How much does a router cost UK: the price the box hides

Palm router and a DeWalt plunge router on a bench beside a separate battery pack

UK router prices: palm bodies from £47.49 to £72.99, a DeWalt plunge at £324.98 tool only, then the battery and charger the UK listing still leaves out.

You have two tabs open. One yellow palm router is £49.99. The other is a DeWalt plunge body at £324.98. Both mention a DeWalt pack, and both leave that pack out of the box. How much a router costs UK shoppers is the amazon.co.uk price of the body, then the battery and the charger.

In the ten listings in the comparison, nine palm bodies run from £47.49 to £72.99. The only DeWalt is the DCW620B at £324.98. All ten are tool only. The £49.99 TOPWAY is a fixed palm trimmer. The £324.98 DCW620B is a half-inch plunge router, and the listing says batteries are required.

A charger and a pack can cost more than the palm body. That is a rule of thumb: this pass did not price a DeWalt starter kit. The figures come from amazon.co.uk files, DeWalt’s UK pages and one Axminster price for 16 October 2026. No lab test was run. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Checks sit on the buying guide, and the ten rows on the DeWalt router comparison.

In short

A palm body here is £47.49 to £72.99, a third-party trimmer sold without a battery. The DCW620B is £324.98, also bare, and it is a half-inch plunge router. A 230 V DWE625KT was £339.98 including VAT at Axminster, a shop price, not the amazon shelf. Add a pack and a charger before you call a cordless figure a finished kit.

Three different machines, three prices

You are choosing among a palm trimmer, a compact router with two bases, and a half-inch plunge router. The palm tools here cost £47.49 to £72.99 and are third-party bodies. A line that says they accept named DeWalt packs is a fit claim. Only ASIN B0D484Q8QN, the DCW620B, is a DeWalt router in the set.

The compact DCW604 class, an 8 mm router with both bases, a cutter around 30 mm and a plunge of about 55 mm, is absent from these ten. A separate amazon.co.uk view showed the DCW604NT-XJ new from £268.98 with no featured offer.

The plunge router price UK shoppers see here is £324.98 for the DCW620B, tool only, 4.7 from 175 reviews. The title says 20 V and the item weight is 5.1 kg. DeWalt’s UK page for the DCW620H2-GB kit lists 6.35 mm and 12.7 mm collets, a 70 mm plunge, a 63 mm maximum cutter and a gross weight of 3.6 kg. Keep 5.1 kg and 3.6 kg apart. The only UK review on this file says the tool failed after eight months, so the 4.7 is not a British long-term record.

An edge or a hinge recess can use a fixed palm base. A groove that stops short of the end needs a plunge turret. A worktop jig usually asks for a half-inch plunge router and a guide bush, which the plunge and trim page sets out. A palm body near £50 stays a trimmer when the battery fits. A sink or hob opening is a joiner’s job if you have not run a template.

What tool-only leaves out

The TOPWAY at £49.99 says no battery, and so do the JOJOCY, L1NXIXI and Chengsuwei titles. The DCW620B box is one router and the listing says a battery is required. The charger and a pack are another basket unless they are already yours.

DeWalt UK sells this family as 18V XR. The amazon title says 20 V, the other label for the same system, not a second charger and not UK mains. The kit with two 5 Ah batteries is the DCW620H2-GB. DeWalt’s UK page lists those contents. This pass did not put an amazon.co.uk price on that kit. The 18V XR page keeps the pack names and the 20 V wording together.

DeWalt says the DCW620 gives more power on a PowerStack or FlexVolt pack, up to 50 per cent above a DCB184 on their comparison. If you already own two 5 Ah XR packs, compare £49.99 with £324.98.

Compatible palm routers in this amazon set

The palm router price in this set runs from £47.49 to £72.99.

The Chengsuwei at £47.49 is 4.2 from 8 reviews, claims 800 W, and lists five quarter-inch bits. The only UK text says the collet nut would not tighten and the tool was returned. The TOPWAY at £49.99 is the top pick for light edges when you already own a DeWalt pack: 4.3 from 47 reviews, 1.74 kg, fixed base, no battery. The bullet claims a quarter inch, 6 mm and 8 mm. UK reviews mention doors and hinge recesses, and also poor spanners and a slipped cutter, so tug the bit on scrap. Bits are not on the included-components line. Leave it when you need a plunge, a half-inch cutter, or a DeWalt warranty.

The L1NXIXI at £54.99 is 3.8 from 22 reviews, and one UK review says a wing nut stripped after two uses. The JOJOCY at £58.99 is 3.5 from two reviews. The unbranded LIROPAU at £59.33 prints a 3 mm pass limit. Two listings share £61.99. One LIROPAU claims 1,300 W and prints power source ac on a cordless title, and a UK review says it died after about ten uses. The RAYLEEY says plunge in the spec and palm in the title, and a UK review says the side guide will not lock. The JOJOCY at £69.99 is 4.1 from 22 reviews, and one UK buyer returned it because the base moved. The YWNYT at £72.99 is 5.0 from one review, and the box line names only the router.

Corded half-inch prices that are not amazon

Axminster showed the 230 V DeWalt DWE625KT at £339.98 including VAT. DeWalt’s UK page for that class lists about 2,100 W to 2,300 W, an 80 mm plunge and 6.1 kg. At home you want that 230 V model and a BS 1363 plug. A 110 V version is for a site transformer, which this pass did not price. A UK retailer prints about 95 dB(A) sound pressure for the DWE625KT. At work, the Health and Safety Executive expects on-tool extraction for a powered hand-held router. A householder is not that employer.

Keep £339.98 off the cordless router price. The DeWalt router price in this amazon set is £324.98 for the bare DCW620B. Screwfix lists the DCW620H2-GB with two 5 Ah PowerStack packs as a contents check, and that page is not an amazon.co.uk shelf price. A price-comparison page showed a twin-battery kit near £550.

What not to add up

Add lines from one basket, on one day, on one site. Palm bodies, the DCW620B and the Axminster price answer different questions. A span from £47 to £550 mixes a third-party trimmer, a bare plunge body, a shop till and a comparison-site kit. Leave out a charger you already own, the £268.98 DCW604 snapshot with no featured offer, and any bit bag the included-components line does not name. A quarter inch is 6.35 mm, so a 6 mm cutter is a second purchase.

The kit sum stops here. Two 5 Ah packs and a charger were not priced on amazon.co.uk in this pass, so this page cannot say which basket is cheaper than the bare DCW620B at £324.98. If you already own the packs, the body is the spend.

If a cordless title and an ac line disagree, or a collet nut will not grip, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 covers goods that are not as described. Photograph the box while the return window is open. When the shelf price moves, use the comparison.

Common questions

How much is a decent router in the UK?
In this amazon.co.uk set, a decent palm body for door edges and hinge recesses is the TOPWAY at £49.99 if you already own a DeWalt 18 V pack. It is 4.3 from 47 reviews and the top pick for that light job. The battery is not in the box. The half-inch plunge router in the same set is the DeWalt DCW620B at £324.98, also tool only. Match the base to the cut before you treat the lower figure as the whole budget.
Why are cordless routers listed without a battery?
Tool only means the seller prices the body for someone who already owns a pack and a charger. All ten cordless listings here are bare in that sense. The DCW620B box is one router and the listing says a battery is required. Palm titles, including the TOPWAY at £49.99, say no battery. DeWalt’s DCW620H2-GB, with two 5 Ah packs, is a different SKU from the bare unit at £324.98. Read the included-components line before you compare two shelf prices.
Is £50 enough for a first router?
£50 can buy a palm body in this set. The Chengsuwei is £47.49 and the TOPWAY is £49.99, and neither includes a battery. That covers light edge work when a DeWalt pack and a charger are already on the shelf, and when you can return a tool if the collet nut will not tighten. It does not buy a half-inch plunge router or a worktop jig. A pack and a charger can cost more than the palm body. That is a rule of thumb, because this pass did not price a starter kit.
What does a half-inch DeWalt cost?
On amazon.co.uk in this set, the half-inch DeWalt is the DCW620B at £324.98, tool only, 4.7 from 175 reviews. The title says 20 V and the item weight is 5.1 kg. DeWalt’s UK kit page lists 6.35 mm and 12.7 mm collets, a 70 mm plunge and a 63 mm maximum cutter, with a gross weight of 3.6 kg on that page. Keep those weights apart. Axminster showed a corded 230 V DWE625KT at £339.98 including VAT. That shop price is separate, and a corded tool has no battery to add.
Does the corded model need a 110 V transformer at home?
At home you want the 230 V version and a BS 1363 plug. DeWalt’s corded half-inch class is sold that way for UK mains. A 110 V version is for site supplies and a site transformer. If the router in the van is 110 V, it still needs that transformer on a 110 V supply. This pass priced a 230 V DWE625KT at £339.98 including VAT at Axminster and did not price a transformer, so keep the transformer as its own line.
Are included bits part of the value?
Count bits only when the included-components line names them. Several palm bullets claim five to fifteen cutters, while the box line on the YWNYT at £72.99 names only the router. The TOPWAY at £49.99 claims three collet sizes and does not list bits as included. The Chengsuwei at £47.49 lists five quarter-inch bits, and the only UK review says the collet nut would not tighten. A bag of cutters has no value if the collet will not hold a shank. A 6 mm bit is the wrong buy for a quarter-inch collet.
What extra cost appears if I do not own a charger?
You need a charger and at least one pack before either cordless body will cut. Palm bodies here are £47.49 to £72.99 and the DCW620B is £324.98, and every one of those prices stops at the tool. A charger and a pack can cost more than the palm body. Treat that as a rule of thumb, because this pass did not take a live amazon.co.uk price for a starter kit. If you already own an 18V XR charger, a 20 V title is the same family, so you do not buy a second charger for the label.
Is a kit cheaper than the body plus two batteries?
This pass cannot close that sum. The bare DCW620B was £324.98 on amazon.co.uk. A price-comparison page showed a twin-battery DCW620 kit near £550, which is not an amazon shelf price. DeWalt’s page for the DCW620H2-GB describes two 5 Ah batteries and is not an amazon price. Without a same-day price for two packs and a charger, you cannot know which basket is lower. If you already own the packs, the bare body is the spend. If you own nothing, compare the kit and the body on one site on the day you buy.
