Peter F.Editor

Caparol paint is a trade-brand coating a UK shopper buys on amazon.co.uk for two jobs: a dead-matt interior emulsion for plaster and plasterboard, and a water-based enamel for primed doors, frames, metal and rigid PVC. You tell a suitable tin by the surface family on the data sheet, the wet-scrub class, the opacity class at a stated spreading rate, and whether the pack lines agree. Interior plaster and plasterboard take an emulsion. Dimensionally stable wood, primed metal and rigid PVC take an enamel, on the primer that sheet names. A universal acrylic can be used indoors and on smooth exteriors, and it is not an external-wall-insulation coating. How those families split is in the [Caparol paint buying guide](/hub/paints-and-varnishes/caparol-paint/sub/caparol-paint-buying-guide). Quality is the sheet class. Class 1 resists scrubbing more than class 2, and class 2 more than class 3. A class is not a waterproofing claim and not a mould claim. Several listings print volumes that cannot be the tin, so prefer the sheet when a coverage line disagrees. This category was not lab-tested.

Question 1 of 2

What are you coating?

The best Caparol paints in detail

CapaMaXX

Rank 1

CapaMaXX

∼£65

Our view

CapaMaXX is listed as a white matte interior wall and ceiling paint at £65.00, part 1110922, and the special feature says tintable. The title and the size cell say 5,000 l and 5,000 litres, the unit count says 12,500 ml, and the weight is 7.69 kg, so neither giant litre figure is a clean pack. The header is 5.0 from 13 reviews. Three stored texts, all marked Germany, say one coat left the wall white, the room did not smell of paint, and the white did not yellow. The paint-type cell says watercolour and the surface cell says wood, against bullets that name interior walls and ceilings. The Caparol UK sheet rates CapaMaXX wet-scrub class 2 and opacity class 1 at 8 m²/l. The listing itself has no coverage cell.

Pros

  • 5.0 from 13 reviews, with one-coat and low-smell notes in the file
  • Tintable white, part 1110922, at £65.00
  • Bullets name interior walls and ceilings
  • Caparol UK sheet: class 2 and opacity class 1 at 8 m²/l

Cons

  • Title of 5,000 litres conflicts with a 12,500 ml unit count
  • Paint-type cell says watercolour and the surface cell says wood
  • All three stored reviews are marked Germany
  • No coverage figure on the listing

Best for: Interior walls and ceilings when hiding matters and you will not trust the litre cells on the page.

Less suitable: Doors, exterior render, or a plan that treats 5,000 litres as the tin you will receive.

Common questions

What is CapaMaXX listed for?

The surface question is unanswered. Bullets call it an interior wall paint and a wall and ceiling paint. The surface recommendation field says wood, and indoor/outdoor says indoor.

Can you tint CapaMaXX?

The other-colours question is unanswered. The special feature says tintable and the colour field says white. The paint type field says watercolour.

Does the listing give a smell or dry time for CapaMaXX?

Neither smell nor dry time is on the listing. One review says the room did not smell of paint, and reviews say one coat left the wall white. Water resistance level is water resistant, with no true or false waterproof field.

Capacryl PU matt 2.5 L

Rank 2

Capacryl PU matt 2.5 L

∼£56

Our view

Capacryl polyurethane matt white is listed at £56.00 with a 2.5 l size and a unit count of 2,500 ml, while the item-volume cell says 25 litres. The header is 5.0 from six reviews, and the three stored texts are all marked Germany. Those notes say the second coat left a clean matt result, the brush did not form runs, and the paint did not dry too fast. The listing gives a 5-hour dry time and a 24-hour full cure, marks waterproof as false, and lists odour blocking, with the wood, primer and children's-room questions left unanswered. Coverage is printed as 10–12 square metres per litre. The EN 71-3 line and wet-scrub class 1 on the PU-Satin sheet are not in this saved listing, so they are not claimed for this ASIN.

Pros

  • Size and unit count both say 2.5 litres at £56.00
  • Dry time 5 hours and full cure 24 hours on the listing
  • Stored reviews describe an even matt second coat without runs
  • Odour blocking is the listed special feature

Cons

  • Item-volume cell says 25 litres
  • 5.0 from only six reviews, with all stored text marked Germany
  • Wood, primer and children's-room questions are unanswered
  • EN 71-3 and class 1 are not stated in this file

Best for: Interior joinery where you want a matt Capacryl and you will treat 2.5 litres as the pack.

Less suitable: A ceiling emulsion, a white radiator, or anyone quoting the 25-litre cell as the tin.

Common questions

Can Capacryl PU matt be used on wood?

The wood question is unanswered. Specific uses say interior and the surface recommendation says variety. No primer answer is on the listing either.

Is Capacryl PU matt listed as safe for a child's room?

The children's-room question is unanswered. The age range says general use product, and the special feature says odour blocking. Waterproof is false, with water resistance level water resistant.

How long does the listing say PU matt takes to dry?

Dry time is 5 hours and full cure is 24 hours. One review says it does not dry too fast or form runs, and that the second coat gave a clean matt result.

CapaSilan dead matt 5 litres

Rank 3

CapaSilan dead matt 5 litres

∼£61

Our view

CapaSilan is listed as a dead-matt white interior wall and ceiling paint, with a 5 litre title at £60.50, about £12.10 a litre, and the item-volume cell also at 5 litres. The amazon.co.uk line is 5.0 from only four reviews, and the single stored review, marked Germany, praises the seal on the packaging rather than the paint. The Caparol UK sheet puts this emulsion at wet-scrub class 1 and opacity class 1 at 7 m²/l, which is the sidelight product in the set, while the listing coverage cell says 10–12 m²/L. The surface field says plastic and the size field says 1 count, so those cells do not describe a 5 litre wall paint. A bullet claims the paint is emissions-minimised and solvent-free, and another says scrub-resistant, without a class number on the page. Waterproof is marked true, which the sheet does not turn into a damp-proofing claim.

Pros

  • Title and item volume both say 5 litres at £60.50
  • Caparol UK sheet: wet-scrub class 1 and opacity class 1 at 7 m²/l
  • Dead-matt white named for interior walls and ceilings
  • Bullet says emissions-minimised and solvent-free

Cons

  • 5.0 from four reviews; the only stored text is about the packaging
  • Size field says 1 count and the surface field says plastic
  • Listing coverage of 10–12 m²/L is above the sheet rate of 7 m²/l
  • No United Kingdom review text in the file

Best for: Plaster or plasterboard in sidelight when you want the class 1 dead-matt sheet and will ignore the plastic and 1-count cells.

Less suitable: Doors and trim, or anyone treating four reviews as a larger sample than the satin tin's 283.

Common questions

What surfaces does the CapaSilan listing name?

The surface question is unanswered. The title says interior walls and ceiling paint. Specific uses say interior, and the surface recommendation field says plastic.

Does the listing say CapaSilan has a strong smell?

The smell question is unanswered. A bullet says the paint is emissions-minimised and solvent free. The one review in the saved listing only mentions the packaging.

Is CapaSilan listed as waterproof?

The listing says waterproof true and water resistance level water resistant. Indoor use is the indoor/outdoor field. No dry time is given.

Capacryl PU satin 2.5 L

Rank 4

Capacryl PU satin 2.5 L

∼£55

Our view

Capacryl PU satin, part 1001-000367, is a 2.5 litre tin at £55.00, about £22 a litre, and the unit count agrees at 2,500 ml. The amazon.co.uk header is 4.6 from 283 reviews, the only large sample in this set, which is why it is the top pick on listing evidence. Of the 50 written reviews in the file, one is from the United Kingdom on 6 October 2026 and 49 are marked Germany, so the star line is not British opinion. That UK note says the dry film looks almost glossy even though the finish cell says satin, and other reviews name doors, frames, cladding, windows and a caravan interior. Several buyers say a Caparol primer was needed on dark wood, and adhesion failed where that step was skipped. Coverage complaints run to three or four coats, which sits closer to the Caparol UK sheet at about 100–120 ml/m² than to the listing's 25–30 m²/litre and wall-and-facade line. Smell is split, including a headache for two days in one review, and one tin was watery enough to wipe off.

Pros

  • 2.5 litres at £55.00, with the unit count at 2,500 ml
  • 4.6 from 283 reviews, the largest count in this set
  • Reviews describe a hard film on primed doors, frames and cladding
  • One United Kingdom review, dated 6 October 2026, is in the file

Cons

  • Listing coverage of 25–30 m²/litre conflicts with the sheet rate of about 100–120 ml/m²
  • Recommended uses say wall and facade coating, which the enamel sheet does not
  • Primer is absent from the listing; reviews say dark wood failed without it
  • Smell complaints, and 49 of 50 stored reviews are marked Germany

Best for: Primed doors, frames and rigid PVC when you want satin Capacryl and will follow the sheet rate rather than 25–30 m²/litre.

Less suitable: A facade coating, a room that cannot air after a strong smell, or dark wood painted with no primer.

Common questions

What surfaces does the listing give for Capacryl PU satin?

The surface question on the listing is unanswered. Recommended uses say external and internal wall and facade coating, and the compatible material is wood. Reviews mention doors, frames, cladding, a ceiling, windows, a stairwell, and a caravan interior.

Is Capacryl PU satin listed as waterproof?

The waterproof question is unanswered and there is no true or false field. One review says a caravan interior finish is washable, and another wiped small marks with a damp cloth.

Does the listing say Capacryl PU satin needs a primer?

Primer is not on the listing. Several reviews say a Caparol primer was needed, especially on dark wood, and that adhesion failed where primer was missed.

Capa Trend Elf

Rank 5

Capa Trend Elf

∼£91

Our view

Capa Trend Elf is the Lichtweiss matte acrylic at £91.00. The size field says 12.5 l, the unit count says 12,500 ml and the weight is 20.9 kg, which hang together as a 12.5 litre pail at about £7.30 a litre, the lowest defensible rate in this set, so it is the best value here. The title still says 12,500 L and the item volume says 12,500 litres. The header is 4.3 from 24 reviews, a larger sample than the 5.0 tins. Seven stored texts are all marked Germany: two say one coat covered, including a half-height grey wall, and one says the finish went patchy and needed a second coat. The listing gives a 4.0 hour dry time, low odour, indoor interior walls, and waterproof marked false. The Caparol UK sheet rates CapaTrend wet-scrub class 3 and opacity class 2 at 7 m²/l, so the cheaper litre is the weaker scrub class.

Pros

  • About £7.30 a litre using the 12.5 l size, 12,500 ml unit count and 20.9 kg weight
  • 4.3 from 24 reviews, a larger sample than the 5.0 tins
  • Listed for indoor interior walls, with a 4.0 hour dry time and low odour
  • Two stored reviews report one-coat cover, including over grey

Cons

  • Title says 12,500 L against a 12.5 l size field
  • Waterproof is false and the water-resistance level is not water resistant
  • One review says the finish went patchy and needed a second coat
  • Caparol UK sheet is wet-scrub class 3, and the stored reviews are marked Germany

Best for: Everyday interior walls and ceilings when a 12.5 litre pail and a lower price per litre matter more than class 1.

Less suitable: Doors and trim, a room with constant condensation, or a strong colour change where opacity class 2 can need a first coat.

Common questions

Where is Capa Trend Elf listed for use?

Specific uses say indoor use, the surface recommendation says interior walls, and the indoor/outdoor field says indoor. The colour is Lichtweiss, and a bullet says light white.

Is Capa Trend Elf waterproof?

Waterproof is false and the water resistance level is not water resistant. The special feature is low odour. Dry time is 4.0 hours. No coverage figure is on the listing.

Do the reviews say one coat of Capa Trend Elf is enough?

They disagree. One review says it goes patchy and needs a second coat. Two say one coat covered, including a half-height grey wall with no visible join. All seven saved reviews are from Germany.

Amphi Bolin

Rank 6

Amphi Bolin

∼£90

Our view

The listing titled Caparol Amphi Bolin is £89.99, semi-gloss, with low odour as the special feature and a bullet that says wet-scrub class 1 and high washable. The title says 5,000 l, the item volume says 5,000 litres, and the unit count says 5,000 ml, while the weight is 5 kg, so the pack you can defend is a nominal 5 litres at about £18 a litre if the millilitre count is the true one. The header is 4.2 from seven reviews, the lowest line in the set. Two stored texts, both marked Germany, praise coverage and mention wood. There is no paint-type field and no coverage figure. The Caparol UK Amphibolin sheet uses class 1 language that resembles those bullets, but this title does not spell Amphibolin, so the ASIN is not identified as that product.

Pros

  • Semi-gloss finish with low odour listed, at £89.99
  • Bullet names wet-scrub class 1 and high washable
  • Two stored reviews praise coverage, including on wood
  • A 5 kg weight fits a small tin better than a 5,000 litre drum

Cons

  • Title, 5,000 litres and 5,000 ml do not agree
  • 4.2 from seven reviews, both stored texts marked Germany
  • No coverage figure and no paint-type field
  • The title does not name Amphibolin

Best for: A buyer who already matches the class 1 bullets to a tin they know, and who accepts the volume conflict.

Less suitable: A dead-matt interior ceiling, or anyone ordering 5,000 litres because the title says so.

Common questions

What surfaces does the Amphi Bolin listing name?

The surface question is unanswered. There is no paint-type or recommended-use field. One review says it also works on wood and praises the coverage.

Does Amphi Bolin come in other colours?

The other-colours question is unanswered. The saved listing has no colour field. The finish type is semi-gloss and the special feature is low odour.

Is Amphi Bolin listed as washable?

There is no waterproof true or false field. A bullet says high washable and wet-scrub class 1. Item weight is 5 kg. The title says 5,000 l, the item volume says 5000 litres, and the unit count says 5000.0 millilitre.

How we compared

Six amazon.co.uk listings were scored from the stored listing files, not in a lab. Review evidence is weighted 50, fit against the Caparol UK sheet 25, price against this set 15, and review sentiment in the file 10. The top pick is the highest score, the only large sample at 4.6 from 283. The best value is the lowest defensible price per litre, about £7.30, even though that score is not the highest. Written reviews are marked Germany except one United Kingdom review on the satin enamel, dated 6 October 2026.

1

Review evidence

50%

Stars matter, but a 5.0 from a handful of reviews cannot outrank 4.6 from 283. The largest count takes the top of this block.

2

Listing fit

25%

A pack whose size, unit count and weight agree scores higher than a 5,000-litre cell. A coverage or facade line that contradicts the Caparol UK sheet scores lower. Sheet class is noted. It is not a lab result.

3

Price against this set

15%

Pounds per litre count only where a pack size is defensible. The lowest defensible rate is the best-value candidate. A dearer enamel is not treated as a tougher wall paint.

Primer failures, smell, a watery tin and a patchy coat reduce the mark. Packaging praise alone does not describe a film.

Caparol paint buying guide

Start with the surface family on the Caparol UK sheet, then the wet-scrub class and the opacity class at the stated rate, then whether the pack size, unit count and weight agree, then price per litre only among like-for-like tins. The notes below follow that order. None of these listings was lab-tested.

What to check before you buy Caparol paint

Caparol paint on amazon.co.uk in this set is two different jobs under one brand: dead-matt interior emulsions for walls and ceilings, and Capacryl polyurethane-acrylic enamel for primed doors, frames, metal and rigid PVC. UK shoppers are homeowners and decorators who want a trade-brand tin rather than a general emulsion, and who need the data sheet because the Amazon title, coverage and volume fields often contradict Caparol UK.

Best for

  • Decorators and DIYers repainting plaster who need a scrub class and a spreading rate, especially in sidelight
  • Homeowners recoating doors and uPVC who will budget for primer and two enamel coats
  • Trade buyers comparing a 12.5 L CapaTrend pail with a 5 L class 1 tin

Not ideal for

  • Using an interior emulsion on doors, or reading the satin listing as a facade paint
  • A room you cannot air, dark wood with no primer, or white Capacryl on a radiator
  • Flaking paint where lead is suspected, damp, mould, external wall insulation, or spray work in an occupied building

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

Putting an interior emulsion on doors

Interior plaster and plasterboard take CapaSilan, CapaMaXX or CapaTrend. Dimensionally stable wood, primed metal and rigid PVC take Capacryl on the primer that sheet names. An emulsion is the wrong film for joinery.

  2. 2

Trusting 25–30 m² per litre on the satin tin

The satin listing prints 25–30 m²/litre and wall and facade coating. The Caparol UK sheet says about 100–120 ml/m² on primed stable wood, metal and rigid PVC. Prefer the sheet when the listing disagrees.

  3. 3

Reading class 3 as class 1

CapaSilan is class 1. CapaMaXX is class 2. CapaTrend is class 3, which the sheet calls wash-resistant under the older DIN 53778 wording. Both tins can be white and matt. Class is not a waterproofing or mould claim.

What to weigh up

Surface, class and opacity

High

Interior plaster and plasterboard take an interior emulsion. Dimensionally stable wood, primed metal and rigid PVC take a water-based enamel on the primer the sheet names. A universal acrylic is the product that crosses indoors and smooth exteriors. It is not an external-wall-insulation coating, and the exterior-only grade must not be used indoors. Wet-scrub class comes from the Caparol UK sheet, not from a test run for this page.

Sheet, pack and price per litre

High

Prefer the Caparol UK figure when the Amazon coverage cell or the recommended-use line disagrees. The satin listing prints 25–30 m²/litre and wall and facade coating. The sheet says about 100–120 ml/m² on primed stable wood, metal and rigid PVC. Several listings print impossible volumes, including 25 litres and 5,000 litres. Use the title pack when the unit count agrees, and keep the conflict visible when it does not.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Sidelight walls

You are repainting plaster or plasterboard and sidelight will show the sheen. CapaSilan dead matt 5 litres is the class 1 sheet in this set, at about £60.50, with opacity class 1 at 7 m²/l on the Caparol UK page. The amazon.co.uk line is 5.0 from four reviews, and the stored text praises the packaging rather than the film.

Doors and uPVC

You are recoating primed doors, frames or rigid PVC and you will budget for the primer the sheet names. Capacryl PU satin 2.5 L is the top pick, at about £55.00, with 4.6 from 283 reviews. The listing coverage of 25–30 m²/litre disagrees with the sheet rate of about 100–120 ml/m².

Everyday walls

You are comparing a 12.5 litre pail with a 5 litre class 1 tin, and a lower price per litre matters more than class 1. Capa Trend Elf is the best value, at about £91.00, about £7.30 a litre where the 12.5 l size, 12,500 ml unit count and 20.9 kg weight agree. The sheet is wet-scrub class 3 and opacity class 2.

Common questions about Caparol paints

Which Caparol paint is the top pick in this comparison?
The top pick is Capacryl PU satin 2.5 L at about £55.00. It is the only large sample in this set, 4.6 from 283 reviews, which is why it has the highest score. The listing coverage of 25–30 m²/litre disagrees with the Caparol UK sheet rate of about 100–120 ml/m², and the recommended-use line says wall and facade coating, which the enamel sheet does not. One stored review is from the United Kingdom, dated 6 October 2026. The other 49 of 50 written reviews are marked Germany.
Which Caparol paint is the best value?
The best value is Capa Trend Elf at about £91.00. About £7.30 a litre, using the 12.5 l size field, the 12,500 ml unit count and the 20.9 kg weight, is the lowest defensible rate in this set. The header is 4.3 from 24 reviews. The title still says 12,500 L. The Caparol UK sheet rates CapaTrend wet-scrub class 3 and opacity class 2 at 7 m²/l, so the cheaper litre is the weaker scrub class. Waterproof on the listing is marked false.
How much does Caparol paint cost on amazon.co.uk?
In these six amazon.co.uk listings the 2.5 litre enamels are £55.00 and £56.00, about £22 a litre. CapaSilan is £60.50 for a 5 litre title and CapaMaXX is £65.00, about £12 to £13 a litre where a 5 litre pack is the figure you can defend. The Amphi Bolin listing is £89.99, about £18 a litre if 5,000 ml is the true pack. Capa Trend Elf is £91.00 for a 12.5 litre size, about £7.30 a litre. These figures are this set only, not a trade survey. Prices move.
What should you check before you buy Caparol paint?
Check the surface family on the Caparol UK sheet first. Interior plaster and plasterboard take an emulsion. Primed stable wood, metal and rigid PVC take an enamel. Then read the wet-scrub class and the opacity class at the stated spreading rate. Then check that the pack size, the unit count and the weight agree, because several titles print 25 litres or 5,000 litres. Prefer the sheet when an Amazon coverage cell disagrees. Nothing here was lab-tested.
Can the satin enamel be used as a facade paint?
The satin listing's recommended uses say external and internal wall and facade coating, and the coverage cell says 25–30 m²/litre. The Caparol UK sheet for Capacryl PU-Satin says about 100–120 ml/m² on primed stable wood, metal and rigid PVC. That sheet describes a trim enamel. Reviews mention doors, frames, cladding, windows and a caravan interior, and several say a primer was needed on dark wood. Follow the sheet rate. The facade line on the listing is not the specification.
Are these amazon.co.uk reviews British opinion?
Stars and counts are the amazon.co.uk header lines, not a UK-only sample. Capacryl PU satin is 4.6 from 283. Of 50 written reviews in that file, one is from the United Kingdom on 6 October 2026 and 49 are marked Germany. The stored texts for the other five listings are marked Germany. A 5.0 from four, six or 13 reviews is a small sample. Those notes are not British opinion.
What VOC and lead rules apply to Caparol paint in the UK?
SI 2012/1715 caps ready-for-use interior matt wall paint at 30 g/l and water-borne wood-and-metal trim paint at 130 g/l. The label states the sub-category, the limit and the maximum. NBS lists CapaSilan and CapaTrend under 1 g/l, inside the matt-wall cap. HSE CIS79 says lead remained in common paint into the early 1980s: wet-abrade sound old paint, and do not dry-sand it or burn it off. A general emulsion from other brands is a separate page, the emulsion paint comparison.

Our verdict

The top pick is Capacryl PU satin 2.5 L at about £55.00. It has the highest score because it is the only large sample, 4.6 from 283 reviews, even though the listing coverage of 25–30 m²/litre disagrees with the Caparol UK sheet at about 100–120 ml/m². The best value is Capa Trend Elf at about £91.00. About £7.30 a litre, from the 12.5 l size, the 12,500 ml unit count and the 20.9 kg weight, is the lowest defensible rate in this set. The Caparol UK sheet rates that emulsion wet-scrub class 3, not class 1.
