Home office safe UK

Updated: October 2026

You keep a passport, a few cards, and a little cash in a desk or a cupboard, and you want a home office safe in the UK that a visitor cannot open by pulling a drawer. In this Burg-Wächter set the match is a Favor, fixed, and only for sums inside the maker’s indicative line. The four listings sit on the [Burg-Wächter safe comparison](/hub/safes-and-secure-storage/burg-waechter-safe). The Products Compared editorial team wrote this on 16 October 2026. We did not test a break-in. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

What belongs in a home-office box

Put in the current passport, a spare card, a small amount of cash, perhaps a spare key. The UK Favor page gives an indicative £1,000 cash and £10,000 valuables. That is the maker’s line, not your insurer’s. There is no fire time on these Favor pages, so a will you care about in a fire belongs with the FP 22 K. A firearm or a shotgun does not belong here: the Home Office handbook points gun cabinets at BS 7558:1992. If the home is a registered title in England and Wales, the register is the record. The lock trap is on the buying guide.

Which Favor size fits the furniture

Measure the cupboard first. The S3 outside height is about 200 mm. The S3 K listing says 10.2 litres. The S3 E bullets say 8.6 litres. The S3 K weight fights itself: 4.39 kg as the item and 24.1 kg in a bullet, against 5.0 kg on the UK table. Choose the S5 K when the cupboard can take 250 × 350 × 250 mm and you want 18.6 litres at £80.50. S5 is a size step, not EN 14450 S2. If any side of the void is under 250 mm, stay with an S3. Which key listing is worth the money is on the best Burg-Wächter safe in this set.

Key or code at a desk

The code model is the Favor S3 E at £57.99, the best value for a PIN: a mechanical emergency lock, four AA batteries, and 4.3 from 832 reviews. One UK review says the emergency key is too thin to open the flap. Fit the batteries, test the key, and keep it outside the safe. Skip the Favor S3 K at £52.34 until the title matches the lock. The title says electronic. Lock Type says a double-bit key. The S5 K is the larger key option. Control Type says Button control, which is not a keypad. The FP 22 K is the wrong shape unless the real problem is fire and paper.

The cash line and the hide

Treat £1,000 cash as a point to discuss with the insurer, not as cover you have bought. Hiding is not fixing. A 5 kg box on a high shelf is luggage once someone looks. Bolt through the holes into masonry or a joist. The steps are on how to bolt down a Burg-Wächter safe. If you rent, agree the holes before you drill. Above the indicative line, this is the wrong shelf.

Common questions

Is £1,000 cash a sensible ceiling for this set?
It is the maker’s indicative line on the UK Favor page, with £10,000 for valuables. It is a point at which to ask the insurer, not a sum the policy will automatically pay. These listings do not print EN 14450. Secured by Design’s S1 and S2 bands are higher. If the cash is already more than you can lose, this set is the wrong shelf.
Key or code for a home office?
Choose the S3 E at £57.99 if more than one person needs access and you will keep a tested emergency key outside the safe. Choose the S5 K, or the S3 K only after the lock field confirms a double-bit key, if one person holds the keys elsewhere. The S3 K title says electronic. Do not buy that title when you mean a PIN. Reviews of the S3 E include a key too thin for the flap and keys locked inside.
Do I still lock the house deeds if the title is registered?
In England and Wales the register is the record of a registered title, not the old paper envelope. You can keep copies in the cupboard. You do not have to treat the Favor as the legal store for the title. Unregistered deeds, if you still have them, are a different pile, and an 8.6-litre or 18.6-litre box is only as good as the space and the fixing.
Can I leave it unfixed because it is hidden?
No. A hidden 5 kg box is still something someone can carry out. The Favor page includes fixing material, and the listing weights are liftable. Concealment might slow a casual glance. It does not replace bolts into masonry or a joist. If the only wall is plasterboard, a plug has not finished the job.
When is a certified S1 or S2 the honest next step?
When the insurer has named EN 14450, or when the cash sits in the bands those grades are described against, roughly £2,000 / £20,000 for S1 and £4,000 / £40,000 for S2 in Secured by Design’s guidance. Underwriters differ, so the policy wins. A Favor at £52 to £80 does not become that grade because it lives in a home office.
