Mini greenhouse buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You have a patio, a short bed, or a doorstep, and the amazon.co.uk titles in front of you all say the frame is sturdy. A mini greenhouse buying guide is useful here because the nine listings in our [mini greenhouse comparison](/hub/raised-beds-greenhouses-and-compost/mini-greenhouse) are film-covered frames, not glazed houses, and the word on the title does not tell you the depth. Products Compared read those listings on 16 October 2026. We did not grow plants in them and we did not run a wind test. If you buy through our links, a qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

Start with the job, not the brand

The decision is the job, then four figures: how deep it is, what a shelf is said to hold, whether a cloth weight is printed, and whether anything in the box will hold it down. Brand comes after that. The tiered rack or tunnel page is the shape choice. This page stays with the measurements. A cover over a bed and a rack of seed trays are different objects, even when both are called a mini greenhouse. The only tunnel in this set, VOUNOT B0F131MRBR, is 270 × 90 × 90 cm. It has no shelves in the extract. The other eight are racks from about 80 cm to 162 cm tall, mostly 45–70 cm deep.

Depth and a printed shelf load

Depth is the figure that decides whether it fits the path. Most shelf houses here are about 40–50 cm deep. The extra-wide DIVCHI is 105 cm wide and still 45 cm deep, so the width is the new problem, not the depth. The tunnel’s 90 cm is depth and height together in a low rectangle 270 cm long. Shelf load is the second figure, and only some listings print one. Ohuhu and the VOUNOT four-tier say 10 kg a shelf. JUNGLE STONE’s bullets say 15 kg. Bamworld prints 38 lb a shelf. The DIVCHI rows print no kilogram load. If the listing is silent, you do not invent 10 kg for it.

Cloth weight and the anchor kit

Cloth weight is the third. Both VOUNOT models print 135 g/m² polyethylene. Nothing else in the nine prints a gram figure. JUNGLE STONE’s table says low-density polyethylene and the bullets say reinforced PE. Both lines stay, and neither is a laboratory grade. The fourth figure is the anchor kit. Ground stakes appear in the bullets of the VOUNOT tunnel. JUNGLE STONE states a 10 cm skirt to bury or to weight with stone or sand. None of the nine prints a wind speed, so “heavy duty” on a feature line is not a class you can quote.

What this amazon.co.uk set actually prints

Read the conflicts in the same pass as the four figures. Four DIVCHI listings print an item weight of 200 g. A framed cover does not weigh 200 g in any ordinary sense. The figure stays because it is what the page prints, and it is not a reason to guess a real weight. The short four-tier DIVCHI, B0CB63QMC4, is titled as steel. The bullets say a PP connector, and a UK review says the tubes are plastic. JUNGLE STONE, £28.99, prints the width as 69 cm in the table and 64 cm in the bullets. The two-tier PVC DIVCHI prints the depth as 45 cm and as 40 cm. Do not average those pairs into a size you would mark on the patio. If the two lines disagree, the listing has not given you one footprint.

Common questions

Is a 4-tier house better than a 2-tier house?
Only if you have the trays and the gap. A two-tier at 80–85 cm is a doorstep for short plants. A four-tier around 158–162 cm holds more shelves and also shades the lower ones, which the RHS flags for a single crop that wants even light. The two-tier DIVCHI polyethylene house is £15.29 with no kilogram load printed. Extra tiers are not a quality score.
What footprint fits a patio path?
Most racks here are about 45–50 cm deep and under 70 cm wide, so a path that is already tight may still take one if the door can roll without blocking the step. The extra-wide DIVCHI needs 105 cm of wall. The tunnel needs 270 cm of bed. Measure the opened door, not only the frame in the photograph.
How much should a shelf hold?
Use the printed figure where you have one: 10 kg on Ohuhu and the VOUNOT four-tier, 15 kg in the JUNGLE STONE bullets, 38 lb on Bamworld. A gardening site’s 10 kg minimum is a rule of thumb, not a standard these shelves were tested against. Where no kilogram load is printed, do not borrow one from a neighbour in the table.
Do I need pegs in the box?
You need a way to hold a few kilograms of film in a gust. Only the VOUNOT tunnel states ground stakes. A skirt, a pocket, or a sentence that says “secure it” is not the same kit. If the box is silent, budget for ballast or a tie, and do not read the star rating as a wind class.
Why do some listings weigh 200 g?
That is the item-weight field on four DIVCHI pages. It is not a credible weight for the assembled frame, and this guide does not replace it with an estimate. Treat it as a listing fault to notice, then judge the house by the centimetre size and the UK comments on tears and bent shelves.
Should I buy the tunnel or the shelves?
Buy the tunnel when the job is a bed about 90 cm wide and 270 cm of length is free. Buy shelves when the job is trays, herbs, or a few pots on a depth of about half a metre. The two are in one comparison so you can see they are not substitutes, which is the point of the shape page linked above.
