UVC pond clarifier comparison 2026

The best UVC pond clarifiers, compared.

Top pick: Evolution Aqua evoUV evo25 – Joint-highest score, 4.4 from 49 reviews, and the lowest price at about £129.99. Best value: Evolution Aqua evoUV evo55 – Same 4.4 star line, from 41 reviews, at about £199.99 for the larger maker class, about £20 above the weaker evo30. Updated October 2026.

A UVC pond clarifier is a flow-through ultraviolet unit. Pond water passes a sleeved lamp, the single-celled algae that turn the water green are knocked back, and the filter catches the debris. You already have a pump and a filter. This is not a bottle of flocculant, and it is not a spare bulb. The manual uses about 2 watts of UV per 1,000 litres for the UK, then a shade-and-stock grid that moves you up a model in full sun or with heavy fish. FishLife’s rule of thumb is 20 watts per 4,000 litres. Four evoUV listings were kept from the amazon.co.uk pages saved. It does not strip blanketweed, and it does not replace the filter. All-in-one filters, submersible aquarium UV lamps, loose bulbs and liquid flocculants are different products. What green water a clarifier can and cannot clear is set out in [green pond water](/hub/garden-ponds/blog/green-pond-water).

Does the pond sit in the maker’s lower cell, in part shade with lighter stock?

The best UVC pond clarifiers in detail

Evolution Aqua evoUV evo25

Rank 1

Evolution Aqua evoUV evo25

∼£130

Our view

The Evolution Aqua evoUV evo25 is the about £129.99 listing in this set, with 4.4 stars from 49 amazon.co.uk reviews, the largest review file of the four. Reviewers who describe a result often say the green water eased in about three days, which is the short end of reported clearance times and not a promise for every pond. One UK review says the unit was easy to fit in line with an FX4. Another says a lamp change is awkward because the cable twists with the end caps. Seal complaints and a shattered sleeve also sit in that same review file, so a tidy first week is not the only account. The saved listing does not print lamp watts or an IP rating, and the “2 year manufacturer” bullet is truncated. The listed item weight of 7.35 kg looks unreliable next to the evo55 row at 3.93 kg, so do not plan a shelf from that figure.

Pros

  • Lowest price in the set at about £129.99
  • 4.4 from 49 reviews, more reviews than the evo55’s 41
  • Some reviewers report green water easing in about three days
  • One UK review describes a straightforward fit in line with an FX4
  • The listing says the unit is serviceable and claims a green-water role

Cons

  • Lamp changes are awkward when the cable twists with the end caps
  • Seal problems and a shattered sleeve appear in the review file
  • The amazon.co.uk page does not print lamp watts or an IP rating
  • The listed 7.35 kg item weight clashes with the lighter evo55 row

Best for: A smaller pond that still sits in the maker’s lower cell, where you want the cheapest of these four listings and the largest amazon.co.uk review sample.

Less suitable: A full-sun, heavily stocked pond that the maker’s grid moves up a model, or a buyer who needs watts printed on the amazon page.

Common questions

Does the listing say the evo25 needs a professional install?

The saved page asks the question and does not answer it. One UK review says it was easy to fit in line with an FX4. Another says the lamp is awkward because the cable twists with the end caps. The manual, not the listing, says a qualified electrician should install the unit.

Is the evo25 listed as weatherproof?

The listing asks whether it is weatherproof and does not print an IP rating, an indoor or outdoor line, or a power source. The manual’s IP65 rating is jet-resistant, not submersible. Do not read the amazon page as if it had printed that rating.

What lamp wattage does amazon.co.uk print for this evo25?

The saved attribute table does not print watts. The title is Evolution Aqua evoUV evo25. Item weight is listed as 7.35 kg. The manufacturer table, not the listing, is where the 25 W T8 figure comes from.

Evolution Aqua evoUV evo55

Rank 2

Evolution Aqua evoUV evo55

∼£200

Our view

The Evolution Aqua evoUV evo55 costs about £199.99 and shares the evo25’s 4.4 stars, from 41 amazon.co.uk reviews rather than 49. The saved listing gives a body of 98 × 8.8 × 16.7 cm, a weight of 3.93 kg and a quartz material line, and it still does not print lamp watts. Reviewers who mention clearance talk in a range of a few days to about ten days, which is a report, not a timed test. Several UK reviews say there is no obvious daytime indicator, and they check the unit after dark, when the housing glows. One UK review says the ballast seal let rain in within a year and tripped the house electrics. The listing asks about weatherproofing and does not give an IP rating. You are paying about £70 more than the evo25 for a longer body in a larger maker class, with a review file that is strong on stars and thin on how the housing copes with rain.

Pros

  • 4.4 from 41 reviews, level with the evo25 on stars
  • Listing prints a body of 98 × 8.8 × 16.7 cm and a weight of 3.93 kg
  • Quartz is named on the technical details
  • Some reviewers report clearer water within a few days to about ten days
  • After dark, reviewers use the glow of the housing as a lamp check

Cons

  • No obvious daytime indicator in the reviews that mention one
  • One UK review describes rain entering the ballast within a year and tripping the house electrics
  • Lamp watts and an IP rating are not printed on the listing
  • About £70 more than the evo25, at about £199.99

Best for: A pond the maker’s grid places above the evo25, where you still want a review file of several dozen amazon.co.uk ratings.

Less suitable: A small shaded pond that does not need the longer body, or an exposed mount where you cannot keep driving rain off the ballast.

Common questions

Does the evo55 listing state a lamp wattage?

No. The saved technical details give 98 × 8.8 × 16.7 cm, 3.93 kg and quartz. They do not print watts. The manufacturer table is the source for a single 55 W T8 on this model.

How do reviewers tell the lamp is on?

UK reviews say there is no obvious daytime indicator. After dark the housing glows, which those reviewers used as the check. A glow is not the same as full output, and a dirty quartz sleeve blocks the dose.

Is weatherproofing stated?

The listing asks the question and does not give an IP rating. One UK review says the ballast seal let rain in within a year and tripped the house electrics. The manual’s IP65 line is jet-resistant, not a licence to submerge the unit.

Evolution Aqua evoUV evo110

Rank 3

Evolution Aqua evoUV evo110

∼£285

Our view

The Evolution Aqua evoUV evo110 is the about £284.95 listing, and it is the only one of the four that prints a lamp wattage: 110 watts, with power consumption also stated as 110 watts. amazon.co.uk shows 4.3 stars from 12 reviews, a thinner file than the evo25 or the evo55. The saved UK review text in this capture is the single word “Ok”, so it does not describe fitting, clarity or a fault. Technical details name a T8 bulb, corded power, outdoor use, the United Kingdom as the country of origin, quartz, 8 kg and a listed life of 2 years. Width and height are given as 16 cm and 23 cm, and length is not printed. The manufacturer manual, not the listing, says UK fittings are not in the box for this model. Twelve reviews cannot tell you how often a leak or a failed lamp shows up.

Pros

  • 110 W is printed on the listing, unlike the other three rows
  • Outdoor use, corded electric and a T8 bulb are stated
  • Country of origin is given as the United Kingdom
  • A listed life span of 2 years and a serviceable claim appear on the listing
  • Quartz and an 8 kg item weight are printed

Cons

  • Only 12 reviews, at 4.3 stars, and the saved UK review text is just “Ok”
  • Length is missing from the dimension line
  • The manual says UK hose fittings are not supplied
  • Highest price in the set at about £284.95

Best for: A large pond whose flow and volume sit in the maker’s upper cell, where you want the wattage written on the amazon.co.uk page.

Less suitable: A small or mid-size pond that a shorter evoUV already covers, or a buyer who wants a dense review file before spending about £284.95.

Common questions

What wattage does the evo110 listing print?

110 watts, with power consumption also stated as 110 watts. The bulb shape line says T8 and the power source is corded electric. The manual describes two 55 W lamps, which is the same 110 W total.

Does the listing say where it can be used?

Indoor/outdoor usage is printed as outdoor. No IP rating is printed. Country of origin is the United Kingdom. The manual’s IP65 rating is jet-resistant, not submersible, and that rating is not on the amazon page.

What do the saved UK reviews say?

The file contains one UK review and the text is the single word Ok. It does not describe fitting, clarity or a fault. amazon.co.uk shows 4.3 from 12 reviews. That sample is too small for a failure rate.

Evolution Aqua evoUV evo30

Rank 4

Evolution Aqua evoUV evo30

∼£180

Our view

The Evolution Aqua evoUV evo30 is listed at about £179.99 with 3.8 stars from 8 amazon.co.uk reviews, the weakest rating and the smallest sample in this set. The saved dimensions are 57 × 8.8 × 16.7 cm and 3 kg, with quartz named and lamp watts omitted. That 57 cm length does not match the manufacturer’s 990 mm body for the evo30, so the listing and the drawing disagree and neither figure should be quietly corrected. One UK review says the vertical hosetail thread jumps under side load, and that the O-ring pops off a flat flange if you go past the hand-tight instruction. Another reviewer, on a 4,500 litre pond, had stepped up from an 18 W unit and was not fully clear yet. Eight reviews are too few to turn that into a failure rate. The page asks whether installation must be professional and does not answer it, and it prints no IP rating.

Pros

  • Mid price at about £179.99, between the evo25 and the evo55
  • The listing prints dimensions, a 3 kg weight and quartz
  • Green-water and serviceable claims appear as listing bullets
  • A reviewer on a 4,500 litre pond was using it as a step up from 18 W

Cons

  • 3.8 from only 8 reviews
  • The hosetail thread can jump under side load, and the O-ring can pop off if you overtighten
  • The amazon length of 57 cm clashes with the maker’s 990 mm body
  • Watts and an IP rating are not on the listing

Best for: A pond between the evo25 and evo55 on the maker’s grid, if you can accept eight reviews and you check the real body length before you plumb it.

Less suitable: Anyone who wants a large review file, or a full-sun koi pond that the grid moves to the evo55 or the evo110.

Common questions

Does the evo30 listing state lamp watts?

No. The saved details give 57 × 8.8 × 16.7 cm, 3 kg and quartz. Watts are not in the attribute table. The manufacturer table is the source for a single 30 W lamp on this model.

What do UK reviews say about the hose connection?

One UK review says the vertical hosetail thread jumps under side load, and the O-ring pops off a flat flange if you go past the hand-tight instruction. Overtightened hosetails are a known way to disturb that seal.

Is a professional install answered on the listing?

The page asks whether installation must be professional and does not answer it. No IP rating is printed. The manual says a qualified electrician should install the unit, and that line is not an amazon answer.

How we compared

Four amazon.co.uk listings were read from the pages captured on 19 October 2026. Eight other files in that capture were lamps, liquid clarifiers or an aquarium UV lamp, and they are not rows. The score on each row is the amazon.co.uk star rating mapped to a mark out of 100, as on the stored comparison: 4.4 becomes 88, 4.3 becomes 86, 3.8 becomes 76. Review counts stay beside that number. They do not change it. There is no laboratory test of clearer water. The top pick is the evo25, the row the stored comparison marks as the lead, on the joint-highest score and the larger review file. The best value is the evo55: the same 4.4 star line, for a pond the maker’s grid places above the evo25, at about £20 more than the evo30. The evo30 is not that pick, because 3.8 from 8 reviews is the weakest line here. The weights below sum to 100.

1

Volume, sun and wattage

30%

Pond volume in litres, then sun and stocking. The Evolution Aqua manual gives about 2 watts per 1,000 litres for the UK, plus a grid that moves you up a model in full sun or with heavy fish. FishLife’s rule of thumb is 20 watts per 4,000 litres. Neither ratio is a law. Amazon prints 110 watts only on the evo110.

2

Flow against the model

25%

The maker wants the whole pond through the unit about every 2 to 3 hours, and prefers about 3 hours. Stay inside that model’s maximum flow. Do not use a pump above 2.5 bar. A support example: 10,000 litres needs about 3,300 litres per hour.

3

Hose, length and the lamp

25%

Hose size, whether hosetails are in the box, and whether the listed length matches the maker drawing. The lamp family in the manual is a T8 with a G13 cap, not a G23 bulb. A quartz sleeve you can clean, and a stated service life, sit in this weight.

4

Amazon star line

20%

The amazon.co.uk star rating, with the review count beside it. A thin sample does not change the score. It does stop a failure rate. The evo25 and the evo55 share 4.4. The evo25 has 49 reviews and the evo55 has 41.

UVC pond clarifier buying guide

The right UVC pond clarifier is the wattage and the flow for your volume, on a quartz sleeve you can service, with a housing that stays watertight and a 30 mA RCD. The four rows are Evolution Aqua evoUV listings on amazon.co.uk from 19 October 2026. A star line is not a measurement of clearer water. Read the maker chart, the hose size and the length clash before the price. A liquid clarifier, a loose bulb and an aquarium UV lamp are not in this table.

What is a UVC pond clarifier?

A UVC pond clarifier is a standalone in-line unit. Pond water passes a sleeved UV-C lamp on the way back to the filter. The lamp knocks back the single-celled algae that turn the water green, so the filter can catch the debris. It does not strip blanketweed, and it does not replace the filter. All-in-one filters, submersible aquarium UV lamps, loose bulbs and liquid flocculants are different products.

Best for

  • A shaded goldfish pond already on a pump and a filter
  • A larger or full-sun pond where the maker’s grid steps you up a model

Not ideal for

  • Blanketweed, or a filter that is not already catching waste
  • A buyer who wants a submerged lamp or a liquid flocculant

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

A watt ratio with no flow check

Two watts per 1,000 litres, or 20 watts per 4,000 litres, is a rule of thumb. The maker still wants the whole pond through the unit about every 2 to 3 hours, inside that model’s maximum, and not on a pump above 2.5 bar.

  2. 2

The wrong bulb, or a daylight check

The manual specifies a T8 with a G13 cap, not a G23 compact bulb. A glow is not full output. Reviewers on the evo55 check the housing after dark because there is no obvious daytime indicator.

  3. 3

Expecting UV to replace the filter

The lamp knocks back single-celled green algae so the filter can catch the debris. It does not strip blanketweed. If the filter is not removing waste, a bigger lamp is the wrong next buy.

What to weigh up

Volume, sun and wattage

High

Start with litres, then with how much sun the pond gets and how hard it is stocked. The Evolution Aqua manual uses about 2 watts per 1,000 litres for the UK, and a grid that moves you up a model in full sun or with heavy fish. FishLife’s figure is 20 watts per 4,000 litres. Use the chart for this brand. The manual ceilings are 20,000 litres on the evo25, 30,000 on the evo30, 55,000 on the evo55 and 75,000 on the evo110.

Flow, hose, sleeve and the RCD

High

Flow is the second stop. The maker wants a full turnover in about 2 to 3 hours, and prefers about 3. The published example is about 3,300 L/h for 10,000 litres. Optimum and maximum are printed in the manual for each model. A pump above 2.5 bar is outside that instruction. Then match the pipe. Hosetails are supplied on the 1½ inch evo25, evo30 and evo55. The 2 inch evo110 does not include fittings. Do not quietly correct the evo30 length: the listing says 57 cm and the drawing says 990 mm.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

A shaded goldfish pond

Part shade and a volume in the maker’s lower cell point at the evo25, about £129.99, with 4.4 from 49 reviews. The listing does not print lamp watts. The manual maximum is 20,000 litres, at 7,500 L/h optimum and 10,000 L/h max. Check flow before you treat the watt ratio as enough.

Full sun or a heavier stock

The maker’s grid moves a full-sun or heavily stocked pond toward the evo55 or the evo110. The evo55 is about £199.99, with 4.4 from 41 reviews, a listed body of 98 cm, and a manual maximum of 55,000 litres. The amazon page still does not print lamp watts. One UK review describes rain in the ballast.

Replacing an older evoUV

If you already know the hose, the evo25, evo30 and evo55 are 1½ inch with hosetails supplied. The evo110 is 2 inch and the manual says no fittings are in the box. The evo30 is the mid price at about £179.99, with 3.8 from 8 reviews, and the listed 57 cm clashes with the maker’s 990 mm body. Measure before you plumb it.

Common questions about UVC pond clarifiers

Which UVC pond clarifier is the top pick in 2026?
The top pick is the Evolution Aqua evoUV evo25 at about £129.99. amazon.co.uk shows 4.4 from 49 reviews, the largest review file of these four, and the price is the lowest. The listing does not print lamp watts or an IP rating. The manual maximum is 20,000 litres, with 7,500 L/h optimum and 10,000 L/h maximum. A reported easing of green water in about three days is one review account, not a clearance-time guarantee. Choose it when volume, sun and flow still sit in that lower cell.
Which UVC pond clarifier is the best value?
The best value for a pond the maker’s grid places above the evo25 is the evo55 at about £199.99. It shares the 4.4 star line, from 41 reviews, and costs about £20 more than the evo30. The evo30 is not the value pick: 3.8 from 8 reviews is the weakest line, and the listed 57 cm clashes with the maker’s 990 mm body. The evo25 remains the lowest price overall.
How much does a UVC pond clarifier cost on amazon.co.uk?
On 19 October 2026 the four kept Evolution Aqua listings ran from about £129.99 to about £284.95. The evo25 was about £129.99. The evo30 was about £179.99 and the evo55 was about £199.99. The evo110 was about £284.95. Eight other files in that capture were lamps, liquid clarifiers or an aquarium UV lamp, and they are not in these prices. A higher star line is not a measured clearance time. Prices move, so treat these as the snapshot.
Does a UVC clarifier remove blanketweed?
No. A UVC pond clarifier knocks back the single-celled algae that turn the water green, so the filter can catch the debris. It does not strip blanketweed, and it does not replace the filter. If the filter is not removing waste, a bigger lamp is the wrong next buy. The separate choice for the box itself is the pond filter comparison. Liquid flocculant and a loose G23 bulb are different products.
How many watts does a UK pond need?
Use the chart for the brand you are fitting. The Evolution Aqua manual gives about 2 watts of UV per 1,000 litres for the UK, then a shade-and-stock grid that jumps a model in full sun or with heavy fish. FishLife’s rule of thumb is 20 watts per 4,000 litres. Neither ratio is a law. Amazon prints 110 watts only on the evo110. Watts for the evo25, evo30 and evo55 on this page come from the manufacturer table, not from those three listings. Check flow as well as watts.
Can I submerge a UVC pond clarifier?
No. The Evolution Aqua manual’s IP65 rating means jet-resistant, not submersible. The amazon.co.uk pages in this set do not print IP65. Mount the unit the right way up if it will be splashed. Wet-test the quartz sleeve before the lamp goes in. The manual says avoid direct or reflected UV, keep the lamp in the housing, and disconnect before a lamp change. HSE describes UV injury to the cornea and the skin. A glow through the housing is not a reason to open it while it is on.
When should I call an electrician?
Call a qualified electrician for the install the manual requires, for a new circuit, for a damaged cable, or if an RCD will not reset. Use an RCD not exceeding 30 mA. In the 2013 Approved Document P, notifiable work is a new circuit, a new consumer unit, or work in a bath, shower, pool or sauna room. A garden pond is not named there as a special location. Check the current GOV.UK edition. Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are separate regimes.
How often should I change the UV lamp?
The Evolution Aqua manual states 9,000 hours of effective life and treats a spring replacement as accepted practice. Water Garden Ltd cites 12 to 18 months. A lamp can still glow after the useful output has fallen, so daylight is a poor test. UK reviews on the evo55 say there is no obvious daytime indicator, and they check the housing after dark. Clean the quartz sleeve when you change the lamp. A dirty sleeve blocks the dose. Fit a T8 with a G13 cap, not a G23 compact bulb.

Our verdict

The top pick is the Evolution Aqua evoUV evo25 at about £129.99. It leads on 4.4 from 49 reviews, the largest review file here, and it is the lowest price. The amazon page does not print lamp watts, and the listed 7.35 kg clashes with the evo55 at 3.93 kg. The best value for a pond the maker’s grid places above the evo25 is the evo55 at about £199.99, with the same 4.4 from 41 reviews. It costs about £20 more than the evo30 and about £70 more than the evo25, for the longer body in that larger class. The evo30 is not the value pick: 3.8 from 8 reviews is the weakest line, and the listed length does not match the maker drawing. None of these scores is a water test.
