A kneeling board is a pad or board you put on the ground and kneel on. In the UK it is sold as a garden kneeler, a foam kneeling pad, or a plastic-backed kneeler board. A framed kneeler that flips into a seat sits in the same shopping job when standing up is the hard part. Strap-on pads are a different product. These mats are not EN 14404 work knee protection. Judge the board on checks that stay the same when models change. Thickness comes first. UK garden writers use about 25 mm as a minimum and about 40 mm on concrete, gravel or paving. That is a rule of thumb, not a British Standard. Both knees need room on a garden rectangle. A pad around 17–21 cm wide is one-knee or toolbox size. Closed-cell foam is sold as rinseable. A plastic base keeps damp and grit under the foam. A fabric cover can be washed and can hold dirt. Only a framed kneeler has supports you can hold. Apply those checks using the [kneeling board buying guide](/hub/plant-accessories/kneeling-board/sub/kneeling-board-buying-guide).

The best Kneeling boards in detail

Six EVA kneeling pads, 39 x 17 cm

Rank 1

Six EVA kneeling pads, 39 x 17 cm

∼£12

Our view

XIAOjnHONG lists six EVA pads at about £11.98, stated at 39 x 17 x 1.6 cm, with 5.0 from only seven reviews. The three UK texts are short praise, including indoor and outdoor use and kneeling while putting up a caravan awning, and none of them describes a tear. At 16 mm this pack sits under the roughly 25 mm minimum that UK garden writers use as a rule of thumb, and well under the 40 mm they suggest for patios and gravel. The 17 cm width is one-knee or toolbox size, not a rectangle both knees can share. A perfect star line on seven reviews is not the same thing as a thick garden pad with a long UK sample. Use the six-pack when you want several thin pads for short indoor jobs, and do not buy it as the cushion for a long weeding session on paving.

Pros

  • Six pads for about £11.98
  • Integrated handle on the listing
  • Short UK notes include a caravan awning and indoor use
  • No tear described in the three UK reviews

Cons

  • Stated thickness is only 16 mm
  • 17 cm wide, so both knees do not share one pad
  • 5.0 from seven reviews is a very small sample
  • No hard base and no help standing up

Best for: You want several thin pads for short indoor or one-knee jobs.

Less suitable: You kneel for long spells on a patio, gravel or paving.

Common questions

How thick are the six pads?

The listing says 39 x 17 x 1.6 cm, so the stated foam depth is 16 mm.

How many are in the pack?

Six.

Is there a handle?

The bullets say an integrated handle.

WORKPRO NBR kneeling pads, 2-pack

Rank 2

WORKPRO NBR kneeling pads, 2-pack

∼£25

Our view

The WORKPRO two-pack is a pair of black NBR slabs listed at 280 x 440 x 36 mm and about £24.99, with 4.8 from 934 amazon.co.uk reviews. UK reviewers praise the thickness and the rebound, including one person with raised nerves across the kneecaps, and several say the pads are useful in a tight space where worn knee pads get in the way. The same notes call them firm and soft at once, and lighter than expected, which is the feel of a closed-cell slab rather than a deep cushion. One UK reviewer wants about 15 cm more in each direction, so both knees can feel short of room if you shuffle along a bed. A second dimensions row prints 44 x 28 x 7 cm, which does not match the 36 mm highlight, so do not treat 7 cm as a confirmed foam depth. The bullets claim the foam absorbs up to 70% of impact, and the listing gives no test method behind that figure. It is the top pick when you want two rinseable garden pads and a large UK review file, and a weaker buy if you need handles to stand or a plastic skin against sharp gravel.

Pros

  • 4.8 from 934 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • Stated 36 mm NBR with a built-in handle, sold as a pair
  • UK reviews praise thickness and rebound, including on sensitive kneecaps
  • Listing says you can wipe or rinse the foam

Cons

  • One UK reviewer wants about 15 cm more in each direction
  • A dimensions row says 7 cm while the highlight says 36 mm
  • The 70% impact line has no test method on the listing
  • No handles to help you stand, and no plastic base

Best for: You want two rinseable garden pads around 36 mm and a large UK review file.

Less suitable: You need help standing up, or a hard skin between the foam and sharp gravel.

Common questions

Is the WORKPRO pad waterproof?

The listing says the NBR foam is waterproof and has low water absorption. There is no soak test in the product data.

Does it have a handle?

Yes. The bullets describe a built-in handle.

How thick is it?

The highlight and size row say 36 mm. Another dimensions row says 44 x 28 x 7 cm. Both figures are in the product data.

Gedore 906 kneeling board

Rank 3

Gedore 906 kneeling board

∼£17

Our view

The Gedore 906 is a firm foam board at about £17.46, sized 450 x 210 x 30 mm on both the brand page and the amazon.co.uk size row, with a recessed grip and a stated mass of 0.11 kg. The star line is 4.7 from 778 reviews on amazon.co.uk. The review texts saved with the listing are not from the United Kingdom, so comments about garage concrete and a pad that had not deformed cannot be read as British buyers. One of those non-UK texts still calls the board quite small, which matches a 210 mm width that takes one knee rather than a garden rectangle. A package-weight line says 95 g and a number-of-items row says 2, against one board in the included-components line. There is no waterproof claim and no hard base. Keep it for a short, firm kneel beside a toolbox if the brand size is what you measured, and do not treat the 778 reviews as UK evidence that it suits a border.

Pros

  • Brand page and amazon.co.uk agree on 450 x 210 x 30 mm
  • Recessed grip, stated mass 0.11 kg
  • 4.7 from 778 reviews on the amazon.co.uk star line
  • Narrow enough for a toolbox rather than a border

Cons

  • The saved review texts are not from the United Kingdom
  • 210 mm wide, so both knees do not fit
  • Package weight 95 g conflicts with 110 g, and the item-count row says 2
  • No waterproof claim and no hard base

Best for: You want a small firm 30 mm board for a short kneel and you accept that the saved review texts are not UK buyers.

Less suitable: You want UK review evidence, both knees on one pad, or a garden rectangle.

FINE GARDEN 7 cm memory-foam pad

Rank 4

FINE GARDEN 7 cm memory-foam pad

∼£12

Our view

FINE GARDEN lists a foldable memory-foam pad at about £12.49, stated at 45 x 27 x 7 cm and 450 g, with 4.7 from 41 reviews. UK reviewers used it for patio grouting without stopping every few minutes, and others report comfort after a knee replacement or with a meniscus tear. Those lines are personal accounts, not a clinical test, and one review says the pad does not relieve knee pressure. The cover is water-resistant fabric you wipe, not a plastic base, and one reviewer expects it to pick up dirt outdoors. That same review says a free return was refused. It folds and has carry handles, which helps storage, but those handles are not a frame you can push on to stand. It is the thick covered option in this set when you want 7 cm of memory foam on a patio, and a weaker choice if you need a rinseable closed-cell slab that will not hold soil in the fabric.

Pros

  • Stated 70 mm memory foam at about £12.49
  • Folds, with carry handles, at 450 g
  • UK reviews include patio grouting and long spells kneeling
  • Water-resistant fabric the listing says you can wipe

Cons

  • One review says it does not relieve knee pressure
  • Fabric cover is expected to attract outdoor dirt
  • One reviewer says a free return was refused
  • Only 41 reviews, and the handles do not help you stand

Best for: You want a thick foldable cushion for a patio or grouting, and you will wipe the cover.

Less suitable: You need a plastic base, a rinseable foam slab, or handles that take your weight as you stand.

HappyPicnic covered knee mat

Rank 5

HappyPicnic covered knee mat

∼£15

Our view

HappyPicnic’s green covered pad is listed at about £14.99, about 43.2 x 24.9 x 5.1 cm, with a zipped 600D polyester cover and 4.6 from 1,143 reviews. UK reviewers describe a day’s weeding, a cover that comes off to wash, and one person who could not feel the floor through it. Another calls it handy on wet ground, although the bullets themselves do not say waterproof. A hanging loop and a built-in handle are the carry story. The item-weight row says 231 g and a bullet says 0.4 lb, which do not match. An age-range field says Baby, which does not describe the gardening use in the reviews. No torn cover or failed zip appears in the sampled UK notes. It is the covered pad to shortlist when you want a washable face and a long review file, and a poor match if you wanted a plastic base against sharp gravel.

Pros

  • 4.6 from 1,143 reviews at about £14.99
  • Zip-off 600D cover the bullets say is washable
  • About 51 mm thick; one UK reviewer could not feel the floor
  • UK notes include a day’s weeding and wet ground

Cons

  • The bullets do not claim waterproof, even though one UK review does
  • 231 g on the weight row does not match a 0.4 lb bullet
  • A fabric cover can hold dirt in a way a bare EVA slab does not
  • No plastic base and no help standing up

Best for: You want a washable covered pad around 5 cm thick, with a long UK review file, for weeding and wet grass.

Less suitable: You need a stated waterproof claim in the bullets, or a hard base for sharp gravel.

Onadak foldable garden kneeler

Rank 6

Onadak foldable garden kneeler

∼£40

Our view

The Onadak is a framed kneeler and seat at about £39.99, listed at 58.42 x 25.4 x 45.72 cm and 4.43 kg, with 4.6 from 1,119 reviews. UK reviewers say the side supports make standing easier and that the same pad works as a seat when kneeling is not an option. Extra struts are praised on uneven ground, and the pad is described as firm but comfortable. The same reviews include a return because an extendable leg would not work, ferrules that wore through so the tubes filled with soil, fiddly anti-tip poles, and a cover that showed wear after one light season. The title says 500 lb and a bullet says 400 lb, with no test report, and a seat-height line prints both 17 inches and 15 inches. The listing says it arrives fully assembled, yet the moving parts still have to lock. It is the only product here with something to hold when you stand, and the wrong buy if you wanted a light pad you can throw in a trug.

Pros

  • Side supports you can hold to stand, and a seat when flipped
  • 4.6 from 1,119 reviews
  • UK reviews praise the handles and the extra struts on uneven ground
  • Tool bag included; listing says it arrives assembled

Cons

  • 4.43 kg, and reviewers say it is not light to carry
  • UK reports of a faulty extendable leg, worn ferrules and fiddly struts
  • Title says 500 lb and a bullet says 400 lb, with no test
  • Seat-height lines of 17 inches and 15 inches conflict

Best for: Standing up is the hard part, and you can check that the legs lock before you trust them.

Less suitable: You want a light foam pad under about £20, or a verified user-weight figure rather than conflicting pound claims.

Common questions

The title says 500 lb and a bullet says 400 lb. There is no test report on the listing. Do not treat either figure as verified.

Does it arrive assembled?

The listing says fully assembled. UK reviews still describe legs, struts and ferrules that have to work.

ASelected 40 mm EVA kneeling pad

Rank 7

ASelected 40 mm EVA kneeling pad

Our view

ASelected lists one black EVA pad at about £7.99, with the title stating 430 x 280 x 40 mm and a carrying hole, and 4.6 from 138 reviews. Some UK reviewers keep it in the car boot and call 40 mm enough for outdoor work or a dig. Others sent it back, or said it was only marginally more comfortable than the ground, and one hoped the foam would soften. That split is why the low price is the best value line in this set only if your knees tolerate firm EVA. A feedback dimensions row of 10 x 10 x 10 mm does not describe this pad, so ignore that cube and use the title. The bullets say you can wipe or rinse it. There is no hard base and nothing to hold when you stand. Buy it as a single thick slab for borders and a boot, and skip it if a previous 40 mm pad already felt like concrete.

Pros

  • About £7.99 for a pad the title sizes at 40 mm
  • 4.6 from 138 reviews
  • Some UK reviewers use it all day outdoors and keep it in the boot
  • Carrying hole, and the bullets say wipe or rinse

Cons

  • Several UK reviews call it hard, or only marginally better than the ground
  • One reviewer sent it back for bad knees
  • A catalogue row of 10 x 10 x 10 mm does not match the title
  • One pad only, with no hard base

Best for: You want one 40 mm EVA slab at a low price and your knees already cope with firm foam.

Less suitable: You have already found 40 mm EVA too hard, or you need a second pad and help standing.

Common questions

How thick is the ASelected pad?

The bullets say it resists water and can be wiped or rinsed. That is a listing claim, not a soak test.

Meff-Mluk EVA kneeling pads, 2-pack

Rank 8

Meff-Mluk EVA kneeling pads, 2-pack

∼£16

Our view

The Meff-Mluk pair is two black EVA pads stated at 42 x 26 x 4 cm and about £15.99, with 4.5 from 270 reviews. UK reviewers use them for tiling, garden work and car DIY, and one plumber clips a pad to a tool bag. A long review says there is no hard shell, so sharp gravel or rubble can still reach the knee through the foam. Other UK notes call the foam too hard, with little give compared with kneeling on concrete, and say the knees still ache after a long spell. The handle cut-out is described as only partly useful. The item-weight row says 530 g while the bullets say 290 g each, so the listing does not give you one agreed mass. It suits a job where a second pad means you are not stuck on a single rectangle, and it is a poor stand-in for a plastic-backed board on sharp stone.

Pros

  • Two pads at 40 mm, about £15.99, 4.5 from 270 reviews
  • UK reviews cover tiling, garden work and car cleaning
  • Built-in handle, and one reviewer clips it to a tool bag
  • One car-cleaning review says it holds up when wet

Cons

  • No hard shell for sharp gravel or rubble
  • Some UK reviewers call the foam too hard, with little give
  • Handle cut-out called only partly useful
  • Item weight 530 g conflicts with a 290 g bullet

Best for: You want a second 40 mm EVA pad for tiling, borders or car work on a surface that is not sharp rubble.

Less suitable: You kneel on sharp gravel, or you need a softer cushion than firm EVA.

Portwest KP05 kneeling pad

Rank 9

Portwest KP05 kneeling pad

Our view

The Portwest KP05 is a black EVA pad at about £3.84 with an integral handle and 4.4 from 1,088 reviews, which is the deepest cheap review file here. Amazon prints 30 x 20 x 2 cm and 110 g, while the Portwest sheet dated 24 September 2024 prints 40 x 18.5 x 2 cm, so the plan size is not agreed. UK reviewers call it enough for hard floors, decking and weeding, and also smaller than expected, a bit too firm or rock hard, with a pattern that stays on the knees for a while. The amazon.co.uk water-resistance row says it is not water resistant, even though the material row says EVA. The included-components row says a pair, and Portwest sells the KP05 as a single. At about 20 mm it sits under the 40 mm hard-ground rule of thumb used by UK garden writers. It is a sensible short toolbox pad at this price, and a false economy if the job is a long kneel on a patio.

Pros

  • About £3.84 with 4.4 from 1,088 reviews
  • Integral handle
  • UK reviews include floors, decking and weeding
  • Some regular users say it holds its shape

Cons

  • About 20 mm thick, and several UK reviews call it small or rock hard
  • Amazon 30 x 20 cm conflicts with the Portwest sheet at 40 x 18.5 cm
  • Amazon says not water resistant
  • Included-components row says a pair; Portwest sells a single

Best for: You want a cheap, light pad for a short kneel on a floor or deck and you can live with a firm 20 mm slab.

Less suitable: You need about 40 mm for a patio, an agreed plan size, or a pad the listing calls water resistant.

Faithfull FAITLKNEEL kneeler board

Rank 10

Faithfull FAITLKNEEL kneeler board

∼£21

Our view

The Faithfull FAITLKNEEL is foam on a waterproof plastic base at about £21.48, with 4.1 from 31 reviews. The brand page states a working surface of 450 x 345 mm for hard, sharp and cold surfaces, while the amazon.co.uk dimensions row reads 5.51 x 34.9 x 56.31 cm and 996 g. One UK reviewer liked the hard bottom because the mat stayed dry on wet grass and felt soft enough for a long spell. A verified UK review says the plastic edge was sharp enough to cut a knee while shuffling off the board, and two reviews describe a mat that arrived gouged or looking used. There is no handle and nothing to push on when you stand. The 5.51 cm figure is an overall height, not a foam depth you can line up against a 40 mm slab. Choose it when grit and damp are the problem and you will check the edge before you kneel, and leave it if you want a light rinseable pad with a large review file.

Pros

  • Waterproof plastic base under the foam
  • Brand working surface 450 x 345 mm
  • One UK review liked the dry underside on wet grass
  • Listed for garden, garage and worksite kneeling

Cons

  • One verified UK review reports a sharp edge that cut a knee
  • Two UK reviews describe a mat that arrived gouged or used
  • 4.1 from only 31 reviews
  • No carry handle and no help standing up

Best for: You want a plastic base under the foam for damp or gritty ground, and you will inspect the edge first.

Less suitable: You want a light rinseable slab, a large review file, or a board you can shuffle off without watching the rim.

HZUIZXYO folding kneeling mat

Rank 11

HZUIZXYO folding kneeling mat

∼£22

Our view

HZUIZXYO lists a red folding EVA mat at about £22.19, with a title size of 114.5 x 39 cm and a perforated handle, and 3.8 from eight reviews. Foam depth is not stated, so you cannot place it on the 25 mm or 40 mm rule of thumb. One UK review likes that it folds in more than one way and takes weight off the feet. A verified UK review says a seam tore after a single use. The listing claims it is waterproof and needs no assembly. At 860 g it is heavier than the small slabs, and about £22.19 sits near the Faithfull board, which at least states a plastic base. With eight reviews, the 3.8 line is a small sample. Consider it only if you specifically want a long mat you can fold, and skip it if you need a known foam depth and a larger UK sample.

Pros

  • Long mat, title size 114.5 x 39 cm, that the listing says folds
  • Perforated handle, no assembly claimed
  • One review likes folding it more than one way

Cons

  • Foam depth is not stated
  • A verified UK review says a seam tore after one use
  • 3.8 from only eight reviews
  • About £22.19 without a plastic base or a thickness you can check

Best for: You specifically want a long folding mat and you accept a tiny review file.

Less suitable: You need a stated foam depth, a plastic base, or more than eight reviews before you spend this much.

Common questions

Does it fold?

Yes. The listing says it folds and has a perforated handle. The listing also says no assembly is required.

How thick is the foam?

Foam depth is not stated. The title gives 114.5 x 39 cm.

What did UK reviews say about wear?

One verified review says a seam tore after a single use. Only eight reviews are on the listing.

How we compared

Eleven amazon.co.uk listings are scored on type and thickness, plan size, the face that meets the ground and whether you can get up, then on review evidence including conflicting figures. Strap-on knee pads were removed before scoring. There is no laboratory impact test and no EN 14404 mark on these listings. Stars count only with the review count on that listing. The top pick is the WORKPRO NBR pair, two stated 36 mm pads with 4.8 from 934 UK reviews. Best value is the ASelected 40 mm slab at the low price, with mixed UK comments on firmness. A 5.0 from seven reviews on a 16 mm six-pack does not outrank a thicker pad with a large review count. Gedore’s saved review texts are not from the United Kingdom.

1

Type and thickness

30%

A flat foam slab, a covered cushion, foam on a plastic base, a folding mat and a framed kneeler are different jobs. Points follow the stated thickness against a rule of thumb of about 25 mm, and about 40 mm on concrete, gravel or paving. A 16 mm or 20 mm pad does not score as a patio cushion. Conflicting thickness rows are not averaged.

2

Plan size

20%

Which? says both knees need room to move. A garden rectangle is about 42–44 cm by 26–28 cm. A pad around 17–21 cm wide is one-knee or toolbox size and is marked down for border work. A handle should still be usable in gloves.

3

Water, ground face and getting up

25%

A plastic base keeps damp and grit under the foam. Closed-cell EVA or NBR is sold as rinseable. A fabric cover can be washed and can hold dirt. A listing row that says not water resistant is not overwritten by the material name. Only a framed kneeler scores for supports you can hold. A flat pad does not.

4

Reviews and conflicting figures

25%

amazon.co.uk stars count only with the review count. A 5.0 from seven reviews is a thin sample. Gedore’s saved review texts are not UK buyers, so they are not used as British evidence. A sharp-edge review, a torn seam and a frame that would not lock are marked down. Load lines and impact percentages without a method are ignored.

Kneeling board buying guide

Start with the job, then the thickness and the plan size, then the face that meets the ground. A 16 mm slab and a framed kneeler do not do the same work. UK garden writers use about 25 mm as a minimum and about 40 mm on hard ground. That is a rule of thumb, not a British Standard. Shelf prices in this capture run from about £3.84 to about £39.99. The top pick is the WORKPRO NBR pair. The best value is the ASelected 40 mm slab.

What is a kneeling board?

A kneeling board is a pad or board you put on the ground and kneel on. UK shops sell the same job as a garden kneeler, a foam kneeling pad, or a plastic-backed kneeler board. A framed kneeler that flips into a seat belongs here when standing up is the hard part. Strap-on pads are a different product. BBC Gardeners' World uses mats, worn pads and stools. This page keeps mats, boards and the framed kneeler. Type comes before the brand.

Best for

  • Border gardeners who want a rinseable slab and can stand up unaided
  • Trades and DIY users who want a small firm pad for a short kneel
  • People who struggle to stand and will check that a frame locks

Not ideal for

  • A long kneel on paving bought as 16–20 mm foam
  • Help standing up, if you only buy a flat pad
  • Certified work knee protection under EN 14404

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

Buying 16–20 mm foam for a patio

UK garden writers use about 40 mm on concrete, gravel or paving, as a rule of thumb. The six-pack is stated at 16 mm and the Portwest KP05 at 20 mm. Those pads can suit a short indoor or toolbox kneel. They are a thin choice for a long weeding session.

  2. 2

Expecting a flat pad to help you up

Only the framed kneeler has supports you can hold. Arthritis Action names a kneeler seat with handles and says not to sit for too long. A foam slab, however thick, does not give you a handle that takes your weight.

  3. 3

Treating stars as an EN test

EN 14404 covers work knee protectors. None of these listings shows that mark. A 5.0 from seven reviews is a small sample. A 70% impact line and a 500 lb claim that conflicts with 400 lb have no test method here. Stars are amazon.co.uk opinion, not a laboratory result.

What to weigh up

Type, thickness and plan size

High

Choose the job before the brand. A foam slab, a covered cushion, a plastic-backed board, a folding mat and a framed kneeler answer different problems even when the title says kneeling board. Strap-on pads were left out of this set. Thickness is the figure that separates a token pad from a garden one. The rule of thumb from UK garden writing is about 25 mm at a minimum and about 40 mm on hard ground. It is not a British Standard.

Water, getting up and the review file

High

The face on the ground decides whether damp and grit stay off the knee. Foam on a plastic base, as on the Faithfull board, is the hard-skin option. The brand page gives a working surface of 450 x 345 mm. One verified UK review says the plastic edge cut a knee, so inspect the rim. Closed-cell EVA and NBR are sold as rinseable. A fabric cover can be washed and can hold soil. The Portwest water-resistance row says not water resistant, which overrides a guess from the EVA name.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Borders and a rinseable pad

You kneel on soil or grass and you can stand up unaided. WORKPRO NBR kneeling pads, 2-pack, at about £24.99, is the top pick: two slabs the highlight sizes at 36 mm, with 4.8 from 934 UK reviews that praise thickness and rebound. A second row says 7 cm, which is not confirmed. Skip it if you need a plastic skin on sharp gravel.

A short, firm toolbox kneel

You want a small firm pad for a short kneel on a floor, deck or beside a toolbox. Portwest KP05 at about £3.84 has 4.4 from 1,088 reviews and an integral handle. Amazon says 30 x 20 x 2 cm and not water resistant. The Portwest sheet says 40 x 18.5 x 2 cm. It is thin for a long patio session.

Standing up is the hard part

You need something to hold, and a seat when kneeling is not an option. Onadak foldable garden kneeler at about £39.99 is the only framed kneeler here, with 4.6 from 1,119 reviews. UK reviews praise the supports and also report a leg that failed and ferrules that wore through. Check the lock before you trust it. It weighs 4.43 kg.

Common questions about Kneeling boards

Which kneeling board is the top pick in 2026?
The top pick is the WORKPRO NBR kneeling pads, 2-pack, at about £24.99. The highlight states 280 x 440 x 36 mm, and amazon.co.uk shows 4.8 from 934 reviews. UK reviewers praise the thickness and the rebound, including on sensitive kneecaps. A second dimensions row says 7 cm, which does not match 36 mm, and a 70% impact line has no test method. There is no plastic base and nothing to hold when you stand. This is not an EN 14404 test.
Which kneeling board is the best value?
The best value is the ASelected 40 mm EVA kneeling pad, at about £7.99. The title states 430 x 280 x 40 mm and a carrying hole, with 4.6 from 138 reviews. Some UK reviewers keep it in the boot. Others call it hard, or only marginally better than the ground, and one sent it back. It will not help you stand, and it has no plastic base. A catalogue row of 10 x 10 x 10 mm does not describe this pad.
How much does a kneeling board cost?
Captured amazon.co.uk shelf prices in this set run from about £3.84 to about £39.99. Portwest KP05 is about £3.84 and the ASelected 40 mm pad is about £7.99. Covered pads and pairs sit from about £11.98 to about £24.99, including the WORKPRO two-pack at about £24.99. The Faithfull plastic-base board is about £21.48 and the HZUIZXYO folding mat is about £22.19. The Onadak framed kneeler is about £39.99. These are the listing lines captured for 19 October 2026.
How thick should a kneeling board be?
UK garden writers use about 25 mm as a minimum and about 40 mm on concrete, gravel or paving. That is a rule of thumb, not a British Standard. In this set the six-pack is stated at 16 mm and the Portwest KP05 at 20 mm. Several garden slabs are stated at 36–40 mm. The FINE GARDEN pad is stated at 7 cm. The WORKPRO highlight says 36 mm and another row says 7 cm. Foam depth is not stated for the folding mat or the framed kneeler.
How big should a kneeling board be?
Which? says both knees need room to move. Pads around 17–21 cm wide, such as the six-pack at 17 cm and the Gedore 906 at 210 mm, are one-knee or toolbox size. A garden rectangle is usually about 42–44 cm by 26–28 cm. The ASelected title is 430 x 280 mm. The Faithfull brand page states a working surface of 450 x 345 mm, while the amazon.co.uk dimensions row is a different overall size. A handle should still work in gloves.
Will a kneeling board help me stand up?
Only a framed kneeler has supports you can hold. In this set that is the Onadak, at about £39.99, with side supports and a seat when it is flipped. Arthritis Action names a kneeler seat with handles and says not to sit for too long. A flat foam pad does not help you stand. UK reviews of the Onadak also report a leg that would not work and ferrules that wore through, so check that the frame locks. For a wider look at that shape, see the kneeler garden comparison.
Are kneeling boards certified knee protection?
No. EN 14404:2024 covers work knee protectors, and type 3 is a mat on the ground. None of these listings shows that mark or a performance level. They are consumer mats. HSE guidance says employers must assess repetitive kneeling, and a pad is one control after changing the job, breaks and seating. Do not read a star rating as an impact test. A 70% reduction line, or a 500 lb load that conflicts with 400 lb, has no test report here.
When should I stop and get advice?
Get advice if the knee is hot, red, or you cannot bear weight. NHS information on knee pain is the place to start, not a thicker pad the same day. Stop if a board has cut you, as one Faithfull review describes a sharp plastic edge, or if a frame will not lock. Pads do not prevent osteoarthritis and they are not a clinical treatment. If the goods are faulty, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 usually allows 30 days to reject them. This page is not medical or legal advice.

Our verdict

The top pick is the WORKPRO NBR kneeling pads, 2-pack, at about £24.99. The listing states 280 x 440 x 36 mm, with 4.8 from 934 amazon.co.uk reviews. UK reviewers praise the thickness and the rebound. A second dimensions row prints 7 cm, which does not match the 36 mm highlight, and the 70% impact line has no test method. There is no plastic base and nothing to hold when you stand. The best value is the ASelected 40 mm EVA kneeling pad, at about £7.99, with 4.6 from 138 reviews. Some UK reviewers use it all day and keep it in the boot. Others call it hard, or only marginally better than the ground. It is one firm slab, not a pair, and it will not help you stand. None of these scores is an EN 14404 test.
