Brushless cordless drill buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

You are fitting a flat-pack wardrobe, or putting plugs into a brick wall, and the badges on amazon.co.uk do not mean the same thing. This brushless cordless drill buying guide is the order of those decisions before a model name. The [Brushless cordless drill comparison](/hub/drilling-and-accessories/brushless-cordless-drill) ranks the ten listings. This page teaches the checks and does not crown a pick. Listings and UK review notes were read on 19 October 2026. Nobody drilled a test wall. Prices move. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What the job needs

A drill-driver spins, and a numbered clutch lets it slip before a screw strips. A combi adds a hammer for ordinary brick and block. An SDS rotary hammer is a different machine, and BS EN 62841-2-1 does not cover it. Flat-pack and light shelves sit in a roughly 40–50 Nm band used here as a rule of thumb. Drill and Bit puts a home combi around 40 to 60 Nm. Neither figure is a lab result for these listings. Chipboard and plasterboard can stay with a drill-driver. A 6 mm plug in ordinary brick needs a stated hammer and a masonry bit of the size on the plug packet. Bits in the bag do not create a hammer. The masonry page stays on that wall. Engineering brick, a lintel, or many large holes need an SDS tool this comparison does not sell.

What is in the box

A bare body is a saving only if you already own a pack and a charger for that platform. The Bosch Professional GSB 18V-65 body is about £84.99: drill and an L-BOXX, no battery and no charger. The WORX Nitro WX354.9 is about £208.15 and the title says bare tool only. Adding a pack and a charger can take either past a complete kit. The Bosch kit at about £199.98 puts two GBA 18V 5.0 Ah packs and a GAL 18V-40 charger in the box, a different purchase from the body with the same model name. Several about £25–£46 kits name batteries in the bullets while the included-components field is thinner. KELNOW’s bullets name two batteries and do not print an amp-hour. Who should skip a bare price is on the best brushless cordless drill page.

Torque and the voltage badge

Brushless does not grant torque. Quote the newton-metre line you can see. The Bosch GSB bullets say 65 Nm and a maximum-torque field says 55 Nm. The CEEIGOO title says 42 Nm and the torque fields say 45 Nm. Seller lines that claim twice the torque are copy. Which? notes that a higher voltage does not always mean more torque. A five-cell pack is about 18 V nominal and about 21 V when full and unloaded. Energy is volts times amp-hours. Shopbam’s arithmetic puts an 18 V 5.0 Ah pack at 90 Wh. A 21 V 2.0 Ah pack, if it is 18 V nominal, is about 36 Wh. Those sums are arithmetic, not a timed runtime. Several rows print a 10 mm chuck, the Worx rows print 13 mm, and the bare Bosch 175 mm cell is a head length.

Platform and review weight

A shared platform means the next tool uses the same pack. Bosch Professional AMPShare is the blue 18 V system. Green POWER FOR ALL packs do not belong on a blue GSB. Worx PowerShare, as these Worx bullets state it, is for Worx tools. A generic 21 V pack fits the drill it shipped with, unless the listing proves a fit. The Ginour Makita 18 V line is the seller’s claim, not a checked fit. A 5.0 from three reviews on the Bosch kit is not the same evidence as 4.4 from 2,216 on the Ginour, or 4.7 from 228 on the Worx WX355.1. Soft included bits are a bit fault, not a motor fault. The motor-type claim is on brushless versus brushed.

Common questions

How much torque do you need for flat-pack and shelves?
Use a roughly 40–50 Nm band as a rule of thumb. Drill and Bit puts a home combi around 40 to 60 Nm. Neither number is a lab result for these listings. If two figures appear, quote the one you can point at.
When do you need a hammer mode?
When the hole is a plug in ordinary brick or block. A drill-driver can polish the face. Masonry bits do not add a hammer the bullets never name. Engineering brick, a lintel, or many large holes are beyond a combi.
Is a bare tool cheaper once you add a battery and a charger?
Only if that platform is already on your shelf. The Bosch body at about £84.99 and the Worx Nitro at about £208.15 ship without a battery. The Bosch kit at about £199.98 includes two 5.0 Ah packs, so it is a different product from the bare body.
Is a 21 V drill more powerful than an 18 V drill?
The badge alone does not say so. About 21 V is often a full, unloaded reading of an 18 V nominal pack. An 18 V 5.0 Ah pack is 90 Wh. A 2.0 Ah pack at 18 V nominal is about 36 Wh. That is arithmetic, not a measured runtime.
Why do two torque numbers appear on one listing?
Some pages store a maximum-torque field and a bullet that disagree. Bosch GSB rows say 55 Nm and 65 Nm. CEEIGOO says 42 Nm in the title and 45 Nm in the fields. These drills were not measured here, so neither line is treated as a lab figure.
What is a shared battery platform, and what is a generic 21 V pack?
A platform is a pack that fits a family of tools. Blue Bosch Professional 18 V is AMPShare. Green POWER FOR ALL is a different Bosch system. Worx PowerShare fits Worx. A generic 21 V pack fits the drill it came with. The Ginour Makita line is a seller claim.
