Stainless steel pipe cutters

The best stainless steel pipe cutters, compared.

Top pick: RIDGID 35S stainless tube cutter – Highest score, for a named stainless wheel on tube inside 35 mm. Best value: LIBRATON 5–50 mm – The value block peaks here, at about £25.99, for an occasional tube around 40 mm. Updated October 2026.

A stainless steel pipe cutter is a hand-powered wheel. The round tube sits between a cutting wheel and rollers or bearings. You add a little feed and rotate the tool until the wall parts. It does not saw a kerf, so the end can be slightly reduced or raised, and an inside lip still has to come off. UK shoppers use these frames for thin handrail, chrome poles, loft-bed legs, and for copper or aluminium when the diameter fits. Stars are the amazon.co.uk total, not a stainless test. How to choose is set out in the [stainless steel pipe cutter buying guide](/hub/cutting-tools/stainless-steel-pipe-cutter/sub/stainless-steel-pipe-cutter-buying-guide).

The best stainless steel pipe cutters in detail

RIDGID 35S stainless tube cutter

Rank 1

RIDGID 35S stainless tube cutter

∼£65

Our view

The RIDGID 35S, catalogue 29963, is the stainless-wheel cutter in this set for tube inside its printed range: the bullet says 6–35 mm and the item-type line also says 5–35 mm, both left as printed. It is about £64.97, with 4.8 from 1,668 reviews, six bearings in place of rollers, and a stainless cutter wheel. In the 35 UK reviews, buyers report clean cuts on stainless tube, including short 9 mm pieces with 1 mm wall, 19 mm tube, and stainless and carbon pipe for heating work, when the knob is tightened a little at a time. A spare wheel in the knob is a review report, not an included-components line, and no deburrer is listed. Bearing wheels rusted overnight on a bench in one account, the reviewer says they are not stainless, and overtightening leaves bearing marks. The amazon weight is 227 g and RIDGID’s catalogue table says 0.40 kg. It does not open to 42.4 mm handrail, so the top pick in this set is the wrong frame for that rail.

Pros

  • Stainless cutter wheel, with six bearings named on the listing
  • Bullet capacity 6–35 mm, kept beside the item-type line of 5–35 mm
  • UK reviews include 1 mm wall stainless and heating pipe when the feed stays light
  • 4.8 from 1,668 reviews on amazon.co.uk
  • Spare wheel reported in the knob

Cons

  • Stops at 35 mm, so it cannot start a 42.4 mm rail
  • No deburrer listed
  • Bearing wheels rusted overnight when left on a bench, in one UK review
  • Amazon weight 227 g against a catalogue figure of 0.40 kg

Best for: Repeated stainless tube inside the printed range, including small system tube where a square cut matters and you already own a deburrer.

Less suitable: 42.4 mm or 48.3 mm handrail, one curtain pole, or a tool you will leave wet on the bench.

Common questions

What cutting range does the RIDGID 35S listing print?

The bullet says 6 mm to 35 mm (1/4 inch to 1-3/8 inch). The item-type line says 5 mm to 35 mm. Both figures are printed. No wall thickness is on this listing.

Is a deburrer or a spare wheel listed?

No deburrer is listed. The included-components line says the 35S tubing cutter. UK reviews report a spare wheel stored in the knob. The listing weight is 227 g.

What wheel and bearings does the listing specify?

The bullets say a stainless steel cutter wheel with bearings in the hub, and six bearings in place of rollers.

XUNTUI 5–50 mm pipe cutter

Rank 2

XUNTUI 5–50 mm pipe cutter

∼£21

Our view

The XUNTUI lists 5–50 mm, names stainless steel alongside copper, brass and aluminium without a wall, and the included line lists a deburrer plus an M2 HSS blade and an SKD11 blade, at about £20.99. The listing is 4.7 from 187 reviews. Eight UK reviews are on the listing, and none of them states a fault: chrome storage-shelf tubes were cut so the end caps still fitted, a metal loft-bed section came out in about 20 minutes, and one person cut 100 round aluminium spindles at 19 mm and praised the deburrer. Steel curtain poles are in that sample. What is not in it is a stainless wall, or a failed cut, so the 4.7 is not a stainless test. The item model XT600618 and the part number XT600616 do not match. The knob is printed at 37 mm. For an occasional tube inside 50 mm, the spare blades are on the spec line, which several cheaper titles only claim.

Pros

  • 5–50 mm range, with a deburrer and two spare blades on the included line
  • SKD11 blade claimed at 62–64 HRC
  • Eight UK reviews, and none states a fault
  • Loft-bed section removed in about 20 minutes in one account
  • 4.7 from 187 reviews on the amazon.co.uk listing

Cons

  • Stainless is named with no wall in millimetres
  • The eight UK reviews do not describe a stainless cut
  • Model XT600618 and part number XT600616 do not match
  • A 50 mm maximum is only 1.7 mm past 48.3 mm rail

Best for: An occasional steel pole, shelf tube or loft-bed leg inside 50 mm, where you want the spare blades written on the spec line.

Less suitable: Repeated stainless work that needs a named stainless wheel, or a 48.3 mm rail you want more than 1.7 mm of opening past the tube.

Common questions

What does the XUNTUI included-components line list?

One bearing pipe cutter, one deburring tool, one M2 HSS blade and one SKD11 blade. A case is not listed.

Which model number is printed?

The item model number is XT600618. The part number is XT600616.

Does the listing state a stainless wall?

No. Stainless steel is named with copper, brass and aluminium alloy. The title range is 5–50 mm, and no millimetre wall is printed.

RIDGID 65S stainless tube cutter

Rank 3

RIDGID 65S stainless tube cutter

∼£90

Our view

The RIDGID 65S, catalogue 31803, is the larger stainless-wheel cutter, at about £90.00 with 4.6 from 683 reviews and 12 bearings. The bullet says 6–67 mm and the included-components line says 6–65 mm. In the 45 UK reviews, one buyer cut 316 stainless handrail at 42.4 mm outside diameter and 2 mm wall in about a dozen rotations, and another cut 40 mm stainless balustrade at 3 mm wall, ten posts in half an hour, then rasped a slight internal pinch so the caps fitted. The same sample includes a wheel that broke after a few cuts on 40 mm stainless, a pin that keeps working loose, marks on polished handrail that would not buff out, and a long arm, described as aluminium, that fractured after the guarantee had just expired. The listing does not print a wall. RIDGID’s 65S instruction sheet states outside diameter 6–65 mm and wall up to 1/8 inch (3 mm), which is a different document from the 67 mm bullet. Amazon’s item weight is 500 g and that sheet says 0.68 kg. No deburrer is listed.

Pros

  • Stainless cutter wheel and 12 bearings, on a frame that opens past 42.4 mm
  • UK review of 316 handrail at 42.4 mm by 2 mm, in about a dozen rotations
  • 40 mm by 3 mm stainless balustrade cut in the same sample
  • 4.6 from 683 reviews on amazon.co.uk

Cons

  • Bullet says 6–67 mm and the box line says 6–65 mm
  • Wheels broke on a short run of 40 mm stainless, and the pin works loose
  • Polished handrail was marked, and the marks would not buff out
  • No deburrer listed; one arm, described as aluminium, fractured

Best for: Round stainless past 35 mm, including 42.4 mm rail, when you want wheel E-635 and can accept roller marks on a mirror polish.

Less suitable: One curtain pole, plastic pipe, or a polished rail that must stay unmarked.

Common questions

What cutting range does the RIDGID 65S listing print?

The bullet says 6 mm to 67 mm (1/4 inch to 2-5/8 inch). The included-components line says 6–65 mm. Both figures are printed. No wall thickness is on this listing.

What do UK reviews say about polished handrail?

One reviewer cut 42.4 mm by 2 mm 316 tube cleanly. Another said polished stainless handrail was marked, the cut tapered, and the marks would not buff out.

Is a deburrer included?

No deburrer and no spare wheel are listed. The bullets specify 12 bearings and a stainless steel cutter wheel. The listing weight is 500 g.

Gunpla 3–42 mm pipe cutter

Rank 4

Gunpla 3–42 mm pipe cutter

∼£19

Our view

The Gunpla covers 3–42 mm, names thin stainless, and claims a spare wheel and a slide-out deburrer, at about £18.98 with 4.5 from 99 reviews. In the 16 UK texts, one buyer cut a 36 mm curtain pole, another severed 30 mm steel tube with 1 mm wall in under a minute, and a third got through a 1 inch chromoly bicycle steerer when the feed stayed light. The same sample says the tool struggled with 8 mm stainless tubing, with no wall given, and that the cutting wheel wobbles about 1 mm either side of the line. One reviewer says it broke within two weeks on steel conduit after cutting well at first, and another had the body come apart when the spare disc was changed unless an M6 nut was added as a washer. The packaging instructions were mostly gibberish in one report. A 42 mm maximum still sits under a 42.4 mm handrail, so this frame cannot start that rail.

Pros

  • 3–42 mm range, wide enough for a 36 mm curtain pole in the UK sample
  • Spare wheel claimed in the title, and found in the handle by reviewers
  • Slide-out deburrer named in the title
  • 1 mm wall steel tube parted in under a minute in one UK review

Cons

  • Stops at 42 mm, short of 42.4 mm handrail
  • Wheel wobble of about 1 mm spoiled fine brass slices
  • Broke within two weeks on steel conduit in one report
  • Changing the spare disc let the body come apart unless a washer was added

Best for: A curtain pole or thin steel tube inside 42 mm, if you keep the feed light and check the wheel is tight on its axle.

Less suitable: 42.4 mm rail, 8 mm stainless of an unstated wall, or a job that needs the spare disc changed without the frame coming apart.

Common questions

What cutting range does the Gunpla listing state?

The bullet says 3–42 mm, also printed as 1/8 inch to 1 3/4 inch. Thin stainless, copper, brass and PVC are named. No wall thickness is printed.

Is a spare wheel included?

The title and one bullet claim a replacement cutting wheel and a deburring tool. There is no included-components line. UK reviews report a spare blade in the tightening handle.

What is the body made of?

A bullet says heat-treated zinc alloy steel. The item weight on the listing is 590 g.

LIBRATON 911210 6–70 mm pipe cutter

Rank 5

LIBRATON 911210 6–70 mm pipe cutter

∼£38

Our view

The LIBRATON 911210 is the wider frame: the title says 6–70 mm and a bullet says up to 70 mm without repeating a 6 mm minimum, at about £37.99 with 4.4 from 993 reviews. It still says thin stainless. In the 23 UK reviews, one buyer cut 316 stainless at 42 mm outside diameter and 2 mm wall for more than 20 cuts on the original wheel, another preferred 42 mm handrail to an angle grinder, and a third cut 48.3 mm galvanised steel pipe at 2 mm wall, 24 cuts in an hour. The same sample includes 42 mm, 54 mm and 67 mm copper, and on 67 mm copper the wheel tended to cut a thread rather than part the pipe. No spare blade is in the box, the blue rubber inserts fall out, and one wheel developed a defect in use. Item weight is 1.18 kg. This is the mid-price frame whose printed range can see 48.3 mm, and the maker still does not state a wall for stainless.

Pros

  • Title range 6–70 mm, the mid frame that can see 48.3 mm rail
  • UK review of 316 tube at 42 mm by 2 mm, more than 20 cuts on one wheel
  • 48.3 mm galvanised pipe at 2 mm wall, 24 cuts in an hour, in one review
  • Deburrer claimed, though one reviewer called it flimsy

Cons

  • Thin stainless, with no wall printed by the maker
  • Bullet states a 70 mm maximum and does not repeat the 6 mm minimum
  • No spare blade in the box
  • Rubber inserts fall out, and 67 mm copper tended to cut a thread

Best for: An occasional round rail at 42.4 mm or 48.3 mm when you want a wider frame than 50 mm and can live with thin stainless as the only wall words.

Less suitable: A named stainless wheel, a spare in the box, or 67 mm copper if the last review of a thread-like cut matches your pipe.

Common questions

What outside diameter does the LIBRATON 911210 listing state?

The title says 6–70 mm. The bullet says up to 2-3/4 inch (70 mm) and does not repeat a 6 mm minimum. Copper, aluminium and thin stainless are named. No wall thickness is printed.

Is a spare blade included?

No spare blade is listed. UK reviews say none was in the box. A deburring tool is described as attached.

Why does the Best Sellers Rank match the 5–50 mm Libraton?

Both listings print 8,363 in DIY & Tools and 10 in Pipe Cutters. That is the line as captured.

LIBRATON 900915 5–50 mm pipe cutter

Rank 6

LIBRATON 900915 5–50 mm pipe cutter

∼£26

Our view

The LIBRATON 900915 is a 5–50 mm hand cutter at about £25.99, 4.3 from 2,783 reviews, and the bullet still says thin stainless rather than a wall in millimetres. In the 49 UK reviews, buyers cut a 40 mm handrail and staircase railing, and one person cut 30 sections of stainless pipe in under 30 minutes. The same sample includes chrome wardrobe poles, a 32 mm steel hanging rail, 25 mm steel conduit and loft-bed legs, with a deburrer used on the inside of the tube. The limits are in that sample too: the blade walked on an aluminium bicycle steerer and left a raised outside, PVC waste pipe bent or was only marked, the screw can work out of the handle, and one cutter failed after about three weeks. A bullet calls the blade aluminium alloy. The frame is the one UK reviews use around 40–42 mm, and it does not open to 48.3 mm rail. Both Libraton listings print the same rank line, 8,363 in DIY & Tools and 10 in Pipe Cutters, so that rank is not a separate test.

Pros

  • 5–50 mm range, used on about 40 mm handrail in the UK sample
  • Deburrer claimed, and used on the inside of the tube in reviews
  • 30 stainless sections cut in under 30 minutes in one UK review
  • 4.3 from 2,783 reviews, the largest count in this set
  • About £25.99, below the trade stainless frames

Cons

  • Listing says thin stainless and does not print a wall
  • Blade line says aluminium alloy
  • Blade can walk off the line, and the screw can work out of the handle
  • Does not open to 48.3 mm rail

Best for: An occasional round tube around 40–42 mm, including thin handrail, if you can accept that the wall is still the words thin stainless.

Less suitable: A named stainless wheel, a stated wall, 48.3 mm rail, or PVC waste pipe that collapses under the feed.

Common questions

What outside diameter does the LIBRATON 900915 listing state?

The bullet says 5–50 mm outer diameter, also printed as 3/16 inch to 2 inch, for aluminium, copper and thin stainless steel tube. No wall thickness is printed.

Does it include a deburrer or a spare blade?

A deburring tool is described as attached. No spare blade and no case are listed. PVC is named on the deburrer bullet, not as a cut material.

What do the UK reviews say about the cut?

Reviewers report clean cuts on curtain poles, conduit and 40 mm handrail. Others report a thin lip or slight compression, a blade that walked on an aluminium steerer, and PVC that squashed under the feed.

Wostore FTZ01103 3–35 mm pipe cutter

Rank 7

Wostore FTZ01103 3–35 mm pipe cutter

Our view

The Wostore FTZ01103 is a 230 g hand cutter whose bullet covers 3–35 mm outside diameter and names thin-walled stainless, copper, brass, aluminium, PVC and PE. In the 14 UK reviews behind a 4.0 from 17, buyers report clean cuts on 15 mm and 22 mm copper, 32 mm waste pipe, and hard-drawn refrigeration copper from 3/8 inch to 7/8 inch, with a fold-out reamer and a spare blade screwed into the handle. One review says the blade would not cut, and gives no further detail. The included-components line says only pipe cutter, while the title and a bullet add the spare blade and the reamer. There is no quick-slide, so a change of diameter means winding the thread, and one reviewer found the frame too bulky for a tight repair on the pipe. No UK review in the sample states a stainless wall in millimetres, so the thin-wall line stays the listing’s words. At about £9.29 it is the lowest shelf price in this set, and the description clash is the reason to check the box on arrival.

Pros

  • Bullet range 3–35 mm, with thin-walled stainless named
  • UK reviews describe a spare blade in the handle and a fold-out reamer
  • Clean cuts on 15 mm and 22 mm copper in the UK sample
  • Aluminium body listed at 230 g
  • Lowest shelf price in this set, at about £9.29

Cons

  • Included-components line says pipe cutter only
  • One UK review says the blade would not cut
  • No millimetre wall, and no stainless cut in the UK sample
  • Bulky for a tight in-situ repair; diameter changes are on the thread

Best for: A bench cut on copper, PVC or a thin tube inside 35 mm, if you can return a tool whose box does not match the title.

Less suitable: A 42.4 mm rail, a press-fit stainless system, or a repair where you cannot swing the frame.

Common questions

What outside diameter does the Wostore listing state?

The bullet says 1/8 inch to 1-3/8 inch, also printed as 3 mm to 35 mm. It names thin-walled stainless and does not print a wall thickness.

Does the listing include a spare blade?

The title and a bullet say an extra blade and a fold-away reamer. The included-components line says only pipe cutter. UK reviews describe a spare blade in the top of the handle.

Is a storage case listed?

No. A customer question on the listing asks about a case. The bullets and the technical block do not include one.

Wuandjun 5–50 mm pipe cutter

Rank 8

Wuandjun 5–50 mm pipe cutter

∼£18

Our view

The Wuandjun, model ZCSQGQ-01, is a 540 g cutter listed at 5–50 mm outside diameter, with a high-carbon chromium blade, a dual-row of six rollers, a silicone knob and a deburrer on the included-components line. The bullet names copper, aluminium, thin stainless and PVC, and it does not print a wall. Both amazon.co.uk reviews, a 4.0 from two, and neither marked as a verified purchase on the listing, describe clean cuts: one on household copper where the deburrer saved a sandpaper pass, the other on plastic, copper or steel tube, with a spare set of blades that the spec line does not list. Both say the frame is bulky where the space is tight. There is no stainless thickness in either text. First available is 1 August 2026, so the sample is two opinions on a new listing. At about £17.77 you pay more than the £9.29 Wostore for a wider frame and a listed deburrer, on evidence that does not yet show a stainless cut.

Pros

  • Printed range 5–50 mm, so the frame opens past 42.4 mm on the listing
  • Deburrer is on the included-components line
  • Dual-row of six rollers is named, against a spiral cut
  • Both UK reviews report clean cuts on household copper

Cons

  • Only two reviews, and neither is marked verified on the listing
  • No stainless wall, and no stainless cut described
  • Both reviews call the frame bulky in a confined space
  • A spare blade set appears in one review and not on the spec line

Best for: Someone who wants a 5–50 mm frame and a listed deburrer for copper, and can accept a two-review sample.

Less suitable: Repeated stainless work, a tight cupboard, or a 48.3 mm rail where 50 mm is only 1.7 mm past the tube.

Common questions

What range and materials does the Wuandjun listing name?

The bullet says 5 mm to 50 mm outer diameter, for copper, aluminium, thin stainless steel and PVC. No wall thickness is printed.

Is a deburring tool in the box?

Yes. The included-components line lists one deburring tool with the cutter. It does not list a spare blade. One of the two UK reviews says a spare set of blades was in the box.

Do the reviews mention tight spaces?

Both UK reviews say the frame is bulky in a confined space. The listing does not give a swing radius.

How we compared

Scores use the amazon.co.uk listing fields and the UK review texts already in this set. There is no lab cut, and no star rating borrowed from another shop. Prices were left as captured on 15 October 2026. The four blocks below sum to 100. Deductions for a thin review sample, a broken tool, or two diameter figures that disagree sit outside those weights.

1

Review evidence

35%

Star points are the amazon.co.uk rating divided by 5, multiplied by 20, and rounded. Sample points rise with the review count, up to 15 once a listing has 35 or more reviews. A listing with no review line scores 0 on this block.

2

Printed specification

25%

Points only for fields the listing prints: a stainless wheel or a thin-stainless phrase, one consistent diameter, a bearing or roller count, a deburrer, and a spare blade on the included-components line.

3

Review sentiment

25%

An editorial reading of the UK review themes. Higher where the sample names stainless cuts and a limit. Lower where the sample is two reviews, or where the cuts are copper and poles with no stainless wall.

4

Price against that evidence

15%

Specification plus sentiment, divided by the GBP shelf price, then capped. Fewer than five reviews, a title that the included line contradicts, or a broken tool in a small UK sample, caps this block further. The lowest shelf price does not win it on its own.

Stainless steel pipe cutter buying guide

Match the frame to the outside diameter before you look at the star line. Thin stainless is a phrase on a listing, not a wall in millimetres. A named stainless wheel, a published bearing count, and a spare that is actually on the included line are the differences between a trade cutter and a copper-style frame in this set.

What is a stainless steel pipe cutter?

A stainless steel pipe cutter in this comparison is a hand-powered wheel tube cutter. The round tube sits between a cutting wheel and rollers or bearings. You add a little feed and rotate the tool until the wall parts. It does not saw out a kerf, so the end can be slightly reduced or raised, and an inside lip still has to come off.

Best for

  • A householder cutting one chrome pole, loft-bed leg, or bike bar
  • Someone fitting round balustrade at 42.4 mm or 48.3 mm
  • A heating engineer who needs a square cut on small system tube

Not ideal for

  • Square, rectangular, or mitred rail
  • Press-fit drinking water or gas that needs a pressure test
  • A copper autocut used on stainless because it is already in the box

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

Reading nominal bore as outside diameter

A 15 mm copper pipe is not a 15 mm outside diameter. Round handrail at 42.4 mm or 48.3 mm needs a frame that opens past that size. The RIDGID 35S stops at 35 mm, and the Gunpla stops at 42 mm.

  2. 2

Using the copper slice on stainless

A copper autocut is a different tool. UK listings of Monument’s copper slice say it is not for stainless steel. Stainless work-hardens, and a soft-copper wheel can raise the outside and skate on the next pass.

  3. 3

Treating thin stainless as 2 mm

Thin stainless on a Libraton or Wostore listing is not a millimetre. Do not turn it into 2 mm or 2.5 mm unless that listing says so. Cranking the knob ovalises the tube, walks the wheel, or work-hardens the end.

What to weigh up

Outside diameter

High

Start with the outside diameter the frame will open, not the nominal bore printed on a copper pipe. A 15 mm copper pipe is not a 15 mm outside diameter. Round handrail at 42.4 mm or 48.3 mm, the sizes Leengate Metals lists, needs a frame that opens past that tube. In this set the RIDGID 35S bullet is 6–35 mm and the item-type line also says 5–35 mm, so that cutter cannot start a 42.4 mm rail. The Gunpla stops at 42 mm, which is still short of 42.4 mm.

Wall, wheel, and a spare

High

Thin stainless on a Libraton or Wostore listing is not a millimetre. Do not turn it into 2 mm unless that listing says 2 mm. The XUNTUI names stainless with no wall figure. RIDGID’s 65S instruction sheet states outside diameter 6–65 mm and wall up to 1/8 inch (3 mm). That sheet conflicts with the 67 mm figure on the amazon bullet, so quote both and leave the listing as printed. Stainless work-hardens.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

One pole or a loft-bed leg

You have one chrome pole, a loft-bed leg, or a bike bar. You want a frame that covers that outside diameter, and a file if the deburrer is poor. The Libraton 5–50 mm is the best value here for an occasional round tube around 40 mm. The listing still says thin stainless.

Round balustrade

You are fitting round balustrade around 42.4 mm by 2 mm. You need capacity past 42.4 mm, and you should expect roller marks on mirror polish. The RIDGID 65S is the stainless-wheel frame in this set that opens past that rail. UK reviews include a clean 42.4 mm by 2 mm 316 cut, and marks that would not buff out.

System tube

You are cutting Mapress-type system tube and you need a square cut, a proper deburr, and no abrasive disc on that system. The joint and the pressure test are not the cutter. The RIDGID 35S is the top pick for repeated stainless inside a range that stops at 35 mm. It does not reach 42.4 mm rail.

Common questions about stainless steel pipe cutters

Which stainless steel pipe cutter is the top pick in this set?
The top pick is the RIDGID 35S at about £64.97. The bullet says 6–35 mm and the item-type line also says 5–35 mm. It names a stainless cutter wheel and six bearings, and the amazon.co.uk line is 4.8 from 1,668 reviews. UK reviews include stainless tube, including short pieces with 1 mm wall, when the feed stays light. It does not open to 42.4 mm handrail. There was no lab cut.
How much does a stainless steel pipe cutter cost on amazon.co.uk?
On these eight amazon.co.uk shelves, prices on 15 October 2026 run from about £9.29 to £90.00. Entry, about £9 to £21, is Wostore, Wuandjun, Gunpla, and XUNTUI. Mid, about £26 to £38, is the Libraton 5–50 mm at about £25.99 and the 6–70 mm at about £37.99. Trade stainless is the RIDGID 35S at about £64.97 and the 65S at about £90.00. These bands are this set, not a national average.
What should I check before I buy a stainless steel pipe cutter?
Check outside diameter, not the nominal bore. A 15 mm copper pipe is not a 15 mm outside diameter, and 42.4 mm or 48.3 mm handrail needs a frame that opens past that size. Then read the wall words. Thin stainless is not a millimetre. A named stainless wheel is a different claim from a copper cutter that also lists stainless. Deburr the end before a fitting sees it. Stars are not a stainless test.
Can I use a copper pipe cutter on stainless steel?
A copper autocut is a different tool. UK listings of Monument’s copper slice say it is not for use on stainless steel. Stainless work-hardens. A dull wheel, or a wheel made for soft copper, rubs, raises the outside diameter, and can harden the groove so the next pass skates. A copper tool already in the box is not a stainless cutter. Match the wheel to the metal.
Which cutter opens past 42.4 mm stainless handrail?
Round handrail at 42.4 mm or 48.3 mm needs a frame that opens past that size. The RIDGID 35S stops at 35 mm, and the Gunpla stops at 42 mm, short of 42.4 mm. The Libraton 5–50 mm is used around 40 mm in UK reviews and does not open to 48.3 mm. The Libraton 6–70 mm and the RIDGID 65S are the frames here whose printed range can see 48.3 mm. The 65S can mark polished handrail.
Does thin stainless mean a 2 mm wall?
No. Thin stainless on a Libraton or Wostore listing is the listing’s words, not a wall in millimetres. Do not turn it into 2 mm unless that listing says 2 mm. Leengate Metals lists round handrail at 42.4 mm and 48.3 mm, commonly 2 mm or 2.5 mm wall, which is a tube size, not a cutter limit. RIDGID’s 65S instruction sheet states wall up to 1/8 inch (3 mm). That sheet is not the 67 mm amazon bullet.
When should I call a professional instead of cutting the tube myself?
Call a professional for press-fit drinking water, gas, or any system that needs a pressure test, and for load-bearing or glazed balustrade. A wheel cutter is for round tube. It does not cut square rail, and it is not a sheet tool. If the job is stainless sheet, a Stahlwerk plasma cutter is a separate comparison. It does not make a square tube end for a press fitting.
Do I have to deburr the cut end?
Yes, before a fitting sees the end. On Geberit Mapress stainless system pipe, the GB installation guide requires a complete square cut, a deburr inside and outside, and a pipe end free of swarf. Abrasive cut-off wheels and flame cutting are inadmissible on that system because the heat is uncontrolled. That is the system maker’s rule, not a ban on every disc in a garage. The cutter itself does not carry a drinking-water approval.

Our verdict

The top pick is the RIDGID 35S at about £64.97, the highest score in this set, for repeated stainless tube inside a printed range that stops at 35 mm. The best value is the LIBRATON 5–50 mm at about £25.99, where the value block peaks, for an occasional round tube around 40 mm while the listing still says thin stainless. The £9.29 Wostore is the lowest shelf price and is not the best value, because the included-components line says pipe cutter only while the title claims a spare blade. If you need 42.4 mm rail, skip the 35S and use a frame that opens past that size.
