Gas weed burner buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You are stood in front of a patio joint full of seedlings, or a block drive that has greened along the edges, and the amazon.co.uk titles all sound like the same tool. This gas weed burner buying guide is the order to use before you sort by stars. A canister wand and a hose lance are different purchases, and the title often hides whether the cans, the hose length and a UK regulator are in the box. The eight listings, with prices in GBP, sit on our [gas weed burner comparison](/hub/weed-control/weed-burner-gas). Those pages were compared on 16 October 2026. There is no lab test. Start with the fuel system, then the box, then ignition and reach. The degree figure on a title is the seller’s claim.

Two gas tools, not one

A wand carries a small butane canister on the handle. A lance takes a hose from a refillable cylinder. Treat those as separate tools. The nut on one will not substitute for the can on the other. In this set the wands are the Onkruidbrander at £14.95, with 4.0 from 7,733 reviews, four cans, 78 cm and 470 g, and the two Green Haven listings. The four-can Green Haven is £19.99 with 3.8 from 3,256 reviews. The eight-can title is £26.99 with 3.7 from 812. Both Green Haven pages use model DYN13870. Both titles say electric. The bullets describe butane, a piezo and no cable. The hose rows start with the Dapetz DP09627 at £19.79, 3.7 from 29 reviews, and the Yosoo kit at £23.26, 3.9 from 37. Gloria’s Thermoflamm is £33.80, with 4.6 from 2,151 on the star line, a claimed 5 m hose and dimensions in the 94 cm class. DVDVBOOM is £43.99 and HoldOneLight is £47.24, each with 5.0 from one UK review. Who each class suits is on the best gas weed burner page.

What the box has to contain

Read the included-components line before the temperature. On the Onkruidbrander and both Green Haven listings the cans are part of the offer: four, four and eight. That is the point of a wand for a first patio: fuel on the day it arrives, then you find out whether the piezo lasts. A hose title that says “with hose” is not a Calor POL fitting and it is not a regulator. Gloria’s bullets name the burner and a 5 m hose. A regulator is not in that contents line. Dapetz lists a butane gas torch, and UK reviews say the advertised regulator was missing or that a Silverline regulator did not fit. Yosoo’s UK reviews say the connector nut does not fit a Calor bottle. DVDVBOOM’s included-components field says No. HoldOneLight says the propane tank is not included. UK domestic propane regulators are nominally 37 mbar. Torch kits on UK trade pages are often about 0.5–4 bar. A barbecue regulator on a torch gives a weak flame. None of the eight rows here print a 0.5–4 bar regulator in the box. Thread sizes and the left-hand POL nut are on the butane or propane weed burner page.

Ignition and how far you can reach

Piezo is the button people expect and the part UK reviews on these wands keep retiring. On the Onkruidbrander, some buyers say it keeps sparking, and others say the spark wire melts or the spark stops, so they light it with a long lighter. Both Green Haven listings claim a piezo. The reviews say it dies after a few uses. Dapetz and Gloria do not claim a piezo. DVDVBOOM claims a trigger. HoldOneLight’s single UK review says the pilot was tricky at first. The Onkruidbrander prints 78 cm, and taller users say they stoop. Green Haven prints no length. A reviewer at 5 ft 8 in found the four-can wand short, and reviewers over 6 ft say the same of the eight-can title. Gloria’s dimensions are 94 × 23 × 37 cm, with a claimed 5 m hose, if you can connect the cylinder. Measure your arm against 78 cm before you trust a long-arm title.

When not to buy one

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, on 29 August 2025, advises against these tools when the ground and the foliage are dry, because fires have spread to fences, sheds and cars. If that is the week you are shopping, a knife or a wait is the purchase. Essex Fire recorded a shed fire from a weed burner on 14 July 2025. Joints in concrete or clay pavers are the job these wands are sold for. Tarmac softens because of the bitumen. Resin-bound surfaces and decking are a scorch risk. The Royal Horticultural Society says burners are a poor sole answer for deep-rooted perennial weeds on hard surfaces. Which surface can take a brief pass is the weed burner for patio and driveway page. Skip a five-star kit with one review if you need a record of the nut after a month, and skip any row whose title and bullets describe two different power sources. The 1000°C to 2100°C lines, and 180,000 BTU, are listing text. They do not time how long a seedling takes to wilt.

Common questions

Is a wand or a hose better for a small patio?
A wand, if the cans are in the box and the joints are a few metres of paving rather than a long drive. The Onkruidbrander at £14.95 includes four cans and prints 78 cm. A hose lance only earns its place when you already understand the cylinder and the regulator, which these hose listings mostly leave for you to buy.
Are the gas cans in the box?
On the Onkruidbrander and both Green Haven listings, yes: four, four and eight, as those pages state. The hose listings do not include a cylinder. Gloria does not name a regulator. Dapetz and Yosoo have UK reviews that say the supplied connection failed. DVDVBOOM’s contents field says No, and HoldOneLight says the propane tank is not included.
Does “with hose” mean it fits a Calor bottle?
No listing in this set prints a Calor POL match you can take as given. Yosoo’s UK reviews say the nut does not fit a Calor bottle. Dapetz reviews say a regulator was missing or a Silverline regulator did not fit. Gloria says standard gas tanks and does not name a regulator. A 37 mbar barbecue regulator is the domestic propane part. Check the valve you own before you trust the title.
Why do piezo buttons fail in the reviews?
On the Onkruidbrander, reviewers describe endless clicking or a melted spark wire, then a long lighter. On both Green Haven models the piezo is claimed and the reviews say it stops after a few uses. That is a pattern in this set, not a guarantee that your button dies on day one. A piezo claim is not a reason to pay more.
How long a lance do I need if I am tall?
The only wand length printed here is 78 cm, on the Onkruidbrander, and taller users report a stoop. Green Haven prints no length, with the same complaint from a 5 ft 8 in reviewer and from people over 6 ft. Gloria’s dimensions are in the 94 cm class, plus a claimed 5 m hose, if the cylinder fitting is one you have solved.
What should I skip if the weather is dry?
Skip lighting it. Royal Berkshire’s advice is to leave the tool alone when the ground and the foliage are dry, keep water ready when you do use one, and let the head cool with the gas off before it goes away. A dry week is a reason to use a knife or to wait. The listing’s temperature claim does not change that.
