The best grafting tapes, compared.
Top pick: SwiftCartSZH (4-roll PVC) Best value: SKYPRO (PVC 100 m) – Best value among long rolls that are not the top pick and have at least 100 reviews: about £4.99, 2 cm by 100 m, 4.3 from 209. Cut the PVC once the union has callused. Updated 22.10.2026.
Grafting tape is the stretch film, wax-and-polyolefin strip, or small silicone sleeve that holds a scion or a bud against a rootstock while the union calluses. In the United Kingdom, home orchardists use it for whip-and-tongue grafts on apples and pears in March or early April, and for chip budding from mid-summer into early autumn. Judge the roll by the material line, not the title. A wax and polyolefin film that seals to itself is a different product from PVC or ordinary polyethylene. Biodegradable on a PVC listing is not a composting test. A long roll is about 2 cm or 3 cm wide and about 100 m long. A pack of about 10 g is not that roll. The film has to cover a sloping cut of about 5 cm on wood about 8 mm thick. On a chip bud, leave the bud out and take the tape off when the bud swells. Cut a wrap that bites into swelling bark. Material, length and removal are in the [grafting tape buying guide](/hub/garden-tree-and-hedge-shears/grafting-tape/sub/grafting-tape-buying-guide).

Question 1 of 2
What are you wrapping?
SwiftCartSZH lists four rolls at £6.99 and 20 g, with product dimensions of 6 by 6 by 2 cm. The title says 2 cm by 100 m and biodegradable, and the bullets say PVC. The spec block does not repeat that length, and there is no water-resistance field. amazon.co.uk shows 5.0 from five reviews. Three UK texts say it does what is required, seems to be working, or was just what was needed, and none of them names a fault. The bullets claim resistance to mould and fungal growth without a measured result. Five short positive lines on a 20 g pack are not a long-roll trial. Buy it only if a small PVC multipack is the job, and check the length when the parcel arrives.
Pros
Cons
Best for: A small PVC multipack when five short UK lines and a 20 g parcel are enough.
Less suitable: Anyone who needs a weighed 100 m roll, or a water-resistance line on the listing.
Specifications
Common questions
What size is printed in the spec block?
Product dimensions are 6 by 6 by 2 cm and the weight is 20 g. The title also says 2 cm by 100 m and 4 rolls. The spec block does not repeat that length.
What do the UK reviews say?
Three UK texts say it does what is required, seems to be working, or was just what was needed. None of them names a fault.
Does the listing say it is weatherproof?
The file asks the question and does not answer it. There is no water-resistance field. The bullets claim resistance to mould and fungal growth.
Wufaa lists four rolls at £5.99 and 320 g, and the size bullet says each is about 100 m by 3 cm of polyethylene, with a waterproof seal claimed in the bullets. The title says parafilm, while the material bullet says biodegradable polyethylene and the file does not name wax and polyolefin. amazon.co.uk shows 5.0 from one review, and the saved listing has no review paragraph. Product dimensions are printed as 5 by 3 by 1 cm, which does not describe four rolls of 100 m film, so treat the metre line as a bullet rather than a weighed fact. The star line is not evidence of a graft. Leave it until a written UK review describes the film.
Pros
Cons
Best for: Only if you already accept a polyethylene bullet and will not use a 5.0 from one blank review as proof.
Less suitable: Anyone shopping the word parafilm, or anyone who needs a written UK review of the film.
Specifications
Common questions
Is this Parafilm?
The title says parafilm. The material bullet says biodegradable polyethylene. The file does not name wax and polyolefin.
How much tape is in the box?
The title says 4 rolls. The size bullet says each roll is about 100 m by 3 cm. Product dimensions are 5 by 3 by 1 cm and the weight is 320 g.
Is there a review of the film?
The star line is 5.0 from 1 review. The saved listing has no review paragraph.
ACKKOR sells 100 soft silicone sleeves stated for graft points of 3–7.5 mm, at 10 g and £4.99, and the bullets say no knots, glue or tools. The listing names apple, peach, citrus, pear and cherry, and small to medium grafts, not every fruit tree. amazon.co.uk shows 5.0 from one review, and the file has no paragraph, so there is no text about healing or weather. The sleeves are not a metre-long film. A pencil-thick scion the Royal Horticultural Society puts at about 8 mm sits outside the stated 7.5 mm top of the range. Use them only when the union is already inside 3–7.5 mm and you accept a single star with no written review.
Pros
Cons
Best for: Small to medium unions already inside 3–7.5 mm, when a sleeve is the object you want.
Less suitable: Pencil-thick wood at about 8 mm, or anyone who needs a written review of how the sleeve holds.
Specifications
Common questions
What diameter do the sleeves fit?
The bullets say the tubes stretch over graft points of 3–7.5 mm by hand. They are not a metre-long film roll.
Which trees does the listing name?
The bullets name apple, peach, citrus, pear and cherry, and small to medium grafts. They do not say every fruit tree.
Is there a review of how they hold?
The star line is 5.0 from 1 review. The saved listing has no review paragraph, so there is no text about healing or weather.
Bailinks lists two polyethylene rolls at 105 g and £5.89, and the size bullet says about 100 m long and 3 cm wide, with waterproof and biodegradable claimed in the bullets. amazon.co.uk shows 4.5 from 100 reviews. One UK reviewer did about 50 apple grafts and says the first turn tries to slip, then the wrap is easy. Another could not unwind a roll that had fused into a lump. The recommended-uses line names budding and grafting of pecans, walnuts, citrus, avocado, stone fruits and flowers, and UK texts also mention apple trees and a bonsai branch. The number-of-items field says 1 while the title says 2 pieces. There is no decay test behind the biodegradable line. It is the wider stated polyethylene pair in this set when you will cut the film if it starts to bite.
Pros
Cons
Best for: A wider polyethylene film, about 3 cm, when you are grafting apples and will watch the first turn.
Less suitable: Anyone who needs a wax-and-polyolefin material line, or a film that will not fuse on the roll.
Specifications
Common questions
How many rolls, and how long?
The title says 2 pieces and the pack count is 2. The size bullet says about 100 m long and 3 cm wide. The number-of-items field says 1.
What do UK reviews say about the first turn?
One UK reviewer did about 50 apple grafts and says the first turn tries to slip, then the wrap is easy. Another could not unwind a roll that had fused into a lump.
Which trees does the listing name?
The recommended-uses line names budding and grafting of pecans, walnuts, citrus, avocado, stone fruits and flowers. UK texts also mention apple trees and a bonsai branch.
The kcrnw listing has four rolls at £6.89, and the title says 2 cm by 100 m parafilm that is biodegradable, while the material field and the bullets say PVC. Item weight is 10 g and the dimensions are 50 by 50 by 10 mm, so the title length is not in the size fields. amazon.co.uk shows 4.5 from eight reviews. One UK review calls the quality good but says florist tape should hold the graft while this film is bound on. The other says the stretchy bond only works near breaking point and does not adhere well to other materials. Special features include waterproof, with no measured weather result in the file. A 10 g pack at this price is not the same purchase as a stated 100 m roll.
Pros
Cons
Best for: A small PVC film only if you will hold the graft with florist tape and you ignore the parafilm word.
Less suitable: A stated 100 m roll, or a film that UK reviews say will bind on its own without another tie.
Specifications
Common questions
Is the word parafilm the material?
The title says parafilm. The material field and the bullets say PVC. Item weight is 10 g and the dimensions are 50 by 50 by 10 mm.
Do the UK reviews say it binds on its own?
One UK review calls the quality good but says florist tape should hold the graft while this film is bound on. The other says the stretchy bond only works near breaking point and does not adhere well to other materials.
Does the listing say it is waterproof?
Special features include waterproof. The saved listing does not answer the biodegradable or mould prompts with a measured result.
SKYPRO lists one transparent PVC roll at 2 cm by 100 m and 50 g for £4.99, and the listing says waterproof. Across 209 amazon.co.uk reviews the line is 4.3, the deepest review count on a stated long roll in this set. UK texts split: some say it is strong and held an apple graft, one says it has no adhesive and is cling film, and another says it did not hold a branch in wind. The title says bio-degradable while the material bullet and the material field both say PVC, and the file names no composting standard. It is the best value here among the long rolls that are not the top pick, because the length is stated, the price is £4.99 and the review sample is deep, provided you plan to cut the film off rather than wait for it to fall away.
Pros
Cons
Best for: A long narrow PVC roll at about £4.99 when you already plan to cut the film once the union has callused.
Less suitable: Anyone who reads the bio-degradable title as a film that falls away, or who needs a stated 3 cm width.
Specifications
Common questions
What size is the roll?
The package line says 2 cm by 100 m, also printed as 0.78 inches by 328 feet. The pack is one roll at 50 g.
Is the biodegradable claim the material line?
The title says bio-degradable. The material bullet and the material field both say PVC. The file does not name a composting standard.
Do UK reviews say it sticks?
UK texts split. Some say it is strong and held an apple graft. One says it has no adhesive and is cling film. Another says it did not hold a branch in wind.
The shweehon listing has four PVC pieces with a size field of 5.5 by 2 cm and a pack weight of 10 g at £5.09. The water-resistance field says not water resistant, and no metre length is printed. amazon.co.uk shows 4.3 from eight reviews. One UK review used the four rolls for grafting and training climbers. Another says the tape is way too narrow and wanted at least a couple of inches of width. The fields say single sided. This is a short pack for a few small ties, not a substitute for a stated 100 m roll.
Pros
Cons
Best for: A few short PVC ties, including training a climber, when a narrow piece is enough.
Less suitable: A whip-and-tongue on pencil-thick wood, or anyone who needs a waterproof stated-length roll.
Specifications
Common questions
How long is each piece?
The size field says 5.5 by 2 cm. Item weight for the four pieces is 10 g. The file does not state a metre length.
Is it waterproof?
The water-resistance field says not water resistant. The saved listing does not answer the weatherproof prompt.
What do the UK reviews say about width?
One UK review used the four rolls for grafting and training climbers. Another says the tape is way too narrow and wanted at least a couple of inches of width.
Detetap lists one roll at 3 cm by 100 m and 60 g for £5.99, and the bullets say polyolefin and a little wax, self-adhering and waterproof. The material field on the same listing says polyethylene, so both lines stay in view, and the title does not say parafilm. Across 201 amazon.co.uk reviews the line is 4.2. One UK review says the film is thin and will not stick together or tie tightly, and other texts in the file, not from the United Kingdom, often say the same. A bullet says biodegradable in sunlight, which is not a composting standard and not the Agroforestry Research Trust’s account of named Parafilm falling away in summer. Thickness fields also print 3 centimetres, the same figure as the width. It is the top pick in this set for the only wax-and-polyolefin wording on a stated 100 m roll, with the limit that a UK review already says the film may not seal to itself.
Pros
Cons
Best for: A home grafter who wants the only wax-and-polyolefin wording in this set on a stated 3 cm by 100 m roll.
Less suitable: Anyone who needs named Parafilm from the Agroforestry Research Trust, or a film a UK review has already said will not seal.
Specifications
Common questions
What is the material?
The bullet says polyolefin and a little wax. The adhesive-material field says polyolefin. The material field says polyethylene. The title does not say parafilm.
What size is the roll?
The bullet says 3 cm by 100 m, one roll, item weight 60 g. The thickness fields also say 3 centimetres, which is the same figure as the width.
Does it stick to itself?
The listing says self-adhering and waterproof. One UK review says it is thin and will not stick together or tie tightly.
METERXITY lists one PVC roll at 125 m by 2 cm by 0.03 mm, 80 g, for £4.69, and the listing says water resistant. The bullets say the seal is not easy for water to get through, and there is no separate weather test in the file. amazon.co.uk shows 4.2 from 30 reviews. Those same five texts, including the UK line about a small ornamental tree, also sit on the two-roll ASIN, with the same rank line, so this is one sample rather than a second verdict. The stated length is the longest single figure in the set, at a listed thickness of 0.03 mm. You get a cheap stated long PVC roll, with the limit that the review count is shared and thin.
Pros
Cons
Best for: The cheapest stated long PVC length in this set, at 125 m by 2 cm, when you treat the 30 reviews as one shared sample.
Less suitable: Anyone who would count this star line and the two-roll star line as two independent tests.
Specifications
Common questions
How long is the roll?
The size bullet says 125 m by 2 cm by 0.03 mm per pack, also printed as 131 yards by 0.8 inches by 0.0012 inches. The pack is one roll.
Is it waterproof?
The listing says water resistant, and the bullets say the seal is not easy for water to get through. There is no separate weather test in the file.
Is this a different sample from the 2-pack?
The saved listing shares the same 4.2 from 30, the same rank line, and the same five review texts as ASIN B0DSG3C4VY. Treat them as one review sample.
This METERXITY pack lists two PVC rolls, each stated as 125 m by 2 cm by 0.03 mm, at 140 g and £4.79. The star line is the same 4.2 from 30 as the one-roll, and the same UK sentence about a small ornamental tree appears here, so you should not treat this as a second 30-review test. This file has no water-resistance field, though the bullets still say the seal is not easy for water to get through. The included-components field says false while the size bullet says two pieces. At ten pence more than the one-roll you get a second stated length, not new evidence. The shared sample is why this row sits below the one-pack on the page score.
Pros
Cons
Best for: A spare PVC roll of the same stated 125 m by 2 cm size, if you already accept the shared 4.2 from 30.
Less suitable: A buyer who wants a listing with its own review texts, or a water-resistance field on the page.
Specifications
Common questions
What is in the pack?
The size bullet says 2 pieces, each 125 m by 2 cm by 0.03 mm. Item weight is 140 g. The included-components field says false.
Does the listing say it is waterproof?
This file has no water-resistance field. The bullets say the seal is not easy for water to get through. The 1-pack file is the one that says water resistant.
Are the 30 reviews separate from the 1-pack?
No. The same five texts, including the UK line about a small ornamental tree, appear on both ASINs, with the same 4.2 from 30.
Yurifaz is a kit of five rolls plus ten nylon plant labels at £7.39 and 420 g, the dearest row in this set. The 2 cm film is described as non-adhesive for fruit trees and the 3 cm film as self-adhesive, and the material line is PVC and PE. No metre length is printed. The water-resistance field says not water resistant, while a separate bullet says the film seals against rain and drying out, so the table and the bullet disagree. amazon.co.uk shows 4.2 from 25 reviews. One UK review praises the quantity and the extras, and another says it works a treat, and neither names a fault. Tear-strength complaints in the file are from Germany, not the United Kingdom, so they stay out of the UK verdict. The title says parafilm without a wax-and-polyolefin material line.
Pros
Cons
Best for: A width-and-label kit when you want 2 cm and 3 cm film together and will ignore the parafilm word in the title.
Less suitable: A waterproof long roll, or anyone who needs a stated metre length before they order.
Specifications
Common questions
Is the listing waterproof?
The water-resistance field says not water resistant. A separate bullet says the film seals against rain and drying out. The table is the field that says not water resistant.
What is in the kit?
Five rolls: 2 cm described as non-adhesive for fruit trees, and 3 cm described as self-adhesive. Plus 10 nylon plant labels. No metre length is printed.
What do the UK reviews say?
One UK review praises the quantity and the extras. Another says it works a treat. Neither names a fault. Tear-strength complaints in the file are from Germany, not the UK.
Scores compare the eleven amazon.co.uk listings kept in this set. Prices, stars and review counts are the listing lines saved on 21 October 2026. There is no laboratory test and no graft trial. A score uses the star line on a 40-point scale, the review count, a printed material, a stated length and width, and a water line. It then subtracts a title that fights the material line, a review block copied onto a second ASIN, a missing review paragraph, or a table that says not water resistant. The stored scores were not recalculated for this page. The weights below sum to 100. They describe the relative emphasis of those checks. In sentences this page says top pick and best value.
Amazon stars
49%Stars sit on a 40-point scale: 4.2 is 34, 4.3 is 34, 4.5 is 36, and 5.0 is 40. A high star line from one review is not a graft trial.
Review count
22%Review volume adds more for 100 or 200 reviews than for a single rating or a handful of texts. A 5.0 from one review with no paragraph stays a thin sample.
Printed material
10%A printed material line, such as PVC, polyethylene, polyolefin or silicone, adds 8. The word parafilm in a title is not that line.
Stated length and width
15%A stated length near 100 m or 125 m adds 8. A stated 2 cm or 3 cm width adds 4. A 10 g pack with no metre length does not take those points.
Water line
4%A waterproof or water-resistant line adds 3. A table that says not water resistant is subtracted. The line is a listing claim, not a weather trial.
Choose the material line before the title. A wax-and-polyolefin roll, a PVC film and a silicone sleeve are different products, even when the search results use the same words. Prices below are amazon.co.uk shelf prices on 21 October 2026.
Grafting tape holds a scion or a bud against a rootstock while the union calluses. In the UK that is mostly whip-and-tongue on apples and pears in March or early April, and chip budding from mid-summer into early autumn. The Royal Horticultural Society describes whip-and-tongue on a scion about 8 mm thick, with a sloping cut about 5 cm, and says you can bind with grafting tape or raffia. Chip budding uses tape or polythene, with the bud and the leaf stalk left out.
Parafilm on the Trust page is wax and polyolefin that seals to itself. Several titles here put the word on PVC or polyethylene. Biodegradable on a PVC bullet is not a composting test.
kcrnw and shweehon are 10 g. SwiftCartSZH is 20 g, and its 6 by 6 by 2 cm spec block does not repeat the title length. A stated 100 m roll is a different purchase.
The RHS says leave the chip bud and the leaf stalk out, and take the tape off when the bud swells. The two METERXITY star lines are the same 4.2 from 30, with the same review texts.
The first check is the material line, not the title. Detetap is the only listing whose bullets say polyolefin and a little wax. The material field on that listing also says polyethylene, so both stay in view. SKYPRO, both METERXITY packs, shweehon, kcrnw and SwiftCartSZH print PVC. Bailinks and Wufaa print polyethylene. Yurifaz prints PVC and PE. ACKKOR is silicone sleeves for 3–7.5 mm.
A long roll here is about 2 cm or 3 cm by about 100 m to 125 m. SKYPRO, Bailinks, Detetap and METERXITY print a metre length. Wufaa prints one in a bullet that clashes with product dimensions of 5 by 3 by 1 cm. A 10 g or 20 g pack is not that roll. The RHS chip-budding page says leave the bud out and take the tape off when it swells. PVC and ordinary polythene in these files have no decay test, so cut a wrap that bites into bark.
Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.
You are grafting pencil-thick apples or pears and you want the only wax-and-polyolefin wording on a stated long roll. Detetap is about £5.99, 3 cm by 100 m, 60 g, with 4.2 from 201 reviews. The material field also says polyethylene, and one UK review says the film will not stick to itself.
You want a stated 100 m roll and you already plan to cut the film once the union has callused. SKYPRO is about £4.99, 2 cm by 100 m PVC, with 4.3 from 209 reviews. The title says bio-degradable on a PVC line. UK texts also say it has no adhesive, and that wind pulled a branch free.
The union is already inside 3–7.5 mm and you want sleeves, not a film you spiral-wrap. ACKKOR is 100 sleeves at about £4.99 and 10 g. The star line is 5.0 from one review, with no paragraph. A pencil-thick scion of about 8 mm sits outside the stated range.
In this set the top pick is Detetap: about £5.99, 4.2 from 201 amazon.co.uk reviews, and the only bullets that say polyolefin and a little wax on a stated 3 cm by 100 m roll. The material field also says polyethylene, and one UK review says the film will not stick together or tie tightly. The best value is SKYPRO at about £4.99, 2 cm by 100 m PVC, with 4.3 from 209 reviews. It is the lowest price among the long-roll listings that are not the top pick and that have at least 100 reviews. The title says bio-degradable on a PVC line, so plan to cut the film off. Bailinks is the next score, at about £5.89, and does not take a badge. METERXITY at about £4.69 has fewer than 100 reviews in a sample shared with the two-roll ASIN, so it does not take the value badge.
SKYPRO (PVC 100 m)
Best value among long rolls that are not the top pick and have at least 100 reviews: about £4.99, 2 cm by 100 m, 4.3 from 209. Cut the PVC once the union has callused.
