Pond liner buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

You have a half-barrel, or a rectangle marked on the lawn, and a row of amazon.co.uk sheets that all say heavy duty. This pond liner buying guide is the order to use before the star line: the job, the printed thickness, the material words, the cut, a cushion, then the price in pounds. The twelve listings in our [pond membrane comparison](/hub/garden-ponds/pond-membrane) are mostly polyethylene film at 0.1–0.25 mm, plus two PondKraft LDPE sheets at 0.35 mm. Butyl and EPDM sit outside that table. Peter F. checked the 19 October 2026 listings. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

What the twelve listings actually are

A search for a flexible pond liner mixes three purchases into one shelf. Thin film is pre-cut polyethylene. UK reviewers sometimes compare it with a rubble sack. The mid band is PondKraft’s LDPE tri-laminate, stated at 0.35 mm and 200 g/m². Rubber around 0.75 mm is a third purchase, and it is not a row in this table. The job picks the band. A half-barrel can take a small sheet if you keep stones off it, though mawmuaw’s UK texts describe a day-one puncture from gravel. A dug pond in this table points at the 0.35 mm LDPE, and you still add underlay yourself. GARDENIX states 200 gsm, a weight, and MIKIICOCO states no thickness at all.

Thickness and the words on the title

Pond membrane thickness here is a printed step, and heavy duty is a title. At 0.1 mm the rows are WARM&LOVE, the Wooview listing whose manufacturer field says kanghelong, and mawmuaw. At 0.2 mm you have YQBFTC, Hikrxya at 3 m by 4 m, the other mawmuaw row and the figure on aotuo’s title. QWORK’s bullets say 0.25 mm. Both PondKraft rows say 0.35 mm. The RHS figure of at least 0.5 mm belongs to a bog liner you then pierce. aotuo’s title says rubber and 2 m by 2 m, the bullets say HDPE, and the dimension line reads 3 m by 2 m. PondKraft’s bullets name LDPE tri-laminate. A 25-year title still comes without fleece. Fitting that cushion is on how to fit a pond liner.

What the review counts can and cannot prove

The Wooview listing is 1.0 from 1, and that UK text calls the sheet greenhouse film. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires goods to be as described. The till price is a separate fact. A shared 4.7 from 405 on both PondKraft cuts does not name which size the reviewer held.

Pounds per sheet, not per boast

Pond liner price UK, on this shelf, runs from £5.99 for the Wooview 2 m by 2 m film to £10.39 for YQBFTC. Hikrxya is £18.99 for 12 square metres at 0.2 mm. PondKraft is the mid band, at £14.99 and £22.99. About £22.99 for 12 square metres is about £1.92 a square metre, against about £2.00 on the smaller 0.35 mm cut. A dug pond you mean to keep points at that 0.35 mm LDPE, with fleece bought separately. For 0.75 mm rubber, leave the table. Who each row suits is on best pond liner. The name clash is on HDPE film or rubber.

Common questions

How thick should a pond liner be?
No source we used sets a legal minimum thickness. These listings print 0.1 mm, 0.2 mm, 0.25 mm or 0.35 mm, or a weight, or nothing. Shetland’s Garden Tool Box, a shop blog, says avoid liners under 0.30 mm. For a dug pond in this table, the stated 0.35 mm LDPE is the step that meets that opinion, and you still add underlay. Rubber around 0.75 mm is a different purchase.
Why is a 4.8-star sheet not automatically the one to buy?
YQBFTC shows 4.8 from six reviews on a stated 0.2 mm sheet. Four UK texts do not mention a puncture, which is a small sample, not a durability trial. WARM&LOVE shows 3.8 from 500 reviews on stated 0.1 mm film, including a pond that emptied overnight. The higher stars sit on the smaller sample. Match the printed thickness to the hole, and read the review count separately.
What is 200 gsm if it is not millimetres?
Gsm means grams per square metre, a weight. GARDENIX states 200 gsm on a 1 m by 1 m sheet at £6.72, with a listed parcel weight of 190 g. That figure does not become a millimetre thickness, and 0.2 cm on the dimension line is not a 2 mm liner. PondKraft also states 200 g/m², and those bullets add a separate 0.35 mm. Where a listing gives only gsm, the thickness is still unknown.
Are the PondKraft reviews about one size?
The 3 m by 2.5 m cut and the 4 m by 3 m cut share one amazon.co.uk line: 4.7 from 405, the same image and the same texts. The pool includes water held for months, a short measure, and a join that opened. It does not name which cut a reviewer bought, so the score belongs to both sizes. A 25-year title line still leaves fleece out of the box.
Is £6 enough for a dug pond?
£5.99 buys the Wooview 2 m by 2 m film at 0.1 mm, and the manufacturer field says kanghelong. £6.99 buys WARM&LOVE’s 2 m by 3 m film at the same thickness. Either can line a watched barrel if you keep stones off the sheet. UK texts on WARM&LOVE include an empty pond overnight. For a dug pond in this set, the stated 0.35 mm LDPE is the thicker printed option, and you buy underlay separately.
Which prices are not in this table?
Butyl and EPDM are context. On 19 October 2026 PondLinersco showed EPDM from £144 for 3 m by 3 m, butyl from £56 for 2 m by 2 m, and 0.35 mm HDPE from £44.60 for the same 2 m by 2 m size. The RSPB’s rough band is £50 to £100 for 3 m by 3 m. Those figures sit outside this table. They are not a lab comparison with the twelve films.
