Privacy screen comparison 2026

The best privacy screens, compared.

Top pick: VOUNOT green net 1.8 x 10 m – Score 90 from 4.5 and 2,479 ratings: the tall 1.8 x 10 m outdoor net, ahead of the ivy roll that ties on stars with only 53 ratings. Best value: VOUNOT grey net 1 x 10 m – About £12.99 for 10 m at 150 g/m², the lowest shelf price and a heavier long cloth than the 90 g/m² nets. The height is 1 m. Updated October 2026.

A privacy screen on amazon.co.uk is one of three products: an HDPE mesh tied to a fence, a short roll of artificial ivy, or a freestanding folding room divider. You use the mesh to soften a slatted fence, a gate or a balcony, the ivy to cover a short ugly surface, and the divider to split a bedroom or studio without building a wall. Quality comes down to cloth weight, how you fix the screen, and whether the height stays inside the planning rule for a means of enclosure. Outdoor mesh here is 90, 150 or 175 gsm. Shade percentages are seller figures for light, not a blackout score, and reviewers of 75% and 85% cloth still report some see-through. The [privacy screen buying guide](/hub/hedges-and-privacy-screens/privacy-screen/sub/privacy-screen-buying-guide) separates those jobs. Heavier cloth is heavier on that listing only. Premier describes a shade percentage as a light figure, not a privacy standard. Amazon reviews call a single layer semi see-through. Do not read the photo as a blackout. Some reviews of the denser roll say 2.5 m, so quote both lengths before you mark a fence. Light and breeze still pass, according to the denser roll's bullets.

The best privacy screens in detail

VOUNOT green net 1.8 x 10 m

Rank 1

VOUNOT green net 1.8 x 10 m

∼£15

Our view

The VOUNOT green net is a 1.8 x 10 m HDPE sheet at 90 g/m², listed at £15.19 with 4.5 from 2,479 amazon.co.uk ratings, the largest review file in this comparison. The bullets claim up to 75% shading, yet reviews say light still passes, and some buyers added a second layer before the cover matched the photos. The box includes 50 cable ties and 22 clips, and reviews say the clips work on a railing and fail on a wooden fence or on wire, where buyers used ties only. The listing says you can cut it, and reviews say it arrives folded rather than on a roll, at a pack weight of 1.98 kg. In this capture it is the top pick for a tall, long fence when you accept a lighter cloth and some see-through. It is the wrong sheet if you wanted the 150 g/m² grey net or a bedroom divider.

Pros

  • 1.8 x 10 m, the tallest long net in this set
  • 4.5 from 2,479 amazon.co.uk ratings
  • 50 cable ties and 22 clips stated in the listing
  • £15.19 for ten metres of fence cover

Cons

  • 90 g/m² is lighter than the grey VOUNOT and the Amazon Basics cloth
  • Reviews say light still passes and some buyers doubled the layer
  • Supplied clips are poor on timber and wire, according to reviews

Best for: You have a fence about 1.8 m high and about 10 m long, and some see-through is acceptable.

Less suitable: You want the heavier 150 g/m² cloth, or you are splitting a room indoors.

Common questions

Does this 1.8 m VOUNOT net block the view?

The bullets say up to 75% shading. Reviews say light still passes and some buyers used a second layer before it matched the photos.

Will the supplied clips fit a wooden fence?

The box includes 50 cable ties and 22 clips. Reviews say the clips are fine on a railing and poor on a wooden fence or on wire, where buyers used ties only.

Can you cut it to length?

The listing says the fence screen can be cut to the size you want. Reviews agree it can be cut, and that it arrives folded rather than on a roll.

Vinclus ivy 1200 leaves

Rank 2

Vinclus ivy 1200 leaves

∼£22

Our view

The denser Vinclus roll is an artificial ivy strip at £21.99, with a title of 1 x 3 m, a claim of 1,200 leaves, resin, and a weight of 1.1 kg. The amazon.co.uk line is 4.5 from 53 ratings, a small sample next to the fence nets, and some reviews describe 1.0 x 2.5 m rather than the 3 m title, so measure against the live listing before you mark a fence. The bullets say foliage softens a view while light and breeze still pass. One buyer fixed it to a front fence to stop a dog barking and said the barking did not stop. Assembly required is listed as no, and a review describes thick flexible plastic with synthetic fabric leaves. It suits a short decorative cover when you want leaves rather than mesh, and it is a poor substitute for ten metres of HDPE.

Pros

  • Title claims 1,200 leaves on a 1 x 3 m roll
  • 4.5 from 53 amazon.co.uk ratings
  • Resin strip at 1.1 kg, no frame assembly listed
  • £21.99 for a short green cover

Cons

  • Some reviews describe 2.5 m, not the 3 m title
  • Light and breeze still pass, according to the bullets
  • Only 53 ratings, and one buyer said a dog still barked through it

Best for: You want leaves on a short fence or wall of about three metres, and you will check the delivered length.

Less suitable: You need ten metres of cover, or a listing whose length lines agree.

Common questions

How long is this denser Vinclus roll?

The title says 1 x 3 m and 1,200 leaves. Some reviews describe 1.0 x 2.5 m. Those lengths are not the same, so check the live listing before you measure a fence.

Does it stop a dog barking at the fence?

One buyer fixed it to a front fence for that reason and said the barking did not stop. The bullets say foliage softens a view while light and breeze still pass.

What is it made of?

The specification line says resin. A review describes thick flexible plastic with synthetic fabric leaves. Assembly required is listed as no.

VOUNOT grey net 1 x 10 m

Rank 3

VOUNOT grey net 1 x 10 m

∼£13

Our view

The VOUNOT grey net is a 1 x 10 m HDPE sheet at 150 g/m², listed at £12.99 with 4.4 from 2,150 amazon.co.uk ratings. The bullets claim up to 85% shading, and reviews still say you can see through it a little, so that percentage is a light figure rather than a solid wall. The box states 50 cable ties and 22 clips. One review says those ties were too short, and longer ones were bought separately. The pack weighs 1.36 kg, and one reviewer thought the cloth looked wider than the 1 m title. It is the best value pick in this set when you want ten metres of the heavier cloth here. It is a poor match if the fence is 1.8 m tall or you need a screen you cannot see through.

Pros

  • 1 x 10 m at 150 g/m², the heavier long net in this set
  • £12.99, the lowest shelf price in this capture
  • 4.4 from 2,150 amazon.co.uk ratings
  • 50 cable ties and 22 clips stated in the listing

Cons

  • Reviews say you can still see through the 85% shade claim
  • One review found the supplied ties too short
  • The title height is 1 m, so a 1.8 m fence stays partly open

Best for: You want about ten metres of heavier mesh on a fence around a metre high.

Less suitable: You need 1.8 m of cover, or a cloth you cannot see through at all.

Common questions

Is 85% shade the same as a solid screen?

The bullets say up to 85% shading. Reviews say it is thicker than cheaper nets and that you can still see through it a little.

Are the cable ties long enough?

The listing includes 50 cable ties and 22 clips. One review says those ties were too short and longer ones were bought separately.

How tall is the grey VOUNOT roll?

The title size is 1 x 10 m. One review said it looked wider than expected. The pack dimensions are 83.82 x 7.62 x 0.25 cm and the pack weight is 1.36 kg.

Amazon Basics screen 3 x 10 ft

Rank 4

Amazon Basics screen 3 x 10 ft

∼£13

Our view

The Amazon Basics screen is a black 175 GSM HDPE sheet, 3 x 10 ft (91.44 x 304.8 cm), at £13.29 with 4.4 from 325 ratings. The bullets say you can fit it without tools, using 20 zip ties of 300 mm through aluminium grommets, and a review also says no drill was required. The same bullets say the cloth lets air and light through, and reviews call a single layer semi see-through rather than a blackout. The pack weighs 594.21 g, so it is light to hang on a short run. At about three metres it covers a gate or a balcony bay, and it is too short for a ten-metre fence unless you buy several packs and more ties. It is a sensible short black panel in this set, and a weaker choice if you wanted the review volume of the ten-metre VOUNOT nets.

Pros

  • 175 GSM HDPE, the heaviest cloth weight stated in this set
  • Aluminium grommets and 20 zip ties of 300 mm
  • About 0.91 x 3.05 m, a useful length for a gate or balcony
  • 4.4 from 325 amazon.co.uk ratings at £13.29

Cons

  • Reviews say a single layer is semi see-through
  • About 3 m long, so a 10 m fence needs several packs
  • Far fewer ratings than the ten-metre VOUNOT nets

Best for: You need a short black mesh, about three metres, on a fence, patio or balcony.

Less suitable: You are covering about ten metres, or you want a cloth reviewers call opaque.

Common questions

Does the Amazon Basics screen need a drill?

The bullets say tool-free installation with 20 zip ties of 300 mm through aluminium grommets. A review also says no drill was required.

Is it a blackout?

The bullets say the 175 GSM cloth allows subtle air and light flow. Reviews say it is not a blackout and looks semi see-through as a single layer.

How long is one pack?

The bullets say 3 x 10 feet, height by length. The technical table lists 91.44 x 304.8 x 0.4 cm and a weight of 594.21 g.

FunkyBuys green net 1 x 10 m

Rank 5

FunkyBuys green net 1 x 10 m

∼£16

Our view

FunkyBuys lists a green 1 x 10 m garden screen at 90 gsm and £15.66, with 4.4 from 129 ratings. The title does not state a shade percentage, and the bullets claim UV blocking, water resistance and wind reduction without a measured figure. Reviews say fasteners and ties are included, and that the black clips break or are awkward, so buyers used their own cable ties. One review doubled the net on a 5-bar gate because a single layer did not hide the view. The pack weighs 990 g. The polymer is not named on the page. It can cover ten metres of a metre-high fence. It is a weaker buy than the VOUNOT grey net, which is cheaper in this capture, states 150 g/m², and has a much larger review file.

Pros

  • 1 x 10 m at £15.66
  • 4.4 from 129 amazon.co.uk ratings
  • Reviews confirm it can be doubled on a gate
  • Pack weight 990 g, light to handle

Cons

  • No shade percentage on the listing
  • Reviews say the black clips break or are awkward
  • 90 gsm with the polymer unnamed, and only 129 ratings

Best for: You want a green 1 x 10 m net and you will bring your own cable ties.

Less suitable: You need a stated shade rate, or you want the review volume of the VOUNOT nets.

Common questions

What shade percentage does FunkyBuys state?

The title gives 90 gsm and 1 x 10 m. It does not state a shade percentage. Bullets claim UV blocking, water resistance, and wind reduction.

Do the clips hold?

The bullets do not count the fixings. Reviews say fasteners and ties are included, and that the black clips break or are awkward, so buyers used their own cable ties.

Will one layer hide a view through a gate?

One review doubled the net on a 5-bar gate because a single layer was not enough. The listing does not claim a blackout.

HIDODO 4-panel divider

Rank 6

HIDODO 4-panel divider

∼£70

Our view

The HIDODO screen is a grey four-panel divider, 224 x 178 cm, with 180 gsm coated polyester, a steel frame and a listed weight of 8.51 kg, at £69.99. Ten wheels are stated, five of them braked. The star line is 4.2 from 30 ratings, a small file for the highest divider price here. A review says it stands well but can tip if a child leans on it, because the base is wheels rather than fixed pegs. The bullets say cover strips block light between the panels, and a review used that strip as a backdrop. Indoor use is the listing line. Each panel is also listed as 52 x 164 cm, so the headline width is not four times a flat panel once the screen stands in a zig-zag. It suits a compact indoor split when you will lock the brakes. It is expensive next to the WELDUN at £39.99 if you do not need those brakes.

Pros

  • 224 x 178 cm four-panel with cover strips claimed
  • 10 wheels, 5 of them braked
  • 4.2 from 30 amazon.co.uk ratings
  • 180 gsm coated polyester at 8.51 kg

Cons

  • £69.99, the highest price in this set, from only 30 ratings
  • A review says a child can tip it
  • Indoor only on the listing, so it is not a garden screen

Best for: You want a four-panel indoor screen with brakes and hinge strips, and the £69.99 price is acceptable.

Less suitable: Children will lean on it, or you wanted a garden net at a tenth of the price.

Common questions

A review says it stands well but can tip if a child leans on it, because the base is wheels rather than fixed pegs. Five of the ten wheels have brakes.

Does it hide the gap at the hinges?

The bullets say cover strips are supplied to block light between the panels. A review used that strip as a backdrop and said it blocks light.

Is it for the garden?

Indoor/outdoor usage is listed as indoor. The frame is steel and the cloth is 180 gsm coated polyester.

Kokorona 6-panel divider

Rank 7

Kokorona 6-panel divider

∼£66

Our view

The Kokorona screen is a grey six-panel divider: the title is about 329 x 176 cm, the table also says 3.29 x 1.76 m, and a bullet says 335 x 176 cm. Cloth is 180 gsm polyester on iron tubes, the listed weight is 10.5 kg, and the price is £65.99 with 4.0 from 519 ratings. The bullets say about 15 minutes with no help, yet reviews say the first build takes longer, and one buyer called the 15-minute line untrue. A review says it is a little unstable unless set straight, because there are only two stability bars, one at each end. The title includes cover strips, and reviews say those strips close the joins and block light between the panels. Indoor and outdoor use is claimed. It is the wide split in this set when you accept a zig-zag and a longer first build, and too much screen if you only need to hide a corner of a bedroom.

Pros

  • Six panels, the widest divider in this set
  • Cover strips that reviews say close the hinge gaps
  • 4.0 from 519 amazon.co.uk ratings
  • 180 gsm polyester at a listed 10.5 kg

Cons

  • Reviews dispute the 15-minute build
  • A review says it is unsteady unless set straight
  • Size lines disagree: 329 cm, 335 cm and 3.29 m

Best for: You are splitting a wide bedroom or studio and you want cover strips over the joins.

Less suitable: You need a small corner screen, or you are counting on a 15-minute first build.

Common questions

Does it really take 15 minutes to build?

Will a 6-panel screen stand in a corner?

A review says it is a little unstable unless set straight, because there are only two stability bars, one at each end. The bullets claim bent feet to resist tipping.

Are the gaps between panels covered?

The title includes cover strips. Reviews say those strips close the joins and block light between the panels.

Vinclus ivy roll 1 x 3 m

Rank 8

Vinclus ivy roll 1 x 3 m

∼£22

Our view

The maple Vinclus roll is a 1 x 3 m artificial ivy strip at £21.99 and 950 g, with 4.0 from 23 amazon.co.uk ratings. The title says dense foliage, but reviews split: some call the cover good, others say the leaves are sparse, the photo flatters the roll, and gaps remain. Assembly required is listed as no, yet you still cut it and fix it with staples, nails or zip ties, and the included-components line says a rolling strip while reviews mention cable ties. Bullets claim UV, waterproof and frost-proof use with no test figure. One review says leaves pull off the grid and might shed in wind; another says the leaves stayed secure. It is a short green cover when the parcel matches the photo you liked, and a poor choice if you need a stated shade rate or a ten-metre run.

Pros

  • 1 x 3 m continuous roll at 950 g
  • No frame assembly on the listing
  • £21.99, the same shelf price as the denser Vinclus roll
  • Reviews include buyers who found the leaves secure

Cons

  • Only 23 ratings, and several call the leaves sparse
  • One review says leaves pull off the grid
  • UV and frost claims have no test figure on the page

Best for: You want a maple-coloured ivy look on about three metres and you have seen recent photos of the actual roll.

Less suitable: Gaps in the foliage would bother you, or you need a measured shade percentage.

Assembly required is listed as no. You still cut it and fix it with staples, nails, or zip ties. The included-components line says a rolling strip.

Will the leaves stay on outdoors?

Bullets claim UV, waterproof, and frost-proof use with no test figure. One review says leaves pull off the grid and might shed in wind. Another says the leaves stayed secure.

WELDUN 4-panel divider

Rank 9

WELDUN 4-panel divider

∼£40

Our view

The WELDUN screen is a black four-panel divider with a highlight size of 223.5 x 183 cm, 240 gsm polyester, lockable PE wheels and a weight of 7.72 kg, at £39.99. The amazon.co.uk line is 3.9 from 206 ratings. The assembly line says no tools. Reviews say a Phillips screwdriver was needed, and that some holes were drilled too small or in the wrong ends. Reviews include both a sturdy build and screens that were flimsy or blew over in a gentle breeze. A separate item-dimensions line says 30 x 40 cm, which is not the highlight size. The cloth is the heaviest divider fabric in this set, and the listing says indoor use. It is a reasonable four-panel at the same £39.99 as the lighter REDCAMP if you treat the no-tools line as a claim, not a promise.

Pros

  • 240 gsm polyester, the heaviest divider cloth in this set
  • Lockable PE wheels and a widened base claimed
  • £39.99 with 3.9 from 206 ratings
  • Listed weight 7.72 kg

Cons

  • Reviews say a screwdriver was needed despite the no-tools line
  • Some reviews say it was flimsy or blew over in a light breeze
  • Highlight size 223.5 x 183 cm conflicts with a 30 x 40 cm line

Best for: You want a heavier four-panel indoor screen around £40 and you can spare a screwdriver.

Less suitable: You believed the no-tools line, or the screen will stand in a draught by a door.

REDCAMP 4-panel divider

Rank 10

REDCAMP 4-panel divider

∼£40

Our view

The REDCAMP screen is a black four-panel divider, about 2.04 x 1.73 m, with 130 g polyester on an iron frame and a listed weight of 4.34 kg, at £39.99. The star line is 3.1 from 40 ratings, the lowest in this set. Several reviews call it flimsy and say it tips, and one buyer tied it to the ceiling so a dog could not knock it over. Lockable wheels are not listed. Reviews also say the fabric sleeves are tight, stitches were cut to pass the poles, and the instructions were pictures on the listing rather than a sheet in the box. The highlight says indoor outdoor, while this is the lightest divider cloth here. It is only worth a look if £39.99 and four panels are the whole brief. It is a poor default if the screen has to stand on its own.

Pros

  • Four panels at £39.99
  • About 2.04 x 1.73 m when the size line is the one you use
  • Iron frame with polyester cloth
  • Whole screen listed at 4.34 kg, light to move

Cons

  • 3.1 from 40 ratings, the weakest star line here
  • Reviews say it tips and that hinge gaps show
  • 130 g cloth, and no lockable wheels listed

Best for: You want a cheap four-panel frame and you can brace it so it cannot be knocked over.

Less suitable: You need a screen that stands in a zig-zag without being tied to the ceiling.

Why do reviews say it tips over?

Several reviews call it flimsy and say it tips or that you can see through the gaps. One buyer tied it to the ceiling so a dog could not knock it over. Lockable wheels are not listed.

Are the poles easy to fit?

Bullets say no tools and a weight of about 4 kg. Reviews say the fabric sleeves are tight, stitches were cut to pass the poles, and instructions were pictures on the listing rather than a sheet in the box.

Is the cloth heavy?

The material line says 130 g polyester. That is the lightest divider cloth in this set. The table weight of the whole screen is 4.34 kg.

How we compared

The score on each listing is the amazon.co.uk star rating divided by 5 and shown from 0 to 100. It is not a garden trial and not a light-meter test. Shade percentages stay seller claims. The green VOUNOT net and the denser Vinclus ivy both score 90. The top pick is the green net because 2,479 ratings beat 53, and it is the tall outdoor screen this category is built around.

Shelf price for the job

15%

Best value is the grey VOUNOT net at about £12.99: the lowest shelf price, 150 g/m², and ten metres. Amazon Basics also scores 88, at about £13.29 for about 3 m, so it is not that award.

Privacy screen buying guide

Name the job before the price. A fence net, a short ivy roll and a folding divider are three products, and a shade percentage is a light claim.

What is a privacy screen?

A privacy screen on amazon.co.uk in this set is an HDPE mesh, a short artificial ivy roll, or a freestanding folding room divider. You use the mesh on a slatted fence, a gate or a balcony. You use the ivy on a short ugly surface. You use the divider to split a bedroom or studio without building a wall. A net at about £13 and a divider at about £66 are not substitutes. Outdoor mesh here is 90, 150 or 175 gsm.

Best for

  • A fence owner who wants a weekend cover for slats, wire or a gate
  • A renter who needs a fold-away split in one room and will not fix to the walls

Not ideal for

  • Anyone who needs a cloth reviewers call opaque, or a 1.8 m cover from a 1 m roll
  • A balcony rail if you treat a 1.8 m fence roll as a safety barrier

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

Reading a shade percentage as blackout

The 75% and 85% lines are seller figures for light. Reviews of both VOUNOT nets still report some see-through. FunkyBuys states no shade percentage at all.

  2. 2

    Using railing clips on timber

Reviews of the green VOUNOT net say the supplied clips fail on a wooden fence and on wire. Buyers used cable ties. One grey-net review says the supplied ties were too short.

  3. 3

Buying 3 m of ivy for 10 m of fence

Both Vinclus rolls are titled 1 x 3 m, and some reviews of the denser roll say 2.5 m. A ten-metre fence needs a ten-metre net, not one ivy strip.

What to weigh up

Job, cloth weight and the shade claim

High

Choose the job first. A long fence, a short decorative cover and an indoor split are different products. Outdoor mesh in this set is 90, 150 or 175 gsm. Divider cloth is 130 g, 180 gsm or 240 gsm. Higher is heavier on that listing only. Read the shade line with the reviews. Up to 75% and up to 85% are seller light claims, and reviewers still report see-through. The green net is the top pick when the fence is about 1.8 m by 10 m.

Fixing, printed size and fence height

High

Cable ties and grommets suit a fence. Clips in the box often fail on timber, according to reviews. Dividers need a zig-zag, brakes if they have wheels, and cover strips if hinge gaps matter. Title widths and each-panel widths do not always multiply: the denser ivy title says 1 x 3 m while some reviews say 2.5 m, and Kokorona prints 329 cm, 335 cm and 3.29 m. In England a new means of enclosure over 2 metres, or over 1 metre next to a highway used by vehicles, is not permitted development.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

A fence about 1.8 m

You want about ten metres of cover on a tall fence and you can accept some see-through. The VOUNOT green net is the top pick: 1.8 x 10 m, 90 g/m², about £15.19, 4.5 from 2,479 ratings, score 90. Reviews say the supplied clips fail on timber and wire.

A fence about 1 m high

You want ten metres of the heavier long cloth, and the fence is about a metre high. The VOUNOT grey net is the best value at about £12.99, 150 g/m², score 88 from 4.4 and 2,150 ratings. It is still not opaque, and it will not cover a 1.8 m fence.

A fold-away room split

You will not fix anything to the walls. The HIDODO four-panel divider scores 84, the highest divider line here, at about £69.99, with five braked wheels. Only 30 ratings sit behind that line, and a review says a child can tip it. Lock the brakes.

Common questions about privacy screens

Which privacy screen is the top pick?
The top pick is the VOUNOT green net, 1.8 x 10 m at 90 g/m², about £15.19. It scores 90 from 4.5 and 2,479 amazon.co.uk ratings. The denser Vinclus ivy also scores 90, from only 53 ratings. The green net takes the award because that review file is far larger and it is the tall outdoor screen. Reviews still say light passes, and the clips fail on timber and wire. Best value is the grey VOUNOT net, about £12.99, at 1 m high.
How much does a privacy screen cost on amazon.co.uk?
In this set, mesh runs from about £12.99 to about £15.66. The grey VOUNOT net is about £12.99 for 1 x 10 m. Amazon Basics is about £13.29 for about 3 m. The green VOUNOT net is about £15.19. FunkyBuys is about £15.66. Both Vinclus ivy rolls are about £21.99. WELDUN and REDCAMP are about £39.99. Kokorona is about £65.99 and HIDODO is about £69.99. These are the ten listing prices, not a cheapest-price promise.
Does a shade percentage mean you cannot see through?
No. Shade percentages on these nets are seller figures for light, not a privacy score measured for this page. The green VOUNOT net claims up to 75% shading, and reviews say light still passes. The grey net claims up to 85%, and reviews say you can still see through it a little. Amazon Basics reviews call a single layer semi see-through. FunkyBuys states no shade percentage. Premier Netting treats a shade percentage as a light figure, not a standard for blocking a view.
Do you need planning permission for a fence screen?
In England, a new means of enclosure over 2 metres, or over 1 metre next to a highway used by vehicles, is not permitted development. Raising a fence above the greater of its old height and those limits is the same. Listed-building curtilage is excluded. Wales uses the same 1 metre and 2 metre pattern. Scotland's householder limit is 2 metres, or 1 metre if it fronts a road or comes forward of the house. Northern Ireland is a separate order. Check the council before you add height.
Is a plastic privacy screen a high hedge?
No. Section 66 of the Anti-social Behaviour Act 2003 defines a high hedge as living evergreens over 2 metres. Plastic mesh, an artificial ivy roll and a room divider are not that hedge, so the high-hedge complaint does not cover a neighbour's mesh. GOV.UK says the council cannot order removal of a living hedge, or a cut below 2 metres. A dispute about a plastic screen follows the planning rules for a means of enclosure.
Will the clips in the box fit a wooden fence?
Often they do not. Reviews of the VOUNOT green net say the 22 clips suit a railing and fail on a wooden fence or on wire, so buyers used cable ties only. One grey-net review says the supplied ties were too short. FunkyBuys reviews say the black clips break or are awkward. Amazon Basics supplies grommets and 20 zip ties of 300 mm, and a review says no drill was required. Fitting steps for mesh and ivy are in how to fit a privacy screen.
Should you buy mesh, ivy or a room divider?
Name the job first. A fence about 1.8 m high points to the green VOUNOT net. A fence about 1 m high points to the grey net, the heavier cloth at the lowest price here. Ivy covers a short surface of about 3 m and is a poor substitute for 10 m of fence. A folding divider splits a room and does not tie to a fence. For a fence cover that is not plastic mesh, see the reed mat comparison.
Can a room divider stand in a straight line?
Do not assume a straight line will stand. HIDODO has five braked wheels, and a review says a child can tip it. WELDUN claims lockable wheels, and some reviews say it blew over in a gentle breeze. A Kokorona review says it is a little unstable unless set straight, with only two stability bars. REDCAMP lists no lockable wheels, and one buyer tied it to the ceiling. The no-tools and 15-minute lines are disputed. Mesh is not a pool barrier.

Our verdict

The top pick is the VOUNOT green net, 1.8 x 10 m at 90 g/m², about £15.19. It scores 90 from 4.5 and 2,479 ratings, tied with the denser Vinclus ivy. The award goes to the green net because the review file is far larger and it is the tall outdoor screen. Reviews still report see-through, and the supplied clips fail on timber and wire. Best value is the VOUNOT grey net, 1 x 10 m at 150 g/m², about £12.99, score 88 from 4.4 and 2,150 ratings. It is the lowest shelf price and a heavier long cloth than the 90 g/m² nets. It is still not opaque, and the height is 1 m. Amazon Basics also scores 88, at about £13.29 for about 3 m of 175 gsm cloth, so it is not the best-value award.
