Concrete sander buying guide

Updated: 21 October 2026

You are sorting corded handhelds on amazon.co.uk, and the kept prices run from £77.99 to £229.89. A concrete sander buying guide starts before that sort. These tools are diamond-disc grinders for a garage lip, a patch of thinset, a coating, or an edge. They are not paper orbitals, and they are not the walk-behind that levels an open slab. The [concrete sander comparison](/hub/sanders/concrete-sander) lists the six listings with shelf prices and star lines from a 19 October 2026 capture. Peter F. read amazon.co.uk listings and public UK guidance. There was no lab test. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What you are actually buying

A handheld here is a corded body, a diamond cup, and usually variable speed plus a dust cover, for a step, a doorway, or a bump. PWM Sales describes handhelds for edges and an open floor as a different machine. Their walk-behinds start around £1,489 excluding VAT. One UK review of the 7 kg LengSuaa said about 30 square metres was too much for the back and the machine. Asbestos coatings, or a workplace COSHH duty, are a reason to call a contractor. Which listing fits a small patch is on the best concrete grinder page.

Disc size and what is in the box

Both MAXXT pages state 125 mm, also sold as 5 inches. WUDLEP, LengSuaa, JAOGAUS, and YUCHENGTECH sit around 180 mm, sold as 7 inch. A larger disc covers more and weighs more. It does not make a floor grinder. The disc's maximum speed must not sit below the tool's speed. A cutting disc slices. A grit-18 cup rips, and it is not a polish. On the £138.99 MAXXT the title says two diamond discs and the components field only reads dis. On the £118.99 MAXXT a disc is not confirmed. JAOGAUS lists a 180 mm diamond disc and a 200 mm wire cup, which is not a diamond face on sound concrete. A general grinder plus a cup is covered on concrete grinder vs angle grinder.

Dust port is not dust control

Every useful listing mentions a cover, a hood, or a vacuum port. None includes an M-class or H-class extractor. HSE says uncontrolled grinding can peak around 1–2 mg/m³ of respirable crystalline silica, against a GB limit of 0.1 mg/m³ as an 8-hour average. A household vacuum with a HEPA filter dropped in is not that system. One UK review said an attachment helped. Another said dust still spread through the house. Assigned protection factor 20 is on concrete grinder dust extraction.

Plug and voltage

UK mains are 230 V, and a domestic socket takes a BS 1363 plug. A 110 V tool needs a site transformer and the matching yellow connector. LengSuaa states a 1.7 m UK plug cord and no separate voltage, so read the rating plate. YUCHENGTECH's table says 230 V and does not state the plug shape. JAOGAUS states neither. The £138.99 MAXXT says corded 230 V, then a row says 20V Battery. Do not buy it as cordless. WUDLEP's title requires a US-to-UK adapter, the table says 220 V, and one UK review says 110 V. This guide does not pick one voltage from those lines.

Duty cycle and when to stop shopping

Stated power runs from 1500 W to a claimed 3800 W. That is not a measured life. The £138.99 MAXXT shows 3.8 from 146 ratings, with UK reviews of burn-out or smoke and also of small jobs that finished. YUCHENGTECH's 3800 W and JAOGAUS's claimed 2800 W have no rating row. A 50 percent less fatigue line on the £229.89 listing is copy. Hire a walk-behind for the open middle of a slab and keep a shrouded handheld for the edge.

Common questions

Is 125 mm or 7 inch the better buy?
Choose 125 mm when the patch is small and you want a lighter tool at an edge. Choose about 180 mm, sold as 7 inch, when you want more coverage per pass and can manage the weight, up to 7 kg on the LengSuaa listing. Neither diameter levels an open floor. The disc's maximum speed still has to sit at or above the tool's speed.
Do I need a dust extractor as well as the tool?
Yes, if you are grinding concrete, screed, or mortar. A shroud in the box is only the hood. HSE expects an M-class or H-class extractor on the tool, plus respiratory protection of assigned protection factor at least 20. None of these six listings includes that extractor. A household vacuum is not the same system.
Will a US plug or a 110 V tool run on a kitchen socket?
A US plug does not fit a BS 1363 socket, and an adapter does not fix a voltage mismatch. A 110 V tool needs a site transformer and the matching connector. WUDLEP's title, 220 V table, and a 110 V review disagree, so do not assume it belongs on a domestic socket.
Do more watts mean it will last a whole floor?
No. Higher stated watts are not a life test. The 1500 W listing with 146 ratings includes UK reports of smoke after short use, and a 7 kg tool was called too much for about 30 square metres. Open slabs belong on a walk-behind.
Should the diamond disc already be in the box?
It helps, and you should still read the components line. LengSuaa, WUDLEP, JAOGAUS, and YUCHENGTECH name a diamond wheel. One MAXXT names two discs in the title and is vague in the components field. The other does not confirm a disc. A cutting disc is the wrong spare.
When is a handheld the wrong purchase?
When the area is an open floor, when you need a flatness specification, when a coating might contain asbestos, or when a workplace COSHH assessment applies. A handheld remains a reasonable tool for an edge, a step, or a small bump, once extraction and a mask are already planned.
