Click vinyl flooring buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You are comparing four amazon.co.uk click vinyl listings, and the numbers on the packs do not describe the same thing. One price is £29.99 per square metre for a 4 mm board. Another is £55.99 for 1.7568 m² of 6.5 mm SPC. All four print a 0.55 mm wear layer. This click vinyl flooring buying guide puts those figures in order, so you know whether you are paying for the wearing film, the core, or a roll of underlay that is not in the box. The listings themselves sit on the [click vinyl comparison](/hub/flooring/click-vinyl). Nothing here crowns a colour. Prices and stars are the amazon.co.uk figures from 19 October 2026. There is no lab test.

Wear layer before thickness

The wear layer is the thin film that meets shoes, chair legs and grit. Total thickness is the whole plank, core and any foam included. On the Wood and Beyond buyer guide, about 0.2 mm sits with light domestic use, and 0.55 mm and above sits with heavy domestic or light commercial use. That is a shop map, not a use class printed on these packs. In this set the wear layer does not move. Grey Grandismo, White Cliffs Grandismo, London Fog FLOORNATION and Fog Gray FLOORNATION all state 0.55 mm. The body underneath does move. The Grandismo packs are 4 mm vinyl. The FLOORNATION packs are 6.5 mm stone polymer composite, and 1.5 mm of that build is IXPE foam already stuck to the back. A hall is where the mix-up costs you. Choosing the 6.5 mm plank because it sounds tougher does not buy a thicker wear layer than the 4 mm board. It buys a different core and, on FLOORNATION, foam you do not purchase separately. White Cliffs reviews already describe scratches and stains from trainers and rubber toys that a steam mop did not lift, on that same 0.55 mm film.

Core and underlay

Click vinyl is a lock, not one material. Flooring Wholesale’s LVT and SPC comparison puts ordinary glue-down luxury vinyl around 2–3 mm, stuck to the floor, and SPC click as a rigid floating plank, often around 4–5 mm. The Grandismo pages sit between those labels. The title says rigid-core click vinyl and LVT, the material line says vinyl, and the thickness is 4 mm. They are not described as stone polymer composite. The FLOORNATION bullets say SPC, with limestone and stabiliser, and a glueless click-lock. If you wanted a flexible tile that is glued down, none of these four is that product. Underlay is the next bill. Both Grandismo listings tell you to use Grandismo LVT underlay, and the 1 m² pack does not include it. Both FLOORNATION listings say 1.5 mm IXPE is already attached and that you do not buy a separate roll. A second foam sheet under an attached layer lets the locks rock. How that plays out on the day is on how to lay click vinyl flooring. A £29.99 square metre that still needs a roll is not the same purchase as a pack that already carries 1.5 mm of foam, even when the wear layer matches. All four listings name a bathroom. The FLOORNATION bullets also say wet rooms. A vinyl or SPC core and a floating joint are not a tanked floor. BS EN 16511 leaves frequent wetting, including bathrooms, to a recommendation from the producer, rather than to every click plank on the market. A level-access shower is no longer a choice between these packs.

Price per square metre

Grandismo prints £29.99 per square metre, and the pack covers 1 m², so one pack is £29.99 before underlay. FLOORNATION prints £55.99 a pack and 1.7568 m². Divide those two stated figures and you get about £31.87 per square metre, with the IXPE included. That figure is your division of the listing. It is not a unit price printed on the London Fog or Fog Gray page. Use the pack price and the coverage, then do the sum yourself. Take a 12 m² room before waste. Twelve Grandismo packs come to £359.88 for the vinyl alone. The same 12 m² is 12 divided by 1.7568, about 6.9 packs, so you order seven FLOORNATION packs at £55.99, which is £391.93, and the foam is already on the plank. The Grandismo total still needs the underlay the warranty line names. This set does not print that roll’s price, so there is no honest saving to award in either direction. About ten percent extra for a simple rectangle is a rule of thumb, and more if the room has a bay, a chimney breast or a run of doorways. On that 12 m² room, ten percent means you plan for about 13.2 m². Only the Grandismo packs are sold as 1 m².

What the listing does not prove

Grandismo prints a commercial grade line and the words ISO 9001. ISO 9001 is a quality-management mark for a factory system. It is not a floor use class, and it is not class 33. None of these four listings states a use class you could set beside a wear classification. Do not promote commercial into a class the page never states. Reviews are a different kind of evidence, and they are not equal. Grey Grandismo is 4.4 from 88 amazon.co.uk reviews. White Cliffs is 4.3 from 79. London Fog is 5.0 from three short reviews. Fog Gray has no star line, so you cannot copy the 5.0 across from the other FLOORNATION listing. Three perfect ratings do not outrank 4.4 from 88. Who that points you toward is on best click vinyl flooring. FLOORNATION states underfloor heating up to 27°C. Grandismo states no maximum. One grey review describes the floor bowing and softening once the heating came on. If the room has electric mats or a water loop, a missing number is a reason to stop. It is not a reason to borrow 27°C from the other brand. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

Common questions

Is click vinyl the same as LVT?
Click describes the lock. LVT is a vinyl tile, often a thinner piece that is glued down. Grandismo uses both ideas in one title: rigid-core click vinyl and LVT, at 4 mm, floated rather than stuck. FLOORNATION is an SPC click plank. A shop guide that means 2–3 mm glue-down LVT is not describing these four packs.
What wear layer should you buy for a hall?
Every listing in this set states 0.55 mm, which the Wood and Beyond map places in a heavy-domestic or light-commercial band. That is a fair hall starting point next to a 0.2 mm film. It does not stop grit marking the surface. White Cliffs reviews already mention trainer marks on that thickness.
Does a thicker plank last longer?
Not from thickness alone. The 4 mm and 6.5 mm boards in this set share a 0.55 mm wear layer. The extra depth on the SPC packs is core and attached foam. That changes the feel and whether you buy underlay. It does not, on these pages, give you a thicker wearing film.
Do you still need underlay?
On Grandismo, yes. The warranty line says to use Grandismo LVT underlay, and it is not in the 1 m² box. On FLOORNATION, the listing says 1.5 mm IXPE is already attached, so a separate roll is not part of that buy. A second foam layer under attached IXPE is not what the bullet describes.
How do you compare a pack price with a price per square metre?
Divide the pack price by the stated coverage and say that you did. £55.99 divided by 1.7568 m² is about £31.87 per square metre. Grandismo already prints £29.99 per square metre for a 1 m² pack. Add underlay only where the listing says the pack does not include it.
