Best electric planer

Updated: 22 October 2026

You want one electric planer from this amazon.co.uk set for a few internal doors, and a clear reason to leave the five-review kits on the shelf. Best on this page means the stronger public evidence: saved star lines, review counts, listed chip depth, and what is actually in the box. It does not mean we planed these twelve tools side by side. The full table, with GBP prices, is the [electric planer comparison](/hub/tools/electric-planer). A qualifying purchase through those links can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. What this best is based on

Each row already has an editorial score from the amazon.co.uk star line, a review-count band, and the features the listing prints. The Einhell TC-PL 750 has the highest score, which is why the comparison marks it as the top pick. The Draper Storm Force 57559 is the best value among the remaining tools with at least 50 reviews. Those are listing scores, not a laboratory test. Bosch Professional planers sit outside this twelve. The Ryobi R18PL-0 has a higher star line, 4.7 from 1,198 against 4.5 from 6,008. It loses the top pick on the saved depth of 0–0.4 mm and the missing battery. Depth and dust checks are in the electric planer buying guide.

Einhell TC-PL 750 for occasional doors

The Einhell TC-PL 750 is the corded planer with the large UK sample: 4.5 from 6,008 reviews, listed at £39.78. The listing states 750 W, a chip depth up to 2 mm, an 82 mm width, and an aluminium sole. UK reviews talk about door bottoms and cabinet doors. Einhell's own UK page does not list a dust bag, and it shows £44.95 rather than the amazon price. Use £39.78 when you compare this set. The box is a parallel stop, a wrench, a step depth scale, and instructions, and chips leave the side. One review describes the front plate wobbling on a centre pin, and another finds it tiring after a second door.

Draper 57559 when you want the bag

The Draper Storm Force 57559 is £37.66, corded, 600 W, with 4.4 from 159 reviews. The title says a 2 mm cut and the components line says 82 mm. The box lists a dust bag, two blades, and a parallel guide. It is the best value because that bag and guide sit near the top pick's price, not because it is the cheapest tool. Reviewers call the bag poor, and one says it split by the fourth door. One buyer reports a sheared earth pin. The Hilka, at £39.31 with 4.4 from 171, misses the value pick because width and depth are not stated. If the lead is the problem, see the corded or cordless electric planer page.

Cordless picks, and the listings to skip

Buy the Ryobi if you already own 18 V ONE+ packs and you accept a listed maximum of 0.4 mm. The saved price is £97.37 with the battery excluded. A 5 Ah pack is described as enough for doors, while three 2 Ah packs went on one oak bench. Do not replace the 0.4 mm line with another Ryobi page that prints 2 mm. Leave the thin samples: blayram at five reviews, whose packs are not for original Makita tools; SWTHM at eight, and not a DeWalt tool; YWNYT at four with no UK text; YWBL-WH with no star line. Ten reviews on the Mekturm kit are not a reason to call it the best cordless planer here. Door limits are on how to plane a door with an electric planer.

Common questions

Which planer in this set has the most UK review evidence?
The Einhell TC-PL 750, at 4.5 from 6,008 amazon.co.uk reviews, saved at £39.78. The next large cordless sample is the Ryobi R18PL-0 at 4.7 from 1,198, with the battery excluded and a listed depth of 0–0.4 mm. Evidence here means that public count plus the printed spec, not a side-by-side test in our workshop.
Is the Einhell a good pick if I only have a few doors?
Yes, if a mains socket is nearby and you can cope without a dust bag in the box. Reviews in the saved file use it on door bottoms and cabinet doors. One reviewer found it tiring after a second door, and chips leave the side.
Why is the Draper 57559 the value pick and not the cheapest KATSU?
The Draper is £37.66 with 159 reviews, and the box lists a dust bag, two blades, and a parallel guide. The KATSU is cheaper at £34.99 and has 124 reviews, but no bag in the included line, a review that the cut stopped near 1 mm, and a return over blade bolts. Best value here is the kit you can use indoors, not the lowest shelf price.
Should I buy the 5.0-star cordless kit?
Not as the pick of this set. That 5.0 is five reviews on the blayram listing. The bullets say the packs in the box do not run original Makita tools and do not use a Makita fast charger. They are not the same record as 6,008 reviews on the Einhell or 1,198 on the Ryobi.
Is the Ryobi the best cordless here?
It is the cordless row with a large review count, if you already own ONE+ batteries and you can work at the listed 0–0.4 mm. It is a poor first buy if you have no packs, because £97.37 does not include them. It is also a slow way to remove several millimetres compared with a corded planer whose listing states 2 mm.
What should I skip if the review count is under ten?
Skip them for a door you need to finish. That covers the blayram kit at five reviews, the SWTHM body at eight, and the YWNYT body at four with no UK text in the file. The YWBL-WH listing has no review line. A single praise of fire doors, or a single first-use failure, is an anecdote until the count grows.
