Cordless lamp for a bathroom shelf, not for the bath

Updated: 2026-10-21

You want a cordless lamp in the bathroom because the pull-cord is harsh at night, or the only light is on the ceiling and the basin is a dark corner. Listings answer with shower, waterproof and outdoor, sometimes on a page that also says the lamp is not waterproof. A battery lamp on a shelf is not a light inside the bath. This page is the splash limit for the ten lamps in our [cordless lamp comparison](/hub/workshop/cordless-lamp). We used the 19 October 2026 amazon.co.uk listings and SELECT and NICEIC guidance on BS 7671 section 701. We did not spray the lamps. What the zones are asking for

Bathroom zones describe where water is expected. In the SELECT pocket guide to BS 7671 section 701, zone 0 is the interior of the bath or shower tray and needs at least IPX7 plus a fixed connection. NICEIC’s householder page says IPX4 or IPX5 for zones 1 and 2, and IPX7 for zone 0. Nothing here prints IPX7. It does not put the lamp under a shower jet. Charge outside the zones on how to charge a cordless lamp.

The only printed IP54 in this set

The Litluzecozy DSL04 in warm oak prints IP54 in the title and the bullets, marks waterproof as true, and says not to immerse the lamp or put it under jets. A bullet allows a covered outdoor table. For a bathroom, use the splash sentence. The listing calls it an accent light, so it will not replace the ceiling fitting at the mirror. The white DSL04 is not a second approval. The title still says IP54, but the specification row says not waterproof. Both colours share 4.4 from 62 reviews and the same text. Count that file once. A contradiction is not a shower rating.

Lamps that only say bathroom

The other listings do not give you a code next to a zone. The small MJ PREMIER has a review that uses two for a candle-like bathroom, and the waterproof flag is false. It is 29–33 lumens at 2700 K on two AAA cells at 3 V. The OUTON and the UPXNBOR tick waterproof and print no IP numeral. IP54 appears only in a review. The fuaoddda, the INTELIVE, the glass MJ PREMIER and the Eglo are not water resistant. If a bullet says bathroom and the table disagrees, trust the table. The other checks are on the cordless table lamp buying guide.

What to do about the bath itself

No lamp here goes in the water. The oak Litluzecozy is the only one that prints a splash code and agrees with it. A listing that only says bathroom stays in a dry room.

Common questions

Can I put this lamp in the shower?
No lamp in this set belongs in the shower or in the bath. Zone 0, the interior of the tray or bath, calls for at least IPX7 and a fixed connection in the SELECT guide to BS 7671 section 701. Nothing here prints IPX7. The Litluzecozy oak listing, which does print IP54, also says not to immerse the lamp or put it under jets. A bullet that mentions a shower is advertising, not that rating.
Is IP54 enough for zone 2?
IP54 includes the splash digit, IPX4, which is the minimum the section 701 guides quote for zone 2 equipment. That is a statement about what the zone requires of equipment, not a finding that this portable lamp has been certified for your bathroom. The oak Litluzecozy prints IP54 and a do-not-immerse line. We have not tested it on a zone 2 shelf. Do not read this as permission to mount it inside the spray.
What is zone 0?
Zone 0 is the interior of the bath or the shower tray, in the SELECT guide to BS 7671 section 701. Equipment there needs at least IPX7 and should be on a fixed connection. A cordless lamp standing in the water, or on the floor of the tray, is in that zone. None of these amazon.co.uk listings is that product. Keep every lamp in this comparison out of the water, including the one that prints IP54.
The listing says waterproof and not waterproof. Which do I trust?
Read both, and do not let the friendlier word win. On the white Litluzecozy, the title and bullets say IP54 and the specification row says not waterproof. On the fuaoddda and the INTELIVE, outdoor is ticked and the specification says not water resistant. Where the fields fight, you do not have a bathroom rating. The oak DSL04 is the page in this set where the IP54 bullet and the waterproof flag agree, and even that page says not to immerse it.
Is a candle-like AAA lamp safer because it is only 3 V?
It is safer only in the narrow sense that you are not charging it in the room. The small MJ PREMIER is 3 V from two AAA cells, states 29–33 lumens, and is not waterproof. A review that puts two of them on a bathroom counter does not create an IP rating. Low voltage does not allow zone 0. If the shelf can be splashed, this is the wrong lamp, however small the cell is.
Do I need an electrician for a battery lamp?
Not for standing a charged lamp on a dry shelf outside the spray. You do need a registered electrician for a new socket, a pull-cord, or a fixed light in a bath or shower room, and for any plan to charge inside the zones from a SELV supply. A cordless lamp does not remove those rules. It also does not replace a proper bathroom light if you need to see clearly at the mirror.
