Fireproof box or furniture safe

Updated: October 2026

You are trying to buy one box for two fears: a fire that takes the will, and a burglar who takes the cash. In this amazon.co.uk set, a fireproof box or a furniture safe answers one of those fears, and none of the four listings shows both certificates. Prices and locks sit on the [Burg-Wächter safe comparison](/hub/safes-and-secure-storage/burg-waechter-safe). The Products Compared editorial team wrote this on 16 October 2026. We did not burn a box or attack one. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

What the FP 22 K listing claims

The FP 22 K (B07RNGPQMR) is a key-lock document box at £42.00, and the top pick when the job is a stated fire time: 30 minutes up to 1,093°C, 5.6 litres, 9 kg, and 4.4 from 1,548 reviews. Burg-Wächter’s page ties that sentence to UL 72 and an internal temperature under 90°C. The amazon.co.uk file does not print “UL 72”, and UL 72 is not EN 1047-1. The 1,093°C figure does not mean the chest stops someone with tools. The question order is on the buying guide.

What the Favor listings claim

None of the three Favor listings states a fire time. S3 E and S5 K say a single-walled metal body. What they claim is a small steel box, with an indicative £1,000 cash and £10,000 valuables, below the EN 14450 bands Secured by Design quotes for S1 and S2. S3 E is the electronic one at £57.99, the best value when you want a code. S5 K is 18.6 litres at £80.50. S3 K at £52.34 is the awkward key listing: the title says electronic and the lock field says key. Which to buy, once you have chosen steel, is on the best Burg-Wächter safe in this set.

Why one box does not do both

A fire test and a burglary test are different, and this set does not sell both in one ASIN. The FP 22 K has the fire sentence and no EN 1143-1, EN 14450, or Sold Secure line. The Favors have steel and no fire sentence. Chubbsafes sells a HomeSafe S2 30P described as EN 14450 S2 plus 30-minute paper protection. That model is not an ASIN here. You can buy the FP 22 K for the papers, a Favor for the cash, or leave the set. If the schedule already says S1, S2, or Grade 0, De Raat’s bands sit above the Favor £1,000 line.

The practical limits reviewers hit

On the FP 22 K, a loose A4 sheet may go in with curled corners. A folder often does not. The listing says Not Water Resistant, so a temperature claim is not a claim that the paper stays dry. Nine kilograms is still portable, and the floor screws are not in the box. How to use the holes is on how to bolt down a Burg-Wächter safe. On the Favor side the fire performance is not stated. A 5 kg S3 can be carried out if it is not fixed, and bolting it down does not create a fire rating.

Common questions

Is the FP 22 K a safe or a fire box?
It is a key-lock document box with a stated fire time of 30 minutes up to 1,093°C, 5.6 litres, at £42.00. The listing does not show EN 1143-1, EN 14450, or Sold Secure, and safe.co.uk lists its insurance rating as none. Call it a fire-protection document box. It is also Not Water Resistant. Calling it a burglary safe overclaims the page.
Do the Favor listings in this set claim a fire test?
No. The S3 K, S3 E, and S5 K listings do not state a fire time. S3 E and S5 K state a single-walled metal body. S3 K states metal and does not state single wall. The UK range page describes a cupboard safe with an indicative cash line, not a fire test. If you need a minute-count, these three are the wrong side of the fork.
Will the FP 22 K keep paper dry after fire-service water?
The listing says Not Water Resistant. Nothing on the amazon.co.uk page claims the contents stay dry if the box is hosed. The fire sentence is about time and temperature. The maker’s UL 72 wording, which the listing does not print, is about an internal temperature under 90°C. Dry paper after water is a separate claim this ASIN does not make.
Is UL 72 the same as EN 1047-1?
No. Burg-Wächter links the FP 22 K to UL 72 on its own page. EN 1047-1 paper classes are S 60 P and S 120 P. A UL 72 line is not that certificate, and the amazon.co.uk listing does not print UL 72. You can quote “30 minutes up to 1,093°C” without upgrading it into a European data-cabinet class.
Can one of these four do both jobs?
No. None shows both a stated fire time and a burglary grade. The FP 22 K has the fire sentence only. The Favors have no fire sentence in this extract. A cabinet that combines a grade such as EN 14450 S2 with a paper class exists outside this set. If you need both, buy that class, or buy two boxes and accept two limits.
