Best parquet varnish in this amazon.co.uk set

Updated: 23 October 2026

You want one tin for a wood block floor, and the search results offer a winner without saying who should leave it on the shelf. Best parquet varnish, on this page, means the best fit among six saved amazon.co.uk listings, judged on whether the tin is a floor lacquer, whether the reviews are actually about floors, and what a litre costs. It is not a claim to be the best varnish in the UK, and it is not a lab wear test. Prices and star counts are the listing figures from 21 October 2026. The full table is on the [parquet varnish comparison](/hub/paints-and-varnishes/parquet-varnish). Peter F. did not coat a floor. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What best means here

The first cut is the job on the label. A parquet varnish in this set has to be a floor film: interior wood floors, parquet, or a parquet lacquer. A high star average on a door varnish would not win, and we did not keep those tins. The second cut is the review sample on amazon.co.uk. Seventy-four reviews with some floor comments outrank four stars and no sentences. Four hundred and eighteen reviews do not automatically win if a large share of the writing is skirtings and furniture. The third cut is price per litre, used for the best value badge after the top pick is set, not as a substitute for a floor label. Nobody here was slip-tested, amber-tested or worn down with a machine. Bona’s UK FAQ says Mega is the one-component lacquer for medium domestic wear and a two-component traffic lacquer is for heavy commercial wear. That is the maker’s split. It is not a head-to-head against Sadolin or Rustins, and Traffic GO in this set is the built-in-hardener tin, not Traffic HD. Crown’s trade card also lists a two-pack Sadolin PV67 for severe abrasion. PV67 is not one of these six ASINs, so it is not a hidden winner. The scores already stored put Bona Mega matt, 1 litre, first at 84, and Sadolin satin, 2.5 litres, second at 80. In sentences the first is the top pick and the second is the best value. A lower score is still a real tin with a stated limit. Litres and sheen, before a name, are on the parquet varnish buying guide.

The home-floor shortlist

Bona Mega matt in a 1 litre pack, ASIN B0733GY8F4, is the top pick for a small hall or a repair. The listing price is £30.42. The star line is 4.6 from 74 reviews. The coverage line says 8 to 10 square metres per litre, and a bullet says the lacquer is highly recommended for underfloor heating. Written reviews mostly describe easy application, a mild matt and low smell. That is as close as this set gets to a floor lacquer with a usable sample and the heating sentence on the same file. You should skip it when the room needs more than about a litre a coat. A 12 square metre hall at 10 square metres per litre and three coats is about 3.6 litres before waste, so this tin is the wrong pack size even if you like the product. Skip it too if you need a floor-only label. The recommended-use line also lists furniture and cladding. One review reported a leak in transit, and another could not fill wide gaps with sawdust and this lacquer. The saved file does not say no primer. That line belongs to Mega Evo, and copying it across would be a mistake. Bona’s Mega data sheet still talks about a primer on bare wood. Sadolin Polyurethane Floor Varnish satin, 2.5 litres, ASIN B07H9LR41W, is the best value pack if you want a domestic tin and you do not need a heating sentence. It is £44.99, about £18 a litre, at 4.6 from 418 reviews. The listing limits it to interior wood floors, excludes laminate, and states up to 15 square metres per litre. Floor comments that do appear praise a clear satin. Several people say the liquid looks white in the tin and dries clear. That is what they report, not a drying test we ran. Skip Sadolin when the reviews you are trusting are actually about doors. A large part of the written sample is joinery, so 418 is not a parquet trial. Skip it when the lid has to reseal for a second weekend: that complaint repeats, and one pack leaked. Skip it on a heated floor if you will only buy a tin whose own listing names underfloor heating. This file does not. Also check the can, because a unit-count field says 750 ml while the title says 2.5 litres. Treat that as a catalogue error until you see the tin. Coats and drying, once you have chosen, are on how to varnish parquet.

The tins to treat carefully

Rustins Polyurethane Floor Sealer satin, 1 litre, is £17.96 and the cheapest tin here. It is UK-made, model PSFS1000, and the bullets name hardwood, softwood and parquet. The average is 4.3 from 145 reviews. Some of those reviews are happy with the build on wood or cork. Several others say the floor stayed tacky for about 15 to 24 hours, or that a satin tin dried much glossier than satin. There is no coverage figure in the spec line and no underfloor-heating line. One reviewer quoted about 14 square metres per litre from the tin and said cork used far more. Buy it for a small, patient job. Do not buy it because £17.96 looks like the same product as Mega with a discount. The 5 litre Bona Mega, £119.94, about £24 a litre, names parquet and wooden floors and says there is no limited pot time. The title says silk matt and the finish field says matte, so you do not know the sheen from the file alone. Coverage and underfloor heating are absent on this ASIN even though the 1 litre Mega listing mentions heating. The average is 4.0 from 21 reviews. One floor restorer said the film scratched and looked tatty after nine months. Other saved comments are short praise. An allergy line names 5-decyne-4,7-diol, 2,4,7,9-tetramethyl. The can makes sense when you need five litres of Mega and you will read the label in the shop. It does not inherit the 1 litre tin’s score. Bona Mega Evo extra matt is £33.99 for 1 litre. Bullets claim non-yellowing, no primer, and resistance to wear, scratches and chemicals. Uses include floors, furniture and cabinets. Coverage is 200–300 square feet per litre. The star line is 4.7 from four reviews, and the saved listing has no review sentences. Four stars with no text are not a reason to rank it above Mega matt or Sadolin. Underfloor heating is not stated. Bona Traffic GO is listed as a 2K parquet lacquer, semi-matt, £206.64, with 5 litres in the title and polyurethane as the material. The saved file has one bullet that repeats the name, no coverage, no primer line, no heating line and no star rating. Weight is 5 kg while the unit-count field says 1000 g. It stays in the set because the product type is a heavy-wear parquet lacquer. It is not worth £206.64 on the strength of reviews, because the reviews are not there. If you already specify Traffic GO from Bona’s sheet, check the can size before you pay. If you wanted a reviewed home tin, go back to the 1 litre Mega or the 2.5 litre Sadolin.

Common questions

Which tin is the top pick, and why?
Bona Mega matt, 1 litre, at £30.42. The criterion is a floor lacquer that states coverage, names underfloor heating, and has a usable amazon.co.uk sample: 4.6 from 74 reviews, with comments on application, a mild matt and low smell. It is not the top pick for a whole flat. A litre is a small room, and the uses line also mentions furniture and cladding. The score is 84 out of 100 from those listing facts, not from a lab.
Which pack is the better value?
Sadolin satin, 2.5 litres, at £44.99, about £18 a litre, with 4.6 from 418 reviews and a stated interior-floor use that excludes laminate. Rustins is cheaper per tin and loses on the tacky-drying pattern. The 5 litre Mega is about £24 a litre. Call Sadolin best value only if you accept that many reviews are doors and skirtings, and that heating is not on the file.
Should I skip Rustins because of the tacky reviews?
Skip it when you need the floor walkable the next morning, or when you need the dried film to look like a mild satin. Several UK reviews describe tackiness for about 15 to 24 hours and a glossier result than the label suggested. Keep it in mind for a small cork or wood job where £17.96 and a parquet bullet matter more than speed, and you can leave the room alone.
Is Mega Evo’s 4.7 enough?
No. The average is 4.7 from four reviews, and the saved file contains no review text, so you cannot see what those people coated. The no-primer bullet and the extra matt claim are listing text, not a comparison we filmed. Mega matt and Sadolin both have larger samples. Use Evo only as a trial litre if you already accept that gap.
Is Traffic GO worth £206 with no reviews?
Not as a reviewed winner. The price is £206.64, the title says a 5 litre 2K parquet lacquer, and the saved amazon.co.uk file has no star line. Bona’s FAQ puts a traffic system on heavy commercial wear and Mega on domestic wear. Buy Traffic GO only if that product type is what you came for and you will confirm the pack, because the unit-count field conflicts with the 5 litre title.
Does a high star rating mean the reviews are about floors?
Not on Sadolin. The 4.6 from 418 is real, and a large part of the writing is doors, skirtings and furniture. Floor comments exist and they praise a clear satin, which is a smaller set than the headline number. Mega matt’s 74 reviews sit closer to floor use. A star line with no sentences, which is Mega Evo, tells you even less.
Who should not buy the 1 litre Mega?
Anyone coating more than a small room. At 8 to 10 square metres per litre, one litre is one coat of a modest patch, not three coats of a 12 square metre hall. Also skip it if you need the heating approval on a different Bona can: the 5 litre Mega file does not repeat the line. And skip it if you wanted a primer instruction, because this ASIN does not print one.
