Mini cordless drill buying guide

Updated: October 2026

A wardrobe, a picture hook or a resin pendant can all land on mini cordless drill. In this amazon.co.uk set that is a 12 V pistol, a pen for holes under about 3 mm, or a 3.6 V or 4 V driver sold with a few twist bits. This guide is the check before you pay, not a ranking. The top pick and the best value are on the [mini cordless drill comparison](/hub/screws-and-accessories/mini-cordless-drill). Prices and stars are the 16 October 2026 capture. Start with the hole. A 12 V pistol, such as the FAHEFANA, FADAKWALT or DEKOPRO, is for flat-pack and small holes in wood or plastic, with a chuck near 10 mm. A pen such as the Uolor holds bits around 0.6 mm to 2.2 mm. The MQFORU and the DongCheng are 3.6 V or 4 V drivers for screws. Twist bits in the case do not give them a 10 mm chuck. The Uolor is £26.99, and the 12 V kits run from £20.99 to £24.99. Pen against pistol is the mini drill pen vs cordless drill page. Chipboard is the cordless drill for flat-pack furniture page.

Chuck, torque and battery

A keyless chuck near 10 mm takes household twist bits. A pen collet takes bits under about 3 mm. A 1/4 inch hex takes screwdriver bits. If the bit will not enter, the tool is the wrong type. The FADAKWALT states 20 Nm and also 177 inch-pounds, so the listing disagrees with itself. The DEKOPRO states 12 Nm and the DongCheng 5 Nm. Set the clutch low for furniture screws. The best mini cordless drill page names a pick from the reviews, not from these lines. The FAHEFANA claims 2.0 Ah, the FADAKWALT 1.3 Ah, the DongCheng 2000 mAh. The DEKOPRO gives no amp-hour. Ignore the FADAKWALT 600 W field.

The charger is part of the tool

Electrical Safety First asks for a UK 3-pin plug and fuse, and for the original charger. Scottish Fire and Rescue says to charge while you are awake, off a bed and off an escape route. A USB lead is not a UK charger. The FADAKWALT includes a charger. The FAHEFANA includes a fast charger. The DEKOPRO, MQFORU, DongCheng and the pens name a USB or Type-C lead. If it will not charge in the first month, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives you 30 days to reject faulty goods.

What this set can and cannot do

The DEKOPRO names PZ1 and PZ2 and no battery capacity. For screws alone, the MQFORU at £13.99 (4.2 from 2,474) is the furniture driver. The DongCheng at £16.98 snapped a terminal screw on its lowest step. The NiuLumea at £6.49 has no star line. Call a professional for hidden cables, structural timber and repeated masonry. If a battery smokes, leave and call 999.

Common questions

When is a drill pen the right buy?
Buy a pen when every hole is under about 2 mm to 3 mm, in resin, beads, plastic or thin ply. The Uolor's bits run from 0.6 mm to 2.2 mm, at 5,000 to 18,000 rpm. That speed sounds powerful and still stalls if you ask for a household hole. A pen is the wrong buy for shelves, picture hooks and flat-pack. High stars on a pen do not predict those jobs.
What chuck do I need for ordinary bits?
You need a keyless chuck around 10 mm, which these listings call 9.53 mm or 0.38 inch. A domestic rule of thumb from Parkers is the same idea: 10 mm covers most household bits, and 13 mm is for larger ones. A pen collet and a 1/4 inch hex will not take a 6 mm twist bit. If you already own that bit, you are shopping for a pistol, not a pen.
Does a masonry bit in the box mean it drills brick?
No. The FADAKWALT includes masonry bits, and a UK review still says that when a hole is needed the tool behaves more like a screwdriver. UK reviews on the 12 V kits say concrete and brick are beyond them. Hammer action is a mechanism, not an accessory photo. If the wall is masonry, leave this category and get a tool that states hammer action with a blow rate.
Does the box include a UK 3-pin charger or only a USB lead?
Read the included-components line on the listing you are buying. The FADAKWALT lists a charger, and the FAHEFANA lists a fast charger. The DEKOPRO, MQFORU, DongCheng and the pens list USB or Type-C leads and do not name a UK 3-pin brick. Electrical Safety First still wants a proper UK plug and fuse on whatever you plug into the wall, and you should charge while you are awake, not overnight on a bed.
What if the tool is faulty in the first month?
The Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives you 30 days to reject faulty goods. A tool that will not charge, or a collet that will not hold a bit, is the sort of fault that right covers. Contact the seller through amazon.co.uk, describe the fault, and do not keep forcing a stalled motor. The Act sets the right. It does not guarantee how fast a particular refund arrives.
