Air die grinder comparison 2026

The best air die grinders, compared.

Top pick: LithiCraft BF007 extended Best value: WORKPRO WG803 straight – About £21.99 for 25,000 rpm, stated 85.5 L/min at 90 psi, and 3 mm and 6 mm collets, with 4.6 from 73 reviews. Updated October 2026.

An air die grinder is a handheld pneumatic vane motor with a collet. You buy one in the UK for local deburring, weld tidy-up and light porting. Judge free air delivery, not the reading on a shut-off tank gauge. A suitable tool states head shape, collet size, free speed and air use at a named pressure. A straight body suits an in-line burr. A right-angle head suits a disc on a face. An extended shaft is only for a recess a short body cannot enter. The usual burr shank is 6 mm. A 3 mm collet is for small points, and a quarter-inch shank is 6.35 mm. Look for a throttle lock and a directed exhaust. Add a margin to the stated air use, and disconnect the hose before a bit change. Those checks are set out in the [air die grinder buying guide](/hub/tools/air-die-grinder/sub/air-die-grinder-buying-guide). At work, equipment has to be suitable and maintained, and noise and vibration have action values. A private garage is not automatically a workplace. A volts figure beside an air-powered line is not a mains tool.

The best air die grinders in detail

LithiCraft BF007 extended

Rank 1

LithiCraft BF007 extended

∼£31

Our view

The LithiCraft BF007, listed at about £31.49, is an extended straight grinder at 25,000 rpm, with collets described as 6.35 mm and 3.175 mm, rear exhaust, and an inlet filter. It is 5.0 from only six reviews, so durability cannot be read from the stars. Two detailed UK reviews praise the reach on car work and note loud running, high air use, and weak speed control. Air consumption is not on the listing. It fits tyre buffing or a deep recess when a short body will not enter, if you accept a thin review sample. Skip it if six ratings are too few, or the compressor is already short of air.

Pros

  • Extended shaft for a deep recess or tyre buffing
  • 25,000 rpm with 6.35 mm and 3.175 mm collets stated
  • Rear exhaust and an inlet filter on the listing
  • Two detailed UK reviews praise the reach on car work

Cons

  • 5.0 from only six reviews
  • Loud running and high air use in those UK reviews
  • Weak speed control noted at this price
  • No air consumption on the amazon.co.uk listing

Best for: Tyre buffing or a deep recess when a short body will not enter, and you accept six reviews.

Less suitable: A buyer who wants hundreds of UK reviews, or a compressor that is already short of free air.

Common questions

What air supply does the listing specify?

It does not state consumption. UK detail reviews describe high air use. Do not treat a full tank gauge as proof the compressor can feed an extended shaft.

Which collets are stated?

6.35 mm and 3.175 mm, which are 1/4 inch and 1/8 inch. That is not a 6 mm and 3 mm pair. Check the collets against your shanks.

Does 5.0 from six reviews prove it will last?

No. Six reviews can praise reach and still say nothing about a year of use. The score on this page is capped for that reason.

Ingersoll Rand 308B-M

Rank 2

Ingersoll Rand 308B-M

∼£79

Our view

The Ingersoll Rand 308B-M, listed at about £78.66, is a composite straight grinder with a self-locking throttle and 25,000 rpm on amazon.co.uk. It is 4.8 from 35 reviews, so the praise is strong and the sample is small. UK workshop and tyre-fitter comments are short and positive. The listing also prints a 4 volts field beside air powered, which you should ignore. Heamar lists 793 L/min at load. That figure is not in the amazon table. It is the top pick if you want a lighter pro-brand straight body and you will match the compressor to that trade figure. It is more tool than occasional hobby deburring needs.

Pros

  • 4.8 from 35 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • 25,000 rpm composite body at 460 g
  • Self-locking throttle lever
  • 6 mm collet included

Cons

  • About £78.66, the upper band here
  • Only 35 reviews, so the UK sample is small
  • Listing prints a 4 volts field beside air powered
  • No air consumption on the amazon.co.uk table

Best for: You want a lighter pro-brand straight body and you will size the compressor from trade airflow.

Less suitable: Occasional hobby deburring on a marginal compressor, or a large UK review file before you pay this price.

Common questions

What air supply does the listing specify?

The amazon.co.uk table does not state consumption. Heamar lists 793 L/min at load for this model. Size the compressor from that trade figure plus a margin, not from tank litres.

Which collet is in the box?

A 6 mm collet is included. A 1/4 inch shank is 6.35 mm, so it is not the same collet.

Is this a straight or angle die grinder?

Straight. Use it for an in-line burr. A disc that must lie on a face needs a 90 degree head.

Anesty GL558-7 angle kit

Rank 3

Anesty GL558-7 angle kit

∼£36

Our view

The Anesty GL558-7, listed at about £35.90, is a 90 degree kit with 3 mm and 6 mm collets and twenty 2 inch quick-change discs, at 20,000 rpm and 90 psi. It is 4.6 from 290 reviews, and many of those texts are not from the United Kingdom. UK buyers praise rust removal. One mentions a slow leak and noise. Air consumption is not on the listing, so size the compressor conservatively. It fits home rust or paint prep when you want discs in the box. It is not the row for carbide burr work at 25,000 rpm.

Pros

  • 4.6 from 290 reviews
  • Twenty 2 inch quick-change discs in the box
  • 90 degree head with 3 mm and 6 mm collets
  • 20,000 rpm and 90 psi on the listing

Cons

  • Many review texts are not from the United Kingdom
  • Air consumption is not on the amazon.co.uk listing
  • A UK comment mentions a slow leak and noise
  • 20,000 rpm is not the 25,000 rpm burr band

Best for: Home rust or paint prep when you want sanding discs in the box and you will size air conservatively.

Less suitable: Carbide burr work at high rpm, or a review file that is mostly from the United Kingdom.

Common questions

What air supply does the listing specify?

90 psi is stated. Consumption is not. Do not guess a cfm figure. Size the compressor with a margin and stop if the tool fades as soon as the tank pressure drops.

Which collets are in the box?

The listing states 3 mm and 6 mm collets, plus twenty 2 inch quick-change discs. Check both collets on arrival.

Is this a straight or angle die grinder?

90 degree. It suits a disc that must lie on a face. It is not the default choice for an in-line carbide burr.

Chicago Pneumatic CP876

Rank 4

Chicago Pneumatic CP876

∼£82

Our view

The Chicago Pneumatic CP876, listed at about £81.52, is a compact straight grinder at 30,000 rpm with front exhaust, a built-in regulator, and 1/4 inch and 6 mm collets on the listing. It is 4.6 from 152 reviews, and the UK text in that sample is thin. The listing also shows 200 volts AC beside air powered. Ignore that field. A UK stockist page gives about 12 cfm average and about 24 cfm at load, and 101.3 dB(A) sound pressure. It suits a shop with a large compressor and daily deburring. It is the wrong buy if you will not check free air delivery against that published consumption.

Pros

  • 4.6 from 152 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • 30,000 rpm, the highest free speed here
  • Built-in regulator and front exhaust
  • 1/4 inch and 6 mm collets stated, 340 g listed

Cons

  • About £81.52, and no cfm on the amazon table
  • Listing shows 200 volts AC beside air powered
  • Trade data cites high airflow at load
  • UK review text is thin despite 152 reviews

Best for: A shop with a large compressor and daily deburring, if you check free air delivery against the stockist airflow.

Less suitable: A hobby garage on a small compressor, or a buyer who will not look past the amazon table for cfm.

Common questions

What air supply does the listing specify?

The amazon.co.uk table does not state consumption. A UK stockist page gives about 12 cfm average and about 24 cfm at load. The table uses the load figure, about 679 L/min.

Which collets are stated?

1/4 inch and 6 mm. Those are not the same size. 1/4 inch is 6.35 mm. Check which collet is actually fitted before you run a burr.

Does the 200 volts line mean it plugs into the mains?

No. The listing is air powered. The 200 volts AC field sits beside that and is not a mains motor.

WORKPRO WG803 straight

Rank 5

WORKPRO WG803 straight

∼£22

Our view

The WORKPRO WG803, listed at about £21.99, is a straight grinder at 25,000 rpm and 90 psi, with 85.5 L/min, 3 mm and 6 mm collets, and a rubberised housing. It is 4.6 from 73 reviews. UK buyers use it for aluminium work and like the grip, but several say the throttle is hard to feather and that air use is high. One UK review reports failure after about two months. The table weight is 500 g and a bullet says 0.33 kg. It is the best value for a home garage that can sustain roughly that flow. It is the wrong buy if you need fine low-speed control or an all-day trade tool.

Pros

  • 4.6 from 73 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • 85.5 L/min at 90 psi stated
  • 25,000 rpm with 3 mm and 6 mm collets
  • Rubberised housing and rear exhaust

Cons

  • Several UK reviews say the throttle is hard to feather
  • Stated air use is high for a small hobby compressor
  • One UK review reports failure after about two months
  • Weight conflicts: 500 g on the table, 0.33 kg in a bullet

Best for: Home-garage aluminium deburring when the compressor can sustain about 85 L/min with a margin.

Less suitable: Fine speed control at low rpm, or a trade tool you expect to run all day without air fade.

Common questions

What air supply does the listing specify?

85.5 L/min at 90 psi. Add a margin and compare that with the compressor’s free air delivery. UK reviews still report high air use on small compressors.

Which collets are in the box?

The listing says 3 mm and 6 mm collets are supplied. Confirm both on delivery before you rely on the title.

Is this a straight or angle die grinder?

Straight. It suits an in-line burr. The 90 degree WORKPRO listing is the sibling for a disc on a face.

Sealey SA671

Rank 6

Sealey SA671

∼£30

Our view

The Sealey SA671, listed at about £29.62, is a straight grinder with a safety catch, adjustable speed, and 22,000 rpm on the listing. It is 4.5 from 144 reviews. UK comments praise the speed control over cheaper bodies, and they warn about air hunger on small compressors. Some buyers swap a German BSP inlet for a British BSP fitting. The amazon table does not state cfm. Sealey’s instructions specify 7 cfm at 90 psi, 89 dB(A) sound pressure, and 1.6 m/s² vibration with an uncertainty of 0.8. It fits you if you already have enough free air delivery. Skip it if the compressor only keeps pressure in short bursts.

Pros

  • 4.5 from 144 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • Adjustable speed and a trigger safety catch
  • 22,000 rpm on the listing
  • Instructions cite 7 cfm at 90 psi

Cons

  • Air consumption is not on the amazon.co.uk table
  • UK buyers report air hunger on small compressors
  • Some swap the inlet from German BSP to British BSP
  • The title states 6 mm shanks; confirm the collets

Best for: A straight grinder with speed control when you already have enough free air delivery for intermittent deburring.

Less suitable: A tiny tank that only holds pressure in short bursts, or dual collets you need confirmed in the box list.

The amazon.co.uk table does not state it. Sealey’s instructions specify 7 cfm at 90 psi. Sealey’s compressor guide adds 50 percent, which is about 10.5 cfm of free air delivery.

Which collets are in the box?

The title states 6 mm shanks. UK reviews also mention 3 mm and 6 mm collets. Check the box. A 1/4 inch shank is 6.35 mm and will not match a 6 mm collet.

Is this a straight or angle die grinder?

Straight, with adjustable speed and a safety catch on the trigger. It is for an in-line burr, not a face disc.

Stanley die grinder kit

Rank 7

Stanley die grinder kit

∼£33

Our view

The Stanley 160153XSTN kit, listed at about £32.99, is a pencil-style air kit with 170 L/min on the listing and a stray 230 volts field beside air powered. It is 4.4 from 711 reviews, and most long texts are not from the United Kingdom. A UK reviewer could not fully seat 6 mm shanks and treated that as a safety issue at high speed, and reported low torque on a wire wheel. Weight lines on the listing conflict, so the table leaves weight blank. Free speed is not stated. It may work for very light, low-torque tasks after you test the collet. Skip it if you need dependable 6 mm seating.

Pros

  • 4.4 from 711 reviews on amazon.co.uk
  • Pencil kit with 170 L/min stated
  • Useful when the collet fits and torque stays low
  • Wide buyer base for very light tasks

Cons

  • Most long review texts are not from the United Kingdom
  • A UK reviewer could not fully seat 6 mm shanks
  • Low torque on a wire wheel in UK text
  • A stray 230 volts field and conflicting weight lines

Best for: Very light, low-torque tasks after you test collet seating with your own bits.

Less suitable: Dependable 6 mm seating, a stated free speed, or a compressor that cannot sustain 170 L/min.

Common questions

Will a 6 mm shank seat?

The kit is described as 6 mm. A UK reviewer could not fully seat 6 mm shanks and treated that as a safety issue. Test your own bits before a high-speed run.

Is the 230 volts field a mains motor?

No. The tool is air powered. The 230 volts line is a stray listing field, not a UK plug.

Orazio/Katsu 212505B kit

Rank 8

Orazio/Katsu 212505B kit

∼£17

Our view

The Orazio-titled Katsu 212505B kit, listed at about £16.99, is a budget straight kit with a case, stones, and 20,000 rpm on the listing. It is 4.4 from 254 reviews, and many of those texts are not from the United Kingdom. UK buyers praise car and MIG tidy-up. Critics mention a chuck that would not hold bits, or a 50 litre tank that fades quickly. At 1.1 kg it is the heaviest straight kit here. Air consumption is not stated. Choose it for occasional car work with a larger compressor. Skip it if you need a published cfm figure or a collet that seats every time.

Pros

  • 4.4 from 254 reviews
  • Case, stones and dual collets stated
  • 20,000 rpm with a paddle trigger
  • Rear exhaust

Cons

  • Many review texts are not from the United Kingdom
  • No air consumption on the amazon.co.uk listing
  • Critics report chucks that would not hold bits
  • 1.1 kg, the heaviest straight kit here

Best for: Occasional MIG or car clean-up when you already own a larger compressor and you accept kit-grade bits.

Less suitable: A published air figure, a collet claim you will not check, or daily fabrication where the chuck must hold.

Common questions

What air supply does the listing specify?

It does not state consumption or pressure. Do not invent a cfm figure. UK comments include a 50 litre tank that fades quickly, so a larger compressor is the safer assumption.

Which collets are in the box?

3 mm and 6 mm collets are stated, with stones and a case. Seat a bit before you treat that as confirmed.

Is this a straight or angle die grinder?

A straight kit with a paddle trigger and rear exhaust. It is for in-line tidy-up, not a face disc.

Draper 65130 Storm Force

Rank 9

Draper 65130 Storm Force

∼£24

Our view

The Draper Storm Force 65130, listed at about £23.54, is a composite straight mini with a 6 mm collet, variable speed, and a rotating exhaust, at 25,000 rpm. It is 4.3 from 81 reviews. UK welders praise lower noise than a typical die grinder and use it for light fabrication. Critics report trigger quirks, the body unscrewing in use, or seal issues behind the speed knob. The amazon table does not state cfm. Town Tools cites about 7 cfm. It suits regular light fabrication if you oil the inlet. Look elsewhere if you need a faultless trigger.

Pros

  • 4.3 from 81 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • 25,000 rpm mini straight with a rotating exhaust
  • UK welders praise lower noise than a typical die grinder
  • Composite body with variable speed on the listing

Cons

  • Trigger quirks and the body unscrewing in use
  • Seal issues behind the speed knob in UK criticism
  • No cfm in the amazon.co.uk table
  • 6 mm collet only

Best for: Regular light fabrication if you oil the inlet and you accept occasional trigger fiddling.

Less suitable: A faultless trigger, proof of pro-brand life, or disc work without a second tool.

Which collet is included?

6 mm only. There is no 3 mm collet on the listing. A 1/4 inch shank will not seat in a 6 mm collet.

Is this a straight or angle die grinder?

A straight mini with variable speed and a rotating exhaust. UK comments praise lower noise. That is not a measured quietest-in-class claim.

WORKPRO 90° angle

Rank 10

WORKPRO 90° angle

∼£29

Our view

The WORKPRO 90 degree grinder, listed at about £28.99, shares the 85.5 L/min and 90 psi figures with the straight WG803 and uses a 20,000 rpm angle head. It is 4.3 from 61 reviews. UK buyers like access in tight areas. Failures in the UK text include a trigger roll pin, spindle sparks on day two, and collets that arrived as metric 6 mm and 3 mm behind an inch title. The table uses 680 g. A bullet says 0.47 kg. It fits rust or paint where a disc must lie on a surface, if you verify the collets. Avoid it if you must have true 1/4 inch collets out of the box.

Pros

  • 90 degree head for rust in tight areas
  • 85.5 L/min at 90 psi, same as the straight sibling
  • 20,000 rpm with a safety trigger
  • 4.3 from 61 amazon.co.uk reviews

Cons

  • Inch titles, with UK buyers receiving metric 6 mm and 3 mm
  • Trigger roll pin and early spindle-spark reports
  • 4.3, with failure themes beside the access praise
  • Not a 25,000 rpm carbide burr tool

Best for: Rust or paint prep where a disc must lie flat, and you will verify the collets on arrival.

Less suitable: A true 1/4 inch collet out of the box, or carbide burr work at 25,000 rpm.

85.5 L/min at 90 psi, the same published figure as the straight WORKPRO. Add a margin before you assume a small compressor will keep up.

Are the collets 1/4 inch and 1/8 inch?

The title claims inch sizes. A UK buyer received metric 6 mm and 3 mm. 1/4 inch is 6.35 mm, not 6 mm. Check the box before you buy bits.

Is this a straight or angle die grinder?

90 degree, at 20,000 rpm. It suits a disc on a face. It is not the high-rpm straight burr in this set.

Yosoo straight kit

Rank 11

Yosoo straight kit

∼£17

Our view

The Yosoo straight kit, listed at about £16.69, is the lowest shelf price here, at 23,000 rpm and 450 g, with 3 mm and 6 mm in the title. It is 4.3 from 32 reviews. UK buyers call it handy and very noisy. One verified buyer received only a 6 mm collet and got no help from the seller. The title mentions 90 psi. Air consumption is not stated. It may suit a light puncture or engraving job if you wear hearing protection and you open the box first. Do not buy it for guaranteed dual collets.

Pros

  • Lowest shelf price in this set, about £16.69
  • 23,000 rpm and 450 g listed
  • 3 mm and 6 mm claimed in the title
  • Rear exhaust and a safety trigger stated

Cons

  • 4.3 from only 32 reviews
  • One verified UK buyer received only a 6 mm collet
  • UK comments call it very noisy
  • Air use is not stated, and missing parts went unsupported

Best for: Light jobs with hearing protection, if you open the box and check every collet before use.

Less suitable: Guaranteed dual collets without inspection, or steel work that relies on the kit stones alone.

The listing states 12,000 rpm and 6 cfm at 6 bar, with sanding discs rather than a carbide-burr setup. UK buyers split between compact rust-work praise and leaks that stop the tool when load starts, plus start-lever faults and dead-on-arrival reports. At 621 g it is mid-weight for an angle head. It may work for light wheel-rust sanding if that copy seals. Avoid it when you need carbide speeds or a first copy that runs without adjustment.

Pros

  • 6 cfm at 6 bar stated
  • 12,000 rpm angle head with sanding discs
  • Compact for wheel-rust sanding in positive UK comments
  • 621 g

Cons

  • 3.6 from 63 reviews, the weakest star line here
  • Leaks that stop the tool when load starts
  • Start-lever faults and dead-on-arrival reports
  • 12,000 rpm with discs, not a carbide burr speed

Best for: Light wheel-rust sanding if you accept checking the seals and the returns policy first.

Less suitable: Carbide speeds, or a first copy you need to run without adjustment.

Common questions

What air supply does the listing specify?

6 cfm at 6 bar. The table shows that as about 170 L/min at about 87 psi. It is a sanding figure, not a promise that a tiny compressor will hold pressure under load.

What is in the box for the spindle?

Sanding discs are included. The listing highlights a 1/4 inch inlet rather than a pair of burr collets. Do not assume 6 mm and 3 mm collets.

Is 12,000 rpm enough for a carbide burr?

This listing is set up for sanding discs at 12,000 rpm. Carbide burrs in this set sit nearer 20,000 to 25,000 rpm. Treat it as a face sander.

How we compared

Twelve amazon.co.uk listings were scored from the stored pages and the UK review notes already on file. Shelf date 20 October 2026. There is no laboratory test. Stars are the listing line. A high star line with only a handful of reviews is not treated as durability proof, and review texts from outside the United Kingdom are discounted. Trade airflow is kept separate from gaps on the amazon table. The highest score is the top pick. Best value is the straight grinder with stated air use, more than about 50 reviews, and a low shelf price. One of each. Where a source states cubic feet per minute, the table shows litres per minute at 28.3 litres per cubic foot. The weights below sum to 100.

1

Amazon evidence

30%

Star rating on amazon.co.uk, with a heavy deduction when the count is below about 50 reviews, and a lighter deduction below 200 when many texts are not from the United Kingdom.

2

Listing fit

35%

Body style, collet clarity, stated speed and air use where present, plus a safety lock or throttle detail. A missing consumption figure is scored down. It is not guessed.

3

Review outcome

20%

UK themes count more than a vague works-fine line: air hunger on a small compressor, inch versus metric collets, trigger or seal faults, and spindle safety.

4

Value

15%

Shelf price in GBP against what the listing states and how deep the review file is. The lowest price does not outrank a documented air figure with a usable review sample.

Air die grinder buying guide

Match the compressor and the collet before you match a star line. A full tank is not free air delivery. A 6 mm collet is not a 1/4 inch collet. A straight body, a 90 degree head and an extended shaft are different jobs.

What is an air die grinder?

An air die grinder is a handheld pneumatic vane motor with a collet. UK buyers use it for local deburring, weld tidy-up, porting and light buffing. It is not for cutting plate the way a 115 mm angle grinder does. You usually already own a compressor, and a full tank gauge is not free air delivery.

Best for

  • A home garage that already has a compressor with enough free air delivery
  • Daily deburring when you will match a pro-brand body to published airflow
  • Rust or paint where a disc has to lie flat on the surface

Not ideal for

  • Cutting plate, which is angle-grinder work
  • A compressor you have sized only from tank litres
  • A buyer who treats six reviews as a service-life test

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

    Sizing from the tank gauge

A full tank is stored air, not free air delivery. Sealey’s compressor guide adds 50 percent to the tool’s stated consumption and says to compare free air delivery, not displacement.

  2. 2

Treating 6 mm and 1/4 inch as one collet

1/4 inch is 6.35 mm. A 6 mm collet will not hold it properly. Inch titles in this set have arrived with metric collets. Seat your own bit before you run the tool.

  3. 3

Reading a volts field as a mains tool

The Stanley listing prints 230 volts and the CP876 listing prints 200 volts AC, both beside air powered. Neither is a mains die grinder. Do not fit a UK plug to either.

What to weigh up

Air supply and collet

High

Start with consumption at a stated pressure, then add a margin. Sealey’s compressor guide uses 50 percent and free air delivery, not tank litres. The SA671 instructions specify 7 cfm at 90 psi, so the worked margin is about 10.5 cfm. Heamar lists 793 L/min at load for the 308B-M. The CP876 stockist page gives about 12 cfm average and about 24 cfm at load. WORKPRO states 85.5 L/min at 90 psi on both the straight and the 90 degree listing. Stanley states 170 L/min. QWORK states 6 cfm at 6 bar.

Head, speed and safety

High

A straight body is for an in-line burr or a port. A 90 degree head is for a disc on a face. An extended shaft is only for a recess a short body cannot enter. Kits stay in this category. Carbide burrs want free speed near 20,000 to 25,000 rpm, and a way to slow down for a flap wheel. The QWORK listing is 12,000 rpm with sanding discs. The CP876 listing is 30,000 rpm and needs the large-compressor airflow on the stockist page. A safety lock, exhaust direction and grip come before the star line.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Home garage deburring

You already own a compressor that can sustain the stated flow for intermittent work. The WORKPRO WG803 is the best value at about £21.99, with 25,000 rpm, 85.5 L/min at 90 psi, 3 mm and 6 mm collets, and 4.6 from 73 reviews. Several buyers say the throttle is hard to feather.

Daily fabrication

You deburr most days and you will size air from a trade sheet. The Ingersoll Rand 308B-M is the top pick at about £78.66: a composite straight body, 25,000 rpm, a self-locking throttle, and 4.8 from 35 reviews. Heamar lists 793 L/min at load. The UK sample is small.

Rust or paint on a face

You need a disc flat on a surface, not a carbide burr at 25,000 rpm. The Anesty GL558-7 is about £35.90, a 90 degree kit with 3 mm and 6 mm collets and twenty 2 inch discs, and 4.6 from 290 reviews. Many of those texts are not from the United Kingdom, and air use is not on the listing.

Common questions about air die grinders

Which air die grinder is the top pick in 2026?
The top pick is the Ingersoll Rand 308B-M at about £78.66. It is a composite straight body at 25,000 rpm and 460 g, with a self-locking throttle and a 6 mm collet. amazon.co.uk shows 4.8 from 35 reviews, so the sample is small. The amazon table does not state air use. Heamar lists 793 L/min at load. Choose it if you will size the compressor from that trade figure. It is more than occasional hobby deburring needs.
Which air die grinder is the best value?
The best value is the WORKPRO WG803 straight grinder at about £21.99. The listing states 25,000 rpm, 90 psi and 85.5 L/min, with 3 mm and 6 mm collets and a rear exhaust. amazon.co.uk shows 4.6 from 73 reviews. UK buyers use it for aluminium work. Several say the throttle is hard to feather and that air use is high for a small compressor. One review reports failure after about two months. It fits a home garage that can sustain that flow.
How much air does an air die grinder need?
Use the stated consumption at the stated pressure, then add a margin. Sealey’s compressor guide adds 50 percent and says to compare free air delivery, not tank litres or displacement. The SA671 instructions specify 7 cfm at 90 psi, so that margin is about 10.5 cfm. Heamar lists 793 L/min at load for the 308B-M. A CP876 stockist page gives about 12 cfm average and about 24 cfm at load. Four listings here do not state consumption. Do not guess those gaps.
Are 6 mm and 1/4 inch collets the same?
No. A 1/4 inch shank is 6.35 mm, not 6 mm. The usual UK burr shank is 6 mm. A 3 mm collet is for small points. Titles sometimes say inch collets when the box holds metric 6 mm and 3 mm, and one kit review reported only a 6 mm collet. Seat your own bit on delivery before you run the tool. The two sizes are not interchangeable, and a forced shank is a safety problem at these speeds.
Should you buy a straight, angle, or extended air die grinder?
Buy a straight body for an in-line burr or a port. Buy a 90 degree head when a disc must lie on a face, including rust and paint prep. Buy an extended straight shaft only when a short body cannot enter the recess, such as some tyre-buffing reach. Free speed near 20,000 to 25,000 rpm suits carbide burrs. A 12,000 rpm listing with sanding discs is a sander, not a high-speed burr tool. Match the geometry to the job, then check air and collet.
What safety rules apply to an air die grinder?
At work, PUWER 1998 requires suitable, maintained equipment and training. Noise action values are 80 dB(A) and 85 dB(A), and the exposure limit is 87 dB(A). Hand-arm vibration action and limit values are 2.5 m/s² A(8) and 5 m/s² A(8). A declared emission figure is not a daily dose. Disconnect the air before a bit change. PSSR 2000 generally does not require a written scheme under 250 bar litres. A hobby garage is not automatically an employer. A volts field next to air powered is not a mains motor.
When should you call a professional?
Call a competent person for a workplace noise or vibration assessment, for a written scheme if the receiver may be at or above 250 bar litres, and for a throttle that sticks open or a tool that has thrown a bit. Tyre repairs beyond light buffing belong with someone trained to do them. Do not treat six reviews as a life test, and do not run the motor dry. If you want a mains collet tool rather than air, use the die grinder comparison.
What should you ignore on the listing?
Ignore a volts field that sits next to air powered. The Stanley and Chicago Pneumatic listings both print one, and neither is a mains tool. Ignore tank capacity as a substitute for free air delivery. Ignore a 5.0 from six reviews as proof of long service. A large review count that is mostly from outside the United Kingdom is a weaker UK sample than the star line suggests. Check the collets against the title before the first high-speed run.

Our verdict

The top pick for a straight pro-brand body is the Ingersoll Rand 308B-M at about £78.66, with 25,000 rpm, a self-locking throttle, and 4.8 from 35 reviews. Heamar lists 793 L/min at load, which is not on the amazon table. The best value is the WORKPRO WG803 at about £21.99 if your compressor can sustain 85.5 L/min at 90 psi and you can live with a stiff throttle. The Chicago Pneumatic CP876 is the 30,000 rpm shop tool, and it needs a large compressor. None of these scores is a laboratory test.
