Pond membrane comparison 2026

The best pond membranes, compared.

Top pick: YQBFTC pond liner, 3 x 2 m, 0.2 mm Best value: PondKraft pond liner, 4 x 3 m – Best price per square metre of stated 0.35 mm LDPE: about £22.99 for 12 m², about £1.92 a square metre. Updated October 2026.

Peter F.Editor

A pond membrane is the flexible sheet that holds water in a dug hole, a half-barrel or a raised trough. On amazon.co.uk this set is twelve polyethylene films, mostly a stated 0.1–0.25 mm, plus two LDPE sheets at a stated 0.35 mm. It is not the butyl or EPDM the RHS and the describe. You separate the listings by the thickness a bullet prints, by clashes between the title and the bullets, and by UK reviews that describe a first-night puncture. A koi pond around a metre deep is outside this set. How thickness, clashes and price bands sit in order is in the [pond membrane buying guide](/hub/garden-ponds/pond-membrane/sub/pond-membrane-buying-guide). UK reviews compare some of those sheets to a rubble sack or a bin bag. HDPE on a contractor page can mean a thicker welded sheet. States 200 gsm, which is weight, not millimetres. Several cheap titles stack HDPE, rubber, PVC and underlay in one line. Where the title and the bullets disagree, both lines stay as printed.

A pond membrane is the flexible sheet that holds water in a dug hole, a half-barrel or a raised trough.

The best pond membranes in detail

YQBFTC pond liner, 3 x 2 m, 0.2 mm

Rank 1

YQBFTC pond liner, 3 x 2 m, 0.2 mm

∼£10

Our view

The YQBFTC CTCD-3*2-1 is a polyethylene sheet at about £10.39. The bullets state 0.2 mm, and the dimension line is 300 x 200 x 0.02 cm and 1.16 kg, which matches a 3 m by 2 m sheet. The listing is 4.8 from 6 amazon.co.uk reviews, and only four UK texts are on file. Those four say the sheet was great, that the thickness felt satisfactory, or that it lined a pallet compost bin, and one buyer was planning a raised pond and had not filled it. None of the four describes a puncture, which is too small a set to treat 4.8 as a durability result. The title also stacks tarpaulin, underlay, preformed liner and membrane, while the bullets describe one sheet. Fleece is not listed. The score is 51, not a laboratory test.

Pros

  • 0.2 mm on the bullets, and the dimension line matches 3 m by 2 m
  • Listed weight 1.16 kg agrees with that size
  • None of the four UK texts describes a puncture
  • About £10.39 for the stated 6 square metres

Cons

  • 4.8 from 6 reviews, with only four UK texts in the file
  • One of those buyers had not filled the raised pond yet
  • Title says underlay; fleece is not listed
  • Too few texts to read the star line as a durability result

Best for: You want a 3 m by 2 m polyethylene sheet with 0.2 mm printed and a dimension line that matches, and you can accept a six-review sample.

Less suitable: You are treating 4.8 as proof it will last, or you expect fleece because the title says underlay.

Common questions

Is underlay in the box?

The title uses the word underlay. The bullets describe one polyethylene sheet and say no tools are needed. Fleece is not listed.

How thick is the stated sheet?

The bullets say 0.2 mm. The dimension line is 300 x 200 x 0.02 cm and 1.16 kg, which matches a 3 m by 2 m sheet.

How many UK reviews are in the file?

Four UK texts. The listing line is 4.8 from 6. None of the four describes a puncture. That is too small a set to treat as a durability result.

PondKraft pond liner, 3 x 2.5 m

Rank 2

PondKraft pond liner, 3 x 2.5 m

∼£15

Our view

The PondKraft L25Y030X025AMZ1 is a 3 m by 2.5 m sheet at about £14.99. The bullets say tri-laminate LDPE, 0.35 mm, a minimum of 200 g/m², a UV and rot-resistant coating on each side, and a black/brown reversible face. The title prints a 25-year guarantee and names koi and fish pools. These bullets do not mention underlay, and no fleece is in the box. The amazon.co.uk line is 4.7 from 405 reviews, the same line, rank and UK texts as the 4 m by 3 m PondKraft, including dates from 2012 and 2020, before this ASIN’s first-available date of 4 June 2024. In that shared pool, buyers say the brown side looks better against soil, that the sheet held water for months, and that it felt thicker than the thin films. The complaints are that it is thinner than a thick rubber liner, that one sheet measured short, and that a join opened after four days and again after four weeks. It is the top pick at 79 because the stated 0.35 mm, the LDPE wording and the price sit together. That score is not a laboratory test of this cut alone, and it is not butyl.

Pros

  • Bullets state 0.35 mm LDPE tri-laminate and at least 200 g/m²
  • About £14.99 for a stated 3 m by 2.5 m, package weight 1.25 kg
  • Shared UK texts say it held water for months and felt thicker than thin film
  • Black/brown reversible face; buyers mention the brown side against soil

Cons

  • The 405 reviews, the rank and the UK texts are shared with the 4 m by 3 m cut
  • Review dates go back to 2012 and 2020, before this listing’s June 2024 date
  • One sheet measured short, and one join opened after four days and again after four weeks
  • No fleece is listed, and the texts call it thinner than thick rubber

Best for: You want the stated 0.35 mm LDPE in this set for a modest dig, at about £14.99, and you will buy underlay separately.

Less suitable: You need butyl, a review pool that belongs only to the 3 m by 2.5 m cut, or a koi pond around a metre deep.

Common questions

Is this butyl?

Not on this listing. The bullets say tri-laminate LDPE, 0.35 mm and 200 g/m², with a coating on each side. Do not treat the sheet as butyl or as a welded geomembrane.

Does the 25-year line include underlay?

The title prints a 25-year guarantee. These bullets do not mention underlay, and no fleece is listed. The line is not a measured lifespan.

Are the 405 reviews about this size only?

No. The same 4.7 from 405 and the same UK texts are on the 4 m by 3 m PondKraft ASIN. Some dates are before June 2024.

PondKraft pond liner, 4 x 3 m

Rank 3

PondKraft pond liner, 4 x 3 m

∼£23

Our view

The PondKraft L25Y040X030AMZ is the 4 m by 3 m cut at about £22.99, with the same bullets as the 3 m by 2.5 m sheet: tri-laminate LDPE, 0.35 mm, 200 g/m², a coating on each side, and a 25-year line on the title. No product-dimension line and no weight are printed. The 4.7 from 405, the Garden rank and the UK texts match the smaller ASIN, including the short measurement and the join that opened, and you cannot tell which cut those reviewers held. At about £22.99 for the stated 12 square metres, the sheet is about £1.92 a square metre, against about £2.00 a square metre on the about £14.99 cut of 7.5 square metres. That is the best price per square metre of stated 0.35 mm LDPE in this set, which is why it is the best value here. It is still the same shared review pool rather than a second test. Fleece is not listed. The score is 76, not a laboratory test.

Pros

  • 4 m by 3 m of stated 0.35 mm LDPE tri-laminate at about £22.99
  • About £1.92 a square metre, the lowest here for that stated thickness
  • Same bullet wording as the smaller PondKraft, including 200 g/m²
  • Shared pool includes sheets said to have held water for months

Cons

  • No weight and no product-dimension line
  • The 405 reviews cannot be read as this cut only
  • The shared complaints, a short sheet and a join that opened, apply here too
  • You pay about £22.99 even if you only need the 7.5 square metre cut

Best for: You need about 12 square metres of the same stated 0.35 mm LDPE and you are comparing price per square metre.

Less suitable: You only need 7.5 square metres, you need a printed weight, or you are reading the 405 reviews as this cut alone.

Common questions

How is this different from the £14.99 PondKraft?

The title size is 4 m by 3 m instead of 3 m by 2.5 m, and the price is about £22.99. The bullets match, including 0.35 mm LDPE tri-laminate and 200 g/m².

Is there a weight on this listing?

No product-dimension line and no weight are printed in the technical block. The smaller PondKraft cut lists a package weight of 1.25 kg.

Can the 405 reviews be read as this cut only?

No. They are the same texts and the same 4.7 from 405 as the 3 m by 2.5 m ASIN, including dates before this listing.

GARDENIX pond liner, 1 x 1 m, 200 gsm

Rank 4

GARDENIX pond liner, 1 x 1 m, 200 gsm

Our view

The GARDENIX G/PONDLINER_B_1x1 is a 1 m by 1 m sheet sold at 200 gsm and about £6.72, with a listed weight of 190 g and no polymer named. The dimension line also prints 100 x 100 x 0.2 cm. That 0.2 cm is not read here as 2 mm, because a 1 square metre sheet at 200 gsm should weigh about 200 g, close to the 190 g line. The amazon.co.uk line is 4.3 from 165 reviews. In the UK texts, buyers describe a small fountain, a Belfast sink, a half barrel and a wildlife pond when spare weed membrane went underneath. Complaints say it feels like a tarp, leaked, holed or tore, and one asks where the underlay is. The bullets tell you to use underlay, to add depth to length and width with at least 50 cm of overlap, and not to cut until the liner is full. Fleece is not in the box. Some texts discuss a 3 m by 3 m sheet, so they may belong to another size. The score is 55, not a laboratory test.

Pros

  • 1 m by 1 m at about £6.72, a size used for a sink, half barrel or small fountain
  • 4.3 from 165 reviews
  • Listed weight 190 g sits close to 200 gsm across 1 square metre
  • Bullets say not to cut until the liner is full, and to allow at least 50 cm of overlap

Cons

  • 200 gsm is weight, not a millimetre thickness, and no polymer is named
  • UK texts report leaks, holes, tears, and a butler sink that did not stay waterproof
  • Underlay is advised and not in the box
  • Some reviews appear to describe other sizes, including a 3 m by 3 m sheet

Best for: You are lining a sink, half barrel or other small container, and you will add underlay yourself.

Less suitable: You need a millimetre thickness, fleece in the box, or a dug pond larger than 1 m by 1 m.

Common questions

Is 200 gsm a thickness?

No. It is grams per square metre. The listing weight is 190 g. The dimension line also prints 0.2 cm, which is not read here as 2 mm.

Is underlay included?

The bullets tell you to use underlay. They do not list fleece in the box. One review asks where the underlay is.

When do the bullets say to cut it?

Not until the liner is full of water. They also say to add depth to length and width and at least 50 cm of overlap.

aotuo0608 pond liner, 0.2 mm title

Rank 5

aotuo0608 pond liner, 0.2 mm title

∼£10

Our view

The aotuo0608 at2512 is listed at about £9.59. The title says 2 m by 2 m by 0.2 mm and also rubber, underlay and preformed, while the bullets say HDPE. The dimension line says 300 x 200 x 0.02 cm and 690 g, which reads as 3 m by 2 m by 0.2 mm rather than 2 m by 2 m. Both size lines stay on the page, and fleece is not listed. The amazon.co.uk line is 4.2 from 22 reviews, with seven UK texts. One lined a zinc bath for a couple of months without leaks, one says it had already split, one calls it surprisingly elastic, and another says a fingernail went through it and compares it to a rubble sack. The file disagrees with itself, so neither thickness story is treated as the result. The score is 39, not a laboratory test.

Pros

  • 0.2 mm appears on the title and on the dimension line
  • One UK text says a zinc bath held for a couple of months
  • Another text calls the sheet surprisingly elastic
  • 4.2 from 22 reviews, at about £9.59

Cons

  • Title says 2 m by 2 m; the dimension line says 3 m by 2 m
  • Title says rubber; the bullets say HDPE
  • Title says underlay; fleece is not listed
  • UK texts also describe a split and a fingernail through the sheet

Best for: You can measure the sheet when it arrives, and you only need a small bath or trough.

Less suitable: You need the title size, the word rubber, and the dimension line to agree before you dig.

Common questions

Which size is printed?

The title says 2 m by 2 m by 0.2 mm. The dimension line says 300 x 200 x 0.02 cm and 690 g, which reads as 3 m by 2 m. Both lines stay as printed.

Is it rubber?

The title says rubber tarp. The bullets say HDPE. The file does not resolve that clash. Do not buy it as butyl.

What do the seven UK reviews say?

A zinc bath held for a couple of months. Another review says it split. Another says a fingernail went through it. The texts do not agree on thickness.

MIKIICOCO pond liner, 3 x 2 m title

Rank 6

MIKIICOCO pond liner, 3 x 2 m title

∼£10

Our view

The MIKIICOCO ZH1620 is listed at about £9.98 as a 3 m by 2 m HDPE sheet, with 4.1 from 186 amazon.co.uk reviews, and the bullets do not print a thickness. The dimension line says 0.2 x 3 x 1 cm and 670 g, which does not match that title size, so both lines stay as printed. In the 50 UK texts, some buyers say it held a wildlife pond, folded easily, or patched an older liner. The complaint that repeats is thinness: a hole overnight, a hole from slate, a sheet with no stretch described as shiny black plastic, a comparison to a bin bag, and one sheet that arrived with a hole. The bullets say it is harmless to plants and fish, and no certificate is printed. The score is 37, which is not a laboratory test.

Pros

  • Some UK buyers say it held a wildlife pond or patched an older liner
  • 4.1 from 186 reviews, a larger sample than the six-review rows
  • Also described as easy to fold, and used under decking or as weed membrane
  • Title size is 3 m by 2 m at about £9.98

Cons

  • No thickness is printed
  • Dimension line says 0.2 x 3 x 1 cm and 670 g, which clashes with the title
  • UK texts describe overnight holes, a slate hole, no stretch, and a hole on arrival
  • Fish line has no certificate

Best for: You want a low-priced sheet for a small wildlife patch, a cover or weed membrane, and you can keep stones off it.

Less suitable: You need a stated thickness, a size line that matches the title, or a sheet reviewers do not compare to a bin bag.

Common questions

Does this listing state a thickness?

No. The bullets say HDPE. They do not give millimetres. Do not invent a thickness from the dimension line.

Do the size lines agree?

The title says 3 m by 2 m. The dimension line says 0.2 x 3 x 1 cm and 670 g. Both are printed, and they do not match.

What do the UK reviews say about leaks?

In the 50 UK texts, buyers report overnight punctures, a hole on arrival, and a sheet with no stretch. Others report a wildlife pond that held.

Hikrxya pond liner, 3 x 4 m, 0.2 mm

Rank 7

Hikrxya pond liner, 3 x 4 m, 0.2 mm

∼£19

Our view

The Hikrxya HY078 is a 3 m by 4 m sheet at about £18.99. The bullets state 0.2 mm, and the dimension line is 400 x 300 x 0.02 cm and 2.18 kg, which matches that size. The same bullets say premium HDPE and also black PVC pond liner, and they use the word underlay without listing fleece as a second item. The amazon.co.uk line is 3.9 from 57 reviews, and eight UK texts are on file. Those texts call a raised pond, a barrel and a fish pond fine. One verified buyer filled the pond four times because of a small hole, a Vine review used the sheet as a dust sheet, and one buyer doubled it over a vegetable bed. Eight texts are not the 57, and they are not a durability trial. The score is 49, not a laboratory test.

Pros

  • Largest thin-film sheet here, 3 m by 4 m, with a matching dimension line
  • 0.2 mm printed, and 2.18 kg matches that size
  • Some of the eight UK texts describe a raised pond, a barrel or a fish pond as fine
  • About £18.99 for the stated 12 square metres

Cons

  • Bullets say both HDPE and PVC
  • One verified buyer refilled four times because of a small hole
  • Underlay is a word in a bullet, not a second item in the box
  • Eight UK texts are not a reading of all 57 reviews

Best for: You want the 3 m by 4 m sheet, with 0.2 mm printed and a dimension line that matches the title.

Less suitable: You need the listing to name one polymer, or a UK review set larger than eight texts.

Common questions

Is it HDPE or PVC?

The bullets say both: premium HDPE, and black PVC pond liner. The file does not choose one polymer. Treat that clash as printed, not as a resolved material.

Does the size match the dimension line?

The title is 3 m by 4 m at 0.2 mm. The dimension line is 400 x 300 x 0.02 cm and 2.18 kg, which matches that size.

What is in the eight UK reviews?

Raised pond, barrel and a fish pond are called fine. One verified buyer refilled four times because of a small hole. Eight texts are not 57 reviews.

WARM&LOVE pond liner, 2 x 3 m, 0.1 mm

Rank 8

WARM&LOVE pond liner, 2 x 3 m, 0.1 mm

Our view

The WARM&LOVE ZH1620BK-10S-new is a black HDPE sheet, with a title size of 2 m by 3 m at 0.1 mm, listed at about £6.99. The packed size on the dimension line is 28 x 18 x 6 cm and 590 g. The amazon.co.uk line is 3.8 from 500 reviews. In the 50 UK texts, a large share call it too thin for a pond: empty overnight after sand bedding, a hole from a rock, a heavy-duty bin bag, a leak in a half barrel, a split, or a sheet doubled up. Others are content with it in raised beds, planters or as a moisture membrane, and a few call the same sheet thick. The bullets say it will not crack and that it is harmless to plants and fish, and no certificate is printed. The file does not contain 500 review texts. The score is 48, not a measured lifespan.

Pros

  • 0.1 mm and 2 m by 3 m are both printed on the title
  • About £6.99, with a listing count of 500
  • Some UK buyers use it in planters, raised beds or as a moisture membrane
  • A few of those texts call the sheet thick

Cons

  • Many of the 50 UK texts say it is too thin for a pond
  • Reports include an empty pond overnight, a rock hole and a half-barrel leak
  • Fish and no-crack lines have no certificate
  • The file holds 50 texts, not 500

Best for: You are lining a planter or raised bed and you have already read the 0.1 mm line.

Less suitable: You need a dug pond to hold overnight, or a half barrel on anything but a smooth base.

Common questions

What thickness does the title print?

0.1 mm, on a title size of 2 m by 3 m. The bullets say HDPE and that it will not crack. That no-crack line has no certificate.

Does the fish line mean it is certified?

The bullets say it is free of pollutants and harmless to plants and fish. No certificate is printed. Do not treat that sentence as a fish-safety certificate.

What do the UK reviews repeat?

In 50 UK texts, many call it too thin for a pond, including an empty pond overnight and a half-barrel leak. Others used it in planters. The file is not all 500 reviews.

mawmuaw pond liner, 2 x 2 m, 0.2 mm

Rank 9

mawmuaw pond liner, 2 x 2 m, 0.2 mm

∼£10

Our view

The mawmuaw MAW-093-02 is a 2 m by 2 m HDPE sheet with 0.2 mm on the title, 10 nails of 16 cm, a package weight of 770 g and a price of about £9.97. The listing is 3.7 from 109 amazon.co.uk reviews. Nineteen UK texts largely repeat the 0.1 mm file: a half barrel, a rubble sack, ducks, a gravel hole, a day-one puncture and a leak after trimming. A 0.1 mm difference is not something those texts isolate, and the two ASINs share an image URL. The bullets include the nails with a sheet you can cut, and they do not say to nail through the wet area. The score is 42, not a laboratory test.

Pros

  • 0.2 mm printed on a 2 m by 2 m title
  • 10 nails of 16 cm are listed with the sheet
  • Package weight 770 g, against 480 g on the 0.1 mm mawmuaw row
  • 3.7 from 109 reviews on the listing line

Cons

  • The 19 UK texts match the 0.1 mm file, including a day-one puncture and a gravel hole
  • Same image URL as the thinner mawmuaw row
  • About £9.97 against about £8.99 for the 0.1 mm title, without a review split
  • Nails are in the box; the bullets do not say to drive them through the wet sheet

Best for: You want 0.2 mm printed on a 2 m by 2 m mawmuaw title, with nails in the box, and you will keep the wet sheet clear of fixings.

Less suitable: You are paying the extra over the 0.1 mm row because you think these reviews isolate 0.2 mm.

Common questions

How does this differ from the other mawmuaw row?

This title says 0.2 mm and about £9.97. The other says 0.1 mm and about £8.99. They share an image URL and closely matching UK review texts.

Are the nails for the water-holding sheet?

The bullets include 10 nails of 16 cm with a sheet you can cut. They do not say to nail through the wet area.

Do the reviews isolate 0.2 mm?

No. The 19 UK texts match the 0.1 mm file, including day-one punctures and a gravel hole. A 0.1 mm gap is not isolated in those texts.

mawmuaw pond liner, 2 x 2 m, 0.1 mm

Rank 10

mawmuaw pond liner, 2 x 2 m, 0.1 mm

Our view

The mawmuaw MAW-093-01 is a 2 m by 2 m HDPE sheet at 0.1 mm, about £8.99, with 10 fixing nails of 16 cm and a package weight of 480 g. The listing is 3.7 from 108 amazon.co.uk reviews. Nineteen UK texts describe a half barrel that was fine if you are careful, a sheet too thin for a serious pond, a gravel hole, ducks that punctured it in under a month, a rubble sack, a day-one puncture, and a leak after the excess was cut. The same image URL and closely matching UK wording sit on the 0.2 mm mawmuaw ASIN, so these texts are not a clean test of 0.1 mm. Later reviews in the file from outside the UK are not counted as UK evidence. The score is 43, not a laboratory test. No fleece is listed.

Pros

  • 0.1 mm, 2 m by 2 m, and 10 nails of 16 cm are listed
  • One UK text says a careful half barrel was fine
  • One buyer welcomed the nails
  • 3.7 from 108 reviews on the listing line

Cons

  • UK texts include a day-one puncture, a gravel hole, and ducks that punctured it within a month
  • Described as a rubble sack, and as leaking after the excess was cut
  • The UK wording matches the 0.2 mm mawmuaw file
  • Same image URL as that other thickness

Best for: You want a 2 m by 2 m sheet with nails in the box for a careful half-barrel job on a smooth base.

Less suitable: You need the reviews to describe this 0.1 mm sheet only, or a pond with gravel and ducks.

Common questions

What comes in the box?

The bullets say a 2 m by 2 m liner at 0.1 mm and 10 fixing nails of 16 cm. No fleece is listed. Do not drive the nails through the water-holding sheet.

Are the UK reviews only about this thickness?

Nineteen UK texts describe thin sheet, gravel holes and a duck pond. The wording is close to the 0.2 mm mawmuaw file, so it is not a clean split.

Does the listing say it is rubber?

No. The bullets say HDPE. The title says heavy duty pond lining membrane. That is not a butyl or EPDM sheet.

QWORK pond liner, 2 x 2 m, 0.25 mm

Rank 11

QWORK pond liner, 2 x 2 m, 0.25 mm

Our view

The QWORK WD45757 is listed at about £8.99. The title says PVC and HDPE, while the bullets say HDPE, 2 m by 2 m and 0.25 mm, and the package line is 31.8 x 21.9 x 4.3 cm and 675 g. The amazon.co.uk line is 2.4 from 9 reviews. The one UK text says it tears very easily and is not the quality the buyer wanted. The other texts in the file are from outside the UK, so they are not folded into a UK verdict. No underlay is listed, and the bullets describe one pre-cut liner. Nine reviews and a single UK text are not a tear rate. The score is 31, not a laboratory test.

Pros

  • Bullets print 0.25 mm, 2 m by 2 m and HDPE
  • One pre-cut liner, with a package weight of 675 g
  • About £8.99

Cons

  • Title says PVC and HDPE; the bullets say HDPE
  • 2.4 from 9 reviews
  • The only UK text says it tears very easily
  • Other texts in the file are not UK reviews

Best for: You want 0.25 mm printed on a 2 m by 2 m bullet, and you will handle the sheet gently.

Less suitable: You are choosing it on the PVC word in the title, or you need more than one UK review.

Common questions

Is it PVC or HDPE?

The title says both. The bullets say HDPE, 2 m by 2 m and 0.25 mm. The file does not resolve the clash.

What does the UK review say?

The one UK text says it tears very easily. The listing count is 9. Other texts in the file are not UK reviews, and one text is not a tear rate.

Is underlay included?

No. The bullets describe one pre-cut liner. Fleece is not listed.

Wooview pond liner, 2 x 2 m, 0.1 mm

Rank 12

Wooview pond liner, 2 x 2 m, 0.1 mm

Our view

The Wooview listing, model PL-khl-0200-UK, is a 2 m by 2 m HDPE sheet at 0.1 mm and about £5.99, with a dimension line of 200 x 0.01 x 200 cm and 360 g. The manufacturer field says kanghelong while the bullets say Wooview. The amazon.co.uk line is 1.0 from 1 review. That only UK text says the sheet is not heavy duty, the pack said greenhouse film, and it is thinner than 1 mm. One review cannot prove a defect rate. It does show that this buyer did not get what the title’s heavy-duty words led them to expect, and no year count is printed. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 is the frame for goods that are not as described. The score is 27, not a laboratory test.

Pros

  • Lowest shelf price in this set, at about £5.99
  • 0.1 mm and 2 m by 2 m are printed
  • Dimension line 200 x 0.01 x 200 cm is consistent with 0.1 mm if that figure is thickness

Cons

  • 1.0 from 1 review
  • That text says the pack said greenhouse film and the sheet is not heavy duty
  • Bullets say Wooview and the manufacturer field says kanghelong
  • No guarantee year is printed

Best for: You want the about £5.99 sheet for a stated 2 m by 2 m at 0.1 mm, and you can check the pack before you rely on it.

Less suitable: You are buying on the words heavy duty, or you need more than one UK review.

Common questions

Who is the brand on the listing?

The bullets say Wooview. The manufacturer field says kanghelong. Both names are printed on the listing.

What did the only UK review say?

It says the sheet is not heavy duty, the pack said greenhouse film, and it is thinner than 1 mm. One review is not a defect rate.

Is a guarantee printed?

No. The title says heavy duty and 0.1 mm. It does not print a year count.

How we compared

Twelve amazon.co.uk listings were scored on 19 October 2026 from the stored pages and the UK review notes already on file. A thickness is used only when that listing prints it. Grams per square metre are not converted into millimetres. The 0.2 cm line on the GARDENIX dimension row is not read as 2 mm. Butyl and EPDM prices outside this set are context only and are not rows. The two PondKraft ASINs share one 4.7-from-405 line, so both cuts take the same Amazon and outcome marks. This is not a laboratory test and not a puncture trial. The highest score is the top pick. The best price per square metre of the stated 0.35 mm LDPE, on the cut that is not already the top pick, is best value. Each award is used once.

1

Amazon evidence

30%

The star line on amazon.co.uk, then the review count. A 4.7 from 405 scores the same on both PondKraft rows because they share that line. A larger count does not repair a lower star line, and a high star line on a handful of reviews does not outrank a larger sample.

2

Listing fit

30%

A stated thickness that matches the dimension line, and material words that agree, score up. Points come off when the title and the bullets name different polymers, when no thickness is printed, when the size lines disagree, and when 200 gsm is printed with no millimetre figure.

3

Review outcome

25%

UK texts score up when a sheet is said to have held water. Points come off for a first-night puncture, a hole on arrival, a split, or a sheet called a bin bag or rubble sack. Foreign-language texts are not folded into the UK mark. A handful of texts is not a durability result.

4

Value

15%

Shelf price in GBP against stated square metres and stated thickness. About £22.99 for 12 m² of stated 0.35 mm LDPE is about £1.92 a square metre, against about £2.00 a square metre on the smaller cut. Thinner film with repeated puncture notes does not take the value mark.

Pond membrane buying guide

Start with the job, then the thickness the listing actually prints, then whether the title and the bullets name the same material. A half-barrel, a dug wildlife pond and a koi pond around a metre deep are different purchases. The twelve rows below are amazon.co.uk polyethylene films plus two PondKraft LDPE sheets. They are not butyl, not EPDM, and not a welded geomembrane.

What is a pond membrane?

A pond membrane is the flexible sheet that holds water in a dug hole, a barrel or a raised trough. On amazon.co.uk the twelve sheets in this comparison are mostly polyethylene film at a stated 0.1–0.25 mm, plus two PondKraft LDPE tri-laminate sheets at a stated 0.35 mm and 200 g/m². Butyl and EPDM, usually 0.75 mm or 1.0 mm, are what the RHS and the RSPB name for a garden pond. Those rubbers are not rows here.

Best for

  • A sink, half barrel or planter where you can keep stones off a small sheet
  • A modest wildlife-pond dig where you want more than 0.1 mm printed and you will not add fish
  • A buyer comparing price per square metre of stated 0.35 mm LDPE

Not ideal for

  • A koi pond around a metre deep, or anyone who needs a welded sheet
  • Anyone who needs butyl or EPDM at about 0.75 mm
  • A dig that may hit services, or a grille that must carry a child

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

Sizing to the water surface only

Add twice the maximum depth to length and to width, then overlap. The RHS uses about 15 cm a side, the RSPB shop PDF about 30 cm, and the GARDENIX bullet at least 50 cm. Cutting before the fill leaves you short once the sheet drops into the hole.

  2. 2

Trusting every polymer word in the title

HDPE, rubber, PVC and underlay can appear in one title while the bullets name a single film. PondKraft bullets say LDPE, not butyl. 200 gsm is not a millimetre figure, and the GARDENIX 0.2 cm line is not 2 mm.

  3. 3

Reading 405 reviews as one cut, or adding fish

Both PondKraft ASINs share the 4.7 from 405, including dates before June 2024. Do not nail the wet area. Do not add fish or move spawn because a bullet says the sheet is harmless. A fish line here has no certificate.

What to weigh up

Stated thickness and material words

High

Rank the sheet by the thickness a bullet prints, not by the star line alone. In this set, 0.1 mm is WARM&LOVE, the Wooview listing and mawmuaw B0G3WS3WZT. 0.2 mm is YQBFTC, Hikrxya, mawmuaw B0G3WNTTYP, and the aotuo0608 title. 0.25 mm is QWORK. 0.35 mm is both PondKraft rows, which the bullets call LDPE tri-laminate at 200 g/m². MIKIICOCO states none. GARDENIX states 200 gsm, which is weight, not millimetres. Points come off when the title and the bullets name different polymers.

Size, underlay and price per square metre

High

A half-barrel needs a small sheet. A dug pond needs drape and stone resistance. Add twice the maximum depth to length and to width, then overlap. The RHS uses about 15 cm a side, the RSPB shop PDF about 30 cm, and the GARDENIX bullet at least 50 cm. Say which figure you used, and do not cut until the liner is full. Where the title and the dimension line disagree, as on aotuo0608 and MIKIICOCO, both lines stay as printed and you measure the sheet on arrival.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

A modest wildlife pond

You are digging a small wildlife pond and you want more than 0.1 mm printed, without adding fish. The PondKraft 3 m by 2.5 m sheet is the top pick at about £14.99. The bullets say LDPE tri-laminate, 0.35 mm and 200 g/m². The 4.7 from 405 reviews is shared with the larger cut. Buy underlay separately. It is not butyl.

A sink or half barrel

A half-barrel or Belfast sink needs a small sheet, and you can keep stones off it. The GARDENIX 1 m by 1 m sheet is about £6.72 at 200 gsm, which is weight, not millimetres, with 4.3 from 165 reviews. UK texts cover sinks and half barrels, and also leaks. Underlay is advised and not in the box.

More square metres of 0.35 mm

You need about 12 square metres of the same stated 0.35 mm LDPE and you are comparing price per square metre. The PondKraft 4 m by 3 m cut is the best value at about £22.99, about £1.92 a square metre. No weight is printed. The 405 reviews cannot be read as this cut alone.

Common questions about pond membranes

Which pond membrane is the top pick in 2026?
The top pick in this amazon.co.uk set is the PondKraft 3 m by 2.5 m sheet at about £14.99. The bullets state LDPE tri-laminate, 0.35 mm and at least 200 g/m². The listing shows 4.7 from 405 reviews, shared with the 4 m by 3 m cut, so that line is not a test of this size alone. Shared UK texts say a sheet held water for months, and also that one measured short and a join opened. It is not butyl.
Which pond membrane is the best value?
The best value is the PondKraft 4 m by 3 m cut at about £22.99. That is about £1.92 a square metre of stated 0.35 mm LDPE, against about £2.00 a square metre on the about £14.99 cut of 7.5 square metres. The bullets match the smaller sheet. No weight is printed. The same 4.7 from 405 reviews applies, including the short sheet and the join that opened, and you cannot tell which cut those reviewers held. Choose it when you need about 12 square metres of that stated sheet.
How much does a pond membrane cost?
On 19 October 2026, thin film in this set runs from about £5.99 for the Wooview 2 m by 2 m sheet at 0.1 mm to about £10.39 for YQBFTC at 0.2 mm. Hikrxya is about £18.99 for 12 square metres at 0.2 mm. PondKraft is the mid band: about £14.99 and about £22.99. Butyl and EPDM are a different purchase and are not rows here. Re-check the shelf price before you buy.
How thick should a pond membrane be?
No source used here sets a legal minimum thickness. In this set, 0.1 mm is what many UK texts call too thin for a pond. The PondKraft rows state 0.35 mm LDPE. The RHS line of at least 0.5 mm is for a bog liner you then pierce, not a rule for these films. Butyl and EPDM, usually 0.75 mm or 1.0 mm, are not in this table. 200 gsm on GARDENIX is weight, not millimetres.
How do I size the sheet?
Size to the hole, not to the water surface. Add twice the maximum depth to the length and to the width, then add overlap. The RHS uses about 15 cm a side, the RSPB shop PDF about 30 cm, and the GARDENIX bullet at least 50 cm. Say which figure you used. Do not cut until the liner is full. None of these twelve includes fleece.
Is an HDPE film the same as butyl or EPDM?
No. The sheets in this table are polyethylene film, or LDPE tri-laminate on the PondKraft rows. Several cheap titles print HDPE, rubber, PVC and underlay together. Where the title and the bullets disagree, both lines stay as printed. HDPE on a contractor page can mean a thicker welded sheet. That is not these parcels. The RHS and the RSPB name butyl or EPDM for a garden pond. A rubber liner is a different purchase from this film. If you are choosing between those names, start from the pond liner comparison.
Do these listings include underlay?
No. None of the twelve includes fleece. Some titles use the word underlay, including YQBFTC, Hikrxya and aotuo0608, while the bullets describe one sheet. GARDENIX tells you to use underlay and does not put it in the box. The mawmuaw rows include ten 16 cm nails, not fleece, and the bullets do not say to nail through the wet area. The RHS suggests underfelt, or about 2.5 cm of damp sand if the ground is stony. A 25-year title line is not a promise that ignores underlay.
Can I add fish, and is a pond safe for children?
A bullet that says a sheet is harmless to fish is not a certificate. OATA says at least 60 cm in part for a fish pond. The RSPB and Froglife say not to add fish or move spawn. Froglife says the Environment Agency requires consent to move wild fish to inland waters in England and Wales. RoSPA says supervise children, use a rigid metal grille, make any fence at least 1.1 m, or fill the pond in.

Our verdict

The top pick for a modest dig in this amazon.co.uk set is the PondKraft 3 m by 2.5 m sheet at about £14.99. The bullets state 0.35 mm LDPE tri-laminate and at least 200 g/m², with a package weight of 1.25 kg. The listing shows 4.7 from 405 reviews, the same pool as the larger cut, including a sheet that held water for months, one that measured short, and a join that opened. The best value is the PondKraft 4 m by 3 m cut at about £22.99, about £1.92 a square metre of that same stated sheet, with no weight line. Film at 0.1 mm, including WARM&LOVE at about £6.99, is what many UK texts call too thin for a pond. None of these rows is butyl, a welded sheet, or a fish-safety certificate, and none of the scores is a laboratory test.
