Chisel tiles comparison 2026

The best chisel tiles, compared.

Top pick: Lytool 40 mm and 100 mm set Best value: Lebahan 165 mm 25° tile chisel – £12.99 for a stated 25° on a 165 × 75 mm blade, with 4.5 from 560 reviews. Updated October 2026.

Peter F.Editor

If you are stripping ceramic or porcelain in a kitchen or bathroom, a tile chisel is a wide steel blade on an SDS-Plus shank. A rotary hammer in hammer-only mode drives it under the tile and the adhesive. A high star line does not mean the shank will survive the session. SDS-Max and a 13 mm combi chuck will not hold these bits. A bolster and a club hammer is a different job on a small solid wall. Stop if the floor may be asbestos vinyl or thermoplastic tile. The [tile chisel buying guide](/hub/flooring-tools-and-accessories/chisel-tiles/sub/chisel-tiles-buying-guide) sets the order: shank, hammer-only mode, width, bend, then the floor itself. UK buyers are householders stripping a kitchen or bathroom, and tradespeople who already own an SDS-Plus hammer. You judge a bit by shank fit, the stated width and bend, and whether UK reviews show the tail surviving a real session.

The best chisel tiles in detail

Lytool 40 mm and 100 mm set

Rank 1

Lytool 40 mm and 100 mm set

∼£16

Our view

The Lytool CB19220 is £16.14 on amazon.co.uk, with 4.6 from 842 reviews, the largest star line in this set. The bullets state 250 × 40 mm and 280 × 100 mm, the item-count field says 1, and the dimension line matches the narrow piece. UK texts say it lifts stubborn wall tiles and floor tiles, and one reviewer used the wide blade on two porcelain floors. Reviewers also call it strong on render and cement grout, and one says it fits an SDS-Plus drill. The same file includes a fixing end that broke inside the drill after about 15 minutes, and an edge that dulled quickly on concrete while staying acceptable on brick. One reviewer had only used it on plaster and was unsure of the quality. A review says the product picture understates the size. The 100 mm piece is a scaling blade, so the star line is not two 75 mm tile spades.

Pros

  • 4.6 from 842 amazon.co.uk reviews, the largest file in this set
  • UK reviews include stubborn wall tiles and two porcelain floors on the wide blade
  • A 40 mm blade for narrower work beside a 100 mm scaling blade
  • Bullets name SDS-Plus hammers from DeWalt, Bosch, Milwaukee, Makita, and Hitachi as examples of that system

Cons

  • The fixing end broke inside the drill after about 15 minutes in a UK review
  • The 100 mm blade is for scaling, not a second 75 mm tile chisel
  • The edge dulled quickly on concrete in one review
  • Item count says 1, and the dimensions match only the 40 mm piece

Best for: A 40 mm tile blade plus a 100 mm scaling blade when you already know those are the two widths you want.

Less suitable: An open ceramic floor where you wanted two 75 mm spades, or a plaster wall you hope to save.

Common questions

Does the listing answer whether it removes bathroom tiles?

The question is on the page and has no answer line. The bullets mention a kitchen or bathroom remodel and tile removal.

Which SDS system do the bullets name?

SDS-Plus, with DeWalt, Bosch, Milwaukee, Makita, and Hitachi given as examples of that system.

What are the two blade sizes?

Bullets state 250 × 40 mm and 280 × 100 mm.

VonLux two-piece cranked set

Rank 2

VonLux two-piece cranked set

∼£17

Our view

The VonLux AOBADEB102 is two SDS-Plus cranked chisels, 165 × 75 mm and 250 × 75 mm, at £16.90, with 4.6 from 121 reviews. In the 14 UK texts, one short chisel made fast work of bathroom tiles without damaging the wall, and reviewers describe it as quicker than a hammer and chisel for stripping tiles. One buyer used it on ceramic tiling and on vinyl tiles stuck with bitumen adhesive and found the angle more comfortable; that vinyl job is a review, and it is not a method for a floor that may contain asbestos. The larger chisel lifted floor tiles for about five hours and still looked unused, and another reviewer cleared old tile adhesive from a concrete floor. One review names a Milwaukee SDS rotary hammer at 2.3 J and a Titan SDS. No repeated defect shows in those 14 texts, and one reviewer treats later sharpening as normal. The handle field says wood, which does not describe an SDS shank, the dimension line is 16.5 × 7.5 cm and misses the 250 mm piece, and the crank has no degree figure. It is the top pick in this set when you want two 75 mm lengths and a UK review file that does not repeat a shank snap.

Pros

  • Two 75 mm cranked blades, 165 mm and 250 mm, at £16.90
  • UK reviews include bathroom tiles and a larger blade used for about five hours
  • Old tile adhesive cleared from a concrete floor in one review
  • No repeated defect in the 14 UK texts read, at 4.6 from 121 reviews

Cons

  • The crank has no degree figure
  • The handle field says wood, and the dimensions miss the 250 mm piece
  • 121 ratings is a smaller file than Lytool’s 842 or Lebahan’s 560
  • One review used it on vinyl with bitumen adhesive, which is the wrong job if that floor may contain asbestos

Best for: A kitchen or bathroom of ceramic or porcelain when you want a short 75 mm blade and a 250 mm spare in the same box.

Less suitable: Plasterboard you hope to save, a floor that may be asbestos vinyl, or a buyer who needs a stated bend in degrees.

Common questions

Does the listing say it can be used on marble?

The marble question has no answer. The bullets name ceramic tiles, concrete, floor tiles, and granite.

What are the two sizes?

165 × 75 mm and 250 × 75 mm, both described as angled bent chisels.

Will it fit every drill?

The bullets name cordless percussion drills, electric hammers, and impact hammers. They do not say every drill.

Lebahan 165 mm 25° tile chisel

Rank 3

Lebahan 165 mm 25° tile chisel

∼£13

Our view

The Lebahan M-16575 is a 165 × 75 mm SDS-Plus chisel with a stated 25° bend, listed at £12.99, and amazon.co.uk shows 4.5 from 560 reviews. UK texts include about 15 m² of floor tiles in about 30 minutes, a hallway plus a kitchen, and porcelain with adhesive, including a 4 m² adhesive job with little damage to the concrete floor. Reviewers say the angle gets behind wall and floor tiles and keeps knuckles clear. One buyer called it robust and still sharp after a large floor. The same file includes a shaft that broke inside the SDS chuck after about 30 minutes, with the broken piece stuck, and another bit that did not last 20 minutes. One reviewer found it too short, one said it did not lay flat, and one said it failed on very stubborn floor tiles and might suit medium adhesion. The included-components field prints NO, although the listing is one chisel. In this set it is the best value short blade: £3 more than the £9.99 HPMAISON, with a much larger review file, and the same class of shank left in the chuck.

Pros

  • 165 × 75 mm with a stated 25° bend at £12.99
  • UK reviews include about 15 m² of floor tiles in about 30 minutes
  • Porcelain and adhesive jobs, including a 4 m² concrete floor with little damage in one review
  • 4.5 from 560 amazon.co.uk reviews

Cons

  • A shaft broke inside the SDS chuck after about 30 minutes, and another bit failed inside 20 minutes
  • One reviewer found 165 mm too short
  • One edge did not lay flat, and very stubborn floor tiles beat it in another review
  • The included-components field says NO

Best for: A short 25° blade for a kitchen or hallway of ordinary ceramic, when you can return a shank that snaps in the chuck.

Less suitable: A floor that needs a 250 mm reach, or porcelain stuck so hard that a 165 mm edge cannot get under it.

Common questions

Does the listing say it removes old tiles?

The bullets say it is for removing tiles and tile adhesive residue. The size given is 165 × 75 mm.

Does it claim to fit all SDS-Plus hammers?

The bullets say standard hammers with SDS-Plus mounts, with no extra adapter.

What is in the box?

Nucraft 250 mm 15° tile chisel

Rank 4

Nucraft 250 mm 15° tile chisel

∼£14

Our view

The Nucraft SDS PLUS 250MM is a single 250 × 75 mm SDS-Plus chisel with a stated 15° bend and a stated 14 mm shank diameter, at £13.90, with 4.4 from 38 reviews. The bullets stress removing tiles from walls, while the UK texts describe floor tiles, including 1960s ceramic and cement-stuck tiles used on a wall. One reviewer cleared a whole room in about three hours, and another took four layers of bathroom tiles back to brick. A buyer wanted the 75 mm width for concrete splashes and said the blade does not bend, so it can chisel and lever. None of the ten UK texts reports a snap, one reviewer had not used it yet, and another notes it will not fit a normal drill. The included-components field says drill bits, and the dimension line lists the 7.5 cm width only. It is the long single blade in this set, and 38 ratings is a small file beside Lebahan's 560.

Pros

  • 250 × 75 mm with a stated 15° bend at £13.90
  • UK reviews include a room in about three hours and four layers of bathroom tiles back to brick
  • No snap in the ten UK texts read
  • 75 mm edge that one reviewer wanted for concrete splashes

Cons

  • Only 38 ratings, and one of the ten UK texts had not used the chisel yet
  • The bullets stress walls, so the floor question on the listing has no answer line
  • It does not fit a normal drill, and the included-components field says drill bits
  • A 14 mm shank diameter is printed; SDS-Plus and SDS-Max are different chucks

Best for: A longer 75 mm blade for a room of ceramic when you already have an SDS-Plus hammer and can accept a 38-review file.

Less suitable: A combi drill with a 13 mm chuck, or a buyer who wants hundreds of reviews before a £13.90 order.

Do the bullets mention floor tiles?

The floor-tile question has no answer line. The bullets say the chisel is very suitable for removing tiles from walls.

IVhomeshop two-piece bent set

Rank 5

IVhomeshop two-piece bent set

∼£13

Our view

The IVhomeshop listing is two SDS-Plus bent chisels, 160 × 75 mm and 275 × 75 mm, at £12.99, with 4.4 from 32 reviews. The bullets name 40Cr steel, drop forged and heat tempered, and one bullet also says Firecore on the same description. The bend is called angled, and the degrees are not stated. Only three UK review texts are in the file. One says the longer chisel chipped up about 40 m² of floor tiles and still looked new, and called the set good value. Another says both chisels broke at the SDS-Plus shank after about an hour in hard clay, the bits came out of the breaker, and the steel felt weak at the shank. Two lengths for the price of one Lebahan is the shelf offer, and three texts with a double break are too few to treat that as a reliable spare.

Pros

  • Two 75 mm blades, 160 mm and 275 mm, at £12.99
  • One UK review chipped about 40 m² of floor tiles with the longer blade
  • Bullets name old tiles, thinset, and adhesive

Cons

  • Both chisels broke at the SDS-Plus shank after about an hour in one of three UK texts
  • Only 32 ratings, and only three UK texts in the file
  • A bullet also says Firecore, and the unit count prints 1.0 on a two-piece title
  • The bend has no degree figure

Best for: A buyer who wants a short blade and a 275 mm blade in one box and will inspect both shanks before a hard floor.

Less suitable: Anyone who needs more than three UK texts before trusting a shank, or a chuck that is not SDS-Plus.

HPMAISON 185 mm bent tile chisel

Rank 6

HPMAISON 185 mm bent tile chisel

∼£10

Our view

The HPMAISON JY-8817 is a single SDS-Plus tile chisel, 185 × 75 × 17 mm with a stated 25° bend, listed at £9.99 on amazon.co.uk. The listing shows 4.3 from 375 reviews. UK texts read for this page describe kitchen and bathroom floor tiles coming up, and one reviewer preferred the curved edge to the straight chisel supplied with the drill when clearing glue after parquet. The same file includes snaps in the drill within about 20 minutes, within an hour, and after chasing eight soft blocks, and one buyer called the steel as soft as butter. Another found the edge was not flat, gouged the wall, and finished 20 m² by hand. A shank arrived bent, and Amazon accepted the return. One reviewer used a drill that only revolved, so the chisel did not work until the machine could hammer. It is the cheapest 75 mm blade in this set, and the repeated snap reports are the limit on treating £9.99 as a saving.

Pros

  • 185 × 75 × 17 mm with a stated 25° bend at £9.99
  • UK reviews include kitchen and bathroom floor tiles coming up
  • Curved bevel that one reviewer preferred to the drill's straight chisel for glue after parquet
  • 4.3 from 375 amazon.co.uk reviews

Cons

  • UK texts include snaps within about 20 minutes, within an hour, and after eight soft blocks
  • One edge was not flat and gouged the wall, so that buyer finished 20 m² by hand
  • A shank arrived bent
  • A drill that only rotates will not drive it

Best for: A short 75 mm trial on ceramic floor tiles when you already own an SDS-Plus hammer and can return a bit that snaps.

Less suitable: A large hard floor where a snapped shank in the chuck would stop the day, or a drill with no hammer action.

Common questions

Does the listing say this chisel can be used on wall tiles?

Yes. The bullets and the item highlight name floor tiles and wall tiles.

Will it fit every SDS drill?

The bullets say SDS-Plus impact drills. They do not say SDS-Max or a normal chuck.

What bend does the listing state?

The title and bullets state a 25° cranked shaft. The size line is 185 × 75 × 17 mm.

WORKPRO 165 mm bent tile chisel

Rank 7

WORKPRO 165 mm bent tile chisel

∼£12

Our view

The WORKPRO W042011A is a 165 × 75 mm SDS-Plus bent tile chisel at £11.99, with 4.2 from 196 amazon.co.uk reviews. UK texts describe floor tiles and adhesive coming up across a kitchen, family room, utility, hallway, and toilet, and one en-suite was faster than with the wrong tool. The bullets call the head cranked and do not state the angle in degrees. A technical cell says hand powered while the bullets say the bit fits most SDS-Plus rotary tools, and thickness is 10 mm in the bullets against 1.4 cm in the dimension line. One UK review says the shaft snapped after about an hour. Another found the edge was not cut straight and the material snapped while cutting out three boxes, and a third called the casting poor while the bit was still working. You get a compact 75 mm blade, with a spec page that disagrees with itself and a shank that has already failed in a UK review.

Pros

  • 165 × 75 mm SDS-Plus blade at £11.99
  • UK reviews cover floor tiles and adhesive across several rooms of one house
  • Cranked head that reviewers used on tiles and plaster
  • Safety instructions were in the pack for one reviewer

Cons

  • The shaft snapped after about an hour in a UK review
  • One edge was not cut straight, and the material snapped on three boxes
  • Bullets say 10 mm thick and the dimension line says 1.4 cm
  • The power-source cell says hand powered while the bullets say SDS-Plus

Best for: A compact 75 mm crank for floor tiles when you will check the SDS-Plus line and ignore the hand-powered cell.

Less suitable: A job that needs a stated bend in degrees, or a floor where you cannot afford a shank failure after about an hour.

Common questions

Does the listing say it removes floor tiles?

The floor-tile question has no answer line. The bullets include tile and laminate flooring.

What is it made from?

The technical table says alloy steel.

Why does the power field say hand powered?

That cell is in the technical table. The bullets say the chisel fits most SDS-Plus rotary tools. The two lines disagree.

How we compared

Seven SDS-Plus tile chisels stayed on this page from the amazon.co.uk snapshot dated 20 October 2026. Scores are editorial marks out of 100, not Amazon stars times 20, and there is no removal test and no laboratory score. Stars, review volume, the listing, UK review fit, and price add up to 100. A break in the chuck is a deduction, not a sixth weight. A 4.6 from 842 ratings is not proof that the shank will survive a floor.

1

Stars

30%

Amazon stars divided by 5, then times 30, rounded half up. The maximum is 30 points.

2

Review volume

15%

500 or more ratings score 14, 100 to 499 score 12, and 30 to 99 score 8, up to 15 points. Volume is capped so 842 ratings cannot outrank a cleaner tile file on count alone.

3

Listing

25%

Up to 25 points for a stated length, width, bend, and a spec page that agrees with itself. A 40 mm plus 100 mm pair, a missing degree figure, or a cell that clashes with the bullets scores lower.

4

UK fit

20%

Up to 20 points when UK review texts name tile jobs and do not repeat a defect. A shank left in the chuck, or a double break in a file of three texts, scores lower.

5

Price

Up to 10 points from the shelf price on this snapshot, as a rule of thumb for a 75 mm tile blade. £9.99 with a stated angle scores 9. £16 to £17 for a two-piece set scores 5.

Chisel tile buying guide

Match the shank, then the mode, then the width and the bend. A second blade is a spare length, not proof of stronger steel. If you only need to colour a grout line, a powered chisel is the wrong tool.

What is a tile chisel?

A tile chisel on this page is a wide, usually cranked steel blade on an SDS-Plus shank. A rotary hammer drives it in hammer-only mode so the edge can run under ceramic or porcelain and the adhesive. UK buyers are householders stripping a kitchen or bathroom, and tradespeople who already own an SDS-Plus hammer. You judge a bit by shank fit, the stated width and bend, and whether UK reviews show the tail surviving a real session. The chuck comes first.

Best for

  • Householders with an SDS-Plus hammer stripping a kitchen or bathroom of ceramic
  • Buyers who want a 75 mm crank and can return a snapped shank

Not ideal for

  • Floors that may be asbestos vinyl, thermoplastic tile, or bitumen adhesive
  • SDS-Max chucks, 13 mm combi drills, and plasterboard you hope to save

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

Ordering SDS-Plus for an SDS-Max chuck

Einhell UK puts SDS-Plus at 10 mm and SDS-Max at 18 mm. The two do not interchange, and a 13 mm combi chuck will not hold these bits either.

  2. 2

    Leaving rotary mode on

The rotary hammer needs a rotation stop. Duro’s tile-removal sheet says not to use the chisel on a machine that lacks hammer-only mode. Grease the shank so it does not overheat in the chuck.

  3. 3

    Attacking old vinyl tiles

HSE lists vinyl floor tiles, bitumen adhesive, and paper-backed sheet as materials that may contain asbestos. Sheet a23 says lift those tiles gently with a scraper and do not sand. An SDS chisel is outside that method.

What to weigh up

Chuck and hammer-only mode

High

The bit must be SDS-Plus. Einhell UK describes that shank as 10 mm and SDS-Max as 18 mm, and the two do not interchange. A 13 mm combi chuck will not hold the bits on this page. Every kept listing says SDS-Plus. A brand name in a bullet, such as DeWalt or Bosch, is an example of that system, not a promise that the bit fits every tool from that brand. Nucraft prints a 14 mm shank diameter, which matches neither figure, so the chuck check still comes first.

Width, bend, and the floor

High

About 40 mm is the narrow trade tile chisel. About 75 mm is the wide blade in this amazon.co.uk set. A stated crank of about 15° to 25° is there to run under the tile. Lebahan and HPMAISON state 25°. Nucraft states 15°. VonLux, WORKPRO, IVhomeshop, and Lytool call the head cranked or angled and do not state degrees. A 100 mm piece is a scaling blade, which is the wide half of the Lytool set, not a second 75 mm spade. A 165 mm head is compact. A 250 mm head reaches further.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Kitchen or bathroom floor

You already own an SDS-Plus hammer and want a short 75 mm blade plus a 250 mm spare for ceramic or porcelain. Fourteen UK texts on the VonLux set name bathroom tiles and a larger blade used for about five hours, with no repeated defect.

Short blade, large review file

You want one 165 × 75 mm blade with a stated 25° and 4.5 from 560 reviews, at £12.99. UK notes include about 15 m² in about 30 minutes and a shaft left in the chuck, so keep the return.

One longer 75 mm blade

You want 250 mm and a stated 15° for a room of ceramic, and you can accept a 38-review file. Ten UK texts include a room in about three hours and do not report a snap.

Common questions about chisel tiles

Which chisel tile is the top pick in 2026?
The VonLux two-piece set is the top pick. It is two SDS-Plus cranked blades, 165 × 75 mm and 250 × 75 mm, at about £16.90, with 4.6 from 121 amazon.co.uk reviews. Fourteen UK texts name bathroom tiles, a larger blade used for about five hours, and old adhesive on concrete, with no repeated defect. The crank has no degree figure, and the handle field says wood.
How much does a chisel tile cost?
On this amazon.co.uk snapshot, single 75 mm blades run from £9.99 to £13.90, and two-piece or mixed sets from £12.99 to £16.90. One room can start around £10 to £14 if you can return a snapped bit. Named trade chisels outside this set sit about £20 to £35. These are listed prices, not a market study. The £9.99 HPMAISON is not the best value, because three snap windows kept it off that award.
What should you check before you order?
Check the chuck first. These bits are SDS-Plus. SDS-Max is a different shank, and a 13 mm combi chuck will not hold them. The rotary hammer needs hammer-only mode, and the shank should be greased. Prefer a stated width and bend, usually about 75 mm and about 15° to 25°. Read UK reviews for a snapped shank. If the floor may be old vinyl or bitumen adhesive, stop and use HSE guidance.
Does SDS-Plus fit an SDS-Max hammer?
No. Einhell UK describes SDS-Plus as a 10 mm shank and SDS-Max as an 18 mm shank, and the two do not interchange. Every listing kept here says SDS-Plus. A brand name in a bullet means that brand's SDS-Plus hammers as examples, not every tool they sell. Nucraft prints a 14 mm shank diameter, so check the chuck before you rely on that line.
Does a high star rating mean the shank will not snap?
No. Lytool has 4.6 from 842 reviews, and a UK review still says the fixing end broke inside the drill after about 15 minutes. Lebahan has 4.5 from 560 reviews and a shaft left in the chuck after about 30 minutes. VonLux also has 4.6, from 121 reviews, and the 14 UK texts read do not repeat a shank snap. Volume is capped so a large star file cannot win on count alone.
What if the chisel snaps in the chuck?
Stop. A snapped shank is not a reason to keep hammering. The Consumer Rights Act 2015, section 9, covers satisfactory quality, including durability. How the 30-day right works on a faulty tool is set out in Faulty tool: the 30-day right. Photograph the bit and the chuck, and do not keep levering a cracked tail.
Can you use one of these on old vinyl tiles?
No. HSE lists vinyl floor tiles, bitumen adhesive, and paper-backed sheet as materials that may contain asbestos. Sheet a23 says lift those tiles gently with a scraper, wet them, and do not sand. An SDS chisel is outside that method. One VonLux review describes vinyl stuck with bitumen. That is a review, not a method. Call a professional if you have broken suspect tiles.
Is a bolster enough instead of an SDS chisel?
On a small solid wall, a bolster and a club hammer can be enough, and you may not need an SDS bit at all. A householder without a rotary hammer should cost the hammer before the bit. These seven listings will not run in a drill that only rotates. For a kitchen or bathroom floor of ceramic, the comparison assumes an SDS-Plus hammer in hammer-only mode. A steep angle gouges the screed, so keep the blade shallow.

Our verdict

The VonLux two-piece set is the top pick when you want 165 mm and 250 mm at 75 mm and a UK review file that does not repeat a shank snap. It is £16.90, with 4.6 from 121 reviews. Lebahan is the best value short blade: £12.99, a stated 25°, and 4.5 from 560 reviews, with a shaft left in the chuck in one UK text. The HPMAISON is £9.99 and scores 74, and three snap windows keep the cheapest blade off the best value award.
