Mass air flow sensor comparison 2026

The best mass air flow sensors, compared.

Top pick: TUCKBOLD Cruze MAF Best value: HouYeen 8V21 MAF – About £19.99 for the later Ford number 8V21-12B579-AA, with 3.9 from 59 reviews. It is a different suffix from the top pick. Updated October 2026.

Kevin B.Editor

A mass air flow sensor tells the engine computer how much air is entering so it can set fuel and, on many diesels, exhaust-gas recirculation. If the car has a flat spot, a rough idle, smoke or a warning light after a code such as or, the replacement has to match the old sensor's number, pins and housing. Cheaper meters have the most ratings and still attract early-failure comments. Whether the lamp means a new sensor is set out in the [mass air flow sensor symptoms](/hub/car-parts/mass-air-flow-sensor/sub/mass-air-flow-sensor-symptoms) guide.

A mass air flow sensor tells the engine computer how much air is entering so it can set fuel and, on many diesels, exhaust-gas recirculation.

The best mass air flow sensors in detail

TUCKBOLD Cruze MAF

Rank 1

TUCKBOLD Cruze MAF

∼£33

Our view

The TUCKBOLD unit is a 5-pin, 210 g assembly at £33.49 for Chevrolet Cruze hatchbacks of 2012 to 2013 and the Astra J CDTi engines printed on the listing, against OE 55561912. The listing says the part is non-OEM. The rating is 5.0 from one review, and the file has no review text, so there is no account of idle, smoke or a warning light. Mounting is given as flange mount or none, which does not tell you how the housing sits in the duct. It is much heavier than the 60 g inserts, which matters when the broken piece is the whole assembly. One star from one person is not a sample you can set beside 98 reviews on the 6C11 HouYeen.

Pros

  • OE 55561912 stated, 5-pin, 210 g
  • Fitment limited to Cruze 2012–2013 and named Astra J CDTi codes, rather than a brand-wide list
  • Listing states that the part is non-OEM

Cons

  • 5.0 from 1 review and no review text in the file
  • No warranty line
  • Mounting given as flange mount or none
  • £33.49 with no UK narrative of the lamp going out

Best for: A 2012–2013 Cruze hatchback, or a listed Astra J CDTi, whose old sensor is the 5-pin 55561912 assembly.

Less suitable: An 8-pin Vauxhall plug, or a buyer who reads 5.0 as a tested result.

Common questions

Is this an OEM Chevrolet part?

The listing says it is a non-OEM part designed to fit the Cruze and the Astra engines it names, against OE 55561912.

How many pins?

Five pins. Materials listed as plastic and metal. Weight 210 g.

How strong is the rating?

The listing shows 5.0 from 1 review. There is no review text in the file.

Frankberg 5-pin MAF

Rank 2

Frankberg 5-pin MAF

∼£23

Our view

The Frankberg listing is a 5-pin, 12 V meter at £22.99, weighing 70 g and measuring 11 × 7 × 6 cm, rated 4.8 from five reviews, against 197400-3021 and 1X43-12B579-AB. The only review text in the file is a short German comment that it fits, so there is no UK account of a warning light going out or of an early failure. The model bullets run from Jaguar and Land Rover into Mazda, Toyota and Volvo, which is wider than those two numbers can confirm. Five stars on five ratings are a thinner file than 4.2 from 98 on the 6C11 HouYeen. The useful fact is the five-pin plug, and only when that count and 1X43-12B579-AB match the sensor you removed.

Pros

  • 5-pin and 12 V DC stated, at £22.99 and 70 g
  • OE numbers 197400-3021 and 1X43-12B579-AB printed on the listing
  • Dimensions given as 11 × 7 × 6 cm
  • 4.8 from 5 reviews, with no defect narrative in the extract

Cons

  • Only five reviews, and the only review text is a short German fit comment
  • Model list runs far beyond the two OE numbers, including Toyota and Mazda
  • No UK write-up of a cure or a failure
  • Warranty is n/a

Best for: A car whose old sensor is 5-pin and reads 1X43-12B579-AB or 197400-3021.

Less suitable: An 8-pin Astra or Cruze plug, or a purchase made from the longest model name on the page.

Common questions

How many pins does this plug have?

The listing says 5-pin, 12 V DC, petrol or diesel, electrical output.

197400-3021 and 1X43-12B579-AB. The same page also names many Mazda, Toyota and Volvo models. Use the number on your sensor, not the longest model list.

How many UK reviews are in the extract?

The listing average is 4.8 from 5 reviews. The only review text in the file is a short German fit comment.

HouYeen 6C11 MAF

Rank 3

HouYeen 6C11 MAF

∼£18

Our view

Across 98 amazon.co.uk reviews, the HouYeen 6C11 insert is a 58 g digital flange meter at £17.99 for OE 6C11-12B579-AA. A 2009 Galaxy TDI owner described limp mode clearing after a P010F code, using a plug and two Torx screws by the air filter. A 2008 Citroen Relay 2.2 review said the engine light went out and idle returned, set against a dealer quote of over £60. A Transit 2.4 MK7 swap was described as about two minutes for a P1103 complaint, and that reviewer later said the code came back. Other UK comments report immediate limp mode, no change on a Ford Mondeo 2.0 diesel, and a failure after about a month once a returns window had passed. The listing does not print a pin count or a warranty. It is the top pick in this set because the review file is the deepest, and that file still includes early failures.

Pros

  • OE 6C11-12B579-AA at £17.99, a 58 g flange insert with digital output stated
  • 4.2 from 98 reviews, including a Galaxy limp-mode cure and a Relay light-out report
  • A Transit owner described the swap as about two minutes with a plug and screws
  • Captured listing ranked 42 in Car Air Mass Sensors

Cons

  • Immediate limp mode in at least one UK review
  • Transit P1103 returned after about a day in one update
  • Failed after about a month in a review that said seller help was refused
  • One reviewer said it does not work on a Ford Mondeo 2.0 diesel
  • Pin count and warranty are n/a

Best for: A Transit MK7, Galaxy, S-MAX, Mondeo MK4 diesel, Boxer or Relay whose old sensor reads 6C11-12B579-AA.

Less suitable: A car on 7M51-12B579-BB or 8V21-12B579-AA, or a Mondeo 2.0 diesel already reported as a mismatch.

Common questions

Which Ford number is this listed against?

The listing model number is 6C11-12B579-AA (also written 6C1112B579AA), plus 1376235. Match that suffix to the sensor on the car before you order.

Is the output analogue or digital?

The amazon.co.uk listing says digital output and flange mount. It does not state a pin count.

Does the listing include a warranty?

No warranty period is printed in the listing for this ASIN.

HouYeen 8V21 MAF

Rank 4

HouYeen 8V21 MAF

∼£20

Our view

The HouYeen 8V21 meter is a 60 g analogue flange insert at £19.99, rated 3.9 from 59 reviews, for OE 8V21-12B579-AA. A 2012 Citroen Relay motorhome review said the light went out and the OBD readings looked accurate, and the buyer compared the price with a parts centre. An S-MAX and a 2012 Mondeo Titanium were described as fitted and working. The same file includes a P0103 code after the original fault cleared, a failure under 500 miles, and an immediate malfunction light that was returned. The grams-per-second line on the page is marked Predicted, so it is not a confirmed measuring range. This is the best value when your old part is the 8V21 suffix, and it is a different sensor from the £17.99 6C11 listing even though both titles name Mondeo and Transit.

Pros

  • OE 8V21-12B579-AA at £19.99, 60 g, analogue output and a 12 V supply line
  • 3.9 from 59 reviews, including a Relay motorhome light-out report
  • S-MAX and 2012 Mondeo Titanium reviews describe a straightforward fit
  • Separate listing from the 6C11 HouYeen unit

Cons

  • P0103 appeared after the original fault cleared in one review
  • Failed in under 500 miles in one review
  • Immediate engine malfunction light, then a return, in one review
  • Measuring range is marked Predicted and is not a tested figure
  • Pin count and warranty are n/a

Best for: A Fiesta MK6, Transit MK8, Ranger, Evoque or 2011-on Relay whose sensor reads 8V21-12B579-AA.

Less suitable: A 6C11 Transit MK7 or a 7M51 Focus, or anyone treating the Predicted grams-per-second line as a specification.

Common questions

Is this the same part as the 6C11 Mondeo sensor?

No. This listing uses OE 8V21-12B579-AA. The other HouYeen listing uses 6C11-12B579-AA. Check the number on your sensor.

What output does the listing state?

Analogue output, flange mount, 12 V maximum supply, weight 60 g.

Is the grams-per-second range a tested figure?

The listing marks the measuring range as Predicted. Treat it as unpublished.

HouYeen Saab and Astra H MAF

Rank 5

HouYeen Saab and Astra H MAF

∼£20

Our view

This HouYeen unit weighs 230 g, costs £19.99 and is rated 3.9 from 31 reviews, against OE 0281002618 and 55350048. The title says Saab, while the bullets also name Astra H, Corsa D, Vectra C, Alfa 156 and several other ranges. A UK review called it well packaged and the same as the OE part. Another buyer returned it as not for the model advertised. A German review said it failed after two days, and a Spanish review said it failed after about three weeks and about 150 km, so those two short-life notes are not UK write-ups. Only four review bodies sit behind the 31 ratings. The listing says analogue or digital, so the signal type is not fixed, and there is no pin count or warranty line.

Pros

  • OE 0281002618 and 55350048 at £19.99
  • 3.9 from 31 reviews, with one UK comment that it matched the OE part
  • 230 g, heavier than the 60 g Ford inserts if your old part is that size
  • 12 V DC maximum supply stated

Cons

  • Returned as not for the model advertised
  • Non-UK reviews describe failure after two days or about three weeks and 150 km
  • Output listed as analogue or digital, so the signal is not specified
  • Title says Saab while the fitment list is much wider

Best for: A Saab 9-3 or 9-5, or an Astra H, Corsa D or Vectra C, only when the old sensor reads 0281002618 or 55350048.

Less suitable: Any Vauxhall bought from the Saab title alone, or a car that needs a stated pin count.

Common questions

Is this only for Saab?

The title says Saab. The fitment bullets also list Astra H, Corsa D, Vectra C, Signum, Antara, Alfa 156, Fiat and Suzuki. Check OE 0281002618 or 55350048 on your part.

Analogue or digital?

The listing says analogue or digital, so the signal type is not fixed in the product data.

Will it fit a Vauxhall?

Only the Vauxhall and Opel models printed on the listing, and only if the OE number matches. One reviewer returned it as not for the advertised model.

HouYeen Focus MAF

Rank 6

HouYeen Focus MAF

∼£23

Our view

The HouYeen Focus meter has the largest review file in this set, 3.8 from 104 reviews, at £22.99 and 70 g, and the box line says one remanufactured sensor for OE 7M51-12B579-BB. Reviewers describe a plug-and-play fit, a code deleted, a 2014 Kuga Mk2 that worked, and one car whose live data looked normal afterwards. Other buyers say the part did not match the pictures, the fault code stayed, and the readings made no sense, after which they ordered a Bosch unit they priced at about £80 or more. Short life shows up as a few days, about a month, or about six weeks before judder or the management light returned. One review says it is not compatible with a C-MAX 1.5 TDCi. It is not the 6C11 Transit sensor, and the listing states neither a pin count nor a warranty.

Pros

  • OE 7M51-12B579-BB at £22.99, 70 g flange mount
  • 3.8 from 104 reviews, the largest count in this comparison
  • Plug-and-play comments, including a 2014 Kuga Mk2 and a live-data note
  • The listing states that the sensor is remanufactured, so the condition is visible

Cons

  • Remanufactured, and several reviews describe failure within days to about six weeks
  • Fault code unchanged, or readings that made no sense, then a Bosch purchase
  • One review: not compatible with a C-MAX 1.5 TDCi
  • One buyer said the part did not match the pictures
  • Pin count and warranty are n/a

Best for: A Focus MK2 or MK3, C-MAX or Kuga I whose old sensor reads 7M51-12B579-BB and where a remanufactured insert is acceptable.

Less suitable: A C-MAX 1.5 TDCi, a 6C11 Transit, or a buyer who wants a new sensor with a printed warranty.

Common questions

Is this sensor new?

The listing says the box contains one remanufactured mass air flow meter sensor.

Which OE number should you match?

7M51-12B579-BB, also written 7M5112B579BB, plus the cross-references printed on the listing such as 1480570.

Does the title cover every C-MAX?

The fitment lines name specific Focus, C-MAX, Kuga and Volvo engines. A review says it is not compatible with a C-MAX 1.5 TDCi. Match the engine, not only the model name.

PEIUOK 8-pin Vauxhall MAF

Rank 7

PEIUOK 8-pin Vauxhall MAF

∼£50

Our view

The PEIUOK eight-pin meter is the dearest listing here at £49.89, a 60 g plug-mount analogue insert for OE 0280218419, rated 3.7 from seven reviews, with a 13-month seller warranty. The seller states accuracy of 2% or better, and that figure is not a UK lab result. Two UK reviews in the file say the unit did not read correctly. One showed a mixture that was too rich within about five minutes. Another produced a different fault and was returned, and that reviewer said a third unit was then fine. Fast delivery and a return accepted without fuss are the positive notes. It is not interchangeable with the 5-pin Frankberg or TUCKBOLD units, even where a title mentions Astra or Cruze. A rank of 21 in Car Air Mass Sensors does not outweigh those two written faults.

Pros

  • 8-pin plug mount stated, OE 0280218419, 60 g analogue output
  • 13-month seller warranty via Amazon
  • 3.7 from 7 reviews, more than the one-review Cruze listing
  • A return was accepted on a unit that did not work

Cons

  • £49.89, the highest price in this set
  • UK review: mixture too rich within about five minutes
  • Another UK review: a different fault, then a return
  • The 2% accuracy line is a seller claim, not a published UK test

Best for: An Astra, Corsa, Mokka or Cruze whose old meter is the 8-pin 0280218419 plug, if you will use the 13-month warranty promptly.

Less suitable: A 5-pin Astra or Cruze sensor, or a buyer choosing it because it is the dearest listing.

Common questions

Can it be used on a Vauxhall?

The listing names Adam, Astra Mk V to Mk VII, Corsa Mk III, Meriva, Mokka and Zafira, plus Chevrolet Cruze, Aveo and Trax. It is an 8-pin plug-mount part, OE 0280218419.

What accuracy does the seller state?

2% or better. That figure is the seller's claim on the listing, not a published UK lab test.

What did UK reviewers write?

Two UK reviews are in the file. One unit showed a rich mixture within about five minutes. The other caused a different fault and was returned. The average is 3.7 from 7 reviews.

Amrxuts Jaguar MAF

Rank 8

Amrxuts Jaguar MAF

∼£35

Our view

The Amrxuts Jaguar meter is £35 and 140 g, flange mounted, model 197408-0011, and rated 3.4 from four reviews. The file has that average and no review bodies, so there is no UK sentence about a light going out or a quick return. An included-components line says five pins, which is a listing phrase rather than a count you can see confirmed in a review. The cross-list is long and includes 1X43 numbers as well as 2W93 suffixes. The seller invites a VIN check if you are unsure. At £35, with four ratings and no written reviews, the purchase only makes sense when 197408-0011 is the number on the sensor you removed.

Pros

  • Model 197408-0011 at £35, 140 g, flange mount
  • Fitment text stays on Jaguar S-Type, X-Type, XF, XJ and XK years
  • Seller invites a VIN check
  • Included-components line mentions 5 pins

Cons

  • 3.4 from 4 reviews and no review text in the file
  • Long cross-list mixes several Jaguar suffixes
  • The five-pin line is a listing phrase, not a reviewed plug photo
  • Warranty is n/a

Best for: A listed Jaguar whose old meter reads 197408-0011, after a VIN check if the suffix is unclear.

Less suitable: A Ford insert, or a purchase made from a neighbouring number such as 1X43-12B579-AB on the same cross-list.

Common questions

Which Jaguars are listed?

S-Type, X-Type, XF, XJ and XK, with engine codes such as AJ-V6 and AJ-V8 printed year by year. The seller invites a VIN check if you are unsure.

Does the page claim better fuel economy?

The listing asks the question and does not give a measured figure. This comparison does not claim a fuel-economy percentage.

How many reviews support the score?

3.4 out of 5 from 4 reviews. The file has no review text.

PEIUOK BMW and Mini MAF

Rank 9

PEIUOK BMW and Mini MAF

∼£25

Our view

The PEIUOK BMW and Mini meter is listed at £24.89 and 80 g against OE 13628506408 and 0281006092, with a one-year seller warranty. The captured page ranked it 7 in Car Air Mass Sensors. The star line is 1.8 from three reviews, the weakest average in this set. Both UK reviews in the file say the part did not fix the fault. One buyer then paid for an OEM part that did, and the other said further codes appeared. The listing asks you to check Amazon Garage, and the material line is ABS plastic. A high category rank and a low shelf price do not outweigh two written failures on a sample of three.

Pros

  • OE 13628506408 and 0281006092 printed for the listed F-series BMW and Mini R55–R61 cars
  • 80 g flange-mount unit at £24.89
  • One-year seller warranty stated
  • Listing tells you to confirm the car in Amazon Garage

Cons

  • 1.8 from 3 reviews
  • Both UK reviews say the original fault remained
  • One buyer reported extra codes and then fitted an OEM part
  • Only three ratings behind the category rank

Best for: A listed BMW F-series or Mini whose old number is 13628506408, only if you are prepared to return it quickly.

Less suitable: Anyone treating the category rank or the £24.89 price as evidence the fault will clear.

What is it made of?

The listing says ABS plastic and gives a weight of 80 g.

Both UK reviews in the file say the part did not fix the fault. One buyer then fitted an OEM part. The listing average is 1.8 from 3 reviews.

GELGP Mokka 1.4 MAF

Rank 10

GELGP Mokka 1.4 MAF

∼£48

Our view

The GELGP listing is a 400 g assembly, 18 × 8 × 5 cm, at £47.99 for Mokka and Mokka X 1.4 turbo petrol, Trax 1.4 turbo and Astra J 1.4 turbo, against OE 0280218432. The seller calls it brand new aftermarket and offers a one-year replacement if there is a quality issue. There is no customer-review line, so nobody in the file describes whether the lamp went out. It is the heavy end of this set: a 60 g HouYeen insert is a different shape of part. Pin count and output type are n/a. The manufacturer field on the listing reads Gupo, while the brand on the page is GELGP. You would order it only when the old housing matches 0280218432 and you accept a listing with no UK review text.

Pros

  • OE 0280218432, with 0280218431 also printed
  • 400 g and 18 × 8 × 5 cm, so it is identifiable as an assembly
  • Fitment limited to named 1.4 turbo Mokka, Trax and Astra J years
  • One-year seller replacement offer, described as brand new aftermarket

Cons

  • No customer-review line, so the rating is n/a
  • £47.99 with no UK account of a repair
  • Pin count and output type are n/a
  • Brand on the page is GELGP while the manufacturer field says Gupo

Best for: A Mokka, Mokka X, Trax or Astra J 1.4 turbo whose old assembly reads 0280218432.

Less suitable: A 60 g plug-in insert, an 8-pin 0280218419 meter, or a diesel Astra.

JETPROP 8V21 MAF

∼£30

Our view

The JETPROP listing is £29.99 and 145 g, with model number 8V2112B579AA and a one-year seller warranty. The file has no customer-review line, so there is no star average and no owner describing a cure or a failure. The printed numbers include both 8V21-12B579-AA and 6C11-12B579-AA, which are different Ford families in this comparison. Output type, pin count and new-versus-remanufactured are n/a. The fitment text names Transit, Mondeo, Ranger, Discovery and several Volvos without engine codes. At about £10 more than the HouYeen 8V21 unit that has 59 reviews, you are paying for a warranty sentence and a mixed number list.

Pros

  • One-year seller warranty stated
  • 145 g, and the model number 8V2112B579AA is printed
  • OE 8V21-12B579-AA appears on the listing if that is the sensor you removed

Cons

  • No customer-review line, so the rating is n/a
  • Cross-list also prints 6C11-12B579-AA, a different Ford suffix
  • Pin count, output type and condition are n/a
  • £29.99 against a £19.99 8V21 listing that has 59 reviews

Best for: A last look only when the old sensor is exactly 8V21-12B579-AA and you want the stated one-year warranty.

Less suitable: A 6C11 car, or any order based on the full cross-list rather than one number.

Common questions

Which OE numbers are printed?

8V21-12B579-AA, LR019830, AFH70M-83, 6C11-12B579-AA, 1516668 and further numbers on the listing. The cross-list includes more than one Ford suffix, so match your old part.

Is there a star rating?

The listing has no customer-review line, so the rating is n/a.

What warranty does the seller state?

A 1-year warranty, with an invitation to contact the seller.

How we compared

Eleven mass air flow sensors on amazon.co.uk were scored from the listings and review notes checked on 19 October 2026. There is no laboratory airflow test. A star average on one to five reviews does not outrank a larger UK sample that includes both cures and early failures. A 4.8 from five ratings is weaker evidence than a 4.2 from 98. A one-year or 13-month seller warranty is noted, and it does not replace a review sample. No ASIN is scored as a Bosch or dealer part, and none is scored as an MOT pass.

1

Review evidence

40%

The amazon.co.uk star line is scaled down when fewer than about 30 reviews sit behind it. One review at 5.0 does not outrank 98 reviews at 4.2. A listing with no customer-review line scores below every rated listing.

2

One OE family

25%

The listing should name one OE family, including the suffix. Mixing 6C11-12B579-AA and 8V21-12B579-AA on one page, or a model list that runs from Jaguar to Toyota, is a deduction.

3

Price against evidence

20%

Shelf price is scored against the review file, not on its own. About £17.99 with 98 reviews scores above about £49.89 with seven reviews and two written faults.

4

Listing honesty

15%

Points come off for early failure, a return as the wrong model, a seller accuracy figure with no UK lab, a measuring range marked Predicted, or a remanufactured box line paired with short-life comments.

Mass air flow sensor buying guide

Match the OE number and the suffix first, then the pin count and the housing, then the UK review file. Price comes after those three. The notes below follow that order for these 11 amazon.co.uk listings. None of the scores is a laboratory airflow test.

What is a mass air flow sensor?

A mass air flow sensor tells the engine computer how much air is entering so it can set fuel and, on many diesels, exhaust-gas recirculation. UK buyers are usually chasing a flat spot, a rough idle, smoke or a warning light after a code such as P0100 or P0101. The part has to match the old sensor's number, pins and housing. Eleven complete sensors are on this page, from about £17.99 to about £49.89. A wiring plug at about £8.79 was left out because it is not the sensor.

Best for

  • An older Ford, van, Volvo or Land Rover diesel whose old insert reads one OE suffix and sits in the £18–£25 band
  • A Jaguar, BMW, Mokka 1.4 or eight-pin Vauxhall where the number is narrow and the review file is under ten ratings
  • A driver with the lamp on before an MOT who needs the tester's rule on the lamp, not a brand claim

Not ideal for

  • A purchase made from the car name in the title, or from a model list that runs from Jaguar to Toyota
  • A 5-pin plug ordered as if it were the 8-pin Astra or Cruze meter
  • Anyone treating 4.8 from five ratings as stronger evidence than 4.2 from 98

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

Buying from the car name in the title

Mondeo and Transit appear on both the 6C11 and the 8V21 HouYeen listings. Those suffixes are different Ford families. Read the number on the sensor you removed, including the letters after the hyphen.

  2. 2

Mixing a 5-pin plug with an 8-pin plug

Frankberg and the TUCKBOLD Cruze unit are listed as 5-pin. The PEIUOK Vauxhall and Chevrolet unit is listed as 8-pin. An Astra or Cruze in both titles does not make the plugs interchangeable.

  3. 3

Buying a connector, or trusting a list from Jaguar to Toyota

A wiring plug is not the meter, which is why the £8.79 plug was left out of this set. A model list that runs past the printed OE numbers, including Mazda and Toyota on the Frankberg page, is not a fitment guarantee.

What to weigh up

OE number, including the suffix

High

Read the OE number, including the suffix, from the old sensor or from a catalogue for that registration. In this set, 6C11-12B579-AA, 7M51-12B579-BB and 8V21-12B579-AA are different Ford families, not three names for one part. The HouYeen 6C11 listing at about £17.99 is the top pick because 98 reviews sit on that one suffix, not because the title also says Mondeo or Transit. The HouYeen 8V21 at about £19.99 is the best value only when the old part is 8V21-12B579-AA.

Pins, plug shape and housing

High

Pin count and plug shape come next. Frankberg is listed as 5-pin, 12 V and 70 g, against 1X43-12B579-AB. The TUCKBOLD Cruze assembly is also 5-pin, at 210 g, OE 55561912, and the listing says it is non-OEM. The PEIUOK Vauxhall and Chevrolet meter is the only 8-pin listing, a 60 g plug-mount analogue insert for 0280218419 at about £49.89. An Astra or Cruze title does not make a 5-pin and an 8-pin the same part. Then separate an insert from a housing. Weights in this set run from 58 g to 400 g.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Ford 6C11 insert

You already have a code on an older Transit MK7, Galaxy, S-MAX, Mondeo MK4 diesel, Boxer or Relay, and the sensor you removed reads 6C11-12B579-AA. The HouYeen 6C11 insert is about £17.99, with 4.2 from 98 reviews. The file still includes early limp mode and a returned code.

Later Ford 8V21 number

The old suffix is 8V21-12B579-AA, on a later Fiesta, Transit MK8, Ranger, Evoque or 2011-on Relay. The HouYeen 8V21 meter is about £19.99 and 3.9 from 59 reviews. It is a different part from the 6C11 listing, even where both titles say Mondeo or Transit.

Eight-pin Vauxhall plug

You need the 8-pin plug for OE 0280218419, not a 5-pin Astra or Cruze title. The PEIUOK listing is about £49.89, 3.7 from 7 reviews, with a 13-month seller warranty. Two UK reviews describe a wrong reading. A star line under ten reviews is thin evidence.

Common questions about mass air flow sensors

Which mass air flow sensor is the top pick in this set?
The top pick is the HouYeen 6C11 insert, about £17.99 on amazon.co.uk, OE 6C11-12B579-AA. It is a 58 g digital flange meter, rated 4.2 from 98 reviews. UK comments include a Galaxy limp-mode cure and a Relay light-out report, and also immediate limp mode, a Transit P1103 that came back, and a Mondeo 2.0 diesel mismatch. The score uses that mixed file. It is not a laboratory airflow test, and it is not a claim that the MOT will pass.
How much does a mass air flow sensor cost on amazon.co.uk?
On these 11 amazon.co.uk shelves the prices run from about £17.99 to about £49.89. That is this set, not a market average. About £18–£25 covers the HouYeen Ford and Saab-pattern units, the Frankberg 5-pin and the PEIUOK BMW meter. About £26–£40 covers JETPROP, the TUCKBOLD Cruze and the Amrxuts Jaguar. The GELGP Mokka assembly is about £47.99 and the PEIUOK 8-pin is about £49.89. A named Bosch unit on other UK shops can sit around £100–£160 as a rule of thumb. That figure is not the price of these ASINs.
What should you match before you buy a mass air flow sensor?
Read the OE number, including the suffix, from the old sensor. In this set, 6C11-12B579-AA, 7M51-12B579-BB and 8V21-12B579-AA are different Ford families. Then match pin count and plug shape. Frankberg and the Cruze unit are listed as 5-pin. The PEIUOK Vauxhall unit is listed as 8-pin. A title that says Astra does not make those plugs the same part. Also match insert against housing. Weights here run from 58 g to 400 g.
Is a mass air flow sensor the same as a MAP sensor?
No. A mass air flow sensor measures air mass with a heated element. A MAP sensor measures manifold pressure. Many turbodiesels have both, and on diesels the mass air flow sensor is used for exhaust-gas recirculation. Ordering the pressure sensor because a title says air will not clear a mass-air code. This page only ranks mass air flow sensors. The two parts can share an engine bay and still be the wrong swap for each other.
Will a new mass air flow sensor pass the MOT?
The MOT inspection manual does not name the mass air flow sensor. It fails an engine malfunction lamp that stays on, as a Major defect, for petrol cars first used on or after 1 July 2003 and diesel cars first used on or after 1 July 2008, with the exclusions the manual lists. It also measures exhaust smoke or gases. None of these 11 listings is scored as an MOT pass.
Can you clean a mass air flow sensor instead of replacing it?
Do not spray brake cleaner, carb cleaner or compressed air on the element, and do not touch the wire. Public guidance points to a MAF cleaner, and the element needs to dry. An oiled air filter is a known way to contaminate the meter again. A clean is not a substitute when the number on the new part is already wrong for the car, or when live data does not move after a correctly numbered sensor.
When should you call a garage?
Call a garage if a correctly numbered new sensor does not move live data, if smoke, a DPF fault and an EGR fault arrive together, or if the ducting on a BMW or Jaguar will not come apart cleanly. Clearing the code without checking that the live reading rises is a common miss. If that job puts you on your back, a mechanic creeper is a separate comparison. It does not change which OE number you need.
How long do you have to reject a faulty sensor?
The Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives 30 days, starting the day after delivery, to reject faulty goods. A one-year or 13-month seller warranty on some of these listings is a seller line. It does not replace a review sample, and it does not replace that 30-day right. Early failure shows up in the Ford-pattern files, including one HouYeen 6C11 review that said the returns window had already passed. Keep the packaging until you have checked that live data moves.

Our verdict

In this set of 11 amazon.co.uk listings, the top pick is the HouYeen 6C11 MAF at about £17.99. It is a 58 g digital flange insert for OE 6C11-12B579-AA, rated 4.2 from 98 reviews, and the file still includes limp mode, a returned Transit P1103 and a Mondeo 2.0 diesel mismatch. The best value is the HouYeen 8V21 MAF at about £19.99, 3.9 from 59 reviews, for the later suffix 8V21-12B579-AA. A P0103 after a cure and a failure under 500 miles stay in that file. The other nine have no award. None of these scores is a Bosch part, a dealer part, or an MOT pass.
