Stainless steel pipe cutter buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You have a round stainless tube and a row of hand wheel cutters that look alike. A stainless steel pipe cutter buying guide only helps if it tells you which check to fail first. The Products Compared editorial team read the eight amazon.co.uk listings in this set, prices captured on 15 October 2026, and did not run a lab cut. A qualifying purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Rows and prices sit on the [stainless steel pipe cutter comparison](/hub/cutting-tools/stainless-steel-pipe-cutter). Check outside diameter, then wall, then the wheel, then deburr, spare and swing. Stars come after those.

Measure the outside diameter, not the name on the tube

Size the frame from the outside diameter you measure, not from the name on a copper pipe. A 15 mm copper pipe is a nominal bore, and its outside is larger than 15 mm. Round handrail is commonly 42.4 mm or 48.3 mm. A cutter that stops at 35 mm cannot start a 42.4 mm rail, and a cutter marked 42 mm is still short of 42.4 mm. The 35S bullet says 6–35 mm and the item-type line says 5–35 mm. The 65S bullet says 6–67 mm and the included line says 6–65 mm. Frames past 42.4 mm are the 5–50 mm models, the LIBRATON whose title says 6–70 mm, and the 65S.

Keep wall thickness as a number, or as thin stainless

The next failure is a wall the listing never printed. Thin stainless on a Wostore or Libraton line is not 2 mm and not 2.5 mm. Leengate Metals lists round handrail commonly at 2 mm or 2.5 mm. The document in this set that states a wall is the RIDGID 65S instruction sheet: outside diameter 6–65 mm and wall up to 1/8 inch (3 mm). That sheet conflicts with the 67 mm amazon bullet. Do not copy up to 3 mm onto Libraton, Wostore, Gunpla, or XUNTUI.

Name the wheel, then ask where the spare is

A dull wheel, or a wheel made for soft copper, rubs, can raise the outside diameter, and can harden the groove. RIDGID’s stainless models use wheel E-635, catalogue 29973, on the 35S and the 65S. A listing that only says thin stainless has not named that wheel. If a copper slice is already in your box, the copper cutter page keeps the warning. Wostore’s title claims an extra blade, and the included line says pipe cutter only. XUNTUI’s included line lists an M2 blade and an SKD11 blade. Reviews of the 6–70 mm Libraton say no extra blade is supplied.

Plan the deburr, then check you can swing the frame

A wheel cutter does not saw a kerf. The end can be slightly reduced or raised, and an inside lip has to come off. On Geberit Mapress system pipe the GB guide requires a square cut, a deburr inside and outside, and no swarf. Abrasive cut-off is inadmissible on that system. HSE’s EIS16 is why you deburr a sharp edge. Wide frames are the ones UK reviews call bulky in a cupboard. Wuandjun’s two reviews both say so. Listing weight is not that swing: the 35S line says 227 g against a catalogue 0.40 kg, and the 65S line says 500 g against a sheet figure of 0.68 kg.

Let the failed check decide the shelf

One curtain pole or a loft-bed leg can stay in the entry band, about £9 to £21, if the outside diameter fits. A cutter sold as able to cut stainless, which only marks the tube, is a description problem under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Past 42.4 mm, the 35S is the wrong shelf. Square tube or a mitre is a hacksaw. The best stainless steel pipe cutter page names that skip. Mid band is the LIBRATON 5–50 mm at about £25.99 and the 6–70 mm at about £37.99. Only the 70 mm frame can see 48.3 mm. Trade is the 35S at about £64.97 and the 65S at about £90.00. At work, PUWER covers hand tools and does not make a private purchase an employer’s duty. Roller marks are on the handrail guide.

Common questions

Do I size the cutter from the nominal bore or from the outside diameter?
Size it from the outside diameter you measure. A frame that stops at 35 mm, or at 42 mm, does not open onto 42.4 mm rail.
Is a 15 mm copper pipe a 15 mm outside diameter?
No. In UK heating sizes, 15 mm, 22 mm and 28 mm are nominal copper sizes. The outside is larger than the name. Confirm the outside on the tube, then match it to the cutter’s printed range.
What wall will the frame cut if the listing only says thin stainless?
It has not told you a wall. Thin stainless on Wostore, Gunpla, Wuandjun and both Libraton listings is the phrase, not 2 mm and not 2.5 mm. The 65S instruction sheet states a wall up to 3 mm (1/8 inch) at 6–65 mm. Do not copy that figure across.
Which wheel is the stainless one, and do I need a spare?
In this set the named stainless wheel is RIDGID E-635, catalogue 29973, on the 35S and the 65S. A listing that only says thin stainless has not named that part.
Does a wheel cut still need an inside and outside deburr?
Yes, if a fitting or a hand will meet the end. The wheel parts the wall instead of sawing a kerf, so an inside lip remains. On Mapress stainless system pipe, Geberit’s GB guide requires a square cut, a deburr inside and outside, and no swarf.
Why leave the 35S on the shelf if it is a named stainless cutter?
Leave it when the tube is larger than 35 mm, which includes 42.4 mm handrail, or when the job is one curtain pole. Inside its printed range it is the frame for repeated stainless work.
