Best MAF sensor: which UK review file to trust

Updated: October 2026

You already know the car needs a mass air flow sensor, and amazon.co.uk is sorting the grid by stars. A 4.8 from five reviews can sit above a 4.2 from 98 reviews that include both cures and early failures. The best MAF sensor, on this page, means a UK review file large enough to show what goes right and what comes back. Shelf prices run from £17.99 to £49.89 in our [mass air flow sensor comparison](/hub/car-parts/mass-air-flow-sensor), checked on 19 October 2026. Kevin B. wrote this for Cars & motoring. We did not bench-test any meter. A qualifying amazon.co.uk purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

What best can mean in this set

The useful test is two questions at once. Does the OE number match the sensor you removed, and do the UK reviews show both a cleared light and a fault that came back? The TUCKBOLD Cruze assembly is 5.0 from one review at £33.49, with no review text. The Frankberg 5-pin meter is 4.8 from five reviews, and the only review text is a short German fit comment. A large file with a lower average is the other end. The HouYeen 6C11 meter is 4.2 from 98 reviews at £17.99. The Focus meter is 3.8 from 104. Both contain cures and lights that returned within weeks. Suffixes are separated in the MAF sensor buying guide.

Ford, van and Volvo inserts

For a sensor that reads 6C11-12B579-AA, the £17.99 HouYeen listing has the deepest UK file in this set. A Galaxy TDI review described limp mode clearing after a P010F code. A Transit 2.4 MK7 owner described a short swap for a P1103 complaint, then said the code returned. Other comments report immediate limp mode and a Ford Mondeo 2.0 diesel on which the part did not work. The HouYeen 8V21 meter is a different listing: £19.99, 3.9 from 59 reviews, for 8V21-12B579-AA. The file includes a light-out report and a P0103 after the old fault cleared. Use it only when the car carries 8V21. The Focus pattern, OE 7M51-12B579-BB, says the sensor is remanufactured, and some lights returned within about six weeks. The Saab-titled unit, OE 0281002618, is a fourth family. None of these is a substitute for the others.

Listings with almost no reviews

Absence of a complaint is not praise when almost nobody has written. The JETPROP page at £29.99 has no customer-review line, and it prints both 8V21-12B579-AA and 6C11-12B579-AA. The GELGP Mokka assembly is £47.99 with no review line. The Frankberg 4.8 from five reviews belongs here too: a German one-line fit comment does not describe a UK warning light, and the model list runs from Jaguar into Toyota. A high rank in Car Air Mass Sensors can sit on the same thin evidence.

Who should skip the BMW and eight-pin units

The PEIUOK BMW and Mini meter is £24.89 against OE 13628506408, average 1.8 from three reviews. Both UK reviews say the part did not fix the fault. A category rank is the wrong reason to choose it. The eight-pin PEIUOK meter is the dearest listing, £49.89, OE 0280218419, 3.7 from seven reviews. Two UK reviews say the reading was wrong, including a rich mixture within about five minutes. It is the wrong part for a 5-pin plug. Fitting starts only after the number matches, on the how to replace a MAF sensor page.

Which file to open first

If your old sensor reads 6C11-12B579-AA, start with the £17.99 HouYeen file and read the failure comments before you fit it. If the number is 8V21-12B579-AA, that listing is a different part, not a cheaper cousin. If the plug is eight-pin and the written reviews already describe a wrong reading, the £49.89 price is not a reason to buy. If the listing has no star line, you are guessing.

Common questions

Is 4.8 from five reviews better than 4.2 from 98?
No. The Frankberg listing is 4.8 from five reviews, and the only review text in the extract is a short German fit comment. The £17.99 HouYeen listing is 4.2 from 98 reviews and includes both a cleared limp mode and parts that failed within about a month. Use the larger file when the OE number matches.
Should I skip the £49.89 eight-pin unit?
Skip it if your plug is not eight-pin, or if you are buying it because it costs the most. It is OE 0280218419 at 3.7 from seven reviews. Two UK reviews describe a wrong reading, one of them a rich mixture within about five minutes. The seller's 2% accuracy line is not a UK lab test.
Is the BMW listing a bargain at £24.89?
The price is low beside a dealer part, and the reviews do not support treating it as a bargain. The average is 1.8 from three reviews on OE 13628506408. Both UK reviews say the fault remained, and one buyer then fitted an OEM part. A one-year seller warranty does not change that written record.
Which sensor is for a Transit MK7 rather than a Focus?
A Transit MK7 pattern in this set is 6C11-12B579-AA, the £17.99 HouYeen listing. A Focus MK2 or MK3 pattern is 7M51-12B579-BB, the £22.99 remanufactured listing. A later Transit MK8 pattern is 8V21-12B579-AA at £19.99. The titles overlap on the word Transit. The suffix on the old sensor is the split.
What if there is no star rating?
Treat the listing as untested by UK buyers in this extract. The JETPROP page at £29.99 and the GELGP assembly at £47.99 have no customer-review line. You can still match an OE number, and you cannot quote a cure. Prefer the HouYeen file you can read for the same Ford suffix, unless the heavy GELGP housing is the shape you removed.
