Grafting tool comparison 2026

The best grafting tools, compared.

Top pick: Holy Feather (YCfeather00546) Best value: Yuhtech (SHEAR-KIT-BK) – Best value in this set: score 65 at about £9.99, with V, U and omega and a 10 mm ceiling. The kit film is a short starter roll, not nursery tape. Updated 22.10.2026.

A grafting tool is a hand pruner that stamps a matching V, U or omega joint into a scion and a rootstock, so you can bind them until the cambium joins. In the UK, home gardeners and allotment growers use one to put a known apple or pear onto a rootstock, or to try a few grafts without relying only on a knife. You tell a suitable tool by a printed diameter limit, named blade profiles, a lock, and a box whose film is not sold as nursery grafting tape. The Royal Horticultural Society still expects some grafts to fail when the cut or the wood is poor. Whip-and-tongue work is normally March or early April. Collect pencil-thick scion wood, about 8 mm, in December or January and keep it dormant. Match the diameters so the cambium can meet. Check the printed diameter, the named profiles and the box contents before the price. Those checks are set out in the [grafting tool buying guide](/hub/garden-tree-and-hedge-shears/grafting-tool/sub/grafting-tool-buying-guide).

What wood are you joining?

The best grafting tools in detail

Holy Feather (YCfeather00546)

Rank 1

Holy Feather (YCfeather00546)

∼£15

Our view

The Holy Feather set lists a grafting shear, a grafting knife, a bypass pruner and a safety lock at £14.99, at a stated 360 g, and it does not print a diameter or name V, U or omega. Amazon.co.uk shows 5.0 from two reviews, both written in the United Kingdom in September 2026. Those reviewers describe a lock that works, sharp aligned blades, and clean cuts on twigs without much hand pressure. They also describe three interchangeable grafting blades, a pruning blade, spare orange buffers, and a blade change that did not fuss. Neither person had finished a graft: one had only practised pruning cuts and planned to try grafting in late winter. A five-star line from two people is not a take rate, and the sales rank sits under drill bit sets rather than secateurs. It suits a buyer who wants a lock and a second cutter in the box and can check the unnamed profiles against their own wood when it arrives.

Pros

  • Safety lock, grafting knife and bypass pruner in the bullets
  • £14.99 and 360 g
  • 5.0 from two reviews, both from the United Kingdom
  • UK notes describe clean twig cuts and a blade change without fuss
  • Spare orange buffers are mentioned in a UK review

Cons

  • No printed diameter and no named V, U or omega
  • Neither UK reviewer had finished a graft
  • Five stars from two people is a very thin sample
  • The rank sits under drill bit sets, which does not describe the cut

Best for: A lock and a second pruner in one box, if you can wait to see whether the unnamed blades match your wood.

Less suitable: Anyone who needs a printed millimetre ceiling or a reported take before they order.

Common questions

Which blade shapes does Holy Feather name?

The listing does not name V, U or omega. It says interchangeable heads. Both UK reviews describe grafting blades plus a pruning blade. One says three grafting blades and spare orange buffers.

Is there a diameter limit?

No millimetre limit is printed. The weight is 360 g. The bullets mention apples, pears, citrus and ornamental shrubs without a size ceiling.

Have the UK reviewers used it to graft?

Both reviews are from the United Kingdom. They praise a working safety lock and clean pruning cuts. Neither has finished a graft yet.

NAYE (4336460087)

Rank 2

NAYE (4336460087)

∼£28

Our view

The NAYE 4336460087 carries omega, U and V blades plus a pruning blade the bullets call 1/8 inch thick, for twigs stated at 3/16 to 17/32 inch. Amazon.co.uk shows 4.4 from 1,240 reviews, but the 50 stored texts are from the United States, India and Australia, and none are from the United Kingdom. Those notes describe clean cuts on small apple wood once the blades are set, and one person reports four of seven grafts bonding. The same file calls the included film cling film rather than grafting tape, says the rubber bands do not hold a branch, and describes screws that strip because the screwdriver is too weak. A handle broke on the first day when the cutter was squeezed hard, and several writers say the joint is small, with less cambium contact than a knife graft. The 0.44 inch spec field is not the capacity. At £28 it ties the top listing score and is still not the top pick here, because the written reviews are not British gardeners.

Pros

  • Omega, U and V blades plus a pruning blade
  • Bullet range 3/16 to 17/32 inch
  • 4.4 from 1,240 reviews on the amazon.co.uk line
  • Stored notes describe clean cuts on small apple wood once the blades are set
  • Tapes, rubber bands and a zipper case are described in the stored file

Cons

  • None of the 50 stored texts is from the United Kingdom
  • Reviewers call the film cling film, and say the rubber bands do not hold a branch
  • Screws strip, blade changes are a strip-down, and one handle broke
  • The joint is described as small, with less cambium contact than a knife graft

Best for: A hobby batch of small matched twigs when you already accept non-UK review texts and will bring your own grafting tape.

Less suitable: Anyone treating the 1,240 count as British opinion, or a limb thicker than the bullet range.

Common questions

What diameter does NAYE state?

The bullets say twigs from 3/16 to 17/32 inch, about 4.8–13.5 mm as arithmetic, not a measurement. The spec field says a cutting width of 0.44 inch. Use the bullet. Do not treat 0.44 inch as the capacity.

Are the 1,240 reviews from the United Kingdom?

The amazon.co.uk line says 4.4 out of 5 from 1,240 reviews. The 50 texts stored in the saved listing are from the United States, India and Australia. None are from the United Kingdom.

What do those stored reviews say about the tape?

The title includes rolls of grafting tapes and rubber bands. Stored reviews call the film cling film or ordinary wrap, and say the rubber bands do not hold a branch. Do not call it nursery grafting tape.

LSLANSOON (LY-1406)

Rank 3

LSLANSOON (LY-1406)

∼£17

Our view

The LSLANSOON LY-1406 is a 300 g 2-in-1 pruner with omega, U and V blades, and the bullets state fruit branches from 5 mm to 12 mm. A spec field prints a cutting width of 35 mm, which is a conflict and not the capacity you should plan around. Amazon.co.uk shows 4.2 from 102 reviews. Of the 18 stored texts, four are from the United Kingdom, and one of those is only the word thank. A UK reviewer calls it handy for grafting trees, while another says it only cuts extremely thin branches and that changing blades is awkward. Stored US texts describe a cut that will not finish and tears the far side of the branch. One Mexico review reports rust after four days out of the pack. At £16.61 the bullets list three blades and do not list tape or a case, so the practical range looks thinner than the 12 mm figure.

Pros

  • Omega, U and V blades named on the listing
  • Bullet diameter 5–12 mm at £16.61
  • 4.2 from 102 reviews on amazon.co.uk
  • A UK review calls it handy for grafting trees
  • 300 g, so it is light to carry to an allotment

Cons

  • The 35 mm spec field contradicts the 5–12 mm bullet
  • A UK review says it only cuts extremely thin wood and blade changes are awkward
  • US texts describe an unfinished cut that tears the far side
  • No tape or case is listed, and one review reports rust after four days

Best for: Very thin matched wood when you already own grafting tape and you will ignore the 35 mm field.

Less suitable: Anyone who needs 35 mm to be the real capacity, or a kit with tape and a case.

Common questions

Is the cutting width 35 mm?

The spec field says 35 mm. The bullets say fruit branches from 5 mm to 12 mm. Use 5–12 mm. A UK review says it only cuts extremely thin branches.

Does the kit include tape or a case?

The bullets list the 2-in-1 tool and three replaceable blades. They do not list tape or a case. The included-components field says Blade.

How many of the reviews are from the United Kingdom?

Yuhtech (SHEAR-KIT-BK)

Rank 4

Yuhtech (SHEAR-KIT-BK)

∼£10

Our view

The Yuhtech SHEAR-KIT-BK stamps V, U and omega cuts on twigs and softwoods the listing caps at 10 mm, and it excludes dry old hardwood such as jujube and walnut. The snapshot price is £9.99, with three blades, one 3 cm tape and a spare base named in the bullets. Amazon.co.uk shows 4.1 from 34 reviews, and three of the 15 stored texts are from the United Kingdom. Those UK notes praise clean omega or V cuts on softer wood, including an omega that is quite good if you centre it. They also say the cut is short, so lining up the cambium is difficult, and that some rootstocks are too thick to finish even with a strong grip. One UK reviewer found the tape hard to bond, had no take, and planned a long splice the next year. It is the best value in this set when your wood is inside 10 mm and you treat the film as a short starter roll. French and German texts in the same file describe a full strip-down to change a blade.

Pros

  • V, U and omega, with a 10 mm ceiling that matches the spec field
  • Three blades, 3 cm tape and a spare base at £9.99
  • 4.1 from 34 reviews, with UK texts in the stored file
  • UK notes describe clean omega or V cuts on softer wood
  • Listing excludes dry old hardwood such as jujube and walnut

Cons

  • UK reviews say the cut is short and thicker rootstocks will not finish
  • Included tape is hard to bond, and one UK reviewer had no take
  • Blade changes mean stripping the head, in French and German texts
  • One France review describes a bent blade on arrival

Best for: A few soft pencil grafts inside 10 mm when you want named profiles at the lowest price in this set.

Less suitable: Dry old hardwood, rootstocks over 10 mm, and anyone who needs the kit film to act as nursery tape.

Common questions

How thick a branch does Yuhtech state?

The bullets and the cutting-width field both say 10 mm. The listing excludes dry or old hardwood such as jujube and walnut. UK reviews say thicker rootstocks will not cut through.

What comes with the £9.99 kit?

The bullets list one shear, three blades (V, omega and U, one fitted), one 3 cm wide grafting tape and one spare base. The included-components field says Side Handle.

What do the UK reviews say about the cut?

Three of the 15 stored reviews are from the United Kingdom. They praise clean omega or V cuts on soft wood. They also say the cut is short, the tape is hard to bond, and one reviewer had no take yet.

FUJIWARA (F-Graft.TLS.2_UK)

Rank 5

FUJIWARA (F-Graft.TLS.2_UK)

∼£26

Our view

The FUJIWARA F-Graft.TLS.2_UK stamps U, V and omega profiles into small fruit branches the listing puts at nearly 10 mm, and the box adds two films, plant tags, a grafting knife, a screwdriver, a wrench and clips. Amazon.co.uk shows 4.1 from 16 reviews, and all 11 stored texts are from the United Kingdom. Reviewers describe clean cuts on young shoots that do not fray the bark, a yellow lock that holds the tool closed, and a zipper case. One person changed blades with the included screwdriver; another found the first release fiddly. Hands ached on a longer session, and the knife is sharp enough that a reviewer asked for a cover because the case has no moulded slot for it. None of the 11 texts reports a finished take: the grafts that were set were still waiting. At £25.69 it is the top pick in this set because those reviews are British, even though the listing score ties NAYE, and it remains a stamp for pencil-thick wood rather than proof a union will take.

Pros

  • U, V and omega blades, stated near 10 mm
  • Films, tags, grafting knife, screwdriver, wrench and clips, plus a zipper case in UK reviews
  • 4.1 from 16 reviews; all 11 stored texts are United Kingdom
  • UK reviews describe clean cuts on young shoots and a yellow lock that holds closed
  • One reviewer changed blades with the included screwdriver

Cons

  • No finished take in the 11 UK texts
  • Knife is very sharp and a reviewer wanted a cover
  • Hands ached on a longer session; the first blade release was fiddly
  • Case has no moulded space for the knife

Best for: A first kit for pencil-thick fruit wood when you want named profiles, a lock and UK review text in the file.

Less suitable: Wood clearly over about 10 mm, or anyone who needs a reported take from this season.

Common questions

What cut shapes does this FUJIWARA kit make?

The listing names three replaceable blades: U, V and omega. It says the tool can cut small fruit branches of nearly 10 mm.

What is in the box besides the pruner?

The listing lists two grafting films, plant tags, a grafting knife, a screwdriver, a wrench and small branch clips. UK reviews also describe a zipper case.

Does it lock, and are the UK reviews about real grafts?

The bullets describe a yellow button you press and push up to lock. All 11 stored reviews are from the United Kingdom. They praise the kit. They do not report a finished take.

Jwthee (deep V)

Rank 6

Jwthee (deep V)

∼£29

Our view

The Jwthee listing states a deep V and a 2 cm cut on an aluminium body with an SKS7 blade, at £28.59. The item-weight field says 605 g and a bullet says about 729 g, so the page does not agree with itself on weight. The included-components field says No, which means tape, a knife and spare blades are not listed. There is no customer-review line and no review text, so nobody in this file has described a cut or a take. A labour-saving percentage in the bullets is advertising copy, not a measurement from a trial. With no U or omega named, you are buying a single printed profile and a diameter sentence. It is the dearest row in the set and the one with the least written evidence, and it only fits if you already want a deep V near 2 cm and you accept that gap.

Pros

  • Deep V named, with a stated 2 cm cut
  • Aluminium body and an SKS7 blade on the listing
  • Diameter in the bullets matches the 2 cm spec field

Cons

  • No customer-review line and no review text
  • Included components field says No
  • Weight is 605 g in one field and about 729 g in a bullet
  • No U or omega, and a labour claim is not a measurement

Best for: A single deep V near 2 cm when you already accept a listing with no reviews.

Less suitable: Anyone who wants UK review text, a U or omega blade, or tape in the box.

Common questions

What profile and size does Jwthee state?

The bullets name a deep V and a 2 cm cut. They do not name U or omega. The spec cutting width is also 2 cm.

What is the weight?

The item-weight field says 605 g. A bullet says approximately 729 g. Both figures are in the listing. There is no review line to compare them with.

Does the box include tape or spare blades?

The included-components field says No. The bullets say the blade can be replaced. They do not list tape, a knife or a case. There is no customer-review line.

Piceioep (8–20 mm)

Rank 7

Piceioep (8–20 mm)

∼£20

Our view

The Piceioep listing states an aluminium alloy body for branches from 8 mm to 20 mm, at £19.99, and it does not name a V, U or omega profile, a blade steel, a lock or what is in the box. The saved listing has no customer-review line and no review text. The date first available on the listing is 12 April 2025. The title talks about thick-branch grafting, which is a wider claim than the stamp tools that print a ceiling near 10 mm, and there is no UK account of whether the cut finishes. No weight is given. At a mid-band price you are paying for a diameter sentence and an alloy body. It stays a speculative row until a profile name and a review appear, and 8–20 mm is not evidence that a 20 mm limb will seat cambium.

Pros

  • Stated branch range 8–20 mm
  • Aluminium alloy body named in the bullets
  • £19.99 on this snapshot

Cons

  • No named V, U or omega profile
  • No review line and no review text
  • Blade steel, lock, weight and box contents are unstated
  • The title’s thick-branch claim is not backed by a UK account of a finished cut

Best for: A buyer who already knows they want an unnamed aluminium tool in the 8–20 mm sentence and can accept zero reviews.

Less suitable: Anyone who needs a named profile, a contents list, or any written review before they pay £19.99.

How we compared

Scores compare the seven amazon.co.uk grafting tools kept in this set. Prices, stars and review counts are the listing lines captured on 20 October 2026. There is no laboratory test and no graft trial. Stars contribute up to 55 points: the amazon.co.uk rating divided by 5, times 55, rounded. A missing star line scores 0. Review volume adds 3, 6 or 8. A named V, U, omega or deep V adds 8. A diameter in the bullets adds 6. Tape, a knife or a second cutter adds 6, blades only add 2, and unstated contents add 0. Price under £12 adds 4, from £12 up to £27 adds 2, and £27 or more adds 0. Repeated crush, a short joint, film that is not grafting tape, or no take yet is then subtracted. A labour-saving percentage in a bullet is not scored. The weights below sum to 100. They describe the relative emphasis of those blocks. In sentences this page says top pick and best value.

1

Amazon stars

63%

The amazon.co.uk rating divided by 5, times 55, rounded. A missing star line scores 0 on that scale. The star line is not a graft take rate.

2

Grafting tool buying guide

Choose by the printed diameter, the named profile and the box contents before the shelf price. A large review count is not a take rate, and film in the box is not nursery grafting tape. Prices below are amazon.co.uk lines from 20 October 2026.

What to check on a grafting tool

A grafting tool is a hand pruner that stamps a matching V, U or omega joint in a scion and a rootstock so you can bind them until the cambium joins. It is for matched small wood, often with a second ordinary cutter on the same tool. A grafting knife makes the long sloping whip-and-tongue cut and is a different category. Chip budding and T-budding are summer knife methods. A bypass secateur, a lopper or a pole saw does not cut a grafting profile. Check four things, in this order.

Best for

  • A first kit for pencil-thick fruit wood, with named profiles and UK review text
  • Soft matched twigs inside a printed 10 mm ceiling, when you bring your own grafting tape

Not ideal for

  • Dry hardwood, a trunk, or wood thicker than the printed ceiling
  • Anyone who needs a recorded take rate, or who will sell the grafted plants

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

Reading 35 mm or 0.44 inch as the capacity

LSLANSOON bullets state 5–12 mm. A spec field says 35 mm. NAYE bullets state 3/16 to 17/32 inch. A spec field says 0.44 inch. Keep the bullet. A UK review of the LSLANSOON says it only cuts extremely thin wood.

  2. 2

Treating kit film as nursery tape

NAYE stored reviews call the film cling film or ordinary wrap, and say the rubber bands do not hold a branch. Yuhtech’s UK notes say the included tape is hard to bond. Bind with grafting tape or raffia, and remove the tie when callus shows.

  3. 3

Quoting a bullet as a take rate

A labour-saving percentage is not a measurement. None of the stored UK texts on the FUJIWARA reports a finished take. NAYE’s 1,240 reviews are not British gardeners’ comments. Some losses are normal even when the cut is clean.

What to weigh up

Diameter and named profile

High

Stay inside the bullet. Nearly 10 mm, up to 10 mm, 5–12 mm, about 4.8–13.5 mm as arithmetic from an inch bullet, 2 cm, or 8–20 mm are different claims. V, U and omega are named on four listings. A deep V is one profile. No named profile means you cannot plan the joint from the page. An offset omega does not find one-sided cambium contact the way a knife can.

Box contents and whose reviews you are reading

High

Films, a knife, a lock, blades only, or a contents field that says No are different kits. Kit film is not nursery grafting tape. FUJIWARA’s stored texts are from the United Kingdom. NAYE’s 1,240-count line is not. Two listings have no review line at all. Price on this snapshot sits under £30, and it comes after those checks. Care and the March timing sit on the how-to-graft page linked above.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

First fruit grafts

You want one kit with named profiles, a lock and UK review text before you treat a large review count as local proof. The FUJIWARA stamps U, V and omega near 10 mm, at about £25.69, with 4.1 from 16 reviews. All 11 stored texts are from the United Kingdom, and none reports a finished take. Skip it for wood clearly over about 10 mm.

Pencil wood, low price

You already know whip-and-tongue and you only want a stamp for uniform soft wood inside 10 mm. The Yuhtech is about £9.99, with 4.1 from 34 reviews, and three of 15 stored texts are from the United Kingdom. UK notes say the cut is short and one reviewer had no take. Keep a knife for mismatched diameters. Skip dry old hardwood.

Own tape, small twigs

You will bring grafting tape and you accept review texts that are not from the United Kingdom. The NAYE carries omega, U and V blades for a bullet range of 3/16 to 17/32 inch, at about £28.00, with 4.4 from 1,240 reviews. None of the 50 stored texts is British. Stored notes call the film cling film. Skip it if you need that count to be UK opinion.

Common questions about grafting tools

Which grafting tool is the top pick in this set?
The top pick in this set is the FUJIWARA F-Graft.TLS.2_UK, about £25.69, with 4.1 from 16 amazon.co.uk reviews. It stamps U, V and omega into small fruit branches the listing puts at nearly 10 mm, and the box adds films, plant tags, a grafting knife and a yellow lock. All 11 stored review texts are from the United Kingdom. None of those texts reports a finished take. It ties the listing score with NAYE. It is the top pick because those reviews are British, not because a union was recorded.
Which listing is the best value?
The best value is the Yuhtech SHEAR-KIT-BK at about £9.99, with 4.1 from 34 amazon.co.uk reviews. The bullets name V, U and omega and a 10 mm ceiling, plus three blades, a 3 cm tape and a spare base. Three of the 15 stored texts are from the United Kingdom. They praise clean cuts on softer wood. They also say the cut is short, the tape is hard to bond, and one reviewer had no take. Dry old hardwood is excluded on the listing.
Which diameter should you plan around?
Use the bullet, not a conflicting spec field. Yuhtech states up to 10 mm. FUJIWARA states nearly 10 mm. LSLANSOON bullets state 5–12 mm, while a spec field says 35 mm, so keep 5–12 mm. NAYE bullets state 3/16 to 17/32 inch, about 4.8–13.5 mm as arithmetic, not a measurement. A 0.44 inch field is not the capacity. Jwthee states 2 cm. Piceioep states 8–20 mm and names no profile. Holy Feather states no millimetre limit. A UK note on LSLANSOON says the practical cut is extremely thin wood.
Is the film in the box grafting tape?
Do not call the film in these kits nursery grafting tape or parafilm. NAYE stored reviews call the film cling film or ordinary wrap, and say the rubber bands do not hold a branch. Yuhtech’s UK notes say the included tape is hard to bond. The Royal Horticultural Society says to bind with grafting tape or raffia, and to remove the tie when callus shows, about eight weeks. Bring tape you trust when the listing does not name nursery tape.
When should you graft apples and pears in the UK?
The Royal Horticultural Society times whip-and-tongue grafting to March or early April. Collect pencil-thick scion wood, about 8 mm, in December or January and keep it dormant. People’s Trust for Endangered Species says match the diameters for full cambium contact. A thinner scion can meet on one side with a knife, not with an offset omega. Apples and pears take more readily than stone fruits, which want warmth and a rootstock that is already growing. Do not touch the cut faces. Some losses are normal.
Do you need a plant passport to graft at home?
A tree that stays in your own garden is not the trade case. GOV.UK lists plants for planting, including cuttings, and the plant-passport FAQ says grafting counts as growing a plant on. A nursery that moves that plant may need a new passport and must keep supplier records. The Fruit Propagation Certification Scheme, in England and Wales, is for commercial certified fruit plants and rootstocks. Northern Ireland movements from Great Britain are a different passport position.
When is a grafting knife a better fit than a stamp tool?
A grafting tool stamps a matching profile in wood of nearly the same thickness. It does not replace a grafting knife. Whip-and-tongue and chip budding are knife cuts. A thinner scion can meet the cambium on one side with a knife, not with an offset omega. If the diameters do not match, or the limb is thicker than the printed ceiling, stop and use a knife or ask a nursery. Chip budding and T-budding are summer methods. Knife listings are in the grafting knife comparison.
What should you not treat as a measured result?
Do not repeat a labour-saving percentage or a high-success bullet as a measurement. None of these listings is a graft trial, and the Advertising Standards Authority expects evidence for an objective claim. Do not present NAYE’s 1,240 amazon.co.uk reviews as British gardeners’ comments. The 50 stored texts are from other countries. Jwthee and Piceioep have no customer-review line. Disinfect between trees. The Royal Horticultural Society cites about 15–20 minutes of contact for the disinfectants it names. Keep blades away from children, and use the lock where the listing prints one.

Our verdict

In this set the top pick is the FUJIWARA F-Graft.TLS.2_UK: about £25.69, 4.1 from 16 amazon.co.uk reviews, with U, V and omega blades, a yellow lock, films, tags and a grafting knife. The 11 stored texts are from the United Kingdom, and none reports a finished take. It ties NAYE on the listing score of 68. NAYE’s 1,240-review line is not treated as British opinion. The best value is the Yuhtech SHEAR-KIT-BK at about £9.99 and a score of 65, for soft wood inside a stated 10 mm. UK notes say the cut is short, the tape is hard to bond, and one reviewer had no take.
