Corded or cordless electric planer

Updated: 22 October 2026

You are choosing between a planer that plugs into the hallway socket and one that needs a battery you may not own yet. Corded or cordless electric planer is that power-source decision. In this amazon.co.uk set the corded tools cluster under about £45, the Ryobi ONE+ body is £97.37 without a pack, and other cordless listings only borrow a battery shape. Prices stay on the [electric planer comparison](/hub/tools/electric-planer). Peter F. used the saved listings, Ryobi's UK page, and Electrical Safety First on 21 October 2026. We did not time a pack. When a cord is the simpler tool

A corded planer runs as long as the socket does, so two or three doors do not wait on a charger. The Einhell TC-PL 750 is 750 W at £39.78, with 4.5 from 6,008 reviews. The Draper 57559 is 600 W at £37.66, with a dust bag and 4.4 from 159 reviews. The KATSU is 600 W at £34.99 with no bag listed. The Draper 57564, at 900 W and £51.80, adds a stated rebate. You need a socket near the door and a BS 1363 plug. One Draper review describes a sheared earth pin. Do not compare £97.37 with £39.78 as if both boxes would plane a door on the day they arrive. The Ryobi price does not include the cells.

Ryobi ONE+ as a bare body

The saved listing B0748KVGP8 is titled Ryobi R18PL-0, an 18 V ONE+ planer at £97.37, battery and charger excluded. It states a chip depth of 0–0.4 mm, an 82 mm width, a dust bag, and a side fence: 4.7 from 1,198 reviews. A 5 Ah pack is described as enough for door work. Bare means you are buying the tool only. Ryobi's UK page for a current RPL18-0 is a different document: £137.99 and a depth of 0–2 mm. We do not average that with the ASIN. If you need several millimetres and you only have a small ONE+ cell, the corded Einhell's listed 2 mm is the more direct spec. Who that names is on the best electric planer page.

Kits that only borrow a battery name

Four other cordless listings are not the Ryobi, and they are not the brands in their titles. The Mekturm KT-P01, at £71.99, includes two of the seller's own 21 V packs and claims up to 30 minutes. The star line is 4.2 from 10 reviews, and a UK review says the life was shorter. The blayram kit, at £89.99, says its packs are not for original Makita tools or a Makita fast charger. The star line is 5.0 from five reviews. The SWTHM body, at £53.49, names DeWalt pack codes and is not a DeWalt planer. The YWNYT body, at £54.99, names Milwaukee M18 codes and has no UK review text. Electrical Safety First says to use the proper charger, not other manufacturers' packs.

Which to buy for doors at home

Choose a corded planer if you do not already own the packs the cordless listing demands. For a few internal doors beside a socket, the Einhell's review count, or the Draper 57559 if you want a bag at a similar price, is the simpler evidence. Choose the Ryobi bare body only if ONE+ packs are already on the shelf and you accept the saved 0.4 mm maximum. Do not buy a compatible-with body as if it were a Makita, a DeWalt, or a Milwaukee planer. If the decision is millimetres per pass, or a dust bag, use the electric planer buying guide.

Common questions

Is a cordless planer enough for a few internal doors?
Yes if the pack can finish the passes and the listed depth is one you can live with. Ryobi reviewers describe internal doors on a 5 Ah ONE+ pack. The saved Ryobi listing also caps the chip at 0.4 mm, so several millimetres means many passes. Cordless is enough. It is not automatically simpler.
What does bare tool mean on the Ryobi?
The title says the battery and charger are excluded. You pay £97.37 for the planer, the side fence, the dust bag, and two blades, and you supply a Ryobi 18 V ONE+ pack. B&Q uses bare the same way. It is not a kit that planes on the day it arrives unless the packs are already yours.
Will a 2 Ah ONE+ pack finish several doors?
Do not count on it. One review in the saved Ryobi file used three 2 Ah packs on an oak bench. Another describes a 5 Ah pack as enough for door work. Small cells are the limit reviewers mention, not a pattern of dead motors in the sample we read.
Is the blayram kit a Makita planer with two batteries?
No. The brand field is blayram. The bullets say the body is compatible with Makita 18 V batteries, and that the included packs are custom: not for original Makita tools and not for a Makita fast charger. You cannot treat the two 4.0 Ah packs as spares for a Makita drill. The star line is five reviews.
Is the SWTHM body a DeWalt?
No. It names DeWalt 18 V and 20 V pack codes and sells as a bare body at £53.49. The brand field is not DeWalt. Two UK reviews are in the file, and they disagree: one motor failed on first use, and one mentions site work on fire doors. Neither comment makes it a DeWalt planer.
When is a lead the simpler buy?
When you do not already own the right packs, and the door is near a socket. The corded rows here with a real review count start around £35 to £40 for the Einhell, the Draper 57559, the KATSU, and the Hilka. You trade a cable, and a plug you should inspect, for a tool that does not stop for a charger.
Which page tells me the chip depth to look for?
The buying guide. It separates 82 mm of width from millimetres per pass, and it explains why 15.5 mm on one Draper is a rebate. This page only keeps the saved Ryobi line of 0–0.4 mm, beside Ryobi UK's different 0–2 mm page, without averaging the two.
