Motorcycle ground anchor: Powered Cycle, not pedal Diamond

Updated: 22 October 2026

A policy that says ground anchor, and a forum that says Sold Secure Diamond, can send you to a bicycle kit or to a £14.56 row that is only Powered Cycle Silver. For a motorcycle, scooter, moped or e-bike at home, the shopping word is Powered Cycle. Pedal Cycle Diamond matches Powered Cycle Gold, not Powered Cycle Diamond. This page maps those grades onto the nine bolt-down listings on the [floor anchor comparison](/hub/screws-and-accessories/floor-anchor). It does not teach drilling and it does not name a single winner. Prices are GBP from 19 October 2026.

The two Sold Secure families

Pedal cycle ratings run Bronze through Diamond for ordinary bicycles. Powered cycle ratings run Gold and Diamond for motorcycles, scooters and e-bikes, the machines insurers class with engines or electric assist. The equivalence sentence to remember before any product tab opens: Pedal Cycle Diamond equals Powered Cycle Gold. It does not equal Powered Cycle Diamond. Diamond on the powered scale is the higher tier. Sold Secure’s public copy describes a longer tool list, including angle grinders and power tools, than Gold. That does not mean Gold invites a casual thief. It means you should not shop Pedal Diamond and assume you bought Powered Diamond. Magazine tables that mix Platinum insurance tiers with Sold Secure names are not this database. Use the powered-cycle ratings and ask your insurer which grade they require.

What that means for a motorcycle or e-bike

Treat e-bikes as powered cycle unless the insurer treats a specific model as pedal-only. Treat a 125 cc scooter the same way. The powered-cycle row on the certificate is the line that matters. Gold is reachable inside this nine. Diamond is not: no listing here carries a confirmed Powered Cycle Diamond. The GA1’s pedal Diamond is not the top motorcycle tier. If the policy names Diamond, you are outside this table. Motorcycle cover is contractual. ETA’s bicycle guidance is not a national rule for motorbikes, and no statute in these sources forces every bike to have an anchor. Phone the underwriter with the exact Sold Secure phrase before you drill. A fixed anchor forces a cut in place, which is what the timing tests measure. Diamond’s published description contemplates power tools. Silver, or a kit box that shouts Diamond, does not match a powered-cycle Gold policy.

Which anchors in this set qualify

Powered Cycle Gold in this data: Burg-Wächter GA1 at £17.66, Task Force at £24.16, ABUS Granit WBA 75 at £49.19, and ARTAGO 61 at £88. The £52.99 Burg-Wächter motorbike kit claims Gold for a 12 mm chain, a U-lock and a GA1 together. That is a bundle, not a higher grade on the plate. Do not use Oxford Brute Force (Powered Cycle Silver), ViPER or FD-Moto (no Sold Secure claim here) for a Gold motorcycle target. Stars do not upgrade those rows. Stated openings: Brute Force 12 mm, ABUS 14 mm, ARTAGO 15 mm, Task Force 16 mm. The GA1 prints no maximum. The £37.99 bike kit’s Diamond bullet is a bicycle bundle, not the GA1 database row. Pedal-bike storage belongs on the floor anchor buying guide. ARTAGO and the ABUS share powered Gold. Task Force adds the 16 mm opening and a fold-flat shackle. None of that is Diamond. One conditional name is on best floor anchor in this set: the ABUS when 14 mm is stated, the GA1 when the unprinted limit is acceptable.

What an anchor does not do

A ground anchor is only the fixed point. You still need a Sold Secure-rated chain or lock through the frame and wheels, routed so slack cannot be cut on the floor. Anchor without chain is not a finished lock-up. Chain without an anchor lets someone lift the bike. Sound concrete or brick still matters, not a slab. Wall versus floor is concrete floor or wall. Oxford’s AnchorForce-style wording says bolt-down strength depends on the substrate, so a Gold plate in bad concrete is still a weak system.

Common questions

What Sold Secure grades exist for a motorcycle?
On the powered-cycle scale the grades are Gold and Diamond. Pedal Cycle Diamond matches Powered Cycle Gold. It is not a motorcycle Diamond.
Is Pedal Cycle Diamond the same as Powered Cycle Diamond?
No. Pedal Diamond matches Powered Gold, not Powered Diamond. Sold Secure’s public copy puts angle grinders and power tools on the higher powered tier.
Is an e-bike a powered cycle?
Yes, on Sold Secure’s powered-cycle page, unless your insurer narrows an exception for a specific model.
Which anchors in this set are Powered Cycle Gold?
The GA1, Task Force, ABUS WBA 75 and ARTAGO 61, plus the £52.99 kit’s claimed Gold bundle. Brute Force is powered-cycle Silver. ViPER and FD-Moto show no Sold Secure claim here.
Is the Oxford Brute Force enough for a motorbike?
Only if Silver on the powered scale matches your policy. It is not enough if you needed Gold. The listing is about £14.56 and states a 12 mm chain.
Do I have to buy Powered Cycle Diamond?
Only if the policy says so. This set has no confirmed Diamond ASIN. Gold is the highest powered-cycle grade these nine listings reach.
Does the anchor replace the chain and the lock?
No. It is the immovable object. You still need a rated chain and lock. An anchor on its own is not a finished lock-up.
Which listing’s Diamond word is easy to misread?
The £37.99 bike kit’s Diamond bullet, set beside the GA1’s certificate lines. Read the database row, not the kit headline alone.
