Willow fence comparison 2026

The best willow fences, compared.

Top pick: Wadan willow screening roll 1.5 m x 4 m Best value: Wadan willow screening roll 1.5 m x 4 m – Lowest shelf price among listings that score at least 60, at £46.99, if the length that arrives matches the job. Updated October 2026.

A willow fence on amazon.co.uk is usually a roll of willow canes bound with wire, which you tie to a fence, railing or frame you already have. People buy one to hide bins, cover a tired panel, or screen a deck, balcony or seat. A smaller group wants a low woven willow border for a bed. Gaps in the canes slow a view and a breeze. The roll is not a solid wall, a child gate or a security fence, and it does not stiffen rotten posts. You separate them by cane thickness, broken sticks, broken binding wire, and whether the title height matches the specification. Height, support and arrival checks are set out in the [willow fence buying guide](/hub/fencing-and-wire/willow-fence/sub/willow-fence-buying-guide). Four products get mixed up in the same search.

The best willow fences in detail

Wadan willow screening roll 1.5 m x 4 m

Rank 1

Wadan willow screening roll 1.5 m x 4 m

∼£47

Our view

The Wadan roll is listed at £46.99 as a 1.5 m by 4 m willow screen you tie to a wall or fence you already have. Across a shared amazon.co.uk pool of 94 reviews at 4.7, buyers describe balcony cover, a hole cut for a drain, and shortening the roll by freeing the wire and tying the cut ends. Several like the binding wire, and one temporary run on tree stakes and cable ties stood up to wind in that garden. The same texts keep coming back to broken pieces and gaps along the bottom, and to cover that does not hide a view from close up. The title says 1.5 m by 4 m, the specification says 3 m by 1 m, and the unit count prints 29.99 square metres, so measure the roll before you plan a run. One review in that shared pool describes a plastic screen, which is not evidence about this willow. Assembly is required, fixings are not listed in the box, and those 94 reviews are the same bodies as the £59.99 Wadan page. At £46.99, among the rolls here with a large review count, it is the best value if the length that arrives matches the job.

Pros

  • £46.99, with 4.7 from 94 reviews in a pool shared with the taller Wadan title
  • Buyers cut the length by freeing the wire and reuse it to tie the ends
  • Used for balcony cover and a temporary run that held in wind when tied to stakes
  • Seller states heat-treated willow and galvanised steel wire

Cons

  • Title 1.5 m by 4 m, specification 3 m by 1 m, unit count 29.99 square metres
  • Broken pieces and gaps along the bottom in the shared reviews
  • The review bodies are the same file as B0C3MX5NWR
  • Not self-supporting, and fixings are not listed as included

Best for: An existing fence, railing or bin store where you can tie the roll on and check the length on arrival.

Less suitable: A run that must be exactly 1.5 m by 4 m with no offcut, or a hurdle that stands on its own posts.

Common questions

What is this Wadan roll made from?

The listing material line says willow wood. The bullets say the canes are held with galvanised steel wire.

Do the title and the specification agree on size?

No. The title says 1.5 m x 4 m. The item-dimensions line says 3 m long by 1 m wide.

Is assembly required?

The listing says yes. It does not say that fixings are in the box.

Wadan willow screening roll 1.8 m x 4 m

Rank 2

Wadan willow screening roll 1.8 m x 4 m

∼£60

Our view

This page titles a taller Wadan roll, 1.8 m by 4 m, at £59.99, for covering an existing wall or fence. The captured listing uses the same bestsellers rank and the same review bodies as the £46.99 page, so the 4.7 from 94 is one pool, not a second set of buyers. Those reviews mention wire buyers preferred, cutting to length, balcony privacy, and a temporary fence on tree-support poles and cable ties that held in strong wind in that garden. They also report broken willow and gaps along the bottom, and screening that does not hide a view from close up. The specification still says 3 m long by 1 m wide, which matches neither 1.8 m nor 4 m, and the unit count is 29.99 square metres. Included components are listed as willow fence, assembly is required, and the file does not show an instruction sheet. You pay £13 more than the 1.5 m title without a separate review history or a size the specification confirms.

Pros

  • Title states 1.8 m by 4 m if the delivered roll matches the title
  • Shared reviews cite thicker-feeling wire and a screen that held when tied off in strong wind
  • Seller states heat-treated willow and galvanised binding wire
  • Can be cut to length, on the same review notes as the other Wadan page

Cons

  • £59.99 for the same captured rank and review text as the £46.99 ASIN
  • Specification says 3 m by 1 m against a 1.8 m by 4 m title
  • Broken bottom canes and only partial cover in that shared pool
  • Not self-supporting, and no instruction sheet is shown in the included components

Best for: A taller cover only after you confirm 1.8 m on the roll in front of you and you already have a fence or poles to fix it to.

Less suitable: Anyone who wants a separate review history, a specification that matches the title, or a lower price for the same captured listing.

Common questions

What is this Wadan roll made from?

The listing material line says willow wood. The bullets say the canes are held with galvanised steel wire.

Do the title and the specification agree on size?

No. The title says 1.8 m x 4 m. The item-dimensions line says 3 m long by 1 m wide.

Does the listing include installation instructions?

The page asks that question. The saved listing has no instruction text, and it does not say that fixings are included.

Prime Plus willow screening roll 1.5 m x 4 m

Rank 3

Prime Plus willow screening roll 1.5 m x 4 m

∼£45

Our view

Prime Plus is the lowest shelf price here at £44.99, and the title states a 1.5 m by 4 m roll of natural willow cane. The seller says it is weatherproof and that you can cut it, then fix it with galvanised wire, cable ties, screws or nails that are not in the box. The headline is 4.6 from 15 reviews, but the file holds two texts, and those two bodies are the same as on the £74.99 2 m page. One describes a substantial roll, a pleasing finish, and a two-person job, and that reviewer gives the size as 2 m by 4 m. The other says the willow is thin and breaks very easily. Assembly is marked no, yet you still have to attach it. With two texts and a size in the detailed review that is not the 1.5 m title, the 4.6 is not a settled picture of cane thickness or height. Country of origin is printed as China.

Pros

  • Lowest shelf price in this set at £44.99
  • One of the two reviews reports good condition on delivery and a pleasing finish
  • The listing states that fixings are not included
  • Seller bullets say the roll can be cut

Cons

  • Only two review texts behind a 4.6 from 15, shared with B0D1W16GPB
  • Those texts disagree: a substantial roll versus thin willow that snaps
  • The detailed review gives 2 m by 4 m, not the 1.5 m title
  • Assembly is marked no, but wire, ties, screws or nails are still required

Best for: A short bin or boundary screen when you already own fixings and you can check height and cane thickness on the day it arrives.

Less suitable: A privacy run that depends on a confirmed 1.5 m height and cane that will not snap, or a first willow order with nothing to tie it with.

Common questions

Are fixings included?

No. The bullets say galvanised wire, cable ties, screws or nails are not included.

What size does the title state?

Does the seller say it is weatherproof?

Yes. That is seller wording on the bullets, not a test result.

Prime Plus willow screening roll 2 m x 4 m

Rank 4

Prime Plus willow screening roll 2 m x 4 m

∼£75

Our view

Prime Plus titles a 2 m by 4 m roll of natural willow cane at £74.99, and the seller calls it weatherproof. The bullets say you fix it with galvanised wire, cable ties, screws or nails, and that those are not included. The headline is 4.6 from 15, the same Garden rank as the £44.99 page, and the two review bodies match that file. One of them describes a fit at 2 m by 4 m and says two people should handle the weight. The other says thin-gauge willow breaks easily. There is no separate dimension line, assembly is marked no, and country of origin is China. You pay £30 more than the 1.5 m Prime Plus title for a size one shared review mentions, not for a separate sample of buyers.

Pros

  • Title states 2 m by 4 m, and one shared review describes a fit at that size
  • That review says two people should handle the roll
  • The listing states that fixings are not included
  • Seller bullets say natural willow cane that you can cut

Cons

  • £74.99 for the same two review texts and the same rank as the £44.99 ASIN
  • The other text says thin-gauge willow breaks very easily
  • No dimension line to confirm 2 m by 4 m
  • Assembly is marked no, but wire, ties, screws or nails are still required

Best for: A 2 m cover only after you confirm that height on the roll and you already have two people and your own fixings.

Less suitable: Anyone who wants a review sample written about this ASIN alone, or a 2 m roll with a stated dimension line.

Abaseen willow screening roll 1.5 m x 4 m

Rank 5

Abaseen willow screening roll 1.5 m x 4 m

∼£50

Our view

The Abaseen willow mat is £49.99, and both the title and the specification describe 1.5 m by 4 m, written as 150 cm by 400 cm. amazon.co.uk shows 4.5 from 125 reviews, the largest count in this set, and the texts belong to this listing rather than a twin page. Buyers describe a wheelie-bin screen trimmed with secateurs, a gate backing that held better than bamboo, and a pond-filter cover used doubled up. Some call the canes thicker than flimsy twig rolls. The same file includes a complaint that the willow was thin and already broken, and a buyer who expected the bin screen to fall apart within a year. One review is about bamboo, and another describes trimming 3 m by 1 m rolls, so check the length that arrives even though the two size lines agree. The seller says the panels can be removed without damage, assembly is required, and this is a covering you tie on, not a hurdle on its own posts. Where the size lines agree and the reviews are this product’s, it is the top pick in this set.

Pros

  • Title and specification both describe 1.5 m by 4 m
  • 4.5 from 125 reviews, recorded for this ASIN rather than copied from a twin
  • Used on a wheelie-bin store, a gate, and doubled over a pond filter
  • Some reviewers find the canes thicker than flimsy twig rolls
  • Seller says it can be removed without damage

Cons

  • Some deliveries are thin or already broken, and one owner expected breakup within a year
  • Trimming a bin screen to width with secateurs was part of the job
  • One review is about bamboo, and another describes trimming 3 m by 1 m rolls
  • No stated weight; a covering you tie on, not a freestanding hurdle

Best for: A porch, patio railing, gate or shared fence where you want a 1.5 m by 4 m willow cover you can tie on and take off.

Less suitable: A freestanding boundary on its own posts, or a buyer who needs every cane thick and a screen reviewers agree will last past a year.

Common questions

Do the title and the specification agree?

Yes. The title says 1.5 m x 4 m, and the dimension line says 150 cm by 400 cm.

Can it be taken down?

The seller says the panels can be removed without causing damage. The listing still says assembly is required.

Abaseen willow screening roll 2 m x 4 m

Rank 6

Abaseen willow screening roll 2 m x 4 m

∼£80

Our view

Abaseen’s taller roll is listed at £79.99 with a title size of 2 m by 4 m, and the seller says the willow is heat-treated and bound with galvanised steel wire. amazon.co.uk shows 4.4 from 56 reviews. A buyer who had used another willow fence called this one shabby, with many broken sticks, some broken wire, and dearer. Another said the photo looked solid and the roll was see-through, but sturdy, and another bought wire separately to fix it to a wall. One comment treats it as a short-term cover instead of replacing a rotten fence. Two texts on the page are not about this roll: one is a plant, and one is a storage case. There is no item-dimensions line, the unit count prints 40.99 metre, and one review says they bought the 1.8 m height, so do not assume 2 m until you unroll it. Assembly is required, and £79.99 is the highest price in this set.

Pros

  • Title states 2 m by 4 m if that is the roll that arrives
  • Seller states heat-treated willow and galvanised steel wire
  • One reviewer found it sturdy even though the photo looked more solid than the gaps
  • 4.4 from 56 reviews, a separate sample from the 1.5 m Abaseen page

Cons

  • Called shabby, with many broken sticks and some broken wire, and dearer than another willow fence
  • No dimension line; unit count 40.99 metre; one review cites a 1.8 m height
  • Two reviews describe a plant and a storage case, not this roll
  • Wire was bought separately in one account, and the price is £79.99

Best for: A short-term cover on a sound wall when you have measured a 2 m need and you can reject a roll with broken sticks on arrival.

Less suitable: Anyone who needs the photo’s solid look, a specification that confirms 2 m, or a replacement for a rotten fence.

Relaxdays willow border, set of 5

Rank 7

Relaxdays willow border, set of 5

∼£49

Our view

Relaxdays is a set of five woven willow borders at £48.90, sold as push-in edging rather than a screening roll. The title says 20 cm by 100 cm, a bullet says about 40 cm by 100 cm with a visible height of about 20 cm, and the dimension line says 1 by 100 by 40 cm at 2.5 kg. amazon.co.uk shows 4.0 from 14 reviews. Of the eight texts in the file, one is from the United Kingdom: it calls the panels gorgeous and delicate and worries about a lawnmower. A Dutch review says the panels are 20 by 100 cm, not 40 by 100 cm. Most of the other texts are not UK reviews. The listing says you push the weave into the ground and does not name separate fixings. At this height it marks a bed edge, and it does not hide bins or a neighbour.

Pros

  • Set of five push-in willow borders at £48.90, 2.5 kg
  • The listing says how they go into the ground, without a separate fixing kit
  • The UK review in the file likes the look for a bed edge
  • A different job from the screening rolls, so the height is not a failed 1.5 m screen

Cons

  • Title 20 cm by 100 cm, bullet about 40 cm by 100 cm, dimension line 1 by 100 by 40 cm
  • 4.0 from 14 reviews, and only one of eight texts is from the United Kingdom
  • The UK review calls them delicate and worries about a lawnmower
  • Visible height around 20 cm does not screen bins, a seat or a boundary

Best for: A bed or lawn edge where a visible height of about 20 cm is enough and you can keep a mower off the weave.

Less suitable: Bin stores, balcony privacy, or anyone who needs the title and the bullet to name one height.

How we compared

Seven amazon.co.uk listings are on this page, from a snapshot on 15 October 2026. The score uses the star line, the review count, the listing (size, role and material), a read of the review sample, and the shelf price. Points come off where review bodies are shared with another ASIN, where the dearer twin uses that same file, or where the recorded reviews describe broken or snapped cane. This is not a laboratory test of cane, wire or wind load.

1

Amazon star rating

40%

Nearest integer of the amazon.co.uk stars divided by 5, then multiplied by 40. The star line is not a lifespan test.

2

Review count

15%

Up to 15 points from the listing’s review count. 100 or more scores higher than a file under 20. Shared text on two ASINs is still one pool.

3

Listing detail

25%

Up to 25 points for size, role and material. A title that matches the specification scores higher than a size conflict. Seller wording on heat treatment is not a lab result.

4

Review sample

Willow fence buying guide

Most people on this page want a roll they can tie to a sound fence over a weekend. Balcony and deck users have a second job: measure the height, and get consent if they are not the freeholder. That consent is not the same thing as the planning rule. Gardeners who only need a bed edge are looking at a border around 20 cm, not a 1.5 m screen. Shelf prices in the kept listings run from £44.99 to £79.99, and a taller title costs more. Thin cane that snaps is not the bargain.

What is a willow fence?

A willow fence on amazon.co.uk is usually a roll of willow canes bound with wire. You tie it to a fence, railing or frame you already have. People use it to hide bins, cover a tired panel, or screen a deck, balcony or seat. A smaller group wants a low woven border for a bed. The canes leave gaps, so the roll slows a view and a breeze. It is not a solid wall, a child gate or a security fence, and a roll at this price is not a close-boarded fence. Four products get mixed up in the same search.

Best for

  • Owners of a sound but tired panel who can tie a roll on over a weekend
  • Gardeners who only need a low bed edge of about 20 cm

Not ideal for

  • A rotten fence that needs new posts or a hurdle
  • Anyone who needs a solid wall, a child gate or a security fence

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

Tying a roll to a rotten fence

A screening roll does not stiffen rotten posts. If the fence has failed, replace it or use a hurdle on new posts. A short-term cover on a sound wall is a different job from a new boundary.

  2. 2

Trusting a title that fights the size line

Both Wadan pages title a long roll and print a specification of 3 m by 1 m, with a unit count of 29.99 square metres. Count the shared 94 reviews once. The Prime Plus 4.6 from 15 is one pool across two ASINs, not two samples.

  3. 3

    Expecting a solid wall

Gaps mean the roll slows a view and a breeze. It is not child-safe, pet-proof or burglar-proof. Leave the bottom out of wet soil. No fire rating is stated for these rolls.

What to weigh up

Height, price and listing honesty

High

Choose height before brand. About 1 m to 1.2 m covers bins and low clutter. About 1.5 m suits a seated area. 1.8 m to 2 m is for standing privacy only where that height is lawful. In this set, 1.5 m by 4 m titles are £44.99, £46.99 and £49.99. The 1.8 m Wadan title is £59.99. The 2 m titles are £74.99 and £79.99. A taller roll costs more, and thin snapped cane is not a bargain. Prefer a title that agrees with the dimension field. Only the Abaseen 1.5 m page has both lines at 1.5 m by 4 m.

Support, fixings and what a roll is not

High

A roll does not stiffen rotten posts. If the fence has failed, replace it or use a hurdle on new posts. Several listings say galvanised wire, cable ties, screws or nails are not in the box. Check broken canes and broken binding wire on arrival. Assembly marked no on the Prime Plus pages still means you attach the roll yourself. Seller wording on heat treatment or weatherproof cane is not a lab result, and no kept listing states a BS 1722 part or a fire rating.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Sound panel, weekend cover

You have a fence or gate that is still sound, and you want a 1.5 m by 4 m willow cover you can tie on and take off. The Abaseen roll is the one where the title and the specification both describe that size, with 4.5 from 125 reviews on this listing.

Lower price, then check the length

You can tie a roll to a railing, bin store or existing fence, and you will measure it on arrival. The Wadan 1.5 m title is about £46.99, with 4.7 from 94 reviews shared with the taller Wadan page. The specification still says 3 m by 1 m.

Bed edge, not a screen

You want a low woven border for a bed or lawn, with a visible height around 20 cm. The Relaxdays set of five is push-in edging at about £48.90. It does not hide bins or a neighbour, and the title and a bullet do not name one height.

Common questions about willow fences

Which willow fence is the top pick in this set?
The Abaseen willow screening roll, 1.5 m by 4 m, at about £49.99, is the top pick. It has the highest score because the title and the specification both describe that size, and amazon.co.uk shows 4.5 from 125 reviews recorded for this listing rather than copied from a twin page. It is a cover you tie on, not a freestanding hurdle. Some buyers still report thin or already broken cane.
What does a willow fence cost on amazon.co.uk?
In this 15 October 2026 snapshot, 1.5 m by 4 m rolls are £44.99, £46.99 and £49.99. The 1.8 m Wadan title is £59.99, and the 2 m titles are £74.99 and £79.99. Five low borders are £48.90. A rule of thumb from the title sizes is about £7.50 to £8.30 per square metre at 1.5 m by 4 m. Wadan’s specification says 3 m by 1 m, so that sum holds only if the title size arrives.
What should you check before you buy a willow fence?
Choose the height before the brand. About 1 m to 1.2 m suits bins and low clutter, about 1.5 m a seated area, and 1.8 m to 2 m standing privacy only where that height is lawful. Fix a roll only to a sound fence. On arrival, look for broken canes, broken wire, and whether fixings are in the box. Prefer a title that matches the dimension line, and treat identical review text on two ASINs as one pool.
Do you need planning permission for a willow screen?
In England, a new enclosure is not permitted development above 1 m next to a highway used by vehicles, or above 2 m elsewhere. Listed curtilage is excluded. Wales uses 1 m next to a vehicle highway or its footpath, and 2 m elsewhere. Scotland uses 1 m if it fronts a road, and 2 m otherwise. Northern Ireland uses 1 m beside a road used by vehicles, and 2 m otherwise. Leases and Article 4 directions can be tighter.
How long does a willow screening roll last?
No tested lifespan is stated for the rolls on this page, and none of the listings states a British Standard or a fire rating. A figure published for maintained willow panels is not the life of a thin amazon.co.uk roll. A woven hurdle is a different purchase, with different work. How long hurdles last is covered in how long willow hurdles last.
Is a willow roll the same as a wattle fence?
No. A willow screening roll is canes bound with wire, tied to a structure you already have. A woven hurdle can be the fence on its own posts. Living willow is rods pushed into soil so they root, which the RHS treats as planting with annual weaving, not as a roll. Wattle is a woven branch fence, compared on the wattle fence page. Reed rolls are a different product again.
Will a willow fence make the garden private?
It slows a view and a breeze. Buyers on these listings describe gaps, a see-through roll, and cover that does not hide a view from close up. It is not a solid wall, a child gate or a security fence, and it is not child-safe or burglar-proof. The RHS porosity figure for woven hurdles is for hurdles, not for these cane rolls. For bins, a seat or a balcony, measure the height and expect to see through the gaps.
Are the fixings in the box?
Not on every listing. Prime Plus states that galvanised wire, cable ties, screws or nails are not included, even where assembly is marked as not required. You still have to attach the roll. Several other pages do not say that fixings are in the box. One Abaseen review describes buying wire separately to fix a roll to a wall. Check the included-components line before you assume the box is enough for a weekend fit.

Our verdict

The Abaseen 1.5 m by 4 m roll is the top pick: the title and the specification both describe that size, and 4.5 from 125 reviews is recorded for this listing. The Wadan 1.5 m roll at about £46.99 is the best value among listings that score at least 60, if the length that arrives matches the job. Prime Plus is cheaper at about £44.99 and scores lower, with two review texts shared with its 2 m page. A roll is a cover you tie on. It is not a hurdle, a living willow fedge, or a close-boarded fence.
