Top pick: Yongyann PVC skirting 7 cm × 6 m Best value: TranRantic flexible PVC 8 m – About £13.99 for 8 m, about £1.75 a metre, with 4.2 from 45 reviews. UK notes include a cover over old skirting and a fold that splits. Updated October 2026.

Skirting board is the trim where the wall meets the floor. It covers the plaster edge, takes knocks, and hides the expansion gap on a floating floor. amazon.co.uk uses “skirting” for two different products: a rigid MDF or pine board, and a peel-and-stick PVC, vinyl, EVA or foam cover. On a rigid board, match the height and profile already in the house, and the moisture grade of the room. On a cover, judge the width and whether UK reviewers say the adhesive held. A rigid MDF or pine board is saw-cut and fixed with grab adhesive plus nails or screws. A peel-and-stick cover is PVC, vinyl, EVA or foam, about 20–100 mm high and 3–8 m long, either or flat. How to choose is set out in the [skirting board buying guide](/hub/flooring/skirting-board/sub/skirting-board-buying-guide).

The best skirting boards in detail

Yongyann PVC skirting 7 cm × 6 m

Rank 1

Yongyann PVC skirting 7 cm × 6 m

∼£10

Our view

The Yongyann roll is white flexible PVC, 7 cm by 6 m, listed at 113.4 g and about £9.99. amazon.co.uk shows 5.0 from 2 reviews, and the notes contain one of them. That UK reviewer used it to cover discoloured wood under built-in cabinets, said it stuck and had stayed on so far, and said they would not choose it instead of a skirting board. They also say you have to be careful when applying it. There is no second UK text, so there is no repeated defect and no repeated success on a room run. The bullets say no nails or glue, a scissor or knife cut, and bathroom moisture, with no standard. A 5.0 on two ratings is the listing’s arithmetic. It is not evidence that the roll survives a hallway.

Pros

  • About £9.99 for 6 m, about £1.67 a metre
  • 7 cm width stated, with dimensions 600 × 7 × 7 cm
  • The one UK review says it stuck under cabinets
  • Bullets describe a cut-and-press fit with no nails

Cons

  • 5.0 from 2 reviews, with one text in the notes
  • That reviewer would not use it instead of a skirting board
  • 113.4 g for 6 m is a very light strip
  • Bathroom moisture is a claim with no standard

Best for: You are covering a small run of discoloured wood under cabinets, which is the job the only UK review describes.

Less suitable: Room skirting, or any choice that treats 5.0 from 2 as a durability test.

Common questions

Did UK reviewers use this as room skirting?

The one UK review used it to cover discoloured wood under cabinets and said they would not choose it instead of a skirting board.

How many stars is 5.0 based on?

The listing line is 5.0 from 2 reviews. The notes contain one of them.

VCANIVR soft skirting 20 × 20 mm, 6 m

Rank 2

VCANIVR soft skirting 20 × 20 mm, 6 m

Our view

The smaller VCANIVR strip is white self-adhesive plastic, titled 20 × 20 mm by 6 m, at about £8.99. amazon.co.uk shows 4.4 from 73 reviews. The notes contain two United Kingdom reviews, and both are one line, with no description of a room, a corner, or a failure. The other review blocks are from Italy and Germany, so they are not treated here as UK opinion. The specification line says 40 × 60 × 40 mm, which conflicts with a 6 m roll. The bullets say you peel removable adhesive strips and press the length onto the joint, and they name kitchen and bathroom without an EN class. At about £1.50 a metre it is the cheapest cover in the set, and 20 mm is a gap filler rather than a skirting height.

Pros

  • About £8.99 for 6 m, about £1.50 a metre
  • 4.4 from 73 on the listing line
  • Title size is a clear 20 × 20 mm
  • Bullets describe a peel-and-press fit with scissors or a knife

Cons

  • Only two UK reviews, both one line with no job described
  • Specification size 40 × 60 × 40 mm conflicts with 6 m
  • 20 mm high, so it will not cover a 94 mm board
  • Kitchen and bathroom lines are claims, not a standard

Best for: You are filling a 20 mm joint and you treat the 4.4 as a listing figure with almost no UK detail.

Less suitable: Replacing or covering full-height skirting, or any decision that needs a described UK fit.

Common questions

Are the 73 reviews from the UK?

Austin Commerce bullnose pine 60 cm

Rank 3

Austin Commerce bullnose pine 60 cm

∼£11

Our view

The Austin Commerce board is one white primed pine bullnose, 60 cm long, with the bullets giving a 14.5 × 94 mm profile, at about £10.99. On amazon.co.uk the listing is 4.4 from 30 reviews, and the nine UK texts praise a primed face, a clean cut in a mitre box, and a match to existing skirting after a French-window repair. Those same nine texts are on the 115 cm ASIN, so this is one sample, not two. One reviewer calls the short length way overpriced, and another says delivery took a while. The specification shape says Round, which does not match the bullnose title, and the 0.25 mm line is the gel-coat primer rather than the 14.5 mm depth. There is no wet-area claim, and the listing asks for a light sand before the final coat.

Pros

  • White primed pine that the UK notes cut with a mitre box
  • Profile stated as 14.5 × 94 mm bullnose
  • About £10.99 for a 60 cm repair length
  • Nine UK reviews in a shared 4.4 from 30

Cons

  • The 30 reviews are the same texts as on the 115 cm ASIN
  • One reviewer calls it way overpriced for the length
  • The shape line says Round against a bullnose title
  • 60 cm will not run a room

Best for: You are repairing under a metre of existing bullnose about 94 mm high, and you will paint after a light sand.

Less suitable: A full room, a bare stained finish, or a bathroom where water sits on the board.

Common questions

Can you paint this Austin Commerce board?

The listing says the white gel-coat primer is already on and that a light sand is recommended before the final coat.

Is this a full-length skirting board?

This ASIN is one 60 cm piece. The profile in the bullets is 14.5 × 94 mm bullnose.

Austin Commerce bullnose pine 115 cm

Rank 4

Austin Commerce bullnose pine 115 cm

∼£17

Our view

The Austin Commerce 115 cm board is the longer primed pine bullnose in this pair, still listed at 14.5 × 94 mm, at about £16.99. amazon.co.uk shows the same 4.4 from 30 as the 60 cm ASIN, and the review notes repeat the same nine UK reviews. Those reviews call the timber strong rather than flimsy and say it matched existing skirting. No complaint in the notes applies only to the 115 cm option. One reviewer still calls the piece way overpriced, which at about £15 a metre sits well above the merchant bands of roughly £4.48–£7.14 a metre in the 15 October 2026 Wickes snapshot. The shape line again says Round. There is no stated weight and no wet-area grade.

Pros

  • 115 cm of the same primed 14.5 × 94 mm bullnose
  • UK notes describe a mitre-box cut and a match to existing skirting
  • Fewer joins than the 60 cm length on a short repair
  • White gel-coat primer already on, with a light sand before the top coat

Cons

  • The review file is copied from the 60 cm ASIN
  • About £16.99 is a repair price, not a room price per metre
  • Shape line says Round against the bullnose title
  • No item weight and no moisture grade

Best for: You need a bit more than a metre of the same 94 mm bullnose and you already accept that the 4.4 is not a separate test of this length.

Less suitable: A hallway of several metres, or any job where you need reviews that belong to the 115 cm board alone.

Common questions

Is the 115 cm board a different review sample?

The notes repeat the same nine UK reviews and the same 4.4 from 30 as the 60 cm ASIN.

What thickness does the listing give?

The specification line says 14.5 mm. The bullets give the profile as 14.5 × 94 mm. The shape line says Round, which does not match the bullnose title.

TranRantic flexible PVC 8 m

Rank 5

TranRantic flexible PVC 8 m

∼£14

Our view

The TranRantic roll is 8 m of white flexible PVC, L-shaped at about 5 cm up the wall and 2 cm along the floor, at about £13.99. That is about £1.75 a metre, which is why this comparison marks it as the best value among these covers. amazon.co.uk shows 4.2 from 45 reviews. In the UK notes, people cut it with scissors, pressed it around curves, and covered old skirting with a crisp line, including around a uPVC window after mould had been cleaned. The same notes say the fold splits easily, and one UK reviewer found the adhesive too weak and expected to add more. The unit-count field says 1.0 square metre, which does not match an 8 m length. The moisture line is a bullet, not an EN class, and painting is not stated.

Pros

  • 8 m for about £13.99, about £1.75 a metre
  • 4.2 from 45 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • UK notes of a scissor cut, curves, and a cover over old skirting
  • L-shaped 5 cm by 2 cm profile stated in the bullets

Cons

  • The fold splits easily in the UK notes
  • One UK reviewer found the adhesive too weak
  • Unit count of 1.0 square metre conflicts with an 8 m roll
  • Painting is not stated, and the moisture line is not a standard

Best for: You want the longest cover in this set for the money, over sound old skirting, and you will cut corners rather than crease the fold.

Less suitable: A new 18 mm timber profile, a painted finish, or a wall where the adhesive has already failed once.

Common questions

Does the TranRantic roll need nails?

Will it cover old skirting?

UK reviews say it covered old skirting and curved edges. One UK review says the adhesive was not strong enough.

SDLDEER vinyl skirting 10 cm × 6 m, black

Rank 6

SDLDEER vinyl skirting 10 cm × 6 m, black

∼£19

Our view

The SDLDEER cover is the black vinyl roll in this set, titled 10 cm by 6 m, at about £18.99 and 1.77 kg. amazon.co.uk shows 4.2 from 31 reviews, with nine texts in the notes. UK notes say it was easy to fit, that the adhesive was strong for several people, and that it covered missing skirting, including one bathroom. One hallway review calls the vinyl thick enough for boots and a vacuum. Another says it is thinner than the pictures and shows waves in a wall that is not flat, and one parcel arrived with black scuffs. Taking it up damaged the laminate in one UK review, which sits next to bullets that claim a strong adhesive. The thickness line says 10 cm, which matches the stated width rather than a board thickness. Waterproof, oil-proof, and scratch-resistant are bullets with no standard.

Pros

  • Black in the title, 10 cm by 6 m, at about £18.99
  • 4.2 from 31 reviews
  • UK notes of an easy fit and a cover over missing skirting
  • One hallway review describes it as thick enough for boots and a vacuum

Cons

  • Thinner than the pictures, and it shows waves in an uneven wall
  • Arrived with black scuffs in one review
  • Removal damaged laminate in one UK review
  • The 10 cm thickness field is the width, not a measured board thickness

Best for: You want a black 10 cm cover on a flat, sound wall, and you do not plan to peel it off laminate later.

Less suitable: An uneven wall, a rental where you must lift it cleanly, or a white scheme.

VCANIVR PVC skirting 50 × 20 mm, 6 m

Rank 7

VCANIVR PVC skirting 50 × 20 mm, 6 m

∼£15

Our view

The VCANIVR PVC roll is titled 6 m and 50 × 20 mm, with two adhesive strips described as 5 cm by 2 cm, at about £14.99. amazon.co.uk shows 3.9 from 241 reviews, the second-largest file here. UK notes include a bath, a motorhome bathroom, and uneven council-house skirting, and several people call the adhesive strong and the strip easy to wipe. Others say it does not stick at all, and more than one UK reviewer reports adhesive failure on the first fit. Keeping a straight line is a repeated complaint, and some say 6 m feels short for the money. One utility review says it is obviously not a timber replacement. The specification line of 50 × 30 × 100 mm conflicts with a 6 m title. Painting is not stated.

Pros

  • About £14.99 for 6 m, about £2.50 a metre
  • 3.9 from 241 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • UK notes of a bath, a motorhome bathroom, and uneven skirting
  • Bullets describe a wipe-clean PVC strip with two adhesive bands

Cons

  • UK reviews both praise the adhesive and say it does not stick
  • Hard to keep in a straight line
  • Specification size 50 × 30 × 100 mm conflicts with the 6 m title
  • Not sold as paintable, and not a timber board

Best for: You want a 50 mm L-shaped PVC cover for a short damp-looking joint, and you will test a length before you commit the roll.

Less suitable: A straight run where the first stick has already let go, or a painted timber match.

Common questions

Does this VCANIVR roll stick?

Storystore vinyl skirting 10 cm × 6 m

Rank 8

Storystore vinyl skirting 10 cm × 6 m

∼£19

Our view

The Storystore trim is white vinyl peel-and-stick, with the bullets saying 10 cm wide, 2 mm thick, and 6 m long, at about £19.49 and 1.89 kg. amazon.co.uk shows 3.9 from 125 reviews. UK notes praise an easy scissor cut and covers over a scratched door, a fireplace gap, and missing skirting, and some say it looked like timber once it held. The same notes say it does not bond or comes off the wall, is hard to keep straight, and is too thin for uneven walls. One order arrived black though the title is white, and that buyer could not return it. Internal corners need a cut and sealant rather than a bend. The dimensions line says 6 m by 0.05 m, which conflicts with the 10 cm title. Goods have to match the description under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and a black parcel against a white title is the conflict that review describes.

Pros

  • 3.9 from 125 reviews, a mid-size file
  • 6 m at 2 mm in the bullets, 1.89 kg
  • UK notes of easy cutting and a cover that looked like timber when it stuck
  • Used in bathrooms in the review notes, as a cover rather than a wet-room board

Cons

  • Adhesive failure after fitting is a repeated UK complaint
  • One white order arrived black
  • 10 cm in the title, 5 cm on the dimensions line
  • Too thin for uneven walls, and corners need a cut

Best for: You have measured a flat 10 cm band, you will cut the corners, and you will check the colour before you peel the whole roll.

Less suitable: An uneven wall, a bend-around internal corner, or a second order if the first arrived the wrong colour.

Common questions

Movbudy paintable NBR 4 in × 16.4 ft

Rank 9

Movbudy paintable NBR 4 in × 16.4 ft

∼£24

Our view

The Movbudy trim is beige high-density NBR, titled 4 inch by 16.4 ft, at about £23.99. Taking 16.4 ft as about 5 m puts it near £4.80 a metre, the dearest wide cover in this set. amazon.co.uk shows 3.9 from 73 reviews, and 27 blocks in the notes are headed United Kingdom. Those notes say it follows wonky cottage and Victorian walls where timber would not, that paint covers it, and that visitors did not notice it was not timber. One buyer returned it because it was not white, on a listing whose colour line is Beige. Another return said it was too dense for a contoured architrave. One fit under a bunk needed extra adhesive because two stripes were not enough. The bullets say waterproof and name no standard, and the package line of 27.94 × 27.94 × 9.91 cm is the parcel, not the unrolled length.

Pros

  • 27 UK review blocks, not a two-line file
  • Follows curved and uneven walls in those notes
  • Paintable in the title and in the UK reviews
  • About 100 mm of cover if the 4 inch title is the width you measured

Cons

  • About £23.99, about £4.80 a metre, dear for a large room
  • Beige, and one return was because it was not white
  • Too dense for a shaped architrave in one return
  • Waterproof is a bullet with no standard, and the parcel size is not the length

Best for: You have a wonky dry wall, you want a paintable wide cover, and you have checked that beige is the colour.

Less suitable: A white finish, a shaped architrave, or a whole-house run at this price.

JAHOMFAI vinyl skirting 10 cm × 5 m

Rank 10

JAHOMFAI vinyl skirting 10 cm × 5 m

∼£16

Our view

The JAHOMFAI roll is white PVC, 10 cm wide and 5 m long, listed at 2 mm thick and 1.89 kg, at about £15.74. amazon.co.uk shows 3.9 from 53 reviews, with 11 of the 18 blocks in the notes from the United Kingdom. Reviewers used it where timber would not match, including a worktop-to-wall gap, and one bathroom fit was still stuck. The same notes say it arrives tightly rolled and will not lie straight, and one person used a heat gun. Adhesive only in the middle left the edges curling, the bottom edge stayed wavy, and the PVC felt waxy. The listing says commercial grade and also says no warranty and no included components. Painting is an on-page question and is not answered as yes in the specification block.

Pros

  • 10 cm width on a 5 m roll, 2 mm thick on the listing
  • 3.9 from 53 reviews, with a UK bathroom fit still stuck
  • Easy to cut in the UK notes
  • About £3.15 a metre at about £15.74

Cons

  • Arrives tightly rolled and needs heat or weight to lie flat
  • Adhesive only in the middle, so edges curl
  • Bottom edge stays wavy, and the PVC felt waxy
  • No warranty on the listing, and painting is not confirmed

Best for: You are covering a 10 cm gap on a dry wall and you can weight or warm the roll before it goes on.

Less suitable: A cold fit where the roll must lie flat at once, or a gloss paint job the listing does not confirm.

Gaahing paintable NBR trim 3 m

Rank 11

Gaahing paintable NBR trim 3 m

∼£18

Our view

The Gaahing trim is a beige NBR peel-and-stick strip, 3 m by 98 mm, at about £17.90, and it is the top pick in this set because the review file is the largest by a wide margin. amazon.co.uk shows 3.8 from 843 reviews, and the notes are drawn from the first 50 review blocks, with the UK points kept separate. Reviewers cut it, bend it at corners, and paint it so that old skirting and short gaps look tidier. The same UK notes say the foam is soft, dents under light finger pressure, and creases stay. The listing image looked like plastic skirting to people who then received foam. Adhesive was weak for some, including one fit that added spray adhesive, and a backing film would not peel for others. A specification line says waterproof, and one UK review says it is not suitable for a wet garage.

Pros

  • 3.8 from 843 reviews, the largest file in this comparison
  • 98 mm height on a 3 m paintable NBR strip
  • UK notes of paint over old skirting, a bay, and short gaps
  • Bends at corners without a caulking gun, as the bullets and reviews describe

Cons

  • Soft foam that dents with finger pressure and keeps creases
  • Adhesive too weak for some fits, including one that added spray adhesive
  • About £6 a metre, so a large room gets expensive
  • Waterproof on the specification line, rejected for a wet garage in one UK review

Best for: You are covering a short, dry, uneven run and you will paint the beige foam, knowing it will dent.

Less suitable: A hallway that takes boots, a wet garage, or any job that needs a hard timber profile.

dabin007 EVA skirting cover 3 m

Rank 12

dabin007 EVA skirting cover 3 m

∼£10

Our view

The dabin007 cover is a white EVA strip listed at 3 m by 1 cm by 5 cm and 200 g, at about £9.66. The listing has no customer-review line and no review text, so there is no UK account of whether the adhesive held or the foam dented. The bullets say it takes water-based paint by brush or spray, sticks without extra glue, and can be wiped with a damp cloth. They also name kitchens, bathrooms, and rentals, and they say water- and stain-resistant, with no standard attached. The same bullets sell it for picture-frame edges and mirror trim, which is a different job from a hallway board. At about £3.22 a metre the price is low, and the missing reviews are why the score sits at the bottom of this set.

Pros

  • About £9.66 for a stated 3 m length
  • Dimensions agree at 3 × 0.01 × 0.05 m and 200 g
  • Bullets name water-based paint, brush or spray
  • Self-adhesive backing claimed, with no tools in the listing

Cons

  • No star rating and no review text on the listing
  • Only 5 cm high on the dimension line
  • Bathroom and water-resistant lines have no standard
  • Also sold as picture-frame and mirror trim

Best for: You want a short white EVA cover to try on a dry, smooth edge, and you accept that nobody in these notes has reported the result.

Less suitable: Any room where you need review evidence, a board taller than 5 cm, or a wet-room finish.

How we compared

Twelve amazon.co.uk skirting listings were scored on 19 October 2026 from the listing facts and the UK review notes. There is no fitting test and no laboratory score. The highest score is the top pick. The best value is the long PVC cover at about £1.75 a metre. A 5.0 from two ratings is not a better board than 3.8 from 843. The two Austin lengths share one review sample, so the longer board is not scored as a second set of 30 ratings.

1

Amazon stars

35%

Stars are (Amazon stars ÷ 5) × 35, rounded half up, with a maximum of 35. A listing with no star line scores 0. The star line is the amazon.co.uk figure. It is not the editorial score.

2

Review volume

25%

500 or more ratings score 22, 100–499 score 16, 20–99 score 8, 1–19 score 2, and none scores 0, up to 25. The second Austin ASIN shares the same nine UK texts, so its volume is scored as 1–19.

3

Listing consistency

20%

Material, length and height that agree score 16, up to 20. A shape, unit count or parcel size that fights the title is marked down. A dimension line that contradicts the stated length or height is marked down further.

4

UK review fit

10%

UK notes of a finished job and a repeated fault score 7, up to 10. A short mixed file scores less. Adhesive failure or a wrong colour as a main theme scores 5. Non-UK review text is not scored as UK opinion.

5

Price per metre

10%

Cover price per stated metre, as a rule of thumb: £2 or under scores 9, £2.01–£3 scores 8, £3.01–£4.50 scores 6, and above £4.50 scores 4, up to 10. Movbudy’s 16.4 ft is taken as about 5 m. Rigid pine is scored as a repair length.

Skirting board buying guide

This guide follows the twelve amazon.co.uk listings kept on 19 October 2026 and the public UK sources named below. It does not add a laboratory score, a waterproof grade the pages do not print, or a merchant price as if it were one of these shelf prices. Separate a rigid board from a peel-and-stick cover before you compare price per metre.

What is a skirting board?

Skirting board is the trim where the wall meets the floor. It covers the plaster edge, takes knocks from a vacuum and from shoes, and it hides the expansion gap on a floating floor. On amazon.co.uk the same word covers two purchases. A rigid MDF or pine board is saw-cut and fixed with grab adhesive plus nails or screws. A peel-and-stick cover is PVC, vinyl, EVA or foam, about 20–100 mm high and 3–8 m long, either L-shaped or flat.

Best for

  • A short repair that matches a 94 mm bullnose already in the house
  • A peel-off cover over sound old skirting in a rental

Not ideal for

  • A full room bought as one 60 cm pine length
  • A wet room, blown plaster, or a new 230 V circuit tucked behind the board

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

    Buying the wrong height

Supplier tables disagree. SkirtingBoards.com stocks MDF from 44 mm to 219 mm, and CE Skirting’s rule of thumb puts 94–119 mm on modern replacements. Measure the house. A 20 mm cover will not hide a 94 mm board, and a 60 cm pine length will not run a room.

  2. 2

Fitting the board in the wrong order

Fit skirting before carpet. Fit it after laminate, engineered wood or LVT, and fix it to the wall only. Quick-Step specifies an 8–10 mm expansion gap. Caulk on that gap, or a pin through the floor, locks a floating floor. If the old board stays, use a scotia.

  3. 3

Reading a waterproof bullet as a wet-room grade

MR MDF is Use Class 2. Skirting 4 U says moisture resistant is not waterproof. Foam in this set dents, and one UK review rejects the Gaahing trim for a wet garage. A peel-and-stick title is not 18 mm timber. The two Austin lengths share one review sample.

What to weigh up

Height, profile and material

High

The first check is the job, then the match. A full-room replacement, a short repair and a peel-off cover are different purchases. A 60 cm pine length will not run 14 m, and a foam roll is not 18 mm timber. Measure height, thickness and the profile from the side: torus, ogee, bullnose or chamfer. Supplier tables disagree. SkirtingBoards.com stocks MDF from 44 mm to 219 mm. CE Skirting’s rule of thumb puts 94–119 mm on modern replacements and 144–169 mm as the all-round band.

Floor order, length and price per metre

High

The second check is when the board goes on, and what a metre costs. Fit skirting before carpet. Fit it after laminate, engineered wood or LVT, and fix it to the wall only. Quick-Step specifies an 8–10 mm expansion gap. If the old board stays, use a scotia, not a pin through the floor. Leave the gap free of caulk. Stretching PVC around a corner is a known way to split a fold. Internal corners on a rigid board are cut to the room.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Matching timber after a door or window

Measure the board already in the house before you buy a short length. The Austin Commerce 115 cm primed pine states a 14.5 × 94 mm bullnose at about £16.99. The 4.4 from 30 is the same sample as the 60 cm ASIN. It is a repair length, not a room pack, and the listing asks for a light sand before the top coat.

A cover you can peel off in a rental

A cover can hide scuffs when you cannot remove the board, and lifting it can take paint or flooring with it. The TranRantic flexible PVC is 8 m at about £13.99. UK notes include a cover over old skirting, and a fold that splits. It is not an 18 mm timber profile.

A humid kitchen, not a wet room

MR MDF to BS EN 622-5 is the moisture grade in the UK sources, Use Class 2, and it is not in this amazon.co.uk set. A soft tape is a stopgap. The VCANIVR 50 × 20 mm roll has UK notes of a bath and a motorhome bathroom, and other UK notes say the adhesive does not stick. Test a length before you commit the roll.

Common questions about skirting boards

Which skirting board is the top pick in 2026?
The top pick in this set is the Gaahing paintable NBR trim, about £17.90 for 3 m by 98 mm. amazon.co.uk shows 3.8 from 843 reviews. UK notes say it takes paint and bends, and that the foam dents under a finger. That is about £6 a metre. The waterproof line is not a wet-room grade. One UK review rejects a wet garage. A 5.0 from two ratings does not outrank this sample.
How much does skirting board cost?
On these amazon.co.uk listings, entry covers run from about £8.99 to about £13.99. Mid covers are about £14.99 to about £18.99. Movbudy is about £23.99. Short primed pine is about £10.99 for 60 cm and about £16.99 for 115 cm, a repair price rather than a room price. A BuildWiz snapshot of Wickes on 15 October 2026 puts merchant full lengths at about £4.48–£7.14 a metre.
What should you check before you buy skirting board?
Decide the job first: a full-room replacement, a short repair, or a cover you can peel off. Then match height, thickness and profile to the board already in the house. Supplier tables disagree, so measure. Primed MDF suits a painted dry room. MR MDF to BS EN 622-5 is for a humid kitchen or bathroom, and it is Use Class 2, not a wet room. On a cover, judge the width and whether UK reviewers say the adhesive held.
Is peel-and-stick the same as timber skirting?
A peel-and-stick PVC, vinyl, EVA or foam cover is a strip you press over a sound edge. The rolls here are about 20–100 mm high and 3–8 m long. Rigid boards are saw-cut and fixed with grab adhesive plus nails or screws. Foam sold as paintable still dents. A title that says skirting does not turn a soft roll into 18 mm timber. Compare height and fixing before you treat a roll price as a merchant board.
Can these skirting products go in a bathroom?
MR MDF to BS EN 622-5 is the moisture-resistant grade in the UK sources. It is Use Class 2, not a wet room, and that grade is not on the pine or foam here. Skirting 4 U says moisture resistant is not waterproof. A soft tape is a stopgap where water sits. Fix board to dry plaster, and seal cut ends on MR MDF. A waterproof bullet on foam is not a wet-room finish.
Is the space behind skirting a safe zone for cables?
The strip behind ordinary skirting is not a safe zone for concealed 230 V cable. SELECT sets that out against BS 7671 Regulation 522.6.204. A rebate is not earthed trunking. Tucking a cable behind the board does not make the circuit compliant. Call a qualified electrician for new circuits. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 still applies when colour or stiffness does not match the description on the listing you bought.
When should you fit skirting, and when should you call a fitter?
Fit skirting before carpet. Fit it after laminate, engineered wood, LVT or tiles, and fix it to the wall only. Quick-Step specifies an 8–10 mm expansion gap. If the old board stays, use a scotia and leave the gap free of caulk. Call a professional for new circuits, a wet room, blown plaster, and period profiles including stairs. If the floor is still undecided, the floor tiles comparison is a separate set of listings.
Do the two Austin Commerce lengths have separate reviews?
Both the 60 cm and the 115 cm primed pine bullnose show 4.4 from 30, and the review texts are the same sample. The 115 cm score is lower because that shared block is not a second test of the longer board. One reviewer calls the short length way overpriced. The shape line says Round against a bullnose title. Treat them as one repair option in two lengths, at about £10.99 and about £16.99.

Our verdict

In this set of twelve amazon.co.uk listings, the top pick is the Gaahing paintable NBR trim at about £17.90 for 3 m by 98 mm, with 3.8 from 843 reviews. UK notes say it takes paint and bends, and that the foam dents under a finger. The waterproof line is not a wet-room grade. The best value is the TranRantic flexible PVC, 8 m at about £13.99, about £1.75 a metre, with 4.2 from 45 reviews. UK notes include a cover over old skirting and a fold that splits. The two Austin pine lengths share one 4.4 from 30, and they are repair prices, not a room run.
