How to bolt down a Burg-Wächter safe

Updated: October 2026

You already have the box. The question is how to bolt down a Burg-Wächter safe without inventing holes, and without telling yourself a 5 kg Favor is safe because it is behind the towels. This page maps what each listing says you can fix to, and when you stop. If you are still choosing, use the [Burg-Wächter safe comparison](/hub/safes-and-secure-storage/burg-waechter-safe) and the [buying guide](/hub/safes-and-secure-storage/burg-waechter-safe/sub/burg-waechter-safe-buying-guide). What each listing says you can fix to

Use the holes the product names. The FP 22 K is a floor mount, prepared for screws up to 6 mm. Favor S3 K is recessed, with a rear-wall anchor, and the bullets include mounting material. Favor S3 E is a floor mount, and the bullets also include mounting material. Favor S5 K is flush mount, with a rear-wall anchor. Where amazon.co.uk says floor and the maker page says wall, follow the holes in the steel you unpacked. Do not add a floor hole because another ASIN is a floor mount.

Whether the screws are in the box

On the Favor side, the UK page includes wall fixing material, and the S3 K and S3 E bullets list mounting material. The S5 K components line names the safe and two keys and does not repeat a kit. Empty the carton and match bolts to holes. The FP 22 K is the clear gap: fixing materials are not included, and the screws it is prepared for are up to 6 mm. This extract does not give a length or a drill diameter. Neither the Favor pages nor the FP 22 K tells you to add holes.

What the wall or floor must be

A Favor here is about 4.4 kg to 6.6 kg on the listing weights, and the FP 22 K is listed at 9 kg. All of them are liftable. Plasterboard on its own will not stop someone pulling the safe off the wall. Prefer masonry, or a timber joist you can hit squarely, over the middle of a floorboard. Sit the body flush. If you only have a stud wall, or floorboards with no joist under the holes, stop. Why hiding is not fixing is on home office safe. Anchoring does not become EN 14450 because the bolts are tight. That limit is on fireproof box or furniture safe.

When not to drill

Stop if you cannot say what is behind the surface. If you rent, get the landlord’s consent in writing before you bolt into their floor. Stop if the only way to line the holes up is to drill new ones through the back or the base. Move the safe or ask an installer. Stop as well if the safe is locked and you cannot open it. Forcing a lock turns a jam into a destroyed door. Call a locksmith. These four products are not gun cabinets, and bolting one down does not make it BS 7558 storage.

Common questions

Does the Favor include the bolts?
The UK Favor page says fixing material is included, and the S3 K and S3 E bullets list mounting material. Unpack and match the pieces to the holes. The S5 K components line here names the safe and two keys and does not repeat a kit, so confirm that carton rather than assuming the range sentence covers every ASIN. This page does not give a bolt length.
Does the FP 22 K include the bolts?
The maker page says fixing materials are not included, and the screws it is prepared for are up to 6 mm. The amazon.co.uk listing says Floor Mount and does not say the screws are in the box. Buy the fixings for this model. Do not copy a drill diameter from a Chubb or Burton guide. Those guides are for their own products.
Floor or wall for each listing?
The FP 22 K is floor. The S3 E listing says floor mount. The S3 K is recessed with a rear-wall anchor. The S5 K is flush mount with a rear-wall anchor. The UK range page speaks of wall mounting for Favor generally. Use the holes in the unit you unpacked when the sentences do not match.
Can I fix a light safe to plasterboard only?
No, not if the bolts are meant to stop someone carrying the safe away. These boxes weigh about 5 kg to 9 kg. Plasterboard alone will not hold that against a determined pull. You want masonry or a joist. A plasterboard-only fixing is the same mistake as leaving the safe loose in the cupboard.
Should I drill extra holes in the back?
Not from anything printed on these listings. One S3 K review mentioned only two rear holes and a worry about the warranty. The Favor pages say no guarantee, and the FP 22 K says two years. Neither tells you to add holes. If the existing holes miss the joist, move the safe or get advice.
When do I stop and call someone?
Stop if the wall is only plasterboard on a stud, if you cannot find a joist, if you are about to drill a new hole in the safe, or if you do not know what is in the wall. Stop if the safe is locked and the key or code has failed. Do not force the lock. Anchoring a Favor does not turn it into an EN-rated safe.
