Grafting tape buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

You are on amazon.co.uk with a whip-and-tongue apple on the bench, and the titles all sound like the same roll. This grafting tape buying guide puts the material line ahead of the metre figure, then how the film comes off, and the price last. The folder runs from £4.69 to £7.39. A title that says parafilm, biodegradable or 100 m is part of satisfactory quality under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, section 9, not a laboratory result. The eleven listings stay on the [grafting tape comparison](/hub/garden-tree-and-hedge-shears/grafting-tape). Peter F. set this order on 21 October 2026 from the listing fields and the Royal Horticultural Society. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Material before the title

Read the material bullet before the word in the title. Detetap, B08SWC1NJ6, at £5.99, is the only listing whose bullets say polyolefin and a little wax. The material field says polyethylene, and the title does not say parafilm. Both lines stay. That is the closest wording here to the wax-and-polyolefin blend on the Amcor sheet, which seals to itself when stretched. Detetap is not that named film. kcrnw, SwiftCartSZH and Wufaa put parafilm in the title and PVC or polyethylene in the bullets. SKYPRO says bio-degradable and PVC. Named Parafilm from the Agroforestry Research Trust is £13 for 1 inch by 90 feet and is not one of these eleven ASINs. The argument is on parafilm versus PVC grafting tape.

A stated length, not a gram weight

A whip-and-tongue on wood about 8 mm thick, with a sloping cut about 5 cm, wants a stated 2 cm or 3 cm width and a stated length. SKYPRO states 2 cm by 100 m. Both METERXITY packs state 125 m by 2 cm. Detetap states 3 cm by 100 m. Bailinks says about 100 m by 3 cm on two rolls. Wufaa’s bullet says about 100 m by 3 cm, while the product dimensions print 5 by 3 by 1 cm. kcrnw and shweehon are 10 g. SwiftCartSZH is 20 g. Yurifaz states widths and no metres. ACKKOR is sleeves for 3–7.5 mm, not a roll. A 10 g or 20 g parcel is not a stated 100 m roll.

How you will get it off

On a whip-and-tongue, the Royal Horticultural Society says to take the tie off when a callus is clearly visible, about eight weeks. On a chip bud, leave the bud and the leaf stalk out, and take the tape off when the bud swells. The Trust’s summer fall-away is their Parafilm, not the PVC and ordinary polythene here. Those films have no decay test. If a wrap bites into swelling bark, cut it. A waterproof line is a listing claim, not a weather trial. Rose T-budding wants a rubber tie or damp raffia. The month for apples and pears is on grafting tape for fruit trees.

Price inside this folder

These prices are listing snapshots, not a national average. About £4.69–£5.10 holds the METERXITY rolls, SKYPRO at £4.99, the sleeves and shweehon. About £5.89–£6.99 holds Bailinks, Detetap, Wufaa and the small PVC packs. £4.69 for a stated 125 m roll is not £6.89 for a 10 g pack. The two METERXITY star lines are one sample, both 4.2 from 30. Prefer a stated length plus a UK review sentence over a 5.0 with no paragraph.

Common questions

What should I check before the price?
Check the material line, then a stated length and width, then how you will get the film off. Detetap is the only bullet here that says polyolefin and a little wax, and its material field also says polyethylene. Long rolls print about 100 m or 125 m at 2 cm or 3 cm. A 10 g or 20 g pack is not that roll. Price, from £4.69 to £7.39 in this folder, only sorts listings that already match the job.
Is a title that says parafilm the wax and polyolefin film?
No. Parafilm on the Amcor sheet is a wax and polyolefin blend. In this set, kcrnw, SwiftCartSZH and Wufaa put parafilm in the title and PVC or polyethylene in the bullets. Named Parafilm from the Agroforestry Research Trust is £13 for 1 inch by 90 feet and is not one of these ASINs. Read the material field before you treat the title as the brand.
Is a 10 g pack the same purchase as a 100 m roll?
No. kcrnw is 10 g at 50 by 50 by 10 mm, shweehon is 10 g with a size field of 5.5 by 2 cm, and SwiftCartSZH is 20 g at 6 by 6 by 2 cm, even where a title says 2 cm by 100 m. SKYPRO states 2 cm by 100 m at 50 g for the roll. Compare the size field and the weight, not the title numbers alone.
When does the film have to come off?
On a whip-and-tongue, the Royal Horticultural Society says to remove the tie when a callus is clearly visible, about eight weeks. On a chip bud, take it off when the bud swells, and leave the bud and leaf stalk uncovered while it is on. PVC and ordinary polythene in this folder have no decay test. If the wrap bites into bark, cut it. The Trust’s summer fall-away is their Parafilm, not these listings.
Does biodegradable on a PVC listing mean the film will fall away?
No. SKYPRO’s title says bio-degradable and the material line says PVC. kcrnw and SwiftCartSZH pair biodegradable with PVC as well. None of those files names a composting standard or a decay test. Plan to cut the film. Do not buy the word as a substitute for the Trust’s account of their own roll.
What do the prices in this folder cover?
About £4.69–£5.10 is the short or narrow end and the sleeves, including SKYPRO’s stated 100 m at £4.99. About £5.89–£6.99 is the long-roll cluster and the small PVC multipacks. £7.39 is the Yurifaz kit, with no metre length and a table that says not water resistant. These are amazon.co.uk snapshots in this folder, not a shop-wide average.
When is this the wrong product?
Rose T-budding wants a rubber tie or damp raffia, on the Royal Horticultural Society’s page, not one of these films. Do not bring scion wood back from abroad. Stop for a large limb over a path or roof, a possible tree preservation order, a nest in use, or a suspected quarantine pest. A longer roll does not fix any of those.
