twelve ratings is a thin file next to the four-figure counts on this shelf. Treat the degree line as a slogan, not a pass.
Pros
£6.49, the lowest price in this set
4.7 from 12 amazon.co.uk ratings
Five-finger silicone grip, with oven and ceramic-cooker use in the UK reviews
Care line allows a machine wash or a damp wipe
285 g, lighter than the 14-inch leather gauntlets
Cons
Only 12 ratings, and five UK review texts
Two reviews say not to use them for welding
No printed length and no EN 407 code
Unit count 1.0 sits beside number of items 2
Best for: You want a cheap silicone pair for trays and a short reach into the oven, and you can live with a 12-rating file.
Less suitable: You need a printed cuff length, a welding glove, or a review count large enough to judge heat complaints.
Does the FSTIANXIA listing state a maximum temperature?
Yes. The bullet says up to 800°C / 1,472°F. No EN 407 code is printed. Treat that degree line as a slogan, not a pass.
Can the FSTIANXIA gloves be machine-washed?
The care line says machine wash or wipe with a damp cloth. No length is printed.
Do the UK reviews support welding use for FSTIANXIA?
The title lists welding. Two of the five UK reviews say not to use them for welding. There are 12 ratings in total, which is a thin file on this shelf.
The RAPICCA leather gloves are a 16-inch cowhide pair at £20.98 and 390 g, with 1.5 mm leather, an aluminium foil layer, and a cotton liner. The bullet states 662°F (350°C). The saved listing shows Ansi Isea Heat Level 350, which is not a BS EN 407 code. Amazon.co.uk shows 4.6 from 20,663 reviews. A UK review uses them for a Weber chimney starter and coals and says not to hold glowing metal or an open flame for long. The extra length is praised against sparks, and the thickness costs fine tong control. Care says do not wash, and they are not waterproof. The item type mentions welding, and no EN 12477 type is printed. Included components say 1 pair.
Pros
16 inches (40.6 cm), with a stated pair
4.6 from 20,663 amazon.co.uk reviews
UK review use on a Weber chimney starter and coals
1.5 mm cowhide plus a foil layer, thicker than the 1.2 mm leather rows
350°C is printed as a temperature, not only as 800°C marketing
Cons
A long hold on glowing metal or flame still gets through
Thick leather reduces fine finger control
Do not wash, and not waterproof
ANSI heat level 350 is not an EN 407 code, and welding is named without EN 12477
Best for: You lift a chimney starter, coals, or logs and you want a 40.6 cm pair with barbecue reviews, accepting a short hold.
Less suitable: You need to machine-wash grease off the glove, or you want thin fingers for precise tong work.
Is the ANSI heat field on the RAPICCA leather gloves an EN 407 code?
No. The saved listing shows Ansi Isea Heat Level 350. It does not show a BS EN 407 six-digit code. Welding is named on the item type, and EN 12477 is not printed.
Can the RAPICCA leather gloves be washed?
Product care says do not wash. That line belongs to this ASIN. Do not copy the cold machine-wash line from the vclpower leather listing.
What do barbecue reviews say about the RAPICCA leather pair?
A UK review uses them for a Weber chimney starter and coals, and says not to hold glowing metal or open flame for long. The extra length is praised against sparks.
The RAPICCA neoprene gloves are a 17-inch pair at £29.99 and 520 g, the longest and heaviest listing here, at 43.2 × 25.4 cm. The title says 932°F and the bullet says heat up to 500°C, with a waterproof neoprene coating and oil resistance claimed. Amazon.co.uk shows 4.6 from 18,987 reviews. Reviewers report barbecue use without a skin burn, including Christmas cooking, and contrast them with knitted gloves that burned when wet. The same reviews say the heat soon builds on a hot grate and to be quick. A large brand label annoyed at least one buyer, and before hot liquid the listing asks for a cold-water test for defects. Care is wipe, hand wash, and air dry, not a machine wash, and the unit count is 2.0.
Pros
43.2 cm neoprene, the longest cuff in this set
4.6 from 18,987 amazon.co.uk reviews
Waterproof coating and oil resistance are claimed, unlike the leather rows
Reviewers use them wet, where a knitted glove had burned
Cold-water check is printed before you trust them with hot liquid
Cons
£29.99, the highest price in this set
Heat still builds if you linger on a grate
A large brand label could not be removed, in one review
Hand wash and air dry only, and 520 g is heavy on the hand
Best for: You handle wet, greasy meat or hot liquid and you want the only listing here that claims a waterproof coating.
Less suitable: You want a cheap dry-grate glove, a machine wash, or a long hold on a hot grate.
Are the RAPICCA neoprene gloves described as waterproof?
Yes. The bullets claim a waterproof neoprene coating and oil resistance. That claim is on this listing only in this set. It is still a listing claim, not a lab result.
What check does the neoprene listing ask for before hot liquid?
A cold-water test for defective gloves. Do that check before you trust the coating with hot liquid.
Do reviews say you can linger on a hot grate in the neoprene gloves?
No. Reviewers say the heat soon builds and to be quick. The 500°C bullet is not a licence for a long hold.
The Weber 17896 is a black leather pair at £27.53 and 399 g, sold as 2 count in a pack of 1, with a hanging loop and a two-year guarantee on manufacturing defects for the Weber barbecue accessory range. The bullets say heat-resistant and do not give a degree figure, so this is not the Weber Premium glove that Weber's own site tests to 250°C. Amazon.co.uk shows 4.6 from 1,625 reviews. Reviewers call them proper barbecue gloves with a heavy-duty feel for charcoal grilling. One rotisserie review felt burning on the fingers in about 10 seconds when taking a chicken off the fork. Another says the stiff leather makes utensils hard to hold. Care is hand wash, and they are not waterproof. Origin is India.
Pros
Weber model 17896, a leather pair made for grilling
4.6 from 1,625 amazon.co.uk reviews
Two-year guarantee on manufacturing defects, as stated in the bullet
Ambidextrous, with a hanging loop
Reviewers describe a heavy-duty feel for charcoal grilling
Cons
No temperature is printed
One review: burning on the fingers in about 10 seconds on a rotisserie fork
Stiff leather makes utensils harder to hold
Hand wash only, not waterproof, and £27.53 without a heat figure
Best for: You want a Weber-branded leather pair for ordinary charcoal grilling and you accept that no degree line is on the listing.
Less suitable: You need a printed temperature, a machine wash, or the Weber Premium aramid glove with a 250°C test.
None. The bullets say heat-resistant and do not give a degree figure. This is not the Weber Premium aramid glove that Weber's own site tests to 250°C.
Are the Weber 17896 gloves machine-washable?
No. Product care says hand wash. They are not waterproof.
What heat complaint is in the Weber 17896 reviews?
One reviewer felt burning on the fingers in about 10 seconds when taking a chicken off a rotisserie fork. Another says the stiff leather makes utensils hard to hold.
The vclpower gauntlet is a 14-inch leather glove at £10.19 and 368 g, with 1.2 mm leather, Kevlar stitching, and a cotton lining. The rating field says up to 500°C, and the bullets limit that to short exposure and exclude industrial high-heat welding and molten metal. Amazon.co.uk shows 4.5 from 960 reviews. Reviewers place logs in a burner and praise forearm cover, including a buyer who wears a size 9. At least two comments call them stiff, and large is too big for some hands. A welder working above 300 A reported holes and failed stitching after eight days, which is the use the listing tells you not to do. Care is a cold machine wash and air dry, unlike the other leather rows. The colour field says brown and the size field also says blue.
Pros
£10.19, the cheapest leather gauntlet in this set
4.5 from 960 amazon.co.uk reviews
14 inches (35.6 cm) with a wing thumb
Up to 500°C is printed with a short-exposure limit
Cold machine wash is stated, which the other leather rows do not offer
Cons
Not for industrial welding; one heavy-welding review reports holes after eight days
Stiff, and large for some hands
Colour fields disagree (brown and blue), and unit count is 1.0
Not waterproof
Best for: You move logs on a burner and want a 14-inch leather cuff at about £10, with a printed short-exposure limit.
Less suitable: You weld at high amperage, need a confirmed pair count, or want a five-finger silicone glove for turning food.
Are the vclpower gauntlets for industrial welding?
No. The bullets limit them to short heat exposure and exclude industrial high-heat welding and molten metal. One review of work above 300 A reported holes and failed stitching after eight days.
How should the vclpower gauntlets be washed?
The care line says machine wash in cold water and air dry. That instruction is for this listing. Do not copy it onto RAPICCA leather, which says do not wash.
Which colour is listed for vclpower?
The colour field says brown and the size field also says blue. Both are in the saved listing. Unit count is 1.0, so a pair is not confirmed.
The Morsø 62900700 is one right-hand leather glove at £19.00 and 150 g, measuring 36 × 18 cm, with a side loop and an integrated magnet. No degree figure is printed. Amazon.co.uk shows 4.5 from 511 reviews, and the texts are mostly inset wood burners and log placement rather than a full barbecue service. Several call the heat resistance good for stove work, and one calls it poor, so you have no listing temperature to check that split against. The other hand stays bare. One reviewer marked their nails on the inner surface and wore a second glove underneath, and a tag on an elastic cord is a burn risk if it stays inside the cuff. Care is a wipe with a damp cloth. The title says black and the colour field says Steel.
Pros
36 cm single glove with a magnet and a side loop
4.5 from 511 amazon.co.uk reviews, mostly stove and log use
150 g, the lightest listing in this set
Made by Morsø Jernstøberi A/S, model 62900700
Wipe-clean care, with no machine-wash promise to break
Cons
Right hand only, so the left hand is bare
No printed temperature
One review calls heat resistance poor, and another says it is not very robust
A tag left inside the cuff is described as a burn risk
Best for: You only need the right hand for logs on a stove or a fire, and a magnet on the glove is useful.
Less suitable: You need both hands, a stated temperature, or a pair for turning food on a grill.
No. The listing is one right-hand glove, 36 × 18 cm. The other hand stays bare. Do not assume a pair from the word glove.
Is a temperature printed for the Morsø glove?
No degree figure is in the bullets or the technical fields. Reviews split between good heat resistance for stove work and one call of poor resistance, with no listing temperature to check that against.
How does the Morsø glove hang?
The bullet states a side loop and an integrated magnet. A tag left inside the cuff is described in one review as a burn risk.
The Primajor gloves are a red aramid and silicone pair at £14.99 and 350 g, with a 14-inch bullet and dimensions of 35.1 × 19.1 cm. The heat line is up to 1,472°F / 800°C, and the bullet says EN 407 certified without the six-digit code. Amazon.co.uk shows 4.4 from 4,151 reviews, and the texts sit closer to ovens and barbecues than the gardening pile on the highest-scoring leather gauntlet. Reviewers pick up dropped food near the grill and say not to linger, and one says heat comes through faster than other brands on a long hold. They swamp some hands, and the double lining is fiddly to put on. Care appears as both hand wash and machine wash. Unit count 25.0 gram conflicts with the 350 g item weight, so ignore that field.
Pros
4.4 from 4,151 amazon.co.uk reviews, mostly oven and barbecue use
14 inches, with dimensions 35.1 × 19.1 cm
Five fingers for forks and Dutch-oven handles
Reviewers can wash them
£14.99 for the largest silicone-grip review file in this set
Cons
EN 407 is claimed with no code
Heat transfers quickly on a long hold, in one comparison with other brands
Very large; one review says they swamp a husband's hands
Hand wash and machine wash both appear, and unit count 25.0 gram conflicts with 350 g
Best for: You turn food and lift oven dishes and you want five fingers, a printed 14-inch cuff, and a large barbecue review file.
Less suitable: You have small hands, you need a contact-heat code, or the job is a long hold on a grate.
The bullet says a 14-inch pair. Dimensions are 35.1 × 19.1 cm. That is a printed length, unlike several silicone rows at a similar price.
What do Primajor reviews say about heat?
Reviewers use them for the oven and barbecue, and one says heat comes through faster than other brands on a long hold. The 800°C line is still a claim without an EN 407 code.
Is steam protection stated for Primajor?
No measured steam result is in the file. The bullets claim a cotton lining and a long cuff. Care appears as both hand wash and machine wash.
The yenlk gloves are a black aramid and silicone pair at £8.99 and 280 g, listed at 33 × 18 cm, with a bullet of up to 1,472°F (800°C) and no EN 407 code. Amazon.co.uk shows 4.3 from 106 reviews. Reviewers use them to lift hot roasting trays and for light barbecue work, and one mentions wallpaper steaming as well as the grill. The same file calls the fit massive and unwieldy, including at the barbecue, and one review would not recommend them for extreme heat. Melt appears often enough to record as a complaint, without one shared cause. Care lines include both hand wash and machine wash. A 33 cm cuff is useful on a tray, and it is a clumsy glove if your hand is already small.
Pros
33 × 18 cm, a printed length between the 30 cm Flintronic and the 14-inch pairs
4.3 from 106 amazon.co.uk reviews
Aramid middle with silicone strips, either hand
Reviewers lift roasting trays without the burn they expected
£8.99, still in the under-£10 band
Cons
Reviews call the fit massive, heavy, and unwieldy
One review rejects them for extreme heat
Melt is a repeated complaint theme, with no single cause stated
Hand wash and machine wash both appear, so the care line is not one instruction
Best for: You want a 33 cm silicone-grip pair for trays and moderate oven heat, and you have large hands.
Less suitable: You have smaller hands, or you wanted a glove the reviews accept for extreme heat.
The dimension line says 33 × 18 cm. That sits between the about-30 cm Flintronic cuff and the 14-inch pairs.
What do UK reviews say about yenlk fit?
Reviews call the fit massive and unwieldy. One review does not recommend them for extreme heat. Melt is a repeated complaint theme, with no single cause stated.
Is an EN 407 code printed for yenlk?
No. The bullet states 1,472°F (800°C) without a six-digit code. The score sits under 80 because the review file is 106 ratings.
The Houbobo gloves are a red silicone and aramid pair at £14.99 and 310 g, with a bullet of instant heat resistance up to 800°C and a warning to avoid open flames and prolonged extreme heat. No EN 407 code and no length are in the file. Amazon.co.uk shows 4.3 from 70 reviews. Reviewers cite the silicone pattern for barbecue grip and use them on oven and air-fryer edges, and the hanging loop gets a mention. More than one review says they are very big. One buyer returned a pair as cheap and rubbery, and another says they do not match the higher temperatures in the description. Care is machine wash. Seventy ratings is a smaller sample than Primajor at the same price.
Pros
Silicone pattern that reviewers use for barbecue grip
Machine-wash care line, plus a hanging loop
4.3 from 70 amazon.co.uk reviews
Listing warns you off open flames and a long extreme hold
Pair count is consistent: two pieces and unit count 2.0
Cons
£14.99 with only 70 ratings, beside Primajor's 4,151 at the same price
Reviews call them very big
One return describes them as cheap and rubbery
No printed length and no EN 407 code
Best for: You want a washable red silicone pair with a hanging loop for oven edges and a short barbecue grip, and large gloves do not bother you.
Less suitable: You want the 14-inch length Primajor prints, a larger review file at £14.99, or a glove for open flame.
The Flintronic gloves are a black five-finger pair at £7.64 and about 250 g, with bullets of about 30 cm overall and about 12.5 cm from wrist to arm. The heat line is open flames up to 1,472°F (800°C) for up to 10 seconds, and the file mentions an SGS certificate without an EN 407 code. Amazon.co.uk shows 4.2 from 1,926 reviews, and reviewers use them on oven shelves and a hot barbecue rack. Fit splits the file: some call them bulky or too big, and other titles say undersized or so small. One review says they cannot handle the heat as claimed, so the 10-second line is still a claim. Care is wipe with a damp cloth, not a machine wash. At this price, with more than 1,000 reviews, they are the best value in the set if a long silicone cuff is the job.
Pros
£7.64 with 4.2 from 1,926 amazon.co.uk reviews
About 30 cm overall, the shortest stated cuff that is still printed
Flame line is limited to 10 seconds, unlike an open 800°C slogan
Five-finger grip that reviewers use on racks and oven shelves
Cotton lining called comfortable in reviews
Cons
Fit is inconsistent: too big in some reviews, too small in others
One review says they miss the heat claim
Wipe only; machine wash is not the care line
No EN 407 code, only an SGS mention
Best for: You want the cheapest long silicone cuff in this set that still has a four-figure review file, and you will check the fit on your own hand.
Less suitable: You need a predictable size, a machine-wash line, or a leather cuff for coals and a chimney starter.
The care instruction is wipe with a damp cloth. Machine wash is not stated. Do not copy a machine-wash line from another silicone listing onto this ASIN.
How long is the Flintronic cuff?
The bullet says about 30 cm overall and about 12.5 cm from wrist to arm. The dimension line is 29 × 17.5 cm.
What heat time is printed for Flintronic?
Open flames up to 1,472°F (800°C) for up to 10 seconds. No EN 407 code is in the file. One review says they miss the heat claim.
The Beesgarden gloves are a black aramid and silicone pair at £12.99 and 290 g, with a bullet of up to 1,472°F and the words EN 407 certification. The saved listing does not include the six numbers or letters. Amazon.co.uk shows 4.2 from 1,370 reviews. Reviewers describe a thick feel with enough flex to grip near grease, and several use them as a stand-in for oven mitts. One UK review reports holes in the fingers after three months and says the heat protection then failed. Fit is not settled: one review calls them tight, and others record a loose fit, and no length is printed. Care is machine wash. The EN 407 words are not a level 4 result.
Pros
4.2 from 1,370 amazon.co.uk reviews
Silicone grip that reviews use near grease, plus an aramid middle
Machine wash is the care line
Either hand, with a pair in the item count
£12.99, below the 14-inch Primajor
Cons
EN 407 is claimed with no six-digit code
One review: finger holes after three months, then heat protection fails
No length is printed
Fit is tight for one reviewer and loose for others
Best for: You want a washable silicone-grip pair for barbecue and oven mitts, and you will retire them if the fingers hole.
Less suitable: You need a printed length, a code you can read as contact-heat level 4, or a cuff for lifting coals.
Is an EN 407 performance code shown for Beesgarden?
The bullet says EN 407 certification. The saved listing does not include the six numbers or letters. Those words are not contact-heat level 4.
What failed in the Beesgarden reviews?
One UK review reports holes in the fingers after three months and says heat protection then failed. Retire a holed glove rather than keep using the degree slogan.
Are the Beesgarden gloves machine-washable?
Yes. Product care says machine wash. No length is printed, and fit is tight for one reviewer and loose for others.
How we compared
Twelve amazon.co.uk listings were scored on 20 October 2026 from the prices, star lines and review notes already on these rows. Not a laboratory test. A star rating is not a BS EN 407 result. None of these listings prints a six-digit EN 407 code, so an 800°C or 1,472°F title stays a claim. The score is the amazon.co.uk star share, weighted 80, plus a review-volume band of up to 20. No equipment, price or sentiment block was added. That is why a gardening-heavy file can outscore a smaller barbecue file. The highest score is the top pick. Best value is the lowest shelf price on a different ASIN that still scores at least 80 and has at least 1,000 reviews.
1
Stars
80%
Four-fifths of the amazon.co.uk star share, round(stars / 5 × 80). A 4.7 contributes 75 points before the volume band. Stars are a listing fact, not a burn test.
2
Review volume
20%
Up to 20 points, so the band cannot push a 5.0 past 100. Under 50 reviews stays near the bottom. About 1,000 reviews sits in the mid-teens. About 20,000 reviews takes the cap.

Barbecue gloves buying guide
These twelve listings are heat gloves for a grate, a tray, greasy meat, a log or a short lift, checked on amazon.co.uk on 20 October 2026. The prices run from about £6.49 to about £29.99. The score ranks stars and review volume. It does not rank a laboratory burn test. Use the job, the printed length, the pair count and the care line to choose. An 800°C title is a claim until a six-digit BS EN 407:2020 code is on the listing, and none of these files prints that code.
What is a barbecue glove?
A barbecue glove on this shelf is a heat glove for a grate, a chimney starter, a tray, greasy meat or a log. It is not a laboratory safety class, and it is not a welding glove.
Best for
You turn food and want five fingers free, and you will treat 800°C as a slogan
You move coals, a chimney starter or logs and you will keep the hold short
Not ideal for
Welding, or anyone reading an 800°C title as EN 407 level 4
A long hold on a grate, or a pair when the listing is one right-hand glove
Mistakes to avoid
1
Reading 1,472°F as a higher test than 932°F
1,472°F is 800°C. 932°F is 500°C. The higher number is a conversion, not a stricter test. Contact-heat level 4 is 500°C for at least 15 seconds. None of these listings prints the code that would show that level.
2
Treating EN 407 words as level 4
Beesgarden and Primajor say EN 407 and do not print the six digits. Flintronic mentions an SGS certificate and still has no code. RAPICCA leather shows an ANSI heat field, which is not BS EN 407. A slogan is not a performance level.
3
Washing the wrong leather, or assuming a pair
RAPICCA leather says do not wash. vclpower's cold machine wash belongs to that ASIN only. Morsø is one right-hand glove. WZQH's review count is not barbecue proof: many sampled reviews are about gardening.
What to weigh up
Job and contact time
High
The first check is the job. Turning food wants five fingers and grip. Primajor, at about £14.99, is the silicone-grip row with 4.4 from 4,151 reviews and a printed 14-inch cuff. The review texts sit closer to ovens and barbecues than the gardening pile on the highest-scoring leather gauntlet. Lifting a grate or a chimney starter wants a cuff and a short hold.
Material, length, pair and care
High
Leather is thick and often wipe or hand wash only. RAPICCA leather says do not wash. Do not copy vclpower's cold machine-wash line onto the other leather ASINs. vclpower, at about £10.19, is the 14-inch leather row that prints cold machine wash and air dry, and up to 500°C for short exposure only. WZQH is hand wash only. Weber 17896 is hand wash, and the bullets give no temperature. Silicone-grip gloves are usually machine-washable in the listing and often described as large.
Which option suits you?
Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.
🍴
Turning food
You turn food and want fingers free. A silicone-grip pair such as the Primajor 14-inch gloves, about £14.99, has 4.4 from 4,151 reviews and texts that sit closer to ovens and barbecues. Read 800°C as a slogan. Heat still comes through on a long hold, and the gloves swamp some hands.
You move coals, a chimney starter or logs, and you will keep the hold short. The RAPICCA 16-inch leather pair, about £20.98, has a UK review on a Weber chimney starter and coals, with 4.6 from 20,663 reviews. The listing says do not wash, and a long hold on glowing metal still gets through.
You only need the right hand for logs on a stove or a fire. The Morsø 62900700 is one right-hand suede glove, 36 cm, about £19.00, with 4.5 from 511 reviews and no stated temperature. A magnet and a side loop are on the listing. The other hand stays bare.
The top pick on this page is the WZQH 40 cm cowhide gauntlet, about £16.99, with 4.7 from 26,149 amazon.co.uk reviews. The score is four-fifths of the star share plus a review-volume band, not a burn test. Many sampled reviews are about thorns and gardening, so the score does not prove it is the best grate glove. It prints 350°C for a short time and tells you to move away if the palm feels hot.
How much do barbecue gloves cost?
On 20 October 2026 the twelve amazon.co.uk prices ran from about £6.49 to about £29.99. Under £10: FSTIANXIA, Flintronic and yenlk. From £10 to £20: vclpower, Beesgarden, Houbobo, Primajor, WZQH and the Morsø single glove. From £20 to £30: RAPICCA leather, Weber 17896 and RAPICCA neoprene. These are shelf prices for these ASINs, not a market average. A dearer Weber aramid glove on Weber's own site is not model 17896.
What should you check before you buy barbecue gloves?
Check the job first. Turning food wants five fingers. A grate, a chimney starter or logs want a cuff and a short hold. Then read contact time, not the degree slogan. If the palm feels hot, let go. Check whether the listing is a pair, one right-hand glove, or an unclear unit count, and whether a length is printed. None of these twelve shows a six-digit BS EN 407:2020 code. Care lines differ, and RAPICCA leather says do not wash.
Does 800°C mean EN 407 level 4?
No. Contact-heat level 4 in BS EN 407:2020 is 500°C for at least 15 seconds before the inside of the glove rises 10°C. An 800°C or 1,472°F title on these listings is a slogan. None of the twelve files prints the six-digit code. Beesgarden and Primajor use the words EN 407 without the digits. SATRA notes that a high thermal claim also needs limited flame spread of at least level 3, or the ceiling is level 2.
Are these barbecue gloves sold as a pair?
Not all of them. Morsø B00IM50T1A is one right-hand glove, 36 × 18 cm. RAPICCA leather says 1 pair, and the neoprene unit count is 2.0. WZQH has unit count 1.0 while the title says gloves. FSTIANXIA lists number of items 2 and unit count 1.0. vclpower also has unit count 1.0. Read the pair line on the ASIN you are buying. Do not assume two gloves because the title uses the plural.
Can you wash barbecue gloves?
Only on the care line for that ASIN. RAPICCA leather says do not wash. vclpower says a cold machine wash and air dry, and that line does not transfer to the other leather rows. WZQH and Weber 17896 are hand wash. Flintronic and Morsø are wipe with a damp cloth. Beesgarden and Houbobo say machine wash. yenlk and Primajor show both hand wash and machine wash, so follow the label in the parcel if the listing disagrees with itself.
Do barbecue gloves replace a long tool on a chimney starter?
No. A glove is for a short hold. A UK review of the RAPICCA leather pair uses them on a Weber chimney starter and coals and says not to hold glowing metal or an open flame for long. RoSPA still wants heat-resistant gloves and long tools, and no barbecue in a tent, garage, balcony or awning. Cool a burn for at least 20 minutes. For the starter itself, see the chimney starter comparison. Call 999 for a barbecue fire.
When should you stop and get help?
Stop if the glove is holed or charred, including the Beesgarden review of finger holes after three months. Get help for real welding, which wants BS EN 12477 that these listings do not show. A serious burn needs cooling under running water for at least 20 minutes, then medical help. A barbecue fire is a 999 call, as RoSPA states. At work, glove choice is an employer assessment under the PPE rules, not a shopping score. HSE also notes that thicker gloves cost you dexterity.
Our verdict
The top pick is the WZQH 40 cm cowhide at about £16.99. It is the highest score, 95, from 4.7 and 26,149 amazon.co.uk reviews, with a 350°C line limited to a short time. Many sampled reviews are about gardening, so the score is not proof it is the best grate glove, and the unit count does not clearly show a pair. The best value is the Flintronic pair at about £7.64. It is the lowest price among rows that score at least 80 and have at least 1,000 reviews, here 4.2 from 1,926, with an 800°C flame line limited to 10 seconds. Fit is bulky for some reviewers and too small for others. No score here is an EN 407 level or a claim that any pair will hold 800°C.
