A bit set is a box of screwdriver bits, almost always on a 1/4 inch hex shank, for a combi drill, an electric screwdriver or an impact driver. You judge a set by a tip that matches the recess, a holder that keeps the bit, spare tips, and a case that stays shut. S2 or chrome vanadium on the listing is a claim, not a wear test. Bosch GB pages cite ISO 1173 C 6.3 for the 1/4 inch hex. The [bit set buying guide](/hub/screws-and-accessories/bit-set/sub/bit-set-buying-guide) covers profiles, length, the holder and the case. ISO 1173 sets the drive-end size so a 6.3 mm hex fits a standard holder. Start with the recesses you will actually meet. Look for the extra lines on the screw head.

A bit set is a box of screwdriver bits, almost always on a 1/4 inch hex shank, for a combi drill, an electric screwdriver or an impact driver.

The best bit sets in detail

Bosch 32-piece Extra Hard

Rank 1

Bosch 32-piece Extra Hard

Our view

Across 26,022 amazon.co.uk reviews, the Bosch 32-piece extra-hard set (2607017319) is listed at £8.36 and rated 4.7, with 31 bits at 25 mm and a universal magnetic holder that locks the bit. The contents name Phillips, Pozidriv, slotted, Torx, security Torx and hex on a 1/4 inch shank, including two PH2 and two PZ2. Reviewers call the box layout easy to read and the bits robust for occasional DIY. The plastic case is described as easy to break, and the belt clip stops it sitting flat. One reviewer says the PH2 bits break quite easily, and some call the holder poor or dry. The warranty field says no warranty, and the Torx split on the included-components line does not match the scope bullet. It is the top pick here for a first combi drill, if you can accept a case that may crack and a drill-driver bit rather than an impact-described set.

Pros

  • 31 bits at 25 mm plus a locking magnetic quick-change holder
  • Two PH2 and two PZ2, plus security Torx, on a 1/4 inch shank
  • 4.7 from 26,022 reviews, rank 4 in Screwdriver Bit Sets, at £8.36
  • Box layout called easy to read

Cons

  • Plastic case described as easy to crack
  • Belt clip stops the case sitting flat
  • PH2 bits called easy to break in one review
  • Warranty field says no warranty

Best for: A first combi drill for ordinary PZ, PH, Torx and the occasional security screw.

Less suitable: An impact driver that already snaps tips, or a pocket case you need to stay shut.

Bosch 32-piece colour-coded

Rank 2

Bosch 32-piece colour-coded

∼£12

Our view

The Bosch 32-piece colour-coded set is listed at £11.77 and rated 4.7 from 16,169 amazon.co.uk reviews, with blue Phillips, green Pozidriv, red slotted, grey hex, yellow Torx and orange security Torx, plus a magnetic adapter. Reviewers describe a case a little bigger than a pack of cards, with the sizes stamped in the metal. A later replacement is described as a poorer holder, and one lid had to be taped shut. The compatibility field says Phillips only, which is narrower than the contents, and one bullet prints 130 × 67 × 45 cm against those pocket-case reviews. The item-length field says 25 mm. It is a compact colour-coded box if you check the lid clip when it arrives.

Pros

  • Colour-coded PH, PZ, slotted, hex, Torx and security Torx
  • Sizes stamped in the metal, plus a magnetic adapter
  • 4.7 from 16,169 reviews at £11.77
  • Pocket case, described as a little bigger than a pack of cards

Cons

  • A later lid clip failed and was taped shut, in one review
  • Holder called poorer than an older Bosch set
  • A bullet says 130 × 67 × 45 cm against pocket-case reviews
  • The spec line says Phillips only

Best for: A pocket box of colour-coded 25 mm bits, including security Torx, for a combi drill.

Less suitable: Anyone who needs the printed box size and the Phillips-only spec line to match the contents.

Common questions

The listing says blue Phillips, green Pozidriv, red slotted, grey hex, yellow Torx and orange security Torx.

Is the adapter magnetic?

The bullets say the adapter has built-in magnets so the screw holds in the bit.

What size does the listing print for the box?

One bullet says 130 x 67 x 45 cm. Reviews describe a pocket-sized case. Both are recorded. The centimetre figure is not treated as a measured case size.

Wera Bit-Check 30

Rank 3

Wera Bit-Check 30

∼£19

Our view

The Wera Bit-Check 30 is a 227 g pocket case listed at £19.13, rated 4.7 from 3,843 amazon.co.uk reviews, with Pozidriv, Phillips, Hex-Plus, Torx and slotted bits. One review gives the case as 135 × 65 × 20 mm, and another describes a pivoting cover so the rear row can move. Reviewers call the bits tough in daily use and mention a drill adaptor. The listing states a lifetime warranty against manufacturing fault, and the country of origin is the Czech Republic. There is no security Torx, which one reviewer wanted, and rust shows up on bits stored in a garage or indoors after light use. The bits sit close together, and one set arrived in a zip bag rather than Wera packaging. Choose it when the case has to live in a tool-bag pocket and security screws are someone else's job.

Pros

  • Pocket case, with a pivoting cover described in reviews
  • PH, PZ, Torx, slotted and Hex-Plus in the bullets
  • Lifetime warranty text against a manufacturing fault
  • 4.7 from 3,843 reviews, country of origin Czech Republic

Cons

  • No security Torx on the listing
  • Rust after light use, in a garage or indoors
  • Bits packed tight and fiddly to remove
  • One set arrived in a zip bag

Best for: A tool-bag pocket, for PH, PZ, Torx and slotted screws on a drill you already own.

Less suitable: Security Torx, or a damp garage where bare steel is left unoiled.

Bahco 100-piece

Rank 4

Bahco 100-piece

∼£19

Our view

The Bahco 59/S100BC is listed at £19.43 and rated 4.7 from 979 amazon.co.uk reviews, with a title and contents line of 100 colour-coded pieces and several of each common Torx, Phillips and Pozidriv size. Reviewers describe a solid case and bits that have not broken in daily use, and some praise a magnetic holder plus a lock. One UK review says the holders do not seem magnetic, which sits against the Magnetic Tip line on the listing. The Number of Pieces field says 1 while the title says 100, and the listed weight is 9 g. A reviewer who wanted more than one PZ3 called that size out as too few. Buy the duplicates if you treat the piece-count field and the magnet line as unchecked.

Pros

  • Title and contents say 100 pieces, with repeats of common sizes
  • Tamper Torx, Pozidriv and hex named on the listing
  • Solid case in reviews, and some praise a lock plus a magnet
  • 4.7 from 979 reviews at £19.43

Cons

  • One review says the holders do not seem magnetic
  • Number of Pieces field says 1 against a 100-piece title
  • Only one PZ3, in one review
  • Listed weight is 9 g

Best for: A larger colour-coded Bahco box when you want spare Torx, Phillips and Pozidriv tips.

Less suitable: Anyone who needs the magnet and the piece count to match the specification fields.

Common questions

How many pieces does the listing claim?

The title and included components say 100 pieces. The Number of Pieces field says 1. That field is not treated as a measured count.

Does the title include tamper Torx?

Yes. The title names coloured Torx and Torx tamper, plus slotted, Phillips, Pozidriv, hexagon and Robertson.

Bahco 54-piece

Rank 5

Bahco 54-piece

∼£15

Our view

The Bahco 59/S54BC is a 54-piece colour-coded set listed at £14.95, rated 4.7 from 790 amazon.co.uk reviews, for slotted, Phillips, Pozidriv, hex, Robertson, coloured Torx and tamper Torx. Reviewers use the long bits, which they put at about 150 mm, on awkward screws, and they call the orange case easy to spot in a tool bag. Those same long bits are fiddly to pull from the clips, and some people need a screwdriver to release them. A small slotted bit snapped on a rusted back box, a larger slotted bit warped on floorboard screws, and long shafts are described as breaking too easily. Reviews mention a locking holder and a magnetic holder, and some say they run wonky at speed. The listing weight of 9 g is copied as printed and is not a weighed case. Take it if you want long colour-coded bits in one box and you can work around stiff clips.

Pros

  • 54 colour-coded pieces, including tamper Torx and Robertson
  • Long bits of about 150 mm, in reviews, for awkward screws
  • Orange case called portable and easy to spot
  • 4.7 from 790 reviews at £14.95

Cons

  • Long bits are fiddly to extract, and some need a screwdriver
  • Holders described as wonky at speed
  • Slotted tips snapped or warped on stubborn screws
  • Listed weight is 9 g

Best for: Jobs that need long Torx and security bits in one orange case, if you can free the clips.

Less suitable: Side-loading a long bit, or a holder that has to stay true at speed.

Common questions

The included-components line says the 54-piece colour-coded set. A separate case specification is not on the listing. Reviews describe a portable orange case.

Bosch 43-piece Extra Hard

Rank 6

Bosch 43-piece Extra Hard

∼£15

Our view

The Bosch 43-piece extra-hard set is listed at £14.50 in S2 steel, rated 4.7 from 415 amazon.co.uk reviews, with PH, PZ, slotted, Torx and tamper Torx in the set name. Reviewers say the bits do not strip the way some other brands do, and one new drill owner treats the box as a starter kit. Individual bit lengths are not stated, and the listing does not include a screwdriver handle. One review says the Pick and Click catch does not keep the case closed. The page does not call the bits impact rated, though one buyer planned to try them in an impact screwdriver. The compatibility line only says standard screws and bolts, which is thinner than the set name. Open it when you already have a drill and you will check the catch before you carry it.

Pros

  • S2 steel named, and the bullets say it is heat treated
  • PH, PZ, slotted, Torx and tamper Torx in the set name
  • Reviewers say the tips strip screws less than some other brands
  • 4.7 from 415 reviews at £14.50

Cons

  • Case catch does not stay shut, in one review
  • No screwdriver handle listed
  • The listing does not call it impact rated
  • No piece-by-piece size list

Best for: A drill you already own, when you want S2 bits and tamper Torx in a Bosch box.

Less suitable: A first kit that still needs a handle, or a case you will throw in a bag unlatched.

Draper 127-piece

Rank 7

Draper 127-piece

∼£29

Our view

The Draper 82398 is a 127-piece set listed at £28.97 and 1.51 kg, rated 4.6 from 2,926 amazon.co.uk reviews, with 25 mm bits on a 1/4 inch hex and a quick-release magnetic holder. Reviewers describe a blue bi-fold case with a sliding lock, bits they call accurately made, and longer shank bits for recessed holes that are not in the specification table. The listing states a lifetime warranty. Case clips broke on first use in one review, and rust shows up after a month or after use. The material field says Blend while the bullets say chrome vanadium. The compatibility line names TX-STAR, Phillips, slotted and hex. Security bits appear in reviews, not on that line. It is a large 25 mm case if you already know which recesses are in the box.

Pros

  • 127 pieces at 25 mm on a 1/4 inch hex, with a quick-release holder
  • Blue bi-fold case with a sliding lock, in reviews
  • Lifetime warranty text on the listing
  • 4.6 from 2,926 reviews

Cons

  • Case clips broke on first use, in one review
  • Rust after a month and after use
  • Material field says Blend against a chrome-vanadium bullet
  • Pozidriv is not on the compatibility line

Best for: A large 25 mm case with a stated lifetime warranty, once you have checked the recesses in the box.

Less suitable: A Pozidriv-first woodscrew kit, or a case whose clips you cannot afford to lose.

Milwaukee Shockwave 38-piece

Rank 8

Milwaukee Shockwave 38-piece

∼£22

Our view

The Milwaukee Shockwave 4932492009 is a 38-piece set listed at £21.95 and 430 g, rated 4.6 from 551 amazon.co.uk reviews. The bullets name Torx, Phillips and hex, and reviewers who own a Milwaukee drill say the tips have stayed intact in heavy use and do not strip easily. The title is partly German, with 38-teilig and Neue Box, and a size table is not on the listing. Pozidriv and slotted are not named. The case is fiddly and painful to unload, and one undamaged parcel arrived with bits already broken. The captured listing does not quote a shock-zone sentence, so the impact wording here is the Shockwave name. Buy it to match a Milwaukee drill for Torx and Phillips, and keep a PZ2 from another set for ordinary woodscrews.

Pros

  • 38-piece Shockwave set, rated 4.6 from 551 reviews
  • Reviewers describe tips that stay intact in heavy DIY
  • Bought to match a Milwaukee drill
  • Listed at 430 g and £21.95

Cons

  • Pozidriv and slotted are not named
  • Case is fiddly, and bits arrived broken in one parcel
  • The title is partly German
  • No shock-zone sentence in the captured listing

Best for: A Milwaukee drill used on Torx, Phillips and hex, if you can live with a fiddly case.

Less suitable: Pozidriv woodscrews, or a set that has to arrive with every bit intact.

Faithfull 61-piece

Rank 9

Faithfull 61-piece

Our view

The Faithfull FAISBSET61 is a 61-piece chrome-vanadium set listed at £8.99, rated 4.6 from 240 amazon.co.uk reviews, with a 60 mm magnetic adaptor. The contents include three PZ2, three PH2, tamper Torx, hex security and spanner bits, and reviewers say the bits sit firmly in a clasp case listed at 400 g. Some reviewers call the tips average and say they will not last. An older review says the bits break easily and the holder was wonky. One review warns of rust if you leave the set damp. The drive-system field says Phillips only, which is narrower than that contents list. It is the best value here when you want security and spanner drives for under £9 and you will oil the bits after a damp job.

Pros

  • 61 pieces, including three PZ2 and three PH2
  • Tamper Torx, hex security and spanner in the contents
  • 60 mm magnetic adaptor and a clasp case reviewers call solid
  • £8.99, rated 4.6 from 240 reviews

Cons

  • Some reviewers say the bits will not last
  • An older review calls the holder wonky and says bits broke easily
  • Rust if the set is stored damp
  • Drive-system field says Phillips only

Best for: A low spend on security Torx, hex security and spanner bits, plus spare PZ2 and PH2.

Less suitable: Daily driving if you need a large review count, or storage in a damp shed.

Amazon Basics 42-piece

Rank 10

Amazon Basics 42-piece

∼£10

Our view

The Amazon Basics 42-piece set is listed at £10.08 in S2 steel, rated 4.5 from 6,226 amazon.co.uk reviews, with 32 bits at 25 mm, eight at 50 mm, a 1/4 inch magnetic holder and a 3/8 inch socket adapter. The title calls the design impact resistant for impact drivers. Reviewers praise a strong magnet and a sturdy latch, and they say the bits survive a few uses. The named profiles are Phillips, slotted and Torx, so Pozidriv is not on the contents line. The shank-style field says Ball End, which the bullets do not explain. Bits still break over time, as one reviewer notes for this set and for others. Use it on an impact driver for Phillips, slotted and Torx, and keep a separate PZ2 if your woodscrews show the extra lines.

Pros

  • 32 bits at 25 mm and eight at 50 mm, plus a magnetic holder
  • Impact-resistant claim and S2 named in the title
  • 3/8 inch socket adapter and a latch reviewers call sturdy
  • 4.5 from 6,226 reviews at £10.08

Cons

  • Pozidriv is not named
  • Shank field says Ball End, which the bullets do not explain
  • Bits still break over time, in one review
  • No security bits named

Best for: An impact driver used on Phillips, slotted and Torx, with 50 mm bits in the same case.

Less suitable: UK woodscrews with a Pozidriv recess, or security Torx.

SWANLAKE 232-piece

Rank 11

SWANLAKE 232-piece

∼£28

Our view

The SWANLAKE 232-piece set is listed at £27.99 and 3.07 kg, rated 4.5 from 2,159 amazon.co.uk reviews, with Phillips, Pozidriv, slotted, Torx, tamper Torx, spanner, hex and a ratchet. One review cites Torx from T4 to T40, and reviewers like the duplicates and the extension bars. Bits fall out of the moulding when the case opens, including in transit, and more than one review says a bit snapped on first use. Rust appears after a little rain, even though the bullet says a sandblasted finish increases corrosion resistance. One reviewer counted fewer distinct pieces than 232 because of duplicates, and the box does not include a screwdriver handle. Use it as a heavy security assortment only if you re-seat the foam before you carry it.

Pros

  • Wide security range, with Torx down to T4 in one review
  • Duplicates of common sizes, plus holders and extension bars
  • Ratchet and nut driver named in the bullets
  • 4.5 from 2,159 reviews

Cons

  • Bits fall out when the case opens, including in transit
  • Tips snapped on first use in more than one review
  • Rust after rain, despite the corrosion-resistance bullet
  • 3.07 kg, and one count found duplicates inside the 232

Best for: Rare security profiles and small Torx, if you will re-pack the case before you move it.

Less suitable: A van kit you open one-handed, or steel you will leave out in the rain.

Reviewers call the long tips handy on a drill and the tips magnetic. The bits arrived in a plastic bag, not a case. One review says the edges wore quickly, and the model code is GIM041-H-DE. Security Torx is not named. It fits an impact driver that needs a 150 mm PZ2, if you already have a place for loose bits.

Pros

  • PH, PZ, Torx, slotted and hex itemised from 25 mm to 150 mm
  • Two PZ2 at 25 mm and at 50 mm, plus a 150 mm PZ2 and PH2
  • Impact shock-absorbent zone and a 75 mm magnetic holder
  • £12.99, rated 4.5 from 195 reviews

Cons

  • Bulk pack: reviews say a plastic bag, not a case
  • Edges worn quickly, in one review
  • 195 reviews, fewer than the other impact sets here
  • No security Torx named

Best for: An impact driver that needs a 150 mm PZ2 or PH2, if you can store loose bits.

Less suitable: A tool bag that relies on a latched case, or security screws.

Common questions

Does this set come in a case?

The title says bulk pack. Reviews say the bits arrived in a plastic bag.

Which lengths are itemised?

25 mm, 50 mm, 75 mm and 150 mm, plus one 75 mm magnetic holder. PZ2 and PH2 are the 150 mm tips.

Is Pozidriv included?

Yes. The title and the size bullet include PZ as well as PH, Torx, slotted and hex.

How we compared

Prices, stars and review counts are the amazon.co.uk figures captured on 15 October 2026. The figure beside each set is an editorial score from 0 to 100, not a laboratory test. Points come from the star band, the review count, Pozidriv named on the listing, security bits, a holder or a magnet, a case reviews do not describe as cracking or dumping bits, a top-10 rank in Screwdriver Bit Sets, a stated lifetime warranty, and impact resistance in the title or the bullets. A product-line name on its own does not count. Deductions cover contradictory lines, snapped tips, rust, bits broken on arrival, a warranty field that says none, and a listed weight of 9 g. The top pick is the highest score. The best value is the next Pozidriv set by price after that pick. The weights below group those checks and sum to 100. Eight public UK sources sit under the page.

1

Stars and review count

40%

A 4.7 scores more than a 4.6 or a 4.5. Review count is banded from under 400 up to 20,000 or more. A 4.7 from 240 reviews does not match a 4.7 from 26,022.

2

Pozidriv and security bits

20%

Pozidriv named on the listing is a point. Security Torx, hex security or spanner bits are a further point. A Phillips-only line against a wider contents list is a clash, not a match.

3

Holder and case

15%

A holder or a magnet named on the listing keeps the screw and the bit. A case that reviews describe as cracking, unlatching or dumping bits does not score the case points.

4

Impact claim

10%

Impact resistance has to be in the title or the bullets. A product-line name on its own does not count. The claim is not a shared test that the tip will not break.

5

Rank, warranty and clashes

15%

A rank inside the top 10 of Screwdriver Bit Sets and a stated lifetime warranty add points. Contradictory lines, early breakage, rust, bits broken on arrival and a 9 g listed weight take points off.

Bit set buying guide

Start with the recess, not the piece count. UK woodscrews are usually Pozidriv. Then check spare PZ2 tips, a 1/4 inch holder, bit length and a case that stays shut. Buy an impact-described set only if you already snap ordinary tips. Prices in this set run from about £8.36 to about £28.97 on amazon.co.uk.

What is a screwdriver bit set?

A bit set is screwdriver bits for a combi drill, an electric screwdriver or an impact driver. On this shelf the shank is a 1/4 inch hex. ISO 1173 sets the drive-end size so a 6.3 mm hex fits a standard holder. Bosch Professional’s GB pages cite Drive ISO 1173 C 6.3 for that hex. These sets are not insulated tools. Cam-out can throw a bit. Start with the recesses you will actually meet. Pozidriv (PZ) is the usual UK woodscrew. Look for the extra lines on the screw head.

Best for

  • A first combi drill, if you want about 30 to 45 pieces, spare PZ2 tips, a holder and a case
  • Awkward screws that need a long Torx or security bit, if you can free stiff clips
  • An impact driver that already snaps ordinary tips, once Pozidriv and Phillips are matched

Not ideal for

  • Anyone who treats Pozidriv and Phillips as the same bit
  • A damp shed if the steel will be left unoiled, or a case that dumps its bits
  • Live electrics, a gas appliance, a consumer unit, or a stated torque

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

    Mixing Pozidriv and Phillips

A PZ bit damages a Phillips head. A Phillips bit can cam out of a Pozidriv screw. Look for the extra lines on the woodscrew before you pick the tip. Amazon Basics and Milwaukee do not name Pozidriv on these listings.

  2. 2

Buying the piece count instead of PZ2

Draper is 127 pieces and SWANLAKE is 232. Neither headline means spare PZ2 tips. Faithfull lists three PZ2. The Bosch 32-piece extra-hard set lists two. A compact set with duplicates beats a heavy case of rare drives you will not use.

  3. 3

Side-loading a long bit, or trusting a steel name

Reviews say long bits snap when you lever them. S2, extra hard and chrome vanadium are listing claims, not a test that the tip will not break. A bit that arrives broken is a fault. A bit you snapped as a lever is not.

What to weigh up

Profiles, duplicates and length

High

Pozidriv comes first for ordinary UK woodscrews, then Phillips, slotted and Torx. Security Torx, hex and spanner bits are the next step, not the first. Faithfull names tamper Torx, hex security and spanner. Both Bosch 32-piece sets and both Bahco sets name security Torx. Amazon Basics, Wera, GEINXURN and Milwaukee do not name security Torx on these listings. Draper’s compatibility line does not either, though reviews mention security bits. Duplicates matter more than the headline count.

Holder, case, impact claim and evidence

High

A 1/4 inch hex fits a standard holder. A magnet keeps the screw. A lock keeps the bit overhead. The Bosch 32-piece extra-hard set lists a magnetic quick-change holder. Faithfull lists a 60 mm magnetic adaptor. The Bahco 100-piece specification says Magnetic Tip, and one review says the holders do not seem magnetic. Read the contents line when the two disagree. Wera and Bahco cases are praised. The Bosch colour-coded lid was taped shut in one review. SWANLAKE bits fall out of the moulding.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

First combi drill

You want about 30 to 45 pieces, spare PZ2 tips, a holder and a case. The Bosch 32-piece extra-hard set is about £8.36, with two PZ2, two PH2, security Torx and a magnetic quick-change holder. It is 4.7 from 26,022 reviews. The plastic case is described as easy to crack, and the listing does not call the bits impact rated.

Long Torx and security bits

You want long bits for awkward screws and tamper Torx in one box. The Bahco 54-piece set is about £14.95, rated 4.7 from 790 reviews, and reviews put the long bits at about 150 mm. The clips are fiddly, long shafts are described as breaking too easily, and the listed weight is 9 g.

Impact driver, snapped tips

Buy an impact-described set only if ordinary tips already snap, and still match Pozidriv against Phillips first. The GEINXURN 41-piece set is about £12.99, with PZ2 from 25 mm to 150 mm and an impact shock-absorbent zone in the bullets. Reviews say it arrived in a bag, not a case, and it has 195 reviews.

Common questions about bit sets

Which bit set is the top pick for a first combi drill?
For a first combi drill, the top pick is the Bosch 32-piece extra-hard set at about £8.36. It is 4.7 from 26,022 amazon.co.uk ratings, with Phillips, Pozidriv, slotted, Torx, security Torx and hex, two PZ2 bits, and a magnetic quick-change holder. The plastic case is described as easy to crack, the warranty field says none, and the listing does not call the bits impact rated. A higher price on this shelf is not a higher star rating.
How much does a screwdriver bit set cost on amazon.co.uk?
On 15 October 2026 these twelve amazon.co.uk listings run from about £8.36 to about £28.97. About £8 to £12 covers the Bosch 32-piece extra-hard at £8.36, Faithfull at £8.99, Amazon Basics at £10.08 and the Bosch colour-coded 32 at £11.77. About £13 to £20 covers GEINXURN, Bosch 43, Bahco 54, Wera and Bahco 100. Milwaukee, SWANLAKE and Draper sit about £22 to £29. These are the kept listings, not every UK shop, and prices move.
Are Pozidriv and Phillips the same screwdriver bit?
No. Pozidriv has extra lines in the recess. Phillips does not. A Pozidriv bit damages a Phillips head, and a Phillips bit can cam out of a Pozidriv screw. Screwfix and Bolts.co.uk both say to match the recess. Amazon Basics and the Milwaukee set on this page do not name Pozidriv. If your woodscrews show those extra lines, keep a PZ2. Ordinary wood screws are where that match decides the bit.
Do you need an impact bit set?
Only if you own an impact driver and ordinary tips already snap. Amazon Basics and GEINXURN state impact resistance on the listing. Milwaukee is named Shockwave, and the captured listing does not quote a shock-zone sentence, so the name alone is not scored as an impact claim. An impact claim is not a test that the tip will not break. Match Pozidriv and Phillips first. GEINXURN includes PZ2. Amazon Basics does not name Pozidriv.
What if a bit in the set arrives broken?
The Consumer Rights Act 2015 section 9 requires satisfactory quality, including durability. GOV.UK describes a refund when goods are faulty or not as described, and a six-month period in which the trader shows the fault was not present at purchase. A bit that arrives broken is in that scope. A bit snapped because you used it as a lever is not. A lifetime warranty on the Draper or Wera listing does not replace that Act. These bits are not insulated tools.
Does S2 or extra hard mean the bit will not break?
No. S2, extra hard and chrome vanadium are claims on the listing. They are not a wear test of these sets, and they do not mean the tip will not break. Reviews still describe snapped PH2 bits, edges that wore early, and long bits that failed when side-loaded. The Bosch 32-piece extra-hard set does not name S2. GEINXURN and Amazon Basics do. Read the review count beside the steel name before you treat the word as a result.
When should you stop and call a professional?
Stop if the screw is in a gas appliance or a consumer unit, if a rounded fixing holds a stair or a brake part, if the job states a torque, or if a business issues the tools for all-day use. At work, PUWER 1998 regulation 4 requires suitable equipment used only for suitable work. These sets are not insulated. Cam-out can throw a bit. A stripped recess is a reason to stop, not a reason to lean on a long bit.

Our verdict

For a first combi drill, the top pick is the Bosch 32-piece extra-hard set at about £8.36. It scores 70, the highest figure here, with 4.7 from 26,022 amazon.co.uk ratings, Pozidriv, security Torx, two PZ2 bits and a locking magnetic holder. The plastic case is described as easy to crack, one review says the PH2 bits break quite easily, and the warranty field says none. The best value is the Faithfull FAISBSET61 at about £8.99. It is the next Pozidriv set by price, with tamper Torx, hex security and spanner bits. Its score stays at 46 because of 240 reviews, breakage and rust.
